ABOUT THIS EPISODE
International Graphite Ltd managing director and CEO Andrew Worland talked with Proactive about the company’s proposed name change to IG6 Advanced Materials Limited and how it reflects an increasing focus on midstream and downstream graphite processing.
Worland explained that the company is moving closer to its end markets, customers and consumers of specialised graphite products as its processing projects progress. Its Collie operation in Western Australia is currently under construction, while its planned joint venture development with Alkeemia S.p.A. in Italy is also moving towards construction.
Discussing the shift in strategy since International Graphite listed in 2022, Worland said the supply of graphite concentrate from existing mining operations was stronger than originally expected. As a result, the company sees processing as a more efficient route to generating cash flow and returns.
He also provided an update on construction at Collie, where the production shed was around 30% complete at the time of the interview and orders for the first milling equipment were expected shortly. The company is targeting customers primarily in Japan and Korea for Collie production, alongside some Australian demand.
In Europe, International Graphite is progressing permitting and funding initiatives for its planned development with Alkeemia. Worland said the first 10,000 tonnes of capacity was expected to be consumed largely within Europe.
