00:00:00.239 --> 00:00:02.319
I pray that this will not be forgotten.
00:00:02.479 --> 00:00:03.600
It can't be forgotten.
00:00:03.680 --> 00:00:04.959
It can't be diminished.
00:00:05.200 --> 00:00:07.599
It shouldn't be swept under the table.
00:00:07.839 --> 00:00:11.679
This is one of those days that changes the course of history.
00:00:12.160 --> 00:00:18.399
And I fear that as we get away from it, that that that gets lost.
00:00:18.480 --> 00:00:20.239
That gets gets lessened.
00:00:30.800 --> 00:00:39.119
So why would two guys leave comfortable jobs, move across the country, and start a business in an industry they don't know, a place they don't know?
00:00:39.280 --> 00:00:40.640
And could it be successful?
00:00:40.880 --> 00:00:42.560
We're Dale and Brian Carnegie.
00:00:42.719 --> 00:00:46.399
Join us as we share our story and inspire you to become people of impact.
00:00:46.880 --> 00:00:50.000
Welcome to the Impact Without Limits podcast.
00:00:55.359 --> 00:00:59.119
Hey everybody, welcome back to the Impact Without Limits Podcast.
00:00:59.359 --> 00:01:01.759
This is Dale Carnegie here, sitting with my brother Brian.
00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:02.880
Hey everybody, welcome back.
00:01:03.200 --> 00:01:05.760
Still donning our patriotic gear.
00:01:06.719 --> 00:01:10.000
Today we are we're doing a special episode.
00:01:10.480 --> 00:01:12.799
And this is the first episode of the month.
00:01:12.959 --> 00:01:17.200
Usually we do our special episodes on the last episode of the month.
00:01:17.439 --> 00:01:17.680
Right.
00:01:17.920 --> 00:01:19.680
So we actually just had a special episode.
00:01:20.159 --> 00:01:21.200
We did, back to back.
00:01:22.000 --> 00:01:23.280
The deliverance day, the call to run.
00:01:24.799 --> 00:01:27.040
And we are again, we're flipping.
00:01:27.200 --> 00:01:28.560
This is there's a lot of connections here.
00:01:28.640 --> 00:01:33.599
This is another special episode at the beginning of the month, but it is a remember, right?
00:01:33.920 --> 00:01:37.120
And we're remembering 9-11.
00:01:37.359 --> 00:01:44.560
And so here we are, four days away from the 25th anniversary.
00:01:45.519 --> 00:01:46.400
That's crazy.
00:01:46.640 --> 00:01:47.519
Is that amazing?
00:01:47.840 --> 00:01:52.480
So I'm gonna do my date math.
00:01:53.439 --> 00:01:55.200
I was born in 65.
00:01:55.680 --> 00:01:58.079
25 years before I was born.
00:01:59.120 --> 00:02:02.480
We hadn't even entered World War II.
00:02:03.760 --> 00:02:04.640
That's crazy.
00:02:05.280 --> 00:02:06.719
Pearl Harbor hadn't happened.
00:02:06.879 --> 00:02:17.039
So at my birth, I was closer to Pearl Harbor than our babies today are to 9-11.
00:02:17.280 --> 00:02:17.599
Yeah.
00:02:18.080 --> 00:02:25.360
And I can just tell you when when I was a kid, World War II and Pearl Harbor seemed like some distant event.
00:02:25.520 --> 00:02:25.680
I know.
00:02:25.919 --> 00:02:26.479
I don't know why.
00:02:26.639 --> 00:02:27.439
I don't know why that is.
00:02:27.520 --> 00:02:35.520
And I kids today, maybe you feel that same way if you're you know uh under 25, under 20.
00:02:36.000 --> 00:02:43.360
Um maybe you're you feel like that is so far in the past.
00:02:43.520 --> 00:02:45.280
It is, let me tell you, it isn't.
00:02:45.520 --> 00:02:46.240
Well, how about this?
