00:00:00
Speaker 1: We've got another huge episode of Hold All Tickets. Brown Dog, what can they expect?
00:00:03
Speaker 2: I'm excited for the Memsie, Mr Brightside, Angel Capital, Autumn Boy, but.
00:00:08
Speaker 3: Cosmic Crusader's the one that I think will win again.
00:00:11
Speaker 4: And I'm excited to be back after a two-week spell and right this ship and bring a bit of class that has been much needed and missing.
00:00:18
Speaker 1: Definitely need some class and stick around for the quiz because something unbelievable happens. Hold All Tickets, check it out now. Hello and welcome to another episode of Hold All Tickets. I'm your host Mick Wall and joined by a couple of our experts in one second. As I said, Joined by a couple of absolute superstars. We've got Campbell Brown, Rose Pearson. How are we, team?
00:00:57
Speaker 3: Good to be here, Rose. Welcome back.
00:00:59
Speaker 4: Thank you, Cam. It's good to be back.
00:01:02
Speaker 3: There was a suspension during the week.
00:01:03
Speaker 2: The MRO stepped in here and I didn't want to have to do this. But Adam Brett officially off the couch for one week.
00:01:11
Speaker 1: Yep.
00:01:12
Speaker 3: And I'll tell you why.
00:01:13
Speaker 2: Very disappointing for the Punters family.
00:01:15
Speaker 3: Friday afternoon, there was a runner in the last race on the Canberra Synthetic.
00:01:21
Speaker 2: Hmm. And it was a former Hong Kong horse. Mark Newham trained it. It was called Super Infinity.
00:01:28
Speaker 1: Yep. Good name.
00:01:28
Speaker 3: It absolutely flew down the outside, grew wings and.
00:01:32
Speaker 1: Hit the line and won at $ 8. $ 8.
00:01:34
Speaker 3: Terrific win.
00:01:35
Speaker 4: Yep.
00:01:35
Speaker 1: Here it is. There we go. Now, Brown Dog.
00:01:38
Speaker 4: Last.
00:01:39
Speaker 3: Coming from last.
00:01:39
Speaker 1: We're all on the horse that's about to go.
00:01:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, the fave here. He's done enough. So we're on the fave.
00:01:44
Speaker 1: So we're cheering at this point. We've probably done enough.
00:01:47
Speaker 3: Orange down the outside. Have a look at this.
00:01:49
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:01:49
Speaker 2: Now, that meant nothing to me at the time. Obviously, the disappointment of losing on the line. But I subsequently found out that Adam Brett and Alex Donnelly are both in this horse.
00:02:02
Speaker 1: Yes.
00:02:02
Speaker 3: So well done to them. It paid $ 8 at one, but... He sat here next to me with you Thursday. Did he mention it?
00:02:09
Speaker 1: No, he didn't mention it. He mentioned it after they won.
00:02:12
Speaker 3: He backed it.
00:02:13
Speaker 1: He backed it. He backed it. And then he goes, oh, we're told not to back it. It would have been a great start to our weekend. It would have been incredible. Money in the account before a big Saturday.
00:02:21
Speaker 2: And so I've decided to be Michael Christian this week.
00:02:26
Speaker 3: One week suspension, Adam. See you later.
00:02:28
Speaker 1: See you.
00:02:29
Speaker 3: What do we call it? Unduly rough conduct to the punters.
00:02:32
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:02:34
Speaker 4: It's thin behaviour for sure.
00:02:36
Speaker 3: High contact. Good weekend of racing, wasn't it?
00:02:39
Speaker 4: It was.
00:02:39
Speaker 2: There wasn't a stack of winners on our part, but Cavalry Girl was good.
00:02:43
Speaker 3: The runner of the weekend for me was Pembrey.
00:02:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, very good.
00:02:46
Speaker 3: The Tony Golan runner.
00:02:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
00:02:48
Speaker 3: Midnight in Tokyo, lobbed, thank God.
00:02:50
Speaker 1: You'd be happy with that. Another thing is that the spring stable for you two kicked off and obviously the most points you can have in any race is three because you get one for the horse. one for the jockey, one for the trainer. And Rose, not being here didn't matter because Autumn Glow got you off to a fly with all three points because you had Waller, you had J-Mac, and of course Autumn Glow in your stable. So, well, you're already starting from a bit back. Round Dog is going to be a bit of work to do.
00:03:16
Speaker 3: A lot of work to do.
00:03:17
Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what. Seeing that first up, let's just talk about that. So we've seen She's Alibi a little bit tardy to begin with, and then Autumn Glow very forward, looked great, put in– I'm reading like one, if not the best rating for the horse. So first up was quite incredible. Let's talk about firstly how we saw both of the returns and then maybe where they're heading.
00:03:39
Speaker 3: You watched the race from the UK. What did you make of the run?
00:03:44
Speaker 2: Autumn Glow was really well back late, like $ 1.
00:03:47
Speaker 3: 85 into $ 1.
00:03:48
Speaker 1: 60.
