00:00:13
Speaker 1: He's not giving the play a chance because he's too quick with his drop. He's too quick off of it and he's missing opportunities. And again, I'm not saying it happens every time because he's making a lot of plays. But when he misses things like this, a lot of it is because of the footwork and not being clean with his footwork and getting back and getting set and timing it up with his routes. So he can make big plays down the field. So just something to pay attention to with Bryce Young. It's been a theme throughout his career. I feel like at times he's gotten better. But now I see him back to kind of the short, hoppy drops. And it's messing up his ability to set his feet and throw. And it's messing up the way that things work around him to allow the offense, the offensive line, the pocket to work in his favor.
00:01:01
Speaker 2: That is Kurt Warner.
00:01:03
Speaker 3: We're talking about what needs to be changed in order for the Panthers to get that mojo back. Kurt Warner would like to see Bryce Young change some things there. That's from Kurt Warner's study ball video series. And we do know, Bone, that when Bryce Young has struggled in the past, footwork has been a thing.
00:01:25
Speaker 2: Um, it is, it has been a, something that has been a problem.
00:01:28
Speaker 3: And it sounds like Kurt thinks that under the pressure he's been under lately, he is reverting back to some of those habits. And I play that because not to invigorate the Bryce shouters, doubters, and haters on the text line, although I'm sure it could do that. But I, I, I say that I play that bone to give us some context on, yeah, Bryce is not handling it well right now. I believe the root cause is the old lines performance. But Bryce Young is not handling it necessarily the way he did, Bone, I would say in the first five games even when he was under pressure.
00:02:05
Speaker 4: There has to be a correlation of the pressure gets to him. It messes with him mentally. He's not seeing the field as well. So then, Mac, the fundamentals are going away. The footwork's going away because he's starting to feel, he's starting to see things. When he's confident and he trusts the offensive line, that's when we're getting those big-time Bryce performances. When the offensive line breaks down to the point it is, when it's starting to go a negative way, I think Bryce starts to rush it a little bit, and that's when the footwork really starts to go away. So I understand what he's saying.
00:02:39
Speaker 3: It is weird, though, because for the first five games, he was the most pressured quarterback, but he also was leading the league in yards per game. He was overcoming it. Now the pressure's getting there quicker in the last two games. It's getting there with four-man rushes.
00:02:56
Speaker 2: A lot, three-man rushes. They had a sack on a three-man rush Thursday night, and Tampa had one, too. So it's like guys are back in coverage.
00:03:06
Speaker 4: Does the footwork get out of whack if his knee's not feeling right also? Well, that's another thing, too. He doesn't seem to be able to escape as freely.
00:03:13
Speaker 2: He gets out of there quickly. He's fine. Whereas in the past, he made a play.
00:03:17
Speaker 3: I went backbone and watched the game because I hate myself, but I went back and I watched the game on Sunday night.
00:03:24
Speaker 2: Cause I'm like, that was so matter of fact, let.
00:03:27
Speaker 3: Me see good, bad, ugly. And I watched that dry bone, the drive in.
00:03:32
Speaker 2: The second half. I mean the drive.
00:03:34
Speaker 3: And he made some plays there, got it out quick over the middle, set guys up with yards.
00:03:39
Speaker 2: You have to catch. He made a play where he actually finally.
00:03:42
Speaker 3: Got out, escaped the pocket to the right quickly and made a play that um, to Darren Waller.
00:03:48
Speaker 2: And it's like, he's got to hit that eject button quicker.
00:03:51
Speaker 3: If you're not as quick because of your knee, you might have to hit it a little quicker and get the heck out of there. I don't know, man, we're all just spit balling, but we all have the same interest.
00:04:02
Speaker 2: We want are Panthers.
00:04:04
Speaker 3: To try to win this very winnable division, still leading by a half game. But they've got to turn so much around. Their first move, obviously, Bone, was the Avero move. And Todd Walsh has a pretty good D coordinator resume, but he's not Doug Henning.
00:04:20
Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
00:04:21
Speaker 3: He's not David Copperfield. Those are the only magicians I know. David Blaine.
00:04:26
Speaker 4: That's it.
00:04:26
Speaker 2: That's all I got. He can't work magic.
00:04:29
Speaker 4: You got your guy Penn and Teller.
00:04:32
Speaker 2: Penn and Teller. There you go. Which one? He was the quiet one? That is Teller, I think. Yeah, you're not him. The little guy? You're Penn. I'm Teller. What do you think? Mac Weatherman, Mark, again. He got ideas or is he just complaining? Upset with us. Oh, no.
00:04:49
Speaker 4: We are part of the Bryce hating problem. Don't we get called Bryce Homers like 50 times a day?
00:04:55
Speaker 2: Yes.
00:04:55
Speaker 4: So what in the world is Mark listening to?
00:04:57
Speaker 2: What's it not like?
00:04:59
Speaker 4: All we're doing is trying to figure out what's gone wrong here. We play Kurt Warner audio. Where exactly do we hate on Bryce when we said his confidence is low because the offensive line has been terrible and his mechanics are out of whack and maybe his knee has something to do with that. Where is that hating on Bryce? We're trying to figure out why he has not performed as well the last couple of games. We can't say that he's performed great the last couple of games because he hasn't.
00:05:22
Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think you can put it just 100% on the O-line. He hasn't been handling the pressure well. Listen to what Mark says on this text. Weatherman Mark says, you guys are full of bleep. You keep adding to the freaking Bryce hating problem. Bryce is not the freaking problem. Get over it.
00:05:36
Speaker 2: And Kurt Warner is a dumbass. You guys keep feeding this crap.
00:05:40
Speaker 3: Every show, that Bryce is the whole problem, and this is BS, dude. We had a whole argument on Friday because— There's.
00:05:49
Speaker 2: Something dumb involved here, and it's not us. First of all, Kurt.
