Speaker 1: Hey, babe, are you o kid?
00:00:03
Speaker 2: No film right now? Please not do this?
00:00:07
Speaker 3: Is this because the Mavericks traded Juca Johnson.
00:00:12
Speaker 4: It's Luka Doncic.
00:00:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, I said that, Juka Knockovic.
00:00:16
Speaker 4: His name is Luka Doncic said that, Luca Nachol, Juka Jabaka.
00:00:20
Speaker 1: I'm not making fun Luca, Yeah, Juca john.
00:00:25
Speaker 2: Who do you know that's named Juka?
00:00:27
Speaker 4: No, his name is Luca.
00:00:29
Speaker 2: I'm start calling him Juka Johnson because it's Luka Doncic.
00:00:31
Speaker 4: It's I know, it's Luca Knockoback. Why what is that? It's important to me, It's important for us.
00:00:37
Speaker 5: Let's see the name together.
00:00:38
Speaker 1: Okay, ready, Luca, Luca don Chic, j.
00:00:47
Speaker 5: Good, Good Mornings, swe Welcome to the No Dungs Podcast on the Athletic Network. It's Tuesday, February fourth, twenty twenty five. I'm Jay Skeets here in the Classic Factory and alongside me as always, Testlous Castle.
00:01:00
Speaker 2: This is for you.
00:01:01
Speaker 5: Next to him, it's the Bearded One, my top shot boy, Trick Kirby Hey and over Yonder making the magic happen.
00:01:07
Speaker 4: Super producer jd Oh.
00:01:09
Speaker 1: Hello, there's a lot whoa whoa, whoa there a.
00:01:14
Speaker 2: Jazz listeners that was for you. Now that was embarrassing.
00:01:19
Speaker 5: Hello, everybody joining us live right now on YouTube. Hit the like button, subscribe podcast listeners. We love you as well. Leave us a five star rating and review. If you haven't lots of games to talk about, some slop to talk about, obviously you're gonna go back to the Luca A d trade because there's been some Duca Johnson because there's been more reporting on that. So lots to get to here. But we had another wedgie. They come in bunches, that's just how it works. And this one was Quentin Post on the you know, attempt at the put back sticks it in there on the rebound, the offensive rebound. So Leggie number twenty six.
00:01:57
Speaker 2: The weggieing Dutchman, that's what they call them. Oh yes to hear Kelenna as a bookie on the Warriors broadcast, Yell.
00:02:05
Speaker 4: Reggie.
00:02:07
Speaker 1: Hit my heart.
00:02:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, just a former player that excited.
00:02:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, he was super excited. Good Reggie.
00:02:12
Speaker 5: I think only our second like rebound weggie of the year and the first again on the offensive class. I remember a Champagnee had one earlier in the year, but that was a defensive sort of tip situation.
00:02:26
Speaker 1: Ye, I like it. I like it when it's underneath the rim, it looks weird. Yeah, all right.
00:02:30
Speaker 5: Hemisphere, So good job by post. Let's get into some games. Picked a few to talk about here with you guys. We watched a lot of these on playback last night. Shouted everybody that joined us, had a lot of fun. Trey Young took over in the fourth quarter against the Pistons, helped the Hawks end an eight game losing streak. I hadn't realized it was that bad, so really needed this one.
00:02:51
Speaker 4: Trey did his thing.
00:02:52
Speaker 5: He hit a rainbow jumper TK that was just like a bit of a prayer shot. Malik Beasley then fell as he challenged it. Only both were on the ground, and when Trey got up, he did the old Alan Iverson step over like a I did to Tylo back in the finals. Very reminiscent of that. But seventeen of his thirty four and the fourth for Trey Young they needed.
00:03:15
Speaker 6: This is the definition of good defense, better offense, because Malik Beasley was all over him. Trey Young doesn't take a side step to the right, one foot behind the three point line, one foot inside the three point line. He doesn't take that shot very much. He shot it so high up into the air, drops through nicely. Piston's had a chance on the other end, poor pass by kid Cunningham would have had it been perfect.
00:03:34
Speaker 1: For it to work.
00:03:35
Speaker 6: But I was just wondering if Trey Young set up Malik Beasley like that, you know, he fell down, Beasley was stumbling back, Trey table topped him a little bit, went for the fully extended body. Beasley drops and then Bob Rathman called it the Motown stop. I thought that was a great line by Bobby Boy.
00:03:52
Speaker 1: But it's cool.
00:03:54
Speaker 6: After all star reserves are announced, it feels like every game is a statement game, and this one it was like first timer in Caid Cunningham versus snub machine and Trey Young. And Trey Young was just a little bit better in the fourth quarter, Like you said, seventeen of his thirty four points, he went five of seven from the field, had an assist Cad twelve points on three or five, and he was just having a little bit tougher time, I thought, getting to some of his shots. So good win for the Hawks.
00:04:17
Speaker 1: They absolutely needed it here.
00:04:19
Speaker 6: And if you're Trey Young and you you know you put out your little tweets saying that we're not calling them snubs anymore, We're calling them trays.
00:04:26
Speaker 1: This is a good way to show up against the guy who took one of your spots.
00:04:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I do think he was surprised that Malik Beasley was lying under because I think he saw it and then he just ad lipped his celebration. He would usually go to the oh, I'm cold, but then he saw it and started stomping. I think the first step was, WHOA, this guy is under me. I got to come up with a new celebration, and it is me doing the Motown stomp.
00:04:49
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:04:49
Speaker 4: He sees him right there. He's like, I'm stepping over you.
00:04:52
Speaker 1: Got this keeping going.
00:04:54
Speaker 2: Seventeen fourth court points and he said, and sixteen field goal attempts throughout this game. I mean that's not a lot. He got to the throw line a ton, fourteen free throws for him. I was a little surprised that a sar Thompson wasn't on him instead of Bleak Beasley.
00:05:05
Speaker 4: He gave up the switch there. Yeah yeah, and he was on him a lot down.
00:05:08
Speaker 2: The stage and he did a good jump. Yeah yeah. Although, yeah, Malik Beasley was definitely right in front of him. I don't know about going to Tobias Harris for the game winning attempt. I know the pass wasn't absolutely perfect, but Tobias Harris jumping straight up for the ball also wasn't perfect. He just kind of threw out his arm. But maybe, I mean, that's not Tobias's thing to jump up straight in the air. It had to be absolutely like right there, while somebody else probably could have cut it and scored.
00:05:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, they needed a pinpoint perfect pass. It wasn't. But also you probably have like a bigger margin for.
00:05:39
Speaker 6: Error if it's Thompson or Jalen Duran being the guy jumping at the rim.
00:05:45
Speaker 1: But still what it had to have been an awesome pass from Caiden. It was an okay pass. Yeah, weird playing, very fast pass. Yeah it was he rocking at that.
00:05:52
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was weird play too.
00:05:54
Speaker 5: Obviously in a close game, fourth quarter three, P forty left Detroit down to Assar Thompson, who again was sort of hounding Trey Junk. You know, the pick came, there's too many bodies there, The ball like squirts out. Asar Thompson picks it up. He's all out like it's fast break and he gets a little too excited and just fumbles it away like out of the baseline. And that was huge At the time. You're like, oh my god, is that going to be the difference maker?
00:06:19
Speaker 4: Now they lose.
00:06:20
Speaker 5: Now they got to stop and then score. So it was all tied up again after that. But that's gonna be I believe on shocked in a fool because that was a pretty rough one.
00:06:27
Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, And it didn't look like it was going the Hawk's way either late because it looked like they had it. They had a huge fart at the end of a shot clock where DeAndre Hunters. Yeah, he could have let it go. It was a beautiful attempt there. It was minute twenty seconds left. It could have been a beautiful attempt, but he just dribbles instead. So I thought they were done. Yeah, it looked like they were done on their side. But the Pistons also farted as well, the little brain farts on either side.
