and I'm Ben, but this time we made a little bit more time to go back and watch what we were told is one of the, the great episodes that we missed. Well, Randomly jumping our way through. Breaking Bad.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:00:51
Yeah, so we looked up a handful of best episode lists, and then we have a handful of friends, especially when we were initially pitching this experiment, as it were in, uh, consuming television. Uh, and this is an episode that came up a couple of times, both through them and then also on best episode lists. We've got season three, episode 10, fly.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

did get lucky though. Several of those episodes that are best of, make sure you don't miss this. We randomly hit anyway.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:01:23
Yeah. Uh, I would say a almost troubling number. Like if I were a casual listener, I would think we might be going off of that and rigging dice rolls, which is definitely not what happened. We definitely rolled dice and did the thing. so before we get into this episode, did you see, did you notice in the 10 minute opening credit sequence, who directed this episode?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:01:48

I had an interesting experience coming back to this episode.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:21

00:02:22
We watched nine episodes of Breaking Bad to get to the finale, right?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:27

benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:28
Did it feel weird to feel nostalgic going back to watch a 10th episode of something
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:36
I will say no, but also I've been watching Breaking Bad.

00:02:44
I waited till after we recorded our finale episode. It's been a couple of weeks for us because I just got back from San Diego Comic-Con, so I had my trip there and now we're post that in real time. and so I did have a little bit of time to watch some, I haven't gotten far, but I have seen him interact with the, the couple who were his, like business partners and
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:11
him.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:13
He, Hmm. It is, that synopsis might have been a little misleading.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:18
Did Walt screw himself?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:20
It feels like Walt's screwing himself needlessly. Out of jealousy, to be perfectly honest. And I mean, they like go to his birthday party and someone gives him like one of Eric Clapton's guitars and it's signed by Clapton addressed to him and stuff, you know, and like Walt got him a pack of ramen for his birthday, like they used to eat in college and stuff. And it's just like, I get it. Like there's, there's things to be, to feel bad about there.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:57
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:57
Um, you know, he's like Snobbing and they're like, oh, gray Matter because his name translates to Black and you're Walter White. So they chose their gray matter, the company, and that's still the company name. They're like, oh, so you're like the c o o or something. He's like, no, I got an education. And they're like, oh, what university? And he's just like, uh, but yeah, um, I
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:18
To be fair, knowing what I know about Clapton now, that's a less cool gift.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:25
Uh, I mean, imagine it, you know, 12 years
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:28
He was still a pretty big piece of shit 12 years ago.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:32
Well, but did we know,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:34
Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:36
did we, I don't, I know nothing about Eric Clapton.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:39
Oh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:41
Okay. I will take your word for it and do my own research later.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:46
or don't
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:47
Or don't, I don't really care 'cause I don't care about Eric Clapton.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:50
He's, he wrote a bunch of good songs and if you don't want to bum yourself out, just keep going on. Just divorce the art. Art from the artist, it's fine.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:59
Yeah, I mean, as someone who listened to Kanye for a period of time, that was probably, and, and definitely not after it got unacceptable, but there was a period of time where it was, you had to divorce the art from the artist and still,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:12
But then he started saying some stuff that really started clicking with you.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:15
No. No he didn't. Only one of us is a shaved headman, Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:25
I'm, I'm in a play.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:31
Uh, but where you were feeling nostalgia, I take it.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:33
Yes. So it was, it was interesting like it feeling you get when you go back and you like, catch an episode of a show that you have finished. And it's like, oh, I re, you know, I, I can remember where we were in the general arc and, you know, oh, hey, we're back in the lab and, oh, hey, he's in the Aztec. And like these things that are, you know, long gone, uh, at the end of the show you're like, oh, hey. It feels nice to be like, transported to an earlier time. I think it's one of the things that makes like a comfort show. A comfort show. Because like there's a predictability to it because you've seen it already. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:15
Do you feel like Breaking Bad is a comfort show for you? Now, after this watch through, after our nine episode watch through.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:23
I don't, I don't, I don't, I, I don't think so. I've still got my, my go-tos.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:28
Yeah, it's a little high drama and
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:31
yeah, if, if I really want
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:33
show.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:33
if I really want to, to do that, I'm gonna watch, you know. Scrubs or psyche or something that's a little lower stakes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:43
Fair enough. Speaking of low stakes, this intro, what the hell is this intro?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:49
Yeah. We, we come in, in media, lullaby and in media fly. Uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:54
What is going on
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:56
well, it's just a fly clean in itself.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:59
to Skylar singing lullabies,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:02
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:04
which I does come back admittedly. but it's just like, it's so weird.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:11
it is weird.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:13
It's weird for this show. Probably we're not the best judges.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:18
No, but it's not all that weird for Ryan Johnson.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:21
No, that's fair. It is not all that weird for Ryan Johnson. after theme, we have a sleepless night for Walt, as he and Jesse arrive at Gus's Super Glb.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:32
Well, I did, I did appreciate, when they, we saw, when they saw got the lab and the whole thing was like, Hey, you're a contractor. Like as long as I get the output, I don't care when you work. Then we see Walt alarm going off 6:00 AM Alright, time to make the donuts, you know, dragging himself outta bed. And it's like, oh, this didn't work out. This isn't contractor hours, is it?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:00
They even make a jab at, surprise that Gus doesn't make them use the time clock.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:06
Yes, although I'm guessing, punching in and out. Good. Not great for like. Hiding crimes. Uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:17
Yeah. You don't want that record there for sure.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:19
yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:19
Uh, we see them scrubbing as Jesse clearly watched Animal Planet last night.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:25
So, and this is interesting, he's talking about hyenas, uh, and their, their PAC mentalities. And he also, later in the episode, Walt talks about watching an elephant documentary. And this just reminds me like, oh, right, so this is, writer's shorthand for my characters watching tv, but we are not referencing any real TV shows.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:50
They, they do say the Discovery Channel at one point,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:53
yeah. So,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:55
have been a sister network to a m C back then, who knows?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:59
but it, it did, it did make me think like, Hey, maybe this is just something they talk about, like, Maybe this isn't like writer, like, I can't say they were watching Mad Men, so they were watching an Elephant or Hyena documentary, or we find out later, Jesse also watched an Ebola documentary. Um, I, I like to think they're sitting there making meth and being like, yo, dude, you catch Shark Week, Jesse. You know I'm watching Shark Week. Jesse. We have to cook. We have to get a week ahead. We know we're taking Shark Week off.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:38
I did not have Jesse pinned as the documentary type, but the more he talks about it, the more I believe it.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:46
Oh yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:47
there's a great line in here too that Gatorade me bitch.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:50
Yeah. Jesse starts complaining about, why don't we have staff? You know, we are here to make the meth. Why don't we have people here working to facilitate us making the meth so we can just focus on the meth? Which, I mean,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:06
It's more people.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:07
it's more people, but it's also. Hey, if there is less downtime, to keep the people who are actually producing millions of dollars, producing millions of dollars,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:20
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:21
you can get three people who ain't gonna talk.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:26
so, uh, Walt is doing math after all of this cleaning,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:33
yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:33
and, he's the accountant looking for the missing $26 million in the ledger notes here. Uh, there should be another half pound or so of meth based on what's going into the cook.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:46
This is just reminding me of, we have a, uh, mutual friend. I don't know if I'll say any more than that.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:52
Yeah. Yeah. We don't need to name them.

