ABOUT THIS EPISODE
He goes from “tingly toes” at 4 a.m. to a wheelchair in hours, then hears a doctor explain he may be facing Guillain-Barre syndrome and a fast-moving paralysis that can climb to the heart and lungs. That is the moment our guest, John Petrelli, has to decide what kind of mind he is going to bring into the ICU when his body is no longer available as his identity.
We talk through John’s full arc, starting with the mistake he made at 18 that landed him in a jail cell waiting to find out if he would be charged with manslaughter, and how shame, anger, dyslexia, and a humiliating classroom moment shaped his choices. From there, he explains the deliberate rebuild: leaving his environment, becoming a fitness coach, and eventually training at a high level while learning that service and problem solving unlock opportunity.
Then we go deep on his Guillain-Barre syndrome recovery story and the layered resilience tools he leans on alongside medical treatment like IVIG: music to stay out of a dark place, prayer, breathwork, visualization, and nutrition support with help from his wife, a functional nutritionist. We also unpack what “Built From Failure” really means, how he turns adversity into books and keynote speaking, and why gratitude is not fluff, it is a practice that can carry you through rehab one small win at a time.
If you want a real conversation about mindset, resilience, failure, and healing, listen through and share it with someone who needs hope today. Subscribe, leave a review, and tell us what part of John’s story hit you hardest.

00:00:01.280 --> 00:00:02.479
Welcome back, listeners.
00:00:02.560 --> 00:00:05.679
I'm Robin Black, and this is It's All About Healing Podcast.
00:00:05.759 --> 00:00:07.040
We have a special guest, Mr.
00:00:07.200 --> 00:00:08.400
John Petrelli.
00:00:08.560 --> 00:00:14.560
He is a motivational speaker, a two-time best-selling author, and a performance coach as well.
00:00:14.720 --> 00:00:31.440
And I definitely want to speak today about how he overcame G with GBS that left him completely paralyzed, and how he just transformed his personal journey, his personal journey into a powerful message as well.
00:00:31.679 --> 00:00:33.520
So, John, how are you today?
00:00:33.759 --> 00:00:34.320
I'm great.
00:00:34.399 --> 00:00:35.119
Thank you, Robin.
00:00:35.280 --> 00:00:36.399
Great to connect with you here.
00:00:36.479 --> 00:00:41.679
I'm super excited to share with you and learn about you and see how we can help people.
00:00:42.240 --> 00:00:43.119
I love that.
00:00:43.200 --> 00:00:50.560
So tell us a little bit about this journey and how this journey began of you just becoming a motivational speaker.
00:00:50.960 --> 00:00:51.200
Sure.
00:00:51.280 --> 00:00:52.799
We'll have to go way back.
00:00:52.960 --> 00:01:06.799
I hope you have some time because in my teen years, I had a bunch of challenges to the point where I was arrested at 18 and I was sitting in a jail cell waiting to see if I'd be charged with manslaughter.
00:01:07.120 --> 00:01:13.120
I, yeah, I had made a split second decision that affected the rest of my life.
00:01:13.280 --> 00:01:18.719
And I got in a fight, and the person that I hit ended up falling and they hit their head on the curb.
00:01:18.879 --> 00:01:21.519
And so our life can change in a split second.
00:01:21.680 --> 00:01:30.959
And I feel it's so important because today's generation of kids, we have to just assume, I tell my boys, that everything and anything you do is going to be video recorded.
00:01:31.120 --> 00:01:32.799
It's going to be put up on social media.
00:01:32.959 --> 00:01:35.680
We have to be very mindful of the actions we take.
00:01:36.000 --> 00:01:41.040
And at that point, that really changed my life where I knew I had to change my peer group.
00:01:41.120 --> 00:01:42.560
I had to change my future.
00:01:42.719 --> 00:01:50.079
And I was blessed to have some mentors step in and they saw some light in me that I didn't even see at that point.
00:01:50.239 --> 00:01:53.760
I thought that I was a failure, that I didn't have a future.
00:01:53.920 --> 00:01:58.319
And I had one professor really in general, in particular, Mr.
00:01:58.480 --> 00:02:03.599
Tom Lanahan, he was like, you know, you can change your future if you're willing to put in some work.
00:02:03.840 --> 00:02:11.520
So when we talk about motivational speaking, my passion is to really help guide our youth.
00:02:11.680 --> 00:02:17.439
And I have to go back to my youth to tell them my stories to let them know we can screw up, we can make mistakes.
00:02:17.599 --> 00:02:21.199
It doesn't have one moment doesn't have to define your life.
00:02:21.599 --> 00:02:26.639
And so when we start with the path of motivational speaking, it goes all the way back to that.
00:02:26.960 --> 00:02:27.520
Right.
00:02:27.840 --> 00:02:29.039
Oh my goodness.
00:02:29.280 --> 00:02:32.879
So what and you were 18, you said when this was 18 years old.
00:02:33.039 --> 00:02:37.120
I was just out of high school and I was just getting ready to go into college.
00:02:37.360 --> 00:02:43.439
And it, I wish I could tell you that it was transformational what happened, but it wasn't instantaneous.
00:02:43.599 --> 00:02:52.400
And it was a process for me to start making changes to the point where at 20 years old, I had gone through the court system.
00:02:52.479 --> 00:02:55.039
Thank God the person that I got in a fight with lived.
00:02:58.240 --> 00:03:05.120
And I decided that I wasn't strong enough mentally to avoid the temptation of the peer pressure.
00:03:05.280 --> 00:03:06.800
I'm not blaming anybody.
00:03:06.960 --> 00:03:09.919
It was my mentality that wasn't able to do it.
00:03:10.080 --> 00:03:13.599
But I had that realization and I moved out of my neighborhood.
00:03:13.680 --> 00:03:19.039
I moved out of my environment across the whole country from New York to California.
00:03:19.360 --> 00:03:24.240
And I was blessed to have a friend of mine that lived out there that allowed me to sleep on his floor.
00:03:24.560 --> 00:03:26.879
And so I moved to a new environment.
00:03:26.960 --> 00:03:31.599
I slept on the floors eating cans of tuna fish and ramen.
00:03:31.759 --> 00:03:32.000
Yeah.
00:03:32.319 --> 00:03:35.520
Just had a shot at potentially having a new future.
00:03:35.919 --> 00:03:39.520
And that's when I got into this is we're going way back, girl.
00:03:39.599 --> 00:03:41.120
I'm a lot, you can see my gray hair.
00:03:41.360 --> 00:03:43.039
I'm a lot older than you are.
00:03:43.199 --> 00:03:46.000
But I'm going back to like 1993.
