[gentle music] Welcome back to the Indigenous Wisdom Podcast. Yo soy Julia Carmen. Today I'm speaking with Julie Williams, scientist, healer, educator, and founder of Consciousness Medicine, and someone I've called a friend for over two decades. You may have heard my conversation with Julie back in episode 88, Seeing the Divine and the Potential in Everyone. If not, we'll have that episode in the links in our show notes today. Either way, yes, either way, I'm excited to welcome Julie back to the show today.
00:00:44,480 --> 00:01:19,580 [Julia Carmen]
Mirale. This is what Julie's done. Oh, s- anyways, let me talk, let me talk. [laughs] Julie has just published Om La La: The Power of Positivity Guideline, a conscious guide to transform life's challenges to lessons of love, healing, and divine wisdom. This is a collaboration book with 24 authors that hit number one in Ireland within days of launching. Check that out. And I had the honor of writing the forward.
00:01:21,200 --> 00:01:48,960 [Julia Carmen]
We talk about what it means to find your own voice on the page and in your own healing. We talk about the dog who taught her everything, and the women who hold us. Mm. And the difference between asking why and what if. I can't wait to share this conversation with you all. So let's begin. Oh, my goodness, I just gotta bring her on. Come on, Julie.
00:01:48,960 --> 00:02:46,920 [Speaker 1]
Oh, thanks, Julia, for having me on. You know, we go so far back, and you wrote the forward for this book, which is just so special for me. It's, it's a book called Om La La: The Power of Positivity Guidebook, and it's a collaborative effort, 24 different authors, including myself, each writing a chapter on how their greatest challenges in life were their greatest lessons of love and healing and divine wisdom. And I'm, it, it just launched a few days ago, and it's already a number one bestseller in Ireland. It's bestseller in UK, US, Australia. [laughs] I'm beside myself just thrilled because to get this message of positivity out that it is possible in your darkest moments that, you know, there's a, there's a reason why this is happening, for your growth. It's not to torture you. Y- right? And so
00:02:48,280 --> 00:03:21,200 [Speaker 1]
24 stories of real, real-life stories from these people, you know, the vulnerability that people are sharing, and then the guidebook aspect of it is that there's practices. Each author shares their story and shares a practice. So you can put it into action, read the chapter, and do exercises to help culture this positivity and, and culture, um, healing and transformation in so many different ways, in 24 different ways. [laughs]
00:03:21,200 --> 00:03:22,380 [Julia Carmen]
Julie, I mean,
00:03:23,460 --> 00:03:42,180 [Julia Carmen]
what in the world possessed you to do a book like this? This is huge. [laughs] That's the first thought. I mean, we've been talking story. We've been doing our little chisme back and forth through all the channels that we do. And you mentioned something at the pre, uh,
00:03:43,500 --> 00:03:53,420 [Julia Carmen]
you know, interview that you have been crying for joy. Um, share with us what that feels like. I, I, you know, this is a lot of work.
00:03:53,420 --> 00:03:56,030 [Speaker 1]
It, it is so much work. [laughs]
00:03:56,030 --> 00:03:56,820 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:03:56,820 --> 00:04:00,620 [Speaker 1]
But it's so rewarding. I mean-
00:04:00,620 --> 00:04:00,740 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:04:00,740 --> 00:04:29,680 [Speaker 1]
... this, the, for... The title Om La La is something that I've been playing around with for a good long time now, of just this playful nature that healing doesn't have to be, you know, focused on the problems and the issues. And we get so down far in the muck that we forget that transformation means bringing in more life force energy. And so this playful nature of Om La La, it's, it's been around for a while, and I haven't known how to apply it. And,
00:04:31,020 --> 00:04:44,060 [Speaker 1]
uh, Brave Healer Productions is a woman, I think you introduced me to her, one of our first book coaches. And so I've known her for a while, and I got an email, one of those sort of serendipitous things, saying, "Looking for
00:04:45,120 --> 00:05:10,120 [Speaker 1]
authors, c- lead authors for collaborative book projects." And I had just left Ireland after 15 years. I'm living a bit of a digital nomad, exploring the world. Um, and so I got the email, and I got that yes. Do you know that yes that you get from the inside? Yes. And I went, "Really?" [laughs]
00:05:10,120 --> 00:05:11,100 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:05:11,100 --> 00:05:18,969 [Speaker 1]
I'm really not in the best state of mind, having just moved out of 15 years of a place and not finding my feet yet, and everything's all in.
00:05:20,180 --> 00:05:20,520 [Speaker 1]
Do it.
00:05:21,790 --> 00:05:21,820 [Julia Carmen]
Mm.
00:05:21,820 --> 00:05:34,900 [Speaker 1]
And so I w- "Really? I, uh, w- do, can I get..." Mm. All these doubts, and I just kept getting the yes. And so I said, "Okay. Okay. I'm just going to... I'm gonna do it," right?
00:05:35,920 --> 00:05:46,190 [Speaker 1]
But recruiting 24 people and, I mean, there was sleepless nights. There was, "Oh, my gosh, what if I can't do this?" 27 backup plans of what if it could... You know? Like-
00:05:46,190 --> 00:05:46,190 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:05:46,190 --> 00:05:50,380 [Speaker 1]
... all of that that happens, right? [laughs] I'm the queen of backup plans.
00:05:51,620 --> 00:06:05,840 [Speaker 1]
And so to have this come to fruition and happen and achieve, not just for me, but for the other co-authors, this beautiful bestseller status, I-
00:06:05,840 --> 00:06:06,340 [Speaker 1]
Really
00:06:07,420 --> 00:06:11,640 [Speaker 1]
have been beside myself the last few days with tears of joy of,
00:06:12,660 --> 00:06:19,680 [Speaker 1]
you know... And I love to do this exercise when you worry about something in the past, and then it works out fine.
00:06:19,680 --> 00:06:20,110 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm. [laughs]
00:06:20,110 --> 00:06:20,940 [Speaker 1]
[laughs] And you really didn't
00:06:22,280 --> 00:06:27,280 [Speaker 1]
have to worry about it. Like, all those sleepless nights, all that worry was-
00:06:28,440 --> 00:06:28,450 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:06:28,450 --> 00:06:43,560 [Speaker 1]
... right, m- misused energy. I, I... And so I like to do this exercise where I go back to that version of myself and say, "Hey, hey, hey," like, "it all worked out okay." So I mean, the goal is, is that hopefully next time [laughs] I won't worry as much.
00:06:43,560 --> 00:06:43,580 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:06:43,580 --> 00:06:46,080 [Speaker 1]
I won't waste the energy on the worry.
00:06:46,080 --> 00:06:46,990 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah.
00:06:46,990 --> 00:06:50,060 [Speaker 1]
And so it's been that. It's been quite overwhelming, yeah.
00:06:50,060 --> 00:07:17,100 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. No, Julie, I thought you meant that, oh, goodness, you... that you said, "I do this exercise." I thought it was a tongue-in-cheek kinda deal, that you, you were sharing with us, "Oh, I do this exercise that I- I make myself, like, totally, you know... Oh, my goodness, I can't sleep 'cause of this and that. I wake up at 2:00 in the morning, da, da, da, da." And then, and everything works out. I didn't know that you actually did a exercise, uh, uh, you know, like, okay, go back there-
00:07:17,100 --> 00:07:17,110 [Speaker 1]
Yep
00:07:17,110 --> 00:07:17,480 [Julia Carmen]
... you know.
00:07:17,480 --> 00:07:20,300 [Speaker 1]
And I go back to that past, yeah, version. Yeah.
00:07:20,300 --> 00:07:23,300 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm. Mm, okay.
00:07:23,300 --> 00:07:30,500 [Speaker 1]
And also sit in gratitude. Yeah, like sit in gratitude, and last night I just was looking out the window at the sunset and
00:07:31,680 --> 00:07:53,220 [Speaker 1]
at the sky and thanking all of my ancestors and my supporters and all the people that, you know, wrote for the book and, um, really savoring in the achievement because I think often what we do, at least me, but I see other people do it with my clients, is we achieve something, and then we're on to the next thing.
00:07:53,220 --> 00:07:53,580 [Julia Carmen]
Mm.