00:10:54
Once contacted me, say, uh, contacted both of us saying, oh my gosh, I'm at work and I lost $6 million and I don't know what to do. Although he was just worried about getting fired. Walt is like, if we don't find this, they might shoot us. So
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:13
Yeah, it's a big deal.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:17
yeah, they're talking about condensation, evaporation, and vestiges.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:21
yeah. Jesse tries to science word real hard here.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:25
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:26
He's learned something though. is your assumption here that Jesse is skimming off the top and that's why he came up with all these reasons?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:34
Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:35
It's the conclusion Walt comes to by the end of the episode.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:39
I don't think so.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:41
He doesn't seem to be on meth at the moment,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:46
yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:47
but it's hard to say given the bottle nature of the episode.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:52
Yeah, we would have to have to follow up, but like Jesse doesn't seem like a, I take half a pound from every batch kind of guy.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:03
Yeah, it seems like a lot and he's real offended later in the episode, so, but he could also just be playing real offended, uh, Jesse heads out and a fly lands on Watt's paper. He fails to squish it. He has a little outburst trying to get it. He tries using his clipboard as a swatter and fails. He's making Bill Bergen look good at bat here. No, I make one baseball reference in all of our history of podcasting together. And you don't get it, Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:33
Sorry, I don't know. Bill Bergen.

00:12:35
He's the worst batter in major league baseball history.

00:12:38

00:12:40
batted a 0.17.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:44
Alright, that's bad. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:49
he, he was a shortstop, I think.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:52
was he like a really good defender and they just like put up with it or,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:56
I have no idea, Ben. I just looked up who the worst batter was.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:00
Alright. Uh, but, uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:03
Nolan Ryan has more home runs than him.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:06
Ooh, Ooh. Nolan Ryan was a pitcher. Uh, they don't normally have a whole lot of those unless you're Shhe Tani,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:15
Yeah. I found out there were four in my research. I noticed that there were four pitchers in Major League baseball history who threw a no-hitter and hit a home run the same game.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:25
Hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:25
That's a good day
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:27
That is a good day. Uh, but this. This did resonate with me 'cause Walt starts just like losing it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:35
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:35
And I have definitely had those days where it's just, I am so tired, something is stressing me out at work. And now there's like just that one little thing, like a fly or you've got a plate and it came out of the dishwasher and it's still got some like, Something stuck to it and you can't get it off or, you know, whatever it is that just this little thing shouldn't be the thing that sets you off, but it is the, you know, the snowflake that starts the, A avalanche.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:21
he breaks a light and gets his shoe stuck in the lamp.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:24
Yeah,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:26
I am wondering how this happens. It looked like the, it was hanging by the, uh, the laces Thank you. And it does not make sense to me.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:39
not really.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:40
But it's Ryan
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:41
up onto, if he climbs up onto the catwalk to try and get his shoe down with a broom.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:47
Mm-hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:48
And then, oh, there's, there's the Fly and Walt Eats shit.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:57
He totally deserves to fall. Because he is a complete dumb ass trying to do this from where he's at. Like if you think about the force and the motion and where energy is going and where you're moving and where you're. Putting that motion and where you're like able to stand and where you're, you're holding your brace against and stuff, you absolutely deserve to fall. I was gonna be real upset if he didn't fall and then he fell, hit the tank, and then crumpled to the ground. And he's an old man and I really just like my back hurt watching it, but also like dumb ass on you, dude.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:15:36
It was full, uh, Toby McGuire from, uh, spider-Man two, when he loses his powers and eats shit off of the, uh, the roof into that alley, just bam, bam.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:15:47
We queue to the next morning, uh, when Jesse
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:15:49
just wanna say, how funny would it have been if he just. Tank floor, he lands on top of the broken glass and then it's just credits. And that's how Walter White dies.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:06
Wouldn't have been fucking crazy if he had died right there. And then the rest of the episode was flashback and we just didn't know.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:14
Hmm. Are you saying the rest of breaking the last two and a half seasons of Breaking Bad is a uh, uh, Jacob's Ladder scenario?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:21
Yes, exactly.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:22
Okay.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:23
Um, We cut to the next morning. Jesse arrives to find. Walt has pressurized the lab because of a contamination. Walt is upset and Jesse is confused. So it's like every other episode we watched of this show.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:38
Yeah. one, one little bit of foreshadowing, as Jesse arrives, he notices a cigarette butt in the ashtray with lipstick on
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:46
Mm-hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:48
um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:49
That's called foreshadowing.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:52
also, uh, I don't know if you, uh, know this jair. I did a little bit of, Google, uh, searching while I was watching the episode.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:00
Which
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:01
The average
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:01
able to do.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:02
yeah. The average housely lives 15 to to 30 days. Now, I don't know what this housefly would be subsisting on. Uh, you know, there's not like, Meth fly coming this sun, summer to sci-fi.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:21
I would watch Jeff Goldblum play that fly. He's, he's got the most experience. He's the obvious choice.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:28
but, uh, I was wondering like at what point if you're Walt, do you just be like, I'm gonna take a nap and this thing will be dead. Um, but if it's gonna be 15 to 30 days, okay. Let's kill the, kill the fly. oh, so Walt is trying to tell Jesse, like, we've gotta contaminate and like refuses to say we have a fly in the lab.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:56
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:57
Walt has like in zero seconds gone full Ahab.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:03
Oh, for sure.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:04
Uh, and it's just like you're not just. Being like, you're not just being crazy, you're being willfully obtuse.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:14
Yeah,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:15
you just have to say, Jesse, there's a fly in here. We've got to kill it. Now. It's less of an issue than, just his weird unhinged ranting. Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:28
Well, he doesn't respect Jesse. He never did. Maybe, maybe at some point. But this is just more of that. Jesse's would not take a fly seriously. So I have to use the word contaminant.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:41
it also at this point, I started wondering, is Walt just looking for excuses not to be cooking?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:50
Hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:51
Hey, we can't cook until I figure out this math irregularity. you know, hey, I can't cook until I've killed this fly. Oh, no. Now I can't cook until I've done X or Y or Z. It really feels like. He is looking for any excuse to not be making meth. At least that's how I read it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:12
Yeah, I mean he does seem real set that. This fly could actually ruin a batch of meth. I, at the scale that they're cooking, do not see how that is possible.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:24
No, and everything's sealed.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:26
Yeah. It's just, it does feel like something else is going on.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:33
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:34
Um, but Walt is also the guy that buries himself in work when something else is going on. So it's
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:42
Uh, at this point we also find out that Walt and Jesse are 50 50 partners.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:46
Yes, this is after, this would've been after the 3 million to cook for three months
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:01
Yes. Before they kill Gail.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:04
before they kill Gail, before Jesse goes down to Mexico.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:09
Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:10
Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:11
Uh, and here we get a. A really nice moment for Jesse. The, the fly lands on Walt's face and Walt's like, Jesse, you gotta get it. And Jesse's like, oh, I'm going to get it. And just clobbers Walt in the face.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:37
Walt does confirm the fly corpse is just a raisin.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:42
yes. Uh, which, why is there a raisin in there?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:45
Well, we know what the fly will subsist off of.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:47
oh. Yeah. Somebody, somebody brought in, uh, some, uh, go, uh, is Gorp Region regional.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:56
I have no idea what corp is Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:58
Uh, trail mix.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:00
Okay. You know what trail mix is?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:03
Okay.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:04
Is go a brand of trail mix.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:06
No, it's just a, that is how, trail mix was to, was referred to me growing up.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:12
Oh nah. I don't know if that's regional so much as you growing up in the boons.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:21
Uh, also at this point, I thought of the, the, the, uh, not euphemism, uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

Metaphor.

