00:00:03
Speaker 1: What's up party people? When or come on side? Oh is Mac and Boa.
00:00:09
Speaker 2: This is my friend.
00:00:10
Speaker 1: Man, I'd rather have a hemorrhoid on my booty today.
00:00:13
Speaker 3: This is my friend.
00:00:16
Speaker 1: On this Tuesday. I'm a swinger. You guys are the best. Panther asked. We got cream Blake. Dude.
00:00:23
Speaker 4: You're listening to the Mack and Bow Show on macin Bow Radio.
00:00:42
Speaker 5: Good morning, Charlotte, Welcome aboard. It's a Tuesday Mac and Bone show. We are one week closer to another Panther game on Saturday afternoon at the brand new stadium in Buffalo.
00:00:53
Speaker 1: Uh.
00:00:53
Speaker 5: We are one day closer to college football, ladies and gentlemen, two weeks plus all week zero. So we we've got things to do. We got some pigskin to talk about. We also got somewhat the bleep stories that should make you laugh on today's show as well. We got a very interesting scrap at Panthers camp that must be discussed. Old Bricey standing up for Jonathan Brooks. I like that so and apparently a twenty minute conversation afterwards. We will discuss that on today's show. We got Panther injury updates. We've got Hall of Fame Game, Radix News, Haines King, Eagles eyeballs baby, that must be said. We got college football things happening to discuss, including a bunch of players in the Carolina's mentioned in national lists.
00:01:42
Speaker 1: How about that. And they're good lists, y'all, They're actually good lists.
00:01:45
Speaker 5: So we've got that going on as well, and we got much much more to talk about on today's Mac and Bone radio show. The bone Man is here, the fit Dog is here. He and I doing well one day after he called me panther ass on the Mac and Bone Show, Boney, We'll see, we'll see what six o'clock Mac can do. But it seems like everybody right now is singing kumba. This is where, first of all, good morning.
00:02:11
Speaker 1: This is where things really get ratcheted up, because not only is it six am Mac, but it's Tuesday Mac as well, so everybody's on. Even buber Volcana today looked like he had a little bit of a trepidation in the hallway. Today.
00:02:24
Speaker 5: They're not messed with me. I'm Tuesday six am Mac. But this is not this is.
00:02:28
Speaker 1: But this is not one job Mac anymore. This is two job Mac. Who was on his new side gig last night. I hear that's true. I'm exhausted. Now I'm working two jobs. I'm exhausted. I now have acquired a big gig as the Sun Valley High School PA announcer for boys soccer. About that, also scoreboard operator, clock operator.
00:02:48
Speaker 5: Oh so I'm a little exhausted today, Bone and being a two job. Did you need to sign up for all that? Or were you just trying to lend the voice? I thought I was just talking. I was like, okay, yes, some of the guys know I can yap. And then I realize, oh crap, I've got to run. This is actual work, this scoreboard. I got to run the clock had no idea they stopped the clock in high school varsityuck, don't go to breck lay on them. I'm not good with clocks. Twice they had to literally stop the game and tell me to put the correct time on the clock because of the clock stop. A gigs soccer is not meant to stop the clock.
00:03:24
Speaker 1: Yell. It's the only it's the only job I've been asked not to return to before was my my soccer PA gig that I had when I first started working here as an intern. I should say. I was the PA voice for the Charlotte Eagles USL team, and they never uh, they didn't retain me. Mack. What happened was there an incident end of the season. They were in a playoff game and I didn't really fully even ask what the overtime rules were of the particular playoff game. So Charlotte Charlotte Eagles scored early on in the overtime when I thought thought it was a victory. So I went, you know, I'm younger. I went full Gus Johnson, Oh, he goes, yeah, I did my whole routine. I realized the crowd's not really good, really into this, and then they got with the guy in the crowd was like, it's not golden goal. I'm like, oh no, I just so the game was still going. Then they lost, and then they lost. Oh my god, that was the original bone terst. They gave up two goals. I'm telling you what the oh my god, that's pretty funny. Yeah, I'm trying not to do something on along those lines. I remember when I was hilarious. I remember when I was leaving, I said to the guy, well, that was a great year. We'll see you next year. I never called it, but I have an idea for you though that is too damn but obviously got your hands full, mag with multiple jobs there. If only there was someone in the area that had a lot of free time that could go run the scoreboard and the clock for yourning.
00:04:52
Speaker 5: Want to run that scoreboard? And I had my wife up there helping me with the clock last night. I think needs to step it. I think so, you think so I I I. I will say this with no comment on the fitty thing. All right, no comment on the fitty thing. I'll have to get that past the powers would be at sun Valley High School. But I will say this in a thriller. Sun Valley tied it on a late free kick and it was a three to three tie. Sun Valley Monroe rivalry game got a little got a little heated, got a little heated in the middle of it, much like much like Panthers practice got heated yesterday, Ladies and gentlemen, Uh, this is an interesting one. And the and and a part of the intrigue in this scrap yesterday bone at Panthers practice is well, there's a lot of angles of intrigue. But part of it is that there are kind of different stories out there about who was involved. We do know this. Jonathan Brooks was running the football and there was a hit that Bryce Young took exception with, and Bryce Young was letting Mike Jackson hear about it. Uh And apparently according to Joe Person, and this back and forth continued for a few minutes. I envisioned they kept practicing bone but during different plays there's Bryce still jawlling with Mike jack about a hit of Jonathan Brooks. Now there, like I said, there are different accounts of this. If you go to Joe Person's article in The Athletic, he says Lathan Ransom and Nick Scott came crashing towards the line of scrimmage for a shot at Brooks. Bryce Young took offense and started drawling with cornerback Mike Jackson. Then it was on, he writes. Luke Fortner came over and offensive tackle Stone Forsyth came over and a defender ended up going to the ground. So you got a bunch of guys defending Jonathan Brooks, who of course is coming off to torn acls. Cassidy Hill at Panthers dot Com, she said it was Mike jack that hit huh, Brooks and that Fortner is the guy that came came in us heard said she thought it was Nick Scott. She said, there's some consternation. Was it Nick Scott or or Ransom that put the hit on? She thought it was Nick Scott. So there's a lot of people involved there. But what we do know is Jonathan Brooks got hit, Bryce didn't like it, stood up for him, and Luke Fortner is becoming a bit of a bodyguard over there because that's not the first time that he's done.
