Speaker 2: Roll with us.
00:01:04
Speaker 1: Chad, Kentucky's improved, but they're not one of those teams that should be coming back trailing by double digits on the road in the SEC. And that's exactly what happened this week as South Carolina loses again. And yet again, South Carolina's up like 17-0, right?
00:01:22
Speaker 2: And then we see the comeback.
00:01:25
Speaker 1: That can't happen, but I believe it did Based on the locker room starting to just kind of... If they're not throwing in the towel, they're not all the way bought in. When Beamer's talking about, man, just an excellent practice. Man, this locker room, we're tight. If you don't want to be with the group that's all together, then we're going to.
00:01:45
Speaker 2: Show you the door. Whatever.
00:01:47
Speaker 1: You can't speak things into existence if things are starting to deteriorate. I believe he had it. I don't think he's got it now. And ultimately, that's going to doom any chance... of saving what is a death march right now.
00:02:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, South Carolina has blown double-digit leads in three of their last four conference games, Hutton. They had a 30-3 lead a year ago at A & M, lost 31-30, 16-0 lead over Mississippi State. They lost 41-34, 17-0 over Kentucky at home, and lost 35-34. It felt like when that two-point conversion was called, by the way, credit the balls of Will Stein, To say, yeah, we're going to go for two in the win. And to have a play drawn up where you get a guy wide open in the back of the end zone. Beautiful job by him. Really like what he's done with that Kentucky program quickly. But it did feel like not necessarily the passing of the torch, but the torch being extinguished from one coach to the next. I agree. Take your torch and leave. You now may extinguish your flame. That's what it felt like Will Stein was saying to Shane Beamer in that moment. I like Shane Beamer. He's done some really nice things in South Carolina. There is some speculation for people that cover the program that he's going to be safe because they don't have the money for the buyout they're going to owe him and to pay another coach. So he may, by default, get another year just based on this. There's a lot of talk about just the nature of the sport now, too, where it feels like the pressure's always been there, but it feels like the toxicity of a fan base is can sour even quicker now because of the knowledge of money that's at hand for players and everything else and coaches. And you create this system where the conference is so good and so deep and there's so much parity that fans are having a hard time understanding. You might take it on the chin from one weekend to the next. Florida is a great example. The way they looked against Ole Miss, now the way they come back and get just housed on the road at Missouri. Ole Miss the week before, national story. beats Lane Kiffin in LSU, goes to Florida and gets rocked. Then suddenly they don't look nearly as good. This is going to be a week-to-week story in really not just the SEC but across the country too. I just don't see any way the way this thing is trending now for Shane Beamer in South Carolina that as an administration they could with a straight face say, yeah, we're going to keep this guy for another year. Yeah, so the toxicity from.
00:04:19
Speaker 1: The fan base, it's not just, hey, the conference is really good, so week to week you may win some lose. They've been up by double digits now in their conference games, and this is now the fourth time we've seen them fall. You just lay that out there. They're on an eight-game losing streak there. Right now, sure, I can't find the money. Considering buyouts, this is a low buyout, considering buyouts. They'll find the money if this continues. Because someone will step up and be like, I'm tired of doing this. Because where we are right now, if you don't have the buyout money for a low buyout, Chad, you don't.
00:05:01
Speaker 2: Have a chance to compete.
00:05:03
Speaker 1: And it's not like they've got a terrible roster. They have a talented roster. Because they continue to have players that are NFL worthy. That are not just NFL worthy, that are... number one, number two off the board at their position. So with that in mind, the results have to be there. And I respect Shane Beamer. I really like the guy because he takes it on the chin.
00:05:27
Speaker 2: He's honest.
00:05:28
Speaker 1: He doesn't mind a tough question. He'll answer it honestly. And he's at the podium postgame just going, yeah, look, I understand this is not good enough, but no, I haven't heard anything from the administration. I, If it's happening now, it's not going to get any better. They've got Florida coming up now. When you're dropping games to Mississippi State and Kentucky, it's not like you look at the horizon and be like, oh, we have a chance to turn this around.
00:05:55
Speaker 2: We've got Mississippi State and Kentucky coming up. No, no, no, no.
00:05:57
Speaker 1: You've already dropped those games. Up next is the juggernaut.
00:06:03
Speaker 2: If South Carolina was Vandy this year, if they were starting a talented, true freshman quarterback, If it felt like a reset, even after a disappointing last year, I think you could easily sell that to the fan base and everyone else and say, look, we like we have a quarterback. We got some young pieces are going to be really good a year from now. This is a growing season. That's going to be tough at times. We're going to stick with our guy. We believe in his mission. We believe in the message, the team. We believe in what he's done and what he will do. You could sell it at that point. Problem is they're coming off a disappointing year and they convinced Lenora Sellers to not transfer. They convince Nick Harbour to not transfer. They convince Dylan Stewart to not transfer and stay and come back for another year, who's currently not even with the team, who's suspended indefinitely after just outward disrespect towards the entire coaching staff on the sideline in front of everyone. You mix it with all those things together, and it's a tough sell because this looks like the year where South Carolina, coming in, they were a dark horse. Hey, this team could be what I thought Mississippi State could be. This year, right? The Dark Horse, they're very talented. They're veteran. They've got three dudes that are going to be high NFL draft picks possibly. This is what this team could be this year. And now falling to 0-3 in conference, staring down the barrel of a trip to the swamp, and you're going to have an angry Florida team based on John Sumrall's postgame comments after he said it was an embarrassing performance. And like a man, they've got to own the performance and admit it and move forward. It's not going to be pretty. in the swamp this week for Shane Beamer. Then the talk becomes they get a bye week after that, then they host Tennessee. So will Tennessee be facing an interim coach because the bye week's going to be in between both of them for that October 24th game? That's a big question mark. I don't know. These buyouts are extreme. He re-upped recently after that good year before last year's bad year. So it's going to cost South Carolina a ton of money.
