00:00:09.439 --> 00:00:10.800
Hello, I'm Katie.
00:00:11.039 --> 00:00:11.839
And I'm Maria.
00:00:12.080 --> 00:00:16.960
And welcome to the Publishing Pals Podcast, a podcast where two Pals talk about publishing.
00:00:17.120 --> 00:00:22.879
For nearly a decade, we have tried, failed, and sometimes succeeded at being traditionally published.
00:00:23.039 --> 00:00:30.719
Come along with us as we share everything we've learned in this oddly gatekeep, confusing, but incredibly fun and rewarding industry.
00:00:31.120 --> 00:00:31.359
Yes.
00:00:31.519 --> 00:00:34.560
And today we are joined by the amazing Katie Dwyer.
00:00:34.719 --> 00:00:35.840
Thank you for being here, Katie.
00:00:36.079 --> 00:00:37.679
I'm so excited to have you back.
00:00:38.159 --> 00:00:39.920
Oh, thank you so much for having me.
00:00:40.000 --> 00:00:41.039
I'm really happy to be here.
00:00:41.359 --> 00:00:41.840
Yes.
00:00:42.000 --> 00:00:48.960
So as we said in our last episode, Suzanne is taking a break over the summer to Wrangle Kidddo's work on her writing.
00:00:49.200 --> 00:00:54.399
And she'll be back, I think, early to mid-uh autumn.
00:00:54.560 --> 00:01:03.119
And until then, we're doing a special series of artist-themed episodes with picture book creator Katie Dwyer.
00:01:03.520 --> 00:01:06.159
Katie, do you want to tell us a little bit about yourself since we interviewed you?
00:01:06.400 --> 00:01:08.480
Because you have some exciting news.
00:01:09.120 --> 00:01:10.079
Yes, I do.
00:01:10.319 --> 00:01:13.439
So I'm Katie Dwyer, like Maria said.
00:01:13.680 --> 00:01:16.640
And I'm a picture book author illustrator.
00:01:16.799 --> 00:01:22.000
I started as an illustrator and then jumped into the crazy world of writing, also.
00:01:22.799 --> 00:01:28.239
But I have two books coming out in 2027 as an author illustrator.
00:01:28.319 --> 00:01:30.079
They will be my debut books.
00:01:30.239 --> 00:01:36.000
I have one coming out in spring called Pay Attention Oliver, and then another one coming out in fall called Bear's Friend.
00:01:36.719 --> 00:01:41.599
And I'm also a mom of three boys that keep me incredibly busy.
00:01:41.760 --> 00:01:46.799
I have two dogs, a beta fish, a male beta fish, and a boy lizard.
00:01:46.879 --> 00:01:54.159
So I am the only female in a house filled with males, which I think does influence my writing and illustrating a little bit.
00:01:54.319 --> 00:01:56.799
But yeah, that's kind of just a little bit about me.
00:01:57.120 --> 00:01:59.760
Well, I'm excited to have you here for some girl talk.
00:01:59.840 --> 00:02:02.719
Um, like you get away from your boys for a little bit.
00:02:03.280 --> 00:02:14.560
Um I we were thinking that for these episodes, because we're both artists, that we could make them a little bit more art focused for people who are trying to jump into the illustrator side of things.
00:02:14.639 --> 00:02:21.120
Since oftentimes we'll kind of gloss over or mention some artist things, but largely focus on the writing side and the industry side.
00:02:21.280 --> 00:02:34.319
So we're going to be talking today about Procreate brushes, which for anyone just jumping into Procreate, the brush selection can be a little intimidating, knowing how to make your own brushes, knowing how to kind of edit stuff, where to download packs.
00:02:34.479 --> 00:02:36.800
If you want to download packs, it can be a lot.
00:02:37.039 --> 00:02:42.879
So I thought we'd dive into maybe like what some of our favorites are for people who are new to Procreate and want recommendations.
00:02:43.039 --> 00:02:55.599
We could go into what we use them for, um, some that we might recommend that we've found elsewhere, and just kind of general thoughts on Procreate brush usage and if there's anything in particular we recommend to people.
00:02:55.840 --> 00:02:56.719
Yeah, that sounds great.
00:02:56.879 --> 00:02:57.919
I love Procreate.
00:02:58.000 --> 00:03:00.800
Um it's kind of how I learned to draw a little bit.
00:03:00.960 --> 00:03:05.599
Um I started drawing on paper, just like florals and hand lettering and things like that.
00:03:05.680 --> 00:03:10.719
And then I got an iPad and started drawing in Procreate, and that's really where I started learning illustration.
00:03:10.879 --> 00:03:15.280
Um, since then I've switched to traditional, but I still use Procreate.
00:03:15.360 --> 00:03:22.159
I scan all my artwork into my computer, transfer it to Procreate, and then I do any kind of digital edits on there.
00:03:22.560 --> 00:03:25.680
So I'm obsessed with Procreate.
00:03:25.759 --> 00:03:26.240
I love it.
00:03:26.400 --> 00:03:29.120
Um, so I'm really excited to be talking about our favorite brushes.
00:03:29.439 --> 00:03:30.400
Yes, same.
00:03:30.639 --> 00:03:32.080
I learned painting.
00:03:32.159 --> 00:03:44.879
I have a BFA in illustration from Art Center, but I was kind of on the tail end of like the beginning of the digital age where like everyone was doing digital stuff, but all the old white dudes who like run the universities hadn't caught on yet.
00:03:44.960 --> 00:03:47.759
And so they hadn't integrated digital classes into the curriculum.
00:03:47.919 --> 00:03:50.639
So almost all of my work going through school was traditional.
00:03:50.719 --> 00:03:58.560
And I think we had one intro to uh Photoshop and InDesign class where they talked about how to use those tools, but not necessarily how to paint in them.
00:03:58.639 --> 00:04:07.759
I think we had like two assignments where we painted in them, and then I took one elective, which was life drawing digitally in Photoshop with like a Wacom.
00:04:08.319 --> 00:04:19.839
And I think just because like I, first of all, I like I felt like I needed to become a better artist and understand light and painting more to like pick it up more easily, but also like Photoshop can be intimidating.
00:04:20.000 --> 00:04:23.600
And I ended up getting a digital painting through Procreate instead.
00:04:23.839 --> 00:04:26.879
And I I was kind of at a point where I was trying to transition.
00:04:27.040 --> 00:04:32.000
And then I went to some SCBWI talks, and they're like, oh yeah, like artists can paint whatever program you want.
