@luke_seychell: Hello, hello, welcome back to Let's Talk Palace. Welcome back to a horrible week for Crystal Palace in which we've lost twice to Leon and Brighton. Brighton today was probably one of the worst days for Palace in recent history. It has not been a good day at all. Losing 5-0 after losing 3-2 to Leon a few days prior is not the best way to end the week, of course. Today we'll be mainly talking about Brighton, but it obviously what's going on right now is an issue that kinda refers to both games anyway, so we'll talk about both as well. I'm joined by a very happy guest who was actually at the game today. In Henry, of course. How are you doing, mate?
@henryswainjourn: Yeah, I'm doing great. How about you?
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: Honestly, that is the most despicable the fact I didn't even need to go. I bought a ticket an hour before the game. Why did
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: I do that? genuine like yeah, awful. Awful. Like one of the worst, most i diabolical, embarrassing performances and defeats ever. I mean, it's just genuinely pathetic. And we're gonna try and mind our language on this podcast, but it's gonna be hard. Because that was
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: that was all it was it was shocking. It was awful. It was despicable. It was unforgivable. it was pathetic, it was abysmal, it was embarrassing, it was humiliating. Like it was humiliation being sat in that way and I mean
@luke_seychell: Yeah, massively. When you lose there by a bad margin, obviously against your rivals, it's never good. but to see like the clips of everything,
@henryswainjourn: It it's bad anyway. yeah, just yeah.
@luke_seychell: the like Castulas waving towards the palace fans and all that, it's just humiliation that fans don't deserve.
@henryswainjourn: They were up for it. They were up for it. And our our players weren't. And the I think the obviously we'll touch on the game and everything like that. I think the the biggest frustration for me right now as we sit here is it felt like they did not give a flying like they did not care. None of them care. they they barely even acknowledged the support at the end. Barely acknowledged it. Shout out to Jeff Lerma Paddy McCarthy, shout out to Luca Benetton, who's a sixteen year old. He's sixteen and he showed more kind of praise to the fans. Chris Richards tried to walk straight down the tunnel and Stran Larson grabbed him and was like, No, come on, we do this. Mm they wandered over, gave the the as little appreciation to the fans as they could get away with, and off they fucked. It's just it's just a
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: disgusting performance. a disgusting way to react to a performance like that and they should all be ashamed of themselves. It's not that that that I don't often talk about refunding fans. That is the kind of game fans should be refunded for. Players should lose out because they what they don't care. They don't care. Brighton cared. Every single player in that Brighton squad cared. Lewis Dunk cared. Vuskovich cared. Castulas cared. They all got it. They all understood. You know, e every challenge they they made the first ball theirs. It doesn't help when we concede three minutes in for a for an own goal. But every single one of their players cared. I can't point to a single one of our lads who genuinely played like they gave a single toss. Not a single one of them. And I had to sit
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: there and watch people clapping them at the end. What are
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: you applauding? What what are you what are you congratulating? I dunno, ma'am.
@luke_seychell: It's it's basically we've it feels a bit rinse and repeat at the moment in terms of what we're talking about when it comes to negative stuff. the first halves have been dreadful, first half of Liam was dreadful, first half of Forrest was dreadful. We're leaking too many chances. stuff we said early before the season started. We didn't the s defensive signings were promising, but possibly they weren't good enough. All these little things that just have accumulated and they've kind of all come together at the exact worst time, obviously, against our rivals in Brighton. And yes, we conceded lots of chances against other teams recently, Forrest and that, but like first ten minutes to be three goals down. It's just it's just not acceptable. In the Premier League, it's just not acceptable. before this game, there's there's been thirty-free goals.
@henryswainjourn: I couldn't believe it, mate. Genuinely could not believe it.