00:21:32
the, just the, the line. You catch more flies with honey. It's just like, why don't you put out some honey? Like do something to trap the thing. Why are you going after it with, with your homemade fly swat?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:43
The fact that they don't turn off all of the lights and then put a very bright lamp in the center of the room or something
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:50
Yeah. like, they are not good. They're not good fly hunters.

00:21:54
no. Uh, Jesse tries to get Walt to calm down by, uh, trying to tell him to get some fresh air. He responds by, locking Jesse out of the lab. Jesse. Starts screaming out El Axo.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:11
Yes,

00:22:11
Ben, do you know what the Spanish word for ax is?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:16
I'm going to, I don't, I'm gonna take a guess.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:19
go for it. Hacha like hatch. It makes sense.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:24
Oh, okay.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:25
Do you know what El Axo is in Spanish?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:30
No.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:32
He's asking this like a question too. He's like El Axo. He wants to know where it is. El Axo translates to the year.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:50
So they're just like, oh, no. Another time traveler came into our laundromat, I did, I did appreciate Jesse finds his way to a maintenance room where he finds himself a a little hammer, a big pry bar, and then a sledgehammer. And I did like just the, oh, as I work my way across this bench, I get bigger tools.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:14
I did appreciate that. Uh, he shuts the power off to stop. Watt's Madness.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:20
Now how did he do that? With a sledgehammer? I don't know.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:26
Jesse goes shopping and they hang a ton of fly strips all over the lab, and he puts some sleeping pills in Walt's coffee.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:34
Yeah,

00:23:35
He's drunking him because he cares.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:38
but I did appreciate we get to see science coffee again.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:42
Yes. Jesse fills the air with some noise about possums waiting for Walt to pass out. Uh, but his story about trying to care less and move on with things in your life. Walt thinks he's just talking about Walt's cancer and completely misses the point.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:58
Yes. Also, Jair. Do you know what the difference is between a possum and an O possum?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:06
No.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:07
Different animals. Uh, this is part of, uh, part of, Jesse's thing is he's talking about, there was an o possum underneath his aunt's house.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:16
Mm-hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:17
and he was like, man, but I thought they were just possums. But now their o possums is, possums are from Australia, O possums are from, north and South America.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:26
Okay. Good to know.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:28
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:30
Uh, so I was scared by an O possum as a child.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:34
Yes. Unless you were in Australia,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:36
No, I was in my backyard.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:39
uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:39
Have I ever told you that story?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:41
I don't know. Go ahead.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:43
Okay, so we had a o possum that was living under my family's deck. I am 11, I'll guess maybe 12. Um, and it had made its way outside and was, we had an apple tree in our backyard and so it was eating some crab apples in my dad's all like, oh, it's finally out from under the deck. I'm gonna get that thing goes, grabs a handgun. Uh, Puts in some low power 22 rounds so that this just sounds like a pop gun goes out back while it's eating. Apples shoots it like five times, right? Just pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. It's like, oh, that thing's dead right? Hey, son, go grab a shovel. So I'm like, okay, go grab a shovel. Gonna put this dead O possum in the trash. Well, guess what? Wasn't dead?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:25:43
The A possum.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:25:44
The A possum wasn't dead and it, when I got the shovel underneath it, it looked up at me screeched with its claws out, and then ran under the deck where it died like a week later. Uh, we had to pull up the deck boards to get to it. It was a whole thing. Uh, but that was one of the scariest thing that's ever happened to me.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:08
I believe it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:10
I am just young enough to be all like, oh my God, and forget that I'm literally holding a six foot hunk of wood with a metal end on it.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:19
Yeah, you can finish this thing.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:20
Like, like if I had the wherewithal, I could have just like bonked it real good. Uh,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:27
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:28
I like as far as like the capability to defend myself in that situation, I was fine. but it just was so jarring. It just scared the shit outta me. Yeah,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:38
I'm also
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:39
that's my o possum story. It's always been my possum story up until this point.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:44
well, I'm, uh, I'm glad, I'm glad to have, uh, uh, Educated you, the more you know, uh, also this does feel very on brand for Chuck, that he shot something five times, didn't confirm it was dead, and said, Hey, somebody else take care of this.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:05
He was usually pretty good about making sure it was dead.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:09
I don't
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:09
a handful of other foundational childhood memories related to that. Trauma anyways, uh, the conversation turns into, uh, Walt, saying that he's lived too long.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:25
Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:26
He's allowed his family's memories of him to have turned sour if he had, uh, only died before he got caught. He admits saying the quiet part out loud. Uh, he recalls the night Kristin Ritter died.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:41
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:42
Uh, he tells Jesse that that night he went to a bar and randomly had a conversation with Q. He just didn't know it at the time.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:56
Yes. Which man? I was immediately tempted to be like, Ooh, ooh, Cranston and Delancey. I wanna go back and watch that episode. Uh, but I
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:09
would be a lot heavier if we had seen those episodes. I'll get there eventually.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:16
But yeah, this is actually like something I have thought about, the issue of the pace of dying being the harder part than the actual, like dying.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:29
Yeah. This is something we both have some personal experience with, uh, me with my father, you with your father-in-law, um, that we could totally talk about on POD and be a giant bummer. I.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:41
Yeah, well this whole episode is a giant bummer, so
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:44
true, you know, um, it's, it's a very different circumstance in, in our case, it's both, you know, the slow passing of someone to disease and illness. Um, in this case, it's the, uh, slow dissent into criminal madness,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:04
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:05
uh, with, with a sprinkle of cancer.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:08
Yeah. With, uh, some, some, uh, meth sprinkles.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:13
I don't think, I don't think, uh, the cancer's what ruins that this there,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:20
no.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:21
the, the slow, the withering of someone and having to live with that and witness it and it's terrible and I can't, I can only speak about it casually so that I don't, uh, one, talk about it for hours and also, Openly weep on podcast. 'cause I don't think anyone signed up for this episode expecting that.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:42
No.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:42
but at the same time, it's definitely like his criminal and his, uh, it's, what's the word I'm looking for? His, his hubris.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:57
It does, he does have some, some real hubris going on. 'cause it's like one of the things he goes on is like, there has to be some combination of words that could make her understand. It's like, or you just did the wrong thing, buddy. Like he never seconds guess, never second guesses himself. It's her fault for not understanding.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:17
Yeah. It's never, I did the wrong thing. It's, I got caught. He doesn't regret becoming a drug kingpin. He regret. He regrets getting caught.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:26
Well it's
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:26
Which is what makes him a shitty person.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:29
It, it's not even, uh, we're getting, getting caught. It's the, uh, alright, we're gonna use your eye statements. I'm sorry. You are mad. And it's like, no, I'm sorry. Me becoming a, a meth kingpin of the Southeast, and doing this for us Skylar, is something you don't appreciate. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:50
Right. Ugh. Such a fucking asshole. Anyways, he tells Jesse, you know, it just goes on about the conversation he had with John Delancey. You know, like, what are the chances of that? I tried to calculate the chances of that, you know, and well, yes, they're going to be very small if you do any kind of actual math on that.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:17
But it's the, the chances of two random people in Albuquerque meeting. It's not impossible.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:25
Yes. Yeah. It's not like he, well, no. As an air traffic controller, he would be local, actually. So it's not even like he was flying around. Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:34
no, But, uh, the conversation kind of gets Jesse on the, alright, I see the fly, it's up there on the light. I'm going to, uh, engage in a, uh, world of OSHA violations and put the ladder up on top of these, tool boxes and climb up there to whack it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:53
This is so dumb. This is the dumbest thing I've seen Jesse do and that's saying something. This is the dumbest thing I've seen anyone in a workplace do, and I, along with someone else, once climbed in the back of a truck with loose steel piled 12 feet high to find other pieces of loose steel in the pile of loose steel. This is dumb. This is Dumber than Cliving. The 12 foot racks in the back of a Walmart, Walmart style store. This is, this is exponentially dumb. Those carts are on Wheels. Wheels.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:34
yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:35
I'm so mad.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:37
Yes. I did, I did think it was interesting. Walt says he's sorry about Jane,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:42
A bunch. Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:44
but he never says what he did.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:47
Nope, he does not understand what Walt is trying to apologize for because Walt is a shitty communicator and men would literally rather become drug lords over New Mexico than go to therapy.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:33:00
Hey, Hey, look, if those are the two options, I, I'm just saying.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:33:13
Walt finally gives into slumber. says it's time to cook. As Jesse gets the fly and Walt falls asleep. Jesse finishes the cook. While he rests. Walt tells Jesse if he took the missing half pound, he can't protect them. Jesse is offended. Walt goes home and there is a fly waiting for him. I wanted to run through that last bit, Ben, because I've been waiting. I've been waiting for. Three weeks since we recorded our last episode. Y You won the points
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