00:08:03
Speaker 1: But in regards to the ton, it's a lot of money, but it's $ 24 million.
00:08:06
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:08:08
Speaker 1: You know, it's not the, what is it, for Lincoln Riley, who got a nice win, like 70. But it's the extreme of the opposite. If you can't afford the 20, if you're waiting on the buyout to go down by $ 2 million, then don't give the large buyouts. But it's going to happen. You know, does he make more than Vrabel? He's going to when he gets fired. We used to play that game. Does this coach make more than Braywell? Shane Bieber will. That's nuts, man. Bama, meanwhile, how about the Crimson Tide, who took care of business?
00:08:46
Speaker 3: 56-23.
00:08:47
Speaker 2: They put up 56 points on the road. This Kalen DeBoer offense with Keelan Russell, is the best in the conference right now. I'm calling it. We're over a third of the way through the season, and based on what we've seen, Alabama has the best offense in the SEC. They are going to be difficult for everyone. They are a problem for this entire conference. I think, Hutton, right now you've got three teams that have separated themselves in the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, who will play this week, Texas is the third with that win over Ohio State, and then the win on the road in Knoxville. Those are the three teams that look different and better than everyone else. LSU will have something to say about that, I think, as the year goes on. By the way, LSU at Kentucky this week, sneaky, top-notch game, and a big-time problem for LSU going on the road with what we've seen from Will Stein and Kentucky recently. I think LSU handles business in that one, but I'm putting that upper echelon. Those three, to me, are in a different league. right now than everyone else in the conference based on what we've seen so far. But also what we've seen so far is it's week to week. We really don't know. It's going to be a different story every single week, even for those teams. And of course, Oklahoma gets a chance to say their season this weekend in the Red River shootout against Texas. So a big opportunity for them.
00:10:06
Speaker 1: And Tennessee's will come up in a week from now, as long as they take care of business against Arkansas. Chad, just thoughts on Bama. The defense with the turnovers that they were able to take advantage of set up that offense in that game.
00:10:18
Speaker 2: That was.
00:10:19
Speaker 1: Man, just not meeting the moment. Mississippi State doesn't meet the moment right there. The way going into the game is how we would feel probably this week about Kentucky, right? And again, it's South Carolina. Well, Mississippi State is getting the win over Missouri. And then you have, now you're hosting LSU.
00:10:43
Speaker 2: And there's going to be some hype behind Will Stein. That's great.
00:10:46
Speaker 1: But, yeah, I'm with you. I think LSU will get that done. But the whole deal with Mississippi State is just they came out flat. They look confused. Quarterbacks throwing right to defenders. Credit Alabama's defense. Offense is very efficient. And you're not going to beat Bama whenever you're turning it over as often as they were.
00:11:06
Speaker 2: Keelan Russell, 16 for 22, 285, three touchdowns, no interceptions. QBR of 96.8. It is his ability to run. I'll say this because he didn't really run in this game. He had like 17 yards rushing. It's his threat of running mixed with his precision accuracy deep down the field that makes him such a threat. Because when he gets loose also, it's not just, oh, he's going to take off and get seven yards. This guy could put it on a dime for a gain of 45 down the field with guys streaking open. So he's a problem. He's only a redshirt freshman. He's going to be a problem. for everyone in the SEC. Super impressed with Alabama. And with this tropical storm coming up through the Gulf this week, I'm looking at radar, and right now it looks like an absolute monsoon in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. So that could be a grounded-out type game and really hurt. I think that helps Georgia in that situation with Alabama's offense if they can be grounded because of really bad weather. We'll continue to monitor the weather situation all week in that game, but can't wait for this one on Saturday, Hutton. Again, Alabama, Georgia, Texas to me have separated from the rest of the conference.
00:12:16

Speaker 1: Man, We are seeing coaches, we mentioned coaches gone wild, whether they're telling it like it is in an interview chat or reacting in a certain way. Deion, we haven't heard from old prime in a while. We haven't heard from prime time. And, well, that's because they're not playing in prime time. Neither is the offense. Here's Deion Sanders discussing Colorado's offensive efforts.
00:14:09
Speaker 2: In just within these last few weeks, what is the main contributor on why the offense is not producing?
00:14:15
Speaker 3: You know what it is. I said you're going to run with it. You know darn well what it is. Just say it right at yourselves. You know what it is. It ain't no– it's blatant. It ain't no ifs, ands, buts about it. I would respect you all a lot more if you all just said it yourself.
00:14:33
Speaker 2: So that Hutton is a coach who is, without saying it, because he doesn't want to be the one who rolls one of his players under the bus, saying that the issue is quarterback play and the quarterback is the issue with the offense. And how do I know, Hutton, that that's what he's saying? Because when asked about why he benched Juju Lewis, here was his response.
00:14:55
Speaker 4: Hey, Coach. Brian Howe from buffblitz.com. Obviously, you benched Juju from first to third string, it looks like. Then Isaac didn't play well.
