00:00:01
Speaker 1: All right, yes, yes, happy Saturday. Here.
00:00:04
Speaker 2: We are welcome in Just Dubs two hour edition here on the Sports Leader eight to eight KNB are the number four one five, eight oh eight, five six two seven. We're with you until noon. We come to you each and every Saturday. The NBA season is winding down. The Warriors, with my goodness count them up five games to go here, but they're gonna come pretty rapid fire beginning tomorrow. As we're joined of course as we always are, by Kyle harr by Raf Karral, Greg Silver is gonna stop by the show at about ten fifty to join the conversation and again you on the Golden State Lumber and Showroom text line at four one five, eight oh eight, five six two seven will allow for folks to file into the YouTube chat here on this fine Saturday morning as we get you again closer to Giants baseball, which is coming up way later in the in the evening six oh five. First pitch tonight for the Giants and the Mets as they go in Game three of their four game series. But talking some dubs here for the next couple of hours, Kyle, good to be with you, man, Steph Curry let's just start there on track to return. As we've been talking about here for a while, Tomorrow night shams with the big breaking news. But again it's been trending I think toward Tomorrow night and the Warriors facing the Rockets. Here as the homestand continues, Steph set to play for the first time since January thirtieth, after missing a third of the season twenty seven games in a row. Man, it's gonna feel like a pretty big night, as depleted as the Warriors have been in a lot of these games here through February and March and now on here in the early part of April. But good to be with you, my man, Kyle, I don't hear you. You flip your mic on?
00:01:52
Speaker 1: Brother? Is your mic on?
00:01:56
Speaker 3: Well?
00:01:58
Speaker 1: What's going on, Kyle? Let's try that. What's going on? Brother?
00:02:01
Speaker 4: Oh?
00:02:02
Speaker 2: Do we still not have We still don't have Kyle? All right, Well, we'll try to connect with Kyle. Eight O eight GA m BR four one five eight eight five six two seven. Will work through the technical difficulties raft at the controls there in the in the Daily City studios, best in the business, so he'll he'll get everything worked out with Kyle.
00:02:22
Speaker 1: As he connects to the show here.
00:02:23
Speaker 2: But we want to get started just by by talking about Steph obviously and his return as he sets to is set to come back against the Rockets, after making it through the latest of the scrimmages here, the five on five and the lead up and the set back, and you know something that I think, originally, interestingly enough, did not project to be a lengthy absence. I don't think anybody would have believed back on January the thirtieth that Steph was going to be out for twenty seven consecutive games, or or the entirety of February and the All Star break and the back end of February and all of March, plus the first couple of games of April, if you recall, I mean going back, it felt like this was going to be a thing that, you know, initially kind of day to day, and then very quickly, given the Warriors state of affairs already having lost Jimmy Butler what ten days earlier to the acl tair that was going to keep him out for the season, you knew that the Warriors were probably going to slow play the injury. But then it very quickly became something that was going to keep him out until after the All Star break. But if you remember, there was a belief going back and this was almost two months ago now as we sit here on February or on April the fourth, back on February the eleventh, where the Warriors played San Antonio and they lost that game, and they were going into the break, and the belief was that Steph was progressing to a point where he was going to be able to scrimmage during the All Star break and then come back straight up out of the All Star Break when the Warriors took on the Celtics, and then it just didn't happen. And then it just didn't happen, and you know that's when you're like, whoa, Like, what's going on? The twists and turns here, and the fact that he was at that point gonna need a lengthy period of time off. There was the ups and downs of the road trip that he went on in the middle of March, and you know whether or not he would be able to check all the boxes from Rick Celabrini, the mystery workout that was supposed to happen between the Atlanta game and Dallas game. Going back to a couple of weeks ago that didn't happen and was the thing entirely in jeopardy, but Steph able to make it through, continue.
00:04:43
Speaker 1: To heal up.
00:04:44
Speaker 2: We've debated as we bring Kyle harr back in whether it's even the smart move for the Warriors to bother bringing Stephen Curry back here given the state of where their season sits, in the ten seed in the Western Conference, playing race and gonna have to win a couple of road games just to get a crack at a playoff series, and is he is that even worth it? But independent of all those conversations, Kyle, Steph on track to come back tomorrow, We've we've got you connected again here, what's going on?
00:05:16
Speaker 1: Brother?
00:05:17
Speaker 4: All right, let's try this again. But yeah, there we go, take there, there we go. But yeah, of course, of course good to have stuff back. And and I've I've been adamant to or or advocated to get stuff back because you do want to see him with this scroup. But if he told me, especially after the Moses Moody terrifying injury, that you want to hold Steph out for the rest of the season because you don't want something like an injury like that it's a jeopard Jeopardize twenty twenty seven. I would have had no arguments against it, but my concern and I voiced my concern on the past couple of shows. It's just the opponent that he's coming up against. But I think they wouldn't bring him back against the Rockets if he wasn't one hundred percent. So I trust the Warriors, I trust Rick Celebrini, and I trust Steph Curry that he's one hundred percent well.
00:06:25
Speaker 1: And now the.
00:06:26
Speaker 2: Question becomes, you know, what become the keys that you're going to be looking for and watching beyond just the fact that Steph's back and that makes any game that he plays in obviously much more interesting and compelling. And you know, I think Steph now at thirty eight, is getting to the point in his career where you don't really want to be morbid about it, but you know, it kind of makes me think of some of the things we talk about when the Warriors have faced the Lakers the last couple of years and it's been Steph going up against Lebron and you sort of ask yourself, you know, how many of these games do those two have left to play head to head? Against each other, and I feel like the way this thing is setting up and we're gonna get to some of the comments here. Coming up on the show, Draymond Green sat down with with Tim Kawakami of The s F Standard and a podcast conversation, a lengthy podcast conversation that I was listening to uh here in the early morning hours getting ready to do this show, and we'll we'll play some snippets of that from t K and Draymond coming up on tomorrow's dubs OT. But uh, you know, Draymond really uh, you know, acknowledged, you know, just the state of his own contract, and you know, they got into the conversation, as we've talked about nightly on dubs Ot and here on Saturdays on Just Dubs, the fact that you know, Steve Kerr is a coaching free agent, will here won't he return? I think it's trending toward him returning, and I've kind of gone back and forth on the will he or won't he meet her at different points of this season. I do think it is trending more toward Steve coming back, and has been reported as such within the last few days. You know that it's it appears as if it's more likely that Steve will come back for one more year, and again it's kind of setting up this this last Dance type of a scenario, but it's going to be STEP's final year of his contract. Draymond addressed his preferred area of what he would like to have done, which we'll get to as far as his twenty seven million dollar player option that he has, and just the conversations that are going to have to go on between player and player agent and owner and GM and head coach and all those things to try to sort through. But that in addition to some of the bigger names, the Kawhi Lebron names, as you know, could the Warriors try to land somebody of that ilk in the offseason.
00:08:57
Speaker 1: It's all setting up, and I think in some.
00:08:59
Speaker 2: Ways Kyle Steph's return here for this final week plus the play in plus if they can pull off a couple of wins on the road here in the play in tournament, whatever the playoff series would be against, say okay See or maybe San Antonio, but likely Oka See. At this point, it feels like tomorrow in many ways is kind of the beginning of the real Last Dance, Like was it twenty two, was it twenty three? You know, was it nineteen before that? They came back off of the COVID year. But in many ways, it does feel like this next calendar year that's gonna start tomorrow with Steph's return and what do they do with Jimmy and all the conversations about the roster and Steve and Kawhi and Lebron and Yannis.
00:09:49
Speaker 1: We got to get to Yannis as well.
00:09:51
Speaker 2: He's in an all out feud with the Milwaukee Bucks because he's gone full blown Max Crosby.
00:09:58
Speaker 1: I want to play, They're not letting me play. He and there needs to be an investigation.
00:10:04
Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know that I've ever other than obviously the Max Crosby situation that went down with the Raiders and Crosby at the end of the year, where it's you have a star player saying I want to play and the team's not letting me. I mean, it's it's incredible because basically they want to respect the tank at this point and not not have Giannis wind up having some kind of an injury. But I say all that to there's a bunch of big names that Warriors are going to be linked to in the offseason. They are going to project to have a draft pick that's going to be no worse than fifteenth. It could hell, if they lose and get a little lucky, be one, two, three, four, you know, eleven, twelve or potentially in that in that fifteen range. If they somewhere make the playoffs, what do they do with that? It is going to be as as dull, and there have been a lot of nights that have been kind of dull over the last two months. The next year and then whatever, you know, however long they go in the play in playoffs or whatever. For twenty twenty seven, it does feel like this thing is setting up for the true beginning. I feel like of the last dance in terms of how this year finishes, what do they do in the off season, and how does next year ultimately finish before I think the real conversations are start to happen about Steph's future with the team and whether or not, you know, he's going to be around if they continue to go for it, or whether or not he's going to be around if maybe they look to tear the thing down a little bit and try to go with more of an infusion of youth. All of that to set up the fact that you know, I know tomorrow, because this season in many ways is kind of cooked, or at least has felt that way for the last two months. I do think the beginning of next season I feel like starts tomorrow.
00:11:57
Speaker 1: And that's because ST's Steph's coming back.
00:12:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, it feels like an extension of next season, and and you want to go into twenty twenty seven with a little bit of momentum coming off of this season. For as as bad and as the season of hell we like to call it, but I mean you you talked about the off season and look, they're they're gonna have a busy offseason, and we already talked about internally all the the the lists that they have to check off h this offseason, whether it's Traymond's player option and whether whether you whether he wants to extend for for less money, whether it's bringing Melton back or per Singis back in what what' does Al Horford to do you find a replacement for for Moses Moody and all of that along with you've been linked to Lebron and Kawhi, right, So I also think the other thing that that is important to touch on about stuff coming back is I do think one it would look bad if if he was one hundred percent healthy and they sat him and they shut him down. The the other thing is, I think the guys who have played hard these last twenty seven games you're gee saying, I mean the whole team, they played hard. I think I think they deserve and and have played to deserve for stuff to come back well.
