00:00:08
Speaker 1: We're live, everybody. We're live, live, live.
00:00:24
Speaker 2: Good thing we didn't have a Sacramento hot mic situation during that break, man.
00:00:29
Speaker 3: We got a little frisky.
00:00:31
Speaker 4: All I simply did was tell Mac who Lola Weiss was on WWE.
00:00:36
Speaker 3: I'm not aware.
00:00:38
Speaker 2: I'm not aware of the current ladies involved in wrestling.
00:00:41
Speaker 4: I've never seen a man search quicker for a name than he did during that segment.
00:00:45
Speaker 3: I'm a throwback. I'm a Miss Hancock man. Stacey Keebler. I'm sorry? Stacey, isn't that her name? You're not talking about my mom, right? No, I'm talking about, wasn't that the character Stacey Keebler played? Yes, it was.
00:00:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, my fellow Towson Tiger alum, Stacey Keebler. She will ever be my favorite wrestling woman. But I'm open-boned to hear the new names, all right?
00:01:05
Speaker 3: There's a lot of them. All right, let's focus here, man.
00:01:10
Speaker 2: The Canes open today, baby, at 5 o'clock, an hour after Bone eats his dinner. The Carolina Hurricanes will raise a banner and drop the puck and take on those dastardly Kachuk brothers and the Florida Panthers.
00:01:24
Speaker 3: What a fun way to open the season.
00:01:27
Speaker 2: There's also something that apparently is a policy they're announcing about fan behavior that we have questions about. So there's going to be a lot of Kane stuff here. We will probably work some football in as well. But Adam Gold, he is here, and I know he's ready for Kane's season. 99.9 to Fanning Rally. What you need to know in Charlotte is weeknights here on WFNZ at 7 o'clock.
00:01:48
Speaker 3: Goldie, I know you're ready to go for tonight.
00:01:50
Speaker 1: Huh, man?
00:01:52
Speaker 5: I am fired up. fire. And a day game too. I love it.
00:01:57
Speaker 4: Speaker 2, a lot of fans were complaining about the 5 PM, but that's kind of a cool thing.
00:02:01
Speaker 5: I think Speaker 3, I don't give up. Oh wait. I almost, I almost already broke a rule. We'll all get over it. Well, I mean, five o'clock is not the most convenient thing, but it's not like it's, it was sprung on us yesterday. We've known about it for, for two months. So we're good.
00:02:22
Speaker 3: Let's go.
00:02:23
Speaker 5: Let's party.
00:02:25
Speaker 3: Canes fans can do that fine, just fine.
00:02:28
Speaker 2: I think the argument that I've heard is like, man, we're raising a banner. We're the champs, and you've got to give us the early time. But, of course, I was informed of what two markets play that slot where you would like the Canes to be, and it's Boston and New York. It's like, just like in baseball, you ain't bumping those markets off the primetime, man.
00:02:50
Speaker 5: Florida was the two-time defending champs and they played the five o'clock game last year.
00:02:56
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:02:56
Speaker 3: I didn't know that.
00:02:57
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:02:57
Speaker 3: All right. It does kind of suck though.
00:03:00
Speaker 2: It's the last three, holders are the last three cups and they get five o'clock, but you're right. Canes fans will make the most of it. So how are you feeling about this season? I mean, obviously it's hard to defend. I'm not even talking about that. Like Do you feel like this team can be as good? Do you feel like they can be improved in some areas? Are you worried about a step back at all? What's your feeling about this team compared to the champs?
00:03:28
Speaker 5: I think they'll be better than last year's team. It doesn't mean you're going to win a cup, but I think in the regular season, all that does is give you a chance. I think they'll be a better team in the regular season this year than last year. I think there's areas for several of their players to improve. They'll get a much healthier version of Seth Jarvis back. My guess is he'll come back before J.C. Horn. That's my guess.
00:03:57
Speaker 1: God, that hurts.
00:03:58
Speaker 3: I mean, good for Jarvis, but that hurts.
00:04:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, I know.
00:04:01
Speaker 3: I apologize.
00:04:02
Speaker 5: But I think they'll be a better regular season team. And then we'll see how it all falls together in the postseason. It's the most unpredictable of the sports postseason because anybody can beat anybody in the first round. All bets are off in the first round. It's just a goofy way of– it's an incredible sport.