00:15:03
Speaker 3: I would love Juju to come here and he tell you what happens.
00:15:07
Speaker 2: So don't you.
00:15:08
Speaker 3: Bench Juju first to third string?
00:15:09
Speaker 2: No, that's not how it went down.
00:15:12
Speaker 4: Well, that's what it looked like, so I'm just asking.
00:15:15
Speaker 3: It didn't happen like that.
00:15:16
Speaker 2: Okay.
00:15:17
Speaker 4: But you benched Juju, and then Isaac doesn't play well. As you go into this bye week, is it an open competition at quarterback?
00:15:22
Speaker 2: It's always open competition.
00:15:24
Speaker 3: Every darn day is open competition. That's the position that is somewhat disabling us and disarming us.
00:15:30
Speaker 4: Every day is like that.
00:15:32
Speaker 2: Do you feel that? Well, derd. Gosh, derd. And I'm going to start referring to things as that's what's somewhat disabling us and disarming us right now. That's a very nice way of saying the quarterback sucks, and that's why we can't do anything on offense. It's a position that's somewhat disabling us and disarming us right now, as I say this. Deion Sanders is the king of... Instead of just directly answering a question or not answering a question, of saying an answer that I find enjoyable every time that brings about 15 more questions into play. I mean, he did this earlier when he said, hey, there's some guys back there who are no longer on the team. I just kick some guys off the team. And then the week of, everybody's back in practice. No one's kicked off the team. I don't know what he's talking about. Everyone's asking questions about who's still on the team, who's not, and he doesn't answer after that. He loves postgame to just start throwing things out there that bring on more questions.
00:16:29
Speaker 1: So he tells the media, you go and write it. If I say it becomes a story, are they allowed to write it? They're not allowed to report on practice. They can't report on anything, stretch, nothing. Absolutely no detail. You can't write. You can't transcribe. You cannot voice message. You cannot video. You can't use sign language. They listed everything. You can't sew these letters into a report. I have no idea what the media policy is in Colorado because the media is not allowed to tell us. So are they allowed to just go ahead and say it? Also, man, go ahead and say it because you've always done that. You kicked how many players off when you arrived? Beating your chest about it. Whenever you win, you want the media to, are you guys going to ask a question now?
00:17:23
Speaker 2: Now what? You know, like, Ed Werner, go ahead.
00:17:28
Speaker 1: You know, like, be fair with what this is. And they're back at practice, Chad, because Dio's the one that brought.
00:17:36
Speaker 2: Those dudes in. He also said, that's not what happened. When they said, you benched Juju and went to, he's like, I didn't say that. Well, you need to get, let's get Juju in here. You can ask him what happened. Did he take himself out of the game? Did he quit? I mean, what exactly happened? Because we've got another example in our Coach Has Gone Wild segment. Yes, we do. Of a coach who quit after being told something that he didn't like. He wasn't fired. Let's make a distinction here. Jim Mora Jr., first year at Colorado State, had a new defensive coordinator and a new defensive play caller during the game, and here was his explanation as to why it happened. We didn't see Tyson on the sidelines in the second half. Did you elect to make a change there?
00:18:17
Speaker 5: Tyson was relieved of his play-calling duties. He left the field, and he's no longer with this football program. That's a permanent thing.
00:18:28
Speaker 2: That is a permanent. So can he take over SDC then?
00:18:30
Speaker 5: Kenny will be the primary play-caller. He was put in a very difficult situation tonight, and he responded well, and the players responded well. The very first play he called as a defensive coordinator his entire life was a sack-cause fumble. So we're going to get better.
00:18:48
Speaker 2: We're going to get a lot better.
00:18:49
Speaker 5: He's a good football coach.
00:18:51
Speaker 2: Did you anticipate that he would leave the field when he was relieved?
00:18:54
Speaker 5: That wasn't anything that I would ever consider. I just relieved him of his duties as a play caller. He made the decision on his own to leave the field, and he is no longer with the program.
00:19:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, so they take play calling away duties from him, and he says– See you guys.
00:19:11
Speaker 2: I'm headed home. I'm out of here. GTFO. You think he handed over his binder and his play sheet to the other guy and said, yeah, have fun, man. Enjoy working with this guy. You're going to have a blast after he relieved him of his duties. Crazy, crazy weekend in the state of Colorado for college football between Deion Sanders and Jim Mora Jr. That guy, by the way, is wild. Jim Mora Jr. He is. People who work for him and The way he behaves at times, he's a wild man.
00:19:40
Speaker 1: Yes, to say the least. Also, same thing for P.J.
00:19:43
Speaker 2: Fleck.
00:19:45
Speaker 1: Check out the celebration. They get the job done. Minnesota beats Michigan. And he's drinking and chugging out of the jug. Well, it's definitely earned. Look at this guy.
00:19:59
Speaker 2: Row your boat, man.
00:20:02
Speaker 1: Man, for all of the messages and all the cheesy slogans and stuff, this dude is all in.
00:20:09
Speaker 2: Look at this guy. It looks like he's at a rave. I feel like he's in a full body cast on Sundays. Just from the amount of effort he puts forth to celebrate and be on the sideline.
00:20:21
Speaker 1: The amount of steps he gets in on the sideline.
00:20:23
Speaker 2: He's not a young guy anymore. And he is strong.
