ABOUT THIS EPISODE
God feels quiet and that silence starts sounding like rejection. We’ve been there too, and we made this message for the moments when you’ve been praying, waiting, and wondering if heaven is listening. The heart of it is simple but strong: silence doesn’t mean absence, and delay doesn’t mean denial. When God isn’t speaking the way we expect, He can still be present, faithful, and actively working behind the scenes.
We open Scripture and sit with the raw honesty of Psalm 13, where David asks God, “How long?” If a worshiper like David faced silent seasons, we don’t have to shame ourselves for struggling. We also lean on God’s promise in Hebrews 13:5 and challenge the habit of measuring God’s presence by our feelings. Then we talk about waiting as spiritual formation, using Isaiah 40:31 to reframe the quiet as a training season where strength is rebuilt and faith gets real.
We also explore how God speaks without shouting, pointing to 1 Kings 19 and the still small voice, and we look at John 11 where Jesus delays before coming to Lazarus. What looks like neglect can actually be a setup for something greater than what we asked for. Finally, we look at Jesus and the silence before resurrection as our reminder that quiet is not the end of the story.
If you’re walking through a silent season, listen all the way through, share it with someone who needs hope, and subscribe, rate, and review so more people can find encouragement for the Christian journey.

00:00:00.080 --> 00:00:04.959
Welcome to Order My Steps, The Christian Journey, and I'm your host, Reverend Corey Young.
00:00:05.200 --> 00:00:08.640
And today we're talking about something real, something that's deep.
00:00:08.800 --> 00:00:12.720
And that is what do you do when God is silent?
00:00:12.960 --> 00:00:19.440
When you've been praying, when you've been believing, when you've been seeking, and it feels like heaven is quiet.
00:00:19.920 --> 00:00:24.160
Have you ever been in a place where you prayed but didn't get an answer?
00:00:24.320 --> 00:00:26.719
You cried but didn't feel relief.
00:00:26.960 --> 00:00:29.440
You waited, but nothing changed.
00:00:29.679 --> 00:00:33.280
And you started wondering, God, are you even there?
00:00:33.679 --> 00:00:35.600
Let me help you with that today.
00:00:35.920 --> 00:00:38.159
Silence doesn't mean absence.
00:00:38.479 --> 00:00:40.560
Delay doesn't mean denial.
00:00:40.880 --> 00:00:44.240
God is still working, even when he's not speaking.
00:00:44.479 --> 00:00:45.840
Let's look into the word.
00:00:46.320 --> 00:00:53.520
Psalms chapter 13, verse 1 through 2 says something like this: How long without forget me, O Lord?
00:00:53.840 --> 00:01:00.719
This is King David talking, a man after God's own heart, a worshiper, a king, a believer.
00:01:01.039 --> 00:01:04.319
And even he said, Lord, how long?
00:01:05.040 --> 00:01:07.359
That lets us know something powerful.
00:01:07.599 --> 00:01:10.959
Even strong believers go through silent seasons.
00:01:11.280 --> 00:01:14.000
God's silence is not his absence.
00:01:14.319 --> 00:01:18.239
Just because you don't feel God doesn't mean God left you.
00:01:18.480 --> 00:01:23.359
Hebrews 13 and 5 says, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.
00:01:23.599 --> 00:01:24.879
And that's a promise.
00:01:25.120 --> 00:01:27.920
And God is not a man that he should lie.
00:01:28.319 --> 00:01:34.000
So if he said he's with you, he's with you, even when it feels quiet.
00:01:34.480 --> 00:01:38.400
So stop measuring God's presence by your feelings.
00:01:39.599 --> 00:01:43.200
God still can be present and silent at the same time.
00:01:43.519 --> 00:01:47.120
Because silence is a season of development.
00:01:47.439 --> 00:01:54.000
And what I mean by that is sometimes God will go quiet because He's working on you.
00:01:54.239 --> 00:02:00.319
In fact, Isaiah 40 and 31 says, They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
00:02:00.560 --> 00:02:02.799
So waiting is not wasted time.
00:02:03.040 --> 00:02:05.040
Waited is training season.
00:02:05.280 --> 00:02:09.840
You don't build strength and comfort, but you build strength in waiting.
00:02:10.159 --> 00:02:14.479
God develops you in private before he reveals you in public.
00:02:14.719 --> 00:02:16.240
Let me repeat that again.
00:02:16.560 --> 00:02:20.800
God develops you in private before he reveals you in public.
00:02:20.960 --> 00:02:23.840
So don't rush what God is trying to grow.
00:02:24.080 --> 00:02:25.680
Because God is speaking.
00:02:29.680 --> 00:02:33.520
Some of us are missing God because we're looking for noise.
00:02:33.759 --> 00:02:36.400
But God doesn't always shout.
