ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The New York Islanders face tough questions after parting ways with Patrick Roy. Did his coaching style help or hinder the team’s 11-point improvement—and was a B- season enough? Host Gil Martin critiques Roy’s high-risk tactics, player development wins with Matthew Schaefer and Cal Ritchie, and the persistent power play woes that left fans frustrated. The fallout from Roy’s firing and the arrival of Peter DeBoer signal a critical shift for the Islanders’ identity heading into next season.
Key topics include Ryan Pulock’s shoulder surgery and return timetable, Long Island native Tanner Adams’ prospect camp invite, and Mathew Barzal’s World Championships performance for Team Canada. Gil Martin also spotlights Matthew Schaefer’s Calder-worthy rookie season, delivering an A+ grade to the 18-year-old future franchise cornerstone. Plus, listener mailbag, Islanders Birthday of the Day, and a look ahead to the next player review. Can the Islanders find stability and capitalize under new leadership?
