ABOUT THIS EPISODE
After last episode's Pokémon deep dive, RJ decided somebody needed to man this podcast up — so naturally we're talking trucks. Specifically, the ranch fleet and the very distinct personality of each one.
It starts with Ranch Force One hitting 203,000 miles and a check engine light coming on at the exact moment RJ was praising it out loud. From there it's the full truck biography: the Suburban's former life as a Celine Dion Uber Black in Colorado (yes, she sat in that seat), the cylinder eight injector that broke in half inside the engine block, and how RJ got so good at pulling the top of the motor off that he eventually did it in 12 minutes flat.
Then there's the Land Rover LR3 — mechanically a tank, electrically a fever dream — which managed to throw 27 fault codes when a single speed sensor wire got severed by a stick. And the glorious Sport 10, a former summer camp runabout with trailer tires, one headlight aimed at the sky, and zero to sixty time that ends in a question mark.
Also: RJ crashing the F-150 into the Suburban while trying to pull it out of being stuck, a dainty attempted intervention, and the Pokedad shirt reveal.
In this episode:
- Ranch Force One, the Celine Dion spec Suburban, and what DNA evidence might be lurking in the back seat
- Cylinder eight, a broken injector, and the Haynes manual's advice to just do it all in reverse
- The LR3's fog light/oil pressure light/FM antenna/rear defroster inter-dependency explained
- 16 different size lug nuts, now down to 15
- The Sport 10: for trailer service only, and proud of it

TRANSCRIPT 🔗
00:00:14.080 --> 00:00:17.679
Welcome back, everyone, to another episode of Swing Shift.
00:00:17.839 --> 00:00:20.480
I'm your host, Rob, along with my co-host RJ.
00:00:20.719 --> 00:00:21.679
Say hi to the folks.
00:00:21.920 --> 00:00:24.399
I'd love to, but I'm a little uh perturbed.
00:00:24.640 --> 00:00:28.640
Uh he didn't say the even you even get the name of the podcast right.
00:00:30.640 --> 00:00:39.920
Well, I thought it was a little uh it was a bit of a mouthful to say save it for swing shift, so I just said another episode of Swing Shift.
00:00:41.600 --> 00:00:44.399
Oh no, I was given some direction prior to us recording.
00:00:46.479 --> 00:00:48.159
Our director's kind of an ass.
00:00:50.320 --> 00:00:54.320
You know what I you know what I think, and maybe we'll edit this up a little bit too.
00:00:54.479 --> 00:00:59.759
Um because I think, and I'm not trying to be nitpicky, I'm just trying to be objective about how it sounds.
00:01:00.079 --> 00:01:03.679
Um you said welcome to episode another episode of the swing show, whatever.
00:01:03.920 --> 00:01:07.519
Um, I think since the Oh welcome to another swing show.
00:01:07.680 --> 00:01:09.200
Welcome, yeah, welcome back to the swing show.
00:01:09.359 --> 00:01:10.719
Something like, yeah, yeah, exactly.
00:01:10.799 --> 00:01:13.840
I think that flows better if you want to try it.
00:01:14.959 --> 00:01:16.640
Here, I'll clap for you.
00:01:20.079 --> 00:01:20.799
Anytime now.
00:01:21.040 --> 00:01:21.840
Oh, shut up.
00:01:21.920 --> 00:01:23.200
I already did stuff.
00:01:24.000 --> 00:01:24.480
Remember?
00:01:25.040 --> 00:01:28.400
Well, you know what I picked up on the last episode when I was listening back to it?
00:01:28.640 --> 00:01:34.000
You were talking about the beats of the telescopes turning and you were snapping.
00:01:34.079 --> 00:01:36.079
I didn't hear it when we were actually recording.
00:01:36.319 --> 00:01:36.560
Yeah.
00:01:37.599 --> 00:01:41.680
Well, it's interesting too because um you can very clearly hear me clap too.
00:01:41.760 --> 00:01:42.560
And yeah.
00:01:42.799 --> 00:01:43.280
Yeah.
00:01:43.519 --> 00:01:44.640
Uh I don't know, man.
00:01:44.799 --> 00:01:45.439
Audio is weird.
00:01:45.519 --> 00:01:48.799
I'll tell you another thing is that fucking fish tank of yours.
00:01:48.959 --> 00:01:50.159
Um yeah.
00:01:50.400 --> 00:01:54.719
So I yeah, don't worry about it because I tell you I can't hear it right now.
00:01:54.799 --> 00:01:59.280
I I can't hear it um unless it's just dead silence.
00:02:00.000 --> 00:02:12.240
I but when I first came into the office here, before I had I I didn't have the board like set as the output or whatever for the computer.
00:02:12.400 --> 00:02:12.560
Right.
00:02:12.719 --> 00:02:17.599
So it's outputting on the laptop speaker, and man, all you can hear is that fish tank on there.
00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:19.599
It's like fucking Niagara Falls.
00:02:19.759 --> 00:02:22.000
Yeah, but I can't hear it when it's through the head, the board and the headphones.
00:02:22.159 --> 00:02:23.520
It's so weird, but that's weird.
00:02:23.680 --> 00:02:28.879
Yeah, and so that's why I was a couple minutes late because I walked in and I was like, oh god, what's broken in my house?
00:02:29.039 --> 00:02:29.680
What's dripping?
00:02:30.639 --> 00:02:31.680
No, I didn't, yeah.
00:02:32.000 --> 00:02:33.199
It was me, it was me the whole time.
00:02:33.280 --> 00:02:33.840
That's hilarious.
00:02:34.159 --> 00:02:36.159
Yeah, but uh, alrighty.
00:02:36.479 --> 00:02:39.360
Um, so alright.
00:02:39.599 --> 00:02:41.680
Uh 230, 240.
00:02:41.840 --> 00:02:45.360
Okay, I'll just mark this and you can start when you want to start.
00:02:45.759 --> 00:02:45.919
Okay.
00:02:47.680 --> 00:02:51.199
Welcome back, everyone, to another episode of Damn It.
00:02:51.520 --> 00:02:52.400
Let's do that again.
00:02:52.639 --> 00:02:55.039
Three, two, one.
00:02:56.000 --> 00:02:58.560
Welcome back, everyone, to another swing shift.
00:02:58.639 --> 00:03:02.240
I'm your host, Rob, and I'm also here with my co-host RJ.
00:03:02.560 --> 00:03:03.680
Say hi to the folks.
00:03:04.000 --> 00:03:05.840
Hi to the folks.
00:03:06.800 --> 00:03:07.759
Hey, folks.
00:03:09.599 --> 00:03:10.479
So how you been?
00:03:10.800 --> 00:03:12.240
Oh, pretty good, actually.
00:03:12.479 --> 00:03:13.199
How about you?
00:03:13.439 --> 00:03:13.759
Yeah.
00:03:14.159 --> 00:03:16.400
I've been very good.
00:03:16.639 --> 00:03:17.199
Very busy.
00:03:17.439 --> 00:03:17.919
Very busy.
00:03:18.159 --> 00:03:18.400
Yeah.
00:03:18.560 --> 00:03:20.240
You're usually really busy.
00:03:20.479 --> 00:03:26.719
Um, that's I don't know how you do it sometimes, but I'm glad to hear that you're doing that you're very good.
00:03:27.199 --> 00:03:29.360
Yeah, yeah, gotta be, gotta be good.
00:03:29.599 --> 00:03:32.159
What uh what's new in your neck of the woods?
00:03:32.479 --> 00:03:36.000
Uh well not a lot.
00:03:36.080 --> 00:03:41.520
Oh, probably a lot, because I'm I'm always doing like 10 million different things, although nothing ever comes to fruition necessarily.
00:03:42.000 --> 00:04:03.759
Uh I'll tell you like a minor just uh funny thing from I think yesterday, which is um it's just like so me, like how I feel about my life sometimes, is I ran to ran to town to mail some stuff, send some send some packages, get some grocery, get prescription, all that a whole bunch of crap.
00:04:04.080 --> 00:04:08.639
And I was just I was so I was down, I was down there for like a couple hours.
00:04:08.800 --> 00:04:29.279
I was killing time between things, waiting for this, waiting for that, and just like kind of cruising around, and I glanced down at my my dash and had just like right as I glanced down, it turned over uh 203,000 miles on my truck, uh Ranch Force one, and uh what a machine that is, right?
00:04:29.680 --> 00:04:31.120
It is actually pretty impressive.
00:04:31.360 --> 00:04:33.920
Yeah, it's a beast, uh, which leads me to my problem.
00:04:34.079 --> 00:04:35.279
Why my life is terrible.
00:04:35.439 --> 00:04:39.120
Um, I saw that, I'm like, you, you son of a bitch.
00:04:39.279 --> 00:04:40.399
I said, look at you.
00:04:40.560 --> 00:04:41.759
You are what a machine.
00:04:41.839 --> 00:04:44.480
Then in my head, I'm thinking, this really is awesome.
00:04:44.720 --> 00:04:49.759
Like how fortunate I've been with this truck, and it's just turned over 203,000 miles.
00:04:49.839 --> 00:04:54.879
And that mid-century stone like an airplane, you know, boom, boom.
00:04:54.959 --> 00:04:59.120
And I look down, check engine light literally fucking came on right at that moment.
