ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In the second, Second Glass Podcast, Tyler Balliet takes a trip to the Dr. Loosen Estates in the steep slopes of Germany’s Mosel Valley. Tyler visits with the good doctor himself, Ernie Loosen, and gets recruited to take part in the Riesling revolution! The Dr. Loosen Estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. They are known for stunningly intense Riesling, made with vines around 60 years old. Ernest Loosen assumed ownership in 1988 and drastically reduced crop sizes, stopped chemical fertilization and continued only using moderate organic fertilizers and soil amendments. At harvest, only fully matured fruit is selected, and the wine is developed to it’s full potential with a minimum of technological meddling.
