angel holmes: Welcome to Never Stop Dream Biggie Podcast. I'm your host, Angel Holmes, and we are back in Charleston. I'm back in Charleston. And I am actually showered and I feel so great, y'all. We just got back from being in Bourbon Beyond Music Festival for four days, camping out in our car. Actually, it was a tent, but with our car, and listening to some amazing music. And I'm so excited because next week's episode with Brian, our monthly episode. We are actually live from Bourbon and Beyond. We have recorded a few episodes from there and sharing what we loved about it and all of our highlights and everything. So you'll have to listen next week to that episode. This is our third year going and it was super just amazing to be back. I was a little nervous because if you have listened to the podcast or if you followed me for a while, we went for two years and the last year we went, They oversold the show the show, we think by about a hundred thousand people. Their ticket reseller went bankrupt the week of. So I think they just oversold it and it was massively packed. And it was Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, all kinds of huge names and lots and lots of people. There were so many times during that show that musicians were stopping for emergency services. And so It was crazy. And I was also very claustrophobic and had a whole episode. leaving the festival that year two years ago, I had a serious depression about come up on me. And it was bad. I mean, it was just not a good one. And I will proudly say that it's been since that festival two years ago where I had that kind of situation, which is so exciting. And I'm so proud of that. But then going back this year, they did such a great job. They have a new venue, a new layout, the same place, but they moved it across the street and really used the space nicely. We got in as a camper, you can get in really close to the venue. You can go in and out of the venue. And we just knew how to do it right. So we're gonna be sharing more about that next week. I won't be talking about that today. But I am excited to be talking about something today that I have been talking about. Here and there on this podcast, but I'm fully, fully going for it, guys. And as you know, I I fully go for lots of things because I think you have one life, you've been given this opportunity, and God has a purpose for your life that you have to take advantage of. And so many people unfortunately don't because they don't know what that thing is, or they are scared of that thing, or they're scared of failure. There's so many things that that hinder people. And I always say that graveyards are the biggest place for dreams that die that never happen. And I'm not letting that happen. I'm not letting that happen to you. I'm not letting it happen to me. I hope I'm encouraging you. And I hear that a lot from people when we talk about the Homestead Hideaway and the project we're doing in Bequia and the Caribbean, is they're just so encouraged by what we're doing. It's giving them the faith and the excitement and the motivation and inspiration to go after their dreams. Which is so cool. I think that's part of the whole entire journey, the whole entire story. The whole reason why we're doing this is giving people their glimpse of yes, this is possible. Yes, I have this thought in my head and I need to go for it. So that is what I'm here to do. That's what the Biggie podcast is all about. And I'm just glad and very honored that's been part of this whole journey. But this one is a big one because it's a big dream or you know, thing that's been placed in my heart for a long, long, long time. And I keep on saying no. I keep on saying no to it. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. Well, this week when we were away, I got an email from somebody who God had been putting in my head a lot lately, this person who I'm if I'm gonna tell you who it who she is and everything in a minute. But I kept on hearing her name just randomly, like I'll say her name. her name is Lauren Eastman and he would put it in my head, you need to get with Lauren, you need touchbase with Lauren. or I would start seeing Lauren on my LinkedIn profile or in social media or I get an email from her. And I was like, yeah, I really need to touch base with Lauren. okay, so who Lauren is, she's an incredible writer. She has done a a lot of different ghostwriting projects for people where she's helped write their books. And she actually is by trade, she did PR in publicity, which is my background. So we bonded over that when we first met. And she became a brighter side member back in the day when actually I think she was part of Like Minded Charleston. And then she became a brighter side member. And we became really close. And she's a single mom. Just so many things we had in common. Lauren moved back to her area where her family is in Florida and started and launched her new business, Atelier Attache, I think is what it's called. I'm sorry, Lauren. I will link it in here. But she started all this incredible services to help people with their book writing abilities. And so the thing I keep on hearing and keep on saying no to is writing a book. And I just have felt like God is like, this