00:03:46.479 --> 00:03:57.840
And that's when I said I wanted to do something that contribute and help people, as opposed to doing things like fighting and destructive behavior that would take away.
00:03:58.000 --> 00:04:03.360
And that's when I got into wanting to be a fitness trainer and a health coach, a fitness coach.
00:04:03.520 --> 00:04:15.120
And I took after six months of sleeping on the floor and working odd jobs in landscaping and digging ditches, I had saved enough money and was ready to take the test to be a trainer.
00:04:15.520 --> 00:04:18.639
And so this is back in the day where they had textbooks.
00:04:18.720 --> 00:04:27.759
I know they don't have those anymore, but like you'll be in an archaeological archaeological dig one day, and they'll dig up textbooks, and the kids will be like, What is that?
00:04:27.920 --> 00:04:32.399
And so I took the test through studying through textbooks, and I passed.
00:04:32.879 --> 00:04:39.120
And that started my journey of 33 years of becoming a fitness coach.
00:04:39.439 --> 00:04:52.319
And that ultimately evolved to after about 10 years, where I started working with celebrities and Grammy Award-winning artists and traveling around on a private jet on international tours.
00:04:52.639 --> 00:04:57.759
And I just want kids to know that once again, one moment doesn't define you.
00:04:57.920 --> 00:05:04.879
And if you put yourself in an environment where you're helping people, people will ultimately turn around and help you.
00:05:05.040 --> 00:05:09.839
And it's been 10x in my life of what I've received back from helping people.
00:05:10.560 --> 00:05:12.399
I I love hearing that.
00:05:12.639 --> 00:05:20.160
So if we can just rewind for a minute, now what caused you to hit that that that other student?
00:05:20.480 --> 00:05:22.639
Yeah, so stupidity number one.
00:05:22.879 --> 00:05:27.439
But if we go beyond that surface, I had anger issues.
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:30.639
I had a poor relationship with my father.
00:05:30.800 --> 00:05:41.920
I'm not blaming him, you know, but at that age, I didn't have the cognitive tools to deal with the anger, and I was too embarrassed in my ego to communicate what was going on.
00:05:42.240 --> 00:05:48.000
I had dyslexia, which at that time we didn't even define, and my grades were horrible.
00:05:48.240 --> 00:05:51.519
And there was a pivotal moment in school.
00:05:52.480 --> 00:06:02.959
And once again, I take responsibility for what I did because people can say things or provoke you, but really we're in control of our actions.
00:06:03.199 --> 00:06:11.279
But I had a teacher one day, junior year, my chemistry teacher, where I raised my hand in school to answer a question, and I never do that.
00:06:11.360 --> 00:06:12.879
Like I was embarrassed always.
00:06:13.040 --> 00:06:18.319
And she basically looked at me and she said, You think you know the answer to the question?
00:06:18.480 --> 00:06:22.480
The guy that got the lowest grade on our first quiz in the whole school.
00:06:22.720 --> 00:06:27.040
And she said, Why don't you put your hand down and stop wasting our time?
00:06:28.399 --> 00:06:29.839
And it crushed me.
00:06:30.160 --> 00:06:30.800
Yeah.
00:06:31.360 --> 00:06:33.519
And so, man.
00:06:35.439 --> 00:06:44.000
So I put my hand down, and at that moment in my life, I put my head down, and I I just harbored a bunch of anger.
00:06:45.439 --> 00:06:50.800
And so from from that moment, I can really trace a path of being destructive.
00:06:51.600 --> 00:07:01.199
But in reality, if I could go back now, I would tell that teacher, I said, you know what, your job is to teach us.
00:07:01.519 --> 00:07:09.680
I know I may not be the smartest kid, and I could have taken the opportunity to prove her wrong and going, you know what?
00:07:10.319 --> 00:07:17.920
I'm gonna study so hard and work so hard that you won't be able to deny the progress that I've made.
00:07:18.319 --> 00:07:23.199
But I didn't do that right at 18, and that's when I started getting into fights and everything.
00:07:23.360 --> 00:07:28.079
So if I had to trace it back, those are definitely elements that were in there.
00:07:28.399 --> 00:07:35.680
Once again, I was with a group of kids that our identity was to be like, you know, tough guy.
00:07:35.759 --> 00:07:37.360
We weren't scholastic and everything.
00:07:37.439 --> 00:07:39.040
So I had to keep up with the Joneses.
00:07:39.120 --> 00:07:44.800
If my friends were getting in fights or doing something destructive, I felt like I needed to keep up with that.
00:07:45.040 --> 00:07:46.959
And so I made a split-second decision.
00:07:47.040 --> 00:07:49.759
I saw a friend of mine about ready to get into a fight.
00:07:50.240 --> 00:07:51.279
I knew he couldn't fight.
00:07:51.360 --> 00:07:52.480
I pushed him out of the way.
00:07:52.639 --> 00:07:53.680
I hit this kid.
00:07:53.839 --> 00:07:55.519
He went down, he hit the curb.
00:07:55.680 --> 00:07:58.639
An undercover police officer saw the whole thing.
00:07:59.040 --> 00:08:07.839
And next thing you know, I was in the back of a police car and they were doing everything they could to revive that person unsuccessfully for a long time.
00:08:08.240 --> 00:08:15.920
And so, like, you know, like that, a culmination of bad choices led me to that decision.
00:08:16.240 --> 00:08:16.639
Right.
00:08:16.879 --> 00:08:17.839
Oh my goodness.
00:08:18.000 --> 00:08:32.399
And were you freshly 18 or were you yeah, no, I I had just literally graduated high school, and it was so if I go back, it was probably June of the year because we got out of school, and my birthday's in April.
00:08:32.480 --> 00:08:34.720
So I turned 18 at the end of April.
00:08:34.799 --> 00:08:36.960
So I was 18 for a couple months.
00:08:37.200 --> 00:08:38.320
Oh my goodness.
00:08:38.480 --> 00:08:45.759
And I think that kind of speaks volumes on how a lot of teens it's trying to channel different emotions, right?
00:08:45.840 --> 00:08:49.759
It's like anger sometimes is what becomes the best friend, right?
00:08:49.840 --> 00:08:54.720
That seems to be our go-to because we don't really we internalize so many thoughts.
00:08:54.879 --> 00:09:00.399
We internalize our feelings, our being embarrassed, not knowing how to answer a question.
00:09:00.480 --> 00:09:04.399
And then for a teacher to just completely humiliate you like that.
00:09:04.559 --> 00:09:06.240
I can only imagine what that felt like.
00:09:06.399 --> 00:09:13.679
But I feel a lot of our our our children are going through that, they're experiencing that, especially because we have AI.