00:34:12
I didn't, I,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:14
I'm flying blind.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:16
Jair
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:17
Did you fill it in
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:18
up that spreadsheet.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:19
didn't fill it in. I didn't look today.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:22
it's okay. Uh, I added a whole bunch of stuff to it. Uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:26
Okay,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:27
I also, I. I had forgotten that, uh, you wanted me to, to rate everything. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:34
fine. You, you can do that later. It was just kind of a like, get an idea of where we stand on stuff.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:40
yes. So, uh, we, we want to jump right over the absolute insanity of having your smoke detector right above your bed, so you're getting that red light blinking at you all night
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:05
It is very dumb.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:07
Oh yeah. Um, you wanna know what our next show's going to be?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:12
I need to know what our next shoe is going to be, Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:16
Well, uh, I've made, uh, I've made some jokes to some mutual friends who have also demanded to know,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:24
Well, I feel like they don't get to find out before me,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:28
No. That's why I said Clarissa explains it all. Um, that said, if we are, if we are sticking to, uh, serialized stuff, we could do the secret world of Alex Mack.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:38
which I've also seen.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:40
but do you remember any of it?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:42
I remember bits and pieces.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:45
Okay. Uh, so we, we did have a little bit of a conversation off pod about what do we want to do next? And we came to a, a agreement that, well, there are some really, really good other like crime shows. We don't want to go from crime to crime.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:05
No.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:06
So we wouldn't want to go to an Oz or a Boardwalk Empire or a, uh, I don't know, a Ray Donovan. Uh, anything that is more shady, people doing shady stuff and getting in over their heads and shooting somebody. so. I was thinking about what, what's a TV show that I've, I've always really wanted to watch that, like, now this would be a great opportunity to do so, but you know, is gonna change it up for us. And basically I just decided, you know what I really want to see,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:49
Hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:50
I wanna see somebody get roundhouse kicked in the face. Jair,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:55
Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:56
into the Badlands.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:57
I have never heard of this show.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:02
You had it on the list.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:05
Uh, I, that means it was just something that doesn't mean that I know anything about it because the list was the list on the receipt that we had. So it means you brought it up before
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:18
be fair, you added some stuff to this. I did not know there was a Highlander, the animated series.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:23
was on our OG document list. Uh, I don't know that there is a Highlander, the Rich Animated series. I didn't look it up. Um, it was just on the list.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:36
It might've just been Highlander, the series.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:40
Um, it might have just been
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:41
no, there is Highlander, the animated series. It's got 40 episodes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:47
Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:47
I,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:48
Huh?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:49
we can watch it on Peacock.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:52
Huh.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:53
Okay, well
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:56
Okay, well, we're watching into the battles. Um, I know nothing about this show, Ben. Tell me about the show. I'm guessing people getting roundhouse kicked.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:38:06
Yes. So, uh, it is an a m C TV show, so we are staying with, uh, with that. Uh, so, uh, I'll give you the, the first line, uh, in a post apocalyptic world, nearly fi approximately 500 years in the future, or is left civilization in ruins. Some elements of technology such as electricity and ground vehicles have survived the apocalypse, but society now shuns firearms leading to a reliance on melee, weaponry, and crossbows. In a territory known as the Bad Lands, encompassing several states between the Rocky Mountains and Mississippi River, a futile society has developed to fill the power vacuum left by the war Barons control land and monopolies over commodities like opium and fuel trading amongst themselves To maintain the peace, each baron is served by a massive workforce of slaves called slaves called cogs, as well as a prostitute class called dolls. A Baron maintains power through an army of young men and women called Clippers. Highly trained and loyal warriors, clippers are forbidden from marrying and having children, lest their loyalties be divided. Each clipper force is captioned, captained by a regent, and it keeps going on, but it's a retro future. Hong Kong action TV show, like kinda like a, a kung fu.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:32
I love me some kung fu.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:34
Uh, sorry. It has been described as a high octane sci-fi martial arts series.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:40
Okay, well that sounds fun.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:43
that I've always wanted to watch, and this is a great excuse.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:49
Alright, how many, so it looks like there's only 32 episodes of this show in three seasons.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:56
Yep. So three 10 episode seasons. That was also another thing where it's like, I'm not picking, uh, something with like 400 episodes, that's going to be a slog. It's like we're gonna be in and out of this in five
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:09
we can adjust how many episodes we want to see here. So for Breaking Bad, we tried to set it up mathematically to do two episodes a season. Uh, do we
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:20
I think that's the same kind of goal.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:22
same kind of goal. Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:23
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:24
Yeah, I would say if something's got more than 10 seasons, that may be seven seasons. We drop it down from to a season to one seven's that magic syndication number. So that's, that might be a good one to work with.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:38
Yeah,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:39
We'll call it as we see 'em though. Alright, well I will, uh, do the math on that later. Uh, because our three D four will not work for that.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:49
no.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:50
probably end up doing. I actually might have it figured out already on the other sheet. If we're going for five, we could do one D 10. two D four two D four is, uh, five average. That could work.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:12
I mean, we, We just have to know it, uh, after the end of the next episode
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:17
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:18
'cause we're gonna watch the pilot.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:19
Yeah, we gotta watch that pilot first, and we're gonna do that in two weeks. We're taking a little break,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

00:41:27
as I run away to Las Vegas, so
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:38

xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

00:41:51
the musical. Yeah. Yeah. You really need to explain that because it does not sound good. Just leaving your mouth without context.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:42:01
I just, I just go to, uh, to orphanages and be like, oh, hey. No, no. Nope. I'm, I'm, this is going back to the play. Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:42:11

xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:42:26
cool. Um, fantastic. I still have that. Uh, alright, so we'll see you in a couple of weeks with that. Uh, but until then we just have to say thank you. To ripe that lovely, lovely band that gave us the permission to use our absolute favorite fucking bop, favorite song, goon Squad as our theme music. Thank you so much. We appreciate the shit out of it in ways that words will not allow me to properly express. Uh, you should check out their music on all streaming services. They're fucking everywhere and they're a hundred percent worth your time, so you should totally do that. Then we'd also like to thank Annette Lucina for the photograph of a TV licensed under Creative Commons, which we used as part of our podcast cover Art. Thank you for that and for using the creative common license so that artists who are just doing their thing can continue to do their thing without having to worry about stock art prices.

xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:00:35
I'm Jair.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:00:36
and I'm Ben, but this time we made a little bit more time to go back and watch what we were told is one of the, the great episodes that we missed. Well, Randomly jumping our way through. Breaking Bad.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:00:51
Yeah, so we looked up a handful of best episode lists, and then we have a handful of friends, especially when we were initially pitching this experiment, as it were in, uh, consuming television. Uh, and this is an episode that came up a couple of times, both through them and then also on best episode lists. We've got season three, episode 10, fly.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:01:14
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:01:15
Um,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:01:16
did get lucky though. Several of those episodes that are best of, make sure you don't miss this. We randomly hit anyway.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:01:23
Yeah. Uh, I would say a almost troubling number. Like if I were a casual listener, I would think we might be going off of that and rigging dice rolls, which is definitely not what happened. We definitely rolled dice and did the thing. so before we get into this episode, did you see, did you notice in the 10 minute opening credit sequence, who directed this episode?

benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:01:56

xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:05

I was super stoked.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:09

benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:15
you fair?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:16
Yeah, Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:17
I had an interesting experience coming back to this episode.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:21
Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:22
We watched nine episodes of Breaking Bad to get to the finale, right?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:27
Yep.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:28
Did it feel weird to feel nostalgic going back to watch a 10th episode of something
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:36
I will say no, but also I've been watching Breaking Bad.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:42
you traitor?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:02:44
I waited till after we recorded our finale episode. It's been a couple of weeks for us because I just got back from San Diego Comic-Con, so I had my trip there and now we're post that in real time. and so I did have a little bit of time to watch some, I haven't gotten far, but I have seen him interact with the, the couple who were his, like business partners and
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:11
him.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:13
He, Hmm. It is, that synopsis might have been a little misleading.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:18
Did Walt screw himself?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:20
It feels like Walt's screwing himself needlessly. Out of jealousy, to be perfectly honest. And I mean, they like go to his birthday party and someone gives him like one of Eric Clapton's guitars and it's signed by Clapton addressed to him and stuff, you know, and like Walt got him a pack of ramen for his birthday, like they used to eat in college and stuff. And it's just like, I get it. Like there's, there's things to be, to feel bad about there.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:57
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:03:57
Um, you know, he's like Snobbing and they're like, oh, gray Matter because his name translates to Black and you're Walter White. So they chose their gray matter, the company, and that's still the company name. They're like, oh, so you're like the c o o or something. He's like, no, I got an education. And they're like, oh, what university? And he's just like, uh, but yeah, um, I
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:18
To be fair, knowing what I know about Clapton now, that's a less cool gift.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:25
Uh, I mean, imagine it, you know, 12 years
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:28
He was still a pretty big piece of shit 12 years ago.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:32
Well, but did we know,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:34
Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:36
did we, I don't, I know nothing about Eric Clapton.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:39
Oh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:41
Okay. I will take your word for it and do my own research later.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:46
or don't
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:47
Or don't, I don't really care 'cause I don't care about Eric Clapton.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:50
He's, he wrote a bunch of good songs and if you don't want to bum yourself out, just keep going on. Just divorce the art. Art from the artist, it's fine.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:04:59
Yeah, I mean, as someone who listened to Kanye for a period of time, that was probably, and, and definitely not after it got unacceptable, but there was a period of time where it was, you had to divorce the art from the artist and still,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:12
But then he started saying some stuff that really started clicking with you.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:15
No. No he didn't. Only one of us is a shaved headman, Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:25
I'm, I'm in a play.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:31
Uh, but where you were feeling nostalgia, I take it.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:05:33
Yes. So it was, it was interesting like it feeling you get when you go back and you like, catch an episode of a show that you have finished. And it's like, oh, I re, you know, I, I can remember where we were in the general arc and, you know, oh, hey, we're back in the lab and, oh, hey, he's in the Aztec. And like these things that are, you know, long gone, uh, at the end of the show you're like, oh, hey. It feels nice to be like, transported to an earlier time. I think it's one of the things that makes like a comfort show. A comfort show. Because like there's a predictability to it because you've seen it already. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:15
Do you feel like Breaking Bad is a comfort show for you? Now, after this watch through, after our nine episode watch through.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:23
I don't, I don't, I don't, I, I don't think so. I've still got my, my go-tos.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:28
Yeah, it's a little high drama and
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:31
yeah, if, if I really want
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:33
show.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:33
if I really want to, to do that, I'm gonna watch, you know. Scrubs or psyche or something that's a little lower stakes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:43
Fair enough. Speaking of low stakes, this intro, what the hell is this intro?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:49
Yeah. We, we come in, in media, lullaby and in media fly. Uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:54
What is going on
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:56
well, it's just a fly clean in itself.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:06:59
to Skylar singing lullabies,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:02
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:04
which I does come back admittedly. but it's just like, it's so weird.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:11
it is weird.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:13
It's weird for this show. Probably we're not the best judges.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:18
No, but it's not all that weird for Ryan Johnson.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:21
No, that's fair. It is not all that weird for Ryan Johnson. after theme, we have a sleepless night for Walt, as he and Jesse arrive at Gus's Super Glb.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:07:32
Well, I did, I did appreciate, when they, we saw, when they saw got the lab and the whole thing was like, Hey, you're a contractor. Like as long as I get the output, I don't care when you work. Then we see Walt alarm going off 6:00 AM Alright, time to make the donuts, you know, dragging himself outta bed. And it's like, oh, this didn't work out. This isn't contractor hours, is it?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:00
They even make a jab at, surprise that Gus doesn't make them use the time clock.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:06
Yes, although I'm guessing, punching in and out. Good. Not great for like. Hiding crimes. Uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:17
Yeah. You don't want that record there for sure.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:19
yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:19
Uh, we see them scrubbing as Jesse clearly watched Animal Planet last night.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:25
So, and this is interesting, he's talking about hyenas, uh, and their, their PAC mentalities. And he also, later in the episode, Walt talks about watching an elephant documentary. And this just reminds me like, oh, right, so this is, writer's shorthand for my characters watching tv, but we are not referencing any real TV shows.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:50
They, they do say the Discovery Channel at one point,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:53
yeah. So,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:55
have been a sister network to a m C back then, who knows?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:08:59
but it, it did, it did make me think like, Hey, maybe this is just something they talk about, like, Maybe this isn't like writer, like, I can't say they were watching Mad Men, so they were watching an Elephant or Hyena documentary, or we find out later, Jesse also watched an Ebola documentary. Um, I, I like to think they're sitting there making meth and being like, yo, dude, you catch Shark Week, Jesse. You know I'm watching Shark Week. Jesse. We have to cook. We have to get a week ahead. We know we're taking Shark Week off.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:38
I did not have Jesse pinned as the documentary type, but the more he talks about it, the more I believe it.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:46
Oh yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:47
there's a great line in here too that Gatorade me bitch.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:09:50
Yeah. Jesse starts complaining about, why don't we have staff? You know, we are here to make the meth. Why don't we have people here working to facilitate us making the meth so we can just focus on the meth? Which, I mean,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:06
It's more people.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:07
it's more people, but it's also. Hey, if there is less downtime, to keep the people who are actually producing millions of dollars, producing millions of dollars,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:20
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:21
you can get three people who ain't gonna talk.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:26
so, uh, Walt is doing math after all of this cleaning,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:33
yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:33
and, he's the accountant looking for the missing $26 million in the ledger notes here. Uh, there should be another half pound or so of meth based on what's going into the cook.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:46
This is just reminding me of, we have a, uh, mutual friend. I don't know if I'll say any more than that.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:52
Yeah. Yeah. We don't need to name them.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:10:54
Once contacted me, say, uh, contacted both of us saying, oh my gosh, I'm at work and I lost $6 million and I don't know what to do. Although he was just worried about getting fired. Walt is like, if we don't find this, they might shoot us. So
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:13
Yeah, it's a big deal.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:17
yeah, they're talking about condensation, evaporation, and vestiges.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:21
yeah. Jesse tries to science word real hard here.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:25