00:02:36.719 --> 00:02:47.039
1 King 19 says something like he wasn't in the wind, he wasn't in the earthquake, he wasn't in the fire, but he was in the still small voice.
00:02:47.360 --> 00:02:51.759
That means God may not be loud, but he's still speaking.
00:02:52.080 --> 00:02:55.599
Just because it's quiet doesn't mean it's empty.
00:02:56.800 --> 00:02:59.520
Silence sometimes tests your faith.
00:02:59.680 --> 00:03:01.759
This is where faith becomes real.
00:03:02.000 --> 00:03:11.039
2 Corinthians 5 says, We walk by faith, not by sight, not by feelings, not by emotions, not by what we hear.
00:03:11.360 --> 00:03:16.319
Faith says, even if I don't hear God, I still trust him.
00:03:16.719 --> 00:03:19.199
And that's when real faith shows up.
00:03:19.360 --> 00:03:22.159
And it shows up when God goes quiet.
00:03:22.400 --> 00:03:26.560
And when he goes quiet, just know God is working behind the scenes.
00:03:26.879 --> 00:03:30.319
Just because God is silent doesn't mean he's inactive.
00:03:30.639 --> 00:03:36.080
John chapter 11 mentions something about Jesus delayed before coming to Lazarus.
00:03:36.479 --> 00:03:38.960
And it looked like he didn't care.
00:03:39.280 --> 00:03:43.039
But what Jesus was doing, he was setting up a miracle.
00:03:43.360 --> 00:03:45.039
God may be quiet.
00:03:45.439 --> 00:03:50.400
He's quiet because he's preparing something greater than what you ask for.
00:03:50.719 --> 00:03:53.199
So I know it's been quiet.
00:03:53.439 --> 00:03:54.960
I know you've been praying.
00:03:55.120 --> 00:03:56.800
I know you've been waiting.
00:03:57.120 --> 00:03:59.120
But I'll share this with you.
00:03:59.439 --> 00:04:01.439
God has not forgotten about you.
00:04:01.680 --> 00:04:04.719
You may not hear him, but he's still moving.
00:04:04.960 --> 00:04:07.599
You may not feel him, but he's still working.
00:04:07.840 --> 00:04:12.319
And just because it's silent right now, it doesn't mean it's over.
00:04:12.639 --> 00:04:19.199
Because the same God that kept you yesterday is the same God that's going to bring you through today.
00:04:19.439 --> 00:04:25.040
And if you ever wonder how to trust God in silence, look at Jesus.
00:04:25.279 --> 00:04:32.079
There was silence before his accusers, there was silent on the cross, and there was even silent in the grave.
00:04:32.319 --> 00:04:37.439
But the most important part is early Sunday morning, Jesus got up.
00:04:37.680 --> 00:04:39.120
That's your reminder.
00:04:39.439 --> 00:04:43.680
God may be silent now, but resurrection power is on his way.
00:04:43.920 --> 00:04:48.959
So if this blessed you, share this with somebody who's in a silent season.
00:04:49.120 --> 00:04:51.040
Let us close with the word of prayer.
00:04:51.279 --> 00:04:53.600
Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus.
00:04:53.759 --> 00:04:56.800
We come before you right now, Lord, saying thank you.
00:04:57.040 --> 00:04:58.560
Thank you for being God.
00:04:58.800 --> 00:05:00.560
Even when we don't understand.
00:05:00.800 --> 00:05:05.040
Thank you for being present, even when it feels like things are quiet.
00:05:05.360 --> 00:05:08.319
Lord, you see every person that's listening right now.
00:05:08.480 --> 00:05:12.720
You see the ones who have been praying, waiting, hurting, and wondering.
00:05:12.879 --> 00:05:16.959
And God, in this moment, we ask you to strengthen their faith.
00:05:17.120 --> 00:05:21.519
Remind them that your silence doesn't mean you're absent.
00:05:21.920 --> 00:05:26.000
Remind them that you are still working behind the scenes.
00:05:26.240 --> 00:05:29.279
Father, give them peace in the middle of uncertainty.
00:05:29.439 --> 00:05:33.040
Give them strength to keep going when they feel like giving up.
00:05:33.279 --> 00:05:36.879
Give them faith to trust you, even when they don't hear you.
00:05:37.120 --> 00:05:40.480
Lord, help us walk by faith and not by sight.
00:05:40.639 --> 00:05:44.240
Help us to stand on your promises and not on our feelings.
00:05:44.399 --> 00:05:49.920
And God, we declare right now that every solid season will produce something powerful.
00:05:50.079 --> 00:05:53.120
We trust you, we believe you, and we lean on you.
00:05:53.279 --> 00:05:55.199
It's in Jesus' name we pray.
00:05:55.519 --> 00:05:56.160
Amen.
00:05:56.560 --> 00:06:03.199
This is Reverend Corey Young, and remember, even when God is silent, let Him still order your steps.