00:07:53,580 --> 00:08:05,980 [Speaker 1]
We don't take the time to really savor what we've achieved and really sit with the gratitude of that and the joy of that. Um, so that's where I'm at now. [laughs]
00:08:05,980 --> 00:08:22,080 [Julia Carmen]
Oh, that's great. As you were sharing all of that, um, it... I've heard this before about writing a book is like, um, giving birth, uh, and you described all the h- high points there about
00:08:23,120 --> 00:08:47,810 [Julia Carmen]
giving birth and waking up at night at 2:00 in the morning, am I doing this right, and all these backup things, and then you just be with the baby, you know. Like, your book is the baby, right? And you, and you... then you have it, and you go, "[gasps] Oh, my gosh, I'm jumping for joy," and y- there's tears. Like, anybody else ever feel this way when they produce something? Mm-hmm. That's what it sounded like to me. That's what I can relate to, yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:08:47,810 --> 00:08:58,770 [Speaker 1]
Yeah, it definitely is a birthing, you know, and it, it... and also it's a legacy. I think as children are a legacy, books are a legacy. Books are out there forever.
00:08:58,770 --> 00:08:58,800 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:08:58,800 --> 00:09:00,920 [Speaker 1]
Well, I mean, right? But-
00:09:00,920 --> 00:09:01,530 [Julia Carmen]
We hope. [laughs]
00:09:01,530 --> 00:09:04,490 [Speaker 1]
Um, yeah, I mean, we hope. [laughs]
00:09:04,490 --> 00:09:04,879 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:09:04,880 --> 00:09:07,280 [Speaker 1]
You can still get 'em in print, right? Uh-
00:09:07,280 --> 00:09:07,349 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:09:07,349 --> 00:09:09,820 [Speaker 1]
... but at least e-books maybe are forever, right? Um-
00:09:09,820 --> 00:09:10,540 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:09:10,540 --> 00:09:24,440 [Speaker 1]
... and so it's this idea of the legacy, of the, uh, of, of putting something out there that's not just temporary, that it can go on for generations, and it can find its audience, um, is really special.
00:09:25,520 --> 00:10:07,830 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. You know what I, I, I, um, loved about the book? 24, and each person had their own individual, um, movements, what I call it, the movement of, of, of being still and listening to that still, small voice within and then coming up with this amazing way of being in the world, and they, the... not... at least all the ones that I read, and it, it seemed like being in line with everyone, it... They... Nobody was saying, "Hey, do it my way. This is the way." They were saying, "This is what I went through. This was my human experience, and then when I got quiet and listened to the divine" or whatever that which they called it,
00:10:08,960 --> 00:11:52,360 [Julia Carmen]
they go, "This is what I came up with, and maybe it'll be useful and helpful for you." That's what I picked up, and I thought, wow, that's one thing I like about this book because there are so many books out there, Julie, that say, "This is the only way to do it, and you have to follow these steps." Remember when, a long time ago, Jacqueline used to take me all over the place? She used to go, "You need to do this and follow this," and, and nothing on nothing, right? Nothing on her, but I used to go, "Jacqueline, that's just like you have to do each step," blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, right? "Oh, you have to do each step 'cause if you don't, it's gonna mess up the whole process." And I would go, "Eh, I don't know about that." Yeah. And this wasn't like that, and this is what I'm loving about the book. So I think that... I, I, I don't think. I know anyone that picks up this book is gonna find something for themselves, or if anything, uh, everybody, everybody that's listening, you listen- you folks that are listening, if anything, it will remind you to be s- still, in the stillness of self so that you can go home, and through these different ways of being of these beautiful, uh, human beings or hu-womens also too, um, it'll in- I think it'll be an... I, I used the word... I'm thinking of the word inspiration for your own soul self, your alma, to speak to you and say, "That's a really good idea, and why don't you try this also?" That's what I loved about it. It's, it's not just sharing with you, "Hey, do this." It's also say, "This would work for me. I went through this dark moment in my life, and I got quiet," and I... and however they did that was beautiful, and then, "This is what came up.
00:11:53,600 --> 00:11:57,300 [Julia Carmen]
Try it." There you go. Beautiful, mija.
00:11:58,340 --> 00:12:03,310 [Speaker 1]
Yeah, I love that 'cause y- uh, you're right. That is the thread that runs through it. It's, you know, people
00:12:04,780 --> 00:12:15,982 [Speaker 1]
coming to find their purpose in life and expressing their purpose in life and- How did they find that guidance? How, how did they know? And this is something I think a lot of people struggle with-
00:12:15,982 --> 00:12:15,992 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:12:15,992 --> 00:12:29,872 [Speaker 1]
... of trying to find what is their purpose in the world. And of course, our purpose is to be the fullest expression of the divine possible. It's pretty easy, right? But, you know, how do we express that? How do we put that into action, um, you know, and be... And so
00:12:31,572 --> 00:12:44,742 [Speaker 1]
you're right. It, it, it's how did they find their way to that? And the thread is they got still, they got quiet. You know, and it's often in these moments, of the hurricane moments, where we have to find our way into
00:12:46,152 --> 00:12:54,772 [Speaker 1]
that center of the storm, where it's calm and blue sky, and everything's swirling around us, and we can, we can really understand what's going on. And
00:12:56,132 --> 00:13:24,602 [Speaker 1]
the... You know, there is no one size fits all for healing. That's the other thing that really thrilled me about this book, is that, like exactly as you're saying, the book said, "This is how... This is what you need to do." And what used to get under my skin with all of those books that I had on my bookshelf, right, uh, uh, for self-help and what have you, it was the here's the what to do. And I go, "Okay, I get the concepts, but I... How? How do I put that into practice? How do I experientially
00:13:25,612 --> 00:13:46,862 [Speaker 1]
create the what that you're talking about?" And so that was also my mission for this book and vision, is the, with the how to guidebook. It's not just a, "Hey, I got quiet and I got this intuition that changed my life," and you read it and you go, "Yeah, well, how, how, how do I do..." Right? [laughs] You have practices [laughs]
00:13:47,872 --> 00:14:05,832 [Speaker 1]
that can guide you into that. Um, and you know, or if you're reading and you resonate with one of the 24 people of, "Oh, yeah, that's happened to me before. I've had that sort of feeling that that author's talking about." And because we all have this wisdom within us, and we just need to,
00:14:07,212 --> 00:14:31,352 [Speaker 1]
to find out what's the frequency of energy, what's the sound, which voice to listen to, [laughs] right? Like cutting out the noise. And which is the... You know, I mean, for me, it's, it comes from the low belly, and it comes from the inside out. And it's this, it's a feeling for me. I'm very kinesthetic. And when I have that feeling, when I get that information,
00:14:32,512 --> 00:15:08,612 [Speaker 1]
I know it's a yes, like with this book, even though my mind was like, "Really? Re- really? I don't, I don't..." Yeah, it... [laughs] I don't argue with that anymore. So I really want to help guide people to find that within themselves, that voice they know they can trust, uh, that wisdom that comes from within them to guide them on their path of their, their purpose, supported by, you know, your ancestors and guides and all the unseen energies, uh, that, uh, want us to win in life.
00:15:08,612 --> 00:15:35,412 [Julia Carmen]
Exactly. I love the way you put that. You know, the, the, uh, you know, the busy mind, all that stuff that goes on in our brains because... But you're, you're a scientist, and you're... You do this work, and that's your line back when and then da, da. Then you bring them together. So I can only imagine, um, the sci- uh, 'cause I call the brain, the human brain, the scientist. It just, it, it's evidence-based. It's always looking. Like
00:15:36,512 --> 00:16:03,132 [Julia Carmen]
if it, the brain didn't create it or wasn't an experience in the human realm, and then something from the non-physical and the soul self of being, the brain goes, "Uh, mm-hmm. I don't think so." [laughs] And so it'll look for different ways to make it not real, yeah, how to deal. I was like, "Okay." So I love how you just said, "Hey, you know..." And the other piece, let me... Um, I have to get quiet here because I get so excited.