00:07:25
Speaker 1: So it's not the first time Fortner's been involved. That's on the first time Mike Jack's been involved. He remember through the he threw the helmet earlier, Frank's helmet when we were at when we were at camp. Look, it's a it's a catch twenty two because as long as Brooks is okay, you don't want him hit by his own teammates. But Brooks does need to take hits. You just don't want it to be in that setting. But the fact that he, you know, is all right, I think is the most important thing outside of the fact that man Bryce Young is really starting to show a side of leadership in that previous fight I was talking about. We said Bryce Young was trying to get in there, not to fight, but to be the guy that broke it up. So Bryce was also trying at least to help out in that one there. It's a great sign of leadership on the Bryce Young side of stuff.
00:08:12
Speaker 5: Hell yeah, Bryce, Bryce is growing again. I don't use the word throw with Bryce because they're gonna be fifty times on the text line text. He is growing into an alpha leader. Don't mess around, right, Like we had the whole cussing thing in the OTAs and stuff, and that was one thing, But like he's now, you could just feel the comfort the confidence in him, and I love it. He went over and stood up for his running back. That's coming off to torn Acls. On the flip side of that, I like my dogs on defense, man, I like my dogs on defense. Pushing the limits here might be the best part of it. By the way, Nick Scott, who is a leader over there, despite what fans say about him, he is a voice. He's a vocal voice over there that has some veteran leadership. Nick Scott, Bryce Young, and Mike Jack talked for over twenty minutes about this and Hey, defense what's your perspective, Bryce, Why you pissed off at us? And to me, that's an awesome sign. Yeah, that's an awesome sign of leadership on both fronts. Like that's just too both defensively and definitely, no.
00:09:17
Speaker 1: Camp camp fights as long as it ends with I mean, hell, the best example ever is twenty fifteen in the Norman Newton fight and what that did for the team. So team fights as long as they work it out, they talk through it, they have an understanding. I have no problem with guys getting after each other in camps. It's gonna happen. It's gonna happen natural anyway.
00:09:38
Speaker 5: Now, if someone goes low and hits Jonathan Brooks and the knee, we got a problem exactly. But Nick Scott was saying, man, we got it. We we look at the eye. We got to be able to thut him up. Listen to this.
00:09:48
Speaker 1: Nick Scott was amazing, by the way in the press conference afterwards, explaining everything that happened, explaining the conversation afterwards, explaining his perspective Canalis, Actually, you know, sometimes Canalis seems a little upset with the fights. He sounded like he loved yesterday. I mean he got to the podium, fantastic practice today. We had a fight.
00:10:09
Speaker 5: Well, Brooks is also okay. He was excited about it, man, he was, Yeah. I mean, if there was a series injury, I'm sure he wouldn't feel that way. But listen to Nick Scott here, because Joe person asked an interesting questions. A lot of fans and we all didn't see this right, but like a lot of fans don't like the fact of Jonathan Brooks. That's precious cargo. So Nick Scott was basically as, do you have to treat him differently?
00:10:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think that really factors in. You know, Jonathan's out here, he's with pads on, he's being doing a great job running downhill, running behind his pads. Spoke with him after that, and anytime there is spill over like that after a play, and especially if I'm evolved and involved, I always try to go check in and say like, hey, man, like, where are you at with that? You felt like that was cheap? His answer is like no, man, Like, that's it's football. I gotta put my pass down, Like that's just the nature of it. As long as we can keep having those conversations like I'm not worried about it. I feel like it's starting to turn into something bigger than it is. This is not like the sitcom of the Panthers, like we're hitting too hard, Like we're having fun. Camp is going really well and we're physical, a physical, physical team, and that's what we love about this team. I feel like, day in and day out, we bring it and that's what you want. You rather have guys talking about, hey, was that too much, rather than we got to turn it up a notch, like this is the least of our worries. We're having a lot of fun. Guys are progressing, we're getting physical, and we're right where we want to be.
00:11:35
Speaker 1: Nick Scott's a great love though. Love is Yeah, we got to talk to him at some point. Man. The thing with Brooks is, like I said, yeah, obviously you don't want something that takes them out. But when he you know, when you take a step back and you realize, okay, he's taking some hits out there now and down the line, that's gonna be good for its confidence when he gets into the real action. Yeah, it's it's not ideal to hit your own guy like Brooks, But at the same time, you look at it as all right, dude's getting up when he's playing football yet.
00:12:03
Speaker 5: And we'll we'll let you hear a bunch of this as it goes on. Nick Scott really was explained really well, like if you're coming from the side and you gotta wrap and you got them take him to the ground, we can't do that. But if this, if I can see your eyes and you can see me coming, I gotta thudg you up.
