ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In Episode 30 of Mindset on Resilience, we sit down with Dr. Atkins, Principal of Westlawn Middle School, a state and national school of character. Dr. Atkins' passion to become an educator was sparked at a young age and never changed. After nine years in the classroom, she felt called to make a broader impact, leading her to become an assistant principal. Her desire to shape the lives of students during their formative middle school years has been a great driving force.
Dr. Atkins later took on the role of principal during the height of the pandemic, facing unprecedented challenges, including managing a school where she only saw half of her student body during the first year. Recognizing the need for a cultural shift, Dr. Atkins, her staff, and students led Westlawn Middle School on a journey to becoming a school of character, focusing on instilling values and lessons that extend beyond the classroom. By 2022, Westlawn Middle School had experienced great transformation, changing the narrative from the challenges they once faced. Dr. Atkins is a firm believer in being a transformational and servant leader, ensuring that every student feels loved and supported.
Tune in to hear how Dr. Atkins is inspiring a generation of students to rise above challenges and embrace the greatness inside of them.