00:04:59.199 --> 00:05:00.800
I'm like, oh my god.
00:05:02.319 --> 00:05:03.920
I can't enjoy anything.
00:05:04.240 --> 00:05:05.199
Yeah, yeah.
00:05:05.360 --> 00:05:07.120
So what what what did it end up being?
00:05:07.279 --> 00:05:07.600
I don't know.
00:05:07.680 --> 00:05:08.319
I haven't checked it.
00:05:08.480 --> 00:05:17.120
It was um, you know, I've only had one problem with that truck, which is god like over I think over like two years ago, maybe a little more.
00:05:17.279 --> 00:05:19.600
Um, when you were here that one time.
00:05:19.920 --> 00:05:21.439
That was a that was a problem too.
00:05:21.920 --> 00:05:24.879
Why don't you explain to everybody what was going on with it too?
00:05:25.120 --> 00:05:26.480
It was misfiring.
00:05:27.120 --> 00:05:31.199
Okay, and then what it ended up being the problem though, why was it misfiring?
00:05:31.360 --> 00:05:32.720
Oh god, it's just so stupid.
00:05:33.199 --> 00:05:36.879
You know, less stupid why more stupid, just the repair.
00:05:37.279 --> 00:05:43.279
But um no, let me well let me jump back to present for a quick second and say that come on.
00:05:43.439 --> 00:05:54.160
So it's been no, I will I'll tell that, but like so it's been like two years, more than two years probably since it's had any issue or check engine light or anything, and that's why I was praising it, and then mid-praise check engine light came on.
00:05:54.319 --> 00:05:56.720
Um, but to answer your question, I don't still love me, Daddy.
00:05:57.040 --> 00:06:00.879
Yeah, I don't I don't know because I didn't scan it yet.
00:06:01.040 --> 00:06:05.839
Um, but the more the important thing is it was not a flashing check engine light.
00:06:05.920 --> 00:06:06.720
So that's good.
00:06:06.879 --> 00:06:07.439
That's good, yeah.
00:06:07.600 --> 00:06:12.240
Yeah, I mean the diagnostician in me is like, okay, so any symptoms?
00:06:13.360 --> 00:06:14.319
No, yeah.
00:06:14.480 --> 00:06:24.319
Of course, then I had like another hour, you know, of running around and stuff to do after it came on, and it was some million degrees, and I always worry about in the back of my head there's always something worrying about.
00:06:24.480 --> 00:06:26.959
Yeah, engines when it's super hot, whatever.
00:06:27.120 --> 00:06:27.839
But no, it was fine.
00:06:27.920 --> 00:06:29.360
I was listening for stuff, whatever.
00:06:29.519 --> 00:06:39.040
In fact, it's I I swear it was running a little bit better after it came on, and I'm like, must be some emissions thing that it like it disabled it and it's not working well, and so I don't know.
00:06:39.199 --> 00:06:48.160
But yeah, that thing that you're talking about a couple years ago, it started misfiring and uh like it's cylinder eight misfire.
00:06:48.720 --> 00:06:49.759
Cylinder eight.
00:06:50.560 --> 00:06:53.600
Uh cylinder eight cylinder eight.
00:06:53.920 --> 00:07:01.600
And uh it was, of course, you know, it the first the first real problem I've had with that truck since I've moved out here.
00:07:01.759 --> 00:07:10.879
And it happened when I was en route to Houston to pick you up from there for uh eight-cylinder engine is misfiring a one-cylinder.
00:07:11.199 --> 00:07:34.160
It's not like it wasn't running, but I had stopped halfway to Houston to get gas and start it back up, and it was a you know, like Tel was misfiring the engine, the check engine last flashing, and I'm like, it'll probably make it, but I think probably is not where we want to be right now, and also like it's not good to run an engine with a dead cylinder, right?
00:07:34.319 --> 00:07:43.279
So no, no, and for context for for the listeners too, like I mean, going to Houston is what two and a half hours from where you live.
00:07:44.079 --> 00:07:46.639
Yeah, it's uh and yeah.
00:07:47.199 --> 00:07:58.240
Going back to talking about you going to town, I mean, even that is kind of a a bit of an event in and of itself because you're about 20 to 25 minutes from the closest city to do any shopping, right?
00:07:58.399 --> 00:07:59.680
Yeah, yeah, no, good point.
00:07:59.839 --> 00:08:04.160
Um, yeah, uh so the Houston thing, you know, at that point I was halfway down there.
00:08:04.240 --> 00:08:07.759
I was looking at another probably four hours of running it.
00:08:07.839 --> 00:08:11.120
If I were to continue going to Houston and get you and come back.
00:08:11.439 --> 00:08:14.000
Um and who knows if it would have made it.
00:08:14.079 --> 00:08:18.480
And then if it did, we would have had another problem, which is you know, if we need to get parts or whatever.
00:08:19.600 --> 00:08:23.680
And back then, uh, you know, this was the only highway vehicle that I had.
00:08:23.920 --> 00:08:27.839
So anyway, yeah, uh yeah.
00:08:28.000 --> 00:08:34.799
I've got uh I've got a few trucks now, but um, you know, the LR3 getting that about a year ago.
00:08:34.879 --> 00:08:39.600
That's so I do have two properly proper highway, good vehicles for highway now.
00:08:39.679 --> 00:08:47.840
But anyway, um yeah, so I like to I sent you a text because you're in the air, and I'm like, call me when you land.
00:08:48.559 --> 00:08:52.399
And then I turned around and and started headed home.
00:08:52.559 --> 00:08:57.840
Um then you get in a car and I was pain in the ass for you, but uh whatever.
00:08:58.000 --> 00:09:08.159
Um got back here and we uh you know, we changed the plugs, did some stuff, I don't know, a couple things, and put it all back together and it was that was great.
00:09:08.320 --> 00:09:09.039
No misfire.
00:09:09.200 --> 00:09:10.720
Took it to town, blah-da, da-da-da.
00:09:11.360 --> 00:09:14.480
And uh then we went somewhere the next day and it was doing it again.
00:09:14.559 --> 00:09:36.240
And so long story short on this thing is it had a bad injector on the cylinder eight and the and it was kind of intermittent, although it took about three weeks for me to get it resolved, which for my situation back uh back then especially was terrifying, very stressful.
00:09:36.399 --> 00:09:42.879
Um, the smiling means of transportation, like Rob said, I'm not close to things, I don't have close neighbors, whatever.
00:09:43.120 --> 00:09:54.799
So uh and over those core those three weeks, you know, I had I had to drive sometimes, and so it became it went from intermittent to very not intermittent all the time.
00:09:57.200 --> 00:10:02.159
Yeah, and so it's kind of a pain in the butt to change the injectors on these engines.
00:10:02.320 --> 00:10:05.679
Um, it's a Chevy 5.3 phenomenal engine.
00:10:05.759 --> 00:10:06.720
I love it, by the way.
00:10:06.960 --> 00:10:09.519
It's a one of the best-made powertrains, yeah.
00:10:09.679 --> 00:10:13.600
So smooth, it's got you know power for days, whatever.
00:10:13.840 --> 00:10:22.159
Um, but it's a pain in the butt because the injector is um it it's attached to the fuel rail.
00:10:22.399 --> 00:10:31.679
So if you're taking out one injector, you're taking out all four on one side, and cylinder eight is all the way on the back of the passenger side.
00:10:31.759 --> 00:10:33.600
It's the most difficult to get to by far.
00:10:34.159 --> 00:10:34.480
Yep.
00:10:34.720 --> 00:10:36.720
Um, and knucklebuster.
00:10:36.960 --> 00:10:38.000
It really is, yeah.
00:10:38.159 --> 00:10:50.159
Yeah, but what really freaking sucked though is once I'd gone through everything else, blah, blah, blah, and decided it was the injector, um, pulled, you know, took it all apart again.
00:10:50.399 --> 00:10:56.639
And when I popped that fuel rail off, uh the top half of the fuel injector came out with it.
00:10:57.360 --> 00:10:58.080
Oh shit.
00:10:58.159 --> 00:10:59.039
I don't remember that part.
00:11:00.480 --> 00:11:02.240
That was terrible.
00:11:02.480 --> 00:11:08.399
Um and the injectors are just they're just kind of pressed, they're not bolt bolted or anything to the engine.
00:11:08.559 --> 00:11:13.440
They're bolted to the fuel rail, and then they're just kind of press fit in, and they got little O-rings and stuff.
00:11:13.759 --> 00:11:26.159
Um, so there was about like three-quarters of an inch left of this thing down on the top of the cylinder that you can't see because it's so far back there, there's no clearance.
00:11:26.639 --> 00:11:31.519
And I was just I think I cried for a little bit, man enough to have for a minute.
00:11:31.759 --> 00:11:34.000
So I'm like, this is bad.
00:11:34.159 --> 00:11:36.240
This is potentially catastrophic.
00:11:36.480 --> 00:11:41.440
Um just in terms of you know, worst case scenario, I'd have to get towed or whatever.
00:11:41.679 --> 00:11:45.039
So I eventually, I don't know.
00:11:45.120 --> 00:11:55.279
I think it took me about two days of often on fucking with it and wrenches and weird things and angles and stuff, and I just eventually got it out, and I was like, oh, thank God.