@luke_seychell: It's ridiculous and at the end of the day in the Premier League, you've got to go back to basics. you've got to think about the defense first now. And this is where modern football managers don't really do that enough. They don't they'll stick to their style more than they should. And look, we're gonna dive into what's caused this because it isn't just the manager as well. players he's got maybe aren't suited to his style and he might need to change that. before we Quickly go into the Brighton game, something I really noticed from Leon because you're so high up, you get like a proper bird's eye view. Like, kinda like football manager, you can see exactly what's going on. And look, the central centre backs a lot of the blame, but the one issue with Sargeball is how high the wing backs go up, and how they can't track back, and how the players in front of them in intact aren't tracking back in time, and that leaves our back free so exposed. So exposed and it's gonna be a huge issue for us if we don't sort that out. But we go into this game, back line, Richards, Ahano, Camvo, two very young centre backs coming in to play against the rivals with Richards at the back and Saint Henry. We've spoken about a lot. Again, repeating ourselves, of course, but it has to be done. The lack of leadership and this eleven at the moment does not have a leader. when Henderson's injured and the issue with Henderson is he's a goalkeeper and you need your leader you need a leader outfield as well as a goalkeeper, don't you, mate?
@henryswainjourn: Yeah, I I mean yeah it's caused a massive problem. I think I my connection went a bit funny for a second, so I didn't hear some of what you said. But I can probably kinda put two and two together. yeah. I I mean it looked it was men against boys for the entire game. and it's kind of what I touched on with with with them, with Dunk and with Hinchel coming off the bench. These are players that get it. They they they they you know, they understand the rivalry. They've been there, they've done it, they've been on the end of, you know, bad results recently. So they would have absolutely loved today. And you know, I I think there's a you know, it's very tough when you concede that early, especially in that manner. and then concede again two minutes later, and then again two minutes later. I mean it's very hard after the first one to not drop your heads, you know, obviously it's hard. why Canvo's done that, I have no idea. These there's no Brighton player near him. I don't think there's any need for him to do it. He's just headed it into the back of his own net. It's really poor. And that that's the the facts of the matter. What's poor before it is Kaliley making the foul. I mean, it's a stupid foul to give away. He's never
@luke_seychell: Yeah, really bad file.
@henryswainjourn: gonna win the ball. He just goes flying in. w what was the point in that? and at that point, that's when you need the leader, that's when you need someone to be like, lads, we need to calm down. You could y you see him, I mean it's right in front of us. You see him, they ain't got a fucking clue, mate. They're looking at each other like, what do we do? What do we do? Richards has got his head in his hands. That that that guy should be the leader. He's the guy that should be in charge of the back five. And he's putting his head in his hands three minutes into a game. Three minutes in. And he's dropping
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: his head like a bitch. Like a bit they all played like bitches. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, mate. Every challenge,
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: half-assed. Every pass, half-assed, every fucking tackle, under hit. You know, Brighton were smashing us. They were sm they absolutely popped us about in every aspect today. Every aspect. Everything. They passed the ball quicker. They tackled harder. They won their headers. They wanted it more. They shot. They created chances. We didn't do any of that. It's not like we've we we can sit here now and think, you know, we've just been spanked five nil, but at least our players gave it a go. The players were all like we were awful. It is genuinely the worst I've seen us play ever in my lifetime. I have never seen Palace play that badly for an entire ninety minutes. Never. Never once. We we barely had a shot. And then when we get a chance, I'm hearing people, get Meteta on, Stran Larson's this, Stran Larson's that. Meteta comes on and it's the bar from two yards out. So it shows the improvement.
