00:00:00
Speaker 1: What's not. This is ESPN fifteen thirty. I'm Moeger. Thank you so much for listening.
00:00:04
Speaker 2: Hope you're having an.
00:00:05
Speaker 1: Awesome Thursday afternoon. The Reds as of right now, are having an awesome Thursday afternoon, trying to finish off a sweep, a sweep of the ace. I almost called him the Oakland A's I'm not supposed to do that. It is six to three, good guys, bottom of the third inning on an afternoon where Cincinnati has gotten a long ball off the bat of Elie de la Cruz, a long ball off the bat of Sal Stewart.
00:00:29
Speaker 2: His twenty fifth along went off the.
00:00:31
Speaker 1: Bat of Tyler Stevenson, a dead center field JJ Bleday has homered. Cincinnati fell behind in this game three to one with Andrew Abbott on the mound, and yet maybe the key play in the game is a double playball that Andrew Abbott induced with the bases loaded that scored a run but kind of helped them get out of the out of the inning with minimal damage, so to speak. And they also needed replay overturn in order for that to happen. Red's win last night one on Tuesday, they obviously took the series against Pittsburgh. They've won all but one series since the All Star Break. They're on the verge of sweeping this one. I do not believe in jinxes, and so if they don't, it's not my fault. But six to three Reds with a guy on first and two outs, one out, I'm sorry in the bottom.
00:01:19
Speaker 2: Of the eighth inning at GABP.
00:01:21
Speaker 1: Reds are on the road for the next two series, starting tomorrow, first to three against the Washington Nationals. We have that to discuss. Obviously, we'll have some instant reaction from GABP. The two teams that are currently atop the wildcard standings at least with the second and third spot, Arizona and Philadelphia are both tied for the second and third wildcard positions. Both of those teams play tonight, but the Reds could be four games out of the last wildcard.
00:01:52
Speaker 2: By the end of the evening. We will see.
00:01:54
Speaker 1: We have that to get to more on Hunter Green and his elbow injury, which we found out toward the end of yesterday's show. We'll get to that a little bit later on full show. Preview is available now, check it out, watch it on Twitter at Muegger Thanks to shareffacs Credit Union. Was that Bengals Camp this morning with Tony, Tony and Moe Training Camp Show thanks to Adorn Windows on the iHeartRadio app. I would say that today is Today was a day where you lean toward the offense being better, But I don't know that it was as decisive as it has been for so many days here during training camp. There have been a lot of days where it felt like clearly, clearly the defense won, clearly the defense dominated. I think the d had an edge today over the offense, but I felt like offensively they did some things to at least close the gap a little bit. No Jamar Chase today a rest day for him. No Eric All today for the Bengals offense a maintenance day for him. I would agree with those who have reported that the link, the hookup between Joe Burrow and T Higgins still feels off. If there's a handful of things that I think we believe are going to be go tos for this offense when the games actually begin, the connection between Joe Burrow and T Higgins is on that list. Coleby Young continues to be really good. Coleby Young continues to do what the Bengals simply hoped Jermaine Burton would do. This is probably gonna be the last time I ever mentioned Jermaine Burton's name, But in recent years we've wondered, like, all right, is there a job to be had on the depth chart as wide receiver three? It has been the job held down by Andrey Yoshavas. Everybody loves Andrea Yoshavas. You do, I do, But come on, at the end of the day, he is a sixth round pick out of Princeton University. You probably can do better. Well, maybe they have with Colby Young, and maybe Colby has a little bit of an edge because Andre Yoshavas had a rough day today. Now, Andrea Yoshavas, up until today, I think it had a pretty decent camp today did not help his cause. And on the last of his drops, which came during the last play of the eleven on eleven period, andre Yoshavas had to drop on a ball that a wide receiver, an NFL wide receiver has to catch. Joe Burrow looked frustrated defensively no Dexter Lawrence today still limitations on Dax Hill thought today was a really good day for Cash's Hall. A couple of times off the edge, Orlando Brown, trying to block Cash's Hall, had his way with him. Paul Danner, Junior of the Athletic He passes along that this was probably cash Is Holl's best practice to date.