00:06:49
Speaker 5: There you go, got your hearts in for somebody that wanted that high stream team.
00:06:53
Speaker 2: I should have said brain fart for immediately, but I went fart Okay.
00:06:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, Dyson Daniels had a good game. Flirting with the five by five, nineteen points, six boards, seven assists, four steals, and one of those steals was huge. That was the poke away on Kid coming Huntingham with like thirty five seconds to go.
00:07:11
Speaker 4: That was big.
00:07:11
Speaker 5: And then three blocks, so he had you know, he had the points, rebounds, assists, those were taken care of and then he had three and three there for like a majority of the fourth quarter and we were talking, oh is he gonna do this? But not easy to get two more steals, two more blocks in the final nine minutes of a game, but he ultimately got one more steal.
00:07:28
Speaker 1: I would say he's a candidate. He's a candidate at some point in his career.
00:07:33
Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, that poke from Kith Canham was so quick. I had to look at it again and again just to see if Kid lost it. Yes, it was super fast, but he made up for DeAndre Hunter's brain fart with that immediately after. It was beautiful and he had a great game scoring. I thought the back door cuts, the running bank, don't see that from him too often, and the spin move on Isaiah Stewart you definitely don't see Dyson Daniels do that very often. Resets him up one way and Isaiah went diving like he's having into the stew and he got lost. You don't see that from Dyson Daniels. It looks like that game is expanding as they just let him go to work up tops do your thing, Dyson Daniels, sometimes he makes it work.
00:08:10
Speaker 5: And because we are you know, the biggest VT Crachy fans on planet Earth. He had a good game for them, you know, thirteen points off the bench. He made a big play late like it was sort of like a broken play. You know, they're obviously trying to get the ball back to tray. It found Vet in the corner and he attacked and then the defense collapsed and he found a congu and he finished with like a beauty left hand layoup. But like smart play by him. He didn't sort of like panic in that situation. That was a huge timely bucket. So they get the win Hawks one thirty two one to improve improve to twenty three and twenty seven.
00:08:42
Speaker 4: Am I alone.
00:08:42
Speaker 5: I didn't realize eight straight. I knew they were like really here after the Jalen Johnson injury, but not that bad.
00:08:49
Speaker 2: Yeah happened. I'd been to two of them and I didn't realize there was that many a thing like that. Yeah, yeah, the Jalen Johnson thing obviously gives us the reasoning and we all say, oh, going to drop out of the play. In that being said, this is obviously a big win in the play and race. What also happened in this one, no jailing, no capella, no bug down, bog down about who we all say is bound to be dealt here before the trade touchline. Doesn't hurt them that he's hurt right before the trade deadline. I don't know, but it is a guy that people want. I'm sure.
00:09:18
Speaker 5: Okay, let's keep it going here. Let's move to Madison Square, gard fun game between the Rockets and Knicks. Jalen Brunson though the star forty two points, ten assists, they rally the Knicks to pass the next They were down like eleven there at one point in the second half, but come back and it was similar to what happened with Trey Young and the Hawks. It was brunts and takeover. TK seventeen of his points in the fourth quarter in a game that they did trail. He hit a lay up there that put the Knicks ahead, and then he followed it up with a big three pointer in that game, a little a little space to play with as they got the victory.
00:09:51
Speaker 6: I had him as MVP preseason. He's not gonna win MVP, but he's gonna win clutch Player of the Year. The guy takes over every fourth quarter for the next You mentioned the scoring last night. He scored or assisted on twenty two of the Knick's last twenty six plays. It was crazy too, because through the first three quarters you heard Walt Clyde Frazer saying it on the broadcast the entire time, every shot was tough for Jalen Brunson, like having to work so hard to get into his little side steps and his floaters. And then in the fourth quarter it looked like easy mode for Jalen Brunson getting.
00:10:20
Speaker 1: Anywhere he wanted, scoring and assisting.
00:10:23
Speaker 2: That was awesome.
00:10:23
Speaker 6: It's cool to watch too. It was basically Jalen Brunson versus a Men Thompson for the Rockets, and it's like two completely different play styles. You've got craft guy in Brunson, you've got super athlete and a men Thompson, who finished with a triple double once again, also had one of the highlights of the year, crossing up precious Atchua and dunking on him on the same possession. Clyde great line on that one. Feline quickness, canine aggression. Yeah, we were rolling on playback when he saw that one. This was a fun game to watch. Rockets got out to a big lead. Nick's battle back, Rockets got out to another big lead. Knicks battled back. Really impressive stuff. Brunson. Just if you've got him on your team, if you're the next you've got to feel good every fourth quarter because he's gonna get the right shots and he's pretty efficient when it comes down to it.
00:11:08
Speaker 2: Y spectacular game. We called it yesterday while we sat here and we're trying to promo playback. I'm sure we'll watch this game. Yeah, but this game came through not just because it was in Madison Square Garden and the fans were into it. I think if you were in any gym anywhere, the fans the casuals would be into it. It looked great and it looked like the Rockets had this one has they were up late in this fourth quarter. You saw spectacular plays that the one you mentioned with him Men Thompson. Then Jalen Green had a beautiful inside out and he went up and he switched hands over Karl Anthony Towns. I mean that was gorgeous. Thought he was gonna crown Towns. But he goes to the left hand. That looked great. And then men Thompson another dunk with under two minutes left that he just got it so fast.
00:11:50
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you he.
00:11:52
Speaker 5: Dunked it before the other Knicks players could even.
00:11:54
Speaker 4: Like jump to react.
00:11:56
Speaker 1: Crazy.
00:11:56
Speaker 5: The guy is just like in a league full of the best athletes in the world, he looks like on another level and it jumps off the screen. It's like it's like everybody agrees. It's like, oh no, he's a different.
00:12:07
Speaker 4: Type of athlete.
00:12:09
Speaker 2: That was feline stuff. Man. Yeah, that was out of nowhere.
00:12:12
Speaker 5: But you also saw his you know, his youthfulness, I guess in a bad way. Like a couple of errors at the end and he's being asked to do a ton suddenly as like, hey, you're the lead guy here, go get us a bucket or go create something. In a couple of times obviously got stopped or slipped out of his hands and.
00:12:26
Speaker 4: Stuff like that.
00:12:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, they didn't have Fred van Vliet to help out. They didn't have Shenghun. Although Aaron Holliday was awesome in that fourth quarter. Aeron Holiday, this team is three point guards deep. We saw Reed Shepherd for a second there, but he got to sit because Aaron Holiday was coming through with big buckets. But then Jalen Brunson closed it. Yeah, seventeen and that fourth quarter eleven. In the last four minutes, he had three buckets in a minute and he was the Terror giving it to the Terror twins. He went back to back against the men Thompson and Tari Easton, which are both great defenders. But what a spectacular game. And he got to the line to fourteen free throws, just like Trey Young forty one ten six boards. He's also just he's so resilient going at everything. It's fun. And they didn't have Og as well. Yeah, so they needed somebody like that to help out. But what a game.
00:13:12
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:13:12
Speaker 5: Houston's bench though outscored the Knicks forty one to twelve. They won the rebounding battle by ten.
00:13:19
Speaker 4: Houston did the.
00:13:20
Speaker 5: Knicks only shot six to twenty six from three. You don't see that all that often and win a game still where he hit six threes. They had fourteen turnovers and like still, it's just it was Brunton. They win this game solely because of Jalen Brunson in the fourth quarter. He was so so special and he's just relentless.
00:13:35
Speaker 4: Man.
00:13:36
Speaker 5: He now passed Carmelo Anthony when it comes to forty point games.