is a piece of this puzzle. That is a big part of the funding for it. Now I have fought this because I don't think you can make a lot of money from books unless you're really, really successful with them. And I think that is a whole entire massive thing that happens to a few and far between. when you look at the statistics about writing books and how many books are published and how many books actually make it, it's really Disheartening to be honest with you. And so the other big thing is writing a book is very costly. It's not something you can just do and be like, here we go. you can do it three different ways. You can have a traditional publisher do it for you, which requires you to get an agent. And often the agent is looking for people with huge social media followers who are celebrities who are gonna sell a lot of books essentially, promoted can promote it well, all of that stuff. But you also have to pay a certain amount typically to these companies to have them, you know, write it, edit it, publish it, put it on bookshelves all around the world, country, whatever that looks like on your end. And that can be, you know, tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. And so that's one way to do it. Or you can do it the self-publishing way, which is you are the one doing everything essentially. You can still hire editors and book cover people and that sort of thing. You can hire somebody like Lauren to do your ghostwriting and maybe editing and whatever else you're needed in that regard. So you're still going to spend some money, but you don't have to spend as much money. But you are the one that's in charge of it all and you have to get this distribution. You have to get it out there and bookshelves and that's a whole thing because a lot of them don't want to take on inventory unless they know they're they're going to sell it. And yeah, you could probably get on Amazon. It's just you're doing the majority of the work and you're probably not going to be making a lot of money and that side of things. However, you do typically keep more of a percentage than you would traditionally, because traditional publishers keep a lot of the money. there is ways to do hybrid, ways to publish hybridly where you do a little mixture of both. And there is a lot of other new companies out there doing. publishing for people. At the end of the day, it's all just really hard and a lot. And why? You know, why are we doing this? Why are we writing this book? So that's my my big thing is I I did a book course, Jess Connolly, a fabulous author. She has a book course she offered to go through all of this to get you motivated to write your book. You did a lot of deep diving of about the, you know, what the focus is and of your outline and and just to get you started with that part because that's the parts that's you have to have a book outline and you write a few chapters and then you start really pitching it out there and seeing if it will be one that will be successful or not. And I I did that a few I think it was like a year ago, a year or two ago. Again, God it he's been putting this in my head for a long, long like for years, anytime I share part of my story or share my motivational you know, things in life or my my tidbits, you know, I share a lot of that with you in some shape or form, or my adventures or whatever that is, people always say to me, you should write a book. I've heard that like over and over a lot of my life. Like when I was really young, people were saying this. And also fun fact is when I was in college, one of my tracks I wanted to do was to write go work for a magazine. I wanted to work for Glamour magazine and I applied for an internship there. I actually got accepted to go do an interview process with them, but it was so expensive to go move to New York and do that and you weren't really paid to do it. My dad was like, I'm not gonna fund that experience. So I just could not make that work. But I did get my bachelor's in journalism with a specialty in PR in marketing. And I st I stuck with the marketing and PR side of things and went that That direction. But I've always written and I was an editor for an online publication a long, long time ago. that was called Daily Meal, where I was our Charleston City editor writing about restaurants. I was the Charleston women managing editor last year and did that for a year and have written a number of articles for different places. I love to write. I've had a blog for a long time. I have started kind of suited the process of writing a book, I started a Substack last year called In the Clouds and started sharing some of the chapters just to get feedback. And everyone who joined that Substack loved it. And so it's just it's been there. And then when I went on my mission trip to Nicaragua, we had to give a testimony and I gave the first kind of part of my life testimony to this group of women. And when I did that, after I did that, the group of women I was with. from the States said to me, That's the first chapter of your book. And I was like, my gosh, this is crazy. And that's actually when I came back from that trip and I kept on seeing clouds everywhere. And it tied back to a story with my childhood with clouds that I was