00:09:13.759 --> 00:09:23.840
And and I know my daughter and my son both have said that they learn, they feel that they learn more sometimes from YouTube or Google or AI, even than they do the teachers.
00:09:24.000 --> 00:09:32.159
And it's like no one's it's I feel like they're kind of giving up on really teaching our students and really caring about our students.
00:09:32.320 --> 00:09:45.360
There are still some, yeah, but what would you suggest for some of our teens how they should try to kind of channel those emotions when they feel that because we internalize so much?
00:09:45.519 --> 00:09:47.039
Like, what would you suggest?
00:09:47.200 --> 00:09:48.879
Yeah, I think it's a great question.
00:09:49.039 --> 00:09:51.360
And I think it transcends age, right?
00:09:51.519 --> 00:09:57.519
Not necessarily our teens, but in adulthood too, we have a connection and we can harbor shame, right?
00:09:57.600 --> 00:10:03.360
And if we ultimately scratch down anger, you know, to from violence to anger, to it goes down to shame.
00:10:03.440 --> 00:10:09.200
And I had shame in regards to what my capabilities were or my lack of capabilities were.
00:10:09.440 --> 00:10:14.559
And and I would just say my whole thing is my whole company is built from failure.
00:10:14.639 --> 00:10:25.679
Like I feel like I'm built from failure, and failure is the best tool to teach us, but we have a negative connotation connected to the word failure and what it is, we have shame connected to that.
00:10:25.919 --> 00:10:30.879
But if we change it and flip our perception, now it's just a learning experience.
00:10:31.039 --> 00:10:36.639
And we're gonna take one or two things from whatever that is, we're gonna take it forward, learn, make some adjustments.
00:10:36.799 --> 00:10:43.039
And I tell kids, you don't have to have shame, right, in learning because if you're not failing, you're not really trying.
00:10:43.120 --> 00:10:46.000
So it's a really a success if you're failing.
00:10:46.240 --> 00:10:53.919
If we look at athletics, like I help coach baseball, the best players to ever play the game fail seven out of 10 times.
00:10:54.080 --> 00:10:57.120
They're batting 300 and they're in the hall of fame.
00:10:57.440 --> 00:11:14.240
So we have to change that perception of what failure is and take the shame away from it and go, no, I'm getting empowered from the things that I'm learning, and then surround ourselves with coaches, with teachers, with people like yourself that are gonna encourage and help people grow.
00:11:14.720 --> 00:11:15.120
Yeah.
00:11:15.440 --> 00:11:16.399
Oh my goodness.
00:11:16.559 --> 00:11:17.679
I love hearing that.
00:11:17.840 --> 00:11:19.360
I love hearing that so much.
00:11:19.600 --> 00:11:20.799
But I definitely agree.
00:11:20.960 --> 00:11:24.000
I think failure is actually what leads to success.
00:11:24.159 --> 00:11:33.679
And yeah, and then trying to help others, even like you said, children and adults, is learning the markers of success.
00:11:33.919 --> 00:11:39.200
Everybody I feel has different levels of success because everyone kind of puts these markers on success.
00:11:39.360 --> 00:11:49.200
You have to have the car, the house, the perfect marriage, and these things, you know, if you don't have your own career, they internalize that and then feel that they're less than.
00:11:49.440 --> 00:11:49.679
Right.
00:11:49.840 --> 00:11:52.399
And I feel that a lot of us internalize that.
00:11:52.559 --> 00:11:56.639
And that's where I think that just as society, that's what we're running into.
00:11:56.720 --> 00:12:05.200
And sometimes that can cause different anger issues, the the sense of wanting to get revenge on people or to steal things.
00:12:05.360 --> 00:12:14.159
You know, it's it kind of just kind of goes all over the place on trying to figure out how to handle those things and deal with those things.
00:12:14.320 --> 00:12:22.320
But I feel that our children are dealing with that and internalizing that more, and then especially the ones who are being bullied as well.
00:12:22.639 --> 00:12:23.440
Oh, tremendous.
00:12:23.519 --> 00:12:25.600
Yeah, there's so many great points you put there.
00:12:25.679 --> 00:12:33.840
And what I I would love to piggyback off of that, because I feel like the cure to that or the potential cure is gratitude.
00:12:34.159 --> 00:12:50.480
Because if we're grateful for what we have, and I've had really nothing at points in my life, and even recently when I was paralyzed, but in this world of social media, in this digital world, kids will specifically look at other other people on social media and go, man, they have all these things going on.
00:12:50.639 --> 00:12:53.600
Well, you don't know the reality of what's really behind that.
00:12:53.759 --> 00:13:00.559
And then we start losing gratitude for what we have and feel like less than like the grass is always greener on the other side.
00:13:00.879 --> 00:13:02.480
But no day is guaranteed.
00:13:02.559 --> 00:13:03.840
I've learned that the hard way.
00:13:04.000 --> 00:13:10.320
And if we wake up and you have breath in your lungs and you are here, we need to be grateful for everything we have.
00:13:10.559 --> 00:13:10.960
Right.
00:13:11.679 --> 00:13:36.639
I I, you know, it's hard sometimes when you're in the mix of it, but I can tell you that probably if you look through your life, I definitely look through my life, that if we look through the times where we had struggles, we can they you know, relish the fact that we've made it through there and go that, man, those were tough times, but I wouldn't be where I am right now if I didn't go through that process.
00:13:37.360 --> 00:13:38.240
Absolutely.
00:13:38.399 --> 00:13:46.320
And I think that's it's hard to kind of grasp onto that, that everything happens for a reason.
00:13:46.480 --> 00:13:50.320
I know people feel that that's cliche, but that's the reality of it.
00:13:50.559 --> 00:13:57.039
And kind of to go back on that, so when exactly did it happen when you became paralyzed?
00:13:57.360 --> 00:13:57.759
Great.
00:13:57.919 --> 00:13:59.039
So here I am.
00:13:59.200 --> 00:14:01.600
I've become a trainer, work really hard.
00:14:01.840 --> 00:14:05.039
I like to say I become a black belt in customer service.
00:14:05.120 --> 00:14:12.639
Like I've become a black belt in what people need and filling those gaps, even beyond what is defined in a job role.
00:14:12.799 --> 00:14:14.960
Like, how do I go beyond to help solve things?
00:14:15.039 --> 00:14:22.000
And I've really found that that's a key to unlocking my success, is really solving problems, helping people beyond.
00:14:22.240 --> 00:14:24.639
And then I have this very successful career.
00:14:24.799 --> 00:14:29.200
I have a beautiful wife, I have two kids, everything is going amazing.