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:26
He's learned something though. is your assumption here that Jesse is skimming off the top and that's why he came up with all these reasons?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:34
Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:35
It's the conclusion Walt comes to by the end of the episode.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:39
I don't think so.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:41
He doesn't seem to be on meth at the moment,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:46
yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:47
but it's hard to say given the bottle nature of the episode.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:11:52
Yeah, we would have to have to follow up, but like Jesse doesn't seem like a, I take half a pound from every batch kind of guy.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:03
Yeah, it seems like a lot and he's real offended later in the episode, so, but he could also just be playing real offended, uh, Jesse heads out and a fly lands on Watt's paper. He fails to squish it. He has a little outburst trying to get it. He tries using his clipboard as a swatter and fails. He's making Bill Bergen look good at bat here. No, I make one baseball reference in all of our history of podcasting together. And you don't get it, Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:33
Sorry, I don't know. Bill Bergen.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:35
He's the worst batter in major league baseball history.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:38
Oh, fun.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:40
batted a 0.17.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:44
Alright, that's bad. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:49
he, he was a shortstop, I think.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:52
was he like a really good defender and they just like put up with it or,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:12:56
I have no idea, Ben. I just looked up who the worst batter was.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:00
Alright. Uh, but, uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:03
Nolan Ryan has more home runs than him.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:06
Ooh, Ooh. Nolan Ryan was a pitcher. Uh, they don't normally have a whole lot of those unless you're Shhe Tani,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:15
Yeah. I found out there were four in my research. I noticed that there were four pitchers in Major League baseball history who threw a no-hitter and hit a home run the same game.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:25
Hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:25
That's a good day
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:27
That is a good day. Uh, but this. This did resonate with me 'cause Walt starts just like losing it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:35
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:13:35
And I have definitely had those days where it's just, I am so tired, something is stressing me out at work. And now there's like just that one little thing, like a fly or you've got a plate and it came out of the dishwasher and it's still got some like, Something stuck to it and you can't get it off or, you know, whatever it is that just this little thing shouldn't be the thing that sets you off, but it is the, you know, the snowflake that starts the, A avalanche.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:21
he breaks a light and gets his shoe stuck in the lamp.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:24
Yeah,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:26
I am wondering how this happens. It looked like the, it was hanging by the, uh, the laces Thank you. And it does not make sense to me.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:39
not really.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:40
But it's Ryan
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:41
up onto, if he climbs up onto the catwalk to try and get his shoe down with a broom.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:47
Mm-hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:48
And then, oh, there's, there's the Fly and Walt Eats shit.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:14:57
He totally deserves to fall. Because he is a complete dumb ass trying to do this from where he's at. Like if you think about the force and the motion and where energy is going and where you're moving and where you're. Putting that motion and where you're like able to stand and where you're, you're holding your brace against and stuff, you absolutely deserve to fall. I was gonna be real upset if he didn't fall and then he fell, hit the tank, and then crumpled to the ground. And he's an old man and I really just like my back hurt watching it, but also like dumb ass on you, dude.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:15:36
It was full, uh, Toby McGuire from, uh, spider-Man two, when he loses his powers and eats shit off of the, uh, the roof into that alley, just bam, bam.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:15:47
We queue to the next morning, uh, when Jesse
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:15:49
just wanna say, how funny would it have been if he just. Tank floor, he lands on top of the broken glass and then it's just credits. And that's how Walter White dies.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:06
Wouldn't have been fucking crazy if he had died right there. And then the rest of the episode was flashback and we just didn't know.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:14
Hmm. Are you saying the rest of breaking the last two and a half seasons of Breaking Bad is a uh, uh, Jacob's Ladder scenario?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:21
Yes, exactly.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:22
Okay.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:23
Um, We cut to the next morning. Jesse arrives to find. Walt has pressurized the lab because of a contamination. Walt is upset and Jesse is confused. So it's like every other episode we watched of this show.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:38
Yeah. one, one little bit of foreshadowing, as Jesse arrives, he notices a cigarette butt in the ashtray with lipstick on
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:46
Mm-hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:48
um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:49
That's called foreshadowing.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:16:52
also, uh, I don't know if you, uh, know this jair. I did a little bit of, Google, uh, searching while I was watching the episode.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:00
Which
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:01
The average
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:01
able to do.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:02
yeah. The average housely lives 15 to to 30 days. Now, I don't know what this housefly would be subsisting on. Uh, you know, there's not like, Meth fly coming this sun, summer to sci-fi.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:21
I would watch Jeff Goldblum play that fly. He's, he's got the most experience. He's the obvious choice.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:28
but, uh, I was wondering like at what point if you're Walt, do you just be like, I'm gonna take a nap and this thing will be dead. Um, but if it's gonna be 15 to 30 days, okay. Let's kill the, kill the fly. oh, so Walt is trying to tell Jesse, like, we've gotta contaminate and like refuses to say we have a fly in the lab.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:56
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:17:57
Walt has like in zero seconds gone full Ahab.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:03
Oh, for sure.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:04
Uh, and it's just like you're not just. Being like, you're not just being crazy, you're being willfully obtuse.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:14
Yeah,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:15
you just have to say, Jesse, there's a fly in here. We've got to kill it. Now. It's less of an issue than, just his weird unhinged ranting. Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:28
Well, he doesn't respect Jesse. He never did. Maybe, maybe at some point. But this is just more of that. Jesse's would not take a fly seriously. So I have to use the word contaminant.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:41
it also at this point, I started wondering, is Walt just looking for excuses not to be cooking?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:50
Hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:18:51
Hey, we can't cook until I figure out this math irregularity. you know, hey, I can't cook until I've killed this fly. Oh, no. Now I can't cook until I've done X or Y or Z. It really feels like. He is looking for any excuse to not be making meth. At least that's how I read it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:12
Yeah, I mean he does seem real set that. This fly could actually ruin a batch of meth. I, at the scale that they're cooking, do not see how that is possible.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:24
No, and everything's sealed.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:26
Yeah. It's just, it does feel like something else is going on.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:33
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:34
Um, but Walt is also the guy that buries himself in work when something else is going on. So it's
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:42
Uh, at this point we also find out that Walt and Jesse are 50 50 partners.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:19:46
Yes, this is after, this would've been after the 3 million to cook for three months
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:01
Yes. Before they kill Gail.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:04
before they kill Gail, before Jesse goes down to Mexico.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:09
Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:10
Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:11
Uh, and here we get a. A really nice moment for Jesse. The, the fly lands on Walt's face and Walt's like, Jesse, you gotta get it. And Jesse's like, oh, I'm going to get it. And just clobbers Walt in the face.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:37
Walt does confirm the fly corpse is just a raisin.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:42
yes. Uh, which, why is there a raisin in there?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:45
Well, we know what the fly will subsist off of.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:47
oh. Yeah. Somebody, somebody brought in, uh, some, uh, go, uh, is Gorp Region regional.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:56
I have no idea what corp is Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:20:58
Uh, trail mix.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:00
Okay. You know what trail mix is?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:03
Okay.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:04
Is go a brand of trail mix.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:06
No, it's just a, that is how, trail mix was to, was referred to me growing up.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:12
Oh nah. I don't know if that's regional so much as you growing up in the boons.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:21
Uh, also at this point, I thought of the, the, the, uh, not euphemism, uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:30
Metaphor.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:32
the, just the, the line. You catch more flies with honey. It's just like, why don't you put out some honey? Like do something to trap the thing. Why are you going after it with, with your homemade fly swat?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:43
The fact that they don't turn off all of the lights and then put a very bright lamp in the center of the room or something
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:50
Yeah. like, they are not good. They're not good fly hunters.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:21:54
no. Uh, Jesse tries to get Walt to calm down by, uh, trying to tell him to get some fresh air. He responds by, locking Jesse out of the lab. Jesse. Starts screaming out El Axo.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:11
Yes,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:11
Ben, do you know what the Spanish word for ax is?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:16
I'm going to, I don't, I'm gonna take a guess.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:19
go for it. Hacha like hatch. It makes sense.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:24
Oh, okay.