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: And Ketia comes on, yes, he's offside, can't finish his dinner one on one, takes about ten minutes to make a decision. They all completely got swallowed by the occasion and it was really poor. And that you're right, you need a leader. You need someone that that's there and can be like, guys, like we need to sort this out. God God knows what was said at half time. I would love to know what was said at half time. Go
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: out there, boys, and keep being as shit as you're being. That sounds like a great plan, boys. Brilliant. You do that. Concede straight away. I mean we we should have lost eight, nine, ten, nil. Genuinely
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: that scoreline wouldn't have flattered Brighton. yeah, the the lack of leadership's ridiculous. I I'm struggling. I feel really bad for Sarge. I think he's been dealt an awful hand. 'cause look at the look at the squad. What what is he meant to do with these players? Yes, maybe we need to switch up to about four. Yes, maybe the instruction to the players needs to change, but I mean when you're seeing what these players are actually doing on the pitch. I I just don't know what you can say. Look at them. They can't defend. Canvo's jumping and heading the ball in his own net. in in Lyon in midweek, there three Mingüeza, Richards, De Sassy chasing the same ball, leaving space in behind. It's like schoolboy
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: shit every single time we can see the goal. I I I I I just feel for him. You know, you you miss LaCroix massively. You have someone like LaCroix, yeah, you might not win that game, but it's not like that. It's not as embarrassing as that. No chance. Because you have a bit of passion, a bit of leadership, someone that gets it. Didn't have that today. I I d I don't know where we go from here. I don't want us to sack him. I look at Brighton. They were awful for a long time and now they're flying under Herzler because they gave him time and they backed him and they they bought good players for him. We spent 50 million on Stran Larson, who is, I mean, next to useless. And then the the rest on who like, you they they sell Van Heck and they go and get Vuskowitch. And I don't want to draw loads of comparisons, mate. I really don't. I'm sorry that I'm ranting but I need to get it off my chest. Like Vuskovich
@luke_seychell: It's gonna be rants happening today.
@henryswainjourn: Vuskovich comes in to replace Van Heck. That's how you that's how you replace selling players. That that exact thing. You sell a player for 52 million, you go and buy a younger, better player for 50 million. We could have got Vuskovic. There was nothing stopping us going and getting Vuskovic. Nothing. He yeah he might not have come to us but there was nothing stopping us trying. We no we'll go free transfers. We'll go loans. For players and the problem is when you're getting loans and you're getting free transfers, there's a reason that they're loans or free transfers. It's 'cause they're pretty shit for the most part. yeah, I'm just kinda lock I I I've got no ideas. I I genuinely don't know where we go from here. I I think he'll get sacked because I can't see it getting any better, but I I just feel for him.
@luke_seychell: So yeah, let's like so obviously the Sarge possibly being sacked is something that a lot of people talk about and we'll give I'll I'll give a proper opinion as well on what I think there as well. But I think before we think about the future, what goes on as well, we have to look back at the past and it's not like in the Premier League, Crystal Palace have just been rubbish for this season. It's six Premier League wins since January. it's the home form's been poor. This isn't just a this season issue. Yes, of course we were focusing on the conference league at the time, but again, stemming that back, that's because Glasnard didn't feel like he had a strong enough squad. And I know some people may argue that Glasnor wouldn't have used it anyways, but I think if he felt like he had stronger players, he would have utilized it a bit more instead of basically throwing away games like Bournemouth. Kinda going through that run in the Premier League, bringing that into this season was just not helpful at all, especially when you're losing big players as well. And, you know, as well as Sarge, obviously Sarge has to Put his hands up here and go, the structure I've got right now, tactically, defensively, is not good enough for this division. Maybe it's suitable more for France, for the Premier League, you're gonna get punished nine times out of ten, and it's gonna be bad for you. and it's gonna be interesting to see where we go. But just again, looking back at the past, the the the signings look, we obviously praise the squad depth going into this season, but Obviously we now talk a few months later. A lot of these signings haven't worked. And why haven't they worked? The likes of probably McNeil, Gesson, the Sassy.
@henryswainjourn: 'Cause I share footballers.
@luke_seychell: Well, they're all players Sarge wouldn't have wanted. Like at the end of the day.
@henryswainjourn: Course I know. Course I know.
@luke_seychell: and this is a big issue. We have to we brought in a very yes, the same formation, but it's a very different style. And you're not bringing in players who suit that style when you're in the Europa League and when you've got to do a lot of changing. And Sarge is basically having to change his back line every week, which also means we're not getting any chemistry in that back line. and it's there's a mess from start to finish. But to ask you a question, mate, and I've kind of probably answered it for myself there anyways, but it's not just Sarge that's an issue here. There's possibly someone else we need to talk about. and that is Matt Hobbs. and
@henryswainjourn: I'll talk I'll happily talk about Yeah. I'll happily talk about both of them. Happily.