00:16:05,092 --> 00:16:59,572 [Julia Carmen]
Everyone hears that wisdom within their soul self, their alma, differently, and I... That is so cool that you describe yours 'cause everybody's is different. You know, you said, "I get a feeling." And so, well, I use the word seeing, but I'm not talking about actually seeing with your eyes. The seeing is more like the big seeing of the all. And you're saying, "In my body, I feel it, like right here, and that's a yes." For someone else, I've heard them... I was working with somebody the other... Uh, a student of mine, and she says, "Oh my gosh, my left big toe just buzzes when I'm on the right track." And I just love that. [laughs] That is so unique just for her. And she's... I go, "Well, that, you know, as you know, Julie, the right side is giving, and the left side is receiving." So I'm going, "Yes, that means you're receiving blah, blah, blah," you know? [laughs]
00:16:59,572 --> 00:16:59,892 [Speaker 1]
Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:59,892 --> 00:17:02,452 [Julia Carmen]
But isn't that the fun thing-
00:17:02,452 --> 00:17:02,812 [Speaker 1]
Mm-hmm
00:17:02,812 --> 00:17:06,492 [Julia Carmen]
... to find your own way for your body, 'cause we're in a body,
00:17:07,952 --> 00:17:16,492 [Julia Carmen]
when there's a big yes? So when Laura's email went through, you're, you got the yes, and your brain's going, "No."
00:17:16,492 --> 00:17:16,782 [Speaker 1]
[laughs]
00:17:16,782 --> 00:17:44,551 [Julia Carmen]
"What in the world do you think you're talking about? [laughs] My stuff's in storage. I'm gonna go over here. What? W- what? I need my stuff to do my writing." And I w- uh, I'm gonna out you a little bit here. I remember you, you made me giggle for the longest time about finding the right cafe, the right chair, the right... [laughs] To, to write. To write, W.
00:17:44,552 --> 00:17:44,812 [Speaker 1]
Mm-hmm.
00:17:44,812 --> 00:17:58,592 [Julia Carmen]
The R to the W, right? You would go, "Oh, I found this chair. Oh, it, it's good. I found this cafe. I can do my writing here." And I would giggle because I, I'm with you. I would go, "Oh, God." So I called it what? The Goldilocks thing, right? Yeah.
00:17:58,592 --> 00:18:23,254 [Speaker 1]
I think for new writers, 'cause y- I've shifted out of that where the environment has to be perfect, and I have to be in the perfect state of mind to write Now, there are some first drafts of books that I wrote, you know, and they tell you, "Just write them and don't go back and read them. Don't edit it. Just stream of consciousness, beginning till end." And I've done so many different approaches. [laughs]
00:18:23,254 --> 00:18:23,284 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:18:23,284 --> 00:18:54,224 [Speaker 1]
I did that once, and then I went back and I read the draft, and I could tell what mood I was in. I could tell if I was having a good day or a bad day. Like, the voice was all over the place. And so this idea of finding a place where I can connect into my voice, right? Being dependent on the space holding that for me. And then once you find your voice as a writer, which these collaborative projects really help you do, 'cause I did two projects before I led this one as a, as a co-author, and it...
00:18:55,444 --> 00:18:59,544 [Speaker 1]
They helped me find the place within me that I write from,
00:19:00,724 --> 00:19:17,244 [Speaker 1]
my, my voice, and so I can drop into that place when I need to versus, oh, I don't feel like writing today. I'm not gonna. But when you write a book, it takes a lot of time, and you can't just... You gotta write every single day, whether you feel like it or not, right? [laughs]
00:19:17,244 --> 00:19:18,184 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:19:19,474 --> 00:19:19,504 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:19:19,504 --> 00:20:12,094 [Speaker 1]
And being able to drop into finding your voice, dropping into that, and having that within, that's so empowering as well to know that it's not something that's dependent on the external world, like the cafe or where I am or, you know. But with that said, I'm a very place-oriented person, so there are places that I call writing vortexes. In India, I've just come back from five months in South Goa, and that's one of those vortexes. The quality of my writing and the amount of writing that comes through me when I am in that location on this beach [laughs] general area of this beach is absolutely incredible. So I can also understand why, you know, some people who would go off and write and go, "Oh, I go to this place in Portugal, and every time I go to write a book," and I thought, all right. Is that Goldilocks, right? Or... But now I get it.
00:20:12,094 --> 00:20:12,143 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:20:12,144 --> 00:20:14,544 [Speaker 1]
Right? 'Cause there, there are places-
00:20:14,544 --> 00:20:14,974 [Julia Carmen]
Uh-huh
00:20:14,974 --> 00:20:18,344 [Speaker 1]
... where the energy just matches and the creativity-
00:20:18,344 --> 00:20:18,494 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:20:18,494 --> 00:20:40,724 [Speaker 1]
... just connects and allows you to flow from... Because writing is about the brain, but it's also... it's more about the heart. It's more about the presence. The brain steers, but your, you know, I don't even know, like, your creative energy, which is not necessarily in the brain, [laughs] right?
00:20:40,724 --> 00:20:41,244 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:20:41,244 --> 00:20:54,524 [Speaker 1]
Is where it comes from. So it's being able to find a place that you resonate with and that your energy feels good, connected, and embodied.
00:20:54,524 --> 00:21:08,244 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. No, I, I, I hear you, sister. Y- a, a little friend just showed up, and I'm sure he's there with you also, but he's like, "When is she gonna talk about me?" Share with us. Share with the listeners about Gabe.
00:21:08,244 --> 00:21:40,544 [Speaker 1]
The, the book is dedicated to my dog, Gabe, who was with me for 18 years, and my chapter is called My Dog is My Guru, and I used to use that as a hashtag, right? 'Cause I've trained in yoga and all these ashram places and, um, I thought, you know, my dog is... He's taught, he taught me so much in his life about the purity of presence. I mean, animals and dogs in, are, are like this, right? They don't think about what happened yesterday or what's going to happen tomorrow. They're fully present in the moment. And
00:21:41,584 --> 00:22:25,874 [Speaker 1]
this little guy, I rescued him, and you were part of me rescuing him. I can remember another point in my life where I had a cat who had just passed away, and I wanted to get a dog. And again, you said, "Do it," right? And I got the yes. I was like, "No, I, I can't," right? [laughs] Anyway, I found him, my soul dog, 100% my soul dog. We found each other. Um, and he taught me in his lifetime how I can love something, someone more every single day. I loved him more every day for those 18 years, and I wish I could say I had a relationship or a marriage like that. [laughs]
00:22:25,874 --> 00:22:25,884 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:22:25,884 --> 00:22:28,864 [Speaker 1]
But I'm glad I experienced it with my dog.
00:22:28,864 --> 00:22:29,124 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:22:29,124 --> 00:22:30,203 [Speaker 1]
Um, and so
00:22:31,624 --> 00:23:08,254 [Speaker 1]
my chapter is, in the book, is The Greatest Challenge, where he helped me through. It was with family constellation work, ancestral healing, which I also am trained in. And during my training, I was having a constellation done, and it was not my first one. It was one of the last ones I ever had done. So we were getting to the real core of the depth of the ancestral suffering that was holding me back from getting what I wanted in life. And in the constellation, the facilitator noticed the energy getting very, um, heavy, and she needed to bring in a resource, and so she asked me,
00:23:09,534 --> 00:23:48,774 [Speaker 1]
"We need to bring in a resource. You know, what keeps you feeling very safe in life?" And I mean, I'm fa- facing my greatest fear at this moment in this constellation. Like, safety was just not an option, [laughs] right? You know, I was like, "I don't know." And she says, "What, what brings you the most joy?" And I said, "My dog, Gabe." And so she brought in a representative for Gabe, and it changed the whole constellation. The amount of love that came through his representative, the whole room felt it. I felt it, and it really helped me shift, and that's my story in my chapter, how, how that love, him embodied in a different way and feeling his love opened up the way that
00:23:49,884 --> 00:25:21,206 [Speaker 1]
I was able to receive love and face my family and let go of the burdens I carried and be free of that and move forward. And I can remember after that constellation, the woman who represented Gabe in the constellation came up to me and she just said, "Thank you so much for that." That experience of ex- of feeling that much love And that much devotion and just pure unconditional love. She said, "I've never felt that before, and that will change my life forever." Um, yeah, so he's, uh, you know, in the chapter, I dedicated the book to him, and there's a few people that are involved in the book that knew him when he was living. And, um, he lived three lifetimes, big long lifetime. He's over the rainbow bridge now, as, as we say, um, and still with us in spirit, of course. Um, but also to have this legacy for him, um, because I think anybody that has a pet knows how special they are and how special those bonds are with our pet, and how that love is so pure and because we are their caretakers, and they devote themselves to us in that way, and that love that is shared between us is like no other, and it really can heal and transcend and teach us. Teach us so much. I mean, even to his last days, you know, he, he loved to play, and he made me play every day. He'd come if I was on the computer too long-
00:25:21,206 --> 00:25:21,206 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:25:21,206 --> 00:25:25,836 [Speaker 1]
... drop his toy, you know, on the screen or on the keyboard-
00:25:25,836 --> 00:25:25,846 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:25:25,846 --> 00:25:27,936 [Speaker 1]
... and say, "It's time, time to play now." You know?
