ABOUT THIS EPISODE
🚂💨 All aboard the Hotmess Express, because this week we invited a psychic onto the train and somehow she fit right in.Gen and Erika are joined by Erika’s longtime friend, Tarot Reader and Psychic Vanessa, but before bringing her into the chaos, the ladies had some catching up to do.Gen was thrilled that her daughters got to spend some quality time together at a Tame Impala concert, which naturally led to a full spiral about the absolutely criminal cost of going to concerts these days. Tickets, parking, food, drinks… at this point, attending a concert requires the financial planning of a small home purchase.Erika had her own spiral brewing after nearly calling the IHIH Spiral Line to crash out over a coworker. Because apparently someone else's emergency does not automatically become Erika's emergency. Thankfully, she composed herself long enough to keep the show moving. Then Vanessa joined the madness and got her official introduction to the IHIH chat, which is basically being thrown into the deep end and handed a microphone. The ladies talked with Vanessa about her psychic abilities, how she discovered them, and what it was like learning to embrace something she initially wanted absolutely nothing to do with. She eventually leaned into her abilities and now uses them to help people heal, all while working as a music writer in Los Angeles.Naturally, the conversation eventually went from psychic abilities to hunching ghosts and angels, because there is apparently no normal stopping point for this show. The chat had thoughts. The chat had jokes. The chat was, as always, completely ungovernable. The ladies then put Vanessa through a round of Moral Dilemmas, and let's just say her moral compass doesn't always point due north. Which means, obviously, she fits right in.Vanessa then read Gen's tarot cards, delivering an inspiring confirmation that she's on the right path. Erika squeezed in one question of her own about her new venture with Gen, and thankfully, the cards did NOT predict the arrival of Co-Host Number Three. Crisis averted. Vanessa also took questions from the chat, resulting in one spectacularly awkward moment that left the host, the audience, and probably everyone watching from home collectively wondering what the hell just happened. You'll have to watch that one unfold. And finally, the ladies wrapped things up with the Finger of the Week. Gen gave hers to Nextdoor and the neighborhood oversharers who apparently believe their entire personal lives belong on a community bulletin board. Erika gave hers to influencers doing increasingly unhinged things for clout. Get your bag, by all means, but maybe don't sacrifice your dignity for the algorithm.Vanessa's first IHIH middle finger went straight to McDonald's for not using “real” meat. The ladies may have agreed with the sentiment, but let's be honest… none of us are suddenly giving up the drive-thru.Psychic readings, moral dilemmas, ghost-hunching, awkward audience moments, and three women collectively questioning humanity.Just another completely normal night on I Hate It Here.