00:20:26
Speaker 1: Look at the leap up in the arms of players. Look at him scream here. We need some neon lights to glow in the dark here. This guy is just... What's he like on a normal day? You think he goes to Burning Man? When it's not game day. Imagine this guy drunk. That's how crazy he would be.
00:20:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's wild. He rubbed blood on his face last week. And one of his players was bleeding. He grabbed the blood and smeared it all over his face when he was celebrating with one of his players. Hey, I'll say this too, man. P.J. Fleck. an example of just stick with it with somebody and you get good results based on the program you're at, which that, that, uh, that level of patience isn't going to exist in college football right now. And I know a part of it is he's not gotten the job that he wants to leave. Minnesota probably would have left at some point if he had a great opportunity, but he's getting it done. And he's been there for a while now at that program. So good for him, bad, bad for Michigan. Um, They need to consider doing what Josh Heupel did on Saturday. I mean, it's time to go with somebody else other than Bryce Underwood, regardless.
00:21:34
Speaker 1: Of what they're paying him. I felt like they tried to, and then they won against Oklahoma. They were looking for that move early, because the coach was certainly willing to say it publicly. Imagine P.J. Fleck in a job interview, Chad. I mean, it would be too much. I mean, it would be the opposite end of the spectrum of Mike McDaniel.
00:21:57
Speaker 2: Well, and Kyle Whittingham is saying, I've been in this profession for 41 years, I think he said. He's like, this is the most challenging team I've been around.
00:22:05
Speaker 1: Because of what they were allowed to get away with. There's no telling what that dude walked into in that football program.
00:22:12
Speaker 2: I think you also, the idea is you hire Kyle Whittingham. He's going to replicate Utah with better resources and with a better program and a better fan base and all that, right? Bigger everything. And he's going to do what he did at Utah. The problem is what you can do at Utah with the players you recruit, oftentimes it's got to be a different approach at a Michigan with guys and what they're promised and what they're getting paid and what's going on within that roster. So not every job, it's not just as easy to say, let's take Utah and Salt Lake City and pick it up, pull the roots down and put roots down in Ann Arbor and do it the exact same way we did at Utah, but with better players. It would work that way. If he can do that, it's going to work and work very well. I believe that with him at Michigan. But it's easier said than done based on what you're inheriting, the situation of the players on that roster and everything else. We're seeing that at Michigan this year because they look very average as a football team. They're a very average Big Ten team right now. Nothing better, nothing worse.
00:23:17
Speaker 1: He inherits a total mess, but I said at the time, that's the guy they had to go after because he comes in, he can stabilize things, do it his way. But you have to allow him to build things and cut your losses. I'm with you on the quarterback play, man. The question is, is he going to have full autonomy to do it? My guess is yes, just based on how things have gone and probably what he was asked to do whenever he was hired. Man, there's a viral thing going around about Ursae, the owner of the Colts. And what she's doing on the sidelines. But I would ask the question, is it anything we haven't seen before on the sidelines for Indianapolis? It just happens to be something that someone picked up on again. With the notepad and much more. That's straight ahead. Is it fair or foul? Here on Hutton and Withrow. Chad, I'm jealous because you've got Crockett Coffee in front of you. Crockett Coffee, started by Clay Travis, Buck Sexton, and Buck's brother, Mason.
00:24:21
Speaker 2: There it is. There's the Crockett Coffee. Delicious.
00:24:24
Speaker 1: David Crockett. David Crockett. Storyteller, patriot, backwards legend. And the logo, yeah, he's surfing the backs of Crockett out. That tells you everything about the attitude here. 100% pure Arabica, high altitude beans, small batch roasted right here in America, Tennessee, the heart.

Speaker 2: Engelmorton had a real problem with the photo, the depiction of David Crockett surfing on the back of a crocodile because it wasn't historically accurate. David Crockett would know you don't let facts get in the way of a good story. And he's a narrative guy. That big narrative guy was that David Crockett. Big narrative guys at Crockett Coffee. 00:25:35
Speaker 1: Carly Ursae Gordon is the owner of the Colts, Chad. Fair or foul for her to be on the sideline, and she's wearing a headset, she's taking notes.
00:25:45
Speaker 2: Why is this a story... Well, it's a story because she's talking to coaches and asking them questions mid-drive for the first time that I've seen. I've seen her note-taking. I've never seen her. I haven't seen her do that. I've seen her note-taking on the side with the headset up and listening to what they're saying and just kind of silently in the background. But here is her actually talking to coaches and asking questions during the game about decisions they're making and what they're doing. This is her in the game at Tottenham Hotspur. But she's coming over asking for clarification on different things.
00:26:22
Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know who that person is right there, but if he's a coach, he's not doing very much. Yeah. I mean, I'm just saying, like, she's been on the sideline. Like, I don't think it's a distraction for them anymore because she's been on the sideline for over a season now. I wouldn't particularly like it if I'm a coach or a player.
00:26:44
Speaker 2: Oh, I think the coaches hate it. I would, too. I mean, they absolutely hate it. Like, if you gave any coach their choice of, you could have Carly Ursae Gordon. Is it Gordon Ursae or Ursae Gordon?
00:26:55
Speaker 1: I believe it's Ursae Gordon.
00:26:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, there it is. Ursae Gordon. I flipped it in my mind for some reason. Carly Ursae Gordon, or you could have an owner who never shows up to the games and just watches from somewhere else. They would take the owner who never shows up to games. Certainly not one that's on the sideline doing that. Nope.