00:13:29
Speaker 2: And you know, Draymond addressed this with with Tim Kawakami a little bit, the fact that that, you know, the guys had fought so hard and that that he could feel a little bit of a slippage basically around the time two weeks ago basically where we were talking about uh and man, I think I said this last week and I'm gonna say it again that can you believe the Atlanta cominga revenge game was two weeks ago? It feels like that was two months ago. I I mean that that is like, but it was two weeks ago with Steph supposedly going to have that scrimmage in Atlanta before they flew from Atlanta to Dallas, and Draymond detailed to TK the fact that that was I think a little bit more serious of a situation than the Warriors were trying to let on as it related to Steph and checking the boxes with Rix Celbride. I mean, Draymond went as far as to tell Tim on his podcast that, you know, Rick celebrity was just like, look like his dog died in the aftermath of like one of the workouts with Steph as they were supposed to kind of ramp toward the next one that would basically clear him to come back, and and that players could feel who had been you know, anticipating the build up towards Steph's return, could feel the letdown as it felt a little bit more in jeopardy like like maybe it wasn't gonna happen. And then Draymond even shared that he had asked Steph, you know, straight up like, hey, how's you know, how's it going? And Steph kind of uh he Steph said to him, he just kind of looked at him and said, not great, not great, not great, not great in terms of uh, just kind of checking those boxes. So that even a couple of weeks ago, provided some some clarity. I thought it was interested It's great. Listen, obviously t K does an unbelievable job getting a lot of those big interviews.
00:15:26
Speaker 5: Uh.
00:15:27
Speaker 1: And so you know, certainly check it out. Like I said, we'll play some.
00:15:29
Speaker 2: Clips, uh and and attribute that you know, Tk's got to column out about the future and and and you know what, uh, you know, Traybond's future specifically, and just kind of how everything sets up, so s F standard for for all of that. As we continue the conversation here to get things rolling on this Saturday morning, AAA can be are four one, five eight oh eight, five, six, two seven the number to jump in and join the conversation. Dubs dubs ot coming up tomorrow and Tuesday and Thursday. I would imagine just kind of you know, obviously everyone wants to see Stephan Porzingis play together. I mean Draymond going back to you know, he really did echo what you had just said about giving the guys who have worked their ass off to keep this thing afloat and compete on a night in, night out basis with them so depleted that you know, Steph almost views it, and he specifically viewed it as like a reward for these guys that have played their asses off to get an opportunity here to play with Steph to get an opportunity to maybe as difficult as it's going to be to win the two play in games on the road, but get an opportunity to try to make, you know, some sense of positivity toward an ending of this season, and just the reward to have something still, even though it's just a playoff spot against Oklahoma City, to have something to compete for is important, and you know, they got into the discussion about and again this is another one that we've had. It's not apples to apples, but the notion of you know, the twenty nineteen twenty twenty COVID shortened season being so miserable and the Warriors ending up with the worst record in the league at fifteen and fifty, and then that next year where Steph came back and was awesome, but Clay hadn't still returned, and then you know, they end up losing in the play in. Right, they're kind of in a similar plight as they were in twenty twenty one, but a lot of the young players got opportunities to grow and some of those guys, Jordan Poole more specifically, became somebody that was a major, major contributor to a title contending team once they added Klay Thompson back into the mix, once they went out and added you know to some other areas of the roster, that that helped put him over the top. And nobody would have believed at the end of two twenty one or even at the beginning of the next season in twenty one twenty two, that the Warriors could have possibly been as good as they wound up being in you know, winning the NBA Championship. And again, work, that was five years ago. So let's let's full stop. I mean, that was five years ago. It's not Steph at thirty three. That's Steph at thirty eight, it's Draymond at what thirty six and not thirty one. You know, Clay, before he really had his decline, was still for that season, I thought, you know, as close to in the in the the back half that he played, I thought he was still pretty close to the Clay for the you know, for that year that that, you know, the decline really started the next year, uh and really was in the you know, really was more profound in the final year that he was with the Warriors going back to two years ago. But Clay basically had a one and a half year run there or a one year run from the middle of twenty two till maybe the middle twenty three where he was pretty darn close to what he had been going back to pre you know, Achilles and acl obviously he had them both. So it's and much younger and just different situations. But I think when you factor in what we get into all the time Kyle about you know, Steph being able to come back, what do they do with porzingis who I think is trending toward a likely return to the Warriors. The decision on Jimmy can they get into this Kawhi Lebron sweepstakes?
00:19:37
Speaker 1: Is that even real?
00:19:38
Speaker 2: Or is that something that's just kind of being floated by people within the Warriors organization as an attempt to kind of drum up some semblance of hope and buzz and and you know, a big name that people can discuss because it feels like we've done this and the Warriors have legitimately tried to be in on a lot of these big names and did eventually get Butler. You know, we do forget sometimes that they did do it, albeit, as we always say, because Jimmy had tanked, is his value completely to the point where the price had come down. But you look at you know, if they're gonna get Lebron, it's gonna be because Lebron's kind of fed up with his time with the Lakers now and Luca being down changes the calculus on on everything. I mean, they were trending toward a team that maybe could make a push toward a conference finals and a run where they could maybe put a scare into San Antonio or Oklahoma City in the playoffs. And now who knows with Luca you know, out indefinitely and potentially going to be pushing to come back for a first round series far too soon or not able to come back and play in a first round series at all. And does that immediately make the Lakers vulnerable regardless of who they play. When you look at the the NBA standings at this point, the Lakers had climbed all the way up to three. I mean, you know what, they got b by Minnesota last year as the three, with the Timberwolves being the six. And interestingly enough it can still change Kyle, but those two teams would face each other right now, the Lakers in Minnesota as the three, six matchup, But I think Minnesota would be extremely comfortable going up against them without Luka Dancic. But does that lead toward a more unceremonious ending to Lebron and the Lakers. What I'm getting at is you're talking about Kawai's contract potentially getting voided or the Clippers being forced to move him because of the shady shenanigans that were going on with the contract and the fake company and all of the money they were trying to siphon off to him in addition to his actual contract and circumventing the salary cap and all those things.
00:21:49
Speaker 1: So you're only getting those guys because.
00:21:51
Speaker 2: Of some unique circumstances, just as you only got Jimmy because of some unique circumstances. But I think the setup to all of this is I think the Warriors are hoping to be able to try to put together some level of a Summer of of twenty one into twenty one to twenty two type of an offseason that can that can set the table for.
00:22:15
Speaker 1: That that last dance of UH of next year, oh no doubt.
00:22:20
Speaker 4: And and then and then you add a some guys who have kind of leveled up their game with Steph being out definitely den Gee Santos and and despite the roller coaster ride that is Brandon Pajenski, I mean, he's played so good last what six games here?
00:22:41
Speaker 1: Uh So, so.
00:22:42
Speaker 4: You you add a leveled up Gee a Pods who is playing at a better level, and I think I think, look, we all want to see Steph play with Porzingis, but I think it's just as important to see Steph play guys who have been forced to to have this high usage and and to play so many more minutes that that they're accustomed to playing. So I would also like to see how how Steph plays plays with those guys as well.
00:23:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. And again, so what are you looking for from from Steph? I mean, how what's your concern level about, you know, the Warriors even going this route, even though it's something that that obviously Steph wanted uh to be able to to come back and to be able to to finish the season. What's the best you know, how much of a minute's restriction is he going to be on? I think that's going to be interesting as we head toward tomorrow, is it is it going to be twenty five to thirty minutes here over the course of the week. Can it get built up to a point where he can be close to a full go. I think that's gonna be a question as well. And you know, just how they manage it in terms of I think a big part of as much as you said, Kyle, you know you're a little uncomfortable with bringing him back against the Rockets, I think the Warriors are just thinking, Hey, the way everything lined up on the calendar, you bring him back on a Sunday, you get an off day, play on Tuesday, you get an off day play on Thursday, and then you kind.
00:24:21
Speaker 1: Of figure it out.
00:24:21
Speaker 2: You're still a week away or six days away from the play in game at that point. After he plays these first three, I think it's really these first three. I think it's the Houston game, It's the sack game in Chase, It's the Laker game on Thursday, and then and then I think it's truly you see where you're at. I would anticipate and Steve had said in his pregame press conference the other night before the Cleveland game that the Warriors are gonna limit players in that one remaining back to back with the Laker game in Sacramento game. So I think the Sacramento game could wind up, you know, looking like that could be a game where it's you know, no Pores, guess no, you know, no anybody, no Draymond, no steph you know, a lot of the young guys get that. That game coming up next Friday in Sacramento. So I think, and then what do you have left for the final game, which is against the Clippers. And you may play the Clippers and then play the Clippers again coming up in the in the playing game, because the Clippers and Blazers are are flip flopping here in terms of of their standing eight versus nine, and Portland's eight and the Clippers are nine. So you would you rather play the Clippers? Would you rather play Portland? I think you'd rather play the Clippers at this point.
00:25:35
Speaker 1: No more.
00:25:35
Speaker 2: James Harden Uh, you know, you know, Garland put it on them a little bit the last time that they played.
00:25:42
Speaker 1: But you said it.
00:25:42
Speaker 2: Kyle knows Zubotsh as well, who's hurt the Warriors in the past. And so I think as far as those first matchups go, that's got to be the one that the Warriors would probably prefer all right eight to eight camby are quick thought from Kyle Horr four one five eight, eight five six seven. We'll come back, we'll get into the chat and then Greg Silver's gonna hop on at about ten fifty, uh, and we'll talk to Greg about Steph's return. We'll get into some of the Draymond stuff as well coming up throughout the course of the show and his podcast interview with with Tim kaal Kami.
00:26:17
Speaker 1: But go ahead, go ahead, Kyle. Yeah.
00:26:19
Speaker 4: Definitely definitely different, different versions of the Warriors and and Clippers the lineup that that we kind of saw at at the regular season finale of last season.
00:26:32
Speaker 1: So so it'll be interesting to.
00:26:35
Speaker 4: See these two new versions of of each team kind of go head ted. Obviously still led by Kawhi and Steph, but but the surrounding players are are definitely different.
00:26:47
Speaker 2: Well, and the you know, the specter of this, this Kawhi Leonard you know stuff as well, kind of hangs over these matchups with the with the Warriors and the Clippers. And again the reporting from from Tim Kawakami this week that the Warriors were close to getting them at the deadline, the Clippers ultimately backed out of Golden State trying to get that done.
00:27:08
Speaker 1: I know they were.
00:27:08
Speaker 2: They were skulking around on a bunch of different stuff in an attempt to try to make something happen, but before the deadline and before ultimately trading Kabinga for Chris Stabs porzingis so eight O eight cambr four one five eight eight five six two seven to the chat next, but a quick time out again. Greg Silver coming up. He'll join us as well. But your thoughts on Stephan Curry's return and what's remaining here of the final five games plus the play in for the Warriors. It's just Dubs of JD right here on a Saturday on the Sports Leader.
00:27:50
Speaker 1: All right, welcome back, Just.
