🌙 Stoicism for Sleep Playlist
Tonight, a quiet question to fall asleep to: when everything is taken out of your hands — your health, your calm, your future, even your own mind — what is actually left to hold on to? For two thousand years, ordinary people at the very bottom reached for the same old philosophy. Not emperors. Not the comfortable. This is their story — and, gently, where it worked, and the one honest place it wasn't enough.
Rest easy. There is nothing to solve here, and nowhere to be. Just a handful of true lives, told slowly, and one old idea that was never really meant for the winners — it was built at the bottom, by people who had already lost. Let the words carry you down into sleep.
Tonight's stories
• A veteran who came home angry, and the drive that finally undid it
• A young man on a sober-house floor, and a borrowed book
• A man who recited Hamlet while the surgeons worked
• An artist the illness put to bed, who learned to do less
• One night at a steakhouse, and the choice to stay
• A penniless water-carrier who was hauled into court — and became the head of the school
• The honest chapter: where the philosophy wasn't enough
• A grieving laborer in Glasgow, and scraps of wisdom in a cheap magazine
• A wounded soldier who, in the quiet, finally met himself
• A burned tradesman, and the two handles of everything
• A dying man who decided three acts can still be a whole play