00:25:27,936 --> 00:25:28,336 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:25:28,336 --> 00:25:34,946 [Speaker 1]
Even when he couldn't really move anymore. He couldn't jump and get his squeakies. Didn't matter. Just throw them, and he'll, you know, pretend-
00:25:34,946 --> 00:25:34,946 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:25:34,946 --> 00:25:39,086 [Speaker 1]
... he's gonna, you know, jump and catch them. Just play every day. He just taught me so-
00:25:40,296 --> 00:25:40,306 [Julia Carmen]
Mm
00:25:40,306 --> 00:25:42,976 [Speaker 1]
... so many lessons, um-
00:25:42,976 --> 00:25:43,316 [Julia Carmen]
Mm
00:25:43,316 --> 00:25:48,876 [Speaker 1]
... that, uh, I'm so happy to bring him into this, into this book and, um-
00:25:50,136 --> 00:25:50,356 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:25:50,356 --> 00:25:50,806 [Speaker 1]
... yeah.
00:25:50,806 --> 00:25:50,856 [Julia Carmen]
It- yeah
00:25:50,856 --> 00:25:59,996 [Speaker 1]
And I'm so happy that you were able also to write the forward 'cause you knew him, right? And you're able to, yeah, join in that love.
00:25:59,996 --> 00:26:06,176 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm. Yeah, he was... Uh, uh, that summer I spent at your place in Half Moo- uh, Montara? No.
00:26:07,396 --> 00:26:08,406 [Speaker 1]
Yeah, Montara.
00:26:08,406 --> 00:26:09,066 [Julia Carmen]
Was it Montara? Yeah, yeah.
00:26:09,066 --> 00:26:09,116 [Speaker 1]
Mm-hmm.
00:26:09,116 --> 00:26:49,086 [Julia Carmen]
Your, your last place here in the Bay Area. I had my haunani, and I still remember Gabe. Um, I, I... They, they communicated with each other, and shortly after that, my haunani passed, and that was really rough for, for me, for I. And, uh, Gabe knew. He just knew. You know, "See you later, chica," you know, kinda deal. And then, um, you know, I was like, "Oh, wow." And Gabe has, uh, been, you know, part of my journey also too. He, he would come to me different times, and then when I got my new dog almost, what, 15 years later, Nava, um, Gabe goes, "This is, this is your baby." And I go, "No." [laughs]
00:26:49,086 --> 00:26:50,906 [Speaker 1]
[laughs]
00:26:50,906 --> 00:28:11,996 [Julia Carmen]
'Cause, 'cause I did not want a male dog. I wanted a female dog and this and that, but you know how they pick. You know, Nava's like my, my, my sweetheart now. He's, he's my love, yeah. And I meet with other... I have children, and I have great-grand- grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and I will do anything for them. And then I meet up with other grandmothers that have lots of children and grandchildren, and we laugh so hard. And this is not just one person. We talk about our families. We talk about our kids, our grandchildren, and then we go, "You wanna see my dog?" And we have more pictures on our phones [laughs] of our dogs than we do of our grandchildren. [laughs] And we laugh because they're the ones, our dogs are the ones that get us through that, um, movement with, with the humans, with our little humans, with our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They keep us centered. When things happen to the ones that we will give our life to, what happens to us as women, as female frequency, when we, you know, come together in healing? Um, and then I know you've had some pretty amazing female relationships. I understand the female frequency of being. And
00:28:14,776 --> 00:28:16,736 [Julia Carmen]
yeah, I'll let you take it from there.
00:28:16,736 --> 00:28:17,036 [Speaker 1]
Mm-hmm.
00:28:18,096 --> 00:28:45,636 [Speaker 1]
Yeah, I think, you know, the, the women... You know, it's quite interesting because for most of my life, I had male friends. My best friends were men. I was an athlete, so I would hang out with all of the, the men, and I didn't have a lot of women in my life. The women maybe at, in the workplace I found. You really had to have women friends when I used to work in corporate America before I changed to do what I do now, and
00:28:46,716 --> 00:29:16,326 [Speaker 1]
because there's a different masculine and feminine nature to achieving and career and work. And, you know, there... And studies have shown scientifically that women need women in the workplace in order to really thrive. You know, we need these connections that, that women can only, um, create with each other in... I mean, what I notice is I, I like to spend time and have, be friends with men, but they,
00:29:17,396 --> 00:29:27,896 [Speaker 1]
they're really good at compartmentalizing things, and I kinda like that because it was just, it wasn't a lot of drama. I think I had a lot of drama with some women [laughs] and I was like-
00:29:27,896 --> 00:29:27,906 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:29:27,906 --> 00:29:30,776 [Speaker 1]
... like, "I don't really want the drama," right? But then-
00:29:30,776 --> 00:29:31,556 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:29:31,556 --> 00:30:18,216 [Speaker 1]
... there's something about the connection that, you know, the emotional connection as women that we can get to that... And I won't say it's a, it's a lack of men. I think it's just that we as women have had more generations over time to do that. We've always come together. You know, the red tent or coming together to take care of each other for birthing or being together or talking about our feelings and all of that, where the men had to go out and provide and hunt and do all those things, and emotions might have weakened that. So we've had a longer time on this planet generationally as women to get to the depths of this, you know, talking about what's true for us and talking about our emotions and-
00:30:18,216 --> 00:30:52,836 [Speaker 1]
And really listening. I think that's a really beautiful thing about female friends, you know, 'cause the masculine wants to fix, and so you, you know, you talk to them, and they're giving you, and it's like, "I don't... [laughs] I don't want any. I just..." [laughs] And it took me a long time, you know, to study the divine masculine and the divine feminine to understand that and understand that that's what they do. And know when I need support and I need ideas to fix it, I'll go to a man friend. [laughs] If I need to just be listened to and held,
00:30:54,136 --> 00:30:56,496 [Speaker 1]
I'll go to a woman, and I think that's
00:30:57,616 --> 00:31:11,116 [Speaker 1]
m- so special, uh, about female y- you know, relationships. And, and especially now, I mean, I, I'll admit it's quite interesting that I never saw myself as a gender
00:31:12,396 --> 00:31:26,976 [Speaker 1]
really. I mean... And what I mean by that is, you know, in corporate America, I never thought, oh, I'm in a boardroom full of men and I'm the only woman. I just was me doing my thing with my knowledge and my skills.
00:31:27,996 --> 00:31:29,596 [Speaker 1]
I... It didn't really play in,
00:31:31,036 --> 00:31:34,636 [Speaker 1]
you know. Uh, uh, and so, and I think that was really good for me because I didn't
00:31:35,796 --> 00:31:59,136 [Speaker 1]
feel the limits of, you know, women being paid less or having less opportunities or whatever. I just came to it from a place of equanimity. Um, and I think that as I've gotten older and the world has changed a little bit, I do see these differences now, and I have experienced some of those of I feel because I'm a woman I might not get the same opportunities as a man. And,
00:32:01,136 --> 00:32:11,566 [Speaker 1]
and I think that that brings us together as women in a way, right? You know, living in Ireland for so long and, um, one of the things that
00:32:12,776 --> 00:32:44,326 [Speaker 1]
[laughs] like would get under my skin in this power of positivity and how I've developed consciousness medicine to let's look at, you know, for what we have versus what we don't have. And I can remember sitting with a couple of friends, and they, we were all talking after we had gone to some movie or documentary or something that was pretty, you know, um, pretty big emotionally. And they were all, you know, talking, and it was very heavy, and it was... You know, for me it was a bit negative. I just thought, oh, can't we just talk about, you know, the good stuff, right?