Do you know what El Axo is in Spanish?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:30
No.

00:22:32
He's asking this like a question too. He's like El Axo. He wants to know where it is. El Axo translates to the year.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:22:50
So they're just like, oh, no. Another time traveler came into our laundromat, I did, I did appreciate Jesse finds his way to a maintenance room where he finds himself a a little hammer, a big pry bar, and then a sledgehammer. And I did like just the, oh, as I work my way across this bench, I get bigger tools.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:14
I did appreciate that. Uh, he shuts the power off to stop. Watt's Madness.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:20
Now how did he do that? With a sledgehammer? I don't know.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:26
Jesse goes shopping and they hang a ton of fly strips all over the lab, and he puts some sleeping pills in Walt's coffee.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:34
Yeah,

00:23:35

but I did appreciate we get to see science coffee again.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:42
Yes. Jesse fills the air with some noise about possums waiting for Walt to pass out. Uh, but his story about trying to care less and move on with things in your life. Walt thinks he's just talking about Walt's cancer and completely misses the point.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:23:58
Yes. Also, Jair. Do you know what the difference is between a possum and an O possum?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:06
No.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:07
Different animals. Uh, this is part of, uh, part of, Jesse's thing is he's talking about, there was an o possum underneath his aunt's house.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:16
Mm-hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:17
and he was like, man, but I thought they were just possums. But now their o possums is, possums are from Australia, O possums are from, north and South America.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:26
Okay. Good to know.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:28
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:30
Uh, so I was scared by an O possum as a child.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:34
Yes. Unless you were in Australia,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:36
No, I was in my backyard.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:39
uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:39
Have I ever told you that story?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:41
I don't know. Go ahead.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:24:43
Okay, so we had a o possum that was living under my family's deck. I am 11, I'll guess maybe 12. Um, and it had made its way outside and was, we had an apple tree in our backyard and so it was eating some crab apples in my dad's all like, oh, it's finally out from under the deck. I'm gonna get that thing goes, grabs a handgun. Uh, Puts in some low power 22 rounds so that this just sounds like a pop gun goes out back while it's eating. Apples shoots it like five times, right? Just pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. It's like, oh, that thing's dead right? Hey, son, go grab a shovel. So I'm like, okay, go grab a shovel. Gonna put this dead O possum in the trash. Well, guess what? Wasn't dead?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:25:43
The A possum.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:25:44
The A possum wasn't dead and it, when I got the shovel underneath it, it looked up at me screeched with its claws out, and then ran under the deck where it died like a week later. Uh, we had to pull up the deck boards to get to it. It was a whole thing. Uh, but that was one of the scariest thing that's ever happened to me.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:08
I believe it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:10
I am just young enough to be all like, oh my God, and forget that I'm literally holding a six foot hunk of wood with a metal end on it.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:19
Yeah, you can finish this thing.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:20
Like, like if I had the wherewithal, I could have just like bonked it real good. Uh,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:27
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:28
I like as far as like the capability to defend myself in that situation, I was fine. but it just was so jarring. It just scared the shit outta me. Yeah,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:38
I'm also
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:39
that's my o possum story. It's always been my possum story up until this point.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:26:44
well, I'm, uh, I'm glad, I'm glad to have, uh, uh, Educated you, the more you know, uh, also this does feel very on brand for Chuck, that he shot something five times, didn't confirm it was dead, and said, Hey, somebody else take care of this.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:05
He was usually pretty good about making sure it was dead.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:09
I don't
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:09
a handful of other foundational childhood memories related to that. Trauma anyways, uh, the conversation turns into, uh, Walt, saying that he's lived too long.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:25
Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:26
He's allowed his family's memories of him to have turned sour if he had, uh, only died before he got caught. He admits saying the quiet part out loud. Uh, he recalls the night Kristin Ritter died.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:41
Mm-hmm.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:42
Uh, he tells Jesse that that night he went to a bar and randomly had a conversation with Q. He just didn't know it at the time.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:27:56
Yes. Which man? I was immediately tempted to be like, Ooh, ooh, Cranston and Delancey. I wanna go back and watch that episode. Uh, but I
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:09
would be a lot heavier if we had seen those episodes. I'll get there eventually.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:16
But yeah, this is actually like something I have thought about, the issue of the pace of dying being the harder part than the actual, like dying.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:29
Yeah. This is something we both have some personal experience with, uh, me with my father, you with your father-in-law, um, that we could totally talk about on POD and be a giant bummer. I.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:41
Yeah, well this whole episode is a giant bummer, so
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:28:44
true, you know, um, it's, it's a very different circumstance in, in our case, it's both, you know, the slow passing of someone to disease and illness. Um, in this case, it's the, uh, slow dissent into criminal madness,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:04
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:05
uh, with, with a sprinkle of cancer.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:08
Yeah. With, uh, some, some, uh, meth sprinkles.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:13
I don't think, I don't think, uh, the cancer's what ruins that this there,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:20
no.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:21
the, the slow, the withering of someone and having to live with that and witness it and it's terrible and I can't, I can only speak about it casually so that I don't, uh, one, talk about it for hours and also, Openly weep on podcast. 'cause I don't think anyone signed up for this episode expecting that.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:42
No.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:42
but at the same time, it's definitely like his criminal and his, uh, it's, what's the word I'm looking for? His, his hubris.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:29:57
It does, he does have some, some real hubris going on. 'cause it's like one of the things he goes on is like, there has to be some combination of words that could make her understand. It's like, or you just did the wrong thing, buddy. Like he never seconds guess, never second guesses himself. It's her fault for not understanding.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:17
Yeah. It's never, I did the wrong thing. It's, I got caught. He doesn't regret becoming a drug kingpin. He regret. He regrets getting caught.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:26
Well it's
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:26
Which is what makes him a shitty person.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:29
It, it's not even, uh, we're getting, getting caught. It's the, uh, alright, we're gonna use your eye statements. I'm sorry. You are mad. And it's like, no, I'm sorry. Me becoming a, a meth kingpin of the Southeast, and doing this for us Skylar, is something you don't appreciate. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:30:50
Right. Ugh. Such a fucking asshole. Anyways, he tells Jesse, you know, it just goes on about the conversation he had with John Delancey. You know, like, what are the chances of that? I tried to calculate the chances of that, you know, and well, yes, they're going to be very small if you do any kind of actual math on that.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:17
But it's the, the chances of two random people in Albuquerque meeting. It's not impossible.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:25
Yes. Yeah. It's not like he, well, no. As an air traffic controller, he would be local, actually. So it's not even like he was flying around. Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:34
no, But, uh, the conversation kind of gets Jesse on the, alright, I see the fly, it's up there on the light. I'm going to, uh, engage in a, uh, world of OSHA violations and put the ladder up on top of these, tool boxes and climb up there to whack it.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:31:53
This is so dumb. This is the dumbest thing I've seen Jesse do and that's saying something. This is the dumbest thing I've seen anyone in a workplace do, and I, along with someone else, once climbed in the back of a truck with loose steel piled 12 feet high to find other pieces of loose steel in the pile of loose steel. This is dumb. This is Dumber than Cliving. The 12 foot racks in the back of a Walmart, Walmart style store. This is, this is exponentially dumb. Those carts are on Wheels. Wheels.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:34
yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:35
I'm so mad.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:37
Yes. I did, I did think it was interesting. Walt says he's sorry about Jane,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:42
A bunch. Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:44
but he never says what he did.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:32:47
Nope, he does not understand what Walt is trying to apologize for because Walt is a shitty communicator and men would literally rather become drug lords over New Mexico than go to therapy.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:33:00
Hey, Hey, look, if those are the two options, I, I'm just saying.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:33:13
Walt finally gives into slumber. says it's time to cook. As Jesse gets the fly and Walt falls asleep. Jesse finishes the cook. While he rests. Walt tells Jesse if he took the missing half pound, he can't protect them. Jesse is offended. Walt goes home and there is a fly waiting for him. I wanted to run through that last bit, Ben, because I've been waiting. I've been waiting for. Three weeks since we recorded our last episode. Y You won the points
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