00:27:52
Speaker 2: Dubs eight ow eight camb are four one five eight oh eight five six two seven j D, Kyle Harr Raft Corral and you Golden State lumber and showroom text line. We'll get to the YouTube chat coming up here in just a moment Raft, who do we have on the line again?
00:28:07
Speaker 1: I didn't write it down.
00:28:08
Speaker 2: And I Mark in San Francisco gets his tipped off here this segment on Just Dubbs on the Sports Leader.
00:28:14
Speaker 6: Hey Mark, Hey John, how you doing.
00:28:18
Speaker 1: Doing well? What's on your mind?
00:28:21
Speaker 6: Great, Well, I think that bringing Brazingis back would be key. They got to bring him back. He's really good. He fits well. And also another thing that's gonna come up is Mike Dunleavy as a general manager, he may be in a position to rarely put this team forward next year with the right signing, so he he becomes a key player in.
00:28:41
Speaker 1: This Well, it's huge.
00:28:44
Speaker 2: In addition to I mean, what do they do with the draft pick, which we've mentioned before but not in the first segment here. I mean, there are so many different things. It's you know, can they Lebron? Can they land a Lebron or a Kawhi or a Yannis? Obviously that's kind of the pipe dream. Although some of the injury concerns with Giannis, I kind of even wonder about that as as great a player as he is, with as much as the Warriors would be, would be given up. But but even if it is, you know, bring back Porzingis. You know, what do they do with the draft pick? I mean, which could it could in theory if they lose in the play in, you know, and they get a little bit lucky move into the top four. I know, it is about a nine to ten chance that they could move into the the top four, uh if they don't obviously advance to play in the first round of the playoffs. So it's going to be a massive offseason. How they how they handle the math of it all too, which is important as a general manager in terms of what do you do with Draymond's contract? Is it is it an opt out to get him at a lesser number?
00:29:48
Speaker 4: Uh?
00:29:48
Speaker 1: You know, can you get Melton back into the fold?
00:29:51
Speaker 5: It?
00:29:51
Speaker 2: It is as complex an offseason Mark as as I think, you know, any team could could possibly have under some some any unique circumstances. Trying to make one more go of it with with with Steph Curry at the at the forefront.
00:30:07
Speaker 6: Great points, but again it's Mike dudley By who's going to be the key man in this all. Can he put it all together and get us back to the top and it's going to be his time as Joe managed to show what he can do.
00:30:21
Speaker 2: Thanks for the call, Mark, I really appreciate it. And again, how much is he allowed to do? Is the other part of it? What what can he convince Kyle Joe lacub to be willing to do we we know Joe lacomb is willing to give up a ton if it's a big enough name. But where you start to go down the pecking order a little bit, and look, I think lebron And and Kawhi would be more value plays at this stage of of their careers, and again with some special circumstances attached to why they would even be available and potentially wanting to join the Warriors. But you know, can you can can Dunleavy twist Joe arm into convincing him that if it winds up being the fifteenth pick, that it's more beneficial as a tradeable asset attached to a contract to bring a player in that can really help this team in addition to keeping Porzingis and and maybe waiting for Jimmy. So, I mean, Dudley, he's got an unenviable job, to say the least, but he's also got a job where because the Warriors are so and I'm gonna I'm gonna say this nicely collaborative, Because the Warriors are so collaborative in their in their front.
00:31:32
Speaker 1: Office, uh discussions as to.
00:31:34
Speaker 2: How they want to handle things that you know, convincing the others of what's the right thing to do, and a lot of those collaborative conversations I think is the most important thing.
00:31:47
Speaker 4: Well, I also think if this offseason winds up being a big tud and they strike out on on Lebron Kawhi and another other names that they are gonna be reportedly linked to, and and they kind of bring back a similar version of the team that we saw to to close the season this year, then then they're they're gonna be Doun Levy and and lake Up are are gonna be under under heavy criticism I think for that because that that is the one thing that you can't do.
00:32:27
Speaker 2: No, and I think everybody understands it. And again, I think the frustration from the fan base is that the Warriors are unwilling to be as aggressive as as maybe they should be. Uh and you know, especially considering that the circumstances. But I do think they I do think they legitimately try to make things happen more than more than a certain portion of the fan base believes that they actually do. I will say that, but ultimately, you know, it's it's the willingness to to include draft capital in a post Steph world that is becoming you know, much more close to the forefront in an attempt to really try to make something special out of out of next season as it sets up here to be the last dance. All right, let's get to the YouTube chat eight to eight cambr if you want to jump in and join the conversation. We'll get to some texts from the Golden State Lumber and Showroom text line here as we keep this thing rolling until noon here with just Dubs on a Saturday on these sports Leader, No Cap, It's funny, Steph curR and Draymond all say they want to leave the franchise better than they found it. Yet Steph is coming back instead of embracing the tank, so they have a shot at a good pick selfish. I don't think it's selfish. I really don't. I think I think, no Cap. I don't think Steph gives a damn about that pick. Like I don't think Steph trusts that that pick is going to be anybody that's necessary really gonna help them, like, especially if it winds up being what it has a ninety percent chance of being, which is eleven or twelve. Like I've joked to people, and I think I mentioned this on one of the Dubzot shows. But I've joked to people like, can you imagine Steph and Draymond and Kerr and and maybe some of the other veterans looking at this play in opportunity as a means to basically make that draft pick more tradeable, essentially, like, if it's fifteen, maybe you can confence Joe to get rid of it. Well, the only way it's gonna be fifteen is if you make the playoffs, and honestly, if you're because if the pick is too good, then they're maybe gonna want to keep it at the expense of maybe being able to get somebody that can help a little bit more in the short term. I understand what you're getting at cap about, you know, leaving it in a better place than they found it. I mean, I think that that's a nice thing to say, and I but I mean, good luck with that like it.
00:35:02
Speaker 1: I mean that.
00:35:03
Speaker 2: Doesn't although again, where did where did they fight? I mean, the Warriors were a laughing stock when Steph joined. I mean, the Warriors were the sack were. The Warriors were the Bay Area version of the Sacramento Kings before. I mean, they're the two They were the same franchise essentially other than you know, like one championship a million years ago, a handful of fun to watch teams through the years, and and a whole lot of sucking like let's you know, let's let's be honest, like that's that's what they were when Steph found them.
00:35:34
Speaker 1: So, you know, I think you could make a case that, you know, even I think you make a case.
00:35:40
Speaker 2: That even if Steph doesn't leave them in a great place, they're still going to be in a better place than they were because they've at least shown that they have the capability, uh with the right players in leadership, to be a consistent you know, playoff team and contender and even a place going back to Durant that that superstar players would want to come and joined. So I think from the you know this, if you want to look at it that way, I think you could make the case that's Steph uh and and and Draymond did leave it, you know, in a in a way better than they found it, even if they wind up basically being a lottery team for a few years.
00:36:15
Speaker 1: When when those guys are gone.
00:36:18
Speaker 4: Well, I I also think and and we'll we'll definitely dive into Draymond's comments with Tim Kawakami. But but his openness to extend to to a smaller contract, I think in it in a way, I mean that's thinking team first, even if it also you know, keeps Draymond on the Warriors, which is what he wants. But but I think, I mean that's that's thinking team first and and trying to to leave the franchise in a better place.
00:36:54
Speaker 2: It's also more it's also more money for Draymond in total, Like let's be honest on that. Like I agree with you, but it's also like Draymond, if you know he's got the twenty seven for next year, if Draymond does the opt out and extend, he's gonna get more than twenty seven in total right now. It obviously does help next year if you can cut that number in half. And yeah, Draymond has expressed a willing I think the other part of it, too is that Draymond wants to stay. As we've gotten into, and if he's on that twenty seven number, I think there's a fear that if things go a certain way, he could get shipped off to anywhere, you know, anywhere he doesn't want to go. And you know, he's on record here within the last week of saying he won't gonna play Milwaukee and didn't want to play for Milwaukee and all of that.
00:37:47
Speaker 1: But it is interesting. I don't know that Steph.
00:37:52
Speaker 2: I don't think that it's selfish, but but I just don't know that, Like I just don't think Steph cares about the tank. Like I don't think Steph thinks that the Warrior tanking makes them better to have a shot for next year. And I don't think Steph like I don't know, like, do you want Steph to be on this team, you know, for the next three years while they're just rebuilding with draft picks like that that you know, and maybe you're maybe you're more open to Steph saying, hey, I want to be traded somewhere, you know, because that's the way you really do it, you know, if you really wanted to do it.
00:38:26
Speaker 1: That's the way you would really do it, if you're.
00:38:28
Speaker 2: Really embracing the tank and embracing some some semblance of a of a rebuild. So yeah, I just don't think because the chances are so slim, you know, two percent chance if they don't make the play in to get the number one pick ten percent chance, which is.
00:38:46
Speaker 1: Not nothing of moving into the top four.
00:38:49
Speaker 2: But I mean to me, are you supposed to lose out for the ten percent chance as opposed to trying to trying to get in? I mean, I don't know. I think that that's just I think that's the kind of stuff the loser franchises do. I think it's bad karma also, Like I just don't, I don't, I just I don't like it. To me, if you've got Steph Curry, you come back, you try to play it out because the goal is going to be to win next year. So if the goal is to win next year, why would you ever be like, yeah, we we just want to lose every game the rest of the way and and and embrace the tank. Like I just I'm not, I'm not down with it. And I can understand why Steph and Draymond and and Steve are not down with it either, But fair point on the leaving it better than you you found it.
00:39:36
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:39:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, I also don't think that's just like who they are as as the ultimate competitor, and and I don't think the Warriors would would hold their superstar out if he's one hundred percent and and and wants to come back like like I I don't think that they would, that they would mess and with that kind of Yahnis situation. Go ahead, here here's the other part, Kyle, breaking news, right, not literally, but breaking news. The Warriors might lose in the play in any way, right right, Like bringing bringing Steph back doesn't mean they're gonna make the playoffs. Like they could lose to the Clippers, they could lose to I mean again, they're gonna have to win two games.
00:40:17
Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't.
00:40:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, not not literal, not literal, breaking news here on this on this Saturday morning. All right, let's keep it rolling in the check. Good comment though from from no Cap. It's always worth, always worth discussing.
00:40:31
Speaker 1: Steph.