00:04:32.160 --> 00:04:43.839
And I think that's something like it might be good to talk about because I know a lot of professional artists and and some art directors who have mentioned this too, who work entirely in Procreate and the art director will work with you.
00:04:43.920 --> 00:04:55.920
It used to be Photoshop was the only industry standard painting tool, but now I think Procreate and Clip Studio Paint, and it seems there are a few others that are emerging, are are becoming just as prevalent in the professional industry.
00:04:56.240 --> 00:04:56.560
Right.
00:04:56.800 --> 00:05:04.800
So when I first started drawing um in Procreate, I just did it because it's a$10 app you pay once.
00:05:04.959 --> 00:05:06.720
And I had an iPad.
00:05:06.879 --> 00:05:08.319
Um, so it was really easy for me.
00:05:08.399 --> 00:05:10.879
I didn't have like a really great computer at the time.
00:05:11.120 --> 00:05:13.839
I didn't have another tablet to draw on.
00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:17.920
Um, and I had to see a lot of people draw on Instagram through Procreate.
00:05:18.000 --> 00:05:19.040
So I just started doing that.
00:05:19.120 --> 00:05:22.480
But then I kept hearing like these things like, it has to be in Photoshop.
00:05:22.560 --> 00:05:25.839
If you're drawing digitally in the industry, it needs to be Photoshop.
00:05:26.000 --> 00:05:30.160
But I discovered an artist um named Lucy Fleming, who I love.
00:05:30.399 --> 00:05:32.800
Um, and she did everything in Procreate.
00:05:32.879 --> 00:05:38.079
So I actually sent her a message on Instagram and was like, hey, do you like you make your books all in Procreate?
00:05:38.160 --> 00:05:40.720
And she kind of explained her process to me.
00:05:40.800 --> 00:05:42.319
And she does use Photoshop a little bit.
00:05:42.480 --> 00:05:44.160
I also use Photoshop a little bit.
00:05:44.560 --> 00:05:48.720
Um, but there are artists who solely rely on Procreate.
00:05:48.800 --> 00:05:56.560
And I think it's becoming more and more common as just different tools are available and Procreate keeps getting better and better.
00:05:56.720 --> 00:06:03.199
Um, I think that it's just more standard, and art directors and editors and designers are used to it now.
00:06:03.279 --> 00:06:07.279
And so they know how to like, there's more flexibility rather than just Photoshop.
00:06:08.879 --> 00:06:15.279
And a couple things that I would want to say to anyone who's like, oh, let me just use Procreate as opposed to Photoshop.
00:06:15.360 --> 00:06:16.800
Like this is much cheaper.
00:06:16.879 --> 00:06:18.160
It's a better option.
00:06:18.399 --> 00:06:33.120
A couple things you should keep in mind if you're going to use Procreate for professional work is that you kind of do have to buy the Apple Pencil as opposed to an off-brand one because the iPad only recognizes pressure sensitivity from the like brand name Apple Pencil.
00:06:33.279 --> 00:06:42.000
So you'll end up drawing with the brushes and you'll get that cool texture, but it'll just be a monoline and you won't be able to go from like thick to thin by changing pressure.
00:06:42.079 --> 00:06:46.319
And I think that is really important if you want to get the most out of the tool.
00:06:46.480 --> 00:06:54.399
Um, and then when you set up your files, if your file is eventually going to be printed, it needs to be a CMYK file, not an RGB file.
00:06:54.480 --> 00:06:56.160
And you set that up in color profile.
00:06:56.319 --> 00:07:03.600
And I think those are like the two major things to keep in mind if you're creating for the picture book industry or publishing industry in Procreate.
00:07:03.759 --> 00:07:04.160
I don't know.
00:07:04.240 --> 00:07:05.920
Is there anything else that you would add?
00:07:06.480 --> 00:07:13.360
Well, I would say also that the CMYK profile in Procreate isn't very accurate.
00:07:13.519 --> 00:07:17.360
Um, so they call it CMYK, and it's it's kind of it's a little bit newer.
00:07:17.680 --> 00:07:21.040
They didn't launch it with CMYK, it was just RGB.
00:07:21.199 --> 00:07:28.800
And it's only within the last few years that they allowed you to have a CMYK profile, but it's not the accurate true CMYK.
00:07:29.120 --> 00:07:31.439
Yeah, so when you print it, there's a disparity.
00:07:31.759 --> 00:07:33.279
It they yes, there is.
00:07:33.439 --> 00:07:42.480
So I always, this is how I do it, and there's I'm sure better ways, but I put my stuff in Photoshop and change the profile in there.
00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:53.839
So um, because then I know it's going to be accurate, and then I change it to um a PSD file, Photoshop file, because the our directors actually want it in a PSD file, but you can do that in Procreate.
00:07:53.920 --> 00:07:55.199
You can save it as PSD.
00:07:55.519 --> 00:08:00.800
You can export as PSD, but if you open it in Photoshop as a PSD, sometimes the colors change a little bit.
00:08:00.879 --> 00:08:05.519
And then you can use like adjustment layer stuff in Photoshop to get it to look like it did on your iPad a little bit.
00:08:05.759 --> 00:08:08.079
Yeah, and I do like the color changing.
00:08:08.240 --> 00:08:14.160
I don't know what that's called, like all the adjustments you can make in Photoshop as opposed to Procreate, because Photoshop has way more.
00:08:14.480 --> 00:08:17.839
But the reason that I like Procreate is because it's way more user-friendly.
00:08:17.920 --> 00:08:20.319
Photoshop is incredibly overwhelming to me.
00:08:20.959 --> 00:08:26.160
So there's just like too many buttons, too many options.
00:08:26.399 --> 00:08:35.120
It's like because it was originally created for photography, and you could do like all these different things in it, but it's not created specifically for drawing.
00:08:35.759 --> 00:08:43.120
So I just confused and I had already learned Procreate, and it just was like mind-boggling to me to have to learn Photoshop too.
00:08:43.279 --> 00:08:46.159
So I love like the basics of Photoshop.
00:08:46.960 --> 00:08:51.360
Yeah, and there are YouTube tutorials out there with like edits for artists.
00:08:51.440 --> 00:08:53.440
You don't need to learn all the Photoshop tools.
00:08:53.600 --> 00:09:01.679
Um and if you are a student in any capacity, or if you're a teacher in any capacity, it you can get a cheaper rate for Photoshop.
00:09:01.919 --> 00:09:04.879
Um, but overall, I mean, Procreate's like a one-time fee.
