ABOUT THIS EPISODE
*Content warning: This episode contains discussions of traumatic pregnancy, emergency birth, medical trauma, pregnancy loss, and maternal mental health.
Today Varrsha shares what it feels like to prepare for your own death while praying your baby gets to live. We chat about the trauma that continued long after birth, and how spirituality became the thread that carried her through.
Georgia met Varrsha by chance at a market over the smell of incense, and within minutes they were talking about spirituality, motherhood and surviving the unimaginable.
At 23, Varsha's pregnancy took a devastating turn. What began as a normal pregnancy quickly became a life-threatening battle with severe pre-eclampsia. She was repeatedly told she and her baby wouldn't survive. Doctors refused to treat her. She lost control over her own body, her own decisions, and even her own birth.
We unpack:
- The reality of severe pre-eclampsia and maternal trauma
- Being told you and your baby probably won't survive
- Losing autonomy during pregnancy
- Spirituality as an anchor through crisis
- Birth trauma and the emotional aftermath
- Why emotional support can change everything
- Raising a miracle baby after months of uncertainty
- Healing from experiences that never really leave you