00:40:32
Speaker 2: Obviously, this obviously doesn't believe in the front office's ability to hit on an immediate impact player with a draft pick in the first round. Why would he look at their recent track record? That's I mean, that's exactly my point. And to me, again it comes down to it, you're not you're not gonna intentionally not bring him back because of the chance to move up. Because to me, moving up to the top three, three or four really the top three would be the only way that you would trust the player in my opinion, that they were going to get to be able to be an impactful player, Like could you imagine like the whole Oh, they've got this guy who's now even if it's Debonsa, if it's Peterson, even if it's Boozer, Like, could you imagine the the the you know, gotta get this guy in because he's the future and and he just isn't capable of being Like the only way that works is if the dude is a star next year, like the only one, like, like an All Star next year, and you know, maybe Debonsa and Peterson can be that. You know, Boozer I think has a more complimentary game to say what the Warriors would would be looking to do. Uh, But to me, it's like, do you trust if they get the eleventh pick or the twelfth pick? Like to me, like, that's that to me, you trade it at that point because and I don't know, maybe it's easier if you have the eleventh pick to find somebody that can come in and be a role player. I just feel like the fans put too much on the draft picks ability to make an impact for next year. That that's the part that like, even if it is Debonsa, like he you know, he could help them, but it's but that the percentage of that happening is is so small that you know, I think we can have a conversation about the top three picks, but if it's eleven or twelve, to me, there's no difference than.
00:42:39
Speaker 1: If it's fifteen to twenty at that point.
00:42:42
Speaker 2: And I think if it's eleven or twelve, there would be more of an inkling to try to keep it and you know, get somebody that could potentially help. But you got to get somebody that could potentially help now, which may may mean taking a lower you know, a lower ceiling, higher floor type type of a player. And I think that's gonna piss people off if it's you know, if it winds up, if it winds up being the case, because what you don't want is another cominga where and look, Kaminga's Kaminga's personality made that worse than it was because of his belief that he was such a better player than he actually was. But like, you don't want another guy that everybody's clamoring to play a bunch of minutes because of where he was drafted. That actually can't help, Like, you're better off trading that pick for a veteran that can come in and help you. You know, try to win a bunch of games next year. A right, Let's get like two more and then we'll take a time out. We'll get to Greg Silver.
00:43:41
Speaker 4: Uh.
00:43:42
Speaker 2: Warriors' best chance moving forward with Steph will probably be to sign aging superstars like the three oh four Lakers. Good poll here, who did sign Karl Malone after he played in his entire career with the Jazz and GP who had played his entire career with Seattle and a few years with Milwaukee. Uh, when when he got traded for for Ray Allen. Combine old stars with our young guys. Yeah, I think that's the pathway forward. I think it's at this point. If I had to say what's the Warriors path, it's it's wait for Jimmy, try to add Kawhi or Lebron or Jannis. And obviously if you get Yannis, maybe Jimmy has to go in that deal to make the salaries work.
00:44:25
Speaker 3: Uh.
00:44:25
Speaker 2: And and then you know, figure out where your draft pick is going to be. Don't be beholden to trying to, you know, demand that it's in the you know, you know that eleven or twelve and and you know, get bring Porzingis back and and see what you can get out of pods and and and Gee Santos and maybe some of the other guys that have had opportunities to play a little bit more one more before we take our time out. Uh And this brown great to hear from you. And this I hope Steph comes back and plays well. I want to see him play, not going to have that many opportunities to watch him play. That goes kind of the way I started the show, like it, Yeah, you want to watch them play? Like the like have you have you watched the last twenty seven games? Like who would not want to watch Steph Curry play these last you know, even if it's three of the last five plus a playing game, because I think we're realistically taught. We're realistically talking about Steph's gonna play like four to six games, Like that's really what we're talking about. It's four to six games over the next two weeks. Get a look at him with Porzingis, see the compete. And here's the other thing, Like I do think people not that they would win, but I do think people are underestimating the Warriors' ability to Like, the Warriors could beat the Clippers in Portland, The Warriors could beat the Clippers in Phoenix. The Warriors could beat Portland in Phoenix. Like these are like, it's not like they're playing this you know, some team, And I know Portland's been a tough matchup.
00:45:52
Speaker 1: Look, they could lose to all three of them.
00:45:53
Speaker 2: Also, I'm not I'm not trying to act like it's some lock, but those teams are all flawed enough to where if Steph goes off in in two games and the other guys play relatively well, you know, and the Warriors I think are pretty well coached in these situations of elimination games, although not maybe as much in the play in as it has been in some Game sevens through the years. The Warriors can actually pull this off. They could actually and and and again. I know people are screaming like for who, for what? Like, but I think there's more of a value in that in them making the playoffs and ending the season feeling good and having Porzingis and the young guys maybe be a part of it with Steph. To me, there's more value in that pushing the front office to go all in for next year than there is and just kind of petering out and oh, we got the eleventh pick, and we petered out, and what are we gonna do? Like to me, there's more of a value in in finishing strong and kind of wiping the nasty taste did the last two and a half months out of your mouth and trying to trying to almost again use now as the starting point of the you know, the last dance season of next year.
00:47:12
Speaker 1: The next year starts tomorrow. That's that I feel like should be the mantra.
00:47:17
Speaker 2: The last dance of twenty twenty six, twenty seven starts tomorrow when Steph comes back.
00:47:24
Speaker 4: And you want them to push the front office into not thinking that once Jimmy Butler comes back from from his injury in the second half of next season, that that's kind of the acquisition that the team is going to get to push them over the top. You want that acquisition to be in the offseason to one you get Jimmy, you can make a top four seed kind of push, not a oh, let's hope again to the top six seed again and again we've we've what you want in an ideal world is Jimmy comes back and he's with Steph, and you have Porzingis now who you didn't have last year at this time, and you have one more guy that you didn't have last year at this time or at any point this year, and now you've got young guys who are farther along in their development with Gee and potentially Pajemski, although I'm fascinated to see how he looks with, you know, trying to level down his game a little bit from just having the freedom to kind of do whatever he wants. I think that's gonna be a little tricky for him potentially, But to me, it's that's what you want.
00:48:37
Speaker 2: You want Steph and Jimmy with with Porzingis who you didn't have, another guy who you didn't have, and the young players on more of an upswing. All right, we'll continue that conversation coming up here. Eight O eight camb Are four one five eight oh eight five six two seven. Greg Silver is gonna hop on next as we get into our number two. It is just Dubbs a JD right here on the Sports Leader. All Right, I remember two JD. Kyle harr Raf Corral YouTube chat is firing as we keep this thing rolling until noon. Stephen Curry coming back tomorrow Warriors and the Rockets, and we'll have dubs Ot from Harmonic Brewing in Thrive City immediately following the game late start for a Sunday seven o'clock tip, So that'll be right around nine point thirty here on the Sports Leader. Let's go out and talk to our guy Greg Silver, though, who joins us here on the UBA guest line? Is it really the only UMA guest line, Greg, if if you're an actual host on the on the station, I don't know. I felt a little weird to maybe throw that in there, but thanks, thanks for hopping on.
00:49:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's just muscle memory at this point when I say UMA guest line, and I try not to think much more about that, but no, you know, I was thinking just a couple of minutes ago, while the commercial breaks were playing and I had the ads and the music and everything. I'm stuck in traffic right now, so it was giving me these flashbacks of like when I've been dealing with all these medical supplies and insurance. I'm a Type one diabetics, so you know, I got those like routine phone calls, and I felt like I was on hold. And so now to be on the Sports Leader talking a little dubs, I'm thinking I'm in a really good mood because of it, because you know, I just compared it to that, and now we're.
00:50:29
Speaker 5: Here instead.
00:50:31
Speaker 2: Irwin Kwong and the YouTube chat. Silver's on a minutes restriction. Minutes restriction. Yeah, Silver can give us ten to fifteen. Silver's got ten to fifteen again.
00:50:47
Speaker 1: Usually now, I think we usually first twenty.
00:50:49
Speaker 3: There's a lot of backup here before the bridge, so we could probably even push it at twenty.
00:50:55
Speaker 1: All right, so a lot to get into. I mean, Steph's coming back.
00:50:59
Speaker 2: The debate in the first half of the or the first half of the show has just been more you know, we got people in the chat.
00:51:06
Speaker 1: You know, is it worth it?
00:51:08
Speaker 3: Is it not?
00:51:09
Speaker 1: You know, Steph should be embracing the tank whatever.
00:51:13
Speaker 2: I've sort of categorized it as next year starts tomorrow because the Warriors have so many different decisions to make, and you know, Steph's been out for so long, like we don't you know, ultimately, this team's gonna be capped at first round and out. Like I'm comfortable in saying that, like, that's the best this team can do this year. I do, though, believe that there's more of a value in that than just tapping out and taking your ball and going home and you know, tanking for the the off chance that you can move up in the lottery, because we've seen that isn't going to be some panacea cure ale for the Warriors. But just you know, what do you what do you think about Steph's return? Is it worth him returning? Is it you know, should it not be against the rockets? Like, just give me your thoughts on all of that, Greg, Yeah, I mean.
00:52:08
Speaker 3: Practically speaking, I get why Steph returning probably doesn't make the most sense. I know I've said to you on our show that once Moses Moody suffered that grueling knee injury, that was sort of the first time where I'm like, Okay, yeah, maybe he shouldn't come back. But the bottom line is Steph has never been one to embrace any kind of tank and he's been pretty hell thens on getting back to the court ever since he went out on January thirtieth. So while I understand the argument to be sure that it's better for the Warriors in the long run, if they sort of shut him down, they get out in the playing tournament, see what draft pick they get, and just reset over the summer. Yes, that's all true. At the same time, that's never been what Steph Curry wants to do. It's never been what he's about. And so if his decision is to get back to the court, then I'm gonna be right there and embrace it. We'll see what happens. But next year does start tomorrow. And I've actually said that next year started from the moment christophs Porzingis was on this roster, because there's been so many questions all year long, and once Jimmy Butler went down, it was like a house of cards that completely tumbled in the perspective on what this season could be and the offseason and next season completely changed because of a severe injury like that torn Aco. And so I've said christophs Porzingis coming to the Warriors has kind of been the marker of the start of next season. But we haven't seen Steph play with Porzingis, So it adds just another level to that sentiment.
00:53:35
Speaker 1: Correct, no doubt, it's talking, Yeah, go ahead, good Kyle, Greg.
00:53:40
Speaker 4: What what is your level of concern with was stuff coming back and playing against the the Rockets, you know, a team that that he got injured in the playoff series last year, and and you know, especially with with Moses Moody's and Troy, do you have any level of concern or is it just an opponent beat damned and stuff and put him back on the court.
