ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Miguel Martinic, an unboxable entrepreneur, landed a new client - and closed his business the next morning. The question behind that decision takes ten seconds to ask about your own work: what is this actually for?
Miguel Martinic grew up in Bolivia, the boy in a Catholic school who wanted to know what a number meant, not just how to reach it. He built a career as a financial advisor, then closed his consultancy the morning after landing a new client, lost a lot of money on three startups that failed, and started again at 43. Today he is a culture transformation and leadership advisor, helping companies close the gap between the culture they declare and the culture they live through his programme, Human Operating Manual. His argument: asking why sends you looking backwards for causes, asking what something is for points you forwards - and the mind that kept asking was never the problem.
For anyone who has hit the goal that was meant to feel like success and felt nothing - and has started quietly wondering whether the work they're so good at is actually theirs.
In this episode:
- Why a mind that needs the whole story gets corrected at school - and what that same instinct makes possible later
- The night a new client's email made him close a working business, and the question that did it
- Three failed startups, a fresh start at 43, and why he came to see his difference as "pushing outside to see the light"
- Why saying no won't hurt anyone - and what people-pleasing is really protecting