00:09:04.960 --> 00:09:06.960
It's so much more accessible to everybody.
00:09:07.120 --> 00:09:08.480
It's it's absurd.
00:09:08.960 --> 00:09:09.919
Oh my gosh, I know.
00:09:10.000 --> 00:09:12.879
I I pay for Photoshop monthly.
00:09:13.039 --> 00:09:19.360
I think it's like I just picked a basic and I think it's$20 a month for an app that I rarely use.
00:09:19.440 --> 00:09:25.039
It's only when I have to like upload my stuff like scan it in together in Photoshop.
00:09:25.200 --> 00:09:31.200
That's like all I yeah, the automate photo merge feature is like half the reason I have Photoshop.
00:09:31.360 --> 00:09:35.200
That and their spot healing and cloning and stuff like that is so much better.
00:09:35.360 --> 00:09:44.960
Where if I'm painting, I have two cats, one of them is 20 years old, she sheds constantly, and there's always cat hair in my watercolor palette somehow, no matter how careful I am.
00:09:45.120 --> 00:09:50.399
And the amount of times I've used Photoshop to like erase a single cat hair that somehow got onto my painting.
00:09:51.039 --> 00:09:51.840
Oh my gosh.
00:09:52.000 --> 00:09:52.639
I use that.
00:09:52.720 --> 00:09:55.519
I I use the clone tool and procreate actually.
00:09:55.600 --> 00:10:00.000
Um, but I think you want to Photoshop because it gotten better with the update, do you think?
00:10:01.440 --> 00:10:03.120
No, I think it's the same.
00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:06.399
But it's how I learned how to do it.
00:10:06.480 --> 00:10:07.919
So that's just what I use.
00:10:08.000 --> 00:10:09.440
But I have dog hair.
00:10:09.679 --> 00:10:12.559
I when I scan it, I'm always finding dog hair.
00:10:12.639 --> 00:10:19.039
Even if I like wipe the canvas, I'm still finding animal hair.
00:10:19.120 --> 00:10:23.039
And it doesn't matter how often you clean things or how careful you are.
00:10:24.480 --> 00:10:24.799
No.
00:10:25.120 --> 00:10:27.759
And my dogs don't even appear in my studio that much.
00:10:28.159 --> 00:10:29.759
I'm still finding all the time.
00:10:30.159 --> 00:10:31.600
Oh, oh, one other thing.
00:10:31.759 --> 00:10:36.799
Um, make your file at least 300 dpi, um, if not more.
00:10:36.960 --> 00:10:39.279
I I go 450 usually for mine.
00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:42.799
Um, and then make sure you're not using a really small file size.
00:10:42.960 --> 00:10:46.000
Like you want your files to be in inches, not in pixels.
00:10:46.240 --> 00:10:49.360
And it needs to have a high DPI, otherwise it's going to print blurry.
00:10:49.519 --> 00:10:54.799
That like default that uh canvas that's like screen size, I don't think it's print quality.
00:10:54.960 --> 00:10:58.080
Um, so deliberately make your page set up.
00:10:58.320 --> 00:11:00.639
But aside from that, yeah, Procreate is great.
00:11:00.720 --> 00:11:01.279
Go wild.
00:11:01.600 --> 00:11:05.519
So I so I do a lot of stuff digitally.
00:11:05.679 --> 00:11:15.679
Um, and and usually my process, especially if I'm doing graphic novel stuff, is I will have uh a rough sketch layer, a sketch layer, a line art layer, and then a color layer.
00:11:15.759 --> 00:11:18.799
So I thought maybe because could you do some stuff with line art.
00:11:18.879 --> 00:11:20.559
I know you have some pencil brushes you like.
00:11:20.639 --> 00:11:29.600
I thought maybe we could do like best brushes to sketch, best brushes for line art, best brushes for painting, and we could have like some some within those categories that we talk about.
00:11:30.000 --> 00:11:32.639
I don't know if there's a different way you'd want to go over it.
00:11:33.759 --> 00:11:49.360
Yeah, I use um, well, because I do have everything traditionally, for the most part, I do occasionally do things uh digitally, but I'm more familiar with like the brushes that make it look very traditional or like the brushes that I use for cloning because I do a lot of cloning.
00:11:49.759 --> 00:11:52.320
Um, and you can pick your brush what how you want to clone it.
00:11:52.639 --> 00:11:52.960
Oh, okay.
00:11:53.039 --> 00:11:54.000
So let's start with that.
00:11:54.159 --> 00:11:55.200
Because I don't I don't have those.
00:11:55.279 --> 00:11:57.120
What what are your favorite brushes for cloning?
00:11:57.360 --> 00:12:00.480
I use the the Vivi Burger pack.
00:12:02.159 --> 00:12:02.399
Okay.
00:12:03.039 --> 00:12:04.799
Hold on, I have to go back to my library.
00:12:05.759 --> 00:12:06.320
And just two now.
00:12:06.639 --> 00:12:10.320
We'll try any packs that we talk about, we'll try and link in the show notes if you're interested.
00:12:10.720 --> 00:12:13.360
But we can maybe describe a little bit about what they look like.
00:12:14.799 --> 00:12:17.679
So they're called Vivi brushes, V-I-V-I brush.
00:12:18.240 --> 00:12:22.480
And um, she has two packs, and I have both of them, and I'm obsessed with them.
00:12:22.720 --> 00:12:27.919
Um so the ones that I use for cloning a lot are her pan pastel grainy.
00:12:29.200 --> 00:12:38.480
Um I find that it just gets like a very if I'm working in watercolor, it it it it emulates the the paper and the paint.
00:12:38.559 --> 00:12:43.840
And if I use like color pencils or neo colors, it um it copies that really well.
00:12:44.159 --> 00:12:46.000
So I'll use her pan pastel brush.
00:12:46.080 --> 00:13:01.759
I also use her grainy pencil a lot, um, which I have I am like very weird and picky about my pencil brushes because there are so many already in Procreate, and I haven't found one that I love except for the 6B.
00:13:02.639 --> 00:13:04.159
I love the 6B brush.
00:13:04.240 --> 00:13:05.360
I use it all the time.
00:13:05.919 --> 00:13:10.879
I would say the 6B and the Vivi pencil grainy are the two that I use constantly.
00:13:11.200 --> 00:13:18.399
I like 6B but all the pencil brunches, brushes I'm not a huge fan of, even though you would think pencil, they're kind of all the same.