00:11:55.679 --> 00:11:57.919
Um and then you cried some more.
00:11:58.159 --> 00:12:01.279
I did, yes, I did, I'm sure.
00:12:01.840 --> 00:12:06.879
And uh, you know, from there it was just like the Haynes manual says installation is reverse of removal.
00:12:07.200 --> 00:12:13.039
So just do all the same steps, but uh from bottom to top.
00:12:13.279 --> 00:12:13.600
Yeah.
00:12:13.759 --> 00:12:18.799
Well, I'd gotten at this point really good at taking like pretty much the whole top of the engine off.
00:12:18.960 --> 00:12:19.840
Like, yeah.
00:12:20.159 --> 00:12:27.600
I literally I think the last time I took it all off, which there's a number of things you have to take off, including the intake manifold.
00:12:28.559 --> 00:12:30.879
Like the first time I did was probably like two and a half hours.
00:12:31.120 --> 00:12:33.440
The last time I did it was 12 minutes.
00:12:34.879 --> 00:12:44.720
So you better believe that once I had that injector out and I looked it over real good, make sure nothing appeared like had broken off inside, and just took a look at the cylinders.
00:12:44.799 --> 00:12:46.399
Okay, everything looks clean, fine.
00:12:46.559 --> 00:12:49.519
I it was back together in 15 minutes and running.
00:12:50.240 --> 00:12:57.919
So that goes out to anybody that uh that's listening that maybe work for an F1 or NASCAR company race team.
00:12:58.159 --> 00:13:01.039
Um he's got pit crew potential.
00:13:02.320 --> 00:13:13.360
Part of my trick is uh every time I work on my truck, um, the number of parts that come off of it is always just a little bit more than the parts that go back on.
00:13:13.840 --> 00:13:15.360
Like, where did that screw come from?
00:13:15.440 --> 00:13:16.159
Oh well.
00:13:16.399 --> 00:13:24.240
There's that, yeah, that and like um, you know, like trim covers and oh yeah, this, that, and the other.
00:13:24.399 --> 00:13:29.360
I mean, because there's a whole I think there's a whole cover that goes over the intake manifold.
00:13:29.519 --> 00:13:31.279
Yeah, that's in the whatever.
00:13:31.519 --> 00:13:36.080
Um I have a lot of parts of my truck in the barn.
00:13:36.399 --> 00:13:41.919
You know, one of the things I didn't think about until just you saying that is you're always bragging about the fuel economy.
00:13:42.000 --> 00:13:45.279
Well, you've dropped the weight by like probably 20% since you moved out there.
00:13:45.519 --> 00:13:47.360
I'm telling you, it's a performance mod.
00:13:47.440 --> 00:13:56.879
Um starting with you know a third of the rear bumper, um deciding it didn't want to be it didn't want to be a bumper no more.
00:13:57.039 --> 00:14:01.919
Um it's starting to look more like a rat rod, not really a performance mod.
00:14:02.240 --> 00:14:03.120
I'll tell you what.
00:14:03.200 --> 00:14:09.360
Uh aesthetically, it's you know, it's a far cry from its Celine Dion days.
00:14:09.519 --> 00:14:11.679
Let's just put it that way.
00:14:12.159 --> 00:14:15.120
Oh, you gotta you gotta fill everybody in on that part too.
00:14:15.360 --> 00:14:16.559
Yeah, uh yeah.
00:14:16.720 --> 00:14:18.240
This this poor truck.
00:14:18.399 --> 00:14:28.240
Uh and again, it's a beast, it's a machine, apart from that one issue, which happened that you know had 180 or whatever, a thousand miles on it, so I guess can't complain of an injector go out.
00:14:28.639 --> 00:14:36.480
Um and inside, I mean, it's um it's the top end spec, just beautiful truck.
00:14:36.559 --> 00:14:42.879
Never looks beautiful on the outside because it's just I mean, it's always you can't keep it clean on here, it's always dirty.
00:14:43.120 --> 00:14:48.879
Uh it's been sitting, it's been sun-baked at the ranch for several years in the paints, you know, whatever.
00:14:49.200 --> 00:15:06.639
But uh in its former life, it was uh an Uber Black in Colorado, and um it conveyed one Celine Dion on only one occasion, I will say.
00:15:07.120 --> 00:15:10.159
Yes, but she sat in that vehicle.
00:15:10.639 --> 00:15:11.919
Let's put it this way.
00:15:12.159 --> 00:15:23.759
If she went missing like like Nancy Guthrie and it came down to it and they were doing DNA swabs in my truck, well, I I'd be in deep shit.
00:15:24.720 --> 00:15:29.039
Be a a little bit of Celine Dion and a lot of dog vomit.
00:15:29.440 --> 00:15:30.000
Right.
00:15:30.240 --> 00:15:31.519
And dog piss.
00:15:31.759 --> 00:15:35.360
Um, although that only happened once, but it was an enormous amount.
00:15:35.679 --> 00:15:45.600
And if you ever want to know uh how how big of a job is it to remove the entire interior of the vehicle short of the front seats?
00:15:45.840 --> 00:15:46.720
Uh a lot.
00:15:46.879 --> 00:15:47.679
It's horrible.
00:15:47.840 --> 00:15:50.240
Um, so don't don't let yeah.
00:15:50.399 --> 00:15:57.840
So pick when you pick your dogs up from that all day vet thing, you know, to get a spay or whatever, you drop them off at seven, you pick them up at four.
00:15:58.159 --> 00:15:59.679
Do the do the smart thing.
00:15:59.840 --> 00:16:02.799
Take them out to Tingle before you get on the road for half an hour.
00:16:03.600 --> 00:16:04.960
Potty break would be helpful.
00:16:05.120 --> 00:16:06.320
Well, yeah, okay.
00:16:06.399 --> 00:16:08.000
So back to talking it.
00:16:08.240 --> 00:16:08.720
No, no, no.
00:16:09.039 --> 00:16:10.000
Oh man.
00:16:10.320 --> 00:16:10.720
No, yeah.
00:16:10.879 --> 00:16:11.519
Okay, keep going.
00:16:11.679 --> 00:16:18.000
Yeah, Seling Dion, I'm a huge fan, which uh uh it's surprising in some regards.
00:16:18.080 --> 00:16:20.240
I'm not like a huge fan of her music per se.
00:16:20.320 --> 00:16:22.159
Although I will say it's objectively fantastic.
00:16:22.240 --> 00:16:23.039
She's amazing.
00:16:23.200 --> 00:16:29.279
Um, just a huge fan of her, like her character, and you know, she had that stiff man syndrome and overgone, whatever.
00:16:30.320 --> 00:16:32.960
But yeah, point being, so back to the truck.
00:16:33.200 --> 00:16:36.240
Uh it is the Celine Dion spec.
00:16:36.720 --> 00:16:45.279
So I mean, and I never sat out, I never sought out to get like the fully loaded version of a suburban.
00:16:45.519 --> 00:16:47.360
It's just that's how the that's how it shook out.
00:16:47.440 --> 00:16:56.320
Because I bought it at the toward the very beginning of the pandemic, right before or as vehicle prices were going up, up, you know, about to go up like crazy.
00:16:56.799 --> 00:17:03.840
So I just got what I could get, and it's you know, the top specs, so it's a leather, it's got like 18 screens in it, all this crap.
00:17:03.919 --> 00:17:08.240
Well, Celine Dion needs her, she needs her second row or third row screen, depending on.
00:17:08.480 --> 00:17:11.680
Um, but yeah, it's so in that regard it's really cool.
00:17:11.759 --> 00:17:20.720
So I mean, it's so it's full-blown truck, four-wheel drive, very capable out here, but at the same time, it's uh it's a pretty nice ride going on the highway.
00:17:21.039 --> 00:17:25.599
You know what makes it really cool is if all those features that you listed off actually worked.
00:17:26.000 --> 00:17:28.000
Um a lot of them do.
00:17:28.160 --> 00:17:30.319
Well, the ones that I listed off work.
00:17:30.640 --> 00:17:33.119
Um I will say there are a lot of collision avoidance?
00:17:33.440 --> 00:17:34.880
I didn't I didn't list that.
00:17:35.519 --> 00:17:35.759
I know.
00:17:35.839 --> 00:17:38.400
I'm just asking, does collision avoidance work?
00:17:38.720 --> 00:17:39.039
No.
00:17:39.440 --> 00:17:39.759
Okay.
00:17:40.079 --> 00:17:43.599
But I mean, got the radio to work after it stopped.
00:17:43.920 --> 00:17:47.759
It didn't it never stopped working, it just sort of took on a its own personality.
00:17:48.400 --> 00:17:52.960
It really did really, really inconvenient.
00:17:53.359 --> 00:18:05.519
Um and uh yeah, well, I was gonna say, you know, collision avoidance uh the system that tells me that the collision avoidance system doesn't work works, so that's something.
00:18:05.920 --> 00:18:07.200
Okay, that's good.
00:18:07.359 --> 00:18:09.599
I mean, uh positive through a negative.
00:18:09.759 --> 00:18:19.119
I mean, I guess another piece of it too is that majority of the collision avoidance uh hardware is sitting in the barn, so that's probably part of the problem.
00:18:19.519 --> 00:18:21.200
Oh percentage of it.
00:18:21.359 --> 00:18:22.319
I mean, not the majority.