@luke_seychell: you know, Matt Hobbs come in. Very tough task to follow Dougie Friedman, who had a you know, at the end of the day, he brought a lot of success with the players he did. He brought a great idea, he brought a great project. He didn't just think about the present like we were doing before. He thought, let's get the players in young, let's see that they're obviously good enough players, but let's be able to resell them for more. Matt Hobbs has come in and obviously Palace have been in a very different situation in terms of they've been in Europe. And they've won a trophy since. But it's kinda like that project's just been completely realistically annihilated because we've either decided last last summer it was fine and then we stressed in January. Or some of the targets that Hobbes is suggesting are just not good enough, right?
@henryswainjourn: Shock. Fucking hell. The guy that was awful at wolves and basically just used his notebook with whichever fucking super agent works there. Wow, really surprising. And I yeah, I I do apologise for my language because we we did actually have a conversation. We're like, we're gonna try and rein that in, especially me on the pod. But today I don't care because that was that d I've gotten no I don't have extensive enough vocabulary to describe what what's going on at the minute without swearing. yeah, useless. Just useless. look, Sarge, a hundred percent it you can blame him. Are you you can point your finger
@luke_seychell: Yeah yeah.
@henryswainjourn: at Sarge, of course, and because I know like it's very I think the problem that I have is that it's very much split at the minute on Palace, at least on Twitter and on social media, is that it's either Sage's fault or it's not Sarge's fault. I don't think that has to be the case. It can be a bit of both.
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: Like, yes, Sarge needs to change things, obviously, because it's not working, and we are shipping goals and chances for fun. And quite frankly, as As brutal as it sounds, as much as we're what, eight games into the into the league season, if we keep playing like this, we are getting relegated. It's it's as simple as that. You
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: cannot concede this many goals, you cannot concede this many chances without stay w sorry, and stay in the league. Doesn't happen. in terms of the recruitment, you can a hundred percent point a finger as well. You can point a finger at the fact that our ownership are tight. They're tight ass with money, they don't like spending money. If they can not spend money, they won't spend money. They will always look for the cheapest option every time. And I don't think that's like, you know, it this isn't controversial to say, it's just true. Because they're, you know, smart and they care about the club and they want to be careful. I think it gets to a point where you need to start taking some risks and putting your balls on the table. Put your nuts on the table and be like, look, like we've lost Glasna, we've lost Lacroix, but we're gonna go and we're gonna attack this because we can and we've got the talent, we've got the base level of talent. We haven't done that. Well we done we resorted to the to the the last option in terms of cent central defensive replacement for LaCroix. The last option. Yes, or Donnez was injured, whatever. Didn't go out, didn't go and get anyone else. It's like we had two options and one of them was injured, so we went and got Bloody De Sassy. You know, I actually don't mind some of the depth in terms of Mingguazo. I think he's good I think he's not great, but I think he's alright enough. I think you know, elsewhere in the squad, I I don't mind some of them. But it comes back to Hobbs that The fact that he spent eighty five million pounds, obviously we've written some of that off of Johnson, but he the fact he did s commit that those funds to Brennan Johnson and Jugen Stran Larson is a disgrace. And look, I I don't I don't think Mattette would be much better than Stran Larson. I don't think it's Stran Larson's fault. He gets no service. We don't play to his strengths whatsoever. I think the main issue for me is that there is no identity within this team. I don't watch us and I and I think I don't watch us and I I I'm not seeing the patterns. I'm not seeing what we're trying to do. Yes, at times it's like okay, we're trying to play neat attacking football and like quick passing in the opponent's half. But you don't see it enough for it to be like, okay, but how do we actually get there? Like, you know, under Glasnur at least it was we just give it to f to Munials and just cross our fingers. Like now it's like, what do we do? b sorry, excuse me. This is what we do. Benitez gets a goal kick, right? He pumps it long. after maybe playing a couple of short passes with with his centre backs. Pumps it long to no one because Stran Larson's not good enough in the air. Th the other the opposition then attack. We might win the ball. We might not we might concede it doesn't matter. But if we win the ball, we make one or two passes between Hanor and Canvo. Maybe Canvo misses Richards out and goes straight to to to Mitchell whatever we we lose the ball. It's sideways, it's sideways, it's sideways. The second