00:13:41
Speaker 4: As a nick.
00:13:42
Speaker 1: Wow, crazy, that is fast.
00:13:44
Speaker 5: Very fast, very trails only Patrick Ewing who did it thirty times in Bernard King. I mean two Hall of Famers there, and I think it was like Brnson's eighteenth or nineteenth or something like that. So he's gonna likely pass Bernard King at the very least.
00:13:56
Speaker 4: Crazy.
00:13:57
Speaker 5: But man, back to that on Mentom's play, Like what I loved about that is you had Mike Green and Clyde Fraser showing it well deserved love despite it happening to the Knicks, Like like Clyde is going he had precious on the ice skates. He kept saying that, and then he had like the bars like you said after going yes, as brings it up like yeah, does that crazy little inside out dribble has precious like stumbling credits are precious and didn't fall over and then gets back but then gets dunked on because Thompson's that athletic.
00:14:30
Speaker 1: What a play.
00:14:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, precious is persistence made it double the yeah highlight because he could have just allowed him to drop him in dunk, but he went and got dunked on too.
00:14:41
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:14:41
Speaker 2: I was pretty good efforts.
00:14:43
Speaker 4: So fun, fun game.
00:14:44
Speaker 5: Definitely check out the highlights at the very least of the Knicks getting it done there against the Rockets, who I think have now lost three in a row. And you know, with the way Grizzlies are playing, and they picked up another w last night, you know, a tiny little separation there between the second and the third scenes in the West.
00:14:59
Speaker 4: Another game we got to talk about that.
00:15:00
Speaker 5: We watched the ending of DeRozan leading the Kings one sixteen one fourteen to a roadway over the Wolves. Now I was gonna call them like the new look Kings, but no exactly being there on the roster, just obviously no Deer in Fox. So it was DeRozan and Monk, you know, leading again Sacramento to a pretty solid.
00:15:20
Speaker 4: Victory in Minnesota.
00:15:21
Speaker 6: Ten points in the fourth quarter for Monk, nine in the fourth quarter for DeRozan, and they were basically just taking turns down the stretch against the Timberwolves, and the Timberwolves couldn't get a stop on either of them. It felt like DeRozan uh was in clutch Player of the Year mode, what back in his Bulls days, getting exactly to the spots he wanted. If it was a shorter guard like a Nikiel, Alexander Walker, even Anthony Edwards, he was just shooting.
00:15:44
Speaker 1: Over the top.
00:15:45
Speaker 6: If it was Jayden McDaniels going by him finishing at the rim as well, that was pretty impressive. Monk's been on quite a run here. He's been once they moved him into the starting lineup. It's kind of when things really turned for this team. And then you look at the fourth quarter the way they were playing, it's like, oh, they have a decent line up there. Still it was Monk, Maurice Abonis, DeRozan, and Kean Ellis. Like that's a decent closing lineup for the Sacramento Kings, a team they would have been playing anyways, you know, had Dearon Fox been out with an injury or something like that. So I liked watching it. My question was like, how does Zach Levine fit in here? Because it felt like we're watching two guys take turns Monk and DeRozan, they're both playing awesome. That's worked for the Kings here. Zach Levine did not like being used as go stand there in the corner and wait for Demart de Rosen to cook when he was on the Chicago Bulls. Part of that, certainly was his relationship with Billy Donovan wasn't great, but definitely Lavine didn't like being superseded by DeRozan as the go to guy. He wanted touches in the fourth quarter. I don't know where they're gonna come from.
00:16:40
Speaker 1: But the Kings, as Bullsy's or Bulls West, they should be better.
00:16:46
Speaker 6: Relatively, yes, yes, but they're still in the Western Conference, which is also better, So I don't know where that leaves them. But this was a nice win for the Kings and great stuff from DeRozan and from Monk.
00:16:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, Derozane definitely looked like a number one guy, where Zach is going to have to take a number two seed going down the stretch there. I don't know how the chemistry works. It is a big question, but they have the chemistry right out of the gate. I mean, thirty eight points in the first quarter. It ain't easy to do but their offense looks great and they closed it obviously with DeRozan especially thirty three points on twenty five shots, while Monk was twenty six points on twenty three shots. But DeRozan the seven sits zero turnovers. I mean, it seems like with Fox out of the way, he's the one and that's it. But we will see how that all plays out with zach Lavine and Monk behind him. The other side. Anthony Edwards didn't look right. He came back from illness, looked like he was a little sick out there. Still not so good.
00:17:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, seven to twenty one for Aunt twenty one points, three to ten from deep no Julius Randall.
00:17:43
Speaker 2: Turnovers, Yeah, no, no Randalls.
00:17:45
Speaker 6: I thought he was worse on the defensive en Yeah, I thought Edwards was getting cooked. And yes, he's coming back from an illness, But I feel like every time I watched the Timberwolves A they're always playing a close game and I'm seeing Edward's guy score.
00:17:55
Speaker 1: All the time.
00:17:56
Speaker 6: He's easily screened, he's very easily pumped, faked, and he's getting beat off the dribble quite a bit. Like Monk dusted him a couple of times. In the fourth quarter, getting wide open layups in half court settings. Minnesota has played thirty one clutch games. It's the most in the league. This season. They're thirteen and eighteen. They've won forty one percent. That's twenty fifth in the league. That's the reason that their record is so poor this season. In clutch situations. They're twenty seventh in offense. We know that's a problem because they just can't get good shots. They had like a six minute stretch here where they scored two points. Edwards didn't score in the fourth quarter until the game was over for the most part. But they're twenty fourth in defense as well. They're supposed to be a good defensive team. They've got Anthony Edwards, who's supposed to be a good defensive player. I don't think he has been this season. McDaniels is looking a little bit better right now, but they should be able to get stops. Yeah, this is a team that is built as a defensive identity, and they don't really play any defense, especially in the fourth quarters, especially in clutch situations, and they just have to hope that Edwards is hitting threes.
00:18:52
Speaker 1: It's it's a weird team. That's why they've been so streaky this year.
00:18:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, they need the Don back. And by the Don, I don't mean Luca, I mean the Dante. I think I think they.
00:19:01
Speaker 3: I didn't know who you meant, so, yeah, clarify he's important. They don't have a identity in the fourth quarter, and I think they started to try and find one by putting Dante in the starting lineup and getting to that who they are, because yeah, they're still a good team, but they don't close games out very well, which again was something that happened last year, and they somehow find it found it enough, especially in the postseason. But there, Yeah, their defense is lacking, especially on the perimeter, there's no doubt.
00:19:31
Speaker 5: Another game of note, Devin Booker became the Suns all time leading scorer in a loss to the Blazers. They fall in overtime, but book did pass Walter Davis's franchise record of fifteen six and sixty six points. Hit a three there, you know, close to midway through the third quarter, hugged his family members at the next time out, given a pretty loud ovation I thought from the fans, like respect there from the Portland crowd. Pretty classy move. But yeah, Portland got it done in the end. They're hot right now. This team is racking up victories. The Blazers had a three point lead. Ovdya fouled Booker in the corner like he was just like he was just like way too close up on him, under him, got the foul called, but Booker made the first two free throws, missed the third and ate and grabbed his twentieth rebounds.
00:20:20
Speaker 4: That's a lot of roast beef, that's right.
00:20:22
Speaker 5: He had a big game twenty five and twenty and Blazers got the one, twenty one to one to nineteen victories. So not good for the Suns. Congrats to Booker. I'm becoming the franchises all time leading scorer. But man, Portland, Man, let me.
00:20:33
Speaker 1: Cast them up right now.
