5
00:00:17.199 --> 00:00:19.399
visit right now with Chris Reynolds. He's with a band
6
00:00:19.480 --> 00:00:22.280
called Whiskey Rich. They're going to be performing at the
7
00:00:22.320 --> 00:00:25.399
South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance for a really fun event
8
00:00:25.760 --> 00:00:28.519
on October 30th. First, how long have you guys been together?
9
00:00:28.920 --> 00:00:34.020
We formed in 2014. Uh, that originally was just a
10
00:00:34.100 --> 00:00:39.030
duo and, uh, now it's a five piece country band here.
11
00:00:39.149 --> 00:00:41.969
So we've been at it pretty hard for the better
12
00:00:41.990 --> 00:00:43.109
part of 12 years now.
13
00:00:43.409 --> 00:00:45.929
Well, you're doing something right. I see whiskey rich playing
14
00:00:46.130 --> 00:00:48.409
all over the place. How far and why do you
15
00:00:48.450 --> 00:00:50.369
guys travel to perform music?
16
00:00:50.570 --> 00:00:52.729
Yeah, we're pretty, uh, we're based out of Sioux Falls.
17
00:00:52.789 --> 00:00:56.420
So I live here. We're pretty regional. Um, but we
18
00:00:56.460 --> 00:01:01.920
will do anywhere in South Dakota and then Northwest Iowa, um, that,
19
00:01:02.039 --> 00:01:05.909
you know, that North, uh, Eastern part of Nebraska and
20
00:01:05.920 --> 00:01:10.430
then Southwest Minnesota. So kind of this four state hub
21
00:01:10.469 --> 00:01:12.049
here is our main territory.
22
00:01:12.530 --> 00:01:14.170
Well, and you had mentioned that it started as a
23
00:01:14.209 --> 00:01:16.790
duo and the band has grown while also the fan
24
00:01:16.829 --> 00:01:19.569
base has grown. You guys have a ton of fans. Uh,
25
00:01:19.590 --> 00:01:22.219
people absolutely love the band whiskey rich.
26
00:01:22.500 --> 00:01:26.209
Yes, it is grown. Uh, over the years. Yeah, we
27
00:01:26.250 --> 00:01:29.010
have a lot of loyal followers. Even when I play
28
00:01:29.049 --> 00:01:33.280
the solo shows on these bar patios, I see the
29
00:01:33.340 --> 00:01:37.719
same 20, 30 people. Every single show, they are loyal
30
00:01:37.799 --> 00:01:39.739
and they show up. And it's really nice to have
31
00:01:40.120 --> 00:01:43.989
great support right here in Sioux Falls. And even we're
32
00:01:44.030 --> 00:01:47.579
starting to see Good pockets in Iowa and Minnesota and
33
00:01:47.640 --> 00:01:50.459
all over, people that are enjoying country music.
34
00:01:50.840 --> 00:01:53.400
October 30th would be an awesome time to get out
35
00:01:53.519 --> 00:01:55.939
and see Whiskey Rich as they perform at the South
36
00:01:55.959 --> 00:02:00.069
Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. There's also a costume contest that night,
37
00:02:00.349 --> 00:02:03.109
and there's some trivia and other fun things happening before
38
00:02:03.150 --> 00:02:06.230
the band gets started. Chris, have you guys performed at
39
00:02:06.250 --> 00:02:07.569
the Alliance in the past?
40
00:02:08.050 --> 00:02:11.689
Yes, we have opened a few shows for some bigger
41
00:02:11.909 --> 00:02:16.110
acts there. Um, I, I think it was 2022. We
42
00:02:16.710 --> 00:02:20.750
opened up for Tracy bird there, which was unbelievable. I
43
00:02:21.069 --> 00:02:24.699
love Tracy bird, obviously. And then just this last March
44
00:02:24.819 --> 00:02:30.199
of 2026, we opened up for Blackhawk, which was also amazing.
45
00:02:30.219 --> 00:02:33.259
I just can't believe how good those guys are at
46
00:02:33.319 --> 00:02:36.620
their age. Just killing it. They sounded phenomenal.
47
00:02:37.120 --> 00:02:39.340
Speaking of the band Blackhawk, I had a chance to
48
00:02:39.400 --> 00:02:41.960
visit with them back in the 1990s. I worked in
49
00:02:42.000 --> 00:02:44.430
country radio at the time. And one of the things
50
00:02:44.439 --> 00:02:47.069
that I thought was pretty cool is the name Blackhawk
51
00:02:47.129 --> 00:02:49.770
was not the original name of that band. Do you
52
00:02:49.789 --> 00:02:50.610
know their original name?