00:54:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good question, Kyle, And again, I think it's one of those where the logic tells you probably not the best opponent to bring him back against, but the calendar lines up for it. And let's be honest, Steph probably gets more hyped up coming back against the Rockets than he would against the Kings in the middle of the week. Like he's just such a sicko in that way that he probably relishes the opportunity to go and torture Houston for the five hundredth time in his career. Even if they play physical, they played borderline dirty at times. Of course, it's a huge, huge, huge risk anytime he's gonna step on the floor for the rest of the year. So for that reason, I am concerned about it. But really, what I'm gonna take in tomorrow and be watching very closely in the first six minutes. Takes me back to the playoff game in which Jimmy Butler got injured. I thought that was a reckless play in which it happened, and he landed and had the glop bruise that kind of had him never really the same through the rest of the season and made it harder to be that number one. When Steph went out in the Minnesota series. The rest have to do a good job of getting control of the game. So if the Rockets are going to test the limits, and eme Udoka has told them in the past, like yeah, they're not gonna call it, so get physical. The refs have to have a reasonable control of this game. And so if they're going to play physical defense, which they will, I'm all for that. But anything that's kind of teetering on where it could be out of control and guys could get hurt, Steph or otherwise, that's the thing that we cannot have tomorrow.
00:55:35
Speaker 2: Well, and we're looking at it and talking to Greg Silver here on just Dubs on the Sports Leader. The Rockets all of a sudden, they've won five in a row. They were struggling, they had fallen all the way down to six. They've they've won five in a row, and now they come out here to start a road trip against the Warriors, and hey, Steph Curry's back to that point. We had a comment from our buddy Nocap in the chat earlier and I put it up Kyle, and then I lost it again. I'm gonna put it back up again. We talked about this earlier. No Cap said it's funny. Steph, Kerr and Draymond all say they want to leave the franchise better than they found it. Yet Steph is coming back instead of embracing the tank, so they have a shot at a good pick hashtag selfish.
00:56:21
Speaker 1: What do you think of that sentiment?
00:56:24
Speaker 3: I mean, I would say they've never really been in a tank mode, Like there's a difference between your two best players being out for half the season and being a team that is actively trying to lose games. They're just under talented and it's pretty clear. But no one's ever felt like your Geese Santos, your pagen Skis, your Meltons, your your posts, like all those guys have played hard all year long, but without Jimmy, and then add Steph on top of that, Dude, this is one of the least talented teams in the entire league, and it hurts pagem Ski's value in terms of productivity. It hurts Raymond's value when he's out there. So going back to my house of cards analogy, Yeah, like things happen and circumstances change. Again, getting the best draft pick possible probably is going to be the best thing that could set you up for next season. But I did hear you say this right before I came on, and that's this team might lose in the play in any way, right, So why change the philosophy with so little time left. Of course, I'm concerned about anything happening to Steph that could mess up potential plans for this offseason. That is a major, major risk. But Steph Curry is not the type of person or player, and Draymond Green and Steve Kerr it all applies to them. They don't want to sit around and just embrace a tank in the sense of like, yeah, well, you know what, we're just gonna stick around for three more years. I think that because of the Jimmy Butler acl because Jonathan Kaminga and that band aid was finally ripped off, like We can theorize about it, we can get all philosophical, but now it's kind of been forced upon them that now if you all want to come back for next year, it really is gonna be this last dance. And if Steph wants to continue playing, maybe that's here and the front office figures something out. Maybe he has to be trained and go and play competitive and meaningful basketball elsewhere. But as far as this chapter, I think it's all hinging on the spring of twenty twenty seven. We just don't know how the final scenes are gonna play out in a what timeline.
00:58:26
Speaker 2: Well, and it also comes down to you know what do you trust more, which is the Warriors of Billy Do you wanna do you want to not bring Steph back on the chance that you get a pick that you might not get, and but if you do get you're gonna have to hit on like it Like to me, it's the the old debate Greg about you know, if you're telling me they're gonna get a one through three, then then okay, then then then maybe there's some value to it. If you're telling me, you know that they wind up with what they would have a ninety percent chance of basically winding up eleventh because they are gonna finished tenth in the in the West, so they're gonna wind up eleventh if they end up not making the playoffs with the eleventh slot in the lottery, So ten percent chance to move up, ninety percent chance you just stay at eleven. So to me, if it's a debate about try to win versus the eleventh pick, I'm I'm much less inclined to give a damn about the eleventh pick because we've seen the Warriors. You know, you're not gonna get in all likelihood a difference maker at that point. And the one thing you don't want is to find yourself in a last dance season with a with a kaminga two point zero where you've got, you know, the fan base clamoring for a guy to play that really, you know, maybe can contribute on some level but can't contribute to the extent of a player that maybe you can look to move that pick for to from the outside to come in and help you. And like, to me, that's the thing that they have to avoid is this, you know, situation where they have a player on the roster that isn't you know, that's in a meaningful position on the roster, but isn't able to contribute to the short term goal.
01:00:13
Speaker 3: Totally right, If you get Aj Debonsa or Garon Peterson or Cameron Boozer and you get one of these top picks in the small amount of odds that you can get into that top four ends up going in your favor, that's still a lot to ask of. What's Aj Debonsa going to give you in a rookie season. Now, it makes you feel better about life after Steph or life after Draymond, or if Steve Kerr ends up walking away after next year, then going back to the notecap point about leaving it better than you had it, well, something like that certainly helps. But in the context of next season and the last dance terminology of it all, I mean, that's a lot to ask out of a young player, and really what they're gonna need is someone that can be a great complimentary fit, probably more so than the next superstar we're talking about. Twenty twenty six, twenty twenty.
01:01:02
Speaker 4: Seven, Greg, who who would you prioritize? And there there's a few expiring contracts and a couple guys with player options, but who out of the four of porsingis Melton, Horford and UH and Draymond. Should the Warriors prioritize and bringing back.
01:01:25
Speaker 3: Well, I know Draymond spoke with Tim Kawakami about wanting to stay and getting more money in the long term, but also not the full twenty seven million of the player option, and so I think that will be an easy one to work out as far as the less of the mainstays.
01:01:41
Speaker 5: Though.
01:01:42
Speaker 3: It's a good question, Kyle, and it's hard because I think the answer has to be Christaps porzingis in the sense that if he can give you a sustained stretch of availability like we've seen over the better part of the last couple of weeks, then he has the potential and ability to be someone who can be your second best player until Jimmy Butler comes back, and then your third best player once Jimmy does come back. I absolutely love watching d Anthony Melton, and that was one of those where the first time he came over two offseasons ago, actually felt really happy about that signing and was really excited to see it. And then we got such a small sample size, but that six games stuck with everybody to the point of like well, once he got injured, Steph Lost's backcourt mate, and then it was all floating into mediocrity until they traded for Jimmy Butler. So I loved Anthony Melton, but is he gonna have the upside and ability to carry your team like Porzingis? I would say no. And then on the Horford front, I mean, a great locker room guy. Another one of those offseason editions that's really hard not to appreciate. But by and large, you don't know if he's gonna want to stick around on a team that might not be all that competitive next year. Does he decide to retire altogether? And I love Al Horford, but if we're going to play the availability card on Porzingis, we got to be fair and accept that Horford's also going to have his own restrictions that impact him.
01:03:07
Speaker 5: Throughout the season.
01:03:09
Speaker 2: Well, And the question is can you get I think fifty fifty to fifty five games out of both of them? I think that's the you know, you almost have to plan it out. Where can you get fifty to fifty five out of Porzingis? Can you get fifty to fifty five.
01:03:24
Speaker 1: Out of Horford?
01:03:25
Speaker 2: No back to backs for either can you get fifty to fifty five out of Draymond, which I think the answer to that is yes. If you look at Draymond last the last few years, I mean, he's actually been more durable than any anybody in terms of the older guys that the Warriors have had. And basically for the back to backs, can you have two of the three in every you know what I mean? I think that's the perfect world scenario in that it's almost three guys for two spots as it relates to the you know, some of the back to backs. And again it's not maybe the ideal way you want to pencil out out your roster, and and real injuries that pop up are going to mess up the the timing in terms of the calculations to it all. But I think that's kind of how you I think the Warriors feel pretty good if they could keep Porzingis and Horford and Draymond, I think at a lesser number, I think they'd feel pretty good.
01:04:21
Speaker 1: About the big man spot.
01:04:22
Speaker 2: And then you know, maybe Quentin Post comes back as somebody that's going to be a fourteenth fifteenth man that can play you know, here and there sort of sort of as needed quickly here Greg, a couple of things, estimated eyes.
01:04:36
Speaker 1: We got a couple in the chat.
01:04:37
Speaker 2: Greg sounds like he's calling from a space station or from the Shuttle mission.
01:04:42
Speaker 1: And then what was the other one? Are we that spoiled, paper cup? Oh? Out of a yeah, out of a pay Are we that spoiled?
01:04:49
Speaker 2: I don't think you sound bad at all, but I think we're spoiled with the technology that exists now here where you can basically connect to the studio for anywhere, and everything sounds sounds really good, whether where they're on YouTube only or the audio stream only, or whether we're on camby are as well.
01:05:10
Speaker 3: I mean, look, I like to keep people on their toes and guessing about where I am, what I do on the weekends.
01:05:16
Speaker 1: And no, actually I was.
01:05:18
Speaker 3: I'm just about getting to the Bay Bridge right now. There was a whole backup with traffic, and I was on speakerphone because we had the whole instance of cops telling people where to go and where not to go. There was a car total, so I was trying not to.
01:05:33
Speaker 1: Make it quite so obvious.
01:05:34
Speaker 5: I had the phone up because.
01:05:36
Speaker 3: Getting a ticket while doing a live hit and then having to face the music on Monday. That would be a pretty tough reality.
01:05:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no question, you don't want to you don't want to have that go ahead, Kyle, Oh no, I was I was just gonna. I was just gonna jump in and and and what about.
01:05:53
Speaker 4: Uh imagine getg gang pulled over and they're like, why why are you on your phone? And you know it's so you're you're you're coming on as a guest for for for the Best the best Dubs coverage in the Bay.
01:06:07
Speaker 2: By the way, that's where Creig goes, don't you know? Yeah, don't you know who I am? I'm I'm I'm Greg Silver. He goes to the I'm Kevin Durant. You know who I am?
01:06:22
Speaker 3: Well, I mean what we were doing the hat with Dave Fleming when he and John Wood have in Scottsdale and they were trying to stort out parking and you're like, why do you John Miller just dropped it. Do you know who I am?