like, my gosh, how cool. And I'm all all I see now is clouds. It's crazy. how cool that'd be if my book was called in the clouds and it was this book that I've been visualizing forever. And so that is kind of how this thing works, guys. you are given a thought or an idea and it keeps on coming up everywhere you are, everywhere you're looking and turning and doing, you're starting to see signs about this this thing. And so the thing I'm talking about today is as the book. Again, it's been coming up in my life for years and years. I mean, guys, so many years. And I keep on saying, yes, I need to write this book. I think it would be great. I think it'd be useful. I think it'd be helpful. I think I understand that what I need to write about. I've done all these workshops. I've done this stuff. I keep on seeing clouds everywhere. I keep on hearing God tell me do this. And to the book is a part of it. And I the cool thing is I do think the book will I've always kind of thought the book would launch and publish when we opened the homestead hideaway. And it would be tied into the Humpstead Hideway and actually how that project comes about eventually. And so that's where I am now is I've got the early parts of the book and the early parts of the story. And it's not just my story I'm gonna be sharing. I want to share my story intermixed with other stories and other things that I've experienced or I've gotten that I've been blessed to experience, or other people or other things. you know, just all the these little bits and pieces. And I another part of my little checking the timeline of this situation is I met somebody this year when I spoke at a conference, Amber Lee Laga, who was on the podcast a few months ago. And she wrote a couple of books and I read one of her books so, so good. And the way she wrote it was how I wanna write mine. So I was like, wow. And she even said, Hey, if you want me to put you in touch with my publisher, I can. So Amberly, I need to get in touch with you because That's another God moment for me is that he's putting these people in my mind, my head, my my world for a reason to make this thing happen. but my biggest, my biggest, biggest, biggest holdup is when I write this book and when I share this book, I'm going to share a lot of things that are hurtful, that have happened, that involve other people. That I'd rather not share because I don't want to hurt people and I don't want to bring up old things and I don't want to go through that stuff again. And then when you of course write your book, you're going on book tours and you're talking about it a lot more. And these people are still alive. And so I'm like, well, do I just wait until they pass away and then I start running it? Or and you know, I keep on hearing over and over God, and I've I've shared this on the podcast before that God has said to me, You can upset a few people or you can change the lives. Of so many people, you choose. You choose, Angel. And as much as I don't like hurting people, and I don't want it to be about, you know, bad things have happened to me, if it can help you get through that thing that you're getting through that I went through, the way I got through it, then I need to do it. So that is that's where I am. I know that's where I am. Because I think it will help. And I think a lot of my story is about forgiveness, finding the good, finding God and all of these areas. And I do, I've been back and forth too. Is is this a Christian book or is it a non-Christian book? I don't think it's a Christian book because a I don't want this just to be about my faith and that's it, even though it will be a big part of it. It's kinda like the podcast. It's kind of like everything we're doing. It's kind of like the homestead. Like it will be part of it. We'll share that. I'm gonna share my faith here. I'm gonna share my faith in the my book. I'm gonna share the faith on other property. And I don't want that to be a hindrance if you don't believe what I believe because I believe that everyone has a right to believe what they want to believe in. However, if you are in a place where you're like, Angel, I just want to believe because I have nothing to believe on and I'm on my last like hair of belief and I want to end my life or I want to like not be here anymore, whatever that looks like. And I love the way you've gotten through that because I've been in that place. then I want to share it. And I do appreciate that somebody shared their faith with me and I then got into my faith after that. But actually I didn't really have anybody share their faith with me. Let me just say that too. I had I had no option because the faith, which is a big part of the book early on, the faith was what got me, it was just there. It was God's protection and God's bubble was around me. No questions. It was supernatural, way, way unlike anything that I could have ever. brought upon myself. And I look back on that and I'm like, I had a bubble around me of protection. And that was God. And he was with me all along. And then he kept on showing up, kept on showing up. And then in college, when I had my mental breakdown when I was registering for classes my sophomore year, I went to a counselor and the counselor said to me, one