53
00:02:50.889 --> 00:02:51.770
I have no idea.
54
00:02:52.129 --> 00:02:53.909
And I kind of wonder if they would have been
55
00:02:53.969 --> 00:02:57.240
as big as Mustwang. That was the original name.
56
00:02:59.280 --> 00:03:00.919
That can't be as good as Blackhawk.
57
00:03:01.330 --> 00:03:03.270
The story was told to me by Henry, I believe
58
00:03:03.310 --> 00:03:05.550
is his name, the lead singer maybe of Blackhawk. And
59
00:03:05.810 --> 00:03:07.849
he said they weren't quite sold on Mustang and they
60
00:03:07.870 --> 00:03:09.889
were sitting in traffic on their way to sign the
61
00:03:09.930 --> 00:03:12.689
record deal. And there was a truck that said Blackhawk
62
00:03:12.750 --> 00:03:14.590
Printing that pulled up next to him. So if they
63
00:03:14.629 --> 00:03:16.909
hadn't been in traffic, maybe they'd have been Mustang. But
64
00:03:16.949 --> 00:03:20.050
I think Blackhawk worked out pretty darn good for the band.
65
00:03:20.469 --> 00:03:22.949
Yes, it worked out pretty well for them. I don't
66
00:03:22.990 --> 00:03:24.490
think they have any regrets, I'm sure.
67
00:03:24.789 --> 00:03:27.349
So now I get to ask about your name, Whiskey Rich.
68
00:03:27.409 --> 00:03:28.310
Where did that come from?
69
00:03:28.689 --> 00:03:32.370
Yeah, good question. Um, You know, I think it was,
70
00:03:33.389 --> 00:03:35.569
you know, I said this started as a duo. It
71
00:03:35.629 --> 00:03:38.689
was the other gentleman that started this band with me
72
00:03:38.750 --> 00:03:41.310
that came up with that name. And I'm not really,
73
00:03:41.340 --> 00:03:44.819
I don't think he ever really had a real rhyme
74
00:03:44.879 --> 00:03:49.139
or reason as to how he came up with that.
75
00:03:49.159 --> 00:03:51.379
It just popped in his head and we were like,
76
00:03:51.539 --> 00:03:53.280
oh yeah, that sounds pretty good. And we just stuck
77
00:03:53.319 --> 00:03:53.580
with it.
78
00:03:54.300 --> 00:03:56.180
It is pretty good. I like it a lot. Again,
79
00:03:56.219 --> 00:03:58.379
Whiskey Rich is the band that is going to be
80
00:03:58.419 --> 00:04:02.219
performing at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance on October 30th.
81
00:04:02.599 --> 00:04:05.360
It is a costume contest that night as well. You
82
00:04:05.379 --> 00:04:06.840
guys are going to get to see some people dressed
83
00:04:07.120 --> 00:04:10.000
in really fun outfits. There's also, leading up to the
84
00:04:10.039 --> 00:04:12.560
costume contest and leading up to the band, going to
85
00:04:12.580 --> 00:04:17.620
have some Halloween music playing and some spooky trivia, Halloween trivia.
86
00:04:17.699 --> 00:04:19.920
I'm actually working on getting that stuff all ready to
87
00:04:19.959 --> 00:04:22.060
go right now. It's going to be a darn good night. Again,
88
00:04:22.120 --> 00:04:26.050
it's Friday night. October the 30th. And I'm super excited
89
00:04:26.069 --> 00:04:28.029
for that costume contest. That's going to be awesome.
90
00:04:28.230 --> 00:04:30.689
Yes, I'll be. The band is going to be dressed up.
91
00:04:30.750 --> 00:04:35.350
We'll have costumes. Also, with your $ 25 ticket, there is
92
00:04:35.449 --> 00:04:39.689
an appetizer food spread. And you also get a ticket
93
00:04:39.769 --> 00:04:43.209
for one of the signature Halloween cocktails. They're making a
94
00:04:44.790 --> 00:04:48.829
menu of spooky drinks, they're calling them. I think there
95
00:04:48.879 --> 00:04:51.180
could be some dry ice coming out of them. So
96
00:04:51.300 --> 00:04:53.870
a lot of fun Cocktails that they'll have. So you
97
00:04:53.879 --> 00:04:56.350
get a cocktail and a food spread and some country
98
00:04:56.389 --> 00:05:01.009
music and a costume contest. And all the while, you'll
99
00:05:01.050 --> 00:05:04.110
be supporting all of the services that they do with
100
00:05:04.209 --> 00:05:08.449
veterans and current military. If you like to party and
101
00:05:08.490 --> 00:05:11.730
you like to support our military, come on out to
102
00:05:11.750 --> 00:05:12.930
the Alliance October 30th.