00:05:09
Speaker 2: Zach Taylor talked pretty.
00:05:11
Speaker 1: Effusively this morning about cash Is how he had a good day today. I felt like it was interesting watching both coordinators move guys around. Tony pointed it out during today's show. Watched a snap where Miles Murphy was lined up standing up over the center, also on offense. And this is the real fun stuff now when the games actually count, when they begin. Who knows how much of this stuff we're gonna see. Who knows how many wrinkles we're gonna see. But they were lining up Chase Brown all over the place. They were lining up Taj Brooks, not necessarily in as many places as they were lining up Chase Brown, but they were still moving him around a lot they've moved obviously Jamar Chase did in practice today, but in a lot of the practices they've been moving him around. They feel like they feel like and Tony has talked about this a ton and I defer to him when it comes to this sort of stuff, but it feels like they're using a lot of eye candy, a lot of stuff that can help the quarterback identify with the other team's defense is going to do. And Uh, Now, again, we'll see if this is something they continue to do once the games actually counts. But if you go to those practices, this morning was really well attended by season ticket holders and sweet holders. You see a lot of that stuff. You see them using chess pieces, You see them trying to expand a little bit of what some guys could do. You see a lot from Chase Brown. He continues to be really really productive. Uh, we'll touch on the day at Bengals training camp coming up in just about thirty minutes. Our lines are open for a bit at five point three seven four nine, fifteen thirty at eight six six seven ZHO two three seven seven six Reds and A's are headed to the ninth inning at GABP Cincinnati, looking for three outs to complete a three game series sweep of the team that should be referenced to as these Sacramento A's. You also have the Hunter Green injury with trying to discuss There's a lot to get to between now and six. I'm glad you're here. This is ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
00:07:09
Speaker 3: Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
00:07:13
Speaker 1: Traffic from the Food twenty one after three, ESPN fifteen thirty Moeger, thanks for joining us this afternoon.
00:07:21
Speaker 2: By the way, you could watch this show.
00:07:22
Speaker 1: You can sit and watch a guy talking to a microphone, which is really exciting. We got a YouTube channel, the Moeger Show. We have Twitter at mo or X. We'll start calling it by its proper name. The graphic we use if you watch it is the X graphic. It's not the Twitter graphics. So I guess I've got to be I've gotta be consistent. Rad's lead the A's six to five. Sacramento got a two run homer off the bat of Brian's Servin after an infield hit, so that made it six to five. Sam Mall is on the mound for I'm sorry. Brock Burke is on the mound for Cincinnati. Rads are trying to close down the outs. Top nine Cincinnati clinging now to a six to five lead at GABP looking for a three game series sweep. We will have reaction and analysis from the ballpark right after the game ends. Tony Pike's gonna join us at about twenty twenty five minutes for the latest training camp report. A day offense had a better day today. It still doesn't look the way I think we all expected to look. It doesn't look as crisp, it doesn't look as in sync. And you know, having a defensive line that is as disruptive as the Bengals defensive line has been so far in training camp is going to have a lot to do with that. That said, it felt like today was better. It felt like the advantage between the Bengals the Bengals defense has over its offense was not as profound, was not as pronounced. Today was going to be a practice where they tackled and they hit more, they thutted, They didn't really bring anybody to the ground. I got the sense when Al Golden talked about the Bengals tackling during the next three practices that he was speaking a little out of turn, because, you know, Zach Taylor went out of his way this morning. He met with reporters right before practice to talk about the fact that they weren't going to be bringing anybody to the ground. Instead, they were going to be doing thudding. And so it felt to me a little bit like Al Golden spoke out of turn. And look, man, they got to tackle better. You would expect almost any Bengals defensive coordinator, any defensive coordinator anywhere, to prefer to tackle right. They did not. But a better day for the Bengals offense. By the way, the game has gone final first time in franchise history, they have put together a three game sweep of the A's six' five to the final, Score cincinnati is now fifty six and fifty. Eight they pull within two of five hundred and for the moment four and a half games out of the last wild card.