that you have to go forward we lose the ball. And that's what happened today. Every time we even looked forward, we lost the ball. There was no movement. It was static. It was passive. And that needs to change. And for that, you need the manager to I for me it's so simple. And I I'm sure it isn't this simple, but for me, excuse me, it's it's as simple as this. Back four, you go back four. All of our centre backs are shit. I'd rather have two shit centre backs the pitch than three, to be honest. I don't know about you. You can still attack with your full backs when you've got a back four. You then have a midfield three, which means we're not getting overrun every single week, which we are in midfield. Commander can then play as the ten, so he's still right in the middle of everything. He can still be creative, but it means you can bring in Saar, who is supposedly one of your best players. You lose nothing defensively switching to a four back. You lose nothing. We're shit defensively anyway. So it's not going to make a difference if we go to a back four, is it? What it what it will mean is that
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: maybe if we have an extra body in midfield or we're a bit more compact, we can maybe prevent the ball from getting to our back line anyway. But I just don't know he's gonna do because this is his system and ultimately he he's gonna wanna play it, he's gonna believe in it because it's what's got him to the Premier League. And you look at it, when he was at Launch, he played the same system was and was unbelievable. I mean, y as a manager, I think he has a sixty-five percent win record, which is incredible. That is gonna plummet massively during his d his
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: time at Palace. But at Lons he was excellent and the players were worse than they are at Palace. They were worse. They were just used to the system. But you don't have time. You don't ha you d there's certain results that are acceptable and that fans can look past. Five nil away to Brighton is not a result you can overlook. It's a disgrace. And I cannot believe that they didn't come over and actually Do you remember when Anderson came over to the to the away fans at
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: at the Amex and he had a bit of an argy bargy? At least it shows he cares. We didn't have any
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: of that. We had none of it. so yeah, I I I think you've got to switch to a bat four. You need to change the system. If he changes the system and it's still not working, there's obviously greater problems going on. If he changes the system and it starts to click, then yeah, you can point at a Sarge and say you should have done it sooner. But for me we've got to see that. I don't think he will. And like I said, I just think he'll get sacked. I just can't I I've said it from the start. I can never see us giving him enough time to be able to kind of actually get to where we need to get to with him. which is a shame. It's a massive shame because what we're gonna go and bring in Sean Deich or Eddie Howe or Kieran McKenna? I mean, Jesus Christ. It's d it's depressing. It's so depressing.
@luke_seychell: Yeah, whatever happens and if Sarge does go, it's gonna be a reset. it's gonna be a reset. It'll be really interesting to see if he did go who he got in, 'cause there's a lot of pressure on that. But Palace do panic. They panic in January. If they're not doing well enough by January, they'll panic and they'll sign players for too much money. January has always been a horrible window to buy in, especially when you are trying to buy attackers. and they will panic if They they they were panicking before Leeds. So this isn't new. They were panicking before Leeds. Like I I will be shocked if he's not gone in terms of Palace's point of view. There clearly is fear and worry from those above and it's been there since the start of the season, which you could exactly say that it not been given enough time. They've not reflected on some of possibly their own mistakes in the summer as well. So I can't see it. I can't s and what do you do now? 'Cause you've got Probably the one of the toughest Europa League games we're gonna get the Sik Tatawait, Turkish atmosphere.
@henryswainjourn: They're gonna pull our pants down, mate.
@luke_seychell: We're talking about no leader and we've got to then go to Turkey.
@henryswainjourn: We've just crumbled like that at the fucking Amex. I mean, having been there today, Jesus man. Like it is the worst club in the world. Like, fair play to
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: them. Fair play. But like before the game, welcome to the coolest city in the world. Ugh. Shut up. Shut the fuck. coming
@luke_seychell: yeah.
@henryswainjourn: off the pitch. Dunkey. they're just disgusting. They're a horrible club. But fair play because they battered us. So you know.
@luke_seychell: Yeah. Yeah. No, exactly. And it's it's gonna be so it's gonna be so difficult 'cause new costs weren't doing well next week and we'll obviously do a proper preview of that. But that feels like what our palace's gonna give him that and then that's the the make or break. It's gonna be a toxic
@henryswainjourn: Must win. This must win.