00:32:45,516 --> 00:33:12,276 [Speaker 1]
And so it comes around to me, my friend notices that I'm quiet, and he says, "Julie, what do you think about it?" And I pretty much had enough. I was like, "I'm tired of all this, like, negativity. I mean, yes, these things happen, but why does it, why do we have to just talk about all the bad stuff? Why can't we focus a little bit on the good stuff?" And he said something really powerful to me that stuck with me to this day about the Irish culture, one of the many special things about it of living in Ireland for so long,
00:33:13,416 --> 00:33:43,625 [Speaker 1]
was that they come together in their suffering in order to transcend and rise out of that. And I think that women are really good at that as well. Like, that describes... And, you know, Ireland is based on Aroo, the feminine energy, and coming together in the suffering in order to transmute it, transcend it, rise above it. Um, and it changed the way I looked at that for a while, um, for a long time actually. I thought, oh, okay, yeah. Can't be the only way. [laughs]
00:33:43,625 --> 00:33:44,296 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:33:44,296 --> 00:33:46,655 [Speaker 1]
But I get it's an important way. [laughs]
00:33:46,656 --> 00:35:23,216 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. Yeah. No, I hear you, sister. I hear you, hermanita, 'cause that's exactly what... Yeah, it's, it's, uh, I think the basic yin and yang and, uh, you know, the, that movement. Yeah, uh, uh, it's, it's not just all dark and gloom, but that's all part of the light and the frequency. And I've, I've shared this with you, mija. I, I don't really look at things as high or low. I look at it as frequency and vibration of being. So like sometimes when I work with a group of certain people that have been through a lot of trauma, I don't say, oh, they're in, you know, low vibration or whatever. I just go, "That's a very dense frequency." It's a very dense... It's not right or wrong. It's just dense, and I need to be, um, in the awareness of that. And, and, and we, we don't... It's not our job to pull people out of that. It's our job, if, if, so-called job, is to be and listen and see. Like this, uh, person shared with you. Had he come back at you with, "Well, you don't understand. Well, da..." You know, he came back with compassion, number one for his people, for himself, for his country. And then in that compassion for self, he had compassion for you in the not knowing of that part in that moment, and that stayed with you, right, mija? Versus if he would've blasted you out of the water, then you would've said, "Oh, these people are so frigging negative." You know, right? So it really does go back to that listening. Uh, uh, you know, like sometimes we forget to listen to self.
00:35:24,796 --> 00:35:35,696 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. And it's that whole listening within, of that whole movement within one's, of self. So that, thank you for that. That's beautiful, and that's what, you know, this book's about.
00:35:35,696 --> 00:36:03,676 [Speaker 1]
About the balance, right? Like, it's balance because the... You know, similarly I don't... You know, there's no good, bad, right, wrong. Like, that gets into the dualistic nature, and the truth of who we are is very non-dual, right? Our consciousness has, you know, is well outside of the, the dualistic nature. So, you know, once we get into that, that place, we really need to bring some balance where... Because
00:36:04,856 --> 00:36:57,768 [Speaker 1]
I think the traditional models of therapy, and this is where these new paradigms are coming in, and I'm calling, I call it the master level of personal growth for people who have been on the path for a while exploring ... different things. And there comes a point where, yes, you need to understand what the issue is, right? How you track it. I track it as expansion and contraction, not, right, not with judgment or dualistic nature of things, but is it contracted or is it expansive, right? Is it dense or is it light? These are the, the kinds of things. And we need to understand it, we need to name it. Um, and but if we put our creative attention on that issue and nothing else, guess what happens? We create more of the issue to study it and understand it.
00:36:59,328 --> 00:37:11,868 [Speaker 1]
And it actually, there comes a point in the personal growth path where you really have to focus on, yes, I wanna release this, but what do I wanna bring in,
00:37:13,608 --> 00:37:25,668 [Speaker 1]
in that, right? So people ask me, okay, you know, well, what's an important message about positivity, right? It can be cultured. And one of the ways you can culture it is when something in your life is not going the way that you want it to.
00:37:26,688 --> 00:37:36,887 [Speaker 1]
Go, oh, God, this feeling, I don't wanna be feeling this way right now. Oh, man, right? Oh, what's going on? Oh, it's an imprint from my mom or childhood, this ancestral thing, or I must, right?
00:37:37,888 --> 00:37:55,208 [Speaker 1]
It, it, it gets bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger, right? [laughs] That's okay 'cause it's okay to understand where it comes from and work from it. But it's like, okay, what do I want to be feeling in- instead? And this is one of the practices that I do on a daily basis for the last few years,
00:37:56,688 --> 00:38:17,968 [Speaker 1]
where I'm not trying to figure out anymore where it comes from, what's underneath it, 'cause I've done that for 30 years, right? Like, I get the same answers. Like, I know. [laughs] Right? Like, okay. Okay? And I used to get frustrated and feel hopeless about that, of like, oh, no, I'm back in this place again,
00:38:19,008 --> 00:38:22,348 [Speaker 1]
and I don't understand why. And I... And so I stop,
00:38:23,548 --> 00:38:57,388 [Speaker 1]
I breathe, I drop into the heart, and I go, "What do I wanna be experiencing instead?" Right? Because when we can connect our vibration to something, what we want to be experiencing instead, the powers and the co-creation of the universe joins us in that. Because if it comes from our heart, and it's aligned with our greatest good and what God wants for us, right, w- to ha- be the fullness of who we are, when we ask for that, whoomph, that comes in,
00:38:58,488 --> 00:39:06,008 [Speaker 1]
right? And I think this was one of your teachings, actually. You helped me shift my mindset from if you keep asking-
00:39:06,008 --> 00:39:06,317 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:39:06,317 --> 00:39:08,068 [Speaker 1]
... why something's happening to you-
00:39:08,068 --> 00:39:08,817 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:39:08,817 --> 00:39:13,158 [Speaker 1]
... you're gonna get more of it, so you're gonna understand it. [laughs]
00:39:13,158 --> 00:40:00,468 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs] I know. I was just thinking of that when you, right before you said it. I'm like... I, I do it every now and then, mija, I swear. I'll be going, "¿Por qué?" Which is why. "Me está pasando esto. Yo no sé por qué." You know, I go on to my... 'Cause I, when I really get upset, I go into my first language, which is Spanish. And then my people, my ancestors, 'cause I can, like, visit with them, right, see them, uh, they start laughing, and they go, "¿Por qué? You wanna know why? Let's show you some more." I go, "No, no, no. No, no. It's okay. I get it." [laughs] And it's, it's a humorous thing now, but it took me a long time in my younger days to... You know, a good friend of mine said, "Honey, why are you asking the universe why?" And I go, "Why?" "101, Julia. 101." And I go, "Oh, farts in a bucket.
00:40:01,728 --> 00:40:03,668 [Julia Carmen]
Oh, okay."
00:40:05,188 --> 00:40:05,868 [Speaker 1]
Yeah. And it's-
00:40:05,868 --> 00:40:05,898 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:40:05,898 --> 00:40:09,678 [Speaker 1]
... bringing in those how questions and what questions. So this was-
00:40:09,678 --> 00:40:09,778 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:40:09,778 --> 00:40:16,878 [Speaker 1]
... I think you brought this into my awareness when I was training in NLP, neuro-linguistic programming, and-
00:40:16,878 --> 00:40:17,537 [Julia Carmen]
Oh, yeah. Mm-hmm
00:40:17,537 --> 00:40:22,477 [Speaker 1]
... which has you listen to the words that you use. [laughs] Right?
00:40:22,477 --> 00:40:22,477 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:40:22,477 --> 00:40:25,648 [Speaker 1]
'Cause words are very, very powerful.
00:40:25,648 --> 00:40:27,208 [Julia Carmen]
They sure are.
00:40:27,208 --> 00:40:44,798 [Speaker 1]
And instead of the why questions, if you can change it to a what needs to change in order for me to be free for this? What do I need to know or learn so that I can move on from this? How can I be different, right? The what if questions. What if... I love those, right?
