ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In this episode of Scoreboard, Chris Titley is joined by Corey Rocchiccioli, Western Australian cricketer and off-spinner, for a thoughtful conversation about cricket, mindset, patience and the work that sits behind long-term performance.
Corey reflects on a big start to 2026, with success on the field, getting married, moving into a renovated house and navigating the usual challenges of selection, form and the rhythm of professional cricket. He speaks honestly about how consuming the game can be, from checking county scores in the morning to preparing his body and mind through the off-season.
The conversation goes deep into the mental side of cricket. Corey explains how he uses visualisation, review, rating systems and scenario-based preparation to get himself ready for first-class cricket. He also unpacks the idea of blue brain and red brain, and how understanding stress, clarity and arousal has helped him manage pressure in long spells and tight moments.
Corey also shares the less glamorous side of the journey, from missing junior selections to working his way through grade cricket, changing clubs, finding the right coaching and building belief through what he calls naive optimism. He talks about wanting to play first grade before the dream grew into Western Australia and beyond, and why he still feels like he is only scratching the surface of the cricketer he can become.
There is plenty for cricket lovers too, from the changing shape of the game and the rise of franchise cricket to the craft of bowling to players like Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. Corey gives a clear sense of the puzzle of spin bowling, the value of small pieces of information, and the joy of trying to stay one step ahead of good batters.
