ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Ruck’s Place Podcast | Friday Drop: Expectation Rules!
What you expect influences the direction you take, the decisions you make, and the actions you pursue. But setting an expectation is only the beginning. You must also be willing to move in the direction of the outcome you desire. In this Friday Drop episode of Rucker Place Podcast, we explore the power of setting expectations for ourselves and our lives, even when the resources, answers, or opportunities we need aren't immediately visible. Through a personal story about navigating the financial uncertainty of sending our daughter to college and a relatable example of a woman driving in the wrong direction to get her nails done, we uncover an important truth: you cannot expect to reach your desired destination if you're moving in the opposite direction.
When my wife and I faced uncertainty about how we would pay for our daughter's college education, we had a choice. We could build a wall of worry, fear, and doubt around our circumstances, or we could change our mindset, set a new expectation, seek the right resources, and take action. We chose the latter—and our daughter went to college, graduated, traveled the world, and is now working in the field she studied, doing the job of her dreams.
This episode is a reminder that your circumstances don't have to dictate your expectations. Instead of allowing uncertainty to determine what's possible, set your expectation, establish your direction, build the blocks toward your goal, and take the steps necessary to move closer to the outcome you desire. Because expectation rules—but your actions must align with what you expect.