00:14:29.519 --> 00:14:39.279
And then in 2021, I was dealing with some stress with a corporation that I was dealing with, and it was kind of giving me some sleepless nights.
00:14:39.519 --> 00:14:50.879
I had COVID, we're in the mix of COVID, and I wake up one morning and it's like four o'clock in the morning, my feet hit the carpet, and I immediately know that, like, okay, something's wrong.
00:14:50.960 --> 00:14:53.200
I can't feel my feet.
00:14:53.759 --> 00:14:58.480
But I hesitate for like a second, and I and I was gonna tell my wife, and I'm like, what am I gonna tell her?
00:14:58.639 --> 00:15:00.399
Like, I got tingly toes.
00:15:00.480 --> 00:15:01.600
What am I gonna tell her?
00:15:01.759 --> 00:15:11.039
So I get my clothes and I go in the other room to not wake her up and I start changing, and then I realize, okay, I can't feel anything from below my kneecaps to my feet.
00:15:11.200 --> 00:15:14.559
I can't feel my hands, and I can't even read my phone.
00:15:14.720 --> 00:15:16.559
Like my vision is so blurry.
00:15:16.720 --> 00:15:25.120
Yeah, I break down, I go back in, I wake up my wife, Cheyenne, and I tell her, you know, that this is crazy.
00:15:25.279 --> 00:15:27.440
But I'm always looking for balance in my life.
00:15:27.519 --> 00:15:28.960
But I tell her it's Saturday.
00:15:29.039 --> 00:15:30.399
I'm going to work on a Saturday.
00:15:30.559 --> 00:15:34.559
I said, Can you make an appointment for Monday to go to urgent care?
00:15:34.720 --> 00:15:36.080
I'm gonna go to work today.
00:15:36.159 --> 00:15:38.960
Yeah, and my wife, God bless her, she gives me balance.
00:15:39.120 --> 00:15:40.879
She goes, Are you out of your mind?
00:15:41.039 --> 00:15:43.600
She goes, You can't see right now, you're gonna go to work.
00:15:43.840 --> 00:15:51.120
And so she thank God, gives me balance, brings me to urgent care, which is just a couple minutes away.
00:15:51.440 --> 00:15:57.039
By the time we get to urgent care, I can't even take my insurance card out of my wallet.
00:15:57.200 --> 00:15:58.879
I can't sign my name.
00:15:59.120 --> 00:16:01.440
They bring me into the evaluation room.
00:16:01.679 --> 00:16:06.559
The doctor, you know how they give you the reflex test with the little hammer that's like a triangle?
00:16:06.799 --> 00:16:07.120
Yeah.
00:16:07.360 --> 00:16:10.480
I can't feel any of that on my elbows, on my knees.
00:16:10.720 --> 00:16:15.600
And then they go to draw some blood to take some labs, and I'm never squeamish.
00:16:15.679 --> 00:16:17.279
I've never had a problem with needles.
00:16:17.440 --> 00:16:18.960
I go unconscious.
00:16:19.200 --> 00:16:31.120
Oh me, I come to the doctor, the attending physician goes, I don't want to scare you, but you could have you're showing signs of two rare autoimmune disorders.
00:16:31.200 --> 00:16:35.840
It could be multiple sclerosis or it could be Guillaume Bray syndrome, GBS.
00:16:35.919 --> 00:16:36.960
I'd never heard of that.
00:16:37.200 --> 00:16:37.519
Right.
00:16:37.759 --> 00:16:40.559
He goes, We don't have the ability to test for it here.
00:16:40.720 --> 00:16:43.360
I need to send you to the hospital just down the road.
00:16:43.519 --> 00:16:50.399
They're gonna put you on a table, they're gonna draw fluid from your spine, they're gonna give you a spinal tap, and they're gonna test to see if you have it.
00:16:50.799 --> 00:16:52.879
It takes three minutes to get to the hospital.
00:16:52.960 --> 00:16:54.080
They're waiting for it.
00:16:54.320 --> 00:16:55.919
I can't get out of the car now.
00:16:56.080 --> 00:16:57.440
I have to be in a wheelchair.
00:16:57.519 --> 00:17:00.480
That's how quickly my body is deteriorating.
00:17:00.559 --> 00:17:03.279
I'm like a double-A battery that's just being drained.
00:17:03.600 --> 00:17:09.680
They wheel me in a wheelchair, they give me the test, they pull fluid out of my spine.
00:17:09.920 --> 00:17:15.839
That attending physician goes, Look, I believe you have Guillain Baray syndrome.
00:17:16.000 --> 00:17:19.519
It's going to take several hours for the test results to come back.
00:17:19.839 --> 00:17:32.480
Out of abundance of caution, we are going to bring you to the ICU and we are going to bring you right next to life support because the way this manifests itself is it will keep ascending up your body.
00:17:32.640 --> 00:17:36.000
It'll shut off your heart and lungs, and you'll be dead.
00:17:36.240 --> 00:17:37.279
Oh my goodness.
00:17:37.519 --> 00:17:38.799
So this happened here.
00:17:38.880 --> 00:17:40.880
I am with tingly toes at 4 a.m.
00:17:41.119 --> 00:17:44.319
And by 10 a.m., 11 a.m., I'm in a wheelchair.
00:17:44.480 --> 00:17:45.039
Yeah.
00:17:45.279 --> 00:17:48.000
And so they bring me, I have to kiss my wife goodbye.
00:17:48.160 --> 00:17:49.759
They bring me to the sixth floor.
00:17:49.920 --> 00:17:52.880
They're wheeling me down the corridor of the ICU.
00:17:53.519 --> 00:17:56.799
And I literally see people in all different states of disarray.
00:17:56.880 --> 00:17:59.680
There was a person that's on life support that was in a car accident.
00:17:59.759 --> 00:18:01.519
There's someone battling cancer.
00:18:02.559 --> 00:18:06.240
Robin, I make one of the most definitive decisions of my life.
00:18:06.640 --> 00:18:11.359
I I've been defined by my physicality for 33 years.
00:18:11.519 --> 00:18:14.400
I teach jujitsu, boxing, I'm a fitness guy.
00:18:14.640 --> 00:18:16.079
All that is gone.
00:18:16.319 --> 00:18:16.880
Right.
00:18:17.119 --> 00:18:26.160
And so I made a decision, number one, that if I was going to have a pity party for myself and feel sorry, it was going to be right now, in that moment.
00:18:26.319 --> 00:18:32.240
And by the time they got me to my room, all of my focus had to be on finding a solution.
00:18:32.480 --> 00:18:35.119
Because I was all I had left was my mentality.
00:18:35.279 --> 00:18:36.000
Here I am.