00:18:22.720 --> 00:18:23.440
Percentage.
00:18:24.960 --> 00:18:33.839
Well, what if I told you that one percent of something would make the rest of the 99% work or not work?
00:18:34.319 --> 00:18:42.079
I would say that uh that's usually not true, but um in the context of one of these systems, I understand it is true because you told me that.
00:18:42.240 --> 00:18:46.000
Um I'm like, I don't understand.
00:18:46.799 --> 00:18:48.880
It's like it's just a third of a bumper, yeah.
00:18:49.200 --> 00:18:49.599
Maybe three.
00:18:52.240 --> 00:18:54.799
But yeah, it is one of those things, it's all or nothing.
00:18:54.960 --> 00:19:01.440
Um because because you know it's got the radar cruise control, it's got uh all that stuff that goes along with it.
00:19:01.519 --> 00:19:02.240
That's fantastic.
00:19:02.319 --> 00:19:06.079
That would be really cool if it worked, but um it doesn't.
00:19:06.319 --> 00:19:12.559
And uh, oh, it has a heads-up display, which I don't even know that that that year had them.
00:19:12.799 --> 00:19:13.759
They offered them all.
00:19:14.079 --> 00:19:14.960
Did you know that?
00:19:15.279 --> 00:19:19.839
Yeah, you told me, I mean, every time you pick me up, you're like, hey, do you know this thing has a heads-up display?
00:19:20.160 --> 00:19:20.720
Whatever.
00:19:20.960 --> 00:19:30.640
Um I only discovered it accidentally because I was doing diagnostics on it, and I hook, you know, I hook up one of those uh thing uh computers to the OBD2 where you can do actuation tests.
00:19:30.720 --> 00:19:34.400
Um I just like said actuate everything on the instrument cluster.
00:19:34.480 --> 00:19:36.240
I'm like, oh my god, heads up display.
00:19:36.319 --> 00:19:37.039
I didn't know.
00:19:37.200 --> 00:19:41.119
Um never actually seen the heads-up display though.
00:19:41.359 --> 00:19:44.880
I've seen it on during a test.
00:19:45.759 --> 00:19:47.599
Okay, hey, yeah, I mean that's cool.
00:19:47.920 --> 00:19:52.720
You know, there's a I'm not saying that this is a special Celine Dion spec vehicle.
00:19:52.880 --> 00:19:57.200
I will say though, there are a couple apart from those things.
00:19:57.519 --> 00:20:03.119
So just assume it's fully loaded, because I mean it's got every option you can get on LTZ suburban, whatever.
00:20:03.279 --> 00:20:05.599
There's a couple other things that I think even surprised you.
00:20:05.680 --> 00:20:13.279
Like it's got a tow rating that's about a thousand pounds higher than the highest tow rating I can find on book for that year, Suburban.
00:20:13.680 --> 00:20:18.960
Um, and then the other thing, which you may just be wrong about this, it has a 30-gallon fuel tank.
00:20:19.519 --> 00:20:27.920
And you actually told me you said that would have to be like a special sack or whatever, because it just they don't come with that.
00:20:28.240 --> 00:20:29.200
They don't, yeah.
00:20:29.279 --> 00:20:30.160
So I don't know.
00:20:30.319 --> 00:20:33.200
Um that maybe Miss Dolnsat there.
00:20:33.279 --> 00:20:34.960
I think 30 gallon tank.
00:20:35.359 --> 00:20:35.920
I think so.
00:20:36.160 --> 00:20:36.480
I think so.
00:20:36.880 --> 00:20:38.480
That was actually a really good impression.
00:20:38.559 --> 00:20:40.240
That's I'm kind of impressed.
00:20:40.480 --> 00:20:40.880
Thank you.
00:20:41.039 --> 00:20:41.759
Thank you.
00:20:42.000 --> 00:20:50.480
Um well uh so so I guess the point I was kind of driving at is you've you've taken off the top end of the motor.
00:20:51.519 --> 00:20:57.039
You've completely well almost completely disassembled the entire interior.
00:20:57.279 --> 00:21:04.880
Uh well um yeah, and including a good portion of the dash and your efforts of repairing the radio.
00:21:05.119 --> 00:21:05.519
That's true.
00:21:05.759 --> 00:21:14.319
But in addition to that, um you've also exposed a lot of the rear end through various collisions and mishaps.
00:21:14.640 --> 00:21:18.720
So you really do know this truck inside and out.
00:21:18.960 --> 00:21:20.559
Wait a minute, collisions?
00:21:21.039 --> 00:21:21.759
Oh, never mind.
00:21:21.920 --> 00:21:23.039
I don't want to talk about that.
00:21:23.200 --> 00:21:32.079
Um I don't know what you're talking about, but you're talking about when I crashed my truck into my other truck, right?
00:21:32.160 --> 00:21:33.519
When I was trying to get my truck unstuck.
00:21:34.400 --> 00:21:37.200
Which is the greatest video to date that I've ever seen.
00:21:37.440 --> 00:21:40.720
I'll make you, I was gonna say I'll never see the light of day, but I'll make you a deal.
00:21:40.880 --> 00:21:46.799
You helped me out with getting this uh this mama mike wedding video where they do the Macarino.
00:21:47.119 --> 00:21:49.039
So I can publish that uh, you know.
00:21:49.279 --> 00:21:50.640
Remember that from Set and Center?
00:21:50.960 --> 00:22:04.240
Uh yeah, you help me out on that, and I will we can put we can put the video out of uh I don't know if I screamed, but if I didn't, I it's probably just because there was no audio.
00:22:04.319 --> 00:22:05.119
I don't know.
00:22:07.759 --> 00:22:20.160
Yeah, I think there was some some gasping involved, not necessarily screaming, but it was more the visual of you realizing what was happening and your your attempt, your feeble attempt at trying to avoid that from happening.
00:22:21.119 --> 00:22:21.680
Yeah.
00:22:22.000 --> 00:22:32.319
It was uh I'm gonna give myself a little little more credit than that and say I I fully understood what was happening.
00:22:32.480 --> 00:22:35.759
And I didn't try right like and I didn't try.
00:22:40.480 --> 00:22:42.000
You know, I clearly didn't try to do that.
00:22:42.079 --> 00:22:44.400
But you could see hence the feeble part.
00:22:44.720 --> 00:22:49.759
Well, I think the feebleness came in where I was like, oh you can see me like, oh, I should do this.
00:22:49.920 --> 00:22:52.240
No, I can't like reach uh no.
00:22:52.559 --> 00:23:02.400
But let me paint a picture for people though, like so uh F F1, yeah, F150, 2009 F150.
00:23:02.480 --> 00:23:05.680
I got as a package deal, um pretty good price.
00:23:05.920 --> 00:23:07.440
Came with a free Sport 10.
00:23:07.519 --> 00:23:08.559
That's pretty badass.
00:23:08.720 --> 00:23:12.240
But uh S10 for the layman per for the layman.
00:23:12.480 --> 00:23:14.640
Well, I've heard of those.
00:23:14.799 --> 00:23:16.880
Uh Sport 10.
00:23:17.039 --> 00:23:19.279
Um anyway, it was a ranch truck.
00:23:19.359 --> 00:23:21.680
Uh like I got it for really cheap.
00:23:21.920 --> 00:23:26.079
And it had it had some it had some engine price, I can't remember.
00:23:26.160 --> 00:23:27.119
Oh the phasers.
00:23:27.359 --> 00:23:31.519
It had something with that, I think it was a 4.6 Triton V8.
00:23:31.759 --> 00:23:33.119
Uh no, it was 5.4.
00:23:33.200 --> 00:23:34.079
It was a 5.4.
00:23:34.559 --> 00:23:39.440
Um had something that you know, it was like a couple things I didn't it.
00:23:39.519 --> 00:23:45.200
It wasn't the highway vehicle, so it was it became a ranch truck, and man, we got a lot of use out of it.
00:23:45.440 --> 00:23:50.960
Um and uh it got stuck a lot.
00:23:51.200 --> 00:23:54.160
It well, it was two-wheel drive with shitty tires.
00:23:54.720 --> 00:23:58.240
All right, it's one, it's really one-wheel drive, let's be honest.
00:23:58.640 --> 00:24:00.079
Uh yeah, well, yeah.
00:24:00.240 --> 00:24:04.160
Uh it's no-wheel drive anymore, but uh yeah.
00:24:05.680 --> 00:24:08.559
Uh so yeah, it got stuck quite a bit.
00:24:08.799 --> 00:24:16.799
Um, because it had really bad, just really bad summer road tires, and it was two-wheel drive, which is just it's no, it's no blade.
00:24:16.880 --> 00:24:17.440
I'm out here.
00:24:17.599 --> 00:24:23.839
And so one particular thing, I it was stuck kind of uh kind of down near the ponds.
00:24:24.000 --> 00:24:30.240
So like from the house here at the ranch, it slopes down about 300 feet, gentle slope, down to the ponds.
00:24:30.400 --> 00:24:41.599
So it's kind of stuck on that slope, and um, I had attempted to pull it out with the ranch with Ranch Force One, my truck, front ways going uphill, and it didn't work.
00:24:41.759 --> 00:24:49.359
Um, and part of it was because it got, you know, got stuck, and so the back end, the rear end, the diff, and everything were, you know, in uh the ground, right?
