ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Sometimes the best training doesn't need to be complicated.
That's one of the biggest things I took from The Great Gama Protocol by Pavel Macek.
Inspired by the training traditions of legendary wrestler The Great Gama, the program brings things back to basics: bodyweight movements, quality repetitions, gradual progression, and consistency.
And that's what I really like about it.
In fitness, we're constantly looking for more.
More exercises.
More equipment.
More intensity.
More complicated programming.
But sometimes the better question isn't:
“How much can I do?”
It's:
“What's the amount I can do consistently and continue getting better?”
The Great Gama Protocol emphasizes basic movements like squats, push-ups, and bridges while building a foundation of movement, strength-endurance, mobility, and general physical preparation.
No fancy equipment.
No complicated setup.
Just movement and consistency.
And one of my favorite ideas from the program is simple:
Consistency trumps intensity.
Because one brutal workout doesn't change you.
Training consistently for months and years does.
In this episode of MAS Performance: Quick Thoughts, I talk about what I liked about The Great Gama Protocol, why simplicity can be incredibly effective, and why we sometimes need to stop searching for the perfect program and simply start doing the work.
Simple doesn't mean easy.
And simple definitely doesn't mean ineffective.
Sometimes you just need a few good movements, a reasonable amount of work, and the discipline to come back tomorrow and do it again.