00:02:46.400 --> 00:02:48.000
If we're doing date math.
00:02:49.199 --> 00:02:53.360
25 years, I was 25 years old when 9-11 happened.
00:02:53.520 --> 00:02:57.919
So that is half-year-old, that is the midpoint of my life right now.
00:02:58.080 --> 00:03:00.800
It's been to the half-life of Brian's life is 9-11.
00:03:00.960 --> 00:03:02.000
It was 9-11.
00:03:02.800 --> 00:03:06.319
And I mean, I remember that day well.
00:03:06.639 --> 00:03:41.199
Yeah, so I want to start and just just say that we want to honor all the people who lost their lives that day, both those that were in the buildings in the towers, those that were on the plane, Flight 93, those that were on the ground at the Pentagon, um, and then of those brave men and women, the uh first responders, the rescuers, who many of whom died in an effort to save the people.
00:03:41.360 --> 00:03:43.599
I think most that happened mostly at the buildings.
00:03:43.759 --> 00:03:46.639
I don't know, maybe maybe it happened some at the Pentagon too.
00:03:46.719 --> 00:03:53.360
But you know, we pray that God continues to be with their families, and that God continues to protect their memories.
00:03:54.080 --> 00:03:58.800
And um look, I pray that this will not be forgotten.
00:03:59.680 --> 00:04:04.719
It can't be forgotten, it can't be diminished, it shouldn't be swept under the table.
00:04:05.840 --> 00:04:12.319
This was a uh this was one of those days that changes the course of history.
00:04:13.360 --> 00:04:21.360
And um I fear that as we get away from it, that that that gets lost, that gets gets lessened.
00:04:21.759 --> 00:04:27.279
Yeah, and you have you know, one of the slogans that came out of that uh was never forget, right?
00:04:27.360 --> 00:04:30.160
And you'd have pictures of the towers and never forget.
00:04:30.560 --> 00:04:34.560
And I do fear that the generations today are forgetting.
00:04:34.879 --> 00:04:36.319
Let me tell you who forgot.
00:04:36.639 --> 00:04:37.279
New York City.
00:04:37.600 --> 00:04:38.959
New York City forgot.
00:04:40.160 --> 00:04:43.680
They elected Mondumy as their mayor.
00:04:44.959 --> 00:04:45.759
Oh my goodness.
00:04:45.920 --> 00:05:00.560
I mean, could you can you imagine if on September 12th of last year or of 2001 somebody said, hey, in 25 years, you're gonna have a character like Mondummy be the the mayor of New York City.
00:05:00.639 --> 00:05:01.920
I did say you're an idiot.
00:05:02.000 --> 00:05:04.000
Uh there's no way that would ever happen.
00:05:04.319 --> 00:05:05.199
But we forget.
00:05:05.360 --> 00:05:09.040
We don't just forget, we get trained to forget.
00:05:09.839 --> 00:05:12.560
Um so what a crime that is.
00:05:12.800 --> 00:05:17.759
But yeah, we want to remember so we never forget.
00:05:18.240 --> 00:05:26.399
And 9-11 was one of the very worst national tragedies we've ever experienced.
00:05:26.639 --> 00:05:29.199
I mean, it was the biggest attack on American soil.
00:05:29.439 --> 00:05:33.199
Um it just it's awful.
00:05:33.519 --> 00:05:37.839
However, it also displayed some of the greatness of America, right?
00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:39.839
You talked about the first responders.
00:05:40.879 --> 00:05:41.920
People going in.
00:05:42.079 --> 00:05:51.759
We there's an organization, Tunnel to Towers, right, that um takes care of first responders and now even military veterans and people, their families that are left behind.
00:05:51.920 --> 00:06:02.399
But the idea that they were actually digging tunnels through this rubble to get to these towers to try to find people and save people, crazy.