00:13:18.799 --> 00:13:21.840
I don't I don't like I like sketching with my 6B.
00:13:22.240 --> 00:13:26.879
I just love the way that it feels when it like goes down on the screen.
00:13:27.279 --> 00:13:30.879
And I feel like I just can't get the same look with any of the other brushes.
00:13:31.440 --> 00:13:32.559
I like Huntsman a lot.
00:13:32.639 --> 00:13:35.279
I think Huntsman does a pretty good job in the new pack.
00:13:35.840 --> 00:13:38.799
It's it's one of the limitation brushes.
00:13:40.639 --> 00:13:46.799
I think it does a good job of like pressure sensitivity and getting pretty dark, but having a really visible tooth to it.
00:13:47.840 --> 00:13:48.320
Yeah.
00:13:48.559 --> 00:13:51.759
I like the swanse brush also.
00:13:53.039 --> 00:13:54.960
Yeah, also in the pro pastadelli.
00:13:55.840 --> 00:13:58.960
Like or charcoaly, maybe it's got some really good grain.
00:13:59.759 --> 00:14:00.240
Yeah.
00:14:00.639 --> 00:14:04.080
I like I like some grain, but not too much.
00:14:04.240 --> 00:14:06.799
And I like it to have good pressure sensitivity.
00:14:08.639 --> 00:14:12.879
But sometimes the swanse even is like too grainy for me.
00:14:12.960 --> 00:14:14.639
I like the six B better.
00:14:16.000 --> 00:14:18.960
Yeah, and I think six B is from the old pack, right?
00:14:19.440 --> 00:14:19.840
Yeah.
00:14:20.000 --> 00:14:20.399
Yeah.
00:14:20.639 --> 00:14:21.279
Very original.
00:14:21.840 --> 00:14:22.159
Same.
00:14:22.320 --> 00:14:27.519
So, like my favorite sketching brush is Shale, which was from the original Procreate pack as well.
00:14:27.679 --> 00:14:34.720
So, for anyone who isn't immediately familiar with Procreate, they had the original Procreate brushes, and then it was last year, right?
00:14:34.879 --> 00:14:35.840
Or like late last year.
00:14:36.080 --> 00:14:37.039
Yeah, it was last year.
00:14:37.279 --> 00:14:44.559
Yeah, they released a whole new update for Procreate, and they'd never done a whole big update, and it came with a whole new set of default brushes.
00:14:44.639 --> 00:14:51.120
And when you installed it, it now under brushes, it gives you two different libraries, the original library and the new library.
00:14:51.200 --> 00:14:54.159
And the new library is like Chef's Kiss.
00:14:54.240 --> 00:14:56.720
Like I love so many of the brushes from it.
00:14:56.799 --> 00:15:03.759
And there were so many brushes that I downloaded that I like played around with um or that I'd made in the original one.
00:15:03.840 --> 00:15:08.480
And I feel like I prefer these new brushes largely to all of those.
00:15:08.639 --> 00:15:11.840
Um, but there are some that I definitely prefer as well.
00:15:12.000 --> 00:15:16.240
Um but I always go back to my classic library also.
00:15:16.320 --> 00:15:17.519
But who was the person?
00:15:17.759 --> 00:15:20.320
I always forget his name who made the new brushes.
00:15:20.639 --> 00:15:30.240
Oh gosh, something his I know his I'm thinking of his like black and red background graphic Instagram profile cartoon of himself.
00:15:30.559 --> 00:15:31.360
Kyle T.
00:15:31.440 --> 00:15:32.240
Webster.
00:15:32.480 --> 00:15:33.360
That's right.
00:15:33.600 --> 00:15:34.960
And Kyle T.
00:15:35.039 --> 00:15:38.399
Webster uh I think is is a badass.
00:15:38.559 --> 00:15:55.440
He so a few a couple years ago, there was that whole thing where Photoshop started introducing generative AI, and then they posted an AI generated image of an artist or of an artist's work and credited that artist.
00:15:55.679 --> 00:15:57.919
And then that artist hadn't made that piece.
00:15:58.000 --> 00:16:06.799
It was AI generated based off of work of his that had been saved to the cloud that Photoshop had scraped without his consent and that they hid in this giant user agreement.
00:16:06.960 --> 00:16:11.759
And he didn't realize they'd done it until people started congratulating him on the gig with Procreate.
00:16:11.840 --> 00:16:13.039
And he was like, What are you talking about?
00:16:13.200 --> 00:16:16.320
And he went and he saw what they'd done and then he posted about it.
00:16:16.480 --> 00:16:20.720
And the entire community was like, Why on earth are you shooting yourself in the foot?
00:16:20.879 --> 00:16:26.240
Like you're creating something that's going to get rid of the jobs of people who pay for your program.
00:16:26.320 --> 00:16:27.519
Like, this is insane.
00:16:27.759 --> 00:16:29.200
And so Kyle T.
00:16:29.279 --> 00:16:31.039
Webster was like, I agree with you.
00:16:31.200 --> 00:16:31.840
I stand with you.
00:16:31.919 --> 00:16:33.360
I'm gonna quit working for Photoshop.
00:16:33.440 --> 00:16:38.320
And he really publicly quit and then was immediately hired by Procreate to make all of their brushes.
00:16:38.480 --> 00:16:41.840
And he spent like several years doing it, and they all rock.
00:16:43.039 --> 00:16:47.120
I did not know that that is what spurred him to quit.
00:16:47.200 --> 00:16:49.519
Like I knew it had to do with AI.
00:16:49.679 --> 00:16:54.240
And I knew like Photoshop or Adobe was like playing with all of that.
00:16:54.320 --> 00:17:02.320
But I didn't realize that that is the scenario that happened, that they had like taken, scraped some specific artist's art.
00:17:02.480 --> 00:17:03.360
I did not know that.
00:17:03.600 --> 00:17:06.720
Yeah, and then they just posted and didn't tell the artist and didn't tell the screen.
00:17:07.599 --> 00:17:15.039
And they were so weird and creepy and secretive about like, oh, we're just gonna hide this in here that like anything you save to Photoshop now we can use for AI.
00:17:15.279 --> 00:17:16.960
And that's horrible.
00:17:17.119 --> 00:17:18.480
I knew that's why Kyle T.
00:17:18.640 --> 00:17:27.680
Webster quit and then he got hired on Procreate, and I've been so excited to get his brushes because he made the brushes in for Photoshop for and he worked for them for a really long time.