00:20:33
Speaker 6: Yeah, they're still the one in twenty nine. That's not good. Thirteenth in the Western Conference. They would be tenth in the East. They're tied with the Bulls right now. Four straight wins. They've won eight of their last nine games. They went eight and eight in January, Like, these don't sound good. That was their first five hundred month since December of twenty twenty two. The things that stick out to me, first and foremost, Denny Abdia as a starter. Now Shadon Sharp went to the bench. That's when the winning started eight of their last nine, like I said, and that has been with Obdia as a starter. There it means more four minutes for their best defenders in Abdia and to Moni Kamara. Abdiya has been awesome on the offensive end as well, driving all the time. He's generating free throws right now, like Schego, just Alexander, like Janna Sante to Kumpo. I think those are the only two guys that have more free throws than Denny in the past.
00:21:16
Speaker 1: Like two weeks.
00:21:16
Speaker 6: Nonetheless, yeah, I'm staying more minutes for their best defenders like Kamara. I think part of the reason the Booker missed the free throws to tie the game at the end was that he had barely touched the ball in fourth quarter in overtime because Kamara was all over him. They split up Simon's in Sharp, which is huge because you can't survive having both those guys on the cart court right now, especially Jeremy Grant. He's not really much of a defender now anyways, So they had a lot of guys you could go for in the games that Abdias started their second defense. Tiny sample size, but if you go back to January first, that's eighteen games.
00:21:46
Speaker 1: They're ninth in defense.
00:21:47
Speaker 6: They have a little bit of an identity right now, which I don't think you can say for the Blazers at all during the Chauncey Billips tenure.
00:21:54
Speaker 1: They're looking okay right now.
00:21:55
Speaker 6: And the second thing, Scoot's hoopin. Scoot's playing pretty well. Fifteen points a couple of three, six assists, and two turnovers last night. That's his averages since the calendar year started in twenty twenty five, shooting forty eight percent from the field, forty two percent from three, taking.
00:22:09
Speaker 1: Almost five a game. He turned twenty one last night.
00:22:12
Speaker 6: He played in goggles all last season because he didn't know he needed glasses.
00:22:17
Speaker 1: It ain't over for Scoot Henderson, is all I'm saying.
00:22:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, they have a different team because he's comfortable coming off the bench even and he looks good. There's a bunch of guys that look good. For them to be twenty one and twenty nine is a heck of an accomplishment. As weird as that sounds, that's as many victories as they had last year they were twenty one and sixty one, so kudos to them. Yeah, Danny avdya Is he looks like a great complimentary player for a very very good team. And they just need to get better a little bit more, you know, across the board, that's for sure. But they do have a great defensive player. And to mighty Kamara deandret and against his old team is going to have a good game, There's no doubt about that. He was playing in overtime against roy O'Neil. The Nick Richards experiment is not going well. Nick Richard's played in this game. He sat in overtime, he had he was a minus sixteen in his limited minutes he started this game, but they didn't play him in overtime because the experiment just ain't going that well. He gets killed in space, that's what's gonna happen, and the Sons are trying to find something and it was cool how they got to overtime. Even forty seconds left. Kevin Durant blocks a three point shot from Jeremy Grant. That's a beautiful block, but somehow Jeremy Grant just grabs it and goes and dunks it. It's just a bad bounce for them. But Booker makes an extra pass to Royce O'Neill for the time, he.
00:23:41
Speaker 5: Could have got a better even look from roy O'Neil.
00:23:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, in the night he became the franchise leader for sure. And then triple b a Bradley Beal block. You don't see that very often. But then they go to overtime and yeah, downdray and very good against literally against Royce O'Neil.
00:23:57
Speaker 1: I mean that's should he probably should. Hey, he took six free throws in overtime. That's like two weeks of games.
00:24:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah against the old team, and he's gonna have his best game, that's for sure. Twenty five twenty only the fifth player this season with the twenty five to twenty. The other ones are just awesome.
00:24:12
Speaker 4: I mean, yo, kitch a hundred times because.
00:24:14
Speaker 2: Probably one and six No, yes, surprisingly Sabonis yet and two others.
00:24:21
Speaker 5: Rudy no Towns yeah, yes, yeah.
00:24:24
Speaker 2: And one more he was involved in a big trade, not Luca no the guy.
00:24:31
Speaker 1: Yeah he said his last game yet, Well, I had what forty two twenty three?
00:24:34
Speaker 2: I think? Yeah?
00:24:34
Speaker 4: No, eight, Wow, joined you can.
00:24:37
Speaker 1: See why he went number one.
00:24:40
Speaker 5: It's the funny part is like you do see it every once in a while, like damn, this guy's amazing, and then you're like it's gone.
00:24:46
Speaker 6: And then you're also like, should the Sons have just kept him into Mani Kamara?
00:24:50
Speaker 5: Well, yeah, yeah, they should have. Yes, they should have to money come.
00:24:54
Speaker 4: Oh my god.
00:24:54
Speaker 5: I love the like he's becoming like the three and D guy because he's hitting threes too.
00:24:58
Speaker 4: He had five last night.
00:25:00
Speaker 5: If you look back over the last little while, he's had other games where he hit he went five for five in a game from deep. He's had another one where we went four. Got up a lot of attempts in that one. But like he's generally chipping in you know, two or three as I think he's like a thirty six percent three point shooter. But that's awesome when you pair it with the defense, because he's got to be able to like knock those down.
00:25:16
Speaker 2: So he's gonna have a great Rising Stars game, you think, so why not lockdown?
00:25:23
Speaker 1: The thing is pretty impressive though, I guess twenty eight years old.
00:25:25
Speaker 6: Oh I know, he's first in points and only seventh in games for the Phoenix Suns.
00:25:30
Speaker 4: A lot wait, that doesn't It doesn't really make sense to me.
00:25:32
Speaker 6: But then I'm like, Okay, best player they've ever had Steve Nash, not a huge scorer, right, and he was more of a passer. Next best player they had Charles Barkley. He wasn't there for very long. Amari Stodemeier, great scorer but had injury problems. So yeah, Walter Davis, that's a guy I would like to know more about. Yeah, because a Hall of Famer was leading the Suns and scoring for a long long time, like rarely discussed. And then you go to his basketball reference page, awesome nicknames, Walt Greyhound. Then it gets sexy Sweet D, candy Man, the man with the velvet touch. Jesus, what does this guy doing. I'm going to research Walter Davis on Valentine's Day, That's all I'm saying.
00:26:11
Speaker 5: He was. He's like a six time All Star, right, Yeah, like decent amount of accolades for sure, But I'm with you, like nobody talks about Arthur Davis outside of I guess Phoenix Suns fans.
00:26:19
Speaker 1: Sweet D.
00:26:20
Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, so congrats to the Booker there, but congrats to the Blazers on the wind any other takeaways from Monday's NBA slate to a lot of other games.
00:26:27
Speaker 2: Well, I will say Trey Murphy's had back to back forty point games for the Pelicans. If there is anything positive, it's that this guy has grown and grown a lot in this season, maybe grown into a number one or two guy as an experiment, which could be what the Pelicans are looking at in the future. Besides that, and the Pacers won an ugly game that doesn't happen very often. First game they've won this season shooting under twenty five percent from three, So that wasn't good. They're twelve to two in their last fourteen. They've locked themselves into fourth in the East because the Bucks right behind them lost. They lost their fourth in a row. They've got no defense during this losing streak. They've allowed over one hundred and twenty five in every game of the losing streak. And it's not because they had no one. They literally were playing no one against Okay, see, they weren't playing Yannis, they weren't playing Lillard, they weren't playing Brook.
00:27:18
Speaker 4: So how are they supposed to do this acide on a schedule loss here?