00:12:23
Speaker 1: It's it's it's it's It makes sense. It really does.
00:12:26
Speaker 5: My original thought when I saw this is how dare anybody breathe on Jonathan Brooks much less hit him? But the way Nick Scott explained it, I think makes sense, no doubt about it.
00:12:37
Speaker 1: You are saying Fiddy thudded you up yesterday verbally verbal thudd? Would you should be Fiddy's new nickname, the verbal thudd. I feel like I feel like he responded to a verbal thud for me first though, you know what I mean. And I feel like when the best you got it different accounts, man, Everyone's got a different account When the best you got is that right there? Hey, Panther asked, you know, I don't know, so could not wait to make that a probo yesterday that thing was running in circulation in about three and how he's gonna sprint it down to the production room to make that promo.
00:13:09
Speaker 5: Oh my goodness. Anyway, we got a lot of we got juicy stuff to talk about. We'll hear from his gero Vero later this hour about, among other things, j C. Horn playing more nickelback in the slot. Is it really gonna happen? What's your thought process there? So you will hear a little bit of that. Bryce. Oh, by the way, Bryce wasn't just out there being bodyguard. Bryce dropped yet another. He has had some of these passes in practice where you can't place it any better. This one he dropped in a bucket to t Mac and it was good coverat from Mike Jack too.
00:13:43
Speaker 1: It was beautiful, man, He's throwing some gorgeous pass to show you Mac how into simply watching throws and camp highlights people are. The tweet from Danielle Stein, who had an unbelieveble angle on that ball in a bucket is at nearly eight hundred thous from yesterday. Woo man. Because people just say love highlights, but also when it's a quarterback throwing dimes like that. I don't know why I did it that way, but that sounded cool. Man. I like, got more of that bone mores. People are into that stuff. Defense had a good practice. Canalis says defense won the day, fantastic day, and we all thought, uh, he was very excited. But Canalo said, the offense won the day on Sunday again. This is what you want trade offs. You want, you know, defense having big day, offense. You want it back and forth, and that's what we've gotten. They're off today might be a good thing. Everybody chill out a little bit in terms of practice on the field. They're off today.
00:14:40
Speaker 5: With that, they'll get back on the practice field tomorrow and they will play in the Troughless New Buffalo Stadium on Saturday afternoon one pm. Did you see the Bills defending themselves? Bone and did you see who was defending them?
00:14:55
Speaker 1: Who was that? Our old friend Pete GWELLI, oh, I didn't see. I missed that.
00:14:59
Speaker 5: He is the of the Buffalo Bills and he was formally in the front office. Charlotte Hornet's really nice guy, great guy, and he's from New York originally I think did he go to the Giants in between. I feel like he went to the Giants in between, but he was saying, we have heard. We're talking now, not about the trofless situation. We're talking for a while. He was Yeah, he might have been sports, he might have been up there. I think he's done all three of those sports now. But he he basically said, we're talking about the site lines. There were people posting on social media this is my sight line. It's an obstructed view. And he said we have heard from less than one percent of season ticket holders, So he doesn't think it's the big deal that social media is making it and the local news up there is making it. But he did say contact us if your view is obstructed. I'm not sure you guys are gonna want a good view in the first quarter on Saturday of what Bryce is getting ready to do.
00:15:58
Speaker 1: To y'all, I'm not sure you want to see that. Bill's fans love your Pete and you're handling the sightline situation. Also a lot of complaints about the size of the video board, so you might want to work on that as well. They have very small video boards too. They're trying to figure out how to make do with those up there. I guess they have small video boards and you can barely see the replacement.
00:16:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, do size matter? I think in this case size does matter. I don't think any woman can lie to a video boards. Size doesn't matter. He does anyway, So they're off to a good start. We got Charlotte FC tonight. If they win, they have a very good chance. I don't want to say it's it's definite, but if they win tonight, there's a very good chance. Bone they're moving on to the quarterfinals of the League's Cup. They take on Patchuka at the Bank End. Maxi could feature tonight. He won't start, but it will be in the squad could play tonight. Sadly pet Biel is not after that ridiculous red card, I guess. I guess the official ruling is that the referee red card at pet bl for saying something to basically about how bad he was, which he was during the match on Friday afterwards, and the red car was because of abusive language towards a referee, but no one seems to know exactly what the hell was said.
00:17:12
Speaker 1: So he just can play god for lack of a better term in this sense, and just say I didn't like what was said to me. Dean says, we are not appealing because it's he said, he said, I guess said, where's it gonna go? It's one guy, two people know. One guy says, you said it said it was this. One guy said it was that. So Dean Smith says they will not bother to appeal the pebil. The referee in Spanish, p Willie P know what was that? The interpreter, Hey, guys, oh Man Braves lose last night.
00:17:44
Speaker 3: Finally, Angel took you eighteen minutes to get to the biggest talking.
00:17:49
Speaker 1: Lose last night. Funny how that works.
00:17:52
Speaker 5: To the Mets, Bryce Elder not a good five runs he gave up in the first seven in the first three innings, and the Mets win eight to five, and Fitty for one day likes baseball again. Stay tuned tomorrow when Fiddy will act like baseball season is over.
00:18:12
Speaker 3: We're the best team in baseball post MLB trade deadline.
00:18:15
Speaker 4: There you go.
00:18:16
Speaker 3: They swept the Guardians, took two of three from the Pirates, first time since May. They won back to back series. Got a big win on the road last night in Atlanta. There's still time to turn this thing around.
