ABOUT THIS EPISODE
On this episode of Inside College Soccer, Don Williams sits down with SRUSA consultant Sam Newell - a former NCAA Division II player who competed at the University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan, and a former SRUSA elite client who now works directly with players in the UK and beyond to help them navigate the college soccer pathway.
Sam shares his journey from student-athlete to consultant, drawing on his own experience of the college game to provide honest, practical advice for players at every stage of the recruiting process.
The conversation covers what college coaches are really looking for in recruits, how players can set themselves apart both on and off the field, and what incoming freshmen should focus on when they first arrive on campus - from mental preparation and physical readiness to technical development in a more competitive environment.
Whether you are a player trying to get recruited, a parent trying to understand the process, or a young athlete about to start your first college season, this episode is packed with real-world insight from someone who has lived the journey from both sides.