00:27:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, they were doing it. I guess so yeah, I mean Trey said it yesterday. You're going to see a lot of different lineups here leading into the trade deadlines. So I started thinking, is this gonna happen? They absolutely can't trade anybody because they're so top heavy that if they trade multiple guys for one guy, like if they trade for a Jimmy Butler or whoever they're looking for, I just think they get so much weaker during this streak. Bobby Portis has missed the entire streak, and I know it's just Bobby Portis, but it hurts. It just hurts not having him out there. And so I don't think they make a move here in the next couple days. And there looks like they're going to be locked into fifth and gonna be going on the road again into Indiana like they did last year. Hold on, they played last year in the playoffs. But the home team was it Pacers, right, I can't remember?
00:28:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah that game last night in Oklahoma. I mean, it's insane. Who was playing in this game? The Thunder one one ninety six. The Thunder scored nine points in the fourth quarter because they were up by a million, and then obviously didn't really matter how how well they played or not in the fourth quarter. But we had for the Bucks. We got starters Chris Livingston, Ryan Rollins. These are guys. These are NBA guys. They started from Milwaukee last night, and then you had on the thunder bench because it turned into garbage time. You know Alex Ducas, Bob Ducas's brother, he's got hot tub foot. Adam Flagler, We've talked about him. Dylan Jones is the guy playing in this game. I mean, it's it's wild when you look at.
00:29:01
Speaker 4: This box score.
00:29:02
Speaker 6: I'll be honest, I didn't watch this one skates and I'm kind of interested to seeing what was going on with Adam Flagler in the fourth quarter, played the entire fourth went one for eleven, yeah, oh eight from deep What was he doing?
00:29:15
Speaker 2: I was watching this game at the beginning and the starting lineup comes up for the Bucks, and I thought, Okay, this is a malfunctioning. Somebody messed up in the control room. No, glad, I picked them for their ten and a half. They're getting ten and a half points. They did not cover.
00:29:29
Speaker 5: Any other games you wanted to address here from last night.
00:29:32
Speaker 6: I thought a clutch tank loss from the Utah Jazz. They were up eight with about five minutes left and they just completely stopped scoring and Siakam was giving it to him. On the other end, he's making us look good for having him as an All Star. Ten points in the fourth quarter in that one. You mentioned Trey Murphy. These guys on a heater right now. That'll pay dividends in the second or in next season at the very least. And the Wizards they won back to back games now for the second time this season.
00:29:54
Speaker 4: Yes, that's right.
00:29:54
Speaker 5: The Wizard's up to I believe, eight wins now on the season, so you know, like gonna be fear of them, like having the worst record full time, because it sort of was like a little in play there when they only had six wins basically after fifty or so games.
00:30:10
Speaker 4: So they're they're gonna be Okay.
00:30:12
Speaker 2: Three of their eight wins are against the Charlotte Hornets.
00:30:15
Speaker 5: Okay, good for them, three of them, and then two against the Hawks.
00:30:19
Speaker 1: That's awesome. Actually, I don't know. They want to definitely beat the Hawks.
00:30:23
Speaker 4: I didn't know the Hornets three times.
00:30:25
Speaker 5: Good for them.
00:30:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, they beat the I just saw they beat the Hornets every year. A lot, but yes, two against the Hawks they gave.
00:30:32
Speaker 1: That's a rivalry gave.
00:30:34
Speaker 5: Let's get into some slop talk, some news. This one big Yesterday, according to Jake Fisher, the Golden State Warriors are exploring the possibility of trading for Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns. That's right, reunited potentially can they do it? What were your reaction and what do you think even the likelihood of this happening is tk?
00:30:58
Speaker 1: Well, I mean it's the Warriors, so I ain't gonna hap.
00:31:01
Speaker 6: How many players have they been involved in here so that they can show to their fans we're trying.
00:31:06
Speaker 1: We're trying.
00:31:07
Speaker 6: Trades are hard. That's the go to motto for the Golden State Warriors. Front offers Anthony Slater reported yesterday basically saying that they're desperate. Sham's was saying they've called on every All star in the league. I looked up, that's sixty seven players. I think they called on Isaiah Thomas. I know he's in the G League, but he's an All Star. He might actually help this team. YEA, a guy who can score with the ball in his hands. But it does make me think, is there a world where Kevin Durant is a little bit available right now because you're seeing some of that reporting as well that if the Bradley Beal Jimmy Butler thing doesn't get done, if Beal won't wave his no trade clause, how long is Kevin Durant gonna want to stick around there? It's a guy that you can believe would want to leave a team, I think, And you know it's like, why would the thunder do that move yesterday? Why would the Rockets get all those future sons picks during the summer? Is Kevin Durant in play?
00:32:01
Speaker 5: He hasn't seen a contract extension beyond next season. That does give him a little bit of a control, I guess about his future. If he wants to be rerouted somewhere, Phoenix wouldn't maintain a very high asking price, I believe for Kevin Durant. So you know, you're looking at draft capital, you're looking at young players. If there's a Warrior's Sun hypothetical where Katie comes, I assume someone like Jonathan Kaminga has to be involved in this deal.
00:32:26
Speaker 4: But yeah, what do you think is this.
00:32:28
Speaker 1: Likely at all?
00:32:30
Speaker 5: It's just great slop here from Fisher.
00:32:34
Speaker 2: It would take two things. It would take the son saying we're not trying to anymore. They go from going for Jimmy Butler too, all right, we're giving up essentially if they're trying to give out Kevin Durant. And it would also take Kevin Durant saying happy to go back to the Golden State Warriors, which I think there's a tiny, teeny tiny part of him that isn't too proud to do not do it because it would just be man, I went there wasn't the number one guy, but I'm comfortable doing it again. I ain't winning here. And if you're if you're the Warriors, you got to say, yeah. I think they would give up Jonathan Kaminga for a couple great years of Kevin Durant, at least probably three great years including this one, you know, two and a half full years of Kevin Durant. Yeah, they would do it in a heartbeat, especially we get this combined rumor with the Schams Serian your rumor saying that they are calling everybody. My only question is would they be calling for Paul George Now they try to get him in the off season, but would they be calling to go get him now under a four year contract where he hasn't played all that well. I would say no, even though they've called for every All.
00:33:45
Speaker 6: Star, every All Star, a star on the phone for DeAndre Jordan, DeAndre, come on, DeAndre?
00:33:51
Speaker 5: Technicality? Does every all Star mean current All Star or was ever an All Star?
00:33:57
Speaker 2: Question? Ken Simmons bad was an All Star last year and they were rumored to be wanting him in the off season. George said they were coming at me, and now he goes and signs a four year max. I do not think that they would go get him, do you guys? Do you guys think that there's a line in the All Star list that they're looking at.
00:34:18
Speaker 5: It does feel like maybe Warriors ownership sees what goes down over the last forty eight hours or so and goes, holy crap, Luca going to the Lakers, Okay, Fox getting moves Zac Lavine, you know, a name that they were sort of tied to, gets moved to Sacramento. And maybe they're like, hey, Mike, what are you doing? Are you even calling anyone? You know?
00:34:38
Speaker 4: I get to get working the horns, man, and then we get like this, oh we're calling everybody.
00:34:42
Speaker 5: Suddenly feels honestly, it feels like there's a part of that that's happening here.
00:34:46
Speaker 4: It's like, well, what are we doing?
00:34:48
Speaker 6: Two timeliness have the perfect two timeline.
00:34:51
Speaker 1: They actually have a star for the next one.
00:34:53
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:34:53
Speaker 5: But Anthony Slater ended his article yesterday for The Athletic writing that the Warriors have maintained a willingness to take they're star hunting to the summer if necessary. But Steph Curry's basketball clock is ticking. He turns thirty seven next month, and all stars are flying around the trade market as a greater rate than expected this week end quote they're from Slater, So yeah, they should be working. I mean we've been saying this for months. I mean I've definitely been like saying, what are you doing, Warriors? I think you're blowing this and you're like, really should be leaning into give Curry a chance basically for a year or two here, and that involves moving some of these younger pieces and whatever draft capital to make it happen to get a star guy who that is Jimmy, Kevin Paul.