00:05:52
Speaker 3: Warner's a football dumbass, Mark. What does that make the rest of us? Secondly, you're right, Bone. On Friday— All the Bryce bashers were circling us like buzzards trying to tell us we're defending Bryce too much. We, we won't give him any blame. We're trying to be fair about it. Clearly he's not handling it the best, but the root cause, the majority of the blame is the O-line. Why does that have to cause a grown man to throw a hissy fit?
00:06:21
Speaker 4: I don't get it. Weatherman Mark is all over the place. This is why I struggle with communication with Mark, because he's either like really positive, like way on one side, or he's way negative. And I never know. Whatever answer I give him, it's not the right answer. So I've decided I don't answer that many times.
00:06:40
Speaker 3: Big Cat Dan says the book since last season is to keep Bryce in the pocket. It needs to scheme him out when defenses are trying to do that. Yeah, I almost feel like, Bo, we talked about this on Friday, somehow still got called Bryce Homer's an apologist. But I said, I think you can see he gets jittery, right?
00:06:58
Speaker 2: He's feeling pressure before it's there on some of these plays. It's in his head. How can it not be? This happens.
00:07:04
Speaker 3: Tom Brady, I've seen, I saw the Panthers do it to Tom Brady one time at the state. Like, there are games where when he's under siege, Mahomes in a Super Bowl.
00:07:12
Speaker 2: And it just gets in their head.
00:07:14
Speaker 4: I mean, there's that image of Aaron Rodgers back with his helmet on sideways. Bryce hasn't had that happen yet. So Big Cat Dan, I said this Friday too, I like the idea of booting him out more. Just moving the pocket and getting him outside. What are some things? I'd like to lean more on the run game, Bone. I think if you can get the run game going, and I think Chuba's up for it.
00:07:36
Speaker 2: He is a battler.
00:07:38
Speaker 3: I think if we can get this run game going early in games... And then be in second and medium. Be in third and short. And not be in third and longs. You're in third and long with this offensive line. You are screwed, man. But I think there's something there in the run game.
00:07:55
Speaker 4: If the offensive line was playing at a higher level, I swear to you. I would probably bring up Jonathan Taylor more often than we brought him up here. Just to go full, not Buccaneers run game, Mac, like they're doing, but a Chuba-Taylor combo, I wouldn't necessarily hate that. But the offensive line is playing so poor now that I would hate for us to make a trade for someone like that and really add to the run game. And then the offensive line just doesn't allow us to get the most out of that. It's intriguing to me. I'm not saying they would do that, but it certainly intrigues me to some degree.
00:08:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure.
00:08:31
Speaker 3: I mean, are there other positions we would– I mean, O-line would be a nice one to make a trade for. I know people keep bringing up Powers Johnson. He's had a rough year in his third year, but he was a day-two draft pick as an interior lineman out there with the Raiders now.
00:08:47
Speaker 2: I'm thinking smaller.
00:08:48
Speaker 3: I'm thinking get me Brooks back and just use him in the pass game. Run screens to alleviate the pressure.
00:08:55
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:08:56
Speaker 3: Give Bryce a quick option out in space in Jonathan Brooks. I'm a little less lofty, but I get what you're saying because you do have to get, you have to lean more.
00:09:05
Speaker 2: On the run game. You have to. If they can't run the football and you become, you.
00:09:11
Speaker 4: Know, past-centric, these teams are going to tee off on Bryce Eman. Powers Johnson sounds like a Phitty alias.
00:09:20
Speaker 3: Panther Phit, how the hell can Canales and company turn this thing around, Phit?
00:09:26
Speaker 2: What are you thinking?
00:09:27
Speaker 6: Yeah, pray might be the first thing they got.
00:09:30
Speaker 4: To start doing.
00:09:30
Speaker 2: Oh, no.
00:09:31
Speaker 7: Because, Mac, like, I came in on Friday, and I was in a really good spot coming off the loss to Green Bay. And then we did the show Friday, did the show yesterday, and maybe because I worked with Flounder, who, I mean, just gave me nothing positive to think about with my football team, it feels very bleak. Like, I don't know if their issues are correctable. And that's a real sad place to be.
00:10:00
Speaker 6: As a fan.
00:10:01
Speaker 3: Boom, Panther Fitty. We lost Panther Fitty here, man. Tar Heel Fitty's on the ropes after last night.
00:10:07
Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm texting back. Panther City's on the canvas.
00:10:10
Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm distracted. I'm texting back Ice-T right now about the election.
00:10:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, make sure you correspond with him. I got Petey Pablo texting me.
00:10:17
Speaker 4: I don't think this is real Ice-T from SVU. Oh, man.
00:10:23
Speaker 2: All right. Sorry, go ahead. Fitty, we have lost you, man. This is sad. There's got to be, you got nothing. You got nothing to even try, Fitty. Like to me, give me Sam Hecht at center.
00:10:34
Speaker 3: Give me Brady Christensen at one of the tackle spots and get me Fortner and Rasheed Walker on the pine. Like try, you got to go down swinging.
00:10:44
Speaker 6: That's the thing, right?
00:10:45
Speaker 2: You've got to go down and swing it.
00:10:46
Speaker 3: It's no guarantee to produce great results, but you've got to try things, don't you?
00:10:51
Speaker 6: You made a coordinator change.
00:10:53
Speaker 7: That signals that there's a sense of urgency, that there's pressure here. Like Dave Canales is feeling the pressure. You don't see those types of moves unless you're not.
00:11:02
Speaker 6: Can he push?
00:11:03
Speaker 7: We're going to learn a lot about Dave Canales over the final two months of the regular season.
00:11:07
Speaker 6: Can he push the right buttons?
00:11:10
Speaker 7: To get this thing fixed because Mac, this is like, this is why you gave up play calling duties is to be able to manage your football team better on a day-to-day basis. You don't have to worry about putting together a game plan. He was willing to make a coordinator change that probably should have been made, but didn't have to be made at the point in the season. He went ahead and made it hopefully this weekend while he was, you know, locked up in the building, which I'm glad to hear that they found something that they think they can work on this week in practice and, and they could get this thing turned around on Sunday.