00:06:02.560 --> 00:06:24.720
And then you think about the the bravery of of Todd Beamer and the guys on the flight 93, that rather than let another plane, there was already one that hit the Pentagon, this one was arguably was headed toward the White House, or somewhere else in DC, and these guys found out what was happening, and they take down the hijackers.
00:06:24.800 --> 00:06:27.600
Yeah, they're like, listen, we're gonna go down.
00:06:27.839 --> 00:06:28.480
It's not gonna happen.
00:06:28.720 --> 00:06:32.879
And so the famous line from Beamer is let's roll.
00:06:33.199 --> 00:06:33.600
Let's roll.
00:06:33.839 --> 00:06:33.920
Right?
00:06:34.079 --> 00:06:35.279
He says, Let's roll.
00:06:35.759 --> 00:06:36.959
It's a DC talk song.
00:06:37.199 --> 00:06:53.040
And and these guys, they they're texting or you know, finding out from their family what's happening, and they're like, listen, if we're gonna die, let's at least go down fighting for others and saving other people's lives.
00:06:53.279 --> 00:06:55.439
And I mean, my goodness.
00:06:55.759 --> 00:06:56.879
I can't imagine.
00:06:56.959 --> 00:06:59.759
I want to believe that I would be one of those guys.
00:07:00.000 --> 00:07:01.680
Yeah, and I think that I would be.
00:07:01.920 --> 00:07:03.360
That's one of those things in the moment.
00:07:03.600 --> 00:07:18.800
In the moment, you you would rise up because I know your core, I know your beliefs, I know what you're you know, what you're made of, and you don't imagine you could do it, but in that moment, God gives you the strength and and you would rise up.
00:07:19.199 --> 00:07:22.000
I I hope and pray that we're never in that situation.
00:07:22.399 --> 00:07:29.839
And we had, I don't remember the flight number, but the flight that uh crashed into the Pentagon and uh everything that happened there.
00:07:30.240 --> 00:07:38.800
Oddly enough, I am good friends with somebody who was one of the first responders to the Pentagon.
00:07:39.759 --> 00:07:41.279
Jesse Johnson Brower.
00:07:41.439 --> 00:07:41.839
Yeah.
00:07:42.079 --> 00:07:51.040
He was uh stationed down at uh I can't remember the name of the facility right there.
00:07:52.000 --> 00:07:55.040
But he he was the first first call.
00:07:55.279 --> 00:08:02.480
He was a young man, fairly new to the to the army, and and he was on his ground zero.
00:08:03.279 --> 00:08:14.319
Um bringing people, bodies, uh parts, uh, you know, like uh parts of the bill, whatever, just clearing the the space.
00:08:14.879 --> 00:08:28.959
And oddly enough, I'm good friends with one of the first people, citizens, who were on the ground at Flight 93, which and I'm sorry, it's long day, and I still got my kidneys on stuff.
00:08:29.199 --> 00:08:33.200
What's the uh what's the name of the the town we're gonna ask?
00:08:33.600 --> 00:08:34.240
Can you look that up?
00:08:34.399 --> 00:08:37.519
I I know it, I'm not thinking of it, so Victoria look it up for us.
00:08:37.759 --> 00:08:45.200
But Tony Priscaro, he was he's a friend of ours from NASCAR, but he lived in Pittsburgh.
00:08:45.440 --> 00:08:48.480
He did some um media reporting and things.
00:08:49.279 --> 00:08:50.480
Shanksville PA.
00:08:50.639 --> 00:08:51.279
Yep.
00:08:51.919 --> 00:08:55.279
And he heard what was happening.
00:08:55.360 --> 00:08:58.799
I don't know if somebody called him or he was in the area.
00:08:59.039 --> 00:09:04.159
He saw that I can't remember what, but he got there before they even had the clashing tape and things set up.
00:09:04.240 --> 00:09:05.840
Yeah, he was one of the first people there.
00:09:05.919 --> 00:09:11.600
So we we had I've got two people who were like right there, right as it happened.