@luke_seychell: atmosphere. if it's a bad start, especially. but they're conceding so like a lot of goals like we are as well. So
@henryswainjourn: gonna be s shocking. Awful game of football.
@luke_seychell: It's it's just like I think this the issue as well. The Premier League is so competitive this season. you're only like four or five points from the top four, but you're also like two points from relegation, and obviously it's early doors. But I feel like it's gonna stay like that for a lot longer than normal. and it's what can you do in that period? Do you change it up and go elsewhere? If Palace is serious about l possibly second Sarge, in all honesty, they should have been looking at potentials since the Leeds game if that because them rumours came out then. But my issue is they're not going to have the replacement in straight away. and I don't I yeah the same. I don't want to see Sarge go because I do feel like managers get no patience these days and you do see them rewarded if they are given more time. But a club like Palace you just don't you you don't see it. You don't see it. They have to basically have a instant impact in the first six months, a comfortable, safe impact.
@henryswainjourn: It's not how you build a long term project though. It's just not. Like it just it just isn't.
@luke_seychell: Yeah, and this but this is exactly why the likes of pr Brentford, Brighton, are seen as having good products because it's not just to do with the manager, it's to do with the whole club, you know, it's to do with the scouting, it's to do with the future replacements, it's to do with the data, it's to do with the managers they bring in. There's a lot of planning to it. and p Palace are probably a bit in the past with the way they work. And it's obviously reaped its rewards. We are not forgetting what's happened over the last couple of years. But football sadly moves quickly. Football moves quickly. we've got to stay in this division. It is absolutely essential for mid-table Premier League clubs to stay in the division now because it's the money from it is crazy. It's the most competitive league in the world and the championship is getting even harder. so a relegation is not as easy to come back from these days. It's Brighton game today, you're just gonna have to if you're a player, you're just gonna have to write off and try and move on to Turkey. But at the end the big worry is the first halves have been terrible. So how do you change starting well? Like that exactly when you're talking about the four at a back, possibly that, or a more defensive change. Tell your wing backs not to push up as much for the first fifteen minutes. Yes, it might expl might see us not get as many chances, but Just pass the rule ball around for a bit. Just take your time a little bit more. And you've got to go back to square one. And my one issue, I think, with Sarge at the moment is I'm a bit worried he's just gonna be a bit too nice in dealing with this. I can't see him kicking off. and
@henryswainjourn: Okay.
@luke_seychell: I know it's just different managers' work. but I just can't see him. If the players are as dejected as you saw today, I can't see Sarge getting. I think they want to play for him, but Can he get that passion out of him that like a Glasnar can get out of his squad? That what do you think?
@henryswainjourn: I don't think they care. I d and that's just the honest reaction from like watching them today. They don't look like they care, which is horrible to say. But it's true. Like they gen genuinely just didn't look like they gave a shit. None of them. They just walked over, put their hands up quickly, quick clap, quick how long have we been five seconds? Sweet, yeah, we'll just go we'll call it they we'll go in now. They did not care. And like I said earlier at the top of the show, if they cared we wouldn't have lost like that. It's as simple as that. Like Brighton are great. Brighton are fantastic. And I was saying this as well, like, you know, if you went into a a team against the side that were third plays, having won as many as games as they have, having beaten Arsenal without breaking a sweat really at home, like absolutely
@luke_seychell: Yeah, battering them at home. Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: smashed them, you know, it I it it wouldn't be a surprise. I think th it hurts obviously because it's Brighton and it's annoying that it's them that's so good. But the reality is we've just played the team that are now second in the Premier League. Or third, I think maybe 'cause Arsenal won. But e either way, third in the Premier League, and comfortably third, and comfortably one of the best teams in the league this season. That's just the reality of it. They have been fantastic. You know, most goals, most chances created, most expected goals, all of this, all of those stats that are in their favour. Just like they're all completely not in our favour. so you look, you know, it is what it is. They're fan they're a fantastic side, it's really frustrating. But that's the reward of being a well run football club and making good decisions and and making having excellent recruitment. I mean god I'm so jealous of their recruitment. and yeah we won our trophies but to be honest I couldn't really even bring myself to sing about that to well really after ten minutes in because i
@luke_seychell: After the first. Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: it doesn't matter. I'm like there were pe there were Palas fans leaving the the away and like giving it large and it was like like obviously younger lads that were kind of like sixteen,
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: seventeen, eighteen, giving it proper large and it's like boys just take your medicine, just shut the fuck up. Shut your music on and just ignore it because
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: there is no point getting riled up. A couple of got nicked and it's like, you're just idiots, like, what are you doing? but
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: yeah, I I j I I genuinely right now, as we as as we sit here tonight on Sunday evening, cannot see a way out of this for Pierre Sage. Which is a great shame because I've actually really enjoyed him. I like how he speaks,
@luke_seychell: I get a
@henryswainjourn: I like his football. when it's w when it's clicked. and like you know, like Mitchell said in midweek, you know, they're given the right instructions. They're not just not good enough to implement it for a full ninety minutes. And you know, it was it's been, we've done a half here, we've done a half there, maybe we've done sixty minutes. Can we finally get it to a whole game? And instead we didn't do it at all.