00:11:41
Speaker 2: But you got nothing. But you got nothing. Finney said, Coach, good luck. I got nothing for you.
00:11:45
Speaker 4: Well, I have a serious idea, Mac. You know the schoolyard move, and we would see it in the Little Rascals when someone gets down in the schoolyard and they push someone over? Like the other guy doesn't know the person's down there on all fours? Can we try that with the offensive line at some point? Like maybe Stone Forsythe, Mac, sneaks by, and then Rasheed Walker pushes the guy over.
00:12:03
Speaker 2: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:12:05
Speaker 3: We all hands on deck here, my friend. Thomas says, I'm desperate, boys. I put Stone Forsythe in at one of the tackle spots. I went Brady Christensen, but there's no dumb answers. When it comes to the O-line right now, it is that bad that I feel like trying anything is worth considering. Panther Bo says he's with Finney. This team has killed his Panther ego right now. John says, Mack on here asking, like, Canales got about 15 buttons to push. When you got this O-line... When you got that cornerback injury situation, maybe you're just screwed.
00:12:39
Speaker 2: But if he thought they were screwed, would they have, would they have fired a zero of arrow?
00:12:43
Speaker 3: But zero of arrow is, is, is also probably something that he can point to and say, I'm trying.
00:12:49
Speaker 2: Right? I'm feeling heat, but I am trying.
00:12:52
Speaker 4: Someone thinks that Panther Phinney is sad because this would be where he goes back to the Cowboys, but they're worse than the Panthers are right now.
00:12:59
Speaker 2: Man's got no options, baby.
00:13:01
Speaker 7: We're not doing that, Mac. I may be down and I may be out. I'm still picking them to win on Friday. They're still going to beat the Broncos.
00:13:09
Speaker 2: There's our guy.
00:13:10
Speaker 4: Have you ever considered maybe going the other way?
00:13:13
Speaker 6: This is as close as I've ever been to picking the opponent.
00:13:16
Speaker 2: Maybe shake it up. Maybe we all pick against him.
00:13:18
Speaker 7: The first time is not going to be Sean Payton and the team that beat us in Super Bowl.
00:13:22
Speaker 8: 50, though.
00:13:22
Speaker 3: Maybe the following week. Of all times for that bum. for that punchable face having bum to come in here. I'm catching some flack.
00:13:29
Speaker 2: Here, Bo.
00:13:30
Speaker 3: People are very, I can tell it's hurting you. People are very triggered by me suggesting Brooks in the passing game could be part of the solution. I've been told he is done. I've been told it's over for Brooks. Give it up, Mac. This dude said Mac clinging to Jonathan Brooks is the saddest thing I've heard yet. How do you feel.
00:13:52
Speaker 2: About that, Bo?
00:13:53
Speaker 4: We're about one injury away from Brooks is done.
00:13:57
Speaker 2: Brooks is done. But I was like, let me get in the joke first.
00:14:00
Speaker 4: I mean, it's hard because we still haven't seen him. But at some point, I mean, it's just never going to be what it is. But I'm not ready to say no yet. Let's see him get one more run here. Yeah, what do we got to lose? And see if he gets sustained success. I mean, yeah, we're a... We're a city that saw Thomas Davis come back from the football dead and have a near Hall of Fame career. So let's just see what he has, not give up on the guy. It's getting close, Matt, to the point of, all right, well, what is he? But we haven't even seen him really get going yet to evaluate him just as a player in general. I mean, his body keeps betraying him. We don't even know what he can do still.
00:14:37
Speaker 3: Like when Dave Canales says that he is, could be active, the 21-day window could be activated here.
00:14:45
Speaker 2: He said it about XL too. Notice I'm not mentioned in XL.
00:14:48
Speaker 3: Like I don't even know Bone with, because of the, the limits on the amount of guys they can bring back from IR. I'm not even sure it's prudent. Cause you know, Mike, Jack and Horn are going to be used and they're starting to get to the bottom of it. I would bring back Brooks before XL. I, and I'm not even talking about, I'm not acting like he's got to play like he's Franco Harris and grind the ball up the gut.
00:15:07
Speaker 2: I'm just talking about when you're trying to Bone.
00:15:09
Speaker 3: Deal with pressure and get the ball out quick to weapons and Maybe getting him in space.
00:15:14
Speaker 2: If we're desperate, I don't understand why that's not worth a try.
00:15:19
Speaker 3: I'm not on here guaranteeing you he's going to beat a Cal Ripken of football. He's going to beat a J.J. Jansen of running backs. I'm just saying it's worth a try to use him in that way. Yeah, like you're saying, what do you have to lose? Finney, do you have a friend named Bears Brian Finney? Not that I'm aware of.
00:15:36
Speaker 4: Why? He sent in a text that you called him last night on the way back from Chapel Hill asking if there's any room on the Bears bandwagon.
00:15:43
Speaker 8: Oh!
00:15:44
Speaker 2: We're not doing this. Panther Finney!
00:15:47
Speaker 4: I don't want to believe it, but did you make it?
00:15:48
Speaker 6: I hate the Bears.
00:15:49
Speaker 4: Let me see your phone, Finney.
00:15:54
Speaker 3: Finney's turning over his phone like it's like Bone's an investigator here or something.
00:15:59
Speaker 2: Are you looking for Bears Brian in the calls?
00:16:02
Speaker 4: You called a man named Brian at 11.04 p.m. last night.
00:16:04
Speaker 2: Oh, fitty, damn. That's not true.
00:16:09
Speaker 4: Don't you go lying about me.
00:16:13
Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
00:16:15
Speaker 3: This texter says, Mac, are y'all not getting text about how Todd Walsh is going to change everything on the defense and lead this team to a division title? I thought the Avero haters would be fired up. Something interesting has happened here, Bo. People have not exactly been filled with all this confidence because Averro's gone.
00:16:35
Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
00:16:36
Speaker 4: I think they realize that Todd Walsh ran the defensive line.
00:16:39
Speaker 2: That's also been part of these run games. It is kind of true.