00:24:49.680 --> 00:24:50.079
Yep.
00:24:50.319 --> 00:24:57.039
And uh so I thought, well, you decided to let gravity help I'll pull it out from behind.
00:24:57.279 --> 00:25:12.720
And I'm not a complete moron because I understand how gravity works, and yeah, I know that there's uh so I know A, I need to, you know, not B in its path, but then there's also B in this case, which is there's a bond behind it.
00:25:13.039 --> 00:25:28.960
Uh now and these are all contingency things, of course, because I was like, I'm gonna I'm gonna put a strap on it, I'm gonna get to suburban behind it, and I'm gonna just pull, give it some gentle pulls and tell it just just to break it loose, and then I'll go jump in and whatever.
00:25:29.279 --> 00:25:32.799
Well, there's no difference between stuck and rolling.
00:25:33.200 --> 00:25:36.480
Like it when it broke loose, it just started rolling.
00:25:36.640 --> 00:25:55.119
And uh I had the I had the the foresight to put a little GoPro on just on a magnet mount on the side of it, which was fortuitous because it was pointed back and you see the suburban and then tug, and then all of a sudden, oh shit.
00:25:55.440 --> 00:25:59.759
All of a sudden, moving and the suburban is not.
00:26:00.000 --> 00:26:01.599
The suburban is not, yeah.
00:26:02.640 --> 00:26:23.440
And the thing is well, this was a stupid thing to do, I guess, but then at the same time, like the reason why it hit this it hit the suburban and took out some of the taillight is the same reason why I'm kind of smart, because like in that video, you'll very clearly see a suburban was not straight line behind the truck, the F150.
00:26:23.680 --> 00:26:24.799
No, no, offset.
00:26:25.119 --> 00:26:26.079
I knew it was gonna happen.
00:26:26.160 --> 00:26:29.119
Well, I knew what could happen, and it was offset.
00:26:29.920 --> 00:26:32.960
Just about two degrees, not enough, as it turns out.
00:26:34.000 --> 00:26:55.759
And uh and I had done it in such a way that if you know it happened to break loose and start rolling, which of course I figured it wasn't going to, parentheses it did, that there were there were trees, so like right to the side of the F-150 or the suburban, or there were big pines that you know would stop it, and probably in calamitous fashion, but would stop it.
00:26:56.240 --> 00:27:04.880
And so, yes, it ended up breaking loose, and then you see brake brake lights on the suburban, it stops F-150's rolling.
00:27:05.839 --> 00:27:12.079
You see the reverse lights flash as I'm putting it in park, door opens, I come out hands in the air, probably.
00:27:13.359 --> 00:27:16.720
It's not rolling fast, you know, but it's 6,000 pounds, so you're not gonna get in front of it.
00:27:16.880 --> 00:27:19.359
It's just kind of careening down.
00:27:20.000 --> 00:27:27.839
And then oh yeah, the sound was on because I remember the ghastly sound of when it sideswiped the back corner of the suburban.
00:27:29.119 --> 00:27:30.160
Oh my god.
00:27:30.640 --> 00:27:34.720
You just hear, oh shit, yeah.
00:27:35.759 --> 00:27:48.640
I think my the best part about that whole video though, is just watching watching you react to this whole thing taking place because you know you park it, there's a bit of a delay you getting out of the suburban.
00:27:48.960 --> 00:27:57.440
The door pops open, you careen around, you you just like instantly turn around to check on it, and then you kind of hesitate, like is that it it's still coming.
00:27:57.920 --> 00:28:04.559
And then it was this like hesitative, like kind of like half-attempted run that was very dainty as well.
00:28:04.880 --> 00:28:06.480
Uh dainty.
00:28:06.640 --> 00:28:11.839
Your hand, I could see your palms as you were as you were chugging your hands.
00:28:13.279 --> 00:28:14.880
If I hear that in your mind's eye, uh huh.
00:28:15.039 --> 00:28:16.720
Like, oh, uh oh, uh oh.
00:28:17.519 --> 00:28:24.720
And then uh and then all of a sudden the thing just yeah, goes right into the corner of the suburban, and it's just oh shit.
00:28:24.880 --> 00:28:25.279
Yeah.
00:28:25.440 --> 00:28:26.160
Oh my god.
00:28:26.480 --> 00:28:28.480
And then whack, right into a tree.
00:28:28.640 --> 00:28:29.680
It was fantastic.
00:28:29.839 --> 00:28:31.839
You know, I don't think it actually did hit a tree.
00:28:32.000 --> 00:28:34.640
Um, that was the other one.
00:28:35.039 --> 00:28:36.240
That was that was the time.
00:28:36.480 --> 00:28:39.119
That was the front of the F150, and that was a different thing.
00:28:39.279 --> 00:28:41.039
And let's finish this story.
00:28:41.119 --> 00:28:44.640
Uh yeah, it uh it actually ended up working.
00:28:45.279 --> 00:29:02.559
I got kind of lucky in a sense because um, I think what had happened is the uh well basically like it didn't it didn't end up hitting a tree because I think oh yeah, here's what happened.
00:29:02.799 --> 00:29:15.039
So as it was rolling toward the suburban, it uh and this is only probably like you know, 50 feet, you know, tops, probably more like 30 or 40 feet, because I was using a big strap.
00:29:15.680 --> 00:29:23.839
As it was rolling, what happened is uh I think the last little bit, it started to it started spinning the strap around its own tire.
00:29:24.880 --> 00:29:35.920
And so it sides which yeah, so it side swipe is suburban, but like basically, you know, after it did that, it ran out of slack and it was still attached to suburban.
00:29:36.240 --> 00:29:37.200
So that's crazy.
00:29:38.240 --> 00:29:40.000
The suburban stopped it and whatever.
00:29:40.160 --> 00:29:45.839
And somehow the suburban still gets credit for for saving the day.
00:29:46.000 --> 00:29:47.119
It does, it did.
00:29:47.359 --> 00:29:53.519
Um and it yes, the the tail light assembly, it didn't break it.
00:29:53.599 --> 00:30:08.319
What it did is it like just like it sheared like the side of it, and not even the thing, just like the glass, like the plastic cover of one side, not even uh but you know, and the weirdest and the taillight works fine, everything worked fine after that, whatever.
00:30:08.480 --> 00:30:22.720
But ever since then, for some reason it's got you know what ended up happening is the right indicator on the mirror, not the taillight, but the mirror stopped working after that, and now I get a rapid flash every time you use indicators.
00:30:23.359 --> 00:30:27.519
So basically the suburban's trying to act like the LR3.
00:30:28.319 --> 00:30:34.160
Um no, I got into a rear I got into a rear collision.
00:30:34.400 --> 00:30:36.400
Um the horn doesn't work.
00:30:36.640 --> 00:30:48.880
I was gonna say the difference is that uh with the suburban, um the the mode of failure here is at least conceivably consistent with what happened.
00:30:50.240 --> 00:30:54.079
You crash on the same side, you crash the truck into a turn signal thing.
00:30:54.720 --> 00:30:55.359
Yes, there's that.
00:30:55.440 --> 00:30:57.440
And then the other thing is it's consistent.
00:30:57.680 --> 00:30:58.480
Okay, yeah.
00:30:58.640 --> 00:31:06.319
Like the LR3, it's just like oh my god, it's so funny that damn thing.
00:31:06.559 --> 00:31:16.880
Like one of the so uh it alternates between either the oil pressure light is on or the brakes don't work light is on.
00:31:17.200 --> 00:31:20.720
But both of those things are fine, and neither one is on at the same time.
00:31:21.039 --> 00:31:29.440
And when the oil pressure light is on, then if you have the fog lights on, the fog light indicator light will work.
00:31:29.680 --> 00:31:35.039
However, when the oil pressure light is not on, and you have the fog lights on.
00:31:35.279 --> 00:31:35.759
No fog lights.
00:31:35.920 --> 00:31:37.119
No fog lights work fine.
00:31:37.279 --> 00:31:39.920
The fog light indicator light doesn't work.
00:31:42.160 --> 00:31:45.440
It would have been hilarious if you said the wipers don't work or something like that.
00:31:46.960 --> 00:32:00.079
It's uh well, there's something with the back windows where a certain combination of the order in which you open the door, put the key in, turn the key, move the uh shift.
00:32:00.160 --> 00:32:03.839
I swear to god, then the then the rear windows won't work for that particular session.
00:32:04.079 --> 00:32:08.000
Oh my god, that thing is so hilariously finicky.
00:32:08.240 --> 00:32:09.200
It's it's awesome.
00:32:09.279 --> 00:32:10.160
Yeah, amazing.
00:32:10.400 --> 00:32:24.079
Well, and the I think one I discovered after you left, um uh the FM radio antenna is great, it's actually much better than the one in my Sbourbin.
00:32:24.240 --> 00:32:30.559
Um, unless you're using the rear window defroster and the LR, in which case it doesn't work at all.
00:32:31.440 --> 00:32:33.440
Just static.
00:32:33.519 --> 00:32:35.039
I'm like, this is so fun.
00:32:36.079 --> 00:32:37.680
Oh, oh man.
00:32:37.839 --> 00:32:38.880
Yeah, it's a great.