00:18:29
Speaker 1: Also, not a coincidence.
00:18:30
Speaker 3: They're playing better without one, So tho it's not a coincidence.
00:18:34
Speaker 1: Get rid of his ass. Oh there you go. You have it bad real quick before I forget. I don't want to lose this in the rest of the show. Can we laugh at will Wade momentarily just for one second. Here they're practicing right now for the season. Here in August, Will Wade only has four eligible players. They are playing two to on two right now in August. What the heck? Two on two? Heck we are I know that there's a lot of rooster stuff going on right now. With fifth years. He needs eight more players for a full aster, full roster. We get eight fifth years. We are August eleventh. Where's he gonna get eight more guys from?
00:19:09
Speaker 5: By the way that I have take I take joy as everybody should. And Will Wade's roster situation apparently the gangster. Apparently there's not people enough gangster to play for the American gangster.
00:19:21
Speaker 1: You might want to go international gangster trying to find a player. I thought he was doing that. I guess that only neted him a few. Maybe it's for scholarship players right now. I guess he can give some walk ons. But yeah, there there is a posse. Yeah, it's for scholarship. There is a possibility bone that in an appeals court. I know yesterday the NCAA was asking the court in Colorado to give a stay of the injunction that has made these fifth year players eligible, and that was denied. But this is going to go to an appeals court. It is possible bone that at some point the appeals court reverses this and all these people that everybody's scrambling and sign, including UNC with that big man, that they then become ineligible. You know how it works. And stuff ain't over yet. No, no, it's never It will never be over. When we come back. We got a lot of college stuff on the table, including ESPN's College Football Playoff plan. Layne Kiffen with some interesting remarks. You're gonna hear Herbie on the Big ten dominance and a ton of local players make national media lists. It's back mode and the Thud stud on Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.
00:20:48
Speaker 6: These two things can be right. Those can have been the best six years of my life on field and off the field, especially off the field, and I can't have loved Oxford and loved old mess and truly mean that I needed it more than it needed me. And I can have taken a new job. It doesn't This doesn't mean that that didn't happen. The LSU job came open. I liked in the meetings with them, how that they were going to give you full control. I liked the way that they had nil set up to build rosters not just for the next year, but for years to come. And you made a change.
00:21:27
Speaker 5: There you go, Lane Kiffin. I watched him last night with Marty and McGee. It's their talking season coaches specials. And if you remember Bone, Ryan McGee is the dude that was interviewing him on that like E sixty documentary piece. Oh yeah, that led many of us to believe myself included that Lane Kiffin is.
00:21:49
Speaker 1: A change man. The old SIP changed this man and for the better, right yea.
00:21:54
Speaker 5: And since then he does what he does with the moved LSU and the way he handled it. So that was the answer to Ryan McGee's question, which was I get asked all the time, was everything in that documentary with Lane complete BF? So that's Lane Kiffin's answer to it.
00:22:11
Speaker 1: All the stuff that they didn't get to the bottom that they didn't get to the bottom of but what you know.
00:22:17
Speaker 5: So that's where he is saying, I loved it there. I had an amazing six years, but I wanted to make this move personally. So he's trying to say two things can be true. He also bone did the weird Halk Hogan documentary thing again on the show, like he's he's.
00:22:33
Speaker 1: The one thing he watched all summer. It's it sounds like because he's like, I'm coaching.
00:22:37
Speaker 5: I usually don't watch TV, but one time he watched the hal Cogan documentary and he is like, his takeaway is that I'm going to die. He says, if hal Cogan can die, I called my sister up and said hal Cogan died, it means I'm gonna die. And it's just like he sounds like a complete bozos.
00:22:59
Speaker 1: Getting to Weird Lane again. Yesterday, mac I had an observation about Kiffin and it goes into what Joey McGuire said, the Texas Tech head coach who said, we are now the villains of college football, and he was doing a whole thing about embracing it and they're the villains now. Look, I'm gonna go ahead and get a lot of people won't wait Texas Tech because of all the money and the sourceby thing. But if you don't think Lane Kiffin is headed towards the number one villain in college football, I got news for you that guy will be because he's gonna win, and he's gonna be arrogant and he's in the sec. Wayne Kiffin will be college football's number one villain. Again. I thought he already was. Yeah, I thought the whole l s you thing, I already got him back to that spot. Well, I we are. You't playing the game yet, but see, even when the success starts to happen, it's gonna go to new even more so, you're saying even more so Lane kiss McGuire, Good trypal, you're not on Lane's level. Yeah, I mean, I gotta be honest. No one's gonna care about you in that cake schedule, in the big tway, you know what I mean. And then you get in the playoff, you get exposed. No one's I don't think anybody's gonna care when keeps happening over and over again. That's my prediction for what happens with Texas Tech. We will see moving forward. I'm doing the thing too where he's complaining and no one, nobody will play them. Now they're calling all these teams and no one want to play Texas Tech against. Maybe they are going to annoy me, but anyway, I think Cody Campbell's a bit annoying. He seems to want to run college sports completely. But anyway, Lane Kiffin, by the way, Ryan McGee set this separate project. Ryan McGee ranked we got to talk about this over the next couple of days. Ranked the top ten all time villains in college football. Lane Kiffin two behind me. Only well we go pitch a rap villain one of the all time great men of college villain is this ga This is Gator slash game cock villain saying, no, my all time favorite character, No villain, Get out of the villain. I say it's more of a villain than den spurial wife. I can say this bone. I have a different perspective on it. I hated his guts when he was at Florida, absolutely hated his guts and I and I was on the air Jacksonville at the time because he called Phil Former fat all right, he did all right, just tink. He made fun of Bobby bowed and he said the truth. Cocky, arrogant, big mouth, But man, he was good for college football. That was my guy. Man, he was good for college football, all right. Also that it was the best thing about Steve Spurrier Fitty And why Bone is such a bond with him is he has rooted for the He's been with the three schools that Bone has rooted for over the years, Duke, Florida and South Carolina. He basically, this guy is a dny to you. He raised me, but growing up as a Gator fan as a child like that guy was everything what I wore visor than honor of him elementary. What about Duke You weren't Duke Bone back then? When when when they lit up Carolina and then post in front of the scoreboard and keenan a. I was also five and a half years old, Duke Bone did not that Duke Bone's a little later in life, a little later in life, Duke Bone may not have figured out at that age that uh that Duke played Uh that due played football. Okay, Okay, you weren't alone. You were just that team with that dastardly Christian Late near when I worded my last hand, it's odds y'all bring him up.