00:16:45
Speaker 3: I would have thought y'all were so down on Averro that you thought any human being, much less a guy like Todd Walsh, who's had three top 10 defenses as a coordinator in this league, It really hasn't been like, oh, Todd Walsh is going to run a 4-3.
00:16:59
Speaker 2: Todd Walsh is going to do this and that. There hasn't been a lot of that.
00:17:03
Speaker 4: Well, I think some of the fans thought, oh, maybe Sean McDermott comes in for the year. There were some people that really thought that. So I tried to explain to people, Shaquille Bartle, that just because you fire the coach doesn't mean that schematically everything's going to change. Players aren't changing. Not within the season. So, yes, if you fire– there's not a– They were saying the other day, Matt, there's actually not a ton of coordinators in the league. They're actually fired during the seasons, less than you think, because it doesn't really ultimately change a whole lot to do it within the season.
00:17:34
Speaker 3: No, there's only one I can think of. Baltimore made an OC change, went to Cam Cameron, they went to the Super Bowl. But that's off the top of my head. But like OC or DC change and you go.
00:17:47
Speaker 2: Make a run? Like, you know what I mean?
00:17:49
Speaker 3: I don't feel like it's a normal thing. Because it goes back to what the goal... Well, I don't think it was... I was giving Junior credit for what Senior said. I think it goes back to what Golik Senior said on Friday. Says you can change philosophy, but you can't change the scheme in the middle of the season like that. There's only so much you can really change. Like, people want to go to a 4-3, but... A, I don't think we're going to see that. Although I have to be honest with you, we do have three starting caliber linebackers in a 4-4-4-3. Tyrell Dodson's not playing. And to me, he's a starting caliber linebacker. Another thing I would say, Two-Bone, your base defense is like the Panthers run base about 30% of the time. So like when we get caught up in 3-4-4-3, it really only applies to 30%.
00:18:30
Speaker 5: Of the plays.
00:18:33
Speaker 4: Mac, I have some startling stats on D.C. changes midseason.
00:18:37
Speaker 2: Ready for this?
00:18:38
Speaker 8: Yes.
00:18:38
Speaker 4: Since 2010, teams that fired their D.C. midseason compiled a record of 15 and 37 with their replacement coordinators. Only two teams in that time period have a 500 record when firing their D.C. midseason, the 2015 Saints and the 2020 Jets. So that's not boding well for us right there. No, it's not.
00:18:59
Speaker 3: History is not in our corner. Bone, I got good news for you. Weatherman Mark is back together with you. Weatherman Mark says, and I can't do the impression that Willie could do so well, but he says, I agree with Bone. We should go after Jonathan Taylor, Hubbard, and Taylor in the backfield would be awesome.
00:19:17
Speaker 4: I would like off this roller coaster, please.
00:19:19
Speaker 2: That's going to be a pricey trade, though. That's going to be a big draft collab. No, I don't think that will be.
00:19:23
Speaker 4: It's very intriguing of stylistically how the offense would. And then all of a sudden, you know, the less pressure on Bryce, both– literally from the offensive line and just having to carry it would be a big deal. When we come back, Stro Show. Ashley Strohlein joins us next. Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ.
00:19:56
Speaker 3: I wanna bathe in your light, babe.
00:19:59
Speaker 2: All day, all night, babe. Make me wanna say, hey. .
00:20:05
Speaker 3: .
00:20:10
Speaker 2: All right, let's do it. That's Stroh's music, everybody.
00:20:14
Speaker 3: Ashley Strohlein joining us right now for The Stroh Show, everybody. I'm being told, Bone, The Stroh Show is on the road this week at Mama Stroh's abode in the great state or commonwealth, I should say, of Virginia.
00:20:30
Speaker 2: The Stroh Zone. She is Ashley Strohlein. Stroh, what's going on?
00:20:36
Speaker 8: Good morning, guys. How are you?
00:20:37
Speaker 2: What's happening?
00:20:38
Speaker 3: Is the squirrel gravy on the stove right now, Stro?
00:20:42
Speaker 8: I told City, I said, actually, we are going to have biscuits and gravy, but, you know, Mama Stro doesn't do squirrel gravy. It's pork chop gravy. So can you hear the pork chops frying if I put this on? Anyways, they got the pork chops.
00:20:54
Speaker 2: Oh, I hear it. Live frying.
00:20:58
Speaker 8: And then you take the pork chop grease and put the gravy in there, and that's how you get the flavor of the gravy.
00:21:03
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm getting hungry.
00:21:03
Speaker 4: I'm getting hungry. If we hear a squirrel running around, we're going to have to stop the.
00:21:07
Speaker 2: Show, though.
00:21:09
Speaker 8: You know, actually, the way mom treats the animals here, just to give you, like, she puts... we don't, you know, we have like a, I'll send you guys some pictures and videos when we get off of the phone, but like we have like a whole like family of deer that come down that she puts corn out for that just, that just live on the property. She does the same for the squirrels and, and in a very sweet, sincere way, not because any of, any of those are going to be something that we're eating later. They just live here and enjoy everything. So let me be clear before.
00:21:40
Speaker 2: Not in an Excel type of way.
00:21:41
Speaker 6: All right.
00:21:42
Speaker 2: I got you.
00:21:43
Speaker 3: What was, before we get to our somewhat depressing Charlotte sports developments here, Stro, I'd like to ask when you were growing up, what was your favorite like Southern dish that mama Stro made?
00:21:57
Speaker 5: Hmm.
00:21:58
Speaker 8: Oh, man, that's good. I mean, when I come home, I do always ask for biscuits and gravy because it's just not the same as anything else. But, I mean, there's a great peach cobbler that mom makes. Man, let's, you know, let's ask mom, what do you think my favorite dish you made was when I was growing up? Throw that. I put her on the spot.
00:22:22
Speaker 2: Uh-oh. Now she's nervous.
00:22:24
Speaker 4: We're here for you.
00:22:25
Speaker 2: Play the Jeopardy theme, Finn.