00:32:39.119 --> 00:32:45.599
I mean, I think the thing that I love most about it is that it'll tell you every fucking thing that's wrong with it, too.
00:32:45.839 --> 00:32:48.720
It's like, hey, we lost FM signal.
00:32:48.880 --> 00:32:50.640
Like, I don't need a warning for that.
00:32:51.039 --> 00:32:56.160
I mean, everything, everything that goes wrong with it's like the the moonroof is inactive right now.
00:32:56.400 --> 00:32:58.720
Yes, yeah, it I know.
00:32:59.119 --> 00:33:08.799
Um, and it's uh another thing, the thing I love about it is mechanically it's fucking tank.
00:33:08.960 --> 00:33:10.960
I mean Yeah, it's it's a great truck.
00:33:11.200 --> 00:33:15.519
It's got uh it's got a 4.4 liter V8.
00:33:16.160 --> 00:33:20.720
It's got uh like the fucking subframe on this thing.
00:33:20.799 --> 00:33:27.680
It's unbelievable, but and it weighs, it weighs like 500 pounds more than a suburb.
00:33:28.240 --> 00:33:29.039
Oh my gosh.
00:33:29.200 --> 00:33:35.920
Yeah, and it's not well don't forget the the best feature of that truck too, which is it has 16 different size lug nuts.
00:33:36.559 --> 00:33:37.279
16.
00:33:37.680 --> 00:33:39.039
Uh not anymore.
00:33:40.079 --> 00:33:40.880
Oh, you fixed that.
00:33:40.960 --> 00:33:41.759
Oh yeah, that's right.
00:33:41.839 --> 00:33:42.799
Now we're down to 15.
00:33:43.200 --> 00:33:43.519
Yeah.
00:33:43.759 --> 00:33:46.319
Oh my god, that was that was unbelievable.
00:33:46.559 --> 00:34:14.079
I there was a there was a point, there was a stretch of time where I uh literally I was keeping five um different size sockets in the vehicle because I basically after you rotated the tires when we learned all this, I did the math and kind of went through afterwards and figured out that yeah, I'm gonna need like at least I'm gonna need these five sizes to be able to get off any one of the tires.
00:34:14.320 --> 00:34:15.119
Oh god.
00:34:15.280 --> 00:34:16.960
But yeah, I put new ones on there.
00:34:17.199 --> 00:34:18.960
Um good, yeah.
00:34:19.199 --> 00:34:25.039
And I thought you were gonna say it had 16 different off or suspension height settings.
00:34:25.599 --> 00:34:26.079
That too.
00:34:26.239 --> 00:34:27.840
Which is a very work.
00:34:28.239 --> 00:34:29.440
Well, no, they all work.
00:34:29.599 --> 00:34:37.440
It's just I was gonna say it's a very again British thing because it has three, there's a switch, it's got three settings.
00:34:37.760 --> 00:34:40.400
You got low, regular, and high, basically.
00:34:40.480 --> 00:34:41.519
Let's call them that.
00:34:42.079 --> 00:34:46.719
However, when you start reading the manual, there's another thing we discovered when we were working on it that day.
00:34:47.039 --> 00:34:49.519
Reading the manual, and it's got like 10.
00:34:50.079 --> 00:34:50.400
Yeah.
00:34:50.639 --> 00:34:57.199
There's like certain scenarios in which, you know, given this thing and this other thing, it'll go into sub-low height.
00:34:57.519 --> 00:35:10.079
Or if you're using off-road height and it detects a certain thing or a rock, it'll go on to off-road plus, but then off-road plus extra, you know, just it's it's like you want, yeah.
00:35:10.239 --> 00:35:18.079
It's not hard to figure out why it's got a lot of potential for electrical bucks because just so much crap in there.
00:35:19.679 --> 00:35:29.039
I think I think my favorite part about it too is the fact that it unleashes somehow more power if you set the suspension at its lowest setting.
00:35:29.199 --> 00:35:30.400
Only at that time, though.
00:35:30.719 --> 00:35:31.840
Less drag.
00:35:32.239 --> 00:35:33.280
Yeah, less drag.
00:35:33.360 --> 00:35:41.280
Less well, and and frankly, that was a brilliant design on on their part because that thing is a little fucking scary at highway speeds.
00:35:41.599 --> 00:35:42.639
Not not anymore.
00:35:42.880 --> 00:35:51.039
Yeah, well, yeah, and actually, um the tire rotation that you did, you know, the half the one that took half a day.
00:35:51.199 --> 00:35:55.679
Uh yeah, it it really uh it really solves almost all those problems.
00:35:56.000 --> 00:36:02.559
So it's pretty solid now on the highway, uh, which reminds me I do need to at some point just get the tires in to have them all rotated.
00:36:02.639 --> 00:36:05.760
But yeah, I think the tires that were on not rotated, I'm sorry.
00:36:05.920 --> 00:36:06.400
Balanced.
00:36:06.639 --> 00:36:06.960
Replaced?
00:36:07.039 --> 00:36:07.599
No, balanced.
00:36:07.840 --> 00:36:08.960
Oh, balanced, balanced, yeah.
00:36:09.119 --> 00:36:09.440
Yeah.
00:36:09.679 --> 00:36:16.480
Um, because yeah, the tires that were on the front were causing a little bit of squirreliness in the front end, um, a little shakiness.
00:36:16.719 --> 00:36:19.119
But uh little wandering.
00:36:19.360 --> 00:36:20.559
Well, wander it was wandery.
00:36:20.719 --> 00:36:21.599
Yeah, it was really wandery.
00:36:21.679 --> 00:36:32.719
And that was not that was what was kind of weird to me, like it because it didn't feel like tire issue, because it was just a little like yeah, wandering inconsistent.
00:36:33.039 --> 00:36:39.119
Yeah, like maybe you had a bad bushing on your suspension, or maybe something was a little loose on the steering, you know.
00:36:39.280 --> 00:36:41.519
But yeah, everything checked out, it was solid.
00:36:41.760 --> 00:36:42.960
Like, okay, this is weird.
00:36:43.119 --> 00:36:46.320
So it's like, all right, we'll just rotate the tires, and she's fine.
00:36:46.400 --> 00:36:47.039
Yeah, works great.
00:36:47.199 --> 00:36:48.000
Yeah, pretty much.
00:36:48.159 --> 00:36:53.519
Um, and uh he said it's got more pickup, but it went in low.
00:36:54.159 --> 00:37:04.960
So there's a there's a just reminding me, there's a uh another hidden suspension height mode, which I don't know what's called, but it's like called high speed cruise or something.
00:37:05.039 --> 00:37:05.599
I don't know.
00:37:05.840 --> 00:37:11.519
But like the because the lowest mode that you can switch it to is called, I think, um, entry.
00:37:12.239 --> 00:37:19.679
Basically, it's to be used, um, you know, very low speeds, uh, and to get in and out, that kind of stuff.
00:37:19.920 --> 00:37:33.760
But it's got this thing and it's in the mouth to find it, but I'm pretty sure it's a like 105 that it says above uh at speeds of 105 miles per hour and higher, the vehicle will lower an additional 13 millimeters.
00:37:34.559 --> 00:37:35.519
I swear to God.
00:37:35.840 --> 00:37:37.599
Like Jesus Christ.
00:37:40.000 --> 00:37:41.119
Yeah, it's a great track.
00:37:41.199 --> 00:37:41.920
I love that track.
00:37:42.079 --> 00:37:44.000
Yeah, it's a it's a hell of a lot of fun.
00:37:44.159 --> 00:37:49.679
Um and uh and you know, a lifesaver, which is what it was meant to be.
00:37:49.760 --> 00:37:53.039
Um, kind of going yeah full full circle on the suburban thing.
00:37:53.199 --> 00:38:00.880
Um, is I needed a uh reliable, capable, you know, four by four or whatever, blah blah blah.
00:38:01.039 --> 00:38:02.960
And so maybe me, I thought reliable?
00:38:03.039 --> 00:38:04.880
How about how about a Land Rover?
00:38:08.400 --> 00:38:09.599
Oh boy.
00:38:10.320 --> 00:38:12.320
Oh, but another boy did you get a good deal?
00:38:12.480 --> 00:38:13.280
Yeah, I did.
00:38:13.440 --> 00:38:16.800
Um another thing, because you said it tells you everything's wrong with it.
00:38:16.960 --> 00:38:22.000
I was out on the outside acreage one night, I think trying to pull the exped out.
00:38:22.239 --> 00:38:23.840
God, I get shit stuck a lot though.
00:38:24.000 --> 00:38:27.760
But anyway, exped was stuck out there and I was pulling it out.
00:38:27.840 --> 00:38:44.880
That was a pretty thick bramble I was driving through, and uh and ended up when I was driving back out, uh, ended up catching something, I don't know, I think a stick I caught in there and it severed the the speed sensor wire on one wheel.
00:38:45.199 --> 00:38:49.199
Um now I didn't know what was wrong at the time.
00:38:49.440 --> 00:38:58.559
What I do know is as I was driving back, ding, ding, ding, ding, like 17 lights on the dash came up, you know, including the check engine light.
00:38:58.639 --> 00:38:58.880
Okay.
00:38:59.440 --> 00:39:05.599
And it's like, you know, some some warning message like system malfunction on the dash.
