ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Mission: "To be the discipleship program of choice for the community and our referrals and those young men who are phasing out of the foster care system and other boys programs. Bringing structure, boundaries and guidance. Providing a safe Christ centered environment, helping to prevent these young men from living on the streets and helping to ensure removal and prevention of drug, alcohol and other detrimental life choices."
“Phased Out”. This is a phrase given to children who reach 18 years of age in the foster care system and in other areas, such as boys ranches and other facilities that help with children who are without parents, without one parent or who has behavioral issues and the parents have given up on finding a solution.
1,500 youth "phase out" of the foster care system each year in the state of Texas alone. Half of those young people will be homeless after their 18th birthday. About the same number will enter a life of drug or alcohol addiction. Many of the girls will end up pregnant before their 20th birthday.
It has become such an epidemic that the prison systems of America base their future population on the number of youth who "phase out" of foster care.
Besides "Phasing Out" with the foster care programs of Texas, hundreds of young men leave the shelter and life style of a boys ranch, without a GED, without the life skills needed to help in adulthood and the discipleship to be the man that God has created them to be. To raise a family, to hold down a good job and to serve in their local communities.
So, where do they go at this point in their lives? Many will become homeless living on the streets of a major city somewhere in the US, turning to drugs and alcohol, running in the wrong crowds and other destructive lifestyles. Remember one of the key areas of the American Prison System uses to determine their future population!