00:09:55
Speaker 2: Spot, see they've been rejuvenated since the trade.
00:09:57
Speaker 1: Deadline they haven't lost we'll have a reaction to the ballpark here in in just a. BIT i do want to bring you. This this Is Brian. Pitcher Brian, Pitcher bengals offensive. Coordinator i'm, sorry DID i Say Brian?
00:10:08
Speaker 2: Pitcher?
00:10:09
Speaker 1: Dan WHY'D i Say Brian? Pitcher guy's name Is dan pitcherd been with the team. Forever Dan, Pitcher bengals offensive. Coordinator Dan, Pitcher bengals offensive, coordinator talking with reporters today about the offense and how it's looked in camp and.
00:10:24
Speaker 2: Today when you.
00:10:26
Speaker 1: Look at an unscripted period like that as an, offense what do you get out of?
00:10:29
Speaker 2: That and as a, coach what do you learn from?
00:10:32
Speaker 4: That it's a Stress it's it's a way to impose stress on the players in a way that scripted, periods. Don't you? Know these guys all care very deeply about doing their, jobs and so when they know they're going to be in for this set of plays and this is the these are the plays they are going to be, called you, KNOW i they go, home they study them and you should see very, little if any error when it comes to executing the mental parts of those. Plays now you get a call, period and that's much more like a game where, hey here's the call sheet and there's one hundred and fifty of these things that could come out of his mouth at any given, time and you got to be ready to go. Execute and so the first couple of times you do, that you send, that you tend to see an uptick in alignment, error, motion, timing targeting and the run game targeting and. Protection but we got to you, know we got to snuff that out, quickly because that's real. Football and so you learn a lot about guys when you when you go to periods like. That is that how you saw this in? Scripted you've got to get some number high? Out, Sure, yeah for. SURE i mean, yeah we. DIDN'T i MEAN i think overall today we just we didn't make enough. Plays we had a chance to make way more plays than we did, today and so that's. Disappointing but you learn from it and you move on and we'll make more, tomorrow and you, know we'll go back and we'll find out what are the reasons for maybe some of the stuff that needs to. Improve, OPERATIONALLY i think by and, large we've we've had a very good camp. Operationally i've been pleased about this one of the worst. Day, SURE i mean it's, hot it's you, know you're. Through we're through eight installs, now so that's a lot of volume that the guys are responsible. For we understand that that's by. Design we want to see how they perform at stressful. Situations and so every day's new. Day learn from, today get better Momk.
00:12:20
Speaker 2: All, right there you, Go Dan pitcher and chatting with.
00:12:22
Speaker 1: Reporters that's a pretty good in depth answer talking about today's. Practice AND i THINK i would agree with what he, said not that he cares about that at. ALL i felt like the offense was. BETTER i felt like when they were going unscripted eleven on eleven That Joe burrow And Joe flacco were not under duress as. Much you, know you just Heard dan talk about the inability to make as many plays as you would have liked to have. Seen and you, know there's there were some passes downfield that weren't completed WHERE i thought the coverage was. Excellent there were a couple Of Andre yoshavas, drops there were a handful of missed connections Between joe and AND T. Higgins BUT i think WHAT i like more than an anything else is you saw some offensive, improvement but you continue to see things that you really like about.
00:13:06
Speaker 2: What's going on with the.
