ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The police called her to her job. Her first thought: “They’re going to deport me.” She’s been a citizen for almost twenty years.
This week they raided a congresswoman’s home over paperwork her father filed when she was a child. So the Inner Circle Podcast put the question on the table: denaturalization — should every immigrant in America be worried? And for the first time, the full table went at it. Ms. B says it’s about power and three weeks to an election. Abe — a supporter of the administration — says a country of laws investigates, no matter whose name is on the file. Then he says the part nobody expected: “I thought they’d only come after the worst of the worst. Now they’re doing things people overlooked.”
The receipts: 125 denaturalization cases in seventeen YEARS. 105 in the last seven months. But the Supreme Court says a simple mistake can’t take your citizenship — and the burden is on the government, in front of a judge.
The answer the night earned: not afraid — AWARE. Request your file. Read it like a book. And if it could happen to a congresswoman, let that keep you paying attention.