00:17:27.920 --> 00:17:33.359
Yeah, his brushes are great, and just in his stories, like previews of what he was making.
00:17:33.680 --> 00:17:37.359
Yes, I know, and I I would just think, oh my gosh, I'm so excited to see this brush.
00:17:37.599 --> 00:17:38.319
I really love it.
00:17:39.039 --> 00:17:39.440
Yeah.
00:17:39.759 --> 00:17:41.440
He's working on another set.
00:17:41.839 --> 00:17:46.000
Oh, I I'm curious as to like if it's gonna be every two years or something now.
00:17:46.160 --> 00:17:48.720
Procreate just drops a new library or something.
00:17:48.960 --> 00:17:53.680
I hope so, but then it makes me wonder if they're gonna get rid of the old sets.
00:17:54.559 --> 00:17:57.039
Or just like keep adding on new sets of brushes.
00:17:57.359 --> 00:17:58.960
I would keep adding on new sets.
00:17:59.039 --> 00:18:01.440
Like why destroy the old ones, right?
00:18:02.480 --> 00:18:02.960
Yeah.
00:18:03.440 --> 00:18:06.240
Especially if you get like addicted to them like me.
00:18:06.559 --> 00:18:09.519
Yeah, shale is my addiction brush.
00:18:09.599 --> 00:18:18.640
Shale, and I also brought over just like I I think it was like Spectra and the flat, just the basic flat brush, because I I use those a fair amount.
00:18:18.799 --> 00:18:22.319
But I think everything else in my favorites pack right now is from the new set.
00:18:22.559 --> 00:18:24.880
Oh, and the jagged brush, because I use that for hair.
00:18:25.200 --> 00:18:30.000
Where's the is the shale in the it's not a pencil section?
00:18:30.160 --> 00:18:35.119
It's in um shale is in the calligraphy section in the original library.
00:18:35.759 --> 00:18:36.559
Oh, okay.
00:18:36.799 --> 00:18:39.920
I used to do a lot of calligraphy um in Procreate.
00:18:40.079 --> 00:18:41.839
I I like doing calligraphy by hand.
00:18:41.920 --> 00:18:46.559
I like those Le Pen flex brushes, but I haven't done too much of it in Procreate.
00:18:46.640 --> 00:18:53.279
But I do think the more you up the streamline, the more you can make anything a calligraphy brush in there as long as it has a taper.
00:18:54.799 --> 00:18:55.359
Right.
00:18:55.920 --> 00:18:57.680
You've made a lot of brushes, right?
00:18:58.000 --> 00:18:59.440
I've made a fair amount of brushes.
00:18:59.519 --> 00:19:06.640
So I think once you get the hang of it, it's it's not too bad, especially since a lot of the brushes I do are like repeating stamp brushes.
00:19:06.799 --> 00:19:11.759
So for example, if I need a lot of foliage, I'll just draw a bunch of flowers once and then make a stamp brush.
00:19:11.920 --> 00:19:18.880
And uh a lot of it, like you you hit the plus next to you know the brushes and then do create new brush.
00:19:18.960 --> 00:19:25.839
And then under shape, under shape source, you just import whatever image you want as long as it's black and white.
00:19:25.920 --> 00:19:29.759
If it's gray or has any middle values, those are never going to be full opacity.
00:19:29.839 --> 00:19:34.319
So unless you want a brush that's never fully opaque, um, it has to be black and white.
00:19:34.480 --> 00:19:37.599
And then you have to invert it by tapping with two fingers.
00:19:37.920 --> 00:19:39.680
Um, and then that's your shape source.
00:19:39.759 --> 00:19:47.119
And then you just go to like stroke path to see how far apart you want the spacing, stabilization to see if you want to streamline.
00:19:47.359 --> 00:19:56.880
And if you're doing a repeating stamp brush that needs to stay in one line, like a fence post or something where you want them all perfectly straight, then you want to like up the streamline a lot.
00:19:56.960 --> 00:19:58.880
But if it's something organic, maybe you don't want that.
00:19:58.960 --> 00:20:00.880
Maybe you want to add like a jitter to it.
00:20:01.119 --> 00:20:02.960
And you just keep messing around with it.
00:20:03.119 --> 00:20:12.880
Under Apple Pencil, if you want the stamp brush not to be transparent, depending on how much pressure you put on it, if you want it to be opaque 100% of the time.
00:20:13.039 --> 00:20:16.240
Under Apple Pencil, you just turn the opacity to zero.
00:20:16.559 --> 00:20:20.480
And aside from that, I think you can just kind of mess around with everything else.
00:20:20.799 --> 00:20:30.079
One thing that I can't figure out in the new brush set is that when you go to about this brush, it used to be where it says untitled brush, you could just type in whatever name you wanted to name the brush.
00:20:30.240 --> 00:20:31.920
And now that's grayed out.
00:20:32.000 --> 00:20:36.240
And I can't figure out how to name brushes since the update.
00:20:36.400 --> 00:20:39.359
And I don't know why it's different now, but it's driving me nuts.
00:20:39.599 --> 00:20:39.839
I know.
00:20:39.920 --> 00:20:47.519
I'm looking at it, it's so because I just like made a brush but didn't, you know, do anything to it because I'm just trying to figure out how to name it.
00:20:47.599 --> 00:20:51.200
And I there's no spot about this brush looking at it.
00:20:52.400 --> 00:20:54.319
I know, and it should be where it says untitled brush.
00:20:54.480 --> 00:20:57.119
It used to be you could tap it and you could type in whatever you wanted.
00:20:57.279 --> 00:21:04.799
But now all the stamp brushes I've been making the last few months are like untitled brush one, untitled brush two, and I just have to rely on that.
00:21:06.960 --> 00:21:08.000
Oh, it's so annoying.
00:21:08.079 --> 00:21:09.839
I'm sure it's something I'm not doing right.
00:21:09.920 --> 00:21:11.039
It's probably not a glitch.
00:21:11.119 --> 00:21:12.720
I need to look it up at some point.
00:21:13.039 --> 00:21:18.400
So I guess moving on from pencil, what are your favorite inking brushes if you have inking brushes?
00:21:18.559 --> 00:21:20.319
Because I know our art dials are very different.
00:21:20.640 --> 00:21:22.240
I don't have favorite inking brushes.
00:21:22.400 --> 00:21:25.920
I did used to use the dry ink brush a lot when I worked only digitally.
00:21:26.240 --> 00:21:28.559
But I like it too.
00:21:29.680 --> 00:21:31.440
Yes, I really like it too.
