ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The round-robin is complete, and the Avs go 2-0-1 over those three games. This episode we chat all about those games, and give our overall impression of the Avalanche’s efforts throughout.
In their matchup with Dallas, the Avs looked sharp and dangerous. With a 4-0 victory, the offense shined, and the pressure was immense. The forecheck was on point, and the team looked good from top to bottom. Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon were displaying their skill and captivating us with their chemistry. Everything looked smooth, and tweaks by Jared Bednar to the lines brought a well-balanced offense, and four solid units doing their jobs right.
The Vegas game is where the Avs showed a lot of battle. To tie a game late and push overtime is a good sign for resilience. Vegas looked like a strong club, and in a close game, they turned in a perfect round-robin with a 3-0-0 record by beating the Avs 3-2 in OT. It wasn’t the smooth performance we’d seen against the Stars, but it was a tough and gruelling matchup with a physical, and frankly, really good Vegas Golden Knights team.
Penalties, and officiating in general, have been an interesting subject. The refs seem unafraid to blow the whistle across the league. The special teams have had game practice, and there are some holes we’d like fixed. The Avs displayed some good performances on both the powerplay and penalty kill, but also some bad ones.
Goaltending has been good for both goalies, and we believe that sets up the Avs with Grubauer as the starter, and Frankie being a trusted and tested backup and safety cushion.
In our #Acrosstherink segment this week, we go over the general feelings and vibes heading into the series against the Arizona Coyotes, with Sporty with Cori & Richie, our Coyotes podcast for THPN. It was a great chat ahead of an interesting seven-game series. Follow them on Twitter @Cori_RichieShow. We’ll enjoy the series alongside each other as that series will start early this week.
Enjoy the episode, and #GOAVSGO.