00:04:31
Speaker 4: Mack and I were taken aback by one of your tweets today, a quote tweet saying, From AtKane's Hockey AC, it's a screenshot of new fan etiquette rules at Lenovo Center. Any fan who curses in front of children will now be evicted from the arena. Cursing does not have a place in the game of hockey. We had to ask you, was this real? But it turns out that it is. The Canes are cutting down on cursing at the arena, huh?
00:05:01
Speaker 5: Were they not at their own parade?
00:05:03
Speaker 2: I just thought the same thing. I was like, what about that parade? I mean, my gosh.
00:05:09
Speaker 5: Sebastian Ajo was treating Jordan Stahl like Roy Kent. It was awesome.
00:05:17
Speaker 3: Look, you know, I.
00:05:19
Speaker 5: Think we'd all like to be better around kids, but I think this is sort of like, you know, on the back of the ticket. It tells you that, like, if a puck goes into the stands and it hits you, it's on you. Like, they're just really covering themselves. Hey, look, we told them, like, if somebody gets really abusive, yeah, we'll probably, I'm sure they'll kick him out. But I do have questions. Am I allowed to say H-E double hockey sticks?
00:05:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, we need to know. It's hockey sticks. You should be allowed to. Well, you need to know. You know, old school radio, Goldie, you had those seven words, right? Exactly. We need to know what are the no-nos in the arena.
00:06:02
Speaker 2: I have to tell you, I said this, and I know this doesn't make me a good person.
00:06:06
Speaker 3: It might make me the opposite.
00:06:07
Speaker 5: Uh-oh.
00:06:08
Speaker 2: But I was saying to the boys off the air, Goldie, I can't watch a sporting event without cursing.
00:06:14
Speaker 3: You're a Charlotte sports fan. That's hard for me, man.
00:06:19
Speaker 2: And I get it with kids because I've been there before where I've had my kids and it's like some people are really belligerent about it. But just like a curse word here or there, that feels impossible to me.
00:06:31
Speaker 5: Not to mention that depending on who you are, we all have different thresholds. To me, H-E double hockey sticks It's not a curse, but to some it is. Is Karen going to call security on me?
00:06:52
Speaker 3: That's a good point.
00:06:53
Speaker 2: If you get stuck with a total Karen near you, are they going to listen to her and you said a word that's not that bad one time?
00:07:00
Speaker 4: I tweeted you my theory. This is brilliant. You can keep the Northeastern fans out now.
00:07:07
Speaker 5: Oh, the Rangers fans will be gone by the first TV timeout. They'll go back to Carrie and put on their hurricane jersey. Here's my suggestion. We also turn into Roman Maroney from Johnny Dangerously and just curse like he did. I like that. You've seen the movie, right?
00:07:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, you bargain ice hole. Am I allowed to say that? I think I can say that.
00:07:36
Speaker 5: You're some of the beaches. You're vestiges.
00:07:43
Speaker 3: Yes, vestiges. That was another one. Oh, that's fun. Oh, that's fun.
00:07:47
Speaker 5: So I do believe, though, ref, you suck is okay.
00:07:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, it better be because I know that's going to be done. That'll be done tonight at some point.
00:07:54
Speaker 4: Adam, I feel for the arena workers that if there's a guy banging on the glass and you have to go down there and say, sir, you have to leave, you use a naughty word, good luck with that guy.
00:08:05
Speaker 2: I'm sure everybody's going to take that well. I dropped one F-bomb, and I'm out of the game. I spent $ 200 on tickets.
00:08:12
Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh.
00:08:13
Speaker 2: Now, one last Canes question, Goldie, and I'm sure we can do some football stuff or whatever.
00:08:17
Speaker 3: Will Rod Brindlemore get thrown out, someone asked. Yeah, that's true.
00:08:20
Speaker 1: Oh, man, if a.
00:08:21
Speaker 5: Kid's sitting behind the bench, holy cow.
00:08:24
Speaker 2: Keep the kids away from the bench, y'all, all right? Um, Goldie, I was going to ask about Jarvis. So like, do you know what timeline? And then the other question is Nikitian, the defenseman is, I guess it's a restricted free agent situation where they haven't come to terms. Like, can we just forget about him this year? Like what, what are those two situations?
