ABOUT THIS EPISODE
You've probably seen the advice: "Block all AI crawlers to protect your content!" But here's the thing - if you block everything, you're also blocking the AI systems that would cite and link to your site in their answers. And right now, AI-driven search is becoming a major traffic source for many WordPress sites.
In this first episode, we break down the reality of AI crawlers in 2026. We talk about which ones are actually training models on your content versus which ones are just answering user questions and linking back to you. Spoiler: they're not all the same.
We discuss:
- The difference between crawlers that train AI models and those that provide answers
- How to identify which AI systems are visiting your WordPress site
- What happens when you block everything vs. being selective
- Real examples of sites gaining traffic from AI citations
- The technical setup that lets you control this without breaking your site
Most WordPress sites we've audited either block everything (missing out on visibility) or allow everything (letting their content train models they don't benefit from). There's a middle ground, and it's simpler than you think.
If you want the technical details on how to configure AI crawler permissions properly, check out https://zinnseo.com/ - we've put together guides showing exactly what each crawler does and how to set up rules that protect your content while staying visible in AI answers.
This isn't about fear-mongering or making things complicated. It's about understanding what's actually happening when AI systems visit your site, so you can make informed decisions instead of following blanket advice that might hurt your visibility.
Perfect for WordPress site owners who want to understand AI search and make smart choices about their content.