00:21:31.519 --> 00:21:33.759
And it's uh pretty pressure sensitive.
00:21:33.839 --> 00:21:36.000
Um, so you can get a variation of your line.
00:21:36.079 --> 00:21:38.480
But other than that, I don't have any.
00:21:38.720 --> 00:21:41.839
So you tell me your favorite inking brushes.
00:21:42.079 --> 00:21:44.960
Because I know you were you you like graphic novels and things like that.
00:21:45.039 --> 00:21:45.920
So you ink a lot.
00:21:46.079 --> 00:21:46.480
Yes.
00:21:46.720 --> 00:21:47.680
I did a whole thing.
00:21:47.839 --> 00:21:53.599
I did a whole like, I'm very sporadic in my social media posts where like two or three times a year.
00:21:53.759 --> 00:21:59.680
I'll decide to give myself like an art challenge and I post to do account keep accountability and to keep myself on it and try and get part.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:01.279
Folio pieces out of it and stuff.
00:22:01.359 --> 00:22:10.319
And I did this thing called drawing every day in May last year because I wanted to figure out what my default inking brush was because I just couldn't find one that I really clicked with.
00:22:10.400 --> 00:22:12.480
And I did a different inking brush every time.
00:22:12.720 --> 00:22:15.839
And I still couldn't find one that I absolutely loved.
00:22:16.079 --> 00:22:20.079
And then the new set came out, and I immediately was like, oh my God, sheer water.
00:22:20.240 --> 00:22:21.519
Sheer water is the brush.
00:22:21.680 --> 00:22:22.559
I found it.
00:22:23.039 --> 00:22:24.480
My brush soulmate.
00:22:24.640 --> 00:22:27.680
And I use it for absolutely everything now.
00:22:27.839 --> 00:22:28.240
Yes.
00:22:28.480 --> 00:22:29.039
Sheerwater.
00:22:29.519 --> 00:22:35.519
I remember that because you spent so much time looking for just like your soulmate brush.
00:22:35.680 --> 00:22:36.000
I know.
00:22:36.160 --> 00:22:40.240
And then at the challenge, you were like, kind of, you're like, this one's okay.
00:22:40.400 --> 00:22:41.039
This one's okay.
00:22:41.119 --> 00:22:44.400
And then as soon as the new pack came out, it was like boom, you finish.
00:22:44.799 --> 00:22:48.480
I I needed to wait for the brush to find me all along.
00:22:49.759 --> 00:22:53.920
You just have to like go through a lot of it's just like dating, right?
00:22:54.160 --> 00:22:57.920
You're just like going a lot of dates with the brushes until you find the one.
00:22:58.640 --> 00:23:04.960
What I like about it is that first of all, I think any line brush that you're using needs to have pressure sensitivity.
00:23:05.039 --> 00:23:06.880
You don't want a monoline brush.
00:23:07.039 --> 00:23:14.559
So depending on how hard you press, you might need to adjust your pressure sensitivity so that there is variation in lines that it looks organic.
00:23:14.640 --> 00:23:22.000
Because if it looks too like, I don't know, monolinear, I feel like it takes a lot of the humanity from it personally.
00:23:22.160 --> 00:23:24.160
Um, but everyone has a different art style.
00:23:24.240 --> 00:23:29.359
And if you have a really flat graphic, you know, kind of art style, maybe that's not great advice for you specifically.
00:23:29.519 --> 00:23:31.440
Everyone has different ways of creating work.
00:23:31.680 --> 00:23:34.559
But I love the pressure sensitivity.
00:23:34.720 --> 00:23:38.799
I love that it has like a really thin taper, so you can get very small to big.
00:23:39.039 --> 00:23:43.119
It also has uh a little bit of a watercolor feel to it.
00:23:43.200 --> 00:23:51.279
But what I was getting with, because my favorite brushes that I'd used before then for inking were watercolor brushes, but I couldn't get them fully opaque.
00:23:51.440 --> 00:23:57.119
And I had to keep duplicating the line art over and over again and then erasing patches of it where I wanted it to be more or less opaque.
00:23:57.359 --> 00:24:00.640
Shear water does a great job of like it can be fully opaque.
00:24:00.880 --> 00:24:13.519
Um, and it has some nice texture on the edges, but because it's it's kind of imitates like an inky feeling, there's a little bit, it's not like a graphic toothy kind of texture.
00:24:13.599 --> 00:24:16.559
It feels like bubbly, like it fades a little bit at the edges.
00:24:16.799 --> 00:24:20.240
I don't know, there's just a quality that I find really personally appealing.
00:24:20.400 --> 00:24:27.599
Um, it feels like I'm using a I don't know, like a water brush or something with like ink in it.
00:24:27.839 --> 00:24:31.200
Um it's got some nice little bubbly things on it.
00:24:31.519 --> 00:24:33.759
But that's that's my favorite ink brush.
00:24:33.920 --> 00:24:40.640
And then I feel like for painting, that's gonna be the widest list because there's so many different effects and textures you can get.
00:24:40.799 --> 00:24:49.680
And I know Katie, you probably have a wider list for painting brushes than I do because I feel like you play a lot more with color than line.
00:24:50.720 --> 00:24:51.920
Yes, I do.
00:24:52.079 --> 00:24:57.440
Um, and then I will draw things to try and get them to look as uh traditional as possible.
00:24:58.160 --> 00:25:00.319
Um I play with the sheer water brush.
00:25:00.400 --> 00:25:01.680
I don't think I've ever really played with it.
00:25:01.839 --> 00:25:06.799
It's got a very like gouache kind of feel to it and look.
00:25:08.000 --> 00:25:11.920
Which I'm always trying to find like a good gouache brush.
00:25:12.160 --> 00:25:14.559
Um I like the ones in their new set.
00:25:15.920 --> 00:25:16.400
What's that?
00:25:16.640 --> 00:25:18.720
I like the ones in their new sets, the new gouaches.
00:25:19.599 --> 00:25:30.160
I do, I do also, and I think the classic set only has like one gouache set, and it's in like the original um classic set.
00:25:30.640 --> 00:25:38.880
Like I feel like the new set is like a lot of different kinds of paints, whereas the old set is like materials, vintage, elements, water.
00:25:39.039 --> 00:25:44.400
Like it's like trying to imitate like what you're trying to draw instead of how you're trying to draw it.
00:25:44.559 --> 00:25:47.119
And so that's one thing I loved about the new update.