00:08:47
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the Nikitian one. Uh, let me handle that one first. Uh, there, I mean, he has a new agent, which actually may help Carolina, uh, But ultimately, they value him differently at this point than he values him. So my feeling is that this is probably going to end in a separation and a trade. Who knows what Carolina will bring back? They have interest in Winnipeg's goaltender, Connor Hellebuck, but there's no direct The Hurricanes and Winnipeg aren't good trade partners, and I'm not sure Nikitian wants to go there anyway. Not that he would have to approve. He has no rights. Hurricanes can trade him to whoever they want. But no team's going to take him unless they can sign him. And I don't believe he wants to sign a short-term deal. I think he wants a long-term contract. Hurricanes are not ready to do that with him. I think the Canes would love to buy a look at him for two years. and then make their decision at least during or after this season, but I don't believe that's what they're interested in. in. So I think this is ultimately going to end in a trade. As for Jarvis, according to Eric Tolsky yesterday, if it was up to Seth, he'd play tonight. But he's not really ready for that. And with shoulder surgery, it's always kind of tricky. My feeling is he'll probably miss the first three, four weeks of the season. If I didn't see Seth Jarvis in the lineup until November 1st, I'd be fine with it. I'd actually be fine with it if we didn't see him until December 1st.
00:10:33
Speaker 3: The longer he.
00:10:34
Speaker 5: Stays out, I think the stronger he is.
00:10:36
Speaker 4: How much of your faith in the Panthers took a hit on Sunday with the loss to Cleveland, but also the amount of injuries that are piling up, including J.C.
00:10:46
Speaker 1: Horne?
00:10:47
Speaker 5: I mean, the injuries are the only thing that would shake my faith in the team. I thought, I mean, I thought Bryce played fine. He wasn't great. Certainly wasn't as good as he was in the first two games. But Cleveland's defense, and I said going in, I thought this would be a low-scoring game that the Panthers would just kind of figure out a way to win. And they could have. They certainly could have. But Cleveland's got a legit defense, even without Myles Garrett. So... I was not surprised that it was more difficult. I think the injuries to me are the real problem. And as I said before the season started, I know Horn and Jackson hurt. That's a problem. And they'll have to figure out a way around that. That means more pressure on the quarterback. It certainly wasn't good that Devin Lloyd wasn't available. I think that has a lot to do with why the game played out the way it did. But I've been telling you, the two guards, I know Robert Hunt hasn't been great to start the season, and now Damian Lewis has banged up. And he was sort of in and out of training camp's lineup. That is my biggest concern for this team. because it speaks to whether or not they can run the ball effectively.
00:11:59
Speaker 2: It does, and those tackles, too. I wonder how long until we can get at least one of Moten or Icky back. That would certainly help as well. What did you think, real quick, Goldie? What did you think of the way Dave Doran, it was feisty Dave. You get this from Dave from time to time. It amuses me. What did you think of Dave when he ended his press conference? If they blow a 21-point lead against App but finish with the last 10 points, And he says, by the way, we won that game. What did you think of that feisty Dave moment?
00:12:32
Speaker 5: I thought his– look, that's what Dave– that's Dave, right, in a nutshell. I don't know why anybody thought that this would be a blowout. Maybe because it was 21-0 in 28-7. But State isn't so good where they're going to blow anybody out other than Richmond. And App is feisty, plus the game– You know, it's in some ways at Super Bowl when you're playing NC State. I thought it was a– I saw the game I thought I was going to see. High-scoring game where State won by about a touchdown. Okay, good. You know, could Dave have chosen better words than to use lynch mob? Okay, I think that's a little extreme.
00:13:14
Speaker 3: I caught that, too.
00:13:16
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not using it in the sense where lynching is, you know, something so egregious for Dave Dorn to say. I'm just saying, I don't think people really are looking at it in the way Dave is reacting to it. I think fans are frustrated because the team, really, fans are frustrated. If they had beaten Vanderbilt, I don't think we would see this. But they're still sore over the fact that they lost that game that they should have won. And they felt like maybe the whole thing was sort of mismanaged. And I do. I thought that game was mismanaged at the end. But with all that said, I think Dave was a little bit in his feels, and I think that, like, I wasn't at the game, so maybe he was hearing it from the fans because they blew the 21-point lead, and that game was, what, 31 apiece deep into the fourth quarter. Yeah, yeah.
00:14:11
Speaker 3: All right, Goldie, you rock, man.
00:14:13
Speaker 2: That was a great preview of the Canes on the ice and in the stands. Appreciate you. Enjoy the opener, man. We'll talk to you next week.
00:14:22
Speaker 5: F-yeah!
Speaker 1: We're live, everybody. We're live, live, live.