of the first things they said is, Do you have faith that you believe in anything. And I said, Of course I do. I've love God. He's always been a part of my life. And I just thought it was natural. Everyone kinda had that faith. And they're like, but do you know Jesus? Do you know who Jesus is? And that is when I really got I knew who Jesus was by the way, but I really got into my Bible. I started opening my Bible. I started reading about these these stories, these people, and I saw my story and my my life in that book. And that's I was like, yeah, okay, Jesus has been with me all along. This is this is what I have. This is the Holy Spirit with me. And I'm I'm so excited about that. So it's not that people shared their testimony, even though I've heard a ton of testimonies since then. and I hear them every day, and it's just the most beautiful thing. So I want to share my testimony, but I also want people to have a an opportunity to decide for themselves what it is they need. And so if what I share is They're like, yeah, I want that, or I've experienced that, or yes, I believe that, or I've heard about this Jesus person. Tell me more. I'm willing to share it. But that's not what it's all about fully, because I say this a lot is Jesus came to this world as a person to show us what it was like, what what God wants us to be like, who God really is, because that's what who he was. And all God, all Jesus was was love. And a good person and he didn't sin and he was there. But he also was hanging out with sinners and the poor and the children and the people that really were broken and needed him the most. That's who he was with. And that's who I want him help. You know, I want to help the people that don't have available options like everybody else might have. They might not and might not get a chance to have that love that they need, other than an Hearing it from me that they are loved, that you're loved, and you are wanted and you have a purpose. You have a purpose. And I feel like that's my purpose is to share that we all have these purposes in life and we have to go after them. And if you can see me going after them and you can see me having them happen, then you will know that it's gonna happen for you. And the only way that any of this is happening or any of the things have happened for me in my life is because of God. So yes, it will be. A big part of everything I do and everything I say and everything I'm I'm about. But I'm not saying you have to have that same belief right now. I mean, if you want it, it's there for you. But okay, so back to the book. So yeah, so lately he's just kept on saying to me, Angel, you need to write this book. You have to write the book. And when I say he keeps on saying to me, literally I hear it in my head. I spend a lot of time praying. I'm reading a really good book right now called Lead with Prayer. It's so good, guys. and it's all about the more time you spend in prayer, the more time you get clarity about your life, the more time you hear God speak, you, the more time life just happens for you. And just it's a beautiful, it's a beautiful, beautiful thing. So I want to spend as much time in prayer as I can. I don't do it as much as I'd love to, but I do do it a lot. And so now that I have make this a total priority for me. I've just heard it more and more clearer and louder that things in my life that I need to be doing, like the homestead and all the blessings I've just received and over and over. It's just been miracle after miracle, greatness after greatness. I'm not saying I don't have bad days or bad things or whatever. We all are gonna have that in this broken world, but it's so much greatness So much favor, so much blessing that I am like, yes, sign me up. And a lot of that is because of prayer. And so when I've been praying, hearing him, talking to him, listening to him, he has said, Angel, write the book. Write the book, write the book, write the book, write the book, write the book. So this week when I was gone, I was away, I spent a lot of time in prayer again. I spent a lot time just looking up at the sky and seeing those dang clouds. Like I am right now. And every time I do nail, I say that's it's God saying to me, Okay, how you knowing the book? What's going on with the book? Where are you with the book? Have you reached out to Lauren? Have you talked to Lauren? Have you connected with Lauren? Because every time I see Lauren, Lauren's like, I want to help you, I wanna be involved, whatever I can do. And so she sent out this email or posted on LinkedIn, I can't remember which one, about this four week course she's doing on writing. And getting it out and narrative and all like a lot deeper than the one I did with Jess. Jess was more like like getting the wheels turning. I feel like this one's gonna be like, okay, the wheels are turning, everything's churning, everything's coming together. It's gonna freaking happen. It's gonna happen. So I'm doing it. I signed up right before this podcast. I'm gonna be doing it every Sunday for the next four weeks. so excited about it because I know God's got something so amazing that'll be part of that. experience and will be getting me one step closer to this this goal and this dream and this vision