ABOUT THIS EPISODE
OTC Markets Group Head of APAC, International Corporate Services Stephen Shipley talked with Proactive about the company’s strategy for expanding its presence across the Asia-Pacific region and helping international companies improve access to US investors.
Speaking from Sydney during IMARC, Shipley explained that OTC Markets Group operates regulated markets in the US and provides trading venues for more than 12,000 securities, ranging from large international businesses to venture-stage companies. He also discussed the introduction of OTC ID for companies that do not meet the requirements of the company’s premium marketplaces.
Shipley highlighted OTC Markets Group’s growing activity across Asia-Pacific, including the opening of its Hong Kong office in May, increased engagement with companies in Greater China and Singapore, and the arrival of the first Taiwanese company on its marketplace during the year.
Discussing Australian companies considering an OTC quotation, Shipley stressed that gaining access to the market needs to be supported by a clear investor relations strategy. He said companies should consider “how their story might be different from how they tell it into Australia” when approaching investors in North America.
He also highlighted tools including OTC Markets Group’s virtual investor conferences and participation in conferences across Canada and the US as ways companies can broaden their investor engagement.
Shipley also discussed Computershare joining the OTCQX market, describing the company as the world’s largest stock transfer agent and noting that it joins other global companies trading through the marketplace.