00:40:46,248 --> 00:40:57,248 [Speaker 1]
Like, I did that a lot with this book. What if I could find 24 authors? What if, right? When I'd get in those moments of I can't do this, I don't know if I can do this. Oh, my gosh, I'm gonna fail. But what if?
00:40:58,608 --> 00:41:12,408 [Speaker 1]
What if you found all the authors? What if, right? Um, and it lightens it, doesn't it? And it also does something to your brain, where your brain's no longer getting lost in the spiral of the muck. It goes, "Oh,"
00:41:13,728 --> 00:41:19,528 [Speaker 1]
it, it expands. There's something else out there. The what if. And then when you open up to
00:41:20,748 --> 00:41:30,208 [Speaker 1]
ask, yeah, what if this is possible? For me, within 48 hours, something drops in, [laughs] right, of how to put that into action. Yeah.
00:41:30,208 --> 00:41:36,848 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm. Yeah. The, the question I love the most, right there, uh, I remember asking it,
00:41:38,188 --> 00:42:02,068 [Julia Carmen]
you know, to other folks, and I remember s- uh, Jacqueline asked me the question like 30 years ago: "What is it that you want?" When she asked me that question, I... 'Cause we could always say, "Oh, I want this, and I want that." "Oh, no, not what I want, but what you don't want." "Well, I don't want this to happen. I don't want that person to act that way," da, da, da, da, right? Yeah. "No, no, no. What do you want?" Oh, boy.
00:42:05,008 --> 00:42:05,908 [Julia Carmen]
And then the what ifs.
00:42:05,908 --> 00:42:06,927 [Speaker 1]
Mm-hmm.
00:42:06,928 --> 00:42:10,768 [Julia Carmen]
And, and it just opens the floodgate of that which we w- our birthright.
00:42:12,368 --> 00:42:12,908 [Julia Carmen]
Our birthright-
00:42:12,908 --> 00:42:12,958 [Speaker 1]
Yeah
00:42:12,958 --> 00:42:18,938 [Julia Carmen]
... is to what you were sharing a little, you were sharing just a little earlier in your book. [laughs]
00:42:20,944 --> 00:42:27,004 [Julia Carmen]
It has, you know, the, the, it has the, we have the answers within. We're the geniuses, we're the whatevers. But
00:42:28,804 --> 00:42:35,314 [Julia Carmen]
we're the magic. ""Mirale mija." The book's not the magic, but the people in there are the magic, and then they
00:42:36,664 --> 00:42:41,664 [Julia Carmen]
created their own magic and say, "Hey, guess what? If I could do this, you could do that."
00:42:42,704 --> 00:43:30,144 [Julia Carmen]
If I could create my own magic through stillness and create this whole thing. Some of... I looked at some of the folks in there, they have their own businesses, they have their own, uh, o- centers and this and that, and I'm like, "That's, that's what they created through that stillness when they thought, 'Nooo.'" You know, when they were in that depths of, of, "Ugh." Some, not everybody was like that, but you know, it's like, "Oh, I don't know what to do with this. I've been in the why. I've been in the why is this happening to me?" And then all of a sudden, boom, they got quiet. Boom, there they are. And they've created these [laughs] amazing works of art for themselves and other people. So it wasn't just for themselves to hold onto, it was to share it, and that's what community's about.
00:43:31,464 --> 00:43:48,123 [Julia Carmen]
And that the, uh, people can find their own tribe, their own community, their own village, their own movement of self. Uh, there's enough for everyone to be in, in communing with each other in however way we do that, right, mija?
00:43:49,364 --> 00:43:59,444 [Speaker 1]
Yes, absolutely. I mean, and, you know, when we come together, you know, the mathematical principle of being greater than the sum of the individual parts and-
00:43:59,504 --> 00:44:00,644 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:44:00,644 --> 00:44:16,704 [Speaker 1]
... this book, I mean, the energy that comes off the book, you know, that comes off the, the, the cover page, the, the image that we designed for the, for the book cover. I mean, the book vibrates [laughs] right? With-
00:44:16,704 --> 00:44:17,104 [Julia Carmen]
It does
00:44:17,104 --> 00:44:55,764 [Speaker 1]
... for those people that, that are, you know, attuned to energies and frequencies. Yes, it's words on a page, and yes, it's practices and meditations and stories. But, but there's also an energetic signature and charge to this book that I consciously put into it, which I do with, uh, for all my work, right? Of, you know, for the constellation work or consciousness medicine work. I put it out there for please let anybody who needs to find this work and find me as a practitioner to find their way to me. I call it energetic marketing. Um, and I, I have the stories of people finding my business cards on the beach. You know?
00:44:55,764 --> 00:44:56,624 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:44:56,624 --> 00:44:58,304 [Speaker 1]
It works, right?
00:44:58,304 --> 00:44:58,454 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:44:58,454 --> 00:45:07,174 [Speaker 1]
And so I do that with the book of, you know, bringing all, and, and it's... And when we come together like this, because as a solopreneur, you know-
00:45:07,174 --> 00:45:07,174 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:45:07,174 --> 00:45:10,034 [Speaker 1]
... somebody who does my own everything,
00:45:11,244 --> 00:45:12,384 [Speaker 1]
[laughs]
00:45:12,384 --> 00:45:12,534 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:45:12,534 --> 00:45:42,564 [Speaker 1]
... um, it really is nice to come together with this group and just create this, this energy, this collective energy around it and cross-pollinate our networks of, um, r- you know, really just coming together in collaboration and sharing and, um, sharing our energy, sharing our wisdom, our minds, our presence, our words, uh, you know, all of it really. Um, it's such a magical experience. Yeah.
00:45:42,564 --> 00:45:56,324 [Julia Carmen]
Y- you know what, mija? I, for those folks that do not know what, um, the title of the book means, will you share that? Um, how you pronounce the words and what it, it means? Yeah.
00:45:56,324 --> 00:46:00,084 [Speaker 1]
Oh, the, well, the Om, Om La La. Well, the Om-
00:46:00,144 --> 00:46:00,624 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:46:01,664 --> 00:46:16,934 [Speaker 1]
... is the, is the sound of the universe. Om, right? It's the, the resonance of the entire universe, om. Uh, so the om, and then the om la la is just, hey, let's just not take this too seriously, people. [laughs] Yeah, like-
00:46:18,164 --> 00:46:18,544 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:46:18,544 --> 00:46:21,144 [Speaker 1]
... it, it can be fun. It can be playful. We can-
00:46:21,144 --> 00:46:21,333 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:46:21,333 --> 00:46:48,064 [Speaker 1]
... you know, we can, we can learn through p- through play, through stories, through, you know... I mean, how do children learn, right? Through playing and, um, yeah. And so that, you know, the Power of Positivity guidebook is just that, the main principles of positivity that I outline, which are presence, coming back fully to yourself and to that, that stillness, full presence.
00:46:49,144 --> 00:46:57,484 [Speaker 1]
Then perception, understanding that your perception is, can be shifted, right? If you stand very close to a painting,
00:46:58,584 --> 00:47:07,924 [Speaker 1]
right? It, you c- you don't get it. You don't get it until you step back from it. The painting hasn't changed, but when you change your perspective, you can then see it.
00:47:08,944 --> 00:48:03,744 [Speaker 1]
And then there's possibility to know that there's potential in the world. The what if. What if this could be different, right? There's always potential and possibility. And practice. Practice, practice, practice. So because we're, you know, we as humans have this negativity bias built into us where we're searching for these things to keep ourself safe. So we're, we're already a bit on the back foot with it, and we have to practice these, you know, the possibilities, thinking about the possibilities and changing our perspective and nourishing our, our presence. So that's the, the power of positivity, um, the different principles, uh, that I've noticed in my years of working with people of, you know, how can we culture a mindset of positivity? It's not about bypassing, doing spiritual bypass and going, "Oh, I'm so enlightened," you know?
00:48:03,744 --> 00:48:03,763 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:48:03,764 --> 00:48:07,484 [Speaker 1]
And then you're like, "Uh, have you addressed that baggage you're carrying behind you-
00:48:07,484 --> 00:48:07,494 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:48:07,494 --> 00:48:10,594 [Speaker 1]
... you enlightened person? 'Cause that's gonna catch up with you," right?