00:22:27
Speaker 8: You know, she said I always ate a variety of stuff, like stuff from the garden. Like, you know, she grows a garden, so there's nothing like, you know, fresh veggies and... Yeah, she said cooked cabbage, corn.
00:22:40
Speaker 2: Oh, she lost me. She lost me on cooked cabbage.
00:22:42
Speaker 4: I've heard rumors of these things.
00:22:44
Speaker 8: Cooked cabbage is good. I'm telling you guys. I could be.
00:22:48
Speaker 2: I could be.
00:22:50
Speaker 2: I could be dead and I wouldn't eat cabbage. She threw this out.
00:22:55
Speaker 8: You guys might judge me for this one. She goes, chicken livers. You love chicken livers. And then she just asked if I want those for supper. I think they're pretty great.
00:23:03
Speaker 2: Oh, dang. Chicken livers, you go.
00:23:06
Speaker 7: All right.
00:23:06
Speaker 2: I don't know if I can go there. That's about the only part of the chicken I don't eat.
00:23:10
Speaker 4: Mama Stroh, we appreciate the invite, but we'll just eat dinner over here tonight.
00:23:13
Speaker 8: Thank you.
00:23:13
Speaker 2: Oh, man.
00:23:14
Speaker 8: So, Stroh. You'd have one meal that she cooked and you'd go back for seconds.
00:23:19
Speaker 2: Oh, some of it.
00:23:19
Speaker 3: Even if it's... some of it's making me hungry it's sounding good all right so let that pork chop that pork chop's got me right now Stroh, when we get really high, when things are going good for the Panthers, you're usually level-headed, saying, I don't feel good, getting all overconfident.
00:23:37
Speaker 2: How do you.
00:23:38
Speaker 3: Feel right now that they've lost two in a row? The O-line's struggling. The cornerbacks are hurt. We're down to our fifth cornerback and sixth cornerback. And then Avero gets fired. Are you feeling like, oh my, this could be a doomed season? Or do you not get... too low either when things get like this.
00:24:00
Speaker 8: You know, I, I try to stay even kill us as they say, but I mean, I think the hardest thing for the Panthers, in my opinion, has just been like so many injuries. I mean, it's the season kind of started that way.
00:24:14
Speaker 4: Right.
00:24:14
Speaker 8: And so it's great. People come back. Like we were so excited for Moten to come back and then Unfortunately, he had a season-ending injury, and so those are the things that we always talk about. Like, you just can't predict, but I.
00:24:28
Speaker 8: You know, I was driving by Dilworth Neighborhood Grill, and I don't know if you've seen their latest sign, but it's like 7 and 10 gets us in. Like, keep saying it, keep drinking or.
00:24:37
Speaker 2: Something like that. 7 and 10 gets us in. Why is that not a chant we've done here?
00:24:44
Speaker 8: I'm just saying, even they found a way to make it positive this week.
00:24:47
Speaker 3: It is the NFC South, Bo. Like, we've got to keep reminding us.
00:24:52
Speaker 4: God's division, there's always a chance. A little prayer. Some Sunday, some Sunday help along the way, and you never know what may happen. Someone said, Astro, if she likes Fat Mac, is that a Finney joke?
00:25:05
Speaker 5: Wow.
00:25:06
Speaker 2: That's cold. That's Dr.
00:25:07
Speaker 8: Suave.
00:25:08
Speaker 4: That's cold, man. I don't know what Fat Mac is. I thought it was a joke about one of us.
00:25:14
Speaker 6: You've never had Fat Mac?
00:25:15
Speaker 4: Never had Fat Mac.
00:25:15
Speaker 2: I've never had Fat Mac either. I've been called that before. What exactly is Fat Mac? It literally.
00:25:23
Speaker 8: fat taken from the back of a pig right.
00:25:26
Speaker 3: So that sounds good i really love fat i'm not gonna lie to you i do it's so juicy and tasty salty oh salty i'm in i think i'm in on this i'm the dude that like loves the fat on the side of my ribeye steak and christina my wife thinks it's disgusting and i'm just like but.
00:25:45
Speaker 2: All the taste is in that fat all the juice is in that fat I'm going to have to Google what it is.
00:25:52
Speaker 8: I just had a conversation with someone about that, and I don't like the fat on my steak. I just don't. I don't want to chew it for the next seven minutes.
00:26:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's part of it. I think the texture... Like Mrs.
00:26:06
Speaker 3: Mac tells me the texture kind of like in her mouth kind of grosses her out. Like, but I don't know, man. It's so tasty. I'll be laughing over there. What are you getting?
00:26:17
Speaker 2: Finnegan immature. Oh, my gosh. There goes throw segment. Reel it in. Reel it in. Her mom's listening here.
00:26:29
Speaker 4: Everyone act normal.
00:26:33
Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
00:26:34
Speaker 3: This dude said Mac and Bone's southern cards that they worked so hard to achieve are gone because they haven't had fat back.
00:26:42
Speaker 2: Give me some damn fat back right now. I want it.
00:26:46
Speaker 3: I'm asking for it, man. Give me my card back. That liver mush stuff I still don't want to eat. You like liver mush strokes?
00:26:53
Speaker 8: No, that's not my thing.
00:26:55
Speaker 2: No, no, not my jam either.
00:26:59
Speaker 8: There's some things I can't do, but you know, I look, I will say this. I'm a pretty good sport in that when it comes to like most food, I'll, I'll try about anything once, but that doesn't mean I need to go back. So, um, and, and also, you know, I've done a lot of traveling, so I've been fortunate to try, you know, different dishes from different places. And I think that's, I like food. That's fun.
00:27:23
Speaker 1: Why not?
00:27:24
Speaker 8: Try a little bit of everything.
00:27:25
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:27:26
Speaker 2: I've got a question about fatback, though. Is fatback... I don't eat.
00:27:30
Speaker 8: It, so I'm probably not going to be the right person to answer.
00:27:35
Speaker 3: Is fatback literally its own, like, what is it, a side?
00:27:37
Speaker 2: Is it literally its own dish, just fat?