00:27:12
Speaker 1: We spoke with Dockage about this back then. And it was explained that at first it was explained that she's trying to learn about the job itself, inheriting the team, all that stuff, right? Well, she still claims that she doesn't use the headset to tell the team or the coaches what to do, but more to just communicate and organize and feel with what she's doing and what she's looking at, why it is what they're doing and why it doesn't or does match up. with her assessment. Look, I mean, we can agree, disagree. I mean, I think it's foul because I want to get out of the way of my coaches to let them do their job.
00:27:52
Speaker 2: But I don't know.
00:27:54
Speaker 1: Is she really going over there saying, like, we're going to hand off here.
00:27:57
Speaker 2: What are you doing?
00:27:57
Speaker 1: Like, let's do what Akron did and allow a fan to come down here, like the owner, like me, to come down here and call plays. I don't know if she's doing that. It's absolutely a distraction, though. And by now, you should have a great assessment on what you're doing what those guys are doing on the sideline as the owner of the team. How about go up in the box and see what your GM's doing during the game?
00:28:19
Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to say the obvious fact here, too. She's a woman. And a lot of people are going to respond to that and react and say she's a woman in football. And because she's a woman, she looks like a little girl running around and doesn't know what she's doing, asking all the guys what's going on. And that becomes more of a distraction. I don't think that's fair. I would say this about any owner doing that. She clearly knows football. and she's trying to understand more of it. So that part of it to me is unfair, but that is a big part of the response from a lot of people. Now, you could do what another female owner in the league does, an Amy Adams-Strunk, and just have someone who's your eyes and ears that reports back on everything they're seeing and hearing on a sideline, in a conference room, or wherever those meetings take place. I believe there's a better way to accomplish what Carly Ursae Gordon is trying to accomplish without being on the sideline talking to staffers and being right there in the middle of a huddle the entire game or right behind the coaches, you could do this from your owner's box. You can have an ear into what's going on and what's being said and what's being called, and you can jot notes down based on how the coaches are talking to each other. You can have someone that says, hey, vibes are really good on the sideline during this game, or vibes are really down, or we had this player yell at this position coach, or we had this position coach yell at this player. You could do it a different way without hovering. And I think the hoveriness is what becomes a distraction for an NFL franchise when your owner is there around everything because it's like when the teacher's there or the substitute teacher is there. You're going to behave differently as a middle schooler when the actual teacher's there versus the sub. Well, when your owner is there, You know, this is like undercover boss. When your owner's there or your boss, you're going to behave differently or say things differently as opposed to when they're not there. So I don't know that you're getting a true read on everything if you're her also. Well, I mean, she's seen the good and the bad.
00:30:14
Speaker 1: They started out last year hot, had one of the best offenses in the NFL, then they get injured. She keeps the staff around. I will say this, two things. She's a woman, yes.
00:30:25
Speaker 2: She's the owner. She can do whatever the hell she wants. She's the owner. Let's say that.
00:30:30
Speaker 1: And number two, she's also an Ursae. Her father was as eclectic as they come. And aside from that, it's so straight. He had to be the guy that tweeted out the inactives every week. He had to be the guy that teased whether or not they were going to open or close the roof every week. And he had to break that news. Or if they signed a player or if they're bringing a guy in for a trial. It was from his personal account. I don't mind the fact.
00:30:59
Speaker 2: That she's interested. I think she's also a fan.
00:31:03
Speaker 1: Because they're getting $ 500 million every August win or lose as an NFL owner. I mean, you can be successful and not have wins on the win-loss record as an NFL owner. You're going to be very successful. It's a very lucrative business. But she's taking the time to invest into what she owns as her business and I mean, I respect it. I also think like, man, it's a distraction. If you're willing to learn and assess what's going on, surely you would realize that you're one of one here. You're one of 32, but you're one of one. There's not another owner. Even Jerry Jones isn't coming down there with a headset on on the sidelines.
00:31:46
Speaker 2: And let's flip it and say, to a division rival in the Titans. The knock on the Titans is, well, the ownership and the front office only concerned about a new stadium, new uniforms, marketing, this and that. And they need to be serious about football. I will give her credit and that there is no denying her commitment to football and to understanding football as an owner. The optics of it are bad. It's annoying to the coaches. It's probably annoying to the players too. I don't like that part of it, but if you're a Colts fan, I mean, I think what you want to know, if you're a fan of any pro team, uh, Is that owner, are they committed to winning at the highest level? And are they utilizing their resources that they're given from whatever market they're in or whatever tax subsidies they're given or whatever's happening to the best of the ability that affects winning and or the experience of a fan? All those things are important. That's all I want to know about an owner. Are you committed to winning? Are you willing to spend? Do you care about the actual sport of it? There's no denying she cares about the actual sport of it. There's no denying that she's not fully invested in football and getting the football part of it right. I just think that the messaging could improve. The optics of it could improve with how you're going about it. Again, you're the owner, as you said, Hutton. You can do whatever the hell you want. Get your headset up in the owner's box. Go sit in the tunnel. Go sit in your own private suite, locker room, whatever you want, inside of the stadium. Watch everything going on and listen closely. The entire time. I can understand wanting to be a part of it and all of that, but it's just not the place for owners. It's just not. That's not your spot on game day of where you should be. But she's breaking the mold. She's one of one in how she's doing it. Yeah, yes.