00:18:36.160 --> 00:18:38.319
You don't know this, but I I've been dropped.
00:18:38.480 --> 00:18:40.400
I was on a reality show for ESPN.
00:18:40.480 --> 00:18:48.160
They dropped me in the middle of British Columbia, Canada, and I had to live for 14 days on my own, running 20 miles a day for 14 days.
00:18:48.400 --> 00:18:48.799
Wow.
00:18:49.119 --> 00:18:53.039
So all everything I've powered through in my life has been my physicality.
00:18:53.200 --> 00:18:53.519
Right.
00:18:53.920 --> 00:18:58.240
Learn that it's really your mentality that controls everything.
00:18:58.880 --> 00:19:06.400
And so they bring me to the room, they put me in bed, they put me next to the life support.
00:19:06.880 --> 00:19:14.000
And the first decision I make is I don't have a great relationship with hospitals.
00:19:14.160 --> 00:19:20.160
My father suffered from cancer and was in the hospital for months, and I was there every day with him.
00:19:20.480 --> 00:19:24.240
And so it's not a great place for me.
00:19:24.319 --> 00:19:27.519
You hear the beeping of the machines, you hear people suffering.
00:19:28.079 --> 00:19:31.279
And so I had to transport myself out of there.
00:19:31.440 --> 00:19:35.039
Although I couldn't do it physically, I knew I had to do it mentally.
00:19:35.519 --> 00:19:40.960
For me, one of the things that inspires me, that really can transport me is music.
00:19:41.119 --> 00:19:41.440
Yeah.
00:19:41.759 --> 00:19:50.400
So I had my wife bring a speaker and headphones, and one of my clients for 20 years was Ziggy Marley, Bob Marley first son.
00:19:50.960 --> 00:19:54.720
So I was playing Bob Marley and Ziggy Marley and things that inspire me.
00:19:54.799 --> 00:20:08.480
I didn't care if people thought I was crazy, but I was like, there's gonna be too many instances here where I can go into a dark place and get into this negative mindset, and I need to keep my mind active on things that really make me happy.
00:20:08.640 --> 00:20:09.039
Yeah.
00:20:09.200 --> 00:20:10.799
And so that was number one.
00:20:11.119 --> 00:20:17.680
Number two was I'm a big believer, prayer has really helped me in my life and visualization.
00:20:18.000 --> 00:20:24.319
And so I was praying, I was doing breath work and I was visualizing my body healing itself.
00:20:24.720 --> 00:20:26.960
Now, people might go, that's mumbo jumbo.
00:20:27.039 --> 00:20:33.920
I'm okay with their believing that, but I needed to also keep active so I didn't think about all the things I didn't have.
00:20:34.079 --> 00:20:39.920
So I had to be an active participant in addition to the doctors, the nurses, and the medication.
00:20:40.640 --> 00:20:44.880
And then the third key to my success, boy.
00:20:46.000 --> 00:20:49.440
So I lost my ability to swallow whole food.
00:20:49.519 --> 00:20:51.200
I had to have everything pureeed.
00:20:51.279 --> 00:20:53.839
I lost my ability to use the bathroom on my own.
00:20:53.920 --> 00:20:55.359
I had to be catheterized.
00:20:55.440 --> 00:20:58.000
I was fully paralyzed six days into this.
00:20:58.160 --> 00:21:01.440
Yeah, I had soiled myself multiple times in my bed.
00:21:01.599 --> 00:21:05.359
It was, I was very emasculated.
00:21:05.519 --> 00:21:06.880
It was demoralizing.
00:21:07.119 --> 00:21:10.400
I was doing everything I could to stay positive.
00:21:10.720 --> 00:21:19.279
Day six into being paralyzed, they brought me to do a CT scan because they thought I might have had a stroke or a heart attack.
00:21:19.359 --> 00:21:22.799
They put me up to an EKG, heart attack comes back negative.
00:21:22.960 --> 00:21:25.119
They got to give me a CT scan.
00:21:26.000 --> 00:21:28.720
Boy, this is the longest I've talked without taking a break.
00:21:29.039 --> 00:21:29.680
Sorry.
00:21:32.720 --> 00:21:35.359
My wife is in the room at that point.
00:21:35.519 --> 00:21:36.640
They take me off.
00:21:36.880 --> 00:21:38.880
Two nurses put me in a wheelchair.
00:21:39.039 --> 00:21:41.119
They go to get me in a CT scan.
00:21:41.279 --> 00:21:42.880
I go unconscious.
00:21:43.200 --> 00:21:49.200
And I wake up on the floor, and every doctor on the floor, they had called a code blue.
00:21:49.440 --> 00:21:52.319
Every doctor on the floor is standing above me.
00:21:52.880 --> 00:21:59.680
And I know that I am concerned for my own well being, but I'm also concerned that my wife.
00:22:00.400 --> 00:22:02.880
I know she knows that that code blue is for me.
00:22:02.960 --> 00:22:04.160
I just left the room.
00:22:04.319 --> 00:22:07.440
So I'm also concerned about how she's feeling.
00:22:08.079 --> 00:22:10.640
So that was one of the toughest days.
00:22:10.880 --> 00:22:25.279
I go in the CT scan for an hour and 45 minutes, and I kind of go a little manic in the sense that I should be exhausted, but I focus on all the things I can do to get out of this situation instead.
00:22:25.519 --> 00:22:27.119
I don't sleep one minute.
00:22:27.279 --> 00:22:28.400
I'm up all night.
00:22:28.480 --> 00:22:34.000
I get out of the CT scan, and that night I'm praying, I'm breathing, I'm visualizing.
00:22:34.240 --> 00:22:37.200
My wife had come up with a third component of this.
00:22:37.920 --> 00:22:44.559
I would love to, if you ever come across something dealing with hospitals or patients, I would love to donate my time to help.
00:22:45.039 --> 00:22:52.880
Because unfortunately, in hospitals, the food is like chicken fingers and French fries.
00:22:53.519 --> 00:22:59.200
And now here we have people that are probably in the most traumatic part of their life that need healing.
00:22:59.440 --> 00:23:06.000
And we have the caregiver that we need every ounce of excellence and ability they have to help heal these people.
00:23:06.240 --> 00:23:09.759
And everybody's being fueled on MMs and chicken fingers.
00:23:10.000 --> 00:23:10.319
Right.
00:23:10.480 --> 00:23:10.960
Yeah.
00:23:11.200 --> 00:23:19.519
So my wife came up with the idea because I had to have pureed food that she was going to pure organic food for me and bring it back into the hospital.
00:23:19.680 --> 00:23:22.720
So now at least we're doing something on a cellular level.