00:25:48.319 --> 00:25:51.519
Yeah, I'm kind of obsessed with the beer water one now that I'm playing with it.
00:25:51.759 --> 00:25:53.200
I'm glad you like it too.
00:25:53.440 --> 00:25:57.039
So now I'm gonna have to use it because I do use the gouache brushes in there.
00:25:57.119 --> 00:26:02.480
I I like them better than the watercolor as well, even though I work mostly in watercolor.
00:26:02.720 --> 00:26:12.799
Um but I I don't like a lot of uh watercolor brushes that I found unless I'm doing like big washes of color in Procreate.
00:26:13.039 --> 00:26:18.000
But for like small brushes, I haven't found one that I really like, but I'm always looking for good gouache brushes.
00:26:18.079 --> 00:26:22.160
And sheer water, even though it's not in the gouache set, is very good.
00:26:22.400 --> 00:26:23.279
It's great.
00:26:23.519 --> 00:26:30.480
Yeah, I feel like the gouache is great for big textures, like night heron in the gouache set.
00:26:30.559 --> 00:26:35.759
I I've been using for like big texture overlays, but not for drawing.
00:26:36.640 --> 00:26:39.359
Yes, I use um night heron as well.
00:26:39.440 --> 00:26:49.759
I use heart ease and um penzance, and I don't know how to say it, loyety l-O Y-E-T-E-A.
00:26:50.160 --> 00:26:51.039
I don't know.
00:26:51.519 --> 00:26:52.400
O ye t.
00:26:52.640 --> 00:26:54.240
I don't know how to say it.
00:26:54.559 --> 00:26:54.960
Loy.
00:26:55.440 --> 00:26:57.519
But those are the ones loyety.
00:26:58.000 --> 00:27:01.759
Um, those are the ones that I use in the gouache set that I'm happy with.
00:27:01.920 --> 00:27:08.079
Um, I do wish that there was like a dry brush, gouache in this set.
00:27:08.960 --> 00:27:10.480
Like a more opaque one, maybe.
00:27:12.079 --> 00:27:12.960
Yes, a more opaque one.
00:27:14.880 --> 00:27:17.119
And I downloaded a pack.
00:27:17.680 --> 00:27:20.640
Um it was a max pack.
00:27:21.839 --> 00:27:23.440
Let me see if I can find it.
00:27:24.640 --> 00:27:28.160
Yeah, it's just the retro max pack brushes.
00:27:28.240 --> 00:27:29.920
So I paid for those.
00:27:30.160 --> 00:27:32.960
And there's a lot of gouache brushes in there.
00:27:33.119 --> 00:27:35.680
There's probably like maybe 40.
00:27:36.319 --> 00:27:46.559
Um, but it has so many different brushes that you can use that are just like like gouache flow rough is a great one to get like a good texture.
00:27:47.440 --> 00:27:57.039
I honestly when in doubt and you can't find one that's in the regular Procreate library, then you just gotta go find them outside of Procreate.
00:27:57.680 --> 00:28:07.839
For a while, I I wasn't crazy about anything watercolor in the original set, and I paid for the um Freya watercolor collection, and I've seen her gouache one too, um, that looked pretty good.
00:28:08.000 --> 00:28:13.200
But in the new set, honestly, I think their new watercolor set for Procreate is pretty solid.
00:28:13.359 --> 00:28:17.359
I I like penguin a lot from it, it has a lot of really great texture.
00:28:17.680 --> 00:28:22.400
Um, and then I I've also been using, I think is it abalone?
00:28:23.200 --> 00:28:25.759
Um, yes, I use that one too.
00:28:26.079 --> 00:28:26.799
And lovely.
00:28:26.960 --> 00:28:31.359
Lovely from the oil painting section is like my favorite painting brush right now.
00:28:31.839 --> 00:28:33.519
You talk about lovely all the time.
00:28:33.680 --> 00:28:36.799
I know it's lovely.
00:28:36.960 --> 00:28:42.960
It's uh I've been doing a doing like a middle grade mock cover for my portfolio right now.
00:28:43.039 --> 00:28:50.640
And I I think I use three or four other brushes for some small bits, but the most of it is just completely painted with the lovely brush.
00:28:50.960 --> 00:28:51.519
Yes.
00:28:51.759 --> 00:28:55.599
I remember you made a painting and you're like, it's almost completely lovely.
00:28:55.920 --> 00:28:56.559
It is.
00:28:57.279 --> 00:28:59.599
Yeah, it does look like a Maria brush.
00:29:00.000 --> 00:29:09.119
So, what are your like two to three staple painting brushes if someone took all your brushes away and you only had like a handful that you were still allowed to use?
00:29:09.519 --> 00:29:11.519
Ooh, okay, that's a good question.
00:29:11.839 --> 00:29:14.000
And I'm interested to hear your answer as well.
00:29:14.240 --> 00:29:15.680
But it's probably gonna be lovely.
00:29:16.240 --> 00:29:18.000
Lovely in sheer water is my answer.
00:29:18.319 --> 00:29:18.960
Okay, there you go.
00:29:19.039 --> 00:29:20.160
Yeah, you shale.
00:29:20.559 --> 00:29:24.160
Um mine would be the 6B for sure.
00:29:24.400 --> 00:29:27.680
Uh the Vivi brush, pan pastel.
00:29:28.720 --> 00:29:32.000
Um and honestly, that's probably it.
00:29:32.160 --> 00:29:36.640
Like if everyone took if someone took away all my brushes, those are the two that I would keep.
00:29:36.880 --> 00:29:37.359
Mm-hmm.
00:29:37.519 --> 00:29:38.960
Yeah, you gotta have your favorites.
00:29:39.119 --> 00:29:51.440
And I feel like those contribute to your style if you're if you're working, you know, with the same materials, like in your hand is, you know, the one drawing things, like that all kind of contributes to your look, your aesthetic.
00:29:51.839 --> 00:29:56.160
So it's nice to yeah, have like a pack or two that you really resonate with.
00:29:56.400 --> 00:30:03.440
Um I guess like any like last thoughts regarding procreate brushes for our listeners.
00:30:04.079 --> 00:30:04.559
Hmm.
00:30:04.799 --> 00:30:06.559
Like parting advice, maybe.
00:30:07.039 --> 00:30:12.240
We can like shout out the brush packs that we've bought that we really like.
00:30:12.480 --> 00:30:17.200
Like I've said, Vivi brushes, which is by Vivian um Mildenberger.