103
00:05:13.829 --> 00:05:15.089
I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun.
104
00:05:15.129 --> 00:05:18.290
And you had mentioned the cocktails. They also have mocktail
105
00:05:18.350 --> 00:05:20.509
versions of that. So if you're going, hey, I want
106
00:05:20.529 --> 00:05:22.750
to go, but I don't want to drink, that's cool.
107
00:05:22.790 --> 00:05:25.069
You can have fun without drinking too. And I love
108
00:05:25.100 --> 00:05:27.560
the fact that they thought of that with the mocktail version.
109
00:05:27.600 --> 00:05:29.339
So there's no booze in that style of drink.
110
00:05:29.600 --> 00:05:33.319
Yes, totally. Yep. If you don't want to wear a costume,
111
00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:35.600
you don't have to. If you don't want to drink,
112
00:05:35.639 --> 00:05:38.680
you don't have to. Come on out and support. This
113
00:05:39.019 --> 00:05:42.269
is really important work that the Alliance does in our community.
114
00:05:42.350 --> 00:05:46.079
So- Your $ 25 ticket is going right back into all
115
00:05:46.120 --> 00:05:50.329
of the support services that they provide our veterans and
116
00:05:50.410 --> 00:05:51.209
current military.
117
00:05:51.660 --> 00:05:53.959
Absolutely. And Chris, thanks for taking the time to chat.
118
00:05:54.019 --> 00:05:54.899
Thanks for having me.
119
00:05:55.420 --> 00:05:57.680
Again, Chris is with the band Whiskey Rich. They are
120
00:05:57.720 --> 00:06:01.089
performing on Friday, October 30th at the South Dakota Military
121
00:06:01.129 --> 00:06:05.569
Heritage Alliance. Costume contest, trivia, chance to win all kinds
122
00:06:05.629 --> 00:06:07.889
of fun stuff. Get out, have a blast with us.

45
00:02:30.219 --> 00:02:33.259
I just can't believe how good those guys are at
46
00:02:33.319 --> 00:02:36.620
their age. Just killing it. They sounded phenomenal.
47
00:02:37.120 --> 00:02:39.340
Speaking of the band Blackhawk, I had a chance to
48
00:02:39.400 --> 00:02:41.960
visit with them back in the 1990s. I worked in
49
00:02:42.000 --> 00:02:44.430
country radio at the time. And one of the things
50
00:02:44.439 --> 00:02:47.069
that I thought was pretty cool is the name Blackhawk
51
00:02:47.129 --> 00:02:49.770
was not the original name of that band. Do you
52
00:02:49.789 --> 00:02:50.610
know their original name?
53
00:02:50.889 --> 00:02:51.770
I have no idea.
54
00:02:52.129 --> 00:02:53.909
And I kind of wonder if they would have been
55
00:02:53.969 --> 00:02:57.240
as big as Mustwang. That was the original name.
56
00:02:59.280 --> 00:03:00.919
That can't be as good as Blackhawk.
57
00:03:01.330 --> 00:03:03.270
The story was told to me by Henry, I believe
58
00:03:03.310 --> 00:03:05.550
is his name, the lead singer maybe of Blackhawk. And
59
00:03:05.810 --> 00:03:07.849
he said they weren't quite sold on Mustang and they
60
00:03:07.870 --> 00:03:09.889
were sitting in traffic on their way to sign the
61
00:03:09.930 --> 00:03:12.689
record deal. And there was a truck that said Blackhawk
62
00:03:12.750 --> 00:03:14.590
Printing that pulled up next to him. So if they
63
00:03:14.629 --> 00:03:16.909
hadn't been in traffic, maybe they'd have been Mustang. But
64
00:03:16.949 --> 00:03:20.050
I think Blackhawk worked out pretty darn good for the band.
65
00:03:20.469 --> 00:03:22.949
Yes, it worked out pretty well for them. I don't
66
00:03:22.990 --> 00:03:24.490
think they have any regrets, I'm sure.
67
00:03:24.789 --> 00:03:27.349
So now I get to ask about your name, Whiskey Rich.
68
00:03:27.409 --> 00:03:28.310
Where did that come from?
69
00:03:28.689 --> 00:03:32.370
Yeah, good question. Um, You know, I think it was,
70
00:03:33.389 --> 00:03:35.569
you know, I said this started as a duo. It
71
00:03:35.629 --> 00:03:38.689
was the other gentleman that started this band with me
72
00:03:38.750 --> 00:03:41.310
that came up with that name. And I'm not really,
73
00:03:41.340 --> 00:03:44.819
I don't think he ever really had a real rhyme
74
00:03:44.879 --> 00:03:49.139
or reason as to how he came up with that.