00:33:32
Speaker 1: And I would say now it's just kind of what it is in Indy. To me, it would have been a very big distraction last year. And They started off playing very well. The injuries happened. They ended up not doing great at the end of the season. They were in the middle of the pack in the NFL. Now they're not starting well, but I don't think it's because she's on the sideline. Had they started slow last year, I think I would have leaned towards, like, the owner needs to get out of the way and let them do their thing. Right now, because there was no talk about her interfering with anything last year, I seriously doubt she's doing much more this year, more than clarifying things.
00:34:14
Speaker 2: On a sheet.
00:34:15
Speaker 1: Again, I don't know who that guy was, but if he's a coach, he's not very invested in his players in the game if he's standing on the sideline next to some security officer, the owner, without a headset. That's all. I don't know who he was. I don't know who that is, Chad.
00:34:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he could have been the get-back coach, for all we know. Or a PR guy. I don't know.
00:34:37
Speaker 1: He had great hair.
00:34:38
Speaker 2: I know that. Did you see, speaking of the get-back coach, Luke Fickle's get-back coach when they were coming back to beat Penn State, and he was, like, tugging his cord from him on his coach's headset, and Fickle just snapped at him and said, I know, but he said it with a lot more cuss words than that when he kept trying to grab him to pull him back, and he swatted at him. as this guy was trying to pull him off the field, terrific.
00:35:01
Speaker 1: A bigger win for the coach, you believe it was Fickle, or do you think Lincoln Riley?
00:35:11
Speaker 2: Oh, I think Fickle, the way they've looked so far, which is competent, which is an improvement from what they've been, it's probably a bigger win for him. I mean, it was a good win, and they did it with defense, and the defense came up with a big play late, so that was a nice change for Lincoln Riley and USC. but I just don't, Washington's not been very good. I don't know how good of a win that Washington win is right now in the big 10. It's not some unexpected thing that they beat. It was a must win. It was, but they got it full, full credit. But I mean, it's not, it's not some great win for them.
00:35:45
Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, I w I was going to leave USC. I, I do think it's more about fickle now. I, I, we're talking about Lincoln Riley getting the.
00:35:55
Speaker 2: Bio if he wants it.
00:35:57
Speaker 1: Uh, I think last year there were so many jobs open that Fickle got to stay because they didn't want to jump in and get the 15th.
00:36:05
Speaker 2: Best coach to arrive at Wisconsin.
00:36:08
Speaker 1: They liked what they had based on who was going to be remaining after the SEC hired 10 or whatever it was. Yeah, so this year maybe not so much. Maybe he's helping himself some.
00:36:21
Speaker 2: This week, or sorry, they're off this week, and then it's a matchup of unbeatens in the Big Ten at UCLA. UCLA ranked 21st. Nebraska undefeated. UCLA undefeated. Wisconsin unbeaten in conference at 2-0 right now. So they get a week off to prepare for their West Coast trip. And it's not a brutal schedule for Wisconsin. They're at UCLA. They get USC at home. They're at Iowa, which is probably the toughest game they have left. Then Hutton, it's Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, and Minnesota.
00:36:51
Speaker 1: At home at the end of the season. So they need to win those. But I think the USC game at Wisconsin, that's the game for him to just automatically keep the gig. I get the sense that they'd love to get rid of Lincoln Riley regardless at USC.
00:37:09
Speaker 2: This is the 20, you get so many teams in your conference, the definition of imbalanced scheduling from team to team in a conference. This is a joke.
00:37:20
Speaker 4: I know.
00:37:20
Speaker 2: Conference schedule. They won at Penn State to open. They're done. With that win, they got Michigan State, who's awful, and they blow them out. They got UCLA. We'll see how good they are. But, okay. You get USC at home at Iowa. Not easy, but doable. But you close out the month of November with... Here's the November. In conference. Big Ten. League of Champions. Conference of Champions. Whatever they want to call it. Rutgers... At Maryland, at Purdue, who just got their first Big Ten win in two and a half years, and Minnesota at home. Give me that schedule. Show me an SEC team that has that schedule. At any point in their conference schedule.
00:38:05
Speaker 1: I don't want that schedule because that means I'm not getting any media rights money. You're getting it, but you're about to be lapped with what we're seeing with the numbers, Chad.
00:38:14
Speaker 2: That's what I mean.
00:38:15
Speaker 1: We discussed that on Friday. Meanwhile, like Ohio State. Ohio State remaining. They've played Texas, but in conference they had Iowa. They have Maryland coming up this week, but they have Indiana. They have USC. They have Oregon. They have Northwestern. They have Nebraska. They have Michigan. There's your imbalance. That's why Ohio State's on Fox every week. Big new kickoff every week. Where are you going to go? Those are the big games of the conference.
00:38:45
Speaker 2: It's Ohio State. It's the Buckeyes. It's JT's team. how about Dave Portnoy no longer allowed on big noon kickoff? And they completely pulled Barstool Sports off of it. And he just took to social media and said, yeah, I'm going to tell you why it happened. It's because Ryan Day is a P word and said it over and over again. And he said to all the thousands of Ohio State fans that aren't that, I apologize to you, but your coach is a complete wuss. And he has been complaining to the league office about Portnoy being on And he said, I don't blame Fox for how much money is at stake for listening to Ohio State eventually and pulling us off.