01:06:35
Speaker 2: I got a good chuckle out of Dave. That was pretty funny. That was a that was a pretty pretty funny moment wrapping things up here with with Greg Silver.
01:06:42
Speaker 1: Uh here on on just Dubs.
01:06:45
Speaker 2: Uh, we are going to get into the conversation that that Tim Kawakami had with with Draymond, and there was a lot of real good information and we should probably get into it a little bit on Monday, uh As, I'm going to be sitting in for for Papa again with you. But I thought, you know, we've talked about the contract thing and his open mindedness. I know he said he thinks he's got two or three more seasons left. What do you think the right number is? If the Warriors do the opt out and extend Draymond, You're you're obviously gonna get the number down for next year, but you don't if you're making twenty seven, you're gonna take less than twenty seven for next year, but you're gonna get more than twenty seven over the full deal. Otherwise there's no point in necessarily doing it. So what do you think an opt out and re sign contract looks like for Draymond Green?
01:07:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a good.
01:07:46
Speaker 3: Question, and I gotta do a little bit more diving into the specifics of the numbers. I mean, Janny Emmerman had that tool he put out in the SF Standard that I thought was really cool. So I got to play around with his Chris Stops coding method. But yeah, I mean, I would say to your point, right, it's gonna be bigger than twenty seven in the larger picture. It's just not gonna be twenty seven for this next year. So I don't know if you could get away with something like, you know, say like an eighteen to twenty million dollar a year average for two to three years, and maybe they find a way to work that out. But I'm thinking more so like two year deal in the forty eighth million dollar range and see if the Warrior's gonna work something out on that front. But it's hard to envision it being in the fifteen range average annual value or anything lower than that.
01:08:34
Speaker 2: Now, I think it's it's interesting, Gregor, will let you go? I mean, I think you can probably get look at it as you know, what would if Draymond made twenty seven next year, what would you reasonably project his number to be, you know, the two years following that?
01:08:53
Speaker 3: Right?
01:08:53
Speaker 1: Like how much more money would he get? You know?
01:08:56
Speaker 2: Is he a ten million dollar a year player after next year? Is he a fifteen million dollar a year player after next year? You know? Draymond also did say to TK that he's he's basically looking to be fair about it, and he's he's you know, wants to do what's best for everybody. And and again he didn't ask for as much as he necessarily could have asked for in the last deal. Now he got a very fair deal, but again, if he was looking to get every single penny, he probably could have gotten more than he did in the last deal. I think that's something that should be accounted for. But I sort of look at it as you know, if you think Draymond is whatever value you think Draymond is, and I think you have to look at it as a declining value after this upcoming year. So if he's a he might be a fifteen million dollar a year player the year after next, and he might be a ten million dollar player two years after. And so you add the twenty five I think at that point to the twenty seven, and then you divide by the number of years. So basically, if you know, you go twenty five plus the twenty seven, that's fifty two. You divide that by three, and then it's you know, it's it's three and seventeen. In terms of the average value, I think that seems a little high on the surface, you know, maybe maybe it winds up being more like three and three and forty eight or something, you know, something like that. But it also depends on what number the Warriors want to get him down to, because I think you would want the number to be lower for Draymond next year because you may wind up in a hard cap situation and then maybe you end up with some years at the back end where you give him raises with the percentage that it can go up to where you're you know, because you have fewer players under the cap for those following years, you can allow for him to absorb a bigger number in the in those other two years than maybe next year. But because you need every penny to go toward next year's roster that you possibly can, So they needed to get a little a little tricky with the with the math as it relates to to Draymond moving forward here, so plenty of time to dive into that, Greg, Thanks a lot, man, Really appreciate you taking a little bit of time. Enjoy the remainder of your weekend and we'll talk on Monday at ten.
01:11:18
Speaker 3: Absolutely looking forward to have you in for three days next week, and thank you to the JD and Kyle, it's a raff and rap. You might have to come back or exit the segment for that matter, with a little David Bowie space oddity or star Man or anything to just symbolize my phone connection.
01:11:36
Speaker 1: There you go.
01:11:37
Speaker 2: Well, Raft's could have worked on that. Raff will have it coming back. I might not have it going out, but Raff will have it coming back. That I think we can guarantee. Greg, take it easy, brother, absolutely, talk to my bed all right, at away, Cambre. That's Greg Silver. Appreciate him joining us here part of the Just Dubs and dubs ot family.
01:11:58
Speaker 1: We'll come back.
01:11:59
Speaker 2: We'll get into the the Draymond Green interview with Tim Kawakami, and also more from the YouTube chat as we roll through Just Dubbs two hour edition right here on the Sports Leader. All right, Raf understood the assignment Little Starman by David Bowie. An ode to Greg Silver, calling from the moon here to join Just Dubs on this Saturday morning here on the Sports Leader. We're back here eight O eight cambr four one five eight five six two seven. We're flying through these two hours here on Saturday.
01:12:58
Speaker 1: Kyle.
01:12:58
Speaker 2: Always good to chat with Greg any any big takeaway for you among the conversation. A lot of the same topics we've been kicking around for the last two months, but uh, you know, some new wrinkles to it. Before we get into the Draymond interview with with Tim Kawakami.
01:13:14
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, always always good to have that kind of third perspective on on his thoughts on on stuff playing and and yeah, he has a similar concern level that that I do against a team that yeah, plays very physical and and and borderline dirty and and there there is an injury history with with stuff playing playing the Rockets.
01:13:37
Speaker 2: Uh.
01:13:37
Speaker 4: And and then yeah, some some good things on who the the Warriors should prioritize on on bringing back and and his his thoughts on all those players that either have expiring contracts or or player options next season.
01:13:53
Speaker 2: But before we get to the Draymond interview, let's get a couple of chats here. Uh, and I'm gonna I'm gonna start with one. I'm gonna start with no cap, no cap. So cynical.
01:14:03
Speaker 1: Man. I love you, brother, but it's so cynical.
01:14:07
Speaker 2: Another thing I've noticed every time Green is up for an extension or they think the Warriors could possibly move him. They start writing articles to paint him in a good light, TK interviews him, et cetera.
01:14:20
Speaker 1: I get that again.
01:14:21
Speaker 2: I get it as the cynic, but I do think Draymond I'm gonna I always keep it a buck here on just duves and dubs ot. I do think there's a benefit to having Draymond Green on the team next year as a as a at a lesser number, And I think that the lesser number benefits the team. I think the lesser number benefits the team in terms of roster building number one, but also benefits the team in terms of a better understanding of you know, what Draymond's number will be to allow for that to happen, but also to account for him having a lesser role than a twenty seven million dollar a year player. Now, look, do you have to pay him more? Maybe on the back end, like and I'm I'm just gonna say it bluntly, and people can disagree. Who cares if you have to pay Draymond fifteen million dollars or seventeen million dollars in two thousand and twenty eight, or you know, or two thousand and twenty nine, Like that is not going to impact anything, and would be an incredibly easily tradable contract. You know, even if he was an injured player, you could know at that point that wasn't playing at all, you could trade him somewhere like he at that point, he wouldn't even have to be the Draymond Green that's you know, coming up on you know, a tenth potential All Defensive team selection, which would put him in some in some pretty elite company. So I understand the cynicism, but I also think, you know, in the Porzingis era, I think Draymond is kind of refound himself here over the last month in terms of areas in which he can be impactful in different ways. And you know, maybe it's not guarding the bigs at the level that that you know, he's had to in the past. It's fewer small ball lineups. And look, I know people have complained, you know, for years about too much small ball, too much Draymond at center, you know, and the Warriors by necessity have needed to do that. But with the emergence of Horford and Porzingis, two bigs that can actually play with Draymond, and two bigs who can actually who are actually good enough to play like everybody get a big, get a big, get a big, Well, you can't get a big, that's some stiff with no skill that can't play. Just to get Draymond off of the five spot and move him into the four spot, well, the Warriors now have that, so or at least project to have it if they can hang on to Horford and hang on to porzingis for for for next year. So to me, it's more year to year, and I'm okay paying the interest on Draymond for twenty seven, twenty eight and twenty eight twenty nine to get the purchase that you need and want at a lesser number, because him at a lesser number allows you to potentially, you know, keep Porzingis more effortlessly. It allows you to maybe have a shot at Melton. It allows you to look to go out more efficiently and try to get into the Lebron sweepstakes. And really the only area it doesn't help you is if you're looking to go include Draymond in a deal for a big fish. But again, I don't think the Warriors necessarily believe that that's that that move, other than potentially Yannis is necessarily going to be out there. But they do reserve the right if it was gonna be honest to move Jimmy, and I feel like it seems to me, And I know they didn't do it at the deadline, Kyle and weren't gonna do it at the deadline, and it was reported that you know, Draymond was gonna be in the deal obviously and not Jimmy. I think if I think, I feel like Giannis is the one player now, not saying it's gonna happen or it's even got a shred of of of you know, the ability for it to realistically happen, but I feel like Giannis is almost the one the only player they would trade Jimmy for right now, Oh.
01:18:16
Speaker 1: No, no doubt.
01:18:17
Speaker 4: And and I was also thinking, I mean, even if that draft pick does land in the top four, that's like the only player that they would trade that that draft pick for. But going back to UH to Draymond, I think, I mean, it's also beneficial to him one because it's a less tradeable contract, and we've talked about his you don't want to be traded right right and and and and we've talked about guys that have similar contracts that you know you would have to include Draymond Green and to trade for like uh Trey Murphy and Michael Porter Junior. And then that would be almost as simple as Traymon and maybe a young player plus a couple first round. But now you wouldn't be able to do that anymore. So I think yes, one. I think it's just it is beneficial, and it's why it makes sense because it's beneficial to both the Warriors and Troymon.
01:19:15
Speaker 2: All right, let's sneak in a call here coming up a couple of quick ones. Though Fozzy in the chat last Dance Warriors edition will be legendary. Again, I think, well, it might be legendary. It might be legendary.
01:19:28
Speaker 1: I mean, I mean again, we keep it a buck. It might be legendary.
01:19:32
Speaker 2: It might be a lot of what we've seen the last twenty seven games for a lengthy stretch. At some point, you know, maybe depending upon injuries and the likes, the Warriors do have to protect themselves. I feel like against that tingus pingus gimme Bron over Kawhi from the YouTube chat. I think Lebron, I think Kawhi is the better player, but I think either could could help. And again, if Lebron wanted to come. I wouldn't wouldn't turn Lebron down a Lakers season now done with Lucas hamstring injury. I think that does lead to you know that it was sort of the harmony was back as it related to the Lakers.
