ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Written by Steve Goodman and John Prine, the song "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" was a hit for David Allan Coe, the third singe release of Coe's career and his first Top Ten hit, peaking at No. 8 on the country charts. Doug Supernaw released a cover version of the song in 1994, on which he was joined by Waylon Jennings, Charley Pride, and Merle Haggard, all of whom are mentioned in the song's second verse, as well as a guest vocal by Coe himself.