00:26:10
Speaker 3: But when I got a video of his presser and twenty fifteen in the preseason, the year, you know, the year that he quit on his team in the middle of it, where he meets with the media and tells the media outright that his team sucked and that he wanted to give them all the week off so they could go home and grow to be tough. College football needs a Steve Spurrier, like college fotball is better it does when it has someone like him, really really good, also really really outspoken, and maybe that's gonna be Signetti, but he has the charm with the charisma because like Spury would show up with without a shirt and advisor and just talk shop.
00:26:47
Speaker 1: But they were also fun teams as well. They were also fun, funny gun. His style of offense also led to a lot of fun stuff to fun and Gun. Don't worry.
00:26:54
Speaker 5: I think Lane Kiffen and Kirk Signetti got you covered. And I'm not saying anybody's gonna be the full Steve Spurri or package again, but like I don't think we are. I don't think we're ever gonna be. In a shortage of personalities that are hateable in college football, do you know what I mean? I think we're all always going to have that. But yeah, Steve Spurry is a legend, man, an absolute legend.
00:27:17
Speaker 3: He was a villain like Coach K, but just in a different style, like there are both villains in their sport.
00:27:23
Speaker 1: Coach K didn't have that sense of humor man that you know what I mean? Like, that's the thing about Spurry. He was quick, he was witty as hell. Man, you guys want to Joe Tory next thing? What are you doing here? All right, let's move along winning, All right, let's continue. Was dancing at a wedding this week. I'll tell you the guy's surprised. He was Quinn Cook's wedding, wasn't it. He was dancing with a bride. But's he tried to steal Quinn Cook's bride. Oh that was kind of an interesting dancing better than you.
00:27:48
Speaker 5: Actually, I shouldn't joke because it might have been during the day the dance with the father, you know what I mean, the father and maybe you know what I mean. I don't know, so it might have been a really classy thing he was doing. I shouldn't be just I was all, kay, let's let's continue here. I believe we've got items to get too, shall we. How about the fact bone that the nob's surprised by this, but the CFP folks are meeting this week to discuss a new format, and all of a sudden, the number twenty is in there. Right, feels like a compromise between the sixteen team and the twenty four team playoffs that everybody can't agree on. And now this number of twenty is out there, and the idea of it's still a sixteen team main draw, but there's four play in games for the last four spots for thirteen through sixteen that will kind of take the place of conference championship games, each of the Power four conferences playing a play in game to get one of those last four spots to the playoffs. I didn't realize when we talked about this yesterday that according to Ross Dellinger, this is ESPN's idea.
00:28:47
Speaker 1: Oh, of course it is.
00:28:49
Speaker 5: If anybody has ever uttered the comments that ESPN is running this, Fox Sports is running that.
00:28:56
Speaker 1: Here is your latest example of that. Now will have their own counter coming up right. Fox will then have the next counter. We'll see what that one. If Fox is on the twenty four team sides, so will Fox and you know, the Big Ten. Will they be willing to compromise and meet at twenty I don't know, but that's one of the things that they are talking about this week. Kirk kerb Street was on with Dan Patrick recently and he talked about the thing that everybody's talking about nationally, the Big Ten winning the last three titles and the poor lad alone with SEC can't get a spot in the last three title games. So anyway, Herbie, just Herbie thinks the Big ten flat out is more invested here in the nil air listen to this.
00:29:42
Speaker 4: I think in this new era that we're in, I think the Big ten has proven to do a better job of keeping their players more invested in their team. Meaning, Hey, if we're seven to three, or we're eight and four and we're going to the Outback Bowl or the Citrus or whatever it is. I feel like SEC players are like as soon as they're out of the playoff, I feel like they're like them and their agent I'm out of here. Yeah, And I feel like the Big Ten is doing a much better job of keeping them invested.
00:30:14
Speaker 1: To the finish line.
00:30:15
Speaker 4: Maybe the SEC will learn from this, and I don't know what they can do to tweak it, but I've noticed that when South Carolina plays Illinois in a bowl game and you're watching, one team looks really inspired and.
00:30:29
Speaker 1: One team doesn't. Iowa plays Vandy.
00:30:32
Speaker 4: I mean, these are good teams during the regular season. You turn it on and one team looks really fired.
00:30:37
Speaker 1: Up to be there.