00:09:11.679 --> 00:09:19.679
And um kind of um that's tough listen to some of the stories and and some of the things that happened there.
00:09:20.159 --> 00:09:27.440
And we were consultants that had business in New York, had been back and forth to New York quite a bit during that time frame.
00:09:27.600 --> 00:09:36.159
And I remember we were there, it was six months after 9-11 when they lit the lights of the towers.
00:09:36.480 --> 00:09:55.360
And we were we were there for I remember walking down and they were still like digging, digging and dealing with debris, excavation, and there were all those signs, and oh, that was just that was a gut-wrenching moment to look at that awful site.
00:09:55.840 --> 00:09:58.960
But then to see the the lights come up and the memorial.
00:09:59.279 --> 00:10:02.399
I think the lights, Brian, that might have been our second trip to New York.
00:10:02.480 --> 00:10:07.039
I I think we might have been there prior to that because I remember it six months.
00:10:07.120 --> 00:10:11.360
That would have been September, October, November, December, January, February.
00:10:11.440 --> 00:10:12.159
That would have been February.
00:10:12.240 --> 00:10:12.720
That was the trip.
00:10:13.039 --> 00:10:16.799
That was the trip with the mark and Tishman Spire and all of that.
00:10:16.879 --> 00:10:35.519
But I think we were there one other time before that, but just because I was by that site multiple times, just to see the size, the footprint that was left there, and to to just try and get a grasp of the magnitude of what had happened.
00:10:35.840 --> 00:10:40.159
Have you been back to have you seen the memorial, the 9-11 memorial at Ground Zero?
00:10:40.240 --> 00:10:40.960
It's amazing.
00:10:41.120 --> 00:10:43.120
They did they did an incredible job with it.
00:10:43.360 --> 00:10:45.919
I mean, first of all, they built the Freedom Tower, right?
00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:50.799
So they built a tower larger than the World Trade Center's buildings were.
00:10:51.279 --> 00:10:56.480
Um kind of like, you know, you're you're not gonna take away from us, you're not gonna scare us.
00:10:56.639 --> 00:11:08.080
But then the footprint of the actual buildings, they made like these reflecting ponds where water's falling in, and you just see how massive these structures were, and then they have all the names.
00:11:08.240 --> 00:11:11.919
And oh my goodness, what an amazing, amazing place.
00:11:12.159 --> 00:11:18.159
I remember being there and seeing all the boards with all the faces and all the names.
00:11:18.399 --> 00:11:22.480
Have you seen please call if you have any information on?
00:11:22.799 --> 00:11:26.639
And and it's just it all comes to life.
00:11:26.799 --> 00:11:31.279
It's like real people, real faces, real families.
00:11:31.600 --> 00:11:34.480
Um just it was awful.
00:11:34.559 --> 00:11:39.440
And you know, it's one of those things you say uh, you know, you always remember where you were at.
00:11:40.159 --> 00:11:45.600
I was sitting at my home office uh there uh at uh Lake Tomahawk.
00:11:45.759 --> 00:12:00.720
I was sitting at my desk in the blue room, and um I think it was Jim called me and said, Hey, did you did you hear a plane hit one of the towers?
00:12:00.960 --> 00:12:02.960
I'm like, I kind of chuckled.
00:12:03.120 --> 00:12:04.480
I'm like, what are you what are you talking about?
00:12:04.559 --> 00:12:06.879
He said, I don't know, but a plane hit one of the towers.
00:12:06.960 --> 00:12:18.240
Um and I'm picturing like a single engine biplane, and there's some pilot, doesn't know what he's doing, kind of gets off course, wanders around and and hits a tower.
00:12:18.559 --> 00:12:24.399
And I almost kind of kind of chuckled, like I how's a guy run into the tower?
00:12:24.480 --> 00:12:25.759
How's that even happen?
00:12:26.000 --> 00:12:31.200
And then while we're talking about it, he says, Oh my goodness, another plane hit the tower.