00:23:22.960 --> 00:23:28.880
And so I had the music, I had the prayer, I had the breath work, I had the pureed food.
00:23:29.200 --> 00:23:31.839
And there's a whole lot that happens in there.
00:23:32.000 --> 00:23:43.440
But long story is after 10 days, I get stable enough where I can be discharged from the ICU in a wheelchair.
00:23:43.599 --> 00:23:47.759
And I start my extensive rehab to relearn how to walk.
00:23:48.000 --> 00:23:53.599
And I graduate from a wheelchair to a walker to a cane.
00:23:54.319 --> 00:23:57.920
And when I say gratitude, this is where I learned gratitude.
00:23:58.240 --> 00:24:03.759
In points in my life, I did look on the other side of the table and go, I don't have this or that.
00:24:04.000 --> 00:24:06.319
I felt like inadequate sometimes.
00:24:06.480 --> 00:24:12.640
But when you wake up and the only thing you have is moving your finger, I had to be grateful for that.
00:24:12.799 --> 00:24:13.119
Yeah.
00:24:13.440 --> 00:24:15.920
I didn't focus on the fact that I couldn't walk.
00:24:16.079 --> 00:24:18.720
I didn't focus on the fact I couldn't move my other hand.
00:24:18.880 --> 00:24:21.759
I said, This is better than it was yesterday.
00:24:22.000 --> 00:24:27.440
And I'm going to keep working on this until I can do this, until I can do this.
00:24:27.599 --> 00:24:27.839
Right.
00:24:28.000 --> 00:24:35.119
And so I became very grateful for all the things I had, even though they were the littlest amount that I had had in my life.
00:24:35.279 --> 00:24:44.799
And it was those small incremental steps that were able to get me back to walking, that were able to get me back to a place where I can once again help people.
00:24:45.440 --> 00:24:46.400
Oh my goodness.
00:24:46.480 --> 00:24:47.599
That is such a blessing.
00:24:47.759 --> 00:24:50.079
I that gave me goosebumps hearing that story.
00:24:50.160 --> 00:24:54.079
So you said it was a total of 10 days that you were fully paralyzed.
00:24:54.319 --> 00:24:55.920
Yeah, in the ICU.
00:24:56.240 --> 00:24:58.640
And this is an autoimmune disease?
00:24:58.880 --> 00:24:59.359
Mm-hmm.
00:25:00.400 --> 00:25:13.279
So what it the way it manifests itself is Gyambore syndrome attacks your own body, is sending signals for your body to attack your nerve endings, the myelin sheath on your nerves.
00:25:13.440 --> 00:25:17.200
And my body was eating away at the myelin sheath on my nerves.
00:25:17.279 --> 00:25:24.880
Now, if you don't get electrical charges from your nerves, it doesn't send anything to your skeletal system, your muscles.
00:25:25.039 --> 00:25:30.079
So without your nerve endings, that's I lost all movement.
00:25:30.880 --> 00:25:40.480
And through the blessing of the doctors, the nurses, there's a uh they had to give me uh intravenous medicine called I immunoglobin I VIG.
00:25:41.039 --> 00:25:45.279
That helps calm my body down so it stopped attacking itself.
00:25:45.440 --> 00:25:45.680
Yeah.
00:25:45.920 --> 00:25:54.799
Literally, I put a lot of weight in all the other things that we did, the nutrition, in the prayer, in the breath work, in visualization.
00:25:55.359 --> 00:26:01.519
And my body was able to reverse course and I was able to work my way out of there.
00:26:02.000 --> 00:26:11.920
And unfortunately, through this and through writing books, I've been contacted by a lot of people that have also had the same autoimmune disorder.
00:26:12.000 --> 00:26:12.319
Yeah.
00:26:12.480 --> 00:26:15.519
And I've been very blessed in the amount of recovery I've had.
00:26:15.680 --> 00:26:20.319
I've been very blessed because a lot of people don't recover that much or never recover.
00:26:20.960 --> 00:26:22.319
Oh my goodness.
00:26:22.480 --> 00:26:25.519
And how long did it take for the full recovery?
00:26:25.839 --> 00:26:31.440
I would say, you know, I still don't have feeling on the bottom of my feet.
00:26:31.599 --> 00:26:31.920
Okay.
00:26:32.079 --> 00:26:34.000
But I don't look at it as a negative.
00:26:34.160 --> 00:26:37.279
I look at it as a daily reminder of where I've been.
00:26:37.599 --> 00:26:40.319
And I have all these other things.
00:26:40.480 --> 00:26:44.400
And so that's like a little memento from the what I've been through.
00:26:44.640 --> 00:26:49.599
So may I fully, I may never fully recover if we say, you know, getting feeling your feet.
00:26:49.759 --> 00:26:51.920
But it took about three months.
00:26:52.160 --> 00:26:57.440
I did, I'm a little extreme sometimes, maybe all the time.
00:26:57.599 --> 00:27:01.039
They were like, you're going to do physical pet therapy two to three days a week.
00:27:01.519 --> 00:27:04.640
I was like, no, we're going to do physical therapy seven days a week.
00:27:04.799 --> 00:27:08.480
I'll meet a physical therapist five days and I'll do two days on my own.
00:27:08.640 --> 00:27:10.880
And so I did that seven days a week.
00:27:10.960 --> 00:27:12.799
And sometimes it was just a couple minutes.
00:27:12.880 --> 00:27:17.440
Like I would collapse trying to make it from my bed to the couch in the walker.
00:27:17.680 --> 00:27:22.079
I wouldn't make it, but I would go back and I'll go, okay, we'll try to go a little further next time.
00:27:22.319 --> 00:27:27.279
And so about three months, I was pretty well off after about three months of that.
00:27:27.519 --> 00:27:28.160
Yeah.
00:27:28.720 --> 00:27:29.599
Oh my goodness.
00:27:29.759 --> 00:27:32.880
So yeah, like you said, gratitude and putting in the work.
00:27:33.039 --> 00:27:34.000
Like you got it.
00:27:34.240 --> 00:27:43.440
No matter how hard it may become or how hard it is, it's about putting in that work and waking up each day and just doing whatever it takes.
00:27:43.759 --> 00:27:45.200
Yeah, for sure.
00:27:45.519 --> 00:27:47.440
That is, oh my goodness.
00:27:47.519 --> 00:27:48.559
That's that's powerful.
00:27:48.720 --> 00:27:51.440
That is a very, very, you're a very strong man.
00:27:52.079 --> 00:27:52.799
Oh, thank you.
00:27:52.960 --> 00:27:53.920
Oh my goodness.
00:27:54.160 --> 00:27:58.799
So, and then for that, is that what led to your speaking career or right?