00:35:40
Speaker 2: The West became a tiny bit more open yesterday, with Dallas saying I don't know if we're going to get there. We're moving from Luka Dancic, So I think that opens things, But does it open up matt Ishbia's new vision here? That's the thing. It's up to matt Ishbia saying we're not going for it for whatever reason. While the West seems to be opened a little bit. They just freaking went for it with Bradley Beal and not just but I mean they did try and make a Nick Richards move, so they would be totally doing a oneint eighty to try and get out of this.
00:36:15
Speaker 5: Here's one guy who will not be available to the Golden State Warriors. Nuggets coach Michael Malone quieted rumors that Michael Porter Junior could be dealt this week. They had a big win over the Pels. He played great, MPJ did, and they said, we're not trading Michael Porter. Okay, that's the quote, pretty damn clear. He says we're not trading him. And a lot of people thinking if the Nuggets were gonna make a move, you know, they don't have a lot of like salaries, like bigger salaries that you would have to move to get another sort of star quality player back. So MPG obviously has a big deal.
00:36:47
Speaker 4: But they're saying, no, he's a.
00:36:49
Speaker 5: Key part to our success here, has been and continue to be.
00:36:52
Speaker 1: Michael Porter Junior. I don't think has turned out what the Nuggets thought he was gonna be.
00:36:56
Speaker 6: Hasn't become a guy who scores a ton with the ball in his hands. But good luck somebody who's six foot ten that shoots fifty from the field forty from three on sixty three point attempts. Also, he's played every game this season for the Denver Nuggets. That being said, it's smokescreen season. You can't believe a word any of these people are saying. Mike Malone even hedged his own self talking about this when he said, no, because we're not trading Michael Porter.
00:37:17
Speaker 1: So I'm not touching base with anybody on that.
00:37:19
Speaker 6: And if there's something coming, obviously Calvin Booth will talk with me and I'm sure we'll communicate with whatever players.
00:37:25
Speaker 1: So he's literally saying.
00:37:25
Speaker 6: We're not trading him, but if we're trading him, things will change. I think it's more likely that it happens in the summer or at some point during the future. He's owed eighty million dollars over the next two seasons he does make sense as the contract that they would most likely want to move with his age and how much he makes, and obviously Jamal Murray is ahead of him in the pecking order. They're gonna keep yokichin and Murray together ahead of keeping Jokich and Michael.
00:37:48
Speaker 1: Porter Junior together.
00:37:49
Speaker 6: I don't think it'll happen during this season, but it wouldn't surprise me if Porter's moved at some point on this contract.
00:37:57
Speaker 2: I love rumors, I absolutely adore them, but I'm not reading into this one either. I just don't think the way their offense works, they need a guy number one who can shoot the three, but it's also just running plays on the perimeter. You see Russell and you see Christian Brown and their back door cuts and shooting from the corners. They need somebody up top to work with not only Jokic but Jamal Murray a little bit. I mean the dribble handoffs from Jokic to Michael Porter Jr. They're lethal, and that is part of their offense. And I just don't think that they would try and do something now after they gave up essentially last year by giving away Bruce Brown and now going into this KCP. I shouldn't say gave up, but they gave up their old chemistry, the one that won the title. So I don't think they do it right here right now. He's been really solid for them, and just to throw something in like that, now, throw that wrench in right here before the playoffs, when the West does seem open, it would seem like the wrong thing to do. Although financially, as Trey said, yes, and that makes sense at some point, but I mean, Bruce Brown bye bye, Kentavis Calledbell Pope bye bye. To do it again, that just means third they ain't winning, you would feel like.
00:39:09
Speaker 5: To me, this just feels like a coach trying to keep the confidence of his you know, youngish player high here who's rolling right now. Hey, yeah, your name's in all these trade rumors. But squash it. Don't worry. We're not trading. I'm not trading at the very least, is what he's sort of saying. I believe in you. You're important, you have been, you will be, and like keep that sort of flow going. But yeah, will he finish his entire either contract or career with.
00:39:32
Speaker 4: The Denver Nuggets.
00:39:32
Speaker 5: Unlikely, but sure right now before the deadline.
00:39:35
Speaker 4: I think they will probably stick with him.
00:39:37
Speaker 6: They were a fourth quarter away from making it back to the conference finals last season, so the KCP thing happened. The Nuggets made the right call on that. He hasn't been very good for the Magic. Christian Brown has been awesome. Westbrook has been a steal for them this season, so I imagine they will try it again. If they fall short again this year, that's when I think they really start thinking about giving Michael Porter junior, just because how many other ways are there to improve this team. They still pick to the Magic for the Aaron Gordon trade. Aaron Gordon's not going anywhere. They just signed him, so I think that we'll see how the playoffs go.
00:40:09
Speaker 5: All right, More reporting around the Mavericks decision to trade Luka Doncic. It's spilled out over the last couple of days here since that deal broke. Now the two main stories. You got one on ESPN from Ramona Shelburne and Tim McMahon. That one titled unfathomable how this stunning Luca ad trade came together? And then we got one from the athletics powerhouse trio of Fred Katz, Joe Varden and sam Amic writing about the top secret trade negotiations that made Luca get to the Lakers. So, I guess my question for you guys, you've read both of these, what was your biggest takeaway from now these you know, sort of detailed reporting here from ESPN and The Athletic when it comes to the Luca ad trade and how it came about.
00:40:51
Speaker 2: Well, the first thing is, I'm not a fan of this slow drip coffee idea that takes eight hours to drip.
00:40:58
Speaker 1: I've tried it, that n coffee.
00:41:01
Speaker 2: Well, the yeah, the the inclusion of that little nitro, Yeah, it sounds cool.
00:41:05
Speaker 1: But it doesn't really do it.
00:41:07
Speaker 5: Article.
00:41:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Ramona Shelburne Boss.
00:41:10
Speaker 5: It's a great setting, the scene of the coffee house where the now infamous I guess, first meeting between Polinka and Nico Harrison went down to start spitball in this trade.
00:41:19
Speaker 2: Yes, I've never been to that coffee shop, but I have had a extreme slow drip Dutch coffee. It's just a coffee.
00:41:27
Speaker 4: It takes eight hours to brew.
00:41:28
Speaker 2: We've had better with our man Marty at Broadsheet Coffee and.
00:41:33
Speaker 1: A roasts a great bean.
00:41:35
Speaker 2: It does taste like a great bean. That's brewed immediately and it's good anyway. What this piece said to me was, especially the ESPN one, was a lot about the chemistry that Luka Doncic lacks in creating in a locker room. So there's a lot about his work ethic, but it's also just about it ain't fun.
00:41:56
Speaker 4: To his personality.
00:41:58
Speaker 5: Culture.
00:41:59
Speaker 2: The culture kept being sent a million times by Nico'snicos. I don't know if it was number one word, but it was high on. There a lot of culture talk, and so I don't know's it's being it's like a spider vib here, It's it's being thrown out multiple ways. He's overweight and doesn't want to work all that hard. The lack of culture is there, the lack of defense is there. So those are the things that are sticking out right here right now to seemingly create this reason for not wanting Luka Tancic around.