00:12:31.360 --> 00:12:33.440
I'm like, what in the world is going on?
00:12:33.919 --> 00:12:36.559
And all instantly, what are you thinking?
00:12:36.639 --> 00:12:37.840
You're thinking we're under attack.
00:12:38.480 --> 00:12:39.759
Well, we were under attack.
00:12:40.000 --> 00:12:54.000
We were and so I ran downstairs and I kicked on the TV just in time to see them replaying the second plane hitting the building, and and like just chills, chills all over the body.
00:12:54.159 --> 00:13:00.960
Like, like, oh my goodness, this is a serious, serious event.
00:13:01.759 --> 00:13:23.840
And um, we had Lori, our kids were were in um school up in Columbiana, and Lori jumped in the car and drove up and picked up Derek and Kaylin from school, brought them home, and you're just glued to the TV just watching.
00:13:23.919 --> 00:13:34.240
And and then you go from the towers being hit and watching what's happening there, then a plane, you hear a plane goes down in Shanksville, which is not far from where we live.
00:13:34.799 --> 00:13:40.639
And you're starting to think, okay, there's an organized attack, and we live by we lived by a nuclear power plant.
00:13:40.720 --> 00:13:43.600
And you start thinking, oh my goodness, they're gonna attack nuclear power plant.
00:13:43.759 --> 00:13:45.039
What's gonna happen?
00:13:45.200 --> 00:13:53.120
Uh, and then there's the attack on the Pentagon, and it was just that that was a chilling day.
00:13:53.279 --> 00:14:02.720
Um Derek had a football game that afternoon at six o'clock up in Ravenna, five o'clock up in Ravenna.
00:14:03.279 --> 00:14:13.919
And we were packing up, heading up to the game, and and they called, it's like games are canceled, and everything's canceled, and um just crazy.
00:14:14.799 --> 00:14:18.960
Yeah, I was I was in Houston and I was uh we were doing consulting work time.
00:14:19.120 --> 00:14:28.960
I was at a client's, and I remember I was driving to the office from the hotel, and Angie called and said, Hey, did you see a plane just hit the World Trade Center?
00:14:29.360 --> 00:14:34.960
And in the moment, I was thinking the World Trade Center was in Chicago, and I'm like, in Chicago?
00:14:35.120 --> 00:14:36.240
She's like, No, New York City.
00:14:36.320 --> 00:14:37.440
And I'm like, wait, what?
00:14:37.679 --> 00:14:41.279
And she's telling me about this plane hitting, and I'm thinking the same thing as you.
00:14:41.440 --> 00:14:42.559
Is this some like accident?
00:14:42.720 --> 00:14:43.600
How does somebody miss it?
00:14:44.879 --> 00:14:45.679
Home pilot.
00:14:46.000 --> 00:14:56.720
And so I, as we're talking, I'm kind of, I mean, I'm almost to the office, it's a short drive, and I get to the office and I'm I'm walking in and like it's on all the TVs, right?
00:14:56.960 --> 00:15:05.600
And and I'm sitting there with these people that I know but don't know really well, and and everybody's like trying to figure out how did this accident happen, right?
00:15:05.759 --> 00:15:09.360
Because the first one hits, it's it's 8 46 in a.m.
00:15:09.519 --> 00:15:11.679
eastern time, it hits.
00:15:13.360 --> 00:15:24.799
You're as we're watching, like the the cameras are showing, you see the second plane hit, and you're like, oh my goodness, that is an intentional attack.
00:15:25.039 --> 00:15:45.039
And just that realization, and then like you said, then the the the Pentagon, and then the plane goes down, and then they're tracking all the other it's oh my goodness, what I I just remember just that we were standing there in this office building in Houston, and all of us just in a conference room, just staring at this TV.
00:15:45.200 --> 00:15:48.000
Nobody's speaking, everybody's watching this.
00:15:48.559 --> 00:15:50.720
And you just what's going on?
00:15:51.039 --> 00:15:55.120
And I'm just like, guys, I gotta go home.