00:27:39
Speaker 6: My dad would make it and have, like, sauerkraut with it.
00:27:42
Speaker 2: Okay.
00:27:43
Speaker 7: So, like, he would make other stuff with it, but I do think it's typically eaten as a side, yes.
00:27:49
Speaker 2: Man, fat as a side. I never knew this was an option.
00:27:52
Speaker 3: 704 Bone says, my arteries are clogging just listening to this show.
00:27:57
Speaker 4: I think we have a texter named Fatback.
00:28:00
Speaker 2: There was a crew chief, Fatback McSwain.
00:28:03
Speaker 4: What?
00:28:04
Speaker 3: Was the crew chief for Ricky Rudd at one point? You remember him, Stroh, or is that too far ago?
00:28:10
Speaker 8: It might be too far for me.
00:28:12
Speaker 2: Big old Fatback McSwain. I'm typing it in Google.
00:28:16
Speaker 3: I guarantee you Smoke could tell you the whole resume for Fatback McSwain.
00:28:20
Speaker 4: Oh, my God. If you just saw this guy's face, this guy's probably named Fatback.
00:28:26
Speaker 2: He's appropriately nicknamed. There's stuff down about it.
00:28:29
Speaker 4: He got in a fight with somebody at one point. He got fired after fighting somebody.
00:28:32
Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
00:28:33
Speaker 4: There he is. Michael Fatback McSwain. Oh, he threatened to beat up Kevin Harvick.
00:28:37
Speaker 2: He is.
00:28:38
Speaker 8: Yeah, that just popped up for me. I'm not going to say what the headline says, but threatened to, you know, kind of get into it with Harvick there. After he spun Ricky. Yeah, there you go.
00:28:49
Speaker 2: There it is.
00:28:49
Speaker 3: Didn't a lot of people threaten to beat up Kevin Harvick back in the day?
00:28:52
Speaker 4: Yeah, Fatback retired after threatening to beat up Kevin Harvick.
00:28:55
Speaker 2: There you go. He said, I'm out. I'm done now.
00:28:58
Speaker 5: Stroh.
00:28:58
Speaker 2: Went to the Fatback Ranch. Stroh, what do you think about the Hornets?
00:29:01
Speaker 3: We're starting to get, and I'm trying to urge people like, Hey, Kobe came back last night, but it was a minute's restriction. He only played 16 minutes. Khan is not back yet. Grant Williams is not back yet. People are getting very unnerved watching the offense really struggle and then... You know what I mean? As we go, you know, now two games under 500, lost four in a row. People can't help on the text line to bring up, see, we have declined way too much post-Lomelo.
00:29:32
Speaker 2: How do you feel about, what would you say to fans about that?
00:29:36
Speaker 8: Well, I think you hit on some of the stuff that I've been saying or that I would say is that, you know, you started the season without Kobe, without Khan, without Grant. And I know everyone was excited. Okay, Kobe's back. What's that going to look like? And then he was on a minute's restriction. And I just think it's so hard when you go the whole offseason and you.
00:29:58
Speaker 8: Obviously, you need depth and you've got to have a good bench because we just don't know when things like this are going to happen. But I think you don't even fully know what the product is supposed to be or going to be when everyone is healthy. And you're missing Khan, who was knocking down every shot last year and helping facilitate a lot on offense. And so I think until you get Khan back out there and Kobe back out there, you don't have a great idea of what... this team is supposed to look like this season with, with the five starters and the rotation. We had to, I know we got.
00:30:33
Speaker 2: To be patient. We got to be patient with this a little bit.
00:30:36
Speaker 3: We knew we would, I think bone logic would say we knew we would decline. I think, I think people have bone taken it out on us because we were around 40 wins, but so was Vegas. Like, and we were not, and by the way, we were not anticipating not having these guys for this long.
00:30:52
Speaker 2: During the offseason.
00:30:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought a couple games at most for Khan, and now I thought Khan might be back at the end of last week, and we're still waiting for Khan. I was shocked Kobe came back before that. When he got recalled up from Greensboro, I thought, oh, he's a day away.
00:31:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was the story.
00:31:05
Speaker 4: Because that's normally the routine, and he's still not there. So I'm about to donate my hamstring to the costro.
00:31:11
Speaker 2: My athletic. Okay.
00:31:14
Speaker 8: If you look across the league, I mean, so many– star players for different teams are, are dealing with a hamstring or sitting out because of this or that. And so I, I think it's actually something very interesting, just league wide that I want to someone to do a study on or take a deep dive into is how are all these, you know, soft tissue injuries happening and why, and to start a season. Like I just, I think that's been very interesting this year. And, and obviously, I mean, it's an 82 game regular season and, and, and you have your camp and all that. But I'm just, I think it's been very interesting to see the guys that are already missing time for their team. And I also think you don't want someone to rush back because I think Tyrese Halliburton is a good example of that playing, you know, when he tried to come back and win a championship a couple of seasons ago and he played through it, but ultimately his, you know, he ended up with an Achilles. And so you have to take take the time to rehab these things correctly to last for how long the NBA season is.
00:32:15
Speaker 2: No doubt. No doubt.
00:32:16
Speaker 3: All right, Stroh, I don't know what we accomplished, but I'm very intrigued by Fatback. We learned a lot about the menu at Mama Stroh's.
00:32:24
Speaker 2: They're calling you Fatback McClain now. Fatback McSwain, Fatback McClain, I see you. I'll go with it. What the hell?
00:32:31
Speaker 3: All right, Stroh, it was a great appearance. Send our hellos to Mama Stroh, and we'll talk to you next week.
00:32:41
Speaker 8: Okay, appreciate you guys. I'm going to go enjoy these biscuits and gravy.
00:32:44
Speaker 2: Mama Stroh, we love you. There you go. That sounds good. All right, Ashley Strohlein joining us. Love you, too. Live from Mama Stroh's in Virginia on the Stroh Show.