00:48:12,144 --> 00:48:28,756 [Speaker 1]
It, you know, but it's really, you know, it's being so grateful for the challenges because they are our greatest learnings. Because when we're in that, right, we have to find the deeper truth within ourselves. And you're exactly right. These co-authors have
00:48:28,756 --> 00:48:38,676 [Speaker 1]
... cr- they found a truth within themselves, their authentic selves, and what their truth is. And when we use that as a compass to navigate our life,
00:48:39,716 --> 00:48:45,576 [Speaker 1]
I mean, there was times in my life, what's true for me just right now in this moment, j- and then I- it doesn't matter, next moment or the last moment.
00:48:45,576 --> 00:48:46,306 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. [laughs]
00:48:46,306 --> 00:48:49,146 [Speaker 1]
[laughs] 'Cause presence only exists in the moment.
00:48:49,146 --> 00:48:49,476 [Julia Carmen]
That's right.
00:48:49,476 --> 00:49:07,476 [Speaker 1]
And I had to navigate some difficult points in my life like that, of like what's true for me just right now here in this moment, in this breath, right? Next breath. What's true for me in this moment right here in this breath, right? And then navigating from that truth, um, is the way that you find your
00:49:08,916 --> 00:49:11,856 [Speaker 1]
embodiment of your, of yourself, where you can
00:49:13,056 --> 00:49:16,496 [Speaker 1]
care about others but not care what they think so much. I love that saying.
00:49:16,496 --> 00:49:17,096 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. Yeah.
00:49:17,096 --> 00:49:18,096 [Speaker 1]
Um, because
00:49:19,496 --> 00:49:22,556 [Speaker 1]
y- y- I mean, I'm a, raised as a people pleaser.
00:49:22,556 --> 00:49:22,566 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:49:22,566 --> 00:49:25,576 [Speaker 1]
All right? So I'm a recovering people pleaser, I guess you could say.
00:49:25,576 --> 00:49:25,596 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:49:25,596 --> 00:49:29,766 [Speaker 1]
I've channeled it into, into more positive things in my life, right? [laughs]
00:49:29,766 --> 00:49:30,516 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:49:30,516 --> 00:49:41,666 [Speaker 1]
Right. Um, and so to care, yeah, to care for people, but to know that, that what's true for me. Like, life is such a gift.
00:49:41,666 --> 00:49:41,676 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah.
00:49:41,676 --> 00:49:59,816 [Speaker 1]
It is such a gift. And every single day, this is how I walk my talk and live my life, that I want to live life to its fullest, whatever that means for me. The fullness of my moment means something different for somebody else, and
00:50:01,396 --> 00:50:03,956 [Speaker 1]
nobody's better or worse or whatever that is. But,
00:50:05,136 --> 00:50:16,796 [Speaker 1]
you know, I can remember somewhere along the line, I think it was the N- NLP training, and we had this saying where, "Oh, it doesn't feel very good, so that must mean I need to do it." Right? Like, that was our compass. If it was-
00:50:16,796 --> 00:50:16,806 [Julia Carmen]
I know
00:50:16,806 --> 00:50:21,336 [Speaker 1]
... uncomfortable, we had to run towards it, right? And at some point I went, oh, if-
00:50:21,336 --> 00:50:21,946 [Julia Carmen]
What?
00:50:21,946 --> 00:50:24,556 [Speaker 1]
... if it doesn't feel good, why [laughs] why-
00:50:24,556 --> 00:50:25,696 [Julia Carmen]
Why would I run to that?
00:50:25,696 --> 00:50:48,266 [Speaker 1]
... am I doing it? I mean, yeah, face your fear and do it anyway, right? I get that. But I started guiding by happiness, right? The people that I spent time with, did I leave feeling uplifted or did I leave feeling drained, right? The thing, the work, right? My job, did I, was it uplifting me and inspiring me, or was it beating me down and burning my, burning me out?
00:50:49,536 --> 00:50:50,076 [Speaker 1]
You know, and so
00:50:51,116 --> 00:51:01,096 [Speaker 1]
I... And it really brought some big changes in my life, 'cause I changed my career from corporate pharmaceuticals to what I do now, holistic healing, my own holistic healing business.
00:51:02,116 --> 00:51:39,396 [Speaker 1]
And the people that I hold dear, like yourself to me, it's a, it's a quite a small inner circle, right? Because, you know, when you're in this line of work, just like, you know, doctors will say this, where people will always go, "Oh, doc, can you take a look at this?" Right when [laughs] you're having dinner with... right? It's like, it's just part of it, and it's, it's part of our gift that we're meant to share w- with people. But, but sometimes it's off duty, you know? Not really wanting to, to engage with that. I just wanna be a regular, um, a regular human.
00:51:40,496 --> 00:51:56,185 [Speaker 1]
And, you know, I really value you for that. You're one of those people who, yeah, we can step into that space, and we can do what we need to do if we need help. But we can also just be humans and laugh over a cup of coffee or [laughs] you know-
00:51:56,185 --> 00:51:57,656 [Julia Carmen]
A bug going up your t- [laughs]
00:51:57,656 --> 00:51:57,796 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:51:57,796 --> 00:51:58,166 [Julia Carmen]
A bug going-
00:51:58,166 --> 00:52:03,266 [Speaker 1]
A bug going down my throat when I'm trying, when I'm at my key point of my talk, yeah. [laughs]
00:52:03,266 --> 00:52:03,626 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:52:05,116 --> 00:52:09,636 [Speaker 1]
Yeah. So, um, you know, how, how do you navigate your life, right? Are you-
00:52:09,636 --> 00:52:10,696 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:52:10,696 --> 00:52:16,836 [Speaker 1]
... uh, do, is your life orchestrated in a way that you're doing things that you love to do, or is your life-
00:52:16,836 --> 00:52:16,866 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:52:16,866 --> 00:52:20,756 [Speaker 1]
... orchestrated in a way that you're doing things that you feel you have to do? Um-
00:52:20,756 --> 00:52:21,146 [Julia Carmen]
Right
00:52:21,146 --> 00:52:30,676 [Speaker 1]
... and I feel blessed to have created a life that I get, for the most part, there's not a lot of have tos, right?
00:52:30,676 --> 00:52:30,856 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:52:30,856 --> 00:52:41,116 [Speaker 1]
There's most want tos in my life. And if something isn't working or is draining me, I know I have the power to change it-
00:52:41,116 --> 00:52:41,366 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:52:41,366 --> 00:52:54,496 [Speaker 1]
... and shift and move. And, um, and I think this is the wisdom of age as well. We, you know, the, the, the older that you get, the more evidence that you have that you can actually manifest what you want, right? 'Cause this move-
00:52:54,496 --> 00:52:54,606 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:52:54,606 --> 00:52:57,116 [Speaker 1]
... from Ireland and shifting my, my-
00:52:57,116 --> 00:52:57,126 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:52:57,126 --> 00:53:04,016 [Speaker 1]
... job a little bit and to more writing and just trusting that that's going to work. Of course-
00:53:04,016 --> 00:53:04,026 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:53:04,026 --> 00:53:06,056 [Speaker 1]
... this can bring the doubts-
00:53:06,056 --> 00:53:06,086 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:53:06,086 --> 00:53:07,246 [Speaker 1]
... of, oh, is this gonna work?
00:53:08,296 --> 00:53:11,826 [Speaker 1]
And then, you know, but my inner best friend, as I call her, comes to me and says,
00:53:12,856 --> 00:53:19,756 [Speaker 1]
"Uh, how many times have you made major changes in your life, Julie? And, uh, how many successes do we have? I think we're... You know, you've been-
00:53:19,756 --> 00:53:19,766 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah
00:53:19,766 --> 00:53:23,796 [Speaker 1]
... a success with all your major changes." So I think if you make a major change-
00:53:23,796 --> 00:53:23,806 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:53:23,806 --> 00:53:27,376 [Speaker 1]
... the odds are, this is where the scientific brain helps, [laughs] the odds are-
00:53:27,376 --> 00:53:27,486 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:53:27,486 --> 00:53:31,096 [Speaker 1]
... from the evidence, it's gonna be okay. Yeah. [laughs]
00:53:31,096 --> 00:53:41,896 [Julia Carmen]
Amen. So talking about that, just saying that right there, what is your next book? I know you have plenty books in you. So what, what are you working on now?
