ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Join interior design expert Tash Bradley as she reveals how to choose the perfect kitchen paint colours using light direction, colour theory, and personal style.
In our landmark 100th episode, we are joined by the "Queen of Colour," Tash Bradley, Director of Interior Design at Lick. If you’ve ever stared at a wall of white paint samples and felt a sense of dread, this masterclass is for you. Tash demystifies the science of colour theory and shares her "function-first" framework for transforming your kitchen from a sterile showroom into a soulful, energetic hub. Tash proves that colour isn't just about aesthetics—it’s about how you want to feel every morning when you walk into your kitchen.
Key Takeaways: How to Master Colour in Your Kitchen
When going bold with colour, Tash suggests buying a piece of clothing in a colour you are wanting to choose. If you feel confident wearing a colour, you’ll likely love living with it.
Knowing the position of your kitchen is essential when it comes to choosing colour in your home! Learn how to use a phone compass to identify your room's orientation and why a "warm neutral" is non-negotiable for North-facing rooms.
Discover why a simple colour wheel is the ultimate shortcut to creating "complementary" and "analogous" schemes that look professionally designed.
Avoiding the use of colour due to thinking of resale? Tash explains why injecting personality and "soul" actually helps buyers visualize themselves in your home.
Learn why sampling is SO important to get the right colour undertone to suit your space.
Best Moments:
"Go outside, go into nature, go for a walk... Nature is the perfect colour palette. Whatever nature provides you as a colour palette, bring that into your homes."
"Adding your personality is only going to increase the sale. It’s hard for a buyer to walk into a blank 'white box' and visualise living there. The more soul it has, the more likely you are to sell it."
"I want to break down the idea that kitchens should be clinical. Bring in pictures, artwork, and lamps. I have three table lamps in my kitchen—they create little pockets of calm before the chaos of the day starts."
"Always sample. Oh, my God. Always sample! If there’s one motto I need, it’s: Why don't people sample? Once you see how a colour looks throughout the day, you're winning."
"Painting your cabinets is the single most cost-effective way to make a £30k kitchen look like a £60k kitchen."