00:03:48
Speaker 2: So the punters saw her, liked her, and the race panned out exactly how.
00:03:53
Speaker 3: They would have liked.
00:03:54
Speaker 4: It did, and I think the race panned out in the most perfect way for her to be able to give her personal best. Perfect ride, one out, one back. That's your perfect traveling position within striking distance. There was good speed up in front, which sets it up for a couple back, too. And it just set up perfectly for her to show how brilliant she was, and she was. She was so dominant. One being eased up in the end. You know, terrific turn of foot, done the job, switch her off, and I don't think you get much more impressed with her than that.
00:04:25
Speaker 2: I love J-Mac, who's the consummate professional. As he went over the line, he looked back.
00:04:30
Speaker 3: Good bit of gamesmanship. You know, Luke Nolan, where are you?
00:04:33
Speaker 4: I also think that means that you could see visibly how well she quickened, but he must have felt that and had a little look back, like, gee, how far have I put these guys away?
00:04:44
Speaker 3: It was great.
00:04:45
Speaker 2: And I'm glad Peter Moody and Chris Waller, for that matter, decided– that they were going to go head-to-head to kick off our spring because holistically from the racing point of view, it's what the punters wanted.
00:04:58
Speaker 3: It's what we all wanted.
00:04:58
Speaker 2: We thought maybe if the track was a little bit, you know, wet that she might get scratched.
00:05:05
Speaker 3: They both ran.
00:05:06
Speaker 2: I reckon while she's an alibi didn't win, the tardy start certainly didn't help.
00:05:14
Speaker 1: No, and then like running.
00:05:15
Speaker 3: Never properly travel.
00:05:16
Speaker 1: Finishing off nicely. I'll say it's comfortably the best start to a spring in my time.
00:05:24
Speaker 2: Let's not protect our superstars and race away from each other.
00:05:28
Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and see who's better. We've never had anything like that.
00:05:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, you have.
00:05:31
Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong. We were talking about a race that Winx won multiple times. So we've had great horses resuming and winning to kick off spring, but not a head-to-head, a match race like this. Like that. Everyone else in the field bar one being a group one horse. Amazing.
00:05:46
Speaker 4: I was going to say, aside from those two being a match race, I thought Gringotts was exceptionally good. His jump outs were very good going into that as well. And I think this could possibly be another group one prep for this horse. I thought it was very good.
00:05:59
Speaker 1: Tell you what, it was a great first up race for all. Just quickly, sorry.
00:06:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, go.
00:06:07
Speaker 4: Eliana, she's in your spring stable. How do you feel.
00:06:10
Speaker 3: About her performance? No problem. It's a long spring.
00:06:14
Speaker 1: She's coming as a big chip on that shoulder today after the Adam Brent fiasco. All right, so my question is, Autumn Glow, what do you do? What do you do here for Autumn Glow? We've asked before. Would this be a scenario where you go, okay, this is Hong Kong versus Australia. We are going to set Autumn Glow for the Everest based on this, or do you think, okay, We've seen how she's presented first up. Let's go to the King Charles and then let's have a crack at the Cox.
00:06:42
Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, Epsom's off the table now.
00:06:45
Speaker 2: It's going to be King Charles into the Massara team, I think, are desperate to race her in the Everest.
00:06:51
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:06:52
Speaker 3: So usually what.
00:06:54
Speaker 2: John Monsey gets and that would again be a fantastic race with Kading rising against our best potentially.
00:07:02
Speaker 3: We'll have to wait and see, but. Yeah, no Cox Plate.
00:07:07
Speaker 1: So no Cox Plate.
00:07:08
Speaker 3: Oh, that's my gut feel. If Everest is the aim, then.
00:07:14
Speaker 1: Because I know this is not, it's not a, it wasn't, she'd never crack at 2,400 and go, okay, she's not a star. You can have one crack at 2,000, maybe it doesn't pan out and then have another go.
00:07:25
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:07:25
Speaker 1: We know that. This isn't a weekend hustler going to the Caulfield Cup type scenario here. So it'd be interesting to see what happens. Where would you, we've. Wouldn't that be awesome if she went to the Everest?
00:07:36
Speaker 4: I would like to go to the Everest as a racing fan and enthusiast. I think it's a real tricky training performance going from the 14th first up back to 12th, which again makes it even more entertaining. Kai Ying rising, freak of a horse. But for the theatre, yeah, I would love to see.
00:07:53
Speaker 1: In the right pan. Right jock aboard. It would be pretty special, wouldn't it? Anyway, we'll wait and see. All right, let's get into the racing because this weekend– We kick things off down here in Victoria and in the Memsie, we have an absolute cracker because we've just got a huge amount of horses that are resuming. We've, we've, we've seen trials. We've seen a lot. This is really exciting period now that we're about to get into. We're about to get into the business end and some really, really good racing. So we go to Caulfield, the rails out four meters. We've got a soft seven. It's overcast conditions. Um, 1,400-meter Group 1, which is the Memsie. We've got Jimmy Starr at 440, current favorite. Cosmic Crusader after another really strong win in the PB Lawrence at $ 5. Bayvac also at $ 5. Angel Capital at $ 7. Treasure of the Moment at $ 8. Autumn Boy at $ 11.
