ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Cat sits down with Elizabeth Gilbert live at the Algonquin Hotel, steps from Dorothy Parker's Round Table, to talk about her memoir All the Way to the River. It's the story of Liz's best friend, partner, and great love Rayya Elias, her death from cancer, and the addictions that ran through their relationship on both sides.
Liz gets real about her own recovery from sex and love addiction, why she's chosen seven years of celibacy as a living amends to herself, and what it actually looks like to use people the way other addicts use drugs. She talks about recording the audiobook in the same studio where Rayya made music, why she refuses to play "what if," what it was like to be famous in the rooms, and how Eat, Pray, Love became "the book that launched a million divorces." Plus questions from the room on calling, creativity, rescue, aging without kids, and finding the courage to tell your truth when backlash is guaranteed.
And stick around to the end for a surprise: Cat marks 13 years sober, live, with her son Truman by her side.