00:42:33
Speaker 6: Yeah, they're going hard on the conditioning, I think is basically the smear tactic here from the Dallas Mavericks. But also I think Luca played the most combined minutes of anybody in the season last year, including the playoffs, when he led the entire playoffs and points, rebounds, assystem steals, So maybe work on his conditioning. Get that's something you're really working about, which makes you think maybe it's something else. And it kind of feels like Nico Harrison maybe just didn't like Luka Dancic right like to trade a Dorian Finney, Smith's best friend included Maxi Cleeban this trade. They mentioned how they fired like every coach he liked, all the trainers he liked, had to hire new trainers as well. At one point, they have a quote from Lucas saying they get rid of everybody I like. It just seems like they made it untenable for Luca to want to stay around. Maybe he hadn't requested a trade, Maybe he hadn't said anything about not wanting to sign the Supermax. You know, Nico talked about a tumultuous offseason coming for the Mavericks in summer twenty twenty five, so there just must have been a lot of tension, and maybe it comes from Harrison just not liking the way Luca carries himself.
00:43:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, which is interesting.
00:43:40
Speaker 6: It's usually players went out, especially players of this stature, but the Mavericks are back in Nico Harrison.
00:43:48
Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a quote from Harrison that says there's other teams that were loading up to acquire Luca as a free agent. He was going to have to make his own decision at some point of whether he wants to be here or not, whether we want to supermax him or not, or whether he wants to opt out. Yeah, he keeps bringing up this idea, like and it's like they sort of like go hand in hand. It feels like it's like, well, he doesn't like me, I don't really like him, Therefore I'm worried about first off, handing him a super max contract in us continuing our relationship, or him hating me so much that he's like I don't want to be here because I hate you and I want out of here. Like so, like we'll get ahead of it and we'll just train him before that. Again, if that's what went down, if that's like this like conflict of like relationship and they butt heads, okay, strange. You can't get over that, Especially from Lucas side of things. That hasn't been like I want out of here. We haven't heard any of that. They're not saying that either, but it's just so odd still that you've just decided to talk to Rob Polinka and the Lakers. I can't get over that part because they did not enter deep negotiations with any other team. I know there's one other team that they saw to kick the tires on, but like they didn't and he said, or this is from the ESPN article. Well, Harrison decided early on team sources said that the best way to trade a player of Luca Doncich's caliber was to pick the trade that he wanted Nico Harrison, rather than open up the process to avoid Luca and his agent exerting their own leverage. It would also avoid the crippling fan backlash that might influence the deal. This is when we were reacting on the emergency podcast and we were trying to figure out what the hell's going on here?
00:45:26
Speaker 4: Why'd they do it this way? I brought that up.
00:45:28
Speaker 5: I said, A part of this feels like he wanted to do this like secretly, because you're gonna trade Luca. And otherwise you had said we're gonna trade Luca auction, let's go get your best deals in like the backlash would have been insane. It still is, by the way, but it would have been nuts and I felt like a part of this is why they did that sort of in the shadows here, because he's got his tail between his legs a little bit, because he knows how insane it is what he's doing trading Luca to Yeah.
00:45:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good point and it reminds me, and it was gone through in the ESPN article how this has happened before, where these trades that are on the burner, they're gonna happen, but they take some time end up being raugh for everybody involved. I remember the Anthony Davis deal from New Orleans to the Lakers, when he said I want to be dealt to the Lakers, and it took them. I guess it was like six weeks. I don't know.
00:46:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, but guess why they got a better deal they did.
00:46:20
Speaker 2: They did. They just got more than one pick and Anthony Davis. And unfortunately, I initially thought that it must mean Luca's leaving, but that has definitely not been confirmed. And he was just purchasing a fifteen million dollar home according to all reports at real reports that he wanted in Dallas. Now, I think Nico Harrison should have just gone to the real estate agent said, you know, slow this flow. No, I guess he would be giving it away if he did that. He can't give it away. But he's saying all the things that he wants in number one, a guy in the locker room. Number two on the floor when he says defense matters are archetypes of players, and then you you take a step back and you say basketball is as simple as a guy who leads your team to the finals. And the articles also says he gets quotes from people like, Okay, this guy was averaging twenty seven and nine and nine and leading us to the finals. And so there's obviously a lot of layers, and we've said how much is this guy going to be the same guy in three or four years? I suppose because it's also a Nico Arrison said, we're not making this straight just for now, but for the future, which is hard to believe when you got older.
00:47:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, you like, well, your star player being another mid thirty something guy instead of Luca in his mid twenties. One thing too, like Nico Harrison's news conference press conference when he praised Rob Polenka's ability to keep the talks quiet even though they had been going on for weeks. What, of course, Rob Polinka is going to keep it quiet, like he's not that stupid, Like yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll just talk just with you about getting Luka Dancic. Yeah, I won't broadcast this to Shams or any other reporters. Yeah, no problem, man, we keep this under wraps. Like what is he talking about?
00:48:10
Speaker 4: Nico Harrison Like he was like, that's my guy, that's my buddy.
00:48:13
Speaker 5: Man.
00:48:13
Speaker 4: He kept this quiet.
00:48:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, really helped us out.
00:48:16
Speaker 5: Yeah, insanity. We did nothing for him, just insane.
00:48:21
Speaker 4: But recommend you go read both these articles.
00:48:23
Speaker 6: I do love the detail of Danny Ainge getting involved.
00:48:26
Speaker 1: He's like, oh, you.
00:48:27
Speaker 6: Got some second round draft picks I'll get in this trade, only to then find out it's the Lakers getting Luka Dojo.
00:48:32
Speaker 1: TI must have been the year. That's really fun. It was pretty funny, great curve ball.
00:48:38
Speaker 6: And I was just left wondering, Like when you hear conditioning problems, it's always big guys. It's like like Yokich. People had questions about his conditioning before. Honestly, before the bubble, he came back in great shape and turned into a top ten all time player.
00:48:52
Speaker 1: Joel Embiid is a guy.
00:48:52
Speaker 6: With conditioning issues. DeMarcus Cousins at one point, Shack is obviously a huge one. I mean, Barkley to some ex sense, Okay, maybe Barkley is like the closest to Luca dont because that's rare to find perimeter guys. I tweeted it yesterday and people are like, Kyle Lowry fair, I think that's a fair one, like Boris Diaal And then people are like klidel a mean, I was like, okay, yes, yeah, that was a problem for sure, but not quite on the same level.
00:49:16
Speaker 1: But it's pretty rare for guards to get called out like that.
00:49:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good call, and that's why people say, hey, twenty eight nine and nine, I just upped his point per game. I think I think that was the right number whatever it was quoted at, But twenty eight nine and nine, you just you can't replicate that.
00:49:32
Speaker 4: So yeah, I.
00:49:33
Speaker 2: Don't see how. I just don't see the physical projection of how this isn't going to work out In several years, maybe Nico knows more, but he will be playing beside Lebron James again, and maybe Lebron can help him in that in getting him set on his body a little bit more. Yeah, it's it's hard.
00:49:53
Speaker 5: It's hard to that's the that's the fear for the rest of the league. Yeah, exactly that that, Oh my god, that this will be the thing that like some how he goes even crazier despite being already one of the greatest players at least of his generation here at being so young too. So we'll see go read those articles. Final one here, we've got trio of Basketball Hall of Famers. That are the four coaches who will serve as honorary head coaches for the Castrol Rising Stars. Yes, Castrol Room room, baby, that's oil, right, I think so.
00:50:22
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:50:22
Speaker 5: I don't know a lot about cars, but I believe it is Tim Hardaway, Senior, Chris Mullen, Mitch Richmond, all former Golden State Warriors. Yeah, Team T, Team M, Team C. They're gonna serve as honorary coaches. And we got former NBA player and Warriors guard Jeremy Lynn as the fourth head coach.
00:50:39
Speaker 4: There were for a team G league. Cool you guys, Okay, you like this?
00:50:43
Speaker 2: Then get yeah.
00:50:45
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:50:45
Speaker 2: At first I laughed at Team T, Team M, Team C. Why would you name them that? Obviously it's the Warriors TMC.