00:32:53
Speaker 4: What are the odds in one hour whether man Mark and Amit are both upset with us? I mean, this is whether a man who, by the way, very rarely complained. You never see him on Twitter, on the text line. He wants you to stop talking and let her talk back and talk sports. Her mom is there. Stop talking about fatback.
00:33:12
Speaker 2: I'm intrigued, sir.
00:33:13
Speaker 4: I'm intrigued by a fatback. That is Amit. I'm checking my notes here. That is Amit's 15th complaint of the week, and we are on Tuesday. Amit, what makes you happy? I need to know, man. I need to know what makes you happy, man.
00:33:25
Speaker 3: It seems like you have a life that you should be extremely happy with, and I'm not sure you have an ounce of happiness, sir.
00:33:31
Speaker 2: I need to know. What makes you happy?
00:33:33
Speaker 4: I would love an Amit Weatherman mark shower. Actually, that should be the round table.
00:33:38
Speaker 2: You and Weatherman Mark are going round and round, bro. This has been going on for a half hour.
00:33:43
Speaker 4: Because he exhausts me in my personal life anyway, so by the time we get to the text line, I'm already worn out.
00:33:49
Speaker 2: Yeah. You get to, yeah.
00:33:51
Speaker 4: I get a lot of Weatherman Mark. You get in close with these guys. You get, like, texting, and it's just, ooh. I nuzzle up to these listeners. Weatherman Mark, you the man, baby.
00:33:59
Speaker 3: All right? I got love for you. You're a little volatile, though, fella. Well, that's why I'm going to. You're a little volatile.
00:34:03
Speaker 2: I'm going to.
00:34:04
Speaker 4: You are now.
00:34:04
Speaker 2: I'm going to give you. Weatherman, mark your number. No, I don't have any interest in that. I like it. No, no. We can hang out during the show, Marky Mark. All right, baby? You don't want his number?
00:34:14
Speaker 8: I got boundaries.
00:34:14
Speaker 4: You don't want the every possession basketball text?
00:34:18
Speaker 2: Oh, man.
00:34:21
Speaker 4: When we come back, it's the wrap-up. We get you set for... What's going on tonight, Matt? What's going on here?
00:34:27
Speaker 2: College football playoff rankings, baby. College football playoff rankings. I knew that.
00:34:30
Speaker 4: Kane's playing tonight. Kane's playing tonight. Sports Radio 92.7.
00:35:00
Speaker 5: No, my understanding is that I think the president has been set that it's just a one game suspension I still don't understand why he got sent off I think there was two people in the stadium who saw the incident which was the lad Carter Hayner I think it was who ran up to the referee and VAR who spent time to put his cup of tea down and have a look at something I suppose and There was words said to Maxi before, Maxi's restraint was what he was purported to have done, probably more restraint than I would have had, I'd probably chinned him if he'd said that to me but.
00:35:48
Speaker 8: It happens.
00:35:50
Speaker 2: He would have chinned the bloke. I love it.
00:35:53
Speaker 3: I'm guessing that is a term used over an England boat. I would have chinned him. We would say I would have punched him or something like that. So he actually applauds Maxie's restraint. Alan St. Maximum, star player for Charlotte FC, had his first home goal. Didn't miss a penalty, but it was followed up by a decoray bone in his first.
00:36:14
Speaker 2: Charlotte FC goal. But the headline is that he....
00:36:19
Speaker 3: Grabbed the goodies in a gesture towards a guy that was talking trash to him. Dean says he said something pretty bad. And that goody grab bone has cost him the rest of the game Saturday. And he is out because of the red card. He is out for this Saturday's game at Miami. Huge game as we battle for the four seed, man.
00:36:37
Speaker 4: Mac, I have your answer. Chindom is a British slang term. We need to punch him in the face.
00:36:41
Speaker 2: I love that. Thank you. And in the gym. Thank you for looking that up.
00:36:44
Speaker 4: There wasn't a lot of mystery to what that meant.
00:36:47
Speaker 3: I love the way that, and I hear it so much being a soccer fan. I hear so much British commentaries and podcasts and stuff like that. I just love the way we speak the same language, English, but we have so many different expressions.
00:37:00
Speaker 2: Things sound so different.
00:37:02
Speaker 3: Like I'll give you an example, not that anybody asked for it, Bone, but they like during a soccer broadcast, they'll say he just about got there. like a defender was going after the ball, he just about got there. Well, they mean he got there in time. When we say just about got there, it meant, oh, he almost got.
00:37:21
Speaker 4: There in time.
00:37:22
Speaker 2: So it's just things like that are weird. And Jess.
00:37:24
Speaker 3: The stuff Jess said, like, it's just funny. It's the same language, but it really ain't.
00:37:29
Speaker 2: The same language.
00:37:30
Speaker 4: My favorite British announcer is actually Willie P. He uses a lot of those terms and expressions. I learn a lot of stuff from Willie P.
00:37:36
Speaker 3: P-Man can work in some British soccer talk, man, some slang.
00:37:39
Speaker 2: There ain't no doubt about it.
00:37:40
Speaker 3: Tomorrow, Willie P on why he has developed a Wegmans addiction, now that the lines are down at Wegmans and he.
00:37:47
Speaker 4: Can comfortably get in and out. Usually, Willie P is usually not one to admit weakness, but I feel like he was reaching out yesterday for some help.
00:37:53
Speaker 7: He was.
00:37:55
Speaker 3: I got to ask about these $ 14. 99 subs.
00:37:58
Speaker 4: Usually Willie's not one to say I have a problem, but I feel like right now this is getting serious. How often is he going that we don't know about? And if you see him out there, please send us a photo. Oh my goodness. By the way, let's read some of these texts.
00:38:11
Speaker 3: We got college football playoff rankings announced tonight for the first time. Looking forward to that. We should probably stay calm. It's only week one of the rankings. We'll see if we stay calm. We'll see where Wake is. That's the big one. I think we're looking for some damn respect for Wake. And also you got Canes tonight in action and match it. Two games of Maction tonight, Bone, on ESPN, ESPN2.
