Speaker 1: Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ. It's been a fun show, man. These winning weeks.
00:00:22
Speaker 2: Man, they just hit different, right? They just hit different. They don't stress you out. Although, Bone and I, in fairness, last hour were stressed out about Jalen Coker continuing to turn punts.
00:00:31
Speaker 3: We're afraid he's going to get hurt.
00:00:32
Speaker 2: But JJ has calmed us down.
00:00:34
Speaker 3: We had to calm JJ down and say, hey, man, just don't worry about it, man. It's all good.
00:00:37
Speaker 2: JJ came with so many facts. I was like, I guess I'm not worried anymore. How can you argue with that, man? It's been pointed out, Bone, by a texter that JJ might know more about special teams than we do.
00:00:49
Speaker 1: Someone says we got treated like the referees on a Sunday afternoon by JJ.
00:00:53
Speaker 3: Oh, that is true. Just completely changed your mind right there on the spot. Set you straight. Oh, man. If you have missed any of it, you missed it. I know what Coker returning kicks to me.
00:01:03
Speaker 2: You missed our conversation with JJ or any of the conversation so far on this show. A lot of good lively Panthers talk and are what the bleep segment as well.
00:01:11
Speaker 3: Go back.
00:01:12
Speaker 2: Listen to the podcast. He does a great job of getting them up there on all podcasts. You know, get up there on all platforms, WFNZ.com, Apple, Spotify, and more. So check them out. Right now, we've got a lot of college football stuff to talk about, including NC State finding the most NC State way to lose a damn game ever on that late fumble as Bailey just tried to run the clock down. in the end zone uh adam gold joins us from 99.9 to fan and rally and of course weeknights here on wfnz at seven o'clock he is adam gold goldie what the heck's happening man how you doing i'm.
00:01:53
Speaker 4: Doing well why didn't why are you making me talk about.
00:01:55
Speaker 3: That Because you've got to own that, man, being Mr.
00:02:00
Speaker 4: Raleigh.
00:02:01
Speaker 3: It's my fault. I'm not blaming you. I'm not blaming you.
00:02:05
Speaker 4: Dave wasn't going to take the blame. I know.
00:02:08
Speaker 3: It sounded like he lightened that up a little bit yesterday.
00:02:11
Speaker 4: He did.
00:02:12
Speaker 2: Spreading it around. Like, what did you, I mean, I don't know what there is to say. It's one of the dumbest things ever. But what is there to say about it, Goldie?
00:02:22
Speaker 4: It was absurd.
00:02:22
Speaker 3: It was absurd.
00:02:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, the whole thing was absurd. I mean, look, stuff happens. NC State stuff happens. I don't know. I wouldn't have taken the delay game. I would have just lined up and punted it, and I would have punted it as high and as far and as out of bounds as I could have. I would have had the punter aim the ball into the stands. I don't even care how far it goes. You only got to kill seven seconds. I think you can get pretty close to seven seconds with a punt. Or you can simply have the punter run out of the back of the end zone and then squib kick it. They created the most chaotic. I mean, the whole play was chaos. Did anybody even bother to block on that play?
00:03:11
Speaker 3: It didn't look like it, did it? No, no, not at all.
00:03:15
Speaker 1: This might be a, look, I preface this, this might be a dumb question, but how are the NC State fans holding up.
00:03:21
Speaker 3: Right now there in Raleigh?
00:03:24
Speaker 4: Well, here's what's interesting to me. I found a fair amount of people who were caping up for Dave Dorn. And they were, you know, maybe not his coaching, but no, he's right to blame C.J.
00:03:35
Speaker 3: Bailey.
00:03:35
Speaker 4: He makes all this money, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, yep, the players do get paid, but let's not let's not conflate that with being professionals because they're not professionals. They're not professionals yet, but they do get paid. And I think that has given people even more license to criticize players. And I have no problem criticizing CJ Bailey. I said it, he deserves to be criticized for it. He screwed it up, but there was a lot of shared blame to go around. And that's what on Saturday evening or afternoon in Nashville, uh, That's what I didn't detect. I basically heard we're blaming CJ. We're blaming all the missed tackles. I can't go out on the field and tackle for these guys. I'm like, yeah, that's kind of out of Dave's playbook. But in a raw situation like this, I can't even fathom how that game was lost, even though Vanderbilt could have won that game on the possession before. So, I mean, we lose sight of the fact that After the middle of the third quarter, Vanderbilt was probably the better team.
00:04:44
Speaker 2: You already blew most of that 17-point lead and had Vandy threatening before the Barnhart pick. It's not like there weren't other things done wrong in that game, no doubt.
00:04:54
Speaker 4: Correct.
00:04:55
Speaker 1: Adam, I know we've talked a lot about Dabo's job security, but we'll put him to the side here for this one. Of the teams and coaches in the Carolinas that blew the double-digit leads on Saturday, Doran, Beamer, Belichick, Of those three, who do you consider to be in the most trouble going forward?
00:05:17
Speaker 4: I believe that would be Shane Beamer. I like Shane, too, but it's kind of unraveled in South Carolina, and I feel bad because I absolutely adore his dad. I don't know Shane at all, but I've spent enough time with Frank Beamer to know what he's about. I've He's just one of the best humans in coaching. I hope it works out for Shane, but I think if South Carolina wants to move on, he'll find another spot.