that he has placed in my heart. And it's another big one, you know, guys, I'd like to mention books cost a lot of money. They take a lot of time. You have to write a lot of stuff. You have to share a lot of things. You can hurt a lot of people. You can but I am listening and I'm doing. And I'm following because I want at the end of the day when I go to heaven that the first thing God says to me is, Good job, you loyal person, you loyal angel, you loyal Christian, you loyal follower, you loyal everything. You listen to me, I put it in your heart, I said it would happen, and it happened. And I can look back, guys, for everything in my life. My kids who are amazing. My husband who is an angel. My business that I lost and I don't miss. and I'm still provided for bigger than I ha was when I had the job and income. Like it's crazy. you know, the faith I have is Freaking amazing. It's the best thing I have in my life is my faith, my relationship with God, my prayer time, my insights, my drive, my wisdom. Like it's so cool and so exciting that I can't wait to come on here and say to you and show and show you, here's my book. Go buy it. It will change your life. It will do this, this, and this. And it will make you so much more fulfilled and happy. And it will show you the ways to make your biggest dreams trick come true, right? It's gonna have all those aspects. And the other thing I'm gonna say to you is, and come to the Homestead Hideaway. We are opening. We're opening. I've already thrown a date out there, December 23rd, 2027. And it's gonna be the most magical place on earth. It's gonna be the place that changes lives, not only for the people that come and visit. But for the people that are benefit from the funding that is given out of the people staying there, the people that help build it, the the all of it will help people in so many incredible ways. It's gonna be so magical. And I know it will happen because God will make it happen. I know the book will happen because God will make it happen. How do I know this? Because of the fact I'm here. The fact that I'm thriving, the fact that I'm just getting started at 53, the fact that I have been overwhelmed with so many incredible blessings, because the more I lean into this gift he's given me, this life that he's given me, the more I can say I've been depression free for two years that I have not wanted to in my life for two years. I couldn't say that, guys, for 30 years. Thirty years and probably honestly longer because when I was growing up, I wasn't actively trying, but I was trying. I thought I should have died now seven times at least. I was reckless, I was stupid, I was angry, I was mad, sad, and then when I was in college and I recognized what it was and I was clinically de diagnosed as being depressed. And I started actively trying to take my life, whether it was with a knife, whether it was something I was drinking, whether it was wanting to jump off a building, a bridge, whatever it was, where I was so close, so close so many times. But the fact that I can say I've two years of not having one of those thoughts. And the reason why is because of my faith and because of God, because of Jesus living with me inside of me and being with me, I'm gonna share that. And I'm going to follow that and I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure I love my purpose. And I feel like my purpose is to show you that you can do the same, that you've been given a dream, you've been given something. And again, it can be smaller than a freaking book or opening up a place in the Caribbean. But I would also say it's not small. Because your dream could be getting married to an amazing person. It could be driving around the country. It could be being a mom. It could be owning a house. It really could be s something like that. And I'm I don't want to say that's small, but to some people they might say that's smaller. It's not. It's whatever that is in your heart. You just need to do it. Some people, you know what? And some of sometimes, and I really admire, I really admire these people. I don't know if I could do this, is you might be a parent to a special needs child or an aging parent. You're taking care of an aging parent. I mean, my kids had ADHD and ADD, and they were very, very high maintenance, and I went through a lot with them. So I understand too a little bit. And I have such a big heart to aging people and to special needs people. It is God just brings me to them. I like love being around them. But I don't know if I could care for somebody like that because it just wasn't in my heart. It hasn't been, I don't feel like it's a calling. It hasn't been presented to me. Again, I'm willing and able to do whatever God calls me to do. But I feel like He's called me to create this really incredible place. It's going to change lives. And he's called me to write a book that will also do the same that's going to be tied into this place somehow. These are my callings. And my other my other callings are to be a great mom and to be a great wife and to be a great person in this world and to be a light to people and to encourage you to be to do the same, to be the same. So you listen to this because you are encouraged by something. You probably