00:34:00
I do not know, we have not discussed, I put together a spreadsheet with options and you didn't look at it or fill in your half that I left for you. I am,

00:34:14

benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:18
up that spreadsheet.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:19
didn't fill it in. I didn't look today.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:22
it's okay. Uh, I added a whole bunch of stuff to it. Uh,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:26

00:34:27
I also, I. I had forgotten that, uh, you wanted me to, to rate everything. Um,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:34
fine. You, you can do that later. It was just kind of a like, get an idea of where we stand on stuff.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:34:40
yes. So, uh, we, we want to jump right over the absolute insanity of having your smoke detector right above your bed, so you're getting that red light blinking at you all night
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:05
It is very dumb.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:07
Oh yeah. Um, you wanna know what our next show's going to be?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:12
I need to know what our next shoe is going to be, Ben.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:16
Well, uh, I've made, uh, I've made some jokes to some mutual friends who have also demanded to know,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:24
Well, I feel like they don't get to find out before me,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:28
No. That's why I said Clarissa explains it all. Um, that said, if we are, if we are sticking to, uh, serialized stuff, we could do the secret world of Alex Mack.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:38
which I've also seen.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:40
but do you remember any of it?
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:42
I remember bits and pieces.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:35:45
Okay. Uh, so we, we did have a little bit of a conversation off pod about what do we want to do next? And we came to a, a agreement that, well, there are some really, really good other like crime shows. We don't want to go from crime to crime.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:05
No.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:06
So we wouldn't want to go to an Oz or a Boardwalk Empire or a, uh, I don't know, a Ray Donovan. Uh, anything that is more shady, people doing shady stuff and getting in over their heads and shooting somebody. so. I was thinking about what, what's a TV show that I've, I've always really wanted to watch that, like, now this would be a great opportunity to do so, but you know, is gonna change it up for us. And basically I just decided, you know what I really want to see,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:49
Hmm.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:50
I wanna see somebody get roundhouse kicked in the face. Jair,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:55
Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:56
into the Badlands.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:36:57
I have never heard of this show.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:02
You had it on the list.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:05
Uh, I, that means it was just something that doesn't mean that I know anything about it because the list was the list on the receipt that we had. So it means you brought it up before
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:18
be fair, you added some stuff to this. I did not know there was a Highlander, the animated series.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:23
was on our OG document list. Uh, I don't know that there is a Highlander, the Rich Animated series. I didn't look it up. Um, it was just on the list.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:36
It might've just been Highlander, the series.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:40
Um, it might have just been
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:41
no, there is Highlander, the animated series. It's got 40 episodes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:47
Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:47
I,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:48
Huh?
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:49
we can watch it on Peacock.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:52
Huh.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:53
Okay, well
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:37:56
Okay, well, we're watching into the battles. Um, I know nothing about this show, Ben. Tell me about the show. I'm guessing people getting roundhouse kicked.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:38:06
Yes. So, uh, it is an a m C TV show, so we are staying with, uh, with that. Uh, so, uh, I'll give you the, the first line, uh, in a post apocalyptic world, nearly fi approximately 500 years in the future, or is left civilization in ruins. Some elements of technology such as electricity and ground vehicles have survived the apocalypse, but society now shuns firearms leading to a reliance on melee, weaponry, and crossbows. In a territory known as the Bad Lands, encompassing several states between the Rocky Mountains and Mississippi River, a futile society has developed to fill the power vacuum left by the war Barons control land and monopolies over commodities like opium and fuel trading amongst themselves To maintain the peace, each baron is served by a massive workforce of slaves called slaves called cogs, as well as a prostitute class called dolls. A Baron maintains power through an army of young men and women called Clippers. Highly trained and loyal warriors, clippers are forbidden from marrying and having children, lest their loyalties be divided. Each clipper force is captioned, captained by a regent, and it keeps going on, but it's a retro future. Hong Kong action TV show, like kinda like a, a kung fu.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:32
I love me some kung fu.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:34
Uh, sorry. It has been described as a high octane sci-fi martial arts series.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:40
Okay, well that sounds fun.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:43
that I've always wanted to watch, and this is a great excuse.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:49
Alright, how many, so it looks like there's only 32 episodes of this show in three seasons.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:39:56
Yep. So three 10 episode seasons. That was also another thing where it's like, I'm not picking, uh, something with like 400 episodes, that's going to be a slog. It's like we're gonna be in and out of this in five
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:09
we can adjust how many episodes we want to see here. So for Breaking Bad, we tried to set it up mathematically to do two episodes a season. Uh, do we
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:20
I think that's the same kind of goal.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:22
same kind of goal. Okay.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:23
Yeah.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:24
Yeah, I would say if something's got more than 10 seasons, that may be seven seasons. We drop it down from to a season to one seven's that magic syndication number. So that's, that might be a good one to work with.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:38
Yeah,
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:39
We'll call it as we see 'em though. Alright, well I will, uh, do the math on that later. Uh, because our three D four will not work for that.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:49
no.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:40:50
probably end up doing. I actually might have it figured out already on the other sheet. If we're going for five, we could do one D 10. two D four two D four is, uh, five average. That could work.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:12
I mean, we, We just have to know it, uh, after the end of the next episode
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:17
Yeah.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:18
'cause we're gonna watch the pilot.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:19
Yeah, we gotta watch that pilot first, and we're gonna do that in two weeks. We're taking a little break,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

00:41:27
as I run away to Las Vegas, so
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:38
Yeah.

xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:48

xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:41:51
the musical. Yeah. Yeah. You really need to explain that because it does not sound good. Just leaving your mouth without context.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:42:01
I just, I just go to, uh, to orphanages and be like, oh, hey. No, no. Nope. I'm, I'm, this is going back to the play. Yes.
xhafer-1m4l6g397__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:
00:42:11
Alright,
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

we'll be back on September 5th with our first episode of Into the Battle Lands.
benjamin_d_curley-cn6ni1mif__raw-audio_xhafer-benjamin-d-curley_2023-aug-01-0205am_who_are you:

00:42:26