00:15:55.519 --> 00:15:55.759
Yeah.
00:15:56.000 --> 00:15:58.879
And they're like, well, they're shutting down air travel.
00:15:58.960 --> 00:16:00.159
You can't go home.
00:16:00.480 --> 00:16:02.799
And I'm like, I got a rental car?
00:16:03.120 --> 00:16:03.840
I'm going home.
00:16:04.080 --> 00:16:05.120
Yeah, because everything was shut down.
00:16:05.600 --> 00:16:08.879
Yeah, they shut the airports down for I don't know, it was at least three days.
00:16:09.039 --> 00:16:11.200
And so I just got in the car and I drove.
00:16:11.279 --> 00:16:17.360
And and I again, you don't know what's going on, but you're thinking you want to be by family.
00:16:17.759 --> 00:16:18.159
Right?
00:16:18.559 --> 00:16:22.240
And I've got a wife and and two young kids at home.
00:16:22.399 --> 00:16:27.679
Like I need to be there to I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I want to be there to protect them.
00:16:27.759 --> 00:16:29.360
And well, I know what you're gonna do.
00:16:29.440 --> 00:16:31.200
You're gonna rise up like a militia, man.
00:16:31.519 --> 00:16:32.399
Like a minute, man.
00:16:32.639 --> 00:16:32.960
Yeah.
00:16:33.519 --> 00:16:42.960
But that feeling of just uncertainty, of chaos, of what's coming next.
00:16:43.679 --> 00:16:46.080
It just I will never forget that.
00:16:46.159 --> 00:16:47.600
I will never forget that moment.
00:16:47.759 --> 00:16:56.639
And and again, as as awful as that was, at the same time, seeing I honestly think that's the last time I saw America rally together.
00:16:56.879 --> 00:16:57.120
Yeah.
00:16:57.279 --> 00:17:00.799
I right the response was unity.
00:17:01.120 --> 00:17:02.159
A national day of prayer.
00:17:02.559 --> 00:17:04.400
The response was uh yep, right?
00:17:04.720 --> 00:17:05.440
Call to prayer.
00:17:05.599 --> 00:17:08.000
I I remember Reliance on God.
00:17:08.240 --> 00:17:08.720
Yep.
00:17:09.039 --> 00:17:11.359
It was America first.
00:17:12.000 --> 00:17:14.720
It was proud to be an American.
00:17:20.559 --> 00:17:32.720
And George Bush getting out the bullhorn, standing on the rubble, and saying, you know, we won't forget this, and the people that did this are are gonna pay.
00:17:32.880 --> 00:17:38.160
I mean, that you just you everybody was an American, right?
00:17:38.319 --> 00:17:44.720
Everybody was was just realizing, hey, we gotta we gotta fight an evil.
00:17:45.039 --> 00:17:47.119
Wait, well, it's it's it's like this, Brian.
00:17:47.279 --> 00:17:54.079
Um we talk about light shines brightest in the darkness, right?
00:17:54.640 --> 00:17:55.200
Yeah.
00:17:56.079 --> 00:18:14.000
And unfortunately, in our lives, both personally in business, and then as a country, you sometimes get so used to the light that you don't see the beacon, the shining light, the that centerpiece.
00:18:14.480 --> 00:18:41.440
And when it gets dark, and it got dark on 9-11, then what shows up is that shining light, that we are a Christian nation, that we are one nation under God, that we do celebrate our country and American exceptionalism, American uniqueness, the foundations we have, the principles that make us different in America than any other country in any other world.
00:18:41.519 --> 00:18:45.119
And all that becomes so evident because it's so dark.
00:18:45.599 --> 00:18:48.720
In 2001, 2002, 2000.
00:18:48.960 --> 00:18:53.680
Do you do you remember the like you the games where they restarted the game events?
00:18:54.000 --> 00:18:58.400
And everybody's belting out the national anthem and everybody's wearing patriotic stuff.