00:13:06
Speaker 1: Defense Dexter lawrence did not practice, today he got a veteran's. Day But Demetrious knight, like don't get too far ahead of. YOURSELF i Know i'm, not but we all went into camp wondering is the approach at linebacker going to, work And Demetrious Knight tony talked about how how smooth he isn't just getting to the, ball getting to the play and to the degree you're allowed to make plays during a training camp practice setting making the. Play he doesn't look at a position, again like they're not, tackling so you can't judge whether these guys would have missed tackles if they're not, tackling there's no tackles to be. Missed but there's there's there's. Flashes there's flashes From Demetrius, Knight Barrett carter not as, many But demitrious. NOT i think looks. Awesome AND i also really liked To Carrio davis and there were some fun matchups on the outside between To Carrio davis And Colby young And Colby young, again it is having a good, camp and it feels like there's some really good things happening At Wide. Receiver today was not a very good day For Andre. Yoshavas today was a good day for The Cincinnati, reds who are now thirteen and. Six since The All star break six y five the final, Score reds have won four. Straight they're now four and a half out of The. Speaker 1: The caveat that they're beating bad Teams the a's or twenty, five hundred. Five hundred they're going nowhere. This year they've taken care of business against either bad or. Mediocre competition but the only way they were even going to have a shot in the second half of the season was to come out of the gate and play well against. Bad teams they're thirteen. And six the math is not in. Their favor they're four and a. Half back the two teams they trail by four and a half. Play Tonight The philadelphia phillies are Hosting The. At it but get to five and, we'll talk and you can't help but talk about the schedule they Have, in september which is. Ridiculously hard but That's. In september, for now they've got a three game series Against The, washington nationals who are not, very good who have been in, free fall who saw their seven game losing streak at snapped. Last night they just Traded Away, foster griffin just Traded Away. Luis garcia they did the opposite of buy at. The Deadline the reds have. Passed them we'll see what else do. We have florence Y'all's At sussex. County tonight bengals wrapped up a, practice today veteran Days For jamar Chase And, dexter lawrence a, maintenance day they called It For.

Was there he was there all, day long and his workday is not even close to being over because we have hourly training camp reports, three o'clock four o'clock in the five.
00:20:03
Speaker 2: O'clock.
00:20:03
Speaker 1: Hour uh today felt like a day where you would say the defense still had, the edge but the advantage wasn't as pronounced as it had been in.
00:20:12
Speaker 6: Previous, PRACTICES yeah i thought they they're any playing offensive is a. LITTLE better i thought they handled a third down emphasis today much better than what they have in the past of. TRAINING camp i still think the defense overall came out on top. Of it as, YOU SAID moi i think. It was it was way. More competitive and if you're an, offensive coach If Your, dan pitcher If You're, zach taylor If You're, scott peters you're you're probably walking away from today feeling a little bit better than maybe what you have been throughout the camp.
00:20:42
Speaker 1: So far, all right was the advantage the defense had not as pronounced Simply Because dexter lawrence.
00:20:47
Speaker 6: WASN'T there i think that would have a large part to play. IN it i think you Could play devil's advocate on the other side And Say jamar chase. Wasn't, there YEAH and i Still Thought joe burrow had a really, Good day so more of the same of what. We've Seen chase brown looks like he's preparing for a, breakout ROLE and i think role would probably do him. AN injustice i think it's ROLES because i think he's gonna have. DIFFERENT ones i thought it was a good Day For, kobe young but overall still too, much penetration very bad rep and clip out There Of Orlando brown Junior with.
00:21:21
Speaker 2: Cashu's house so, You know i'm a glass half. Full guy i'm an.
00:21:24
Speaker 1: OPTIMIST absolutely i viewed That as cash as how in HIS first nfl training camp had a day against an established Player Like.
00:21:31
Speaker 2: Orlando brown that is.
00:21:32
Speaker 6: Very, ENCOURAGING yeah, i mean and you think of Cash as howe what we know or what, we've, heard, Athleticism speed not much was made about his power you. WANT to, i mean that's a straight bull rush that he Used On Orlando. Brown. Junior Today zach taylor referred to the Tenacity of cassiu's house similar to That Of, eric HALL which i think is very high praise with how they've Talked About. Eric hall, but yeah from a rookie who, YOU know i think is probably trying to figure out where his role and where his slot is going, to Be And al golden has used him in a bunch of. DIFFERENT situations i thought he had a very productive day.