00:53:43,116 --> 00:54:31,668 [Speaker 1]
My next book is a, a solo book of, of my approach to family constellations. And, um, it, I just actually this morning put all the chapters into one manuscript, um, that I'm editing. So it's pretty close to publishing. I'm hoping to get it out within the next few months. And so that's on the family constellation work, and I've written it. Did you ever read The Celestine Prophecy? That's one that's been around for a while, right? And so remember the first book. I mean, that was one of the books that changed my life, Celestine Prophecy. And he wrote one version of it, James Redfield, I think is his name. He wrote one book w- of running around the jungles of Peru as they were discovering all these principles of the prophecy, and then he wrote a manual, like a study manu- guide of these are the principles and this is what it is. So-
00:54:31,668 --> 00:54:52,808 [Speaker 1]
I used that as my inspiration and created this family constellation book as, that's based on these retreats I used to do in Bali, uh, pre-global shutdown, um, where we'd go to Bali and do family constellations for a week, and it was just magic on that land. And so the book follows,
00:54:54,448 --> 00:56:15,268 [Speaker 1]
uh, the two characters, Eve, the main facilitator, who is the now version of me, and her, um, her helper, Jules, which is the version of me that was just discovering family constellation work. And they're having conversations about the work, and it was just so beautiful for me to write in a reflective way of where I am now and where I was then. Um, and then the book goes into the, the retreat. So you have a point of view chapter of, let's say, you know, the woman with depression, and you feel what it's like, her world, her inner world. And then the next chapter is her constellation, uh, as we describe the movements of the family soul. So, you know, 'cause I really wanted to make... I have so many iterations and drafts of this book that are just so boring and so clinical and technical. And to put it into a story, into a retreat in Bali, um, I'm just really proud and thrilled and, um... Yeah, so right now I'm just putting the final polishes, touches on that, uh, talking to some publishers to get that out. Um, and, um, and then I also have a chapter that I've written for a friend's collaborative book, um, that is called Good Grief, and that will be coming out in, uh, September. And so I wrote a chapter for her book about how being a womb twin and suffering my loss
00:56:16,428 --> 00:56:54,248 [Speaker 1]
in the womb before I even come into life, and how that grief and loss shaped my life in a way with the same idea of the Om La La of, you know, it's the same idea of, wow, I can live my, my life feeling like I'm half, having lost a twin in the womb, or I can embrace it as this amazing superpower [laughs] 'cause I'm twins in one body, right? Um, and so how do we take the challenges and, and look at how it's shaped my life? And it actually helped me create Consciousness Medicine, the work that I do and, and teach, the idea of
00:56:55,728 --> 00:57:11,737 [Speaker 1]
looking for the life force energy across the, the body matrix, physical, energetic, emotional, ancestral, and spiritual, and bringing life force energy into the body matrix. Because when you shine the light, the cockroaches run, right? When you shine the light [laughs]
00:57:11,737 --> 00:57:12,038 [Julia Carmen]
[laughs]
00:57:12,038 --> 00:57:13,888 [Speaker 1]
... the issues show up.
00:57:13,888 --> 00:57:14,188 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah.
00:57:14,188 --> 00:57:14,428 [Speaker 1]
Right?
00:57:14,428 --> 00:57:14,538 [Julia Carmen]
They sure do.
00:57:14,538 --> 00:57:15,508 [Speaker 1]
The shadows get bigger.
00:57:15,508 --> 00:57:15,648 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm.
00:57:15,648 --> 00:57:40,838 [Speaker 1]
And so it's an approach where instead of looking for the problem, we bring in as much of the expansion and desired state as, as possible, and then the issues are gonna be so much easier to see and find and shift because you're already in that more positive place. So, um, yeah. And then another book on Consciousness Medicine. Uh, so I'm really this
00:57:41,848 --> 00:57:43,888 [Speaker 1]
really, really focused on-
00:57:43,888 --> 00:57:44,068 [Julia Carmen]
Mm-hmm
00:57:44,068 --> 00:57:45,888 [Speaker 1]
... um, creating a life that supports
00:57:47,008 --> 00:57:59,458 [Speaker 1]
writing, um, which I'm absolutely loving, and this milestone to know that it's possible. Yes, it's possible. I can publish a book, right? I can get something out there. [laughs]
00:57:59,458 --> 00:58:00,728 [Julia Carmen]
Right? Yeah.
00:58:00,728 --> 00:58:09,488 [Speaker 1]
I know that seems like, yeah, yeah, yeah, of course, Julie, you can. But, you know, sometimes we have our doubts. Yeah. [laughs]
00:58:09,488 --> 00:58:17,928 [Julia Carmen]
Well, it, it's what you shared, which is, like, oh 101 being a human, our brain is constantly scanning for danger.
00:58:19,288 --> 00:59:27,728 [Julia Carmen]
Yeah. And it's just trying to take care of us. And basically what you're saying is we're more than that. That's just our, you know, it's our beautiful body trying to take care of us, period. And then finding our own way of being through the stillness of self and, and the hu-woman self of being, and then you see. And then we, uh, I call it, you know, then I get a little lost. Personally, I get a little... I go, "Oh, okay. Huh." And then the stillness comes in, and then there you go. You know, it's a, it's not a, like... It, y- y- y- y- the word enlightenment kind of like, um, just nothing on anything but everything, is that the interesting part of what I find, like, I laugh sometimes, is that we are already enlightened beings within, and it's the stillness within to sh- see what you were just sharing, that light. Yeah. And mira those cockroaches will always be there, as you know, because they're part of the ecosystem. Yeah. So they're just saying, "Hey, check this out. We're going bye."
00:59:27,728 --> 00:59:28,437 [Speaker 1]
[laughs]
00:59:28,437 --> 01:00:21,588 [Julia Carmen]
"We'll be back. But [laughs] maybe not as many of us, but we'll be back because we're here just to, you know, help you on this journey." Yeah. That's it. They're an assistance in the ecosystem of being, of humans, yeah. That we weren't dropped into, on this particular planet or solar system to struggle. Life is a gift. Every morning we wake up, it's a gift, right, mija? And then we get to say, "Ooh, let me open up this book." [laughs] Or, "Julie just got a new book out. Ooh. Oh, what is this?" Yeah. It's there. The answers are there always. Yeah. So I'm gonna start wrapping this up, Ms. Julie Williams. We will have your, all your information in the show notes, but you can share that now if you wa- would like to. Go for it. Where can they get ahold of Ms. Julie Williams?
01:00:23,068 --> 01:00:54,488 [Speaker 1]
My website, best place, uh, www.consciousness-medicine.com, and that has everything, podcasts, social media, um, everything you need to know. It'll also be in the, the show notes as well that people can find. And, um, but I'd love to just leave you with a quote. It's a closing quote from the book actually, and I think it really is what we're talking about here as well, which is, "Everything we seek already lives within us. True healing is the journey back home."
01:00:55,568 --> 01:01:09,978 [Julia Carmen]
Wow. Well, you know what, mija? I'm gonna leave that there. Thank you so much for being on the show. We will have more. Did y'all hear that? She's got more books coming out, so we're gonna have to keep having her come back. [laughs] Thank you so much for joining us.
01:01:09,978 --> 01:01:13,008 [Speaker 1]
Thank you. It's great. Oh, thank you for having me. It's always a pleasure to sit with you, Julia.
01:01:15,708 --> 01:01:43,808 [Julia Carmen]
Mirale. Thank you so much. Muchas gracias, Julie Williams, for this conversation. Her book, Om La La: The Power of Positivity guidebook, is out now wherever books are sold. You'll find her practice, Consciousness Medicine, and her podcast, Healing Codes, consciousness-medicine.com. Julie left me with this, and I want to leave it with you too:
01:01:45,208 --> 01:02:17,268 [Julia Carmen]
"Everything we seek already lives within us. True healing is the journey back home." Until next time. Yo soy Julia Carmen. Muchas gracias. Mucho, muchas gracias. Y amo to you all. Until we meet again, adiós. Amen. [outro music]
