ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The Tampa Bay Lightning face their first Atlantic Division opponent of the season tonight as they host the Detroit Red Wings, and on today's episode of Lightning Power Lunch, Dave Mishkin and Greg Linnelli preview a pivotal divisional matchup while diving deeper into the biggest story surrounding the team: Nikita Kucherov's future with the organization.
The guys discuss why the Atlantic Division has been one of the NHL's strongest through the first month of the season, how Detroit has responded despite the ongoing Dylan Larkin situation, and what challenges the Red Wings present after a road win over Florida. They also break down the Lightning lineup, including the return of Erik Cernak, the continued use of the 11-forward, 7-defenseman setup, and what to expect from Tampa Bay against a division rival.
The conversation also circles back to Kucherov's comments regarding communication, respect, and contract negotiations. Dave and Greg discuss the possible paths forward, what it means for the Lightning moving ahead, and why the organization finds itself navigating one of the most significant storylines in franchise history.
Plus, thoughts on Conor Geekie's continued development, the impact of Zemgus Girgensons' absence, the importance of divisional games, and why maintaining pace in a loaded Atlantic Division could be critical to the Lightning's playoff positioning.