have something in your heart that you're like, I don't wanna do this, but Angel says I should. I'm it's not Angel saying you should, it's it's God saying you should. I'm just talking and speaking on what he's saying to me. That we are all created special for a reason and have a purpose and we need to live out that purpose. And it's scary and it's hard. Guys, I you know, we I think, 'cause again, I pray about this all the time. I think we are supposed to buy a place in Bequia that we found and it cost it's gonna cost us about five million plus or minus to get this property, to open the property and all of that, which is a lot of money and money we don't have in our bank account right now. and we are asking and reaching out to people to help to help give us this money. But no one's come forward yet with the bigger money. And I have heard lots of no's. Lots of like lots of no's and lots of like nothings. I've sent out boxes, I've contacted people, I've emailed people, I've pitched people, I've talked to people, I prayed about this, and I'm just hearing no's. But it doesn't bother me. I don't care. I mean Of course I'm like I question sometimes I gotta okay so I'm hearing no. Am I hearing anything, you know, is this is this a place? Is this what I'm supposed to be doing? Is this am I am I hearing you clearly on this? And as far as I hear, it's yes. So keep going. He's saying, I'm gonna provide, you wait. It's gonna be the end last chapter of your book. So hold on tight. You're not there yet, you're getting closer and closer and closer. And we're going to the property in a couple of weeks. We're booking our flight today to go and stay on the property and check it out. And maybe there is will be the clarity we need for yes, this is it, or no, this is not it, or whatever. You know, I've even said, okay, well, maybe we don't buy this property, maybe we don't need this money, maybe we can just find find someplace we lease. Like I I am open to every single thing this becomes because I am open to what God wants, not what angel wants. So when I do get, if I do get a little upset or like a little discouraged because that's normal, like I'm gonna feel that a little bit here and there. I really have learned, though, I've really been great about this. I'm like, well, no, it's just not God's timing. It's not, it's not the way God wants it. And I'm not gonna force it and I'm not gonna do something that's stupid. And I'm it's not this is not for me. I freaking love my house. I love my life. I love what I'm doing. But I know he's got something for me that. is bigger than me and I know the only way it's gonna happen is through him and by him. So if you have that big dream and you're like, my gosh, what do I do? Just keep praying, keep believing, keep listening, keep going, keep doing. Keep doing. You have to do it like today, signing up for the writing course tonight, booking my flight to Buckway, you know, tomorrow, reaching out to more people, doing this podcast, sharing on social media, whatever it is I have to do, I'm doing it. To get closer and closer to living out my purpose and my dream. You guys, I hope this has been helpful. I hope this has been encouraging you. I hope that you go sign up for something that's going to get you closer to your dream, or you make that big step, or you make the leap, or you pray on your knees, whatever that is. Let me know. Reach out to me, tell me what it is. That's the other thing. The more you can share it, the more it becomes. The more you can have people praying for you, the more. It becomes real. Prayer is a real thing. So I always tell people if you don't have any money, if you don't have a social media following, if you don't want to share with anybody, just pray for us. Just pray for me. Just pray for the Hempstead Hideaway. I'm going to end this on a prayer. Heavenly Father, I love you so much. I am so grateful for you. I'm so grateful for this podcast. I'm so grateful for the people that listen to this every week. The people that I'm meeting every day, the people that are encouraging me to keep going, to keep doing the dream, to keep on doing the thing that you're called you've called me to do. I like I know this is the scariest and the craziest and the biggest thing ever that I could ever imagine, but you are a bigger God. I you are the biggest God. You're the biggest thing. You you have every resource, you have every mean, you have every person, you have every dollar, you have every single thing that we need for this project to happen, for the book to happen, for the homestead to open, for the people to come, for the legacy to be made, for the lives to be touched and changed. You have it all. And you will provide it all in your perfect timing because that is what you do. Everything has a perfect time, a perfect place, a perfect reason. And we are on board. I am on board for it all to happen in your timing. And I'm so just blessed that you have given me this opportunity to pray as much as I can now every day to spend as much time with you as I can to encourage others to pray for us to pray for other people that you put them in my hearts and you put them in you know in a place where I can sit here and pray for them as well and and just be with them.