00:39:05.840 --> 00:39:07.199
I'm like, fuck, okay.
00:39:07.360 --> 00:39:10.000
Like I'll just drive it back to the back to the house.
00:39:10.480 --> 00:39:12.400
I'm still on this dirt road coming out.
00:39:13.679 --> 00:39:14.800
Suspension lowering.
00:39:15.039 --> 00:39:16.079
I'm like, why?
00:39:16.320 --> 00:39:20.159
What does that have to do with this engine fault or whatever's going on?
00:39:20.559 --> 00:39:27.199
And it's just like traction control off long, and just like you wanted a time.
00:39:27.440 --> 00:39:35.039
And I'm like, oh god, I said I really and this was at night, so I didn't know what, you know, I'm like, God, I must have fucked this thing up.
00:39:35.280 --> 00:39:44.320
And so I just I I just got it, not back at the house, I just got it off the off the acreage, just onto the dirt road, and I just left it there overnight.
00:39:44.400 --> 00:39:46.480
I'm like, I'll pull it back tomorrow.
00:39:46.719 --> 00:39:54.239
And so I did, I towed it, uh, flat towed it back, and uh I did the coat, like put the computer on it and shit.
00:39:54.480 --> 00:40:00.320
So for this speed sensor wire, which um pretty sure it probably has four.
00:40:00.559 --> 00:40:05.599
I mean, it has to have four for one of them to have the wire severed.
00:40:05.760 --> 00:40:16.159
There were 27 faults, one of which was the passenger lower blower motor uh vent door malfunction.
00:40:17.440 --> 00:40:20.559
And I'm like, oh god, I love you so much, LR3.
00:40:21.840 --> 00:40:29.440
Please tell me that you replaced this the the speeds wheel speed sensor, and then that code also went away for the blower motor.
00:40:29.760 --> 00:40:30.400
I did.
00:40:30.559 --> 00:40:34.079
No, well, I did not replace the sensor, I just spliced the wire ball together.
00:40:34.400 --> 00:40:35.360
Spliced the wire ball together.
00:40:35.760 --> 00:40:36.079
Nice.
00:40:36.239 --> 00:40:38.880
And yes, the code for the vent door went away.
00:40:39.199 --> 00:40:42.559
That that's what makes that truck so fucking awesome.
00:40:42.880 --> 00:40:43.519
I know.
00:40:45.039 --> 00:40:45.760
Oh my gosh.
00:40:45.920 --> 00:40:49.440
Okay, so we've covered we've covered the burb, we've covered the LR3.
00:40:49.679 --> 00:40:56.960
You touched on this one, but I something tells me like your heart really is with this last one, which is the Sport 10.
00:40:58.559 --> 00:41:04.079
Um, I have a I you know, I I have a lot of heart for all my vehicles.
00:41:04.239 --> 00:41:07.039
Um because we've been through some stuff.
00:41:08.559 --> 00:41:11.119
But uh man, the sport 10.
00:41:11.280 --> 00:41:12.480
What a machine.
00:41:12.639 --> 00:41:19.679
Uh machine it is 1996 Chevrolet S10.
00:41:20.239 --> 00:41:23.679
It's got like, I don't know, 160,000.
00:41:23.920 --> 00:41:33.039
Not a whole lot of miles on it, but it was a uh so I got it like probably two years ago, maybe something that's 96.
00:41:33.599 --> 00:41:35.599
Yeah, so probably spent like what 28 years.
00:41:35.920 --> 00:41:44.079
It was uh it was a a runaround, just a runaround rig at a like a summer camp.
00:41:44.320 --> 00:41:44.800
Summer camp.
00:41:44.880 --> 00:41:48.559
Yes, yeah, summer camp, for like almost 30 years.
00:41:48.719 --> 00:41:50.159
And oh my god.
00:41:51.119 --> 00:41:51.760
Wow.
00:41:52.079 --> 00:41:54.800
Uh it'd probably be shorter.
00:41:55.039 --> 00:41:57.519
You want to talk about opulence.
00:41:57.920 --> 00:41:59.840
Uh yeah, opulence, yeah.
00:42:00.000 --> 00:42:05.280
I was gonna say it'd probably be a shorter list if you like just talked about the things it still has.
00:42:05.519 --> 00:42:11.280
Um yeah, because for example, door panels on the inside, no, uh seat.
00:42:11.519 --> 00:42:12.000
Don't need them.
00:42:12.239 --> 00:42:12.559
Kinda.
00:42:12.960 --> 00:42:17.119
Um it's gone, radio's gone, vent.
00:42:17.280 --> 00:42:20.239
It still has the vent holes where the vents would be.
00:42:20.480 --> 00:42:23.920
Um but no uh no no vent vent grills.
00:42:24.159 --> 00:42:27.679
No, no grills, as far as I can see, no fan or anything.
00:42:27.920 --> 00:42:32.159
Um it's it does have two.
00:42:33.360 --> 00:42:39.119
Well, it had two functioning headlights, one of which is uh uh and it's more of an up light.
00:42:39.280 --> 00:42:42.719
Um sort of points at the sky more so than ahead.
00:42:43.280 --> 00:42:43.760
Spotlight.
00:42:44.000 --> 00:42:44.639
Yeah.
00:42:46.480 --> 00:42:51.519
You roll it out anytime there's a big event just to you know show everybody, hey, this is where the event's taking place.
00:42:51.840 --> 00:42:52.239
Yeah.
00:42:52.480 --> 00:42:53.039
Uh-huh.
00:42:53.519 --> 00:43:04.239
Um literally, if like if you just had like if you if you got what like a used car inspection, you know, sheet or whatever, like just a generic one, whatever.
00:43:04.559 --> 00:43:08.559
Every item on there, you could you could check it's defective on this thing.
00:43:08.800 --> 00:43:14.960
Um however, it runs like a fucking champ.
00:43:15.760 --> 00:43:19.039
Every time you start what and it sounds like that.
00:43:19.840 --> 00:43:24.960
I don't know why it sounds like uh fucking vacuum on steroids, but it does.
00:43:25.199 --> 00:43:32.320
Um fucking and it just goes and goes and goes, and it's gutless as all fuck.
00:43:32.480 --> 00:43:35.519
I mean it's yeah, I was gonna say zero to sixty, never.
00:43:35.760 --> 00:43:37.519
Yes, yeah, zero to sixty.
00:43:37.679 --> 00:43:39.360
That's just ends in a question mark.
00:43:39.519 --> 00:43:41.280
Um yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:43:41.360 --> 00:43:48.639
It doesn't it's pretty gutless, but man, like it it's you know, so small.
00:43:48.800 --> 00:43:50.639
These compact trucks from back then.
00:43:50.880 --> 00:43:57.920
Oh my god, the difference between like you know, if they have S10s now, you know, probably or a Tacoma's a good example.
00:43:58.239 --> 00:43:59.280
Jesus Christ.
00:44:00.159 --> 00:44:07.599
The a ninety six S ten is closer in dimensions to my side by side than it would be to a modern compact pickup.
00:44:08.320 --> 00:44:12.159
It's like a Ford it's like a Honda Accord with a bed, basically.
00:44:12.480 --> 00:44:13.360
Yeah, pretty much.
00:44:13.599 --> 00:44:19.440
Um which makes it really useful out here because it can get in and out and up and down all the trails and stuff.
00:44:19.760 --> 00:44:25.679
Um and uh especially on its 14 ply trailer tires.
00:44:25.920 --> 00:44:30.960
Yeah, I was gonna say it's got uh uh four tires on it.
00:44:31.039 --> 00:44:32.320
Uh they're very old.
00:44:32.480 --> 00:44:38.639
I think old enough not to have date stamps, but the stamp they do have is the stamp that says for trailer service only.
00:44:40.880 --> 00:44:46.960
I mean, in its defense, it wouldn't ever be able to obtain it hit highway speeds anyway where that would matter.
00:44:47.039 --> 00:44:48.000
So it's perfect.
00:44:48.079 --> 00:44:48.559
It's perfect.
00:44:48.800 --> 00:44:49.039
Yeah.
00:44:49.199 --> 00:44:50.159
You know what I figured out.
00:44:50.320 --> 00:44:51.280
No, never mind.
00:44:51.519 --> 00:44:52.800
I got something else.
00:44:53.119 --> 00:44:59.920
Um but I was gonna say, like, it's uh it it's it's one of those and I got it for free.
00:45:00.079 --> 00:45:00.719
That's another thing.
00:45:00.800 --> 00:45:14.480
I'll tell that whole story someday, but like I when I bought the F-150, um I got a talk the guy down to a really good deal on the F-150 and got him to throw in the Sport 10 and deliver them both for free.
00:45:14.960 --> 00:45:16.239
And so it was fantastic.
00:45:16.960 --> 00:45:18.159
Fantastic yeah, it's amazing.
00:45:18.400 --> 00:45:25.039
Yeah, and you found uh a pr a pretty interesting utilization of the Sport 10 uh one time on the other.
00:45:25.199 --> 00:45:27.360
I was gonna I was I was gonna jump into that.
00:45:27.440 --> 00:45:36.000
I mean, so yes, it is a very it is a very uh run hard and hung up wet kind of truck, right?
00:45:36.079 --> 00:45:40.320
This thing is beat to shit, but it runs like a top, it always starts.