00:18:58.880 --> 00:19:00.799
You have you have Pat Tillman, right?
00:19:00.880 --> 00:19:05.200
He's running onto the NFL football player, running onto the field, carrying a flag, leading.
00:19:05.359 --> 00:19:09.200
He leaves the NFL and enlists in the military.
00:19:09.359 --> 00:19:09.519
Yeah.
00:19:09.759 --> 00:19:11.519
Ends up dying in service.
00:19:12.240 --> 00:19:28.480
But I mean, I the that's you talk about the values and you talk about the Christian heritage and what makes America great, the morals and values behind it, but you see it lived out in those moments where people are willing to put country and others above self, right?
00:19:28.799 --> 00:19:30.319
We talked about the first responders.
00:19:30.400 --> 00:19:39.759
We talked about the people on the plane, but then it was people volunteering, you know, whatever they could do, whatever they could give, whatever they could help to raise money.
00:19:39.920 --> 00:19:49.200
Like you talked about the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the incredible things that they did then and still do today to take care of those families.
00:19:49.359 --> 00:19:51.759
Uh people that enlisted in the military, right?
00:19:51.920 --> 00:19:56.480
I mean, Americans didn't think, oh my goodness, there's going to be a war and shrink back.
00:19:56.640 --> 00:20:00.400
You had people rushing to volunteer.
00:20:01.200 --> 00:20:08.640
It just was an awful, horrendous moment, but it allowed for the greatness of America to shine.
00:20:09.680 --> 00:20:11.359
In the darkness, the light shines.
00:20:11.440 --> 00:20:35.759
And unfortunately, over the 25 years, the darkness just kind of slowly uh, you know, that stark darkness goes away, and that darkness kind of blends into everyday life, and you don't see it, and it starts seeping into our cultures, it starts seeping into our politics, into our society, into our beliefs.
00:20:36.400 --> 00:20:42.319
I mean, we have people today who think socialism is a good idea in America.
00:20:42.880 --> 00:20:44.079
It's crazy.
00:20:44.319 --> 00:20:45.599
It's insane.
00:20:46.160 --> 00:20:49.279
And, you know, I'm not calling for a dark day.
00:20:49.359 --> 00:20:52.000
I sure hope we don't have any more dark days like that.
00:20:52.240 --> 00:20:57.119
What I'm calling for maybe is we need to shine the light that much brighter.
00:20:57.440 --> 00:21:10.799
We need to teach and learn, remember, and teach why America is so special, what makes us so special, and how important it is that we preserve it.
00:21:10.960 --> 00:21:20.960
Um, because if we don't do that, we're either going to lose America or it's going to take another very dark day to bring that all to light.
00:21:21.200 --> 00:21:23.680
And I sure hope that isn't what it takes.
00:21:24.160 --> 00:21:33.759
No, and I think our our hope for this episode is just one, we just wanted to pause and reflect and remember the lives lost and the families impacted there.
00:21:33.839 --> 00:21:37.839
Uh, but two, remember the greatness of America that responded.
00:21:37.920 --> 00:21:51.599
And and you know, we we talked about it last week with Deliverance Day, the idea that you you have a uh an Ebenezer, you have a an artifact set, you have a date that you memorialize, you have something that you remember the past.
00:21:52.000 --> 00:21:56.720
Because if you don't remember the past, you're doomed to repeat the history.
00:21:56.960 --> 00:21:59.759
And you've been talking about it as we've gone through this.
00:22:00.240 --> 00:22:00.880
season.
00:22:01.519 --> 00:22:03.440
You you you have to remember.
00:22:04.079 --> 00:22:04.480
Yep.
00:22:04.720 --> 00:22:06.480
And you can't remember if you don't know.
00:22:06.559 --> 00:22:15.039
And unfortunately, I think we're in a period where, I mean, let's face it, uh, you know, half of our kids were born after that date.