00:27:59.039 --> 00:28:01.119
Is that what led to writing the books?
00:28:01.440 --> 00:28:03.200
All of that, those are great questions.
00:28:03.440 --> 00:28:06.960
So there was a day where I was 100% defeated.
00:28:07.039 --> 00:28:09.039
I was in the garage with my wife.
00:28:09.200 --> 00:28:11.359
I was in a walker at that point.
00:28:12.000 --> 00:28:15.519
And we have video of this, she just happened to tape it.
00:28:15.680 --> 00:28:17.519
But I was just trying to bend my knees.
00:28:17.680 --> 00:28:20.559
I was at the point where I could use a walker and I could bend my knees.
00:28:20.640 --> 00:28:22.480
And I was just exhausted.
00:28:22.640 --> 00:28:24.720
It had been a couple months.
00:28:24.960 --> 00:28:28.960
And I went back in my room and I was sitting there looking in the mirror.
00:28:29.359 --> 00:28:32.400
And I was like, how do I proceed with this?
00:28:32.720 --> 00:28:41.200
And I realized that for so many years I had been telling my clients in training and fitness that our mind is so strong.
00:28:41.359 --> 00:28:45.680
And it was time for me to take a dose of my own medicine and my own advice.
00:28:46.079 --> 00:28:51.200
And what I didn't tell you is when I was arrested, I was in a jail cell.
00:28:52.240 --> 00:28:59.359
There was a point where I was in limbo where they didn't know what was going to happen to the individual I hit.
00:28:59.599 --> 00:29:02.880
And if he had passed away, I would have been charged with manslaughter.
00:29:03.440 --> 00:29:19.119
And when the detective, Detective Harris came to talk to me and let me know that the person that I got in a fight with had lived, had survived, he said to me, What are you gonna do with the rest of your life?
00:29:22.559 --> 00:29:42.319
And so here I am, you know, fresh off of being completely paralyzed, defeated, and I hear his voice asking me, what am I gonna do?
00:29:42.960 --> 00:30:20.079
And I knew at that moment that I had to take the opportunity of being paralyzed to use it to help other people, and that was my motivation into getting into speaking, and that was my motivation into writing a book, and here I am the same guy that was told to put your hand out, have dyslexia, and I end up writing a book.
00:30:20.319 --> 00:30:43.839
I've never written anything, and it becomes a bestseller, but it was through those challenges and the adversity that blossomed that because if none of that happened, I wouldn't have had the inspiration to do that, and so that's how I got inspired to write a book.
00:30:44.000 --> 00:30:58.799
I'm like, hey, I can't move the rest of my body, but I have my mind and I can start moving my hands and I'll type on a keyboard, and so that's what got my first book done was the opportunity of not being able to work for three months or do stuff.
00:30:59.039 --> 00:31:05.039
I started filling that with okay, what are things in my life that I've been through that I can share?
00:31:05.359 --> 00:31:10.880
Because for years I didn't tell anybody with these things.
00:31:11.119 --> 00:31:16.880
There was such a layer of shame on it that I never told people I was arrested.
00:31:17.039 --> 00:31:26.240
I mean, the people that knew, you know, from my neighborhood knew and all that, but I never I was I've known people 20 known people 20 years, they never knew.
00:31:26.400 --> 00:31:41.680
And so I said, I have to remove the veil of shame of that, expose it, go, I've been through this, I'm gonna come out on the other side, and you may be going through something similar, and you can do the same.
00:31:42.000 --> 00:31:42.640
Right.
00:31:43.680 --> 00:31:55.759
I I greatly appreciate that, and then what so because of that, you know, what I gained from that is our adversities sometimes are what give birth to our purpose, right?
00:31:55.839 --> 00:31:57.279
And it gives us that voice.
00:31:57.359 --> 00:32:00.799
That way we're able to be that testimony for others.
00:32:01.119 --> 00:32:12.720
And what after writing these books and going through this, how did you become a keynote speaker and start touring and going to schools and speaking to other uh schools?
00:32:12.960 --> 00:32:14.480
I wish I could tell you.
00:32:15.599 --> 00:32:19.839
No, the reality of it is I started studying what other people were doing.
00:32:20.000 --> 00:32:23.119
I feel like there's footprints left in whatever you want to achieve.
00:32:23.279 --> 00:32:27.440
If you're willing to investigate, invest in yourself, like in resources.
00:32:27.599 --> 00:32:28.960
I started going to school for it.
00:32:29.039 --> 00:32:30.400
I started studying.
00:32:30.720 --> 00:32:38.240
And then, like my first speaking engagement that was this paid speaking engagement, I still to this day don't even know how they follow me.
00:32:38.400 --> 00:32:47.599
I think it was from a maybe I was on a podcast and I was telling the people at that time at the end of the podcast my aspirations are to share this story.
00:32:47.759 --> 00:32:48.079
Yeah.
00:32:48.400 --> 00:32:50.559
And somebody must have heard that.
00:32:50.720 --> 00:32:55.599
And they they hired me to go and speak at three different events.
00:32:55.839 --> 00:33:04.960
And from there, I just kept studying and putting in the work and working on my craft and my story, and hiring people that can help me that have been down this road.
00:33:05.119 --> 00:33:10.079
And I've been blessed once again that people have shared their life with me, have shared their knowledge.
00:33:10.240 --> 00:33:14.000
Yeah, and I do the best I can every day to do the same.
00:33:14.240 --> 00:33:16.960
And so it's just, I'm still in the infancy of it.
00:33:17.119 --> 00:33:19.359
You know, it's only been a year and a half.
00:33:19.680 --> 00:33:20.640
This is crazy.
00:33:20.799 --> 00:33:26.079
I've been hired to also speak to Google, to Amazon, to Whole Foods.
00:33:26.400 --> 00:33:29.200
My wife and I just did an amazing talk.
00:33:29.359 --> 00:33:31.200
I would never have thought this was possible.
00:33:31.279 --> 00:33:37.759
It's such a blessing to go and speak to the Mescalero Apache Indian tribe about health and wellness.
00:33:37.920 --> 00:33:43.839
And I'm like, talk about a community that's been through struggles, talk about a community that needs help.
00:33:44.000 --> 00:33:46.720
I'm honored that you would bring me out here.
00:33:46.880 --> 00:33:50.720
And so it's opened a lot of doors for me, and that's how I got into it.
00:33:51.440 --> 00:33:54.079
That is that is a major blessing.
00:33:54.240 --> 00:33:55.680
That is significant.
00:33:56.000 --> 00:33:57.279
Oh my goodness.
00:33:57.519 --> 00:34:00.400
And you say you and your wife both do that now.