00:38:36
Speaker 4: Yes.
00:38:36
Speaker 2: Tonight, or ESPN2, ESPNU, I think it might be.
00:38:39
Speaker 4: Teams that I often get confused on who is who, but I'll be there.
00:38:44
Speaker 2: You'll be betting. No, I don't know.
00:38:46
Speaker 4: I haven't been on Maction since last Tuesday.
00:38:48
Speaker 2: Since last Tuesday. I took Wednesday off. Okay, okay.
00:38:51
Speaker 3: All right, let's see what we have on some of these texts here. Speaking of problems, what are you betting on, Maxson?
00:38:58
Speaker 1: 704-570-9610.
00:38:59
Speaker 3: Texters are killing it today. Jacob says, let's see here. Jacob says, I eat my wife's fat, too, when it comes to steaks. um so there you go he also feels bad that uh he said i eat my wife's fat too with no context that piece of i plugged the context in there he's talking steaks.
00:39:17
Speaker 4: That piece of uh steak fat oh that's my god so you like do you like it yeah but i've i've did the i love it i've done some research on it and apparently it's not good for you no you don't say why can't see why can't that be a vegetable? I'd like some Brussels sprouts and some steak fat, please.
00:39:39
Speaker 2: Same with gravy. Gravy should be included on vegetables. It's a shame, isn't it?
00:39:45
Speaker 3: Bagel Guy says Willie P will be adding chindim to his lexicon.
00:39:49
Speaker 2: Very soon.
00:39:51
Speaker 3: Gamecock Moody says Mac's cardiologist just placed an interview.
00:39:55
Speaker 2: Oh my God. I can't speak.
00:39:56
Speaker 3: Mac's cardiologist just placed an order for the new Tesla flying car. Now that Mac knows about fat back, uh, sweet cheek, miss sweet cheek says, uh, she grew up eating a fat back as a side with breakfast.
00:40:13
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm interested. I'm intrigued. Finney's nodding. All right.
00:40:17
Speaker 7: Yeah, my dad would do that, too. You know why you'll really like it, Mac? It's cut like bacon.
00:40:21
Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. Oh, dude, I need some Fat Mac in my life.
00:40:26
Speaker 4: If you didn't think that Fat Mac was going to trend on this show, you were fooled.
00:40:31
Speaker 3: Amit must be real triggered. He wanted me to stop talking Fat Mac about 15 minutes ago. Let's see here. Oh, David, not a Duke fan. All these injuries come down to Charmin soft players. It's the old man yelling at the cloud.
00:40:45
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:40:47
Speaker 4: Homer, Homer, Grandpa Simpson meme. I am not going to claim. Yeah, I'm not going to claim to know how injured everybody is. I just wish they wouldn't be. Somebody says you want to change the Panther season. Throwing screens to J.J. Jansen is the answer. I saw the I saw the Bears. They got flagged for it, but they they handed off to an offensive lineman recently on a play. They were trying to set up something for the future maybe, so I don't know what they were trying to do.
00:41:14
Speaker 3: Maybe our own linemen are better ball carriers than blockers. Maybe that's the twist.
00:41:19
Speaker 4: It wasn't allowed, but there might be some schematical thing they were trying to work on there. I don't know, but maybe handing off to Jansen on a play would be great.
00:41:26
Speaker 3: By the way, the best text that Weatherman Mark sent as he was going back and forth with Bone and flailing and worked up, he says, here we go again. Make fun of my accent like Willie. That's okay. I love where I come from. Willie sounds like Mickey Mouse on steroids anyway.
00:41:42
Speaker 2: Oh, no. Are you kidding?
00:41:46
Speaker 3: Just to show you how positive or not our Panther fans are. Avero might be gone, but Canales is still an idiot. That's a text we got earlier today, but everybody feeling great. No doubt about it. Here's another one.
00:41:59
Speaker 2: This defense is going to be even more washed with wash. Give the man a chance.
00:42:06
Speaker 4: By the way, Mac, Ahmed sent me the official list of what makes him happy.
00:42:10
Speaker 2: Okay, good, good. Eating makes him happy. There you go.
00:42:13
Speaker 4: Wegmans makes him happy. UNC football and Bill Belichick make him happy.
00:42:17
Speaker 2: Okay, good, good.
00:42:18
Speaker 4: Hanging with family and friends makes me happy. And his kids make him happy.
00:42:22
Speaker 2: There you go. How about that? I would focus on all those things a little bit more, maybe. You know what I mean? And Bryce and Caleb Williams and Drake May. And Twitter. Let's see here. Shout out.
00:42:32
Speaker 3: Oh, the texter said Bill Belichick has been friend zoned by Jordan Hudson.
00:42:38
Speaker 2: His grandpa zoned. Pop pop zoned. Oh, my God. Imagine that breakup. Bill, we're done. Oh, my God. Where are you going?
00:42:49
Speaker 4: Cincinnati?
00:42:49
Speaker 2: Where are you going?
00:42:51
Speaker 1: Anywhere?
00:42:52
Speaker 2: Do you care? Yeah, I do.
00:42:55
Speaker 4: A lot.
00:42:56
Speaker 2: I miss you. I love you.
00:42:57
Speaker 4: I want to go cycling in Nantucket.
00:43:00
Speaker 2: Oh, God.
00:43:01
Speaker 3: Dr.
00:43:01
Speaker 2: Suave, shout out to Dr. Suave.
00:43:03
Speaker 3: He says, can you send a shout out for my daughter, Lily, and her high school team, North Stanley Comets. They won a volleyball state championship, the first one ever for the school. Congratulations. Lily Suave and her teammates at North Stanley definitely deserve some congrats for that. Also, a lot of love for Julie Rule's meatball recipe from Salesman today on the show. It says, hang it in the Louvre, Boney. So we've got that going on as well. All right, we're out of here. Good work out of the Bone Man, the Fit Dog. We'll be back here tomorrow trying to figure Charlotte Sports out again one day at a time.
00:43:41
Speaker 2: Charlotte Sports Today coming up next.