00:39:25
Speaker 1: But that's the whole reason. But think about that. Therein lies the whole thing right there. You know, you, you, you have a conference where you, you've got a coach that doesn't want Portnoy on because he's a Michigan guy, right? And he's talking trash all the time. Meanwhile, you've got McAfee who knows how to have fun with it. You've got Saban who can go to all these different places and knows how to have fun with it. Um, There's a difference with game day and big noon just based on that alone. With how all that started and walking down the streets. Right after the whole Connor Stallions thing.
00:40:05
Speaker 2: It's the difference. Your whole business is based on inciting people. That's Dave Portnoy's whole thing. He's going to yell and scream and be angry. It's a total like Pat McAfee's more joy. You know, he does get angry at times, but it's more about the joy of doing what he does and the joy of college football and hyping teams up. He's a WWE heroic hype man. Right. Portnoy's just on. It just doesn't work on network television. I mean, that's always been my take with him. It's a misplaced thing. It works with what he does. With Barstool, absolutely works. But when you put him on a network show, it just is never going to work. Well, it works in bits, in small doses, not every single week. Like when he first debuted, the numbers were very respectable. We touched on that, right? But it gets old. Like it's the same thing every week. So at least with game day, you've got something that changes up at least every week or so. Uh, Caitlin Clark, I thought did a pretty good job on air this week. Chad, you probably missed that. She did. I actually went back and watched and thought she did a good job. It was cool. She was up in the children's hospital too. And they did the wave. Oh, that was cool. The whole feature on the children's hospital was neat, but she came ready. She was ready to go back and forth with McAfee. I think they're buds there in Indianapolis. Uh, So they had a nice rapport going into it. And, yeah, I thought you did a good job.
00:41:27
Speaker 1: I thought about you whenever they picked the UMass game.
00:41:29
Speaker 2: UMass. UMass. UMass got their ass kicked. Did they? I didn't see the final. Oh, yeah. Eastern Michigan whipped them. Because I went to watch because everybody picked UMass. Except for Stanford Steve.
00:41:42
Speaker 3: UMass.
00:41:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody picked UMass. Eastern Michigan. It was like 38-17 or something like that. The UMass story. Not quite as good today as it was last week.
00:41:54

00:43:34
Speaker 2: I went with the.
00:43:36
Speaker 1: My lock of the week was Tennessee and Auburn under 55.5. Chad, you hit on the Northwestern money line, called that from the jump.
00:43:45
Speaker 2: Well done.
00:43:47
Speaker 1: We did well this past week going out and saying, hey, this is where we're confident, and we backed it up.
00:43:54
Speaker 2: I've got to do a better job of organizing my level of confidence on each one because I tend to just go with my first one first. And I need to go with the Thursday lock. We have the lock segment on Thursday. I'm not making excuses here. John Sumrall's not going to be mad at me. I'm going to be accountable for it. My lock did not hit. I lost my first lock of the year. The first one of the year, though. I mean, you're plus money. Yeah, Louisville was we asked this weekend at NC State. NC State's not a good football team. And now I'm convinced that Louisville's also not a good football team. So that one really crept up and killed me. But I would have gone– Northwestern was my highest confidence on the money lot last week. I should have made that my lock, but instead, because we parlay on Wednesday first, I went with my first thought, put that on our three-leg parlay, got that one, and I would have been undefeated still in my locks had I just gone with my brain and my gut. Northwestern was not going to lose opening that new stadium. That new stadium looked fantastic.
00:44:56
Speaker 3: No.
00:44:57
Speaker 2: Looks futuristic. Looked awesome. They had RG3 there eating hot dogs and popcorn and showing the new concessions at one point. Also, it was like half full. There was hardly anybody there. And I got home after our high school football game. We went to DCA Friendship and had that call. And I'm watching the end of that game, Hunt, and it's like, I mean, it was like 60% full. There were tons of empty seats in the stadium. Was there terrible weather? Like, what? No, not to my knowledge. And maybe everyone left. Because it was a blowout. Because I'm watching in the start of the fourth quarter, and maybe a lot of people left. The first game. Northwestern's not the biggest fan base going to the Big Ten. I understand that. But I figured for game number one, they would ensure they had a sellout, even if they had to give tickets away for people to go to the game.
00:45:44
Speaker 1: Not the biggest fan base, but they had the donations and stuff that made this happen. Man, that's crazy to me.
00:45:51
Speaker 2: Well, they have the city of Chicago, too. I mean, you would think you would get that area of Chicago that would come out and support. So I was surprised to see the crowd, but not surprised to see my Northwestern Wildcats take it to Penn State. Penn State is very mid to below this year. You know what's not mid? Chip Kelly's offense. Holy cow. I mean, he is running like a shotgun version of a Navy or Army offense mixed with big shots down the field. And I think in terms of creativity– In the run game, Chip Kelly and Buster Faulkner at Florida are doing things that not many other teams are doing with how they get creative with how they run it. Kudos to Chip Kelly. He's getting a coach ball now. That's what he's always wanted to do. And he's just the offensive coordinator at Northwestern. But that offense looked really good on Friday night.
00:46:41
Speaker 1: I will say, though, Chip Kelly, wherever he leaves, the team ends up being at least a little bit better overall, oftenly. It looks like it's worked out okay for both. Now, there is a coach in between that. But, you know, things are looking up and up at UCLA, okay.
