Speaker 1: The Stock Movers Report. Your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market. Harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.
00:00:17
Speaker 3: I'm Carol Messer, along with Tim Stenevek. Let's get to some stocks on the move. Joining us right now is someone who's been watching the movie, the movies.
00:00:25
Speaker 4: I have been watching the movies.
00:00:26
Speaker 1: Have you been watching the movies? I have.
00:00:27
Speaker 2: What have you seen?
00:00:29
Speaker 4: Most recent one I've seen is the Practical Magic 2 movie.
00:00:33
Speaker 1: Is it good?
00:00:34
Speaker 4: It's fun. It's all over social media. Don't expect a deep movie, and you'll have so much fun. I don't need deep.
00:00:39
Speaker 3: I get enough deep.
00:00:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:00:41
Speaker 4: It's entertaining.
00:00:42
Speaker 3: Christina Kino is with us. She's managing editor, Markets Live blog. Here at Bloomberg News. All right, let's get to some stocks on the move.
00:00:49
Speaker 4: Apple, we were talking about Apple today.
00:00:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
00:00:51
Speaker 4: I mean, it wasn't really actually moving much. It is one of these stocks that have barely moved. It's up two-tenths of 1% at the close. Ticker is AAPL. But the big news is that it is developing a screenless health and fitness tracker. to compete with Whoop. Are any of you familiar with Whoop?
00:01:08
Speaker 2: I'm familiar.
00:01:08
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:01:09
Speaker 3: We just like to say Whoop.
00:01:10
Speaker 4: It's very fun.
00:01:12
Speaker 2: A lot of people have tried to compete with Whoop and Whoop seems to be doing pretty well. Amazon years ago tried this. It didn't work. Now Google's trying. We'll see if Apple can pull it off.
00:01:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. I mean, I feel like, I mean, one of my best friends is really into it. And I think what's kind of the success of Whoop is the environment that it creates. So it's really all about that app experience and And the, there's a competitive nature to it that really gets people addicted, but there's no screen. There's no screen. And it lasts.
00:01:38
Speaker 2: So you don't buy the hardware, you buy the subscription and the hardware.
00:01:40
Speaker 3: Correct. So you check your phone for all the information. Yeah.
00:01:44
Speaker 2: The battery lasts a long time because there is no screen. You wear it all the time. Yeah.
00:01:47
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:01:48
Speaker 2: Um, Increasingly, you see professional athletes wearing these. They're really popular for cyclists. They sponsor a Tour de France team.
00:01:54
Speaker 3: How much information is on it?
00:01:56
Speaker 2: I have no idea. I've never used one.
00:01:57
Speaker 4: There's a point where it's like overload. I want things simple. Tell me. Is my heart doing okay? I think that's where– Is my breathing okay?
00:02:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's where– You know what I mean? I know exactly. I think you're okay. You seem okay, Carol.
00:02:10
Speaker 1: Don't worry.
00:02:11
Speaker 3: Oh, really?
00:02:11
Speaker 4: Oh, come on. Yeah.
00:02:13
Speaker 3: Who are these people that think I'm okay?
00:02:15
Speaker 2: I'm not a doctor.
00:02:16
Speaker 4: I'm okay.
00:02:16
Speaker 2: You're okay.
00:02:18
Speaker 4: There is a strategy there.
00:02:19
Speaker 1: All right.
00:02:19
Speaker 3: Let's go to SNDK Sandisk, which has been on fire this year.
00:02:23
Speaker 4: Absolutely. So those shares are up more than 6% today, and they actually closed at a two-month high. So check out SNDK. Check it out on their terminal. But it really was just Rosenblatt Securities starting coverage on the company, but they hit it with a buy rating and a $ 2, 400 price target. So that implies a 27% increase. from its closing price today. And they're all about the AI tailwinds. I know, Carol's shocked face, but apparently there's a lot more upside.
00:02:50
Speaker 3: Do you know what the number one gainer is in the S & P 500 this year? It is SanDisk.
00:02:55
Speaker 2: It is SanDisk.
00:02:55
Speaker 3: It is up 694%.
00:02:56
Speaker 4: That's crazy. But these people are thinking that it has room to go. It is primarily because they're saying now that the chips, right, that SanDisk has become known for, the memory chips, is really in a position to become a more critical component of the AI infrastructure. And that's totally true. We've seen that this year where they were a big part of that supply chain. And that's what they're thinking is going to keep happening.
00:03:19
Speaker 1: I know.
00:03:20
Speaker 2: I know. What else do you got for us, Christine? All right.
00:03:22
Speaker 4: Let's take a look at Lennar as well. That's another big gainer today. So ticker L-E-N, up more than 6%. Oh, this is the home builder?
00:03:28
Speaker 1: That's right.
00:03:29
Speaker 4: Yeah. Lenar. And the biggest jump in three months. And it's because Berkshire Hathaway has a contrarian trade for the stock. They're buying when everyone else seems to be turning negative. So they boosted our stake in HomeBuilder over three trading days. It now owns an 11% stake in the company. And everyone else is not really as bullish as Berkshire Hathaway seems to be. And the stock has also underperformed a lot of its peers. It's declined more than 30% when The sector itself only fell 11% this year. So it's underperforming. But maybe Berkshire Hathaway is seeing something that we all don't.
00:04:03
Speaker 3: Berkshire likes housing and homes. They do.
00:04:06
Speaker 4: They have D.R.
00:04:06
Speaker 1: Horton.
00:04:07
Speaker 3: They have Taylor Morris. They have liked this area for a while. So we all need a roof over our heads.