00:50:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, run TOC and I thought, you know, it's.
00:50:53
Speaker 2: Better than previous iterations of this Rising stars. Do you really remember those the coaches, we all went through them. This is you know, for the whole.
00:51:01
Speaker 4: Like Powdersoul has done it a lot.
00:51:03
Speaker 5: Jalen Rose, I guess has done it a lot.
00:51:05
Speaker 1: They have Debt left Shrimp last year.
00:51:06
Speaker 4: Yes he was there.
00:51:08
Speaker 2: We had Darren Williams. Yeah in Indiana area.
00:51:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, so this is that's some real sicko behavior.
00:51:16
Speaker 5: Yes, seaming the honorary coaches lost Stars games.
00:51:21
Speaker 2: Noah, Yes, beasted it good. But anyways, it's good for the hometown to have the TMC. Sure flashbacks.
00:51:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, it could be some you know, some gently ripping between the old guys there, the coaches, right, yeah, you might come up and have that.
00:51:37
Speaker 6: Chris Mullen, I think is a known trash talker. I like that these guys still look the same as they did and they played for the War, which they all got their same haircuts, right, Tim and Mitch they shaved their heads, and Chris is sticking with the flatsop.
00:51:48
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:51:48
Speaker 1: Crazy.
00:51:50
Speaker 6: So twenty twenty six we're gonna be plug The All Star Game will be in Los Angeles.
00:51:55
Speaker 5: Who are going to be the honorary coaches in the Los Angeles pretty back in them.
00:51:59
Speaker 1: But it's Clippers into it though.
00:52:03
Speaker 5: Wow, give me a Lloyd bought bring back Lloyd?
00:52:08
Speaker 1: Why not?
00:52:08
Speaker 2: Blake Griffin could be, especially since he's gonna be on what is the Amazon or Peacock?
00:52:15
Speaker 1: I don't remember one of them?
00:52:17
Speaker 4: Would it? Would Brent Barry do it?
00:52:20
Speaker 1: It's not bad.
00:52:21
Speaker 4: Rick Barry's done it, has done it? Yes? Yeah?
00:52:26
Speaker 5: Who else?
00:52:28
Speaker 6: Chris Cayman, Chris can lie down, Chris.
00:52:34
Speaker 4: All right, those are some suggestions.
00:52:36
Speaker 1: Let us know Darius.
00:52:39
Speaker 6: Darius, Miles Richards as well for sure.
00:52:43
Speaker 1: Okay, I like that.
00:52:44
Speaker 4: That's good.
00:52:44
Speaker 5: That's a good call. We just gonna find the other two and like that start. Yeah, Blake, I think that's the story right there.
00:52:49
Speaker 4: And we just need the fourth. We need a G League Clipper.
00:52:51
Speaker 6: Guy, Mike Taylor first player ever drafted from the G League into the NBA.
00:52:56
Speaker 1: Jesus, I think that's true.
00:52:58
Speaker 4: Okay, Well, let's honor room check the facts, all.
00:53:00
Speaker 2: Right, Jamal Crawford will be used.
00:53:02
Speaker 1: Oh that's a good one.
00:53:03
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's we probably just named the four.
00:53:05
Speaker 5: Honestly, if they go Miles in q rich some unfortunate news we will not be doing a live show in San Francisco after all. I know, I know, I told you on Friday, get ready, tickets are coming here we go. Some unfortunate circumstances are not going to allow us to get there to San France to do the live show. So apologies if you are planning on joining us on February fourteenth. We were going to exchange Valentine's and then it was going to be great. It won't be happening this year, so sorry, But don't you worry. We got some fun things in store for our All Star weekend coverage from.
00:53:38
Speaker 4: Here in Atlanta.
00:53:39
Speaker 2: Maybe better, maybe better, well better than a live show.
00:53:43
Speaker 5: You want to do a live show here in the Classic Factory, Yeah, let's open up the garage doors, pile them in here.
00:53:48
Speaker 1: You want to have our own dunk contest? Come over to my house?
00:53:51
Speaker 4: Lowder the rim o' gay, always careful.
00:53:54
Speaker 1: We got a slanty driveway.
00:53:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, dangerous on the ankles, but and would like if you dunked on your like, would you tear it down? Like if you really hung on the net, like it's not.
00:54:04
Speaker 6: Find you know, it was very very sturdy until my dad accidentally backed over the water reservoir, completely emptying it.
00:54:12
Speaker 1: Now I got sand bags on top. Thanks Dad.
00:54:14
Speaker 5: Oh geez oh, he like cracked the water reservoir for Yeah, it's got a hole in it.
00:54:21
Speaker 4: So yeah, it's definitely not holding us on duncan On.
00:54:23
Speaker 1: It hasn't fallen in over a year.
00:54:26
Speaker 5: Let's risk it, all right, Well, maybe we'll do that overall Star weekend. Bring back the dunk contest that we used to do. All right, let's get to a pick them for tonight. Last night a lot of us took the Thunder. We said that might be a schedule victory.
00:54:40
Speaker 4: We were right.
00:54:40
Speaker 5: They easily covered the ten and a half task you had the bucks, So you're oh in one here in.
00:54:44
Speaker 2: February, definitely, I was excited about the Lakers going to visit the Clippers or is Luca debuting, although that is highly highly highly unlikely. So I went with just another doozy Boston in Cleveland, one two here in the Eastern Conference Cleveland. Basically, I pick them, They're a favored by one and a half. I was surprised that two of us picked Cleveland seats and I and two picked Boston train ash.
00:55:10
Speaker 5: Okay, we're split splitz is the are those the TNT games tonight? Then Boston Cleveland, and then Clips Lakes.
00:55:16
Speaker 2: This one Cleveland Boston is definitely TNT.
00:55:18
Speaker 4: I would think the other one is when you would think, yes, yeah it is.
00:55:21
Speaker 5: That's pretty tasty, pretty tasty for Tuesday night. All right, so we're split one and a half, Cleveland as the favorites.
00:55:28
Speaker 4: There, let's call it there. Thanks for joining us again. Hit the light button subscribe.
00:55:32
Speaker 5: We gotta get off the air because you never know when we're gonna have to do an emergency podcast.
00:55:35
Speaker 4: That's how we have to live this week.
00:55:38
Speaker 5: You know, he's got to be always ready, always available.
00:55:40
Speaker 6: Do you think we'll get another one before actual Thursday trade deadline day?
00:55:45
Speaker 5: Nora asked me that today, like, are you gonna get another big trade?
00:55:47
Speaker 4: And I was like, I don't think so. Until the deadline.
00:55:50
Speaker 5: I agree, like, if Jimmy Butler is traded, maybe Fucevich. I mean, well, this kad one's obviously interesting.
00:55:57
Speaker 4: If that happens, that's huge, But yeah, no, I don't.
00:56:00
Speaker 5: I think if we get on it happens on the Thursday pass.
00:56:05
Speaker 2: I don't have one. I don't have one that I know is happening. Beforehand.
00:56:09
Speaker 5: Okay, well we're gonna be here obviously tomorrow. We'll be here on Thursday morning, and then we plan on going live for the deadline again on Thursday in the afternoon around two or three pm Eastern, probably building up to the actual deadline, so two pm Eastern, let's call it. So two shows on Thursday, done to drop on Friday. So lots of No Dunk's content come in your way. Tell then Clipper bros.
00:56:30
Speaker 1: You heard it here first. Have a great time, turn up. Love you guys, awesome.
00:56:34
Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us. And remember the best quote I think from the Luca Doncic trade was from Anthony Edwards. He said, quote, I'm scared, Tim, if you're gonna trade me, let me know.
00:56:45
Speaker 5: Doug.
00:56:47
Speaker 4: Praise today people,