00:30:38
Speaker 4: It's almost like the Big Ten is tired of hearing about the SEC collectively, and they're out to kick some ass, and the SEC is like, whatever, I'm going to the NFL, I'm transferring. They're just not invested in this new era, and not to mention the way the funds now are being spread out evenly throughout the entire country. So I think the the fans of the SEC, maybe the players don't care, but the fans of the SEC are tired already of hearing about the Big Ten.
00:31:08
Speaker 1: Oh it's a shame, well go beat him, Go beat him. Then the thing about the bull game analyzing stuff he did there that to me, every matchup, every team handles it differently. Sometimes teams MAC are missing a lot of guys and they could be going pro, they could be sitting out. That's South Carolina Illinois game. Yeah, the gay Cox was supposed to win. I do believe there were nine point favorites. But at the same time, act we see all the time teams that might be disappointed that they're in that game, or they didn't get to the playoff, whatever it may be. Each situation to me is different based on what that team has gone through their roster. It's not necessarily about the conference. To me, it's about the individual teams. And now they're handling bull season to analyze the ball games like that.
00:31:52
Speaker 5: Well, first of all, like, and I know you didn't like a game tax catching astray there bone.
00:31:57
Speaker 1: I know you didn't like especially against Fathead.
00:31:59
Speaker 5: But but here's the thing though, Like that might be one thing, and part of his point there's a long there's a longer version of the clip, and part of his point is he thinks, literally SEC guys peace out, whereas Big ten guys might stick around because it might mean something to win that game.
00:32:13
Speaker 1: But they that has nothing to do bone with the Big Ten winning the three championships and the SEC not getting to the championship game. When it is playoff football, the SEC is getting its rear end kicked by the Big Ten. Go talk to Alabama about it.
00:32:29
Speaker 5: You know, they are losing playoff matchups that can't be anything like what he's describing now.
00:32:36
Speaker 1: He did in there at.
00:32:37
Speaker 5: Some point say the nil money is being spread out, and I think that's definitely a part of it. You want to know what's funny, He talked about SEC fans being tired of losing to the Big Ten, which is rich because everybody was.
00:32:48
Speaker 1: Tired of losing to the SEC for years.
00:32:51
Speaker 5: But I've noticed our audience, our audience is tired of us talking about the Big Ten. We're getting these techs of people saying, you know, Max a big you guys are Big.
00:32:59
Speaker 1: Ten mer Here we go. I turn on my radio and all it this is Big ten talk.
00:33:04
Speaker 5: The only reason we are talking about the Big Ten is because of this dynamic where they're kicking everybody's rear end. I wanted Miami to win the championship, like we This is the national subplot of college football is that for after years of dominance, the SEC is not the daddyo anymore. So, Like it's funny to me, Max, a Penn State FANX, I don't give a damn about that conference I'm a Penn State fan. I really don't care about the conference I've got. It's just it's funny that even here Boning Charlotte. Yeah, fans are like, there's Big ten fatigue, and it's just so funny because it used to always be SEC fatigue.
00:33:43
Speaker 1: Let's get the facts straight. I have teams in the a SEC and the SEC. I do not have a Big ten team. Yeah, this is the one conference bone done root. Yeah, if it is bad, I don't have a team in that conference. There, I will say, if we were analyzing what's that I'm saying, give you time. I didn't know what you said about here Ducal being the big in twenty thirty, so you'll be yeah, that's sure. The Artario fans might be Big three breaking down the Big ten by itself, I'd say, yeah, why are we? Why are we talking big ten? Every single Big ten conversation has been in reference to the SEC. That has been the discussion. We're happy. We're not saying, hey, what do you maca? Big ten? Maca, what do you think about Minnesota? Now go to Gophers. We're not breaking down.
00:34:23
Speaker 5: If you just start to do that, seriously, turn your radios off and write your Congress.
00:34:27
Speaker 1: We're not artwise, and who's gonna win the little brown jug that shit let me the or the old oaken bucket, seriously, but a wooden spoon or whatever they play for. I would have thought ACC fans would love this talk, because this talk is about how the SEC is fighting to get back on top. Like I'm not saying you gotta love the Big ten and I'm not saying you got to get into all those goofy trophies Bone was just talking about, but like, is it like, if you're an ACC fan, shouldn't you hate the SEC? And shouldn't you find this a little amusing? I do want to mention real quick, Bone, a bunch of these lists that are out there that the national met he is doing, and a bunch of local guys that appeared on it. And I'll just run this down real quick. Here we got Nick Harbor number one on Bruce Feldman's freak List, which is just literally athletic freakazoids.
00:35:10
Speaker 5: He does it every year. Dylan Stewart from South Carolina, fourteen, Duke Scott wolf Perkin the Hoarse number eighteen, a man that bones slandered a week ago. I'm gonna mark that down. Sammy Brown twenty. Who I'm sorry, Duke Scott due you were pumping up Shepherd over Duke Scott. But anyway, Sammy Brown twenty's the best running back in the conference. Sammy Brown twenty seller from Clemson sellers thirty six from South Carolina. South Carolina has three of the top thirty six freaks in the country. Colby Krunk, one of the best names on Tobacco Road. Defensive lineman for NC State is forty one. Jeremiah Hasley from Duke tight end fifty five, So that is the freak's list. You also have bone CBS did a list of the ten players making no camps and Emmanuel Pokou, who is the guard now for South Carolina transfer from ECU. Sorry Pirate fans, but he is getting love for the way he looks in camp. And then there is let's see here ESPN top ten play freshmen that could make an impact this year. You've got UNC cornerback Kenton Dobson on the list. For the ACC they did the top ten and the eight in every conference. Clemson wide receiver named Burrows, and then they did a group of six list and Charlotte edge rusher Colin Bussey was on the list. He was the number one G six freshman to watch this year on this list. And then app State had Jamel House who's a tight end freshman four star tight end at app State. So anyway, just a little bit and it's nice Bone. I don't see our local teams on all the good lists, but they're making some of them.