75
00:03:49.159 --> 00:03:51.379
It just popped in his head and we were like,
76
00:03:51.539 --> 00:03:53.280
oh yeah, that sounds pretty good. And we just stuck
77
00:03:53.319 --> 00:03:53.580
with it.
78
00:03:54.300 --> 00:03:56.180
It is pretty good. I like it a lot. Again,
79
00:03:56.219 --> 00:03:58.379
Whiskey Rich is the band that is going to be
80
00:03:58.419 --> 00:04:02.219
performing at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance on October 30th.
81
00:04:02.599 --> 00:04:05.360
It is a costume contest that night as well. You
82
00:04:05.379 --> 00:04:06.840
guys are going to get to see some people dressed
83
00:04:07.120 --> 00:04:10.000
in really fun outfits. There's also, leading up to the
84
00:04:10.039 --> 00:04:12.560
costume contest and leading up to the band, going to
85
00:04:12.580 --> 00:04:17.620
have some Halloween music playing and some spooky trivia, Halloween trivia.
86
00:04:17.699 --> 00:04:19.920
I'm actually working on getting that stuff all ready to
87
00:04:19.959 --> 00:04:22.060
go right now. It's going to be a darn good night. Again,
88
00:04:22.120 --> 00:04:26.050
it's Friday night. October the 30th. And I'm super excited
89
00:04:26.069 --> 00:04:28.029
for that costume contest. That's going to be awesome.
90
00:04:28.230 --> 00:04:30.689
Yes, I'll be. The band is going to be dressed up.
91
00:04:30.750 --> 00:04:35.350
We'll have costumes. Also, with your $ 25 ticket, there is
92
00:04:35.449 --> 00:04:39.689
an appetizer food spread. And you also get a ticket
93
00:04:39.769 --> 00:04:43.209
for one of the signature Halloween cocktails. They're making a
94
00:04:44.790 --> 00:04:48.829
menu of spooky drinks, they're calling them. I think there
95
00:04:48.879 --> 00:04:51.180
could be some dry ice coming out of them. So
96
00:04:51.300 --> 00:04:53.870
a lot of fun Cocktails that they'll have. So you
97
00:04:53.879 --> 00:04:56.350
get a cocktail and a food spread and some country
98
00:04:56.389 --> 00:05:01.009
music and a costume contest. And all the while, you'll
99
00:05:01.050 --> 00:05:04.110
be supporting all of the services that they do with
100
00:05:04.209 --> 00:05:08.449
veterans and current military. If you like to party and
101
00:05:08.490 --> 00:05:11.730
you like to support our military, come on out to
102
00:05:11.750 --> 00:05:12.930
the Alliance October 30th.
103
00:05:13.829 --> 00:05:15.089
I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun.
104
00:05:15.129 --> 00:05:18.290
And you had mentioned the cocktails. They also have mocktail
105
00:05:18.350 --> 00:05:20.509
versions of that. So if you're going, hey, I want
106
00:05:20.529 --> 00:05:22.750
to go, but I don't want to drink, that's cool.
107
00:05:22.790 --> 00:05:25.069
You can have fun without drinking too. And I love
108
00:05:25.100 --> 00:05:27.560
the fact that they thought of that with the mocktail version.
109
00:05:27.600 --> 00:05:29.339
So there's no booze in that style of drink.
110
00:05:29.600 --> 00:05:33.319
Yes, totally. Yep. If you don't want to wear a costume,
111
00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:35.600
you don't have to. If you don't want to drink,
112
00:05:35.639 --> 00:05:38.680
you don't have to. Come on out and support. This
113
00:05:39.019 --> 00:05:42.269
is really important work that the Alliance does in our community.
114
00:05:42.350 --> 00:05:46.079
So- Your $ 25 ticket is going right back into all
115
00:05:46.120 --> 00:05:50.329
of the support services that they provide our veterans and
116
00:05:50.410 --> 00:05:51.209
current military.
117
00:05:51.660 --> 00:05:53.959
Absolutely. And Chris, thanks for taking the time to chat.
118
00:05:54.019 --> 00:05:54.899
Thanks for having me.
119
00:05:55.420 --> 00:05:57.680
Again, Chris is with the band Whiskey Rich. They are
120
00:05:57.720 --> 00:06:01.089
performing on Friday, October 30th at the South Dakota Military
121
00:06:01.129 --> 00:06:05.569
Heritage Alliance. Costume contest, trivia, chance to win all kinds
122
00:06:05.629 --> 00:06:07.889
of fun stuff. Get out, have a blast with us.