@luke_seychell: Yeah. and the next month's huge no matter who the manager is, 'cause you got in the Prem Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool, Coventry, Hull. And then after that you got Chelsea, Villa, United.
@henryswainjourn: I mean l the next two of must wins. The next two of must wins. Spurs are shocking. Newcastle shocking.
@luke_seychell: Yeah. Especially at home.
@henryswainjourn: But the way we're playing, I can I can see Coventry being us. I can see Hull being us. I can see all of them being us. And Basictas, you just by the way, Leandro Trossard is scoring on on Thursday, just so you're just so you're
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: all aware he is going to score. so just prepare yourself for that. But yeah, yeah, just fume, mate. I'm I've Yeah, just feel let down, dejected, pretty empty to be honest. It was just quite you know, and it's always it's always unpleasant, you know. Palace fans started fucking scrapping each other in the away and it's like God
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: dear, just get me to bed. So yeah. Not
@luke_seychell: I know. And
@henryswainjourn: not ri actually to be honest, I was gonna say not a great weekend, but yeah, just a really, really bad weekend.
@luke_seychell: Yeah, and like the goals we conceded in Leon, the goals we conceded in Brighton, they're all so scrappy. So Sarge has to go back to the drawing board, has to sort out a defence. Yeah. yeah, apart f yeah, yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: Other than Gomez. I mean that is a fucking worldie, isn't it? What a goal. What an absolute corker that is. Great view from that away end of that goal. Great view.
@luke_seychell: Yeah. and yeah. I it's just we basically would I'm out
@henryswainjourn: You look out of ideas, bro. You just look done.
@luke_seychell: of ideas, Palisar. We're basically like we'll keep on going in circles if we carried on talking today, but I think the overall assessment is Sarge probably won't get more time realistically, especially if he did somehow get to the Basic Test game. there's been mistakes from not just Sarge, there's been mistakes from players, owners, directors and manager. This is a whole accumulation and I think the club just need to think. They need to go back to the drawing board and they need to not just plan the next six months and survival in the Premier League. They need to think how are we gonna stay sustainable over the next kind of generation of the Palace Squad we're gonna get? Because, you know, it's a rebuild for sure. We've lost huge world class players who've gone to Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Bayern. You know, that is huge players to miss and we've got to think about the rebuild and not just think about the present and the next six months. You got anything else to say, mate?
@henryswainjourn: No, that's it. I d just to be fair, or obviously having to get the d the train back to Brighton instead of with the Palace fans. I just had my airpods in on foot literally on four vol. I've got a headache from how loud I was listening to music. Just like with my head down. did quite enjoy who put the ball in the Bright in the palace net, who put the ball in the palace net, who put the ball
@luke_seychell: Mm yeah.
@henryswainjourn: in the palace net. Half the fucking team did. Good charm. Credit to them. yeah. Nothing else to say, you know. Flute girl, dodgy girl, lucky goal dear. Well it
@luke_seychell: Yeah. I did a tweet.
