ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Episode 69 – Offside by a Mile
This episode was recorded live on Twitter following the game five and series win for the Colorado Avalanche over the Arizona Coyotes.
It was another 7-1 hammering of the Coyotes, and the Avs win the series 4-1 after two incredibly dominant performances.
We get into some valuable players for the Avs throughout round one. Nathan MacKinnon has been that leader and MVP that he’s been all year long. He’s excelled offensively, and at the moment the game ended, he was leading the NHL in points this playoffs.
Nazem Kadri has been playing possibly the best hockey of his career. He’s playing like an absolute beast and had two goals in both games four and five. He’s flourished in his spot in front of the net on the powerplay, and has been a huge factor offensively as he leads the team in goals.
The special teams was a bright spot in this series, as well. The penalty kill did a great job with aggressive forwards on the umbrella at the top, and calculated play by the defenders, who were quick into loose pucks. The kill was fantastic and usually had no problem clearing the puck against a weak Coyotes powerplay.
The Avs powerplay, on the other hand, was very successful. They created energy a lot of the time, and since game three were getting plenty of great looks at Kuemper. In game three, Kuemper stopped the opportunites; in game four and five, not so much. The powerplay dismantled Arizona’s penalty kill at times.
There wasn’t much for us to criticise about the Avs play in the past two games. The fourth line, and Phillip Grubauer were other topics of highlight.
The Avs will have to wait till the weekend to find out what opponent they will have for round two. The boys can rest for now and be proud of a great first round. However, the hard work has just begun. Four down, and twelve to go.