01:20:10
Speaker 1: You know, maybe, oh, could Lebron actually maybe stay?
01:20:13
Speaker 2: You know. The other notion is like, let's say Lebron leaves. I think a lot of people believe within the league that if Kawhi gets forced out of his deal with the Clippers that basically he would want to sign with the Lakers if Lebron leaves the Lakers, like just stay in LA. And it's funny, I was, can you imagine the if the Warriors get Kawhi? Can you imagine the all of the and no I'm not saying you know, fake fake tree company or whatever the heck it was, but fake tree planting company or but could you imagine the deal the agreements that the Warriors would have to do with with Kawhi, like uh, fly up from San Diego for games like private jet to games like I got already picture Steve next year five point fifteen games at seven five to fifteen press conference and I could picture Steve Kurr. Yeah, Kawhi guys qui as a game time decision because the FAA hasn't cleared his PJA landing, you know yet, and so he's still in the air flying up from San Diego for the game. So we'll we'll see if we can get him a car. We're trying to get him a car to where he can get up here to to Chase to be ready to go by seven to ten. Like I could see, like Kawhi, like you know, flies up for some practices, you know, a nine am flight to get to to get to San Francisco for the eleven o'clock practice and then three o'clock flight back to San Diego.
01:21:48
Speaker 1: On the days where there aren't where there aren't games, I would.
01:21:52
Speaker 2: Imagine there would have to be a lot of you know, can can participate in you know, can can opt out of one out of every three repractices.
01:22:02
Speaker 1: I mean just that kind of stuff.
01:22:04
Speaker 4: Uh.
01:22:04
Speaker 1: But again you'd I think you'd gladly do it.
01:22:06
Speaker 2: But I think the notion is, why wouldn't there be another team that would be willing to give Kawhi, you know, thirty million dollars? Maybe not maybe not full max. But if the Warriors max is like fifteen with the non tax payer mid level, like you know, somebody other teams could easily do twenty five or thirty or or maybe even more that that had not a lot of teams that have the cap space, but enough to where I think, you know, would Kawi value the the ability to stay in California above maybe going to one of those other teams. I mean, I think that's that's something that would that would also have to be uh factored in.
01:22:48
Speaker 1: Uh.
01:22:48
Speaker 2: But yeah, are you gonna be uh you on board with the uh Kawhi flies up for for games and and back and forth to San Diego, You're gonna be able to cover that cost uh for you know the it's like you know, the the uber expense to get to the studio or whatever, the gas money. Can you can you pay for the private jet? Like can I come up from SD.
01:23:10
Speaker 1: Put it on lake UM's card? No, it it would.
01:23:13
Speaker 4: It would be pretty funny for for whatever reason, if there is a delay and and and he misses uh tip off.
01:23:19
Speaker 2: But but like comes in after the end of the first It's like the old Spreewell story. I've told you I've told that. You remember the Spreewell story, right, I've told you the Spreewell story where he like he's driving there the year they played in San Jose and Spreewell's driving down and and all of a sudden, Spreewell kind of zones out in the car and goes and he sees the signs at say Los Angeles.
01:23:42
Speaker 1: He's like on one O one going south to San Jose.
01:23:45
Speaker 2: Oh, I gotta get back, uh and drives back to the Shark tank, gets himself into uniform.
01:23:52
Speaker 1: The game starts, and he just walks right.
01:23:55
Speaker 2: To the scores table and checks himself in without even talking to the coaches.
01:24:00
Speaker 1: That is a that is I mean legend. That is legend. Like imagine just imagine that, Like who would be the.
01:24:09
Speaker 2: Guy that would pull that off in today's I feel like Jimmy could actually do that.
01:24:13
Speaker 1: I feel like Jimmy would be somebody that would do that.
01:24:16
Speaker 2: Like Jimmy's just late, not you know it, just walks to the table and it's like, uh, yeah, gee, you're out.
01:24:23
Speaker 1: I'm in.
01:24:27
Speaker 4: Jimmy style. I feel like I feel like alter ego Jimmy that I could see it.
01:24:33
Speaker 2: Hey, the greatest thing is Rick Adelman, who was coaching the the the Warriors at the time, looked at his lead assistant and did you tell him he could go in? And the assistant was like, no, he just like he just checked himself in, uh, checked himself into the game. So yeah, that that would be those would be the Kawhi rules. I think if the Warriors were were going to potentially sign them. All right, let's get Vic Vic Collins from the Netherlands.
01:25:00
Speaker 1: Is that right here? On just dubs on the Sports Leader. What's going on, Vic?
01:25:07
Speaker 5: What's up, guys? Yeah, I'm calling it from the Netherlands. I live over here and I was kind of curious about I'm obviously outside looking in. It's getting harder and harder to find podcasts and and and shows that are kind of level headed talking about the Warriors, and it's it kind of drives me crazy. I mean, I appreciate you guys for keeping it real. I mean, you'll you'll call him out when they make mistakes. But we're not out here pretending like forty seven playoff games in the last five seasons is some kind of Oh my god, they've really done poorly by the fan base or something. But I'm looking at the flagship, the Golden Days bot and all that stuff. Is that just online or is that like that at the arena too, where you got these hordes of fans just asking for her to be shipped off and train stuff and oh man, come in, he we got to bring him back in his twelve points per game over five years.
01:26:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting.
01:26:02
Speaker 2: I think the fans at Chase are are a little more level headed. I think the fans at Chase are definitely pro steph But I I think and and Draymond and the guys that have the guys that have been here. I will say though that the Kumingo was pretty pretty beloved in in arena, like I think, you know, but I think that was more just people rooting for him to to succeed and and maybe thinking that he was getting a little a little too much of an unfair shake. But nothing nothing caustic really. I just think it was more like hoping for his sake that he could be productive enough to where he could actually be a part of of of the team and and help him and and maybe grow into being the player that that that he believes he's got the ability to be, which you know, maybe he winds up doing again. He's still young enough to where an adjustment here or there. He can he can obviously still get to it. It was never gonna happen here given the way everything went. But I think I think Warrior fans are more level headed.
01:26:59
Speaker 1: Among the people that are that are going to the games.
01:27:02
Speaker 2: But yeah, it's it's it's crazy, man, It's crazy some of the stuff that that that you see, Uh, and you got to keep it real. I mean, there's there's this team has had missteps and curves, not perfect, and you know, they are old and and look they're they're reaping the unfortunate. Uh, you know, aspects of being an older team that you can get, you know, a season completely taken from you by injury, Like that's the that's the gamble that they made with the roster that they built. So uh, you know, is it a fail for this year? I mean yeah, it in a lot of ways, it is. But you know, if you weren't, if you weren't saying you weren't in on the way they were going about it in October, then you can't really go back and revise history. Now if that makes sense.
01:27:44
Speaker 5: Vic, that makes total sense I mean, But I mean the flip side for me is that they don't really have a whole lot of bad contracts beyond I mean, even if you call the Jimmy Butler and the Dre and the staff contracts, bad contracts are all up after this upcoming season. So what's the big I mean a song. They've got a bunch of Devors and Chapman contracts with how the hell are we going to get through this thing? But I don't really understand like the pessive is in long term and then in the comity thing, I felling he got more of a runway and going stay than he's ever going to get in Atlanta in terms of he didn't even get to close for them. He doesn't play overtime. No, they don't give him any meaningful minutes. I mean, what what are people waiting for with that kid? I mean, is he going to go to Sacramento and become next Chris Webbers?
01:28:26
Speaker 2: That one?
01:28:26
Speaker 4: People?
01:28:26
Speaker 5: I don't really I don't see it anymore.
01:28:29
Speaker 2: No, I don't either, And yet it's interesting they were giving him. They know he went to Atlanta and had some good games, But as I've noted on this show and on the Dubs O T Show. He was basically doing all the things that that Kerr wanted him to do. With Atlanta, it was like, Okay, I'll do it for you if you tell me I have to do it. I wasn't going to do it there. And he had some success, and it was against Washington and I think Portland and Portland was shorthanded. Look, he's had some good games. We've seen him have those similar games with the Warriors. As time went on at Atlanta gave him a little more runway to kind of be to take some some of the shots he wanted to take, and he played pretty terribly to the point where, yeah, they're they're still giving him the eighteen to twenty two minutes a game, but you're right, he's not starting, he's not closing. He's not starting him when Jalen Johnson's out anymore. And I do think, you know, as far as Kaminga goes VIC, I think he probably is gonna wind up getting traded to Sacramento because I think they're the one team in the league that has people in their front office that that really believe in him as as a future star. I think even that's funny because the Kings are obviously in a great spot to get a top pick and they should be building their They should be patient enough to build their you know, build their next generation of their team around the guy that they draft if they wind up with one of those top three picks. And I could see them bringing Kaminga in and basically anointing him as like the one two with whoever they pick, and it and it's stunting in some way a de Bonsa or A or a Peterson's growth because they've they almost over bill a guy like Kaminga, you know, to be something that that he's not. So I think they should even stay away from him. But I think Atlanta swooped in and Vic, thanks for the call, man, I appreciate it. We'll wrap up that conversation because we do need to get another little break here before the top of the hour. I think it Lanta swooped in because they saw an opportunity to rebuild his value to a point that the Warriors had lost it and to where they can they can flip them. Uh that they can flip them. Uh eyes can multitask better than cominga. Is that that's estimated in the Yeah, in the chat. All right, let's uh, let's take the time out now since we had a couple of calls here. We'll get into the Draymond stuff in a few more chats. Is that Draymond spoke to Tim Kawakami. I got a bunch of bullet points we can run through. We'll do it rapid fire on the other side as we take you up until noon right here on these Sports Final segment. Man, these shows have been flying, Kyle. I mean, I mean the last couple of weeks. We've had the two hour editions. We've got another two hour edition coming up next week, and man, there's gonna be a lot of games here Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. We got just Dubbs for you a week from today right in this time slot. And Steph Curry of course coming back on track to come back tomorrow. The Warriors close out the season in La or in Inglewood up to no Good on the Sunday week from tomorrow.
01:31:54
Speaker 1: So we are fast and furious here Kyle, to the finish. But what a show.
01:31:58
Speaker 2: It's been a pleasure to have you with me all season long. Here again, and we're gonna finish this thing strong. We'll see if the Warriors how far they can take it, and we'll be with you of course in the off season as well. Last off season was kind of a dud, kind of slow, everybody waiting for kaminga. I don't think this offseason is going to be like last off season. So we're going to be doing a lot more stream only shows and podcasts and different things throughout the course of the off season when when news breaks, so really looking forward to it is, Uh, next season starts tomorrow for the Dubs. I think next season started today for just Dubs and dubs ot.