@henryswainjourn: c it can't get worse, bro. That's that's the thing, it can't get worse than that. That is as bad as it gets.
@luke_seychell: Did a tweet and a TikTok before the game where basically kinda quote for quote I go like, let them get cocky and complacent. Form goes out the window for this one and all this. And I tell ya, that video was on like one point five K views before the game. It's on like eleven K now. I'm getting absolutely violated and I'm just I'm just doing the gif of Homer Simpson hiding in the bush. and I'm just accepting it. And I'm getting sent so many pictures in them comments and it's been horrible and the tweets horrible and I will never ever say that again. and that's what I'm gonna take from today. The game.
@henryswainjourn: This is the game. This is the game.
@luke_seychell: The game's the game. but yes, that's been all for today. We'll be back previewing Basiktas later this week. Don't forget to follow, subscribe, like. Let us know in the comments what you want to happen next. Do you want Sarge to stay? Do you want him to go? I'm sure the comments are gonna be delightful. I'm sure they're gonna be delightful. That has been all for today. We will hopefully see you later when it's a bit more positive.
@henryswainjourn: Yeah, I'm doing great. How about you?
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: Honestly, that is the most despicable the fact I didn't even need to go. I bought a ticket an hour before the game. Why did
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
Because that was
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
It's just it's just a
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: there and watch people clapping them at the end. What are
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
He's never
@luke_seychell: Yeah, really bad file.
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: his head like a bitch. Like a bit they all played like bitches. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, mate. Every challenge,
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
Go
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: out there, boys, and keep being as shit as you're being. That sounds like a great plan, boys. Brilliant. You do that. Concede straight away. I mean we we should have lost eight, nine, ten, nil. Genuinely
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: 'Cause I share footballers.
@luke_seychell: Well, they're all players Sarge wouldn't have wanted. Like at the end of the day.
@henryswainjourn: Course I know. Course I know.
@luke_seychell: Yeah yeah.
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
You
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
What it what it will mean is that
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
That is gonna plummet massively during his d his
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
And I cannot believe that they didn't come over and actually Do you remember when Anderson came over to the to the away fans at
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: at the Amex and he had a bit of an argy bargy? At least it shows he cares. We didn't have any
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like, fair play to
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: them. Fair play. But like before the game, welcome to the coolest city in the world. Ugh. Shut up. Shut the fuck. coming
@luke_seychell: yeah.
I can't see him kicking off. and
@henryswainjourn: Okay.
I'm like there were pe there were Palas fans leaving the the away and like giving it large and it was like like obviously younger lads that were kind of like sixteen,
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: seventeen, eighteen, giving it proper large and it's like boys just take your medicine, just shut the fuck up. Shut your music on and just ignore it because
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: there is no point getting riled up. A couple of got nicked and it's like, you're just idiots, like, what are you doing? but
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@henryswainjourn: yeah, I I j I I genuinely right now, as we as as we sit here tonight on Sunday evening, cannot see a way out of this for Pierre Sage. Which is a great shame because I've actually really enjoyed him. I like how he speaks,
@luke_seychell: I get a
@henryswainjourn: I like his football. when it's w when it's clicked. and like you know, like Mitchell said in midweek, you know, they're given the right instructions.
@luke_seychell: Yeah. Especially at home.
@henryswainjourn: But the way we're playing, I can I can see Coventry being us. I can see Hull being us. I can see all of them being us. And Basictas, you just by the way, Leandro Trossard is scoring on on Thursday, just so you're just so you're
@luke_seychell: Yeah.
@luke_seychell: Yeah, yeah.
@henryswainjourn: dear, just get me to bed. So yeah. Not
@luke_seychell: I know. And
@henryswainjourn: not ri actually to be honest, I was gonna say not a great weekend, but yeah, just a really, really bad weekend.
@luke_seychell: Mm yeah.
@henryswainjourn: in the palace net. Half the fucking team did. Good charm. Credit to them. yeah. Nothing else to say, you know. Flute girl, dodgy girl, lucky goal dear. Well it
@luke_seychell: Yeah. I did a tweet.