00:45:40.480 --> 00:45:43.039
Um and as fun as it can be to drive.
00:45:43.119 --> 00:45:44.800
For whatever reason, it is just so fun.
00:45:44.880 --> 00:45:47.519
It makes you feel like you're a kid driving your dad's truck off-road.
00:45:47.920 --> 00:45:52.239
I'll tell you one reason that's fun to drive is suspension.
00:45:52.880 --> 00:45:54.559
It's only just sort of a concept.
00:45:54.800 --> 00:45:56.239
Because bouncy.
00:45:59.039 --> 00:46:02.639
The yeah, the the uh shocks are made out of pillows.
00:46:02.800 --> 00:46:05.840
So yeah, it's very it's very boggy and bouncy.
00:46:06.320 --> 00:46:13.760
But um, yeah, so it's very awesome for you using it's like we found for uh hauling firewood.
00:46:14.000 --> 00:46:32.079
So um that's a great use, but our favorite use of that sport tin is when we're falling trees, you have when you cut down the log down, or okay, you cut off all the shrubbery and and uh limbs from the main the main uh log of the tree.
00:46:32.159 --> 00:46:34.800
The the what what what am I trying to think of?
00:46:35.599 --> 00:46:36.559
Trunk, thank you.
00:46:36.880 --> 00:46:41.920
The trunk of the tree, um, so that way you can start making cutting logs.
00:46:42.320 --> 00:46:58.400
We found that it was gonna be very time consuming to try to break down all the small branches and offshoots from all the limbs, and uh came up with a really the brilliant idea of just using the Sport 10 to just run them over and mash them into oblivion to where it was a more manageable pile.
00:46:58.559 --> 00:46:59.679
And it worked great.
00:47:00.000 --> 00:47:02.639
Yeah, and it was awesome.
00:47:03.679 --> 00:47:09.440
That was the most fun I've ever had, like breaking down trees and and limbs.
00:47:09.599 --> 00:47:10.480
Yeah, awesome.
00:47:10.880 --> 00:47:11.360
Yeah.
00:47:11.519 --> 00:47:16.639
Uh I remember the smile on your face after you did that first run.
00:47:16.880 --> 00:47:26.559
It's like this is like the kind of thing that you know you want to do, like a kid in you wants to do, but like you never have the chance to just take a you know, a full vehicle.
00:47:26.960 --> 00:47:28.400
Just like do something like that.
00:47:28.800 --> 00:47:30.800
It's just fun, but it really is.
00:47:31.119 --> 00:47:39.280
I think the first run you made though, like, or maybe the second one, I don't know, but like you made another run, and you're like, oh one of the branches came through the floorboard.
00:47:44.880 --> 00:47:47.039
Yeah, that that it is a fun truck.
00:47:47.199 --> 00:47:51.679
It is super cool, but you know, it it is a turd.
00:47:51.840 --> 00:47:54.639
It's a it's a major turd, but it's a it's our turd.
00:47:54.880 --> 00:47:55.760
That's right.
00:47:56.960 --> 00:47:58.000
That's awesome.
00:47:58.239 --> 00:48:03.920
Um well I think that just about takes us to our time limit here.
00:48:04.239 --> 00:48:05.679
Yeah, definitely.
00:48:05.920 --> 00:48:14.559
But um hey man, it was awesome being able to talk about all the uh the the trucks and their different personalities on the ranch.
00:48:14.880 --> 00:48:17.679
And uh we didn't get to all of them yet.
00:48:18.000 --> 00:48:20.559
Um which is one fun thing.
00:48:21.119 --> 00:48:25.440
But then I also I just I I just want to say that like Go ahead.
00:48:25.519 --> 00:48:33.280
I feel like I feel like somebody needed to man this podcast up a little bit after the Pokemon thing.
00:48:34.639 --> 00:48:41.920
Um, you know, dude, like a lot of people a lot of real men's men uh collect Pokemon.
00:48:42.000 --> 00:48:44.239
So it takes a real man to collect Pokemon.
00:48:44.320 --> 00:48:44.960
How about that?
00:48:45.199 --> 00:48:47.199
I'm really secure in my masculinity.
00:48:47.360 --> 00:48:47.760
I don't know.
00:48:50.000 --> 00:48:50.719
I like that.
00:48:50.800 --> 00:48:53.599
I'm should you get that on a shirt?
00:48:53.840 --> 00:48:54.000
Yeah.
00:48:55.920 --> 00:48:56.239
Look.
00:48:56.800 --> 00:48:58.880
Look, it takes a real man.
00:48:59.360 --> 00:49:00.079
Hear me out.
00:49:00.320 --> 00:49:00.880
Hear me out.
00:49:01.199 --> 00:49:05.760
I you know what's actually hilarious though, is I'm wearing a shirt right now that says Pokydad.
00:49:06.079 --> 00:49:07.599
So Oh my god.
00:49:08.559 --> 00:49:09.119
So manly.
00:49:09.360 --> 00:49:12.400
I hope it has a picture of like the Pokemon stuff on it.
00:49:12.800 --> 00:49:13.199
It does.
00:49:13.280 --> 00:49:32.480
It's so on the it's it was a Father's Day gift, and on the back it says best dad ever, or something like that, and it's um the main the main Pokemon supporter or trainer, and it's on one side is Pikachu and the other is Mewtwo, and under the under them she had it uh Kai and Robbie's names put.
00:49:33.360 --> 00:49:34.079
It's actually pretty cute.
00:49:35.119 --> 00:49:36.000
That sounds really cute.
00:49:36.159 --> 00:49:39.360
Um kind of lost me at Poopadoo and Chikachu or whatever.
00:49:39.519 --> 00:49:41.840
Like you you know what Pikachu is.
00:49:41.920 --> 00:49:42.400
Don't even try.
00:49:42.639 --> 00:49:43.199
No, I don't.
00:49:43.360 --> 00:49:44.239
Is that another Pokemon?
00:49:45.519 --> 00:49:49.440
Pikachu is like the the Mickey Mouse of Disney, okay?
00:49:49.679 --> 00:49:51.519
So Okay.
00:49:52.239 --> 00:49:52.880
I didn't know that.
00:49:53.119 --> 00:49:54.800
I thought Pikachu was a different video game.
00:49:54.960 --> 00:49:57.760
I didn't the yellow like cat rat looking thing.
00:49:58.800 --> 00:49:59.599
All the Pokemons?
00:50:00.559 --> 00:50:01.599
No, that's Pikachu.
00:50:01.920 --> 00:50:03.440
I thought that's what a Pokemon was.
00:50:03.519 --> 00:50:04.880
Like that's a Pokemon species of the case.
00:50:05.119 --> 00:50:06.320
Pikachu is a Pokemon.
00:50:06.559 --> 00:50:08.320
Yeah, and they're all those little yellow things, right?
00:50:08.719 --> 00:50:09.280
No, no, no.
00:50:09.679 --> 00:50:11.599
Dude, like Mewtwo's a Pokemon.
00:50:12.400 --> 00:50:14.639
The little the the purple cat looking thing.
00:50:14.880 --> 00:50:16.800
That's God's show.
00:50:17.119 --> 00:50:17.760
You know what, dude?
00:50:17.840 --> 00:50:23.440
You're not you're not helping me, you're not helping me look any better right now by making me explain this.
00:50:23.760 --> 00:50:26.320
I'm just you can picture the little fishing reel.
00:50:27.760 --> 00:50:28.559
That's what I'm doing right now.
00:50:28.719 --> 00:50:30.880
I know, I'm just kidding, every fucking time.
00:50:35.199 --> 00:50:36.079
You're a dick.
00:50:36.320 --> 00:50:43.519
Anyway, that's uh that's another great episode of uh well, that's another great swing shift.
00:50:43.599 --> 00:50:44.400
How about that?
00:50:44.719 --> 00:50:47.599
Um, and we'll catch y'all on the next one.
00:50:58.880 --> 00:51:03.440
One brother talks, the other jumps in.
00:51:04.880 --> 00:51:08.800
Half a thaw, and we're off again.
00:51:10.159 --> 00:51:11.920
Big weird facts.
00:51:12.960 --> 00:51:20.000
Small town goes, I live corner, nobody knows.
00:51:20.480 --> 00:51:25.599
You bring the question, you bring the burn, we take a left and never return.
00:51:26.079 --> 00:51:28.639
One more minute and twelve more turns.
00:51:28.719 --> 00:51:31.360
That's how it goes when the whole world world.
00:51:36.480 --> 00:51:39.519
It's funny, stand down to two, brothers to do.
00:51:39.920 --> 00:51:42.079
Time to talk about it.
00:51:49.679 --> 00:51:53.679
Two brothers, two times all the time.
00:52:00.800 --> 00:52:01.440
Wait, what?
00:52:01.599 --> 00:52:02.719
It says hold up.
00:52:02.800 --> 00:52:10.400
Now with three storage deep in a stole the cup, it brings a box, it brings a spin, which is the fastest RIDM.
00:52:10.960 --> 00:52:13.360
One small food turns into a flood.
00:52:13.840 --> 00:52:14.320
That's the three.
00:52:15.119 --> 00:52:16.320
That's the good stuff.
00:52:19.360 --> 00:52:21.039
Time starting to do it.
