ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Conflict is something we all experience, but few of us are taught how to navigate it well. Whether in our families, churches, workplaces, or communities, conflict can feel uncomfortable, threatening, and even destructive. But what if conflict isn't something to fear? What if it can become an opportunity for growth, healing, and deeper connection?
In this episode, Josh Mutter, Lead Pastor of Westheights Community Church, and Nathan Toews, Peace Education Coordinator for MCC U.S., explore a Jesus-centered approach to conflict and peacemaking. Drawing from years of pastoral leadership, peace education, and international experience in conflict transformation, they discuss why conflict is an inevitable part of human relationships and how our instinctive responses—whether fighting, avoiding, blaming, or withdrawing—often prevent true resolution.
Together, they unpack practical practices for engaging conflict with curiosity instead of fear, listening instead of defending, and seeking understanding rather than simply winning an argument. The conversation highlights how healthy conflict can deepen relationships, strengthen communities, and become a powerful part of spiritual formation.