00:36:58
Speaker 1: He made the Radio Freaks List Radio Freaks. Thing he did, the thud stud was number one the Thuds on the Radio Freaks Listen Max shout out to the Big Ten. They played for an Abe Winket Trophy, a cannon, a spatooned an old oaken bucket, a pig named Floyd, a land Grand Trophy, Paul Bunyan's axe, a little brown jug five bits of a broken chair, and Paul Bunyan's Trophy not the acts, a freedom trophy. You get two victory bells. There you go, Big tag football, there you go? Do you uh? That says it?
00:37:29
Speaker 5: Buckets? How about a guy Durst from Huntersville? How this is You're gonna find this amusing? The Big Ten? He says, the Big Ten is literally just spending more money talking about the players staying invested. It's because the Big ten spends so much more money. They're literally paying for championships. Hey, I don't see anything going with that statement. And who was paying for the championships before nio was legal?
00:37:50
Speaker 1: Hmmm, it's funny. It sounds like sour grape. What's happened to the game? Se spur your loved When we come back on the mac in Bone Show, more panther stuff, huge ratings for the Hall of Fame game. Coach Overo talks about horror playing the slot and so potential very bad news for the Atlanta Falcons. All that and more. Sports Radio ninety two seven w FNZ.
00:38:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just kind of talking that through. Obviously at this point in camp. There's just a level of physicality that naturally happens.
00:38:42
Speaker 6: You know.
00:38:43
Speaker 2: Part of that is, you know, we haven't seen a different color in a long long time. The pads have been on. It's hot and everything like that. So that's part of the game. You want it. But at the same time, there's an aspect of protecting the team and guys that you're gonna need on Sunday for sure.
00:38:56
Speaker 1: A little bit.
00:38:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, some of that stuff just naturally happens, right, some of the leaters on either side of the ball get together and talk about the things that need to be talked about. That's not the only time we've done something like that. Sometimes it's facilitated by Bryce myself, Truba whoever, when things need to be talked about. We take pride in this being a player led team. So we're just making sure that there's constant communication across both sides of the ball. So we're coming out here and being as competitive and as fishing as possible.
00:39:24
Speaker 5: That is Nick Scott talking about the conversation him, Bryce, Mike Jack sitting down after the practice practice incident. Bryce thought thought they got a little over zealous hitting Jonathan Brooks. It resulted in a twenty minute conversation between those three after practice. That's what That's what being a team's all about, Like Bone said, leaders on both sides of the ball, Let's talk this out, Let's talk through this here.
00:39:48
Speaker 1: What Bryce called Nick Scott Mack during that one, He said, I think you're being a panther ass. And then Scott said excuse me and said, I'm sorry, you're being a pantherer Butt. That's edge anther ass. Bryce.
00:40:00
Speaker 5: He wouldn't even say that three letter word Bone a year ago. But apparently now he's talking like Fitty talked yesterday on the show. Yeah, Gooch is texting in calling him Edgie Bryce. We had Edgie Sam Darnold years ago. Now we got Edgie Bryce, who Gooch says. The rumor is he called Nick Scott a dummy face and called Mike Jack a big meaning. Oh he's growing up as a leader, y'all. He is man, you could feel it. More on that later. More on Bryce Young becoming I think a different QB in so many ways. More on that coming up later on the show, Bully Bryce. Let's let's run through a couple of other different things here. We'll circle back to the scrapperoo later on on this show. Hall of Fame game ratings the highest and almost a decade bone seven million viewers watched the Haines King Carson Beck duel.
00:40:52
Speaker 1: Baby. How about that six million a year ago? I think I said the other yeahs, so you got what the peak rating was at the end when America realized, oh we got a game going on. Oh, when Haines King scores a touchdown, unfortunately also hurts his hamstring unfortunately, I mean America. I'm told America stopped what they were doing collectively Bone, they realized, greatness, what's happening baby? How about that?
00:41:17
Speaker 5: The Panthers and the Cardinals bringing in the eyeball. It was a fun game, Like it's it can't just be for us as Panther fans. It has to be a game where neutrals were like, it's kind of fun for preseason because usually Bone, you're getting all the penalties, you're getting the ugliness on offense, and it's very easy to turn off.
00:41:36
Speaker 1: This had to be one that America was like, usually kind of actually enjoying this. Usually it's the thought of football far our ways the actual game you're watching. So people get their fix early. They go, oh, I got something else. So that the fact that it did that number is pretty cool. Yeah, that is, and it wasn't. It was an awesome game for Hall of Fame game, that is pretty sweet. You've got How about this one? The Athletic reporting that it Land is bracing for a big suspension to their second year edge rusher James Pierce. The Athletics says it could be eight plus games. Wow. He probably deserves it.
00:42:19
Speaker 5: For what he was involved in terms of running his ex girlfriend off the road the way he did.
00:42:24
Speaker 1: Uh.
00:42:24
Speaker 5: But they're already missing Jalen Walker for the season, and we've got him in week two. It's very possible bone than in week two they're missing both of them, and heck, they might be missing him for like half the dang season.