01:32:37
Speaker 1: That's right, that's right.
01:32:38
Speaker 4: And and I actually want to bring up this chat because I think I think it's good because there it is going to be a busy offseason and and the draft could be and we did a draft show this offseason, but they only had two second round picks, so so it's kind of like well like like, yeah, we're talking about Alex toohey being being selected, right, but there there should be more to talk about this offseason. And and yeah, well we'll definitely do a draft special because that I mean that that can wind up being well, it could wind up being the eleventh or twelfth pick, but but it could also.
01:33:16
Speaker 1: Be a top four pick, and and that would be that would be quite a show.
01:33:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I think that's we will definitely if it's if it's top four, we'll be there. If it's eleven, will be there. I mean, we're gonna be there regardless. But yeah, yeah, I mean Draft night is also potentially a big trade night. It is the week before free agency and everything starts. So yeah, we will be all over that on the air obviously if the Giants are not playing. If the Giants are, player will be on YouTube and on the on the stream as well both nights of the draft. Again, the draft now a two night event, with the first round one night, in the second round coming up the next night.
01:33:54
Speaker 1: All right, let's get quickly here.
01:33:56
Speaker 2: I want to get to a couple of texts, but we only have about five six minutes here. The big takeaways from the Draymond interview with Tim Kawakami. We're gonna play a bunch of the the the clips. Will play a few clips from it tomorrow on on dubbs OT after the Warriors take on the Rockets in the in the Steph Curry return game, but he said Steph looked pretty good. Uh said that, And we talked early about Draymond acknowledging the fact that the team was kind of down at the notion that he didn't call it a setback, but Steph, you know, not maybe being as optimistic about his returns. As recent as two weeks ago, in between the Atlanta and the Dallas game, he pointed out the fact that roles are obviously going to change, uh for everybody with Steph back, they won't play the same style that they have been because Steph is back, and he's kind of interested to see how that shakes out. He thinks Stephan Porzingis is gonna be fine because Porzingis, if you run him in the pick and roll, he can be a pick and pop guy. He can be a guy who you know, exploits the mismatches, right. He can get into that little short post area around the free throw line, uh, and and kind of go to work and hit jumpers on smaller players, so he can either pick and pop or or or pick and and and get the ball to him again in that that high post or short post area to where he can kind of go to work. But I think he was hinting at Kyle that Pajemski and maybe gee and and and other guys who've had a little bit more run are gonna, you know, potentially have to go about getting theirs a little bit differently than than they had been. And I also think, uh, you know, it could help some guys, like the prospect of of a d Anthony Melton. Uh So yeah, he he he thought Porzingis was just to match up the Nightmare there. He thinks they have a shot. I don't agree with this part. He thinks they have a shot in a playoff series. Uh, if they can get to the playoff series. Almost he he almost thought getting through the two games was in some ways more difficult and then given themselves a legitimate shot in a series because they've been through the series thing so much, uh and kind of know how to navigate it. Uh.
01:36:09
Speaker 1: But yeah, I think that's that's a little irrational optimism. But what are you gonna do.
01:36:14
Speaker 2: You gotta you gotta believe it, uh and try to speak it into into existence. He did talk about the best path, and I think the number one quote which Tim Kala Kombi wrote about in the SF Standard, uh, that that the ideal in an ideal world, the best path forward for him would be to decline his option and extend. But of course he's going to have to have those conversations with all parties and figure out what's what's best for everyone. But that's something that's been I think pretty apparent here Kyle for the last for the last couple months, that that the opt out and extend is the best oove for I think, assuming the Warriors don't want to trade him and use his contract to get somebody else, I think the best move is to lower that lower that cap number.
01:36:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, and and to Levias has kind of shut down any sort of trade rumors.
01:37:05
Speaker 1: What what what Traymon?
01:37:07
Speaker 4: I mean, Draymon has has acknowledged that yeah, oh yeah, if I do get traded for for Giannis, I mean it's not like I'm getting traded for a bag of peanuts. But uh so so so some all time, all time Traymond quotes and and we'll definitely uh play those clips some of the best clips from from that interview with Tim Kawakami tomorrow.
01:37:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's coming up tomorrow. Let's do a couple of chats here, and I did want to.
01:37:31
Speaker 2: Get to a couple of text messages as well, because we had a few texts in the Golden State lumbern Sure Room text line, but.
01:37:36
Speaker 1: Let's let's go rapid fire.
01:37:37
Speaker 2: Give me the best, like yeah, I'll give me the best, like three to five to kind of close things out, be's knees. If you don't want to see Steph play basketball Sunday, how can you.
01:37:47
Speaker 1: Call yourself a Warriors fan? Man?
01:37:48
Speaker 2: I agree with that. That's what that is well said. That is better said than I think I could have. I mean, the only risk, truly is you just can't have something happen to him, you know, to to where it. You know that the knee thing can come back in terms of the runners knee, because then you just shut him down and he'll be good to go in October. But the one thing that you can't have happen is some kind of catastrophic you know, Clay or Jimmy kind of an injury. You definitely don't want to see that. But aside from that, I still think of the benefit if he wants to come back and play, you come back and you play him. Douglas Mike's this organization does not have the ability to be creative or outside the box.
01:38:27
Speaker 1: So I'm preparing for DeMar DeRozan to be our big move. I don't think they want Demarta Rosen.
01:38:31
Speaker 2: I don't think they think Demarta Rosen fits isolation player, mid range player, you know, plays smaller than he actually is. He kind of you think DeRozan's like a three four, but he truly is more like a two in terms of his size. He's a terrible defender. I actually don't think they would. They would view DeRozan as somebody like, what are you gonna offer him the mid level? You're not gonna offer DeRozan the mid level, maybe the taxpayer mid level, but they want to try to get the non taxpayer mid level freed up. So I don't see de Rosan as a fit eb here. I want to see Sunday's game. Everybody else is fast forwarding to twenty twenty seven. Twenty twenty seven starts tomorrow. I'm fusing them together, all right, Let's get a couple of more two more Greg Silver, bro. You guys invited Silver on the show. What a weird choice. Definitely, what's how we roll? That's how we roll, Kyle, Greg Silver from the Moon, By the way, that's exactly right, Greg Silver from the moon and then our final one.
01:39:30
Speaker 1: Let hashtag let the Warriors finish the season on their terms. Totally and completely agree with that. All right.
01:39:37
Speaker 2: A couple of text here, Raft told me I can go over a little bit because we're not we're not handing it off to anybody. We don't have giants pregame until three, So Raff just making sure I have your blessing to go a minute or two over to Let's said, all right, all good, Raf again, Raft's the boss.
01:39:53
Speaker 1: Uh six six nine?
01:39:55
Speaker 2: Would you've taken Sabonis from sack for Kaminga instead of porzingis absolutely not.
01:40:00
Speaker 1: Uh.
01:40:01
Speaker 2: Sabonis is on a terrible contract. He's been injured this year and he's got he's got time remaining on that contract. I wanna I want to look at the King's contracts real quick. Sibonis is making forty two point three this year, Kyle forty five point four next year, and forty eight point six and twenty seven to twenty eight. Hell the bleep, no on Sibonis four point five. I think this is funny. You want to talk next superstar? How about Daniel Sussak. We gotta put him in the freaking lineup. Two days in a row. They gotta put him in the lineup two days in a row anyway, so we appreciate that. And then four oh eight, correct me if I'm wrong, but Pods and Steph don't appear to match up well the way they should. I think Pods has played pretty well when he's played with with Steph, although ideally, again ideally, I think Pods is more of a third guard and not a primary ball handler. And then the sixth, five zero to wrap it up, isn't this draft class good enough where we could draft a player who could help immediately? Yes, short answer is yes, but help immediately. Like the definition of help immediately, I think is like help immediately as a role player. Yes, at maybe eleven or fifteen or or you know, twelve, where in that range, help immediately, Yes, if you. But I think when people think help immediately, they think can be a star immediately, and like elevate the ceiling to a significant amount immediately, And that to me is reserved for I think Debonza, like I think even Boozer in his first year is not going to be a guy that that is going to be a star, Like I think he's going to be a very good player. I think he is the third best player, But to me, Peterson and Debonsa are the only two that have a potential to be a star right from the jump. But here's the thing, and this is just reality, and we'll end it on this. Even a Peterson into de Bonsa, they got, they're still coming here and playing with Steph at least at the beginning of their careers. And so that, as we've seen with other players, can change the calculus as to you know, can they fit in to be a meaningful role player or a turbocharged role player immediately?
01:42:21
Speaker 1: Even with those guys, it's somewhat of a question.
01:42:25
Speaker 2: Although as I've said Kyle, I think if you get a top three pick, where I draw the line in the sand, If you get a top three pick, you keep the pick. If you don't get a top three pick, if you end up eleven, twelve, fifteen, you trade the pick, no doubt, no doubt.
01:42:43
Speaker 4: And I think I think the question again with getting the top three pick is we've talked about they are a player away from being a player away, and we mentioned well maybe Porzingis is one of those players, and and and maybe maybe that that top three pick anden being being the other player.
01:43:02
Speaker 2: But then but then you're you're kind of asking a lot for a rookie. You're asking a lot, and there'd be a lot of pressure. And we've seen the amount of pressure that this fan base puts on young players and then in turn puts on the coaching staff, which has actually done a better job than they've been given credit for in developing a lot of those guys. All right, that's gonna do it a little little uh overtime litt just dubs ot audition here into the end of the twelve o'clock hours, you listen to camby R one O four five FM and six eighty AM San Francisco, the sports Leader Cumulus Media station.
01:43:34
Speaker 1: Uh, that's gonna do it for us. H.
01:43:37
Speaker 2: Keep make sure you stick around, Bill Aski's gonna have Giants pregame coming up at about three o'clock, and then the Giants and the Mets playing Game three of their four game set tonight at at six oh five. UH, keep it right here for dubz ot On the Sports Leader.
01:44:03
Speaker 1: We'll talk to you tomorrow. A n b R Sports Leader
01:44:18
Speaker 5: M hm.
Giants Baseball tonight, Giants baseball tomorrow, and then of course, the best Dubs coverage in the Bay for Steph Curry's return tomorrow right around nine point thirty from Harmonic in Thrive City. UH, keep it right here for dubz ot On the Sports Leader.
01:44:03
Speaker 1: We'll talk to you tomorrow. A n b R Sports Leader
01:44:18
Speaker 5: M hm.
