Relationship researcher Allison Armstrong, who has studied men and relationships since 1991 — joins the podcast to unpack one of the most counterintuitive truths in her decades of work: women often bring out the very behaviors in men that frustrate them most, without realizing it.
Allison shares the origin story behind her research: witnessing a colleague dubbed a "frog farmer" ask why men start out wonderful and become distant over time, and the trainer's blunt response that reframed her entire understanding of relationships. From there, the conversation dives into how men and women fundamentally misinterpret each other's behavior: why a man asking "where do you want to go?" on a date is an act of generosity (not indecision), why touching an upset man can feel physically painful to him due to adrenaline, and why men "ignoring" their partners is often testosterone-driven focus, not disregard.

The episode breaks down why criticism is the most common but least effective way to try to change a man's behavior, including the layered psychological process men go through when criticized (considering the source, weighing the truth of it, calculating whether change is "worth it"), and offers a practical reframe: shifting from "what's wrong with him?" to "what if there's a good reason for that?"
Allison also discusses the danger of chemistry-driven attraction versus attraction rooted in genuine care, and shares a deeply personal story about her late husband and the nature of lasting love.