00:42:36
Speaker 1: That's a that's a major setback for Atlanta. Who when they drafted those guys and they played a year ago, you thought, wow, wait till you see that combo in year number two, they're gonna build a lot just around those two guys. They're always they always have their offensive pieces, but Walker and Piers were going to be the two keys to get them to another level. Now four on the Walker stuff, he's out Piers with terrible decisions. Now all of a sudden, Atlanta goes from these two studs on defense to really they're gonna have to go try to do what Atlanta does back and that scored the ball a lot on people and probably not stop a lot of people. And that's sort of been the theme of Atlanta for a very long time.
00:43:17
Speaker 5: I feel like it's good for fantasy football to take the Falcons, well, not their quarterbacks, but the other guys in fantasy football. But I feel like to your point, they're going to be playing from behind. They finally found a pass rush last year. They finally those two guys that were rookies last year Bone that are both from the Charlotte area, obviously, they they combined for sixteen sacks last year. And then if you go Bone to Caden Ellis, who was an amazing blitzer as well, he tossed in three and a half sacks and he's moved on to New Orleans. That's nineteen and a half sacks that could be missing for at least eight games according to the report, maybe more. And I were already before all this, Bone thought they were dudo.
00:43:59
Speaker 1: I thought I thought they were already the safest bet for last in the South. Now I they're gonna put up points, there's no Well, they got the quarterback question also, So that's that's the thing. This isn't This isn't the Matt Ryan here for It's like, oh, they got Matt Ryan, They're gonna score. It's gonna be bijon and then a lot of we'll see what they do, right.
00:44:23
Speaker 5: Yeah, but they I'm here's what I'm hoping. I'm hoping they're down so much, but the teams are in prevent defenses and they're patting their stats even though the quarterbacks really aren't that good. That's what I'm hoping for.
00:44:34
Speaker 1: Also, Bryce, Bryce torches them anyway, what's you gonna do without those two guys out there? This is this is this is b a Bryce bad bleep Bryce. I don't want to, you know, I can't. I can't go how they can't do that? Bad bleat Bryce, bad bleeping Bryce oh Man?
00:44:53
Speaker 5: How about Okay? So, uh, Brad Idseick's got a zoom press today. The Panthers aren't doing a practice They've got zoom pressor today, so we get to hear from Brad for the first time here in this camp. Yesterday it was a zero Rovero. Tracy Smith, you will not be disappointed. Tracy Smith did make comments about JJ Janssen's versatility, so it feels like he every presser he has to get some fun comments in about America's long snapper. But what I want to focus on here is zero Vero's presser yesterday when he was asked about their thinking of using in camp so far.
00:45:30
Speaker 1: J C.
00:45:30
Speaker 5: Horn Moore as a nickelback more in the slot, and Avero definitely as always doesn't want to give away all the secrets.
00:45:38
Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, that's kind of a sensitive areat. I'm trying to finesse in terms of not giving up too much information for our game plan. But I will say that, you know, when jac came out of college, we did a lot of work on him, and you know, he was the same draft as a patser Tan and Caleb Farley, and you know, there's a lot of different opinions around the league in terms of how you would rank those guys. But if you guys as you guys all, I'm sure no. He played a lot of nickel in college and so you saw the blitz in, you saw the the run fits, you saw the the instincts on inside, and so nothing foreign there. You know, We've we've utilized them the way we felt best the last couple of years. And uh, you know, he's obviously one of our best players, and so it's my job and our job as the staff to make sure we get them in winning positions.
00:46:25
Speaker 1: He is grasping at the sensitive area. I was just thinking, there's a drop there, Fitty at the start of his com play, the start of his comment again, Yes, our minds worked the way many male minds work here on this show.
00:46:39
Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, that's kind of a sensitive area. I'm trying to finesse in.
00:46:45
Speaker 1: That's a sensitive area. I'm trying to finesse he Hey, now, ag I heard he's so protective of information that what he calls a customer service person and they say, sir, what's your email address? I'll say, I can't give it away. What's your what's your out numbers? Sir? You gotta finesse that. You gotta finesse that one. He is like that, he really is. He should be in CIA.
00:47:06
Speaker 5: He like football people in general are secretive and should be in the CIA. He's definitely on the extreme.
00:47:12
Speaker 1: How many secrets does this guy have that he's just held in forever for people.
00:47:15
Speaker 5: I'm gonna go out of the limb and say bone that a Giro of Varro is probably unhappy that every day there's a new high rise video of the part of practice that is not supposed to be to the public. Didn't it happen again yesterday from a new building? Yeah, I don't know, I don't know. I got the video sent to me. Oh, man, you got sources like Bone.
00:47:35
Speaker 1: I don't know if it went I didn't see it go viral, but he got said to me from a different angle, by the way, and this one right there a different building. This one right there was almost like the All twenty two video. We did a speech last week where we said stop it, knock it off your panther. Folks, we think, stop this, stop putting it out there. You're gonna hurt the team eventually. Now they're getting closer to the field. Now they got someone on a different level. Is it this one didn't have the zoom in though the other guy had a mega zoom in. Man, Oh yeah, it was crazy. Is it possible, Bone, that the person at Sendency is the person that was in a high rise and shot the film. Investigate Bone, that's true. I trust this man. This man may have given us tickets to FanFest recently. Well in that case, I trust some kind of All Right, when we come back here on the Mack and Bone Shows seven o'clockers, we are going to talk college football. Various national media lts think teams like Clemson, NC State, South Carolina and even UNC can outperform their expectations, analyse who can't do that? On Sports Radio nine two seven,
Speaker 1: What's up party people?