00:34:00.960 --> 00:34:01.359
We do.
00:34:01.519 --> 00:34:06.319
We have done a couple, and my wife is a functional nutritionist.
00:34:06.559 --> 00:34:22.559
Basically, she looks at labs from blood work and can help with, as opposed to just exclusively medication, go, oh, maybe there's some lifestyle and and nutritional things that you can do that will help in addition to medication or remove the medication.
00:34:22.800 --> 00:34:35.440
And so we've been together so long, it's a great dynamic where she can have the perspective from a female, and I can have the a different perspective, and we can serve a wider community of helping people.
00:34:35.679 --> 00:34:36.480
I like that.
00:34:36.719 --> 00:34:39.039
Do your children join in or no?
00:34:39.360 --> 00:34:40.480
Oh my god.
00:34:42.880 --> 00:34:52.480
We just came from New Mexico a couple weeks ago, and my we made a vacation out of it, a family thing, and it was an amazing trip, and everything was amazing.
00:34:52.719 --> 00:34:57.519
So we presented at like 12 o'clock in the afternoon, and then we we were done.
00:34:57.599 --> 00:35:09.199
We stayed till like two o'clock, and we were at the pool at this hotel where it took place, and my kids are swimming, and we get a car, and they said, We would love for you to come to closing ceremonies.
00:35:09.440 --> 00:35:17.679
We have some native Mescalero Apache Indians and they're doing a ceremonial dance, and we they would love for you to be part of it.
00:35:18.000 --> 00:35:21.440
So my kids come and they're mortified.
00:35:21.599 --> 00:35:28.320
I look at it like, when am I ever gonna get asked to be participate in like a Native American dance and everything?
00:35:28.480 --> 00:35:34.880
I looked at it as a blessing, so I was like, I know I look ridiculous, I know I'm silly, but I'm gonna be silly.
00:35:35.039 --> 00:35:45.199
And my wife and I get up there, and our kids were like, Oh my god, those are not my parents, those are not my parents, and they left, they're going, we're going to get something to eat.
00:35:45.360 --> 00:35:50.159
Yeah, you don't want to be embarrassed.
00:35:50.400 --> 00:35:56.400
Yeah, I feel like if you're not embarrassing your kids at least once a week, you're not doing your job, right?
00:35:56.719 --> 00:35:57.360
Exactly.
00:35:57.599 --> 00:36:00.079
I I definitely agree with that.
00:36:01.039 --> 00:36:04.719
Oh my goodness, that is just that is that is really amazing.
00:36:04.880 --> 00:36:05.599
Is there any word?
00:36:05.679 --> 00:36:08.400
Like, is that what do you call it?
00:36:08.480 --> 00:36:09.599
Is that like viral?
00:36:09.760 --> 00:36:11.519
Was that recorded or anything?
00:36:11.679 --> 00:36:12.079
Oh, yeah.
00:36:12.159 --> 00:36:18.079
So I mean, I have clips of it on my social media, and then I know they recorded some of it.
00:36:18.159 --> 00:36:21.440
It was in their local paper up there, it's on their websites.
00:36:21.679 --> 00:36:31.199
Yeah, you can uh I don't know if I've posted, I posted for the sake of my children's mental health.
00:36:31.360 --> 00:36:38.559
I have not posted my wife and I dancing with the Native Americans, but I have posted them dancing.
00:36:38.719 --> 00:36:40.800
I may leak that out at some point.
00:36:41.039 --> 00:36:41.360
Okay.
00:36:41.920 --> 00:36:43.840
I think they can handle it.
00:36:45.760 --> 00:36:47.599
Well, thank you so much.
00:36:47.840 --> 00:36:55.199
And out of any type of suggestion or advice or anything, is there anything that you would like to tell the listeners?
00:36:55.519 --> 00:36:56.159
Yes.
00:36:57.840 --> 00:37:00.400
One moment doesn't define your life.
00:37:00.719 --> 00:37:05.599
Sometimes we can't see the light, but we're in the darkest moments of our life.
00:37:05.679 --> 00:37:13.920
And know that you have to surround yourself with people that are going to support you, they're going to hold you accountable, that are going to also believe in your dreams.
00:37:14.400 --> 00:37:22.559
So know that there have been many moments in my life where if you took a snapshot in my life, you would go, that person is a degenerate.
00:37:22.800 --> 00:37:27.199
That person is, you know, not something you would want to be.
00:37:27.440 --> 00:37:37.280
Whatever you're going through in your life, if you're willing to put in the work, if you're willing to go and look for resources, you can become anything you want.
00:37:37.599 --> 00:37:41.519
Follow your dreams, follow your heart, keep yourself accountable.
00:37:41.679 --> 00:37:43.280
There's no magic wand.
00:37:43.440 --> 00:37:47.199
You'll have to put in work, but you can literally do it.
00:37:47.440 --> 00:37:50.400
And I would love to hear from anybody that needs support.
00:37:50.480 --> 00:37:52.000
I would love to hear from anybody.
00:37:52.159 --> 00:38:04.719
I love hearing not only success stories, but I love from hearing from people that are going through trials because it was a mentor, one or two mentors that really helped me in my darkest moments to get me here.
00:38:04.880 --> 00:38:07.760
And I need to pay that for it as much as I can.
00:38:08.320 --> 00:38:16.239
And John, what I know you said that you have a new book that's getting ready to be released on August 19th, but what are the names of your other books?
00:38:16.480 --> 00:38:17.840
So there is my new book.
00:38:17.920 --> 00:38:19.679
It's going to be out on the 19th.
00:38:19.840 --> 00:38:26.960
It was really designed to be a giveaway for kids at assemblies, something tangible for them to take away.
00:38:27.119 --> 00:38:31.199
Um, my other book, my first book was Confessions of a Hollywood Trainer.
00:38:32.000 --> 00:38:34.239
If you read it, there's a lot of swear words in there.
00:38:34.400 --> 00:38:38.559
I apologize, but I had to be honest to where I was at that point in my life.
00:38:38.719 --> 00:38:38.960
Yeah.
00:38:39.199 --> 00:38:50.159
My second book was Confessions of a Hollywood Trainer teen edition, because I have such an affinity for our youth, and I wanted to give them takeaways with all vulgar words or anything like that.
00:38:50.239 --> 00:38:55.039
So I can feel good in my heart that they're going to get a lesson minus all the things they don't need.
00:38:55.280 --> 00:38:58.079
And my third book is called Built from Failure.
00:38:58.320 --> 00:39:00.719
Yeah, I love how you did that for the teens.
00:39:00.800 --> 00:39:04.239
I I like how you kind of separated the two.