00:30:17.759 --> 00:30:23.519
Yeah, I have the Freya Watercolor Pack, which I still like, and I have several of Devin L.
00:30:23.680 --> 00:30:27.039
Kurtz's grass brushes on her from her gumroad.
00:30:27.119 --> 00:30:28.880
Um, and those are pay what you can.
00:30:29.119 --> 00:30:34.240
So if you're broke and you want to learn to render grass, she has a tutorial on YouTube too, and I use it all the time.
00:30:34.400 --> 00:30:37.039
She actually has a book coming out later this year.
00:30:37.200 --> 00:30:40.079
It's from her Bakery Dragon series, which is adorable.
00:30:40.160 --> 00:30:41.279
I recommend it.
00:30:41.519 --> 00:30:43.599
Yeah, that's a really, really cute book.
00:30:43.839 --> 00:30:46.640
Um, the other person that I would recommend is Lucy Fleming.
00:30:46.720 --> 00:30:48.799
She has multiple brush sets.
00:30:48.960 --> 00:30:50.000
Uh, I have all of them.
00:30:50.160 --> 00:30:51.920
I think she has four and I have them all.
00:30:52.079 --> 00:30:55.759
She has Lucy's sketchpad, inkbox, pink box, and craft box.
00:30:55.839 --> 00:31:00.400
And there's a huge variation for like sketching, painting, traditional mediums.
00:31:00.799 --> 00:31:09.839
Um, the craft box is really fun because it's got like pastel finger smudge and then like chunky, really chunky brushes, waxy brushes.
00:31:10.000 --> 00:31:12.480
So that's really fun if you want to get like a lot of textures.
00:31:12.559 --> 00:31:15.039
I go to that set a lot for that.
00:31:15.519 --> 00:31:17.039
Um but those are my favorite.
00:31:17.680 --> 00:31:18.000
Cool.
00:31:18.079 --> 00:31:18.240
Yeah.
00:31:18.480 --> 00:31:22.319
Well, thanks so much for listening and geeking out about art supplies with us.
00:31:22.480 --> 00:31:25.359
Um, are you are you ready to jump into our agency deep dive?
00:31:25.519 --> 00:31:26.480
Let's do it.
00:31:26.960 --> 00:31:36.079
So, um, as you know, because we were talking about this the other day, the SCBWI Carolinas announced their lineup for uh the conference this autumn.
00:31:36.400 --> 00:31:42.880
And uh this agent is the one that I've been stalking because I'm gonna try and sign up for a crit with her.
00:31:43.039 --> 00:31:47.039
So this is Jess Regal or Jessica Regal at Helm Literary.
00:31:47.119 --> 00:31:49.440
She's the founder of Helm Literary.
00:31:49.839 --> 00:31:55.279
And I'm always looking for someone who takes illustrators but also reps older stuff and adult.
00:31:55.359 --> 00:32:04.079
And that's kind of hard to find since a lot of artists are repped by people who just do picture books and sometimes up to middle grade or YA, but they don't often branch out to adult.
00:32:04.319 --> 00:32:08.079
So she takes middle grade, YA adult, and graphic novels.
00:32:08.160 --> 00:32:10.799
Um, and it seems she has some picture books too.
00:32:11.119 --> 00:32:14.240
So I uh am excited for her.
00:32:14.480 --> 00:32:30.240
Um she is on Publishers Marketplace and she's she has like just a few deals on there, but I noticed that she's under Publishers Marketplace as Jessica Regal, and there are a lot of deals for Jess Regal that aren't listed and don't have a link to her.
00:32:30.319 --> 00:32:34.480
So I feel like she's got a lot more deals than is represented here.
00:32:34.640 --> 00:32:36.319
Um, that's interesting.
00:32:36.720 --> 00:32:44.559
She's been at Bookends and she's been at Galton Zachary, but she started Helm Literary and uh like fairly recently, I think.
00:32:44.640 --> 00:32:53.920
Um her last, let's see, three deals starting in December of 2025 are with Helm Literary, but as recently as October, it was still Galton Zachary.
00:32:54.079 --> 00:33:02.480
So, like just this past like six to eight months or so, I guess when this, depending on when this is released, she'll have been at her own agency that she started.
00:33:02.559 --> 00:33:07.359
And it's just her and one other agent um named Claire.
00:33:07.599 --> 00:33:11.279
And Claire is currently closed to queries, but she's open to queries.
00:33:11.839 --> 00:33:14.240
And she, let's see.
00:33:15.359 --> 00:33:22.720
Um, she is seeking conversation starters that pair high concept hooks with beautiful prose and unforgettable voices.
00:33:22.880 --> 00:33:33.200
And then she kind of like breaks everything down between like fiction, nonfiction, like other stuff, and then within that, like genres.
00:33:33.440 --> 00:33:38.319
So, for example, for fiction, you can look and see what she's looking for in contemporary and upmarket.
00:33:38.480 --> 00:33:41.839
She wants voice-driven stories with emotional depth and complex undertones.
00:33:42.240 --> 00:33:54.079
Um, she's looking for upmarket romance, speculative and cozy fantasy, literary thriller suspense, um, atmospheric and genre-bending books, fun and off-beat books, and graphic novels.
00:33:54.319 --> 00:33:55.519
Oh, oh God.
00:33:56.240 --> 00:33:58.880
It says she, I was looking at last 12 months.
00:33:59.119 --> 00:34:01.759
So it says she has a bunch of deals on publishers marketplace.
00:34:01.839 --> 00:34:06.000
So I think it's her back catalog that she's showing on her website.
00:34:06.319 --> 00:34:08.719
But she seems to sell pretty consistently.
00:34:08.880 --> 00:34:14.559
And she's ranked number four in Publishers Marketplace in television rights and number 12 in film rights.
00:34:14.719 --> 00:34:25.280
So I feel like she's gonna be like the person to like get your extra rights and like sign things um after your book deal and like help you get that extra money.
00:34:25.519 --> 00:34:34.800
Cause it seems like signing, yeah, like selling rights is like the next big thing you want your agent to be good at after the book deal.
00:34:34.960 --> 00:34:37.440
So yeah, um, you can go ahead and query her.
00:34:37.519 --> 00:34:43.360
You can sign up for the SCBWI Carolinas conference and maybe get a consultation with her.
00:34:43.679 --> 00:34:46.719
And I think that's it for now.
00:34:46.960 --> 00:34:50.559
Um, thank you so much for being here, and we will see you later.
00:34:51.039 --> 00:34:51.519
Bye.
