ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In this packed episode of Everyone Needs an Aquarius, Dom and D link up with the trio behind the HL Podcast @thehlpodcast AmRock, DJ No Name, and I Am Dez. Together, they dissect some of the most surreal, infuriating, and critical stories in culture, law, technology, and legacy planning.
The conversation kicks off with the origins of the HL Podcast, detailing how an organic connection between Baltimore, Tulsa, and Jersey turned into a powerhouse show discussing sports, film, culture, and Black history. The crew then jumps into a lighthearted debate on overlooked Black superheroes, arguing why Blankman and Meteor Man deserve their respect in the superhero canon. From there, they dive into cultural identity and cosplay, breaking down the story of a Philadelphia woman who claimed to be Black and Palestinian, and why cultural gatekeeping is sometimes necessary.
Next, the discussion shifts to serious legal and systemic issues, starting with the ongoing legal disputes over Chadwick Boseman's estate. The hosts break down the reality of medical treatments in hospice and explain why estate planning and trusts are essential before it’s too late. The group also tackles a horrifying Detroit funeral home nightmare involving a body mix-up, an accidental cremation, and the sudden death of the funeral home’s VP. Finally, the episode highlights major technological and institutional failures. They examine how Flock cameras falsely flagged an innocent person for vehicular homicide, leading to 13 days in jail and potential life in prison due to flawed AI surveillance. They close out with an in-depth analysis of the Cornell 7 Chi Phi fraternity assault case, exposing institutional cover-ups at elite universities and outlining "Columbo-style" rules for proper investigations.