00:05:49
Speaker 1: I read a thread yesterday from South Carolina fans. It was on 3Thread, and it said, How are you feeling right now? And every single comment said, Love Shane. Love what he stands for. No one takes joy in the fact that it's not succeeding. But the term, Mac and Adam, that came up a lot was exhausting. It's been an exhausting run of waiting for them to consistently turn the corner, and it's just not happening.
00:06:12
Speaker 3: He does seem like a great dude, though. He really does, man.
00:06:15
Speaker 4: He definitely does. You know, here's what we shouldn't forget, that it is the University of South Carolina. I'm not trying to throw shade on that school and that football program. But other than a hot second with Lou Holtz and the Steve Spurrier era, South Carolina is kind of middling, right? They're kind of, I don't know, Fulham?
00:06:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's fair. I think that's definitely fair. No doubt about it. Goldie, the clip.
00:06:55
Speaker 4: You always get the Premier League references.
00:06:58
Speaker 3: Bone's getting there, too. No, he's not. Oh, you don't think so? No, no.
00:07:02
Speaker 1: He's very down on Chelsea, Bone. I've watched every Chelsea game, but I'll tell you what, though. There's a lot.
00:07:07
Speaker 3: Going on in those games. Not a lot of defense with Chelsea.
00:07:11
Speaker 4: Not at all. Not a second. Hey, do you know how far Fulham is from Chelsea, Bone?
00:07:18
Speaker 3: Well, I got to be honest, Mac had to correct me.
00:07:19
Speaker 1: I thought they were called Full Ham until about a week ago.
00:07:24
Speaker 3: I said, hey, Mac, they got this Full Ham team. It's got to be within five miles or so, right?
00:07:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, it looks like eight, seven or eight miles. I think it's the Thames.
00:07:34
Speaker 3: Bone knows what all the London derbies are for Chelsea. Of course he knows that.
00:07:38
Speaker 4: What a setting.
00:07:39
Speaker 2: All right, we're talking to Adam Gold right here on the Mac and Bone show. Let's talk about UNC and Clemson's game. Did you view that as Clemson made adjustments after getting down early, found something, got Tate Reynolds going with some confidence?
00:08:00
Speaker 3: Did you view that as well done Clemson?
00:08:02
Speaker 2: Did you view that as Carolina blowing a lead and Heels fans should be ticked?
00:08:06
Speaker 3: How did you view that game?
00:08:08
Speaker 4: I thought Carolina lost that game in the first quarter and a half. They should have been so far ahead, and their offense went away. I don't think they ran the ball well enough. Maybe that's Clemson, but it looked early on as though Carolina was just going to run through them like poop through a goose, and that just went the other way. And certainly I do think the lightning delay mattered. They were not the same team after the lightning delay, but I thought they lost that game in the first half more so than the second part of the game. And I think what Dabo said after the game was true. They wore Carolina down. The Tar Heels don't have the depth that Clemson has, even though Clemson's kind of middling as well. But to me, Carolina lost that game in the first half, not the second half.
00:08:56
Speaker 1: Adam, a week from today, we get to see the Canes in action for the first time, 5 p.m. next Tuesday against the Florida Panthers. The NHL could be a little topsy-turvy year to year. All of a sudden, the team that was good a year before may not have a good year. Who's the biggest challenger right now entering the season to the Canes in the Eastern Conference?
00:09:17
Speaker 4: In the division, I believe it will be Washington with an outside chance at New Jersey. In the conference... I know that everybody says it's Florida, and Florida won the two Cups prior to Carolina, and they returned basically that entire team plus Brady Kachuk, because Alexander Barkov is back from injury. But I think Montreal is going to be the best team in the Atlantic Division, not Florida. Brad Marchand's already hurt. It's an older team. I think Florida's a blue line. which, if they can stay healthy, will be really good. But, man, there's a lot of injury history on that back end, and there's some age on that back end, too. Uh, and Jacob Markstrom, that is a total wild card. There's a lot of teams in the, uh, East with wild cards and goal, but Jacob Markstrom is a big wild card in goal for me. Um, but I think Montreal is going to win the Atlanta before it was going to be very good. I think Tampa will be good. I think Buffalo will be good. It's a, uh, the Atlantic division is a great division. Um, there's going to be a team that's going to miss the playoffs in that division that could advance a couple of rounds.
00:10:26
Speaker 2: All right, Goldie. Next week, we will talk more about the Panthers. It'll be opening day of the season next Tuesday when we talk to you. We also will talk about how NC State blew a game against App State.
00:10:36
Speaker 3: We'll have that conversation, too. Oh, my God, don't do it.
00:10:39
Speaker 4: I love App, though. I love App. I wish the game was up there.
00:10:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, that would add even more intrigue to it. But, yeah, we've got App State fans are crowing. They think State's vulnerable.
00:10:52
Speaker 3: We will see. We will see. We will see. All right, Goldie, you're the man. Thanks for coming on, as always, brother. You got it.
00:10:58
Speaker 4: Talk to you later.
00:10:58
Speaker 2: Peace.
