WEBVTT
00:00:10.240 -->
00:00:13.439Good morning and welcome to Starting Right.
00:00:13.679 -->
00:00:19.920I am Danny Mack, and I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great start to your day.
00:00:20.079 -->
00:00:27.839So grab your cup of coffee, sit back and relax for the next five minutes as I help you start your day by starting right.
00:00:34.479 -->
00:00:41.439Recently, as I was reading through the Bible, I came into Malachi chapter 3 and verse 3, and it talks about God this way.
00:00:41.600 -->
00:00:46.560He says, He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.
00:00:46.960 -->
00:00:56.880It reminded me of a story of a group of ladies who were attending a Bible study, and they decided that they wanted to go and talk to a silversmith and find out a little bit more about the refining process.
00:00:57.200 -->
00:00:58.719So off they went.
00:00:58.960 -->
00:01:06.480As they talked to the silversmith, he talked about not only the casting process, but how the refining process took place.
00:01:06.719 -->
00:01:13.920In that refining process, you heat up the raw silver and you let the impurities rise to the top and then you take them off.
00:01:14.079 -->
00:01:19.840And then once that's done, you were able to use that silver to cast something new and something beautiful.
00:01:20.079 -->
00:01:24.480One of the ladies asked the silversmith, Do you sit and watch it while it's going on?
00:01:25.200 -->
00:01:35.359He said, Yeah, I have to sit and watch it continually with my eyes on it, because if it is in the fire too long, it will actually injure the silver.
00:01:36.319 -->
00:01:39.280At that point, the lady remembered the words from Malachi.
00:01:39.599 -->
00:01:43.120He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.
00:01:44.400 -->
00:01:51.920When we're going through things, when we're going through trials, and we're going through frustrations, those things don't come upon us randomly.
00:01:52.239 -->
00:01:55.200But when they do come, God uses them to make us better.
00:01:55.680 -->
00:02:00.560As the ladies were finished their visit and were leaving the silversmith, she asked one more question.
00:02:00.719 -->
00:02:04.079She said, When do you know that the process is complete?
00:02:05.200 -->
00:02:08.400The silversmith smiled and said, Well, that's actually quite simple.
00:02:08.719 -->
00:02:13.520When I can see my own image in the silver, the refining process is finished.
00:02:15.360 -->
00:02:16.560Isn't it the truth?
00:02:16.879 -->
00:02:22.560God wants to be able to see him in us, and he wants other people to be able to see him in us.
00:02:22.879 -->
00:02:24.159He is the refiner.
00:02:24.240 -->
00:02:27.520He's refining you and I every day by what we're going through.
00:02:27.599 -->
00:02:32.719And he continually shows us more about himself in everything that we do.
00:02:33.280 -->
00:02:37.199And eventually he wants people to be able to see in us who he is.
00:02:38.400 -->
00:02:46.159Richard Wormbrandt was a minister in Romania during the communist rule, and he was put into prison for his faith by the communist authorities.
00:02:46.560 -->
00:02:50.800Two and a half years of that time in prison, he was in solitary confinement.
00:02:51.840 -->
00:02:55.039He later on went to write the book in God's Underground.
00:02:55.360 -->
00:03:05.199In that book, he tells the story about one day a young communist man was thrown into his cell because the young man had said something that the state didn't like very much.
00:03:05.919 -->
00:03:08.719So Wormbrand introduced himself as a pastor.
00:03:09.199 -->
00:03:16.639The young man told him that he wanted nothing to do with Christianity, quoting the Marxist mantra, religion is the opiate of the people.
00:03:17.199 -->
00:03:19.759So Wormbrandt didn't try to evangelize him.
00:03:20.319 -->
00:03:24.800As Rations were very meager in prison, Wormbrandt used to share his bread with the young man.
00:03:24.960 -->
00:03:27.199And slowly over time they became friends.
00:03:27.360 -->
00:03:31.199And one day the young man said, Tell me who is Jesus like?
00:03:31.599 -->
00:03:35.199Wormbrandt replied quietly, Jesus is like me.
00:03:35.680 -->
00:03:39.599To which the young man replied, Then I would like to get to know him.
00:03:41.199 -->
00:03:42.960I like that story a lot.
00:03:43.599 -->
00:03:53.039When we know that we are living the life Christ wants us to live so clearly and so properly that we have the boldness and the assurance to say, Jesus is like me.
00:03:53.919 -->
00:04:01.199And when we say that, the people we say it to have seen Jesus in us so much and so often that they say, I want that too.
00:04:02.240 -->
00:04:06.159This morning I want you to know that many of us are going through that refining process.
00:04:06.319 -->
00:04:14.000We're being refined, we're having the impurities worked out of our lives, to leave something that God can now take and mold into whatever shape that He wants.
00:04:14.639 -->
00:04:18.160And He can only fully do that when He can see Himself clearly in our lives.
00:04:18.959 -->
00:04:20.560I'll leave you with this verse today.
00:04:20.959 -->
00:04:22.879Ephesians chapter 2 and verse 10.
00:04:24.240 -->
00:04:31.040For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.
00:04:31.920 -->
00:04:45.759So, my friends, as we are being refined, as we are going through the processes that are sometimes very difficult, let God remove the things from our lives that need to be pulled off, the crud that needs to be removed from us.
00:04:46.000 -->
00:04:47.279We all have some.
00:04:47.439 -->
00:04:55.040And then let our lives reflect who Jesus really is so people around us can see him and see his love and his reality in us.
00:04:55.360 -->
00:04:57.759I hope you have an awesome day, my friends.
00:04:57.920 -->
00:04:58.720Take care.
00:04:58.959 -->
00:04:59.680God bless you.
00:04:59.839 -->
00:05:01.519We'll talk to you tomorrow.
00:05:08.639 -->
00:05:10.319Thank you for listening today.
00:05:10.399 -->
00:05:15.839And I invite you to join me Monday to Friday right here on Starting Right with Danny Mack.