00:22:15.519 --> 00:22:20.720
None of my kids like remember it because they were you know too young.
00:22:20.880 --> 00:22:24.160
And a lot of the people today, it's just a historical event.
00:22:24.559 --> 00:22:25.200
It's a marker.
00:22:25.759 --> 00:22:33.359
And you know I think back like you said for World War II for me it was like remembering you know the Vietnam War or something before I was born.
00:22:33.440 --> 00:22:35.440
Like I don't remember it was just history.
00:22:35.519 --> 00:22:39.680
It was just you see a newsreel it doesn't have the same impact if you haven't lived through it.
00:22:39.759 --> 00:22:46.240
And so I think one of the things we want to do is just call people to remember and you don't look into it.
00:22:46.960 --> 00:23:01.920
There's documentaries out there and it's difficult and I know it's hard to watch and I I'll be honest I don't love watching those but man if you don't know that story and and what that 25 years there will be a lot available.
00:23:02.559 --> 00:23:05.680
I'm going to hope most of it is good and accurate.
00:23:05.759 --> 00:23:28.960
You know how we get with a lot of our media that they can sometimes try and slant a story and not tell the truth but the reality is that was an awful day a terrible attack um a dark day but the light shone through what we have to do is keep focused on the light and and just not lose that.
00:23:29.839 --> 00:23:33.920
I had the opportunity to hear Roger Clemens speak here in Canton last week.
00:23:34.160 --> 00:23:57.839
Well not last week as the episode comes out but a few weeks ago and he was talking about being in New York when that happened and he actually was just uh being interviewed for a Netflix series or a Netflix special that's coming out so uh hopefully that'll be out here shortly but just talking about what that was like and and how sports were one of the things that we rallied around and you talked about that whether it's you know um George W.
00:23:58.000 --> 00:24:03.759
Bush throwing out a first pitch or somebody singing the national anthem but this patriotic pride it's a good thing.
00:24:04.000 --> 00:24:09.200
It's good to be proud of America and and throughout the season that's one of the things we've wanted to do.
00:24:09.839 --> 00:24:17.839
And so today uh hopefully you know as as you go into this week uh you remember the anniversary of 9-11.
00:24:18.079 --> 00:24:56.799
You commemorate it when I say do you remember I know you remember but five years ago that's when um Jesse Johnson Brower did his walk from New York City to Shanksville PA that site to the Pentagon 462 miles I think he walked in 30 days and um our team supported him we supported him with some money we supported him with supplies and and different members of our team went out and walked with him and I got to spend four days walking alongside him I had a lot of blisters to show for it.
00:24:57.200 --> 00:25:33.359
I was not trained or prepared for that walk but what an awesome thing he did to try and remember right to to create uh that that marker that says this is important I want to draw attention to it and it was just really cool to be a part of that and I walked the uh the four days leading into um Shanksville so I walked from Bedford uh before Bedford before the little ways where'd we do that field for Tim Best oh my goodness it was Centerville?
00:25:33.599 --> 00:26:26.720
No but whatever it was somewhere around there I walked into Shanksville we were there at the memorial and then um he invited us down I walked the last day as he got to the Pentagon and went down and had a ceremony there on I think it was actually on 9-11 um at the the National Cemetery just just neat and you know I I say that I wish I was doing something um as neat or memorable this year and I'm not but but that was that was just great and got to involve my kids in it just uh a you know a good way to um help keep that at the forefront of our our minds so but a shout out to Jesse for doing that and thank you for including us and you know let's keep our focus on what happened and how you come out of something like that.
00:26:27.039 --> 00:27:04.400
Yeah and again 9-11 never forget take the time to remember it commemorate it and uh for those of you that are old enough to remember it share the story with somebody that maybe is a little bit younger and doesn't know and with that uh God bless we'll see you next week God bless the USA This is the thread call me reminding you that faith looks up hope looks ahead and love looks all around to see whom it can help.
00:27:04.799 --> 00:27:06.000
Good day