00:47:03
Speaker 2: Hutton, we got to go home team tonight, right? Saints, Falcons.
00:47:06
Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. I don't trust the Saints defense. They've given up their average, I think, 27 points per game. I'm leading Atlanta. We can split it. You go with your gut. I'll go with mine. But I'm going to take Atlanta Moneyline here. They've got the starting quarterback now in Pennix Jr. They have the talent on offense to score. They've got a running back who just went off last week. They're coming off a 10-day rest with the Green Bay Thursday night football game. They got their first win of the season. I think they ride that momentum. I think they're feeling pretty good. I think Atlanta's defense is better than New Orleans' defense. That's my gut.
00:47:47
Speaker 2: How can you convince me? I can be easily influenced, and that was a great sales pitch. We are going Atlanta Falcons money line.
00:47:55
Speaker 1: Let me also say, this was around three or two and a half yesterday.
00:48:01
Speaker 2: It's one and a half right now.
00:48:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, we're seeing it at one and a half now. Over under 47 and a half. You could also take the over here, because I think both offenses will put up some points. The Saints are known for getting down early. they'll do what Kentucky just did to South Carolina. They get down early, double digits, they come back and they make that a game, you know? So, uh, I think it'll be a very good game. I just, I leaned Atlanta on the road simply because you've got the dome, weather's not a factor and better playmakers on Atlanta's offense.
00:48:31
Speaker 2: Now I'm going, I'm playing it right now. I'm going Falcons money line. You've sold me. You convinced me on that.
00:48:37
Speaker 1: I'm sure there's going to be a, a bonus bet or something where, uh, for in-game play only, where maybe you can hedge this if we get out to a slow start this evening.
00:48:49
Speaker 2: Hey, how about your Bravos?
00:48:51
Speaker 1: How should I play this moving forward?
00:48:56
Speaker 2: Dodgers? You plan Dodgers to win it? I mean, look, they still, the Braves are going to have to face three great starting pitchers. Because of the depth, right? They've got Yamamoto, Glasnow, and then Scooble will be the Game 5 starter if it gets to that. The Braves have Chris Sale left. Now, the Braves, somehow, in a bullpen game... it looked like they were just saying, all right, we're going to go down 0-2, and then we're going to have Chris Sale bail us out in Game 3 and at least force it to a Game 4. But getting that win last night with Ray Kerr starting again the way they did in the decisive game against the Phillies, and it was the same formula. It went from him to Grant Holmes with the beautiful curly locks Then it goes to Didier Fuentes, 20-year-old phenom out of the bullpen. Braves getting that win was huge because now they get Chris Sale tomorrow. That's what I'm saying, yeah. Great chance to push this thing to a five-game series if Chris Sale can get the win. But, I mean, it comes at you in waves with not just the Dodgers lineup but the pitchers they can throw in every single game. So I would still– that's a big win for the Braves, and they did turn the series. With that, I would still probably pick the Dodgers to advance. Yeah.
00:50:08
Speaker 1: But great, great win for the Braves. They surprised me with that one. So, right, it's like it always is. It's a run and a half on the spread. Over, under, it's six and a half total runs for game three. And, again, it's just minus 110.
00:50:23
Speaker 2: Straight money line.
00:50:24
Speaker 1: I mean, you mentioned the pitching coming up. You've got sale now. I might roll with Atlanta in game three, Chad.
00:50:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, again, I think Chris Sale... I know you're talking about the gauntlet, but... Yeah, and then they got Chris Sale versus Yamamoto in this one, which the Braves have had a hard time with them. And then Tyler Glass now, and then Scooble again, who just beat the Braves in Game 1. So I'm not picking the Braves to win the series. Will they win with Chris Sale? Yeah, I'd pick that. I think the Braves could go up 2-1 and then lose the next two games to lose the series, but I do think they got a great shot in Game 3 back in Atlanta. But kudos to Walt Weiss. who makes some unorthodox decisions that tends to pay off. Terrific first year for him as manager of the Braves and what he's accomplished. And it's clear those guys love playing for him. I'm all in. Here's my one caveat to all of this. I didn't watch a second of the game on Saturday during college football. And I love the Braves. But if you're going to contend with a Tennessee football game and all of college football at the same time, I am watching the score and seeing what's happening and seeing the score. It is tough, tough, tough in America. And I know it's America's pastime. But to get people to turn away from football Saturday or Sunday to watch Major League Baseball playoff games. I know they don't want to go into November. I know all these things. But man, oh man, do I get a lot more interested in a Yankees game on a Monday night or a Tuesday or a Wednesday or a Thursday. or even a Friday, or a Braves game on one of those nights than I will on Saturday or Sunday. Even last night with one game as competition, I'm watching Braves-Dodgers versus Panthers-Lions, right? As a baseball fan, as a Braves fan, it's just hard to go head-to-head with football in anything.
00:52:17
Speaker 1: And I'll say this too, and I agree. Somehow the NBA and the NHL don't overlap all that much whenever they're in the same playoff months. You try to avoid certain things. Now, the NHL is getting– at one point they were trying to get close to the NBA, the all-star game and all that stuff. But the Stanley Cup final isn't anywhere close to what we're talking about this month. But the NBA will spread things out so far where you can play a game at home and not play again at home the very next game of the series for like two nights just to get the optimal time. whether that's a Sunday night game or a Saturday night, they want and they will guarantee they're going to be in the best spot for them that time of year on that network.