00:22:08
Speaker 1: As WELL if i knew Nothing About demetrius knight's season, last year or if he was.
00:22:14
Speaker 2: A rookie i would watch. Him go bengals might have a little bit of a dude. At, linebacker yep checked.
00:22:21
Speaker 6: Every box he's checked each box that he's been asked to check at. This, point now we were duped a little bit with the whole. Tackling thing it was not. Tackling today it was. Glorified thud but he's been in the position that it needs to. Be in and, you KNOW sometimes i think we look at that last year, and, Say Man dimitrius knight just didn't get. It Well al golden is a linebacker specialist in previous, tenures here he was passed with reinventing and reworking. A defense. Last year he probably didn't have as much individual time TO focus mo on the linebacker position as. A whole he has a year under. His belt knight has another year under. HIS belt i think they both look more comfortable in, their roles one from a coaching standpoint and obviously the other from a.
00:23:05
Speaker 1: Player standpoint, one more we had a chance to talk. To him for folks who haven't, heard it it's on the. iHeartRadio app how impressive is the Dude Is?
00:23:11
Speaker 6: JONATHAN allen, i mean throw him on the list of everyone we've had a chance to. Talk to but just a guy you want to, talk about, like perspective knows exactly what his, role is knows why, he's here happy to help younger guys on. THE team, i mean went out of his way to talk Highly Of jerry montgomery and then a slat, out, LIKE hey i also came Here Because joe burrows a quarterback and this this team has a chance. To WIN and i think that honesty with the player he's been and the team he's been around, very sincere, very IMPRESSIVE and i think will be a very very key member of this defense.
00:23:50
Speaker 1: This, year yep, well said, all right we'll talking in it about An, hour tony thanks. So much, All, Right Well tony pike has hourly training camp reports three forty, five, ish three four forty, five ish five forty. Five ish And tomorrow tomorrow's practice is. At night tomorrow's practice, show UP and i think you just show them. GET there i don't think. They're not the tickets, are free so it's a practice inside the stadium starting at. Six o'clock so we're not gonna have a training camp show in. The Morning but TONY and i together from three until seven point thirty from the broadcast booth Inside Pay course. Stadium tomorrow, and uh we're gonna be Joined By duke tobin and we are looking forward.
00:24:33
Speaker 6: To that.
00:24:34
Speaker 1: Rad's Win terry francona. Just spoke you'll hear what he had to say NEXT on espn. Fifteen thirty rocky here For But. Herbert motors are you
Speaker 1: What's not.
Wildcard we'll talk about it here from some of the particulars coming up ON espn fifteen, Thirty Cincinnati Sports.

00:17:01
Speaker 2: And you could bring up.
00:17:04
Speaker 1: The caveat that they're beating bad Teams the a's or twenty, five hundred. Five hundred they're going nowhere. This year they've taken care of business against either bad or. Mediocre competition but the only way they were even going to have a shot in the second half of the season was to come out of the gate and play well against. Bad teams they're thirteen. And six the math is not in. Their favor they're four and a. Half back the two teams they trail by four and a half. Play Tonight The philadelphia phillies are Hosting The. Washington nationals Arizona's Hosting. San Diego That philly washington game starts at. Six o'clock but get the team credit for playing. PRETTY well i mean, they've played they've played well since, the break and, You know i'm not.
00:17:51
Speaker 2: There yet i'm not.
00:17:52
Speaker 1: There, yet mathematically this is a very sort, of limited almost stupid way of looking.
00:18:41
Speaker 2: Eric All dax hill remains limited.
00:18:44
Speaker 1: In Drills zach taylor today said that starters will play in, the preseason didn't necessarily say.