00:08:44
Speaker 4: Mr.
00:08:44
Speaker 1: Brightside at $ 12. Tom Kitten at $ 21. It's a good race. Birdman, it's an incredible race. We've even got Buckaroo there. As I throw to you, Brandog, let's have a look at the PB Lawrence and this awesome win. from cosmic crusader.
00:08:58
Speaker 2: Yeah so it won the blitzingly first up was fantastic backed it up here with this pb lawrence performance a fortnight later same track same trip and uh willie pike just had a nice run in transit peels out a long way from home probably um had to get going a fraction earlier than he'd like but um so strong to the line look at this And Private Eye saves every blade of grass up the fence, doesn't go around a horse.
00:09:25
Speaker 3: Good horse, puts it away.
00:09:26
Speaker 4: The benefit of having jockeys on that know the horse is so well too because he knew he needed to get out and get going then for that horse to hit its top and be winning that race.
00:09:36
Speaker 3: Certainly did.
00:09:37
Speaker 2: So five from five on a soft deck, Cosmic Crusader. I've got it on top, but this is a cracking race.
00:09:42
Speaker 1: Mr.
00:09:42
Speaker 2: Brightside, now a nine-year-old, second last year, first up to Treasure of the Moment, second in 2024, first up to Pinstripe.
00:09:51
Speaker 3: Won it in 2023. It was second up that day.
00:09:53
Speaker 2: Here's a question for you, Rose. How many times would a jockey have ridden a horse a single horse, 45 times in its career? Because that's the number Willow is riding Mr.
00:10:07
Speaker 3: Brightside. Wow. 45th time.
00:10:09
Speaker 1: That's just got to be a record.
00:10:10
Speaker 4: It doesn't happen. There's no loyalty in racing. You're lucky to stay on one four times, never mind 45.
00:10:14
Speaker 3: It's just phenomenal.
00:10:16
Speaker 2: So that is just my little stats. Angel Capital, I'm prepared to risk. Flopped in the missile stakes in Sydney behind Ninja and Napoleon. Second up record's nowhere near as good as its fresh record. It's nearly been 12 months since Angel Capital has won, and that was a listed race.
00:10:34
Speaker 3: At Moonee Valley.
00:10:35
Speaker 4: Overhyped.
00:10:37
Speaker 2: Autumn Boy won its only time to Caulfield last year in the Guineas. That was over the mile, end of the prep. Bayvark's not a first-up horse, but he's two from two over this trip.
00:10:47
Speaker 4: Well, you say that, but he's never ran over 1,400 first-up. His first-up run of all, he's been over 1,000 or 1,100. Because I've put him on top for this race, and that was my concern, that he's not a first-up horse, but he's never been first-up over 14.
00:11:03
Speaker 1: And I think that could be the difference. You think they've got, yeah, ready to go this time. Okay. Interesting.
00:11:08
Speaker 3: Treasure the moment. We'll give a sight.
00:11:10
Speaker 4: I think so too.
00:11:10
Speaker 1: It's the one I like.
00:11:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, I liked her.
00:11:12
Speaker 2: So it's a good race, but I am firmly in the camp of Cosmic Crusader and how can't you be with what that horse has done in its two runs in Victoria?
00:11:20
Speaker 4: Because it's coming out of Barrier 11 and Hunter's put a good story up about that with stats. Only two horses have won out of Barrier 11 since 1983, I believe.
00:11:30
Speaker 1: Yep.
00:11:31
Speaker 3: I don't believe in history.
00:11:32
Speaker 1: Was one of them Regal Roller? Because I'm assuming Regal Roller won from just about everywhere.
00:11:37
Speaker 3: Good horses defy anything. I think this is a good horse.
00:11:41
Speaker 1: All right, there you go.
00:11:42
Speaker 4: Does that mean you don't believe in yourself playing well tonight in the Legends game?
00:11:45
Speaker 3: Of course I don't.
00:11:46
Speaker 1: History is not repeating itself.
00:11:48
Speaker 3: Definitely not. I've done a 364-day taper.
00:11:54
Speaker 1: After last year. So we're going Cosmic Crusader and Baybuck in that one for you two. All right, let's have a look at race six. It's an 1,100-metre Group 3 event. I'll Have Another Day is the $ 2. 50 favourite. Bridal Waltz at $ 4. 40. War Machine, $ 6. 50. Recommendation, best of the rest at the nine bucks. Brown Dog, we'll start with you.
00:12:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, put Bridal Waltz on top here at $ 4.
00:12:18
Speaker 4: 40.
00:12:18
Speaker 3: Super consistent mare.
00:12:19
Speaker 2: Won or placed 12 of 17 times it's gone to the races. Good first up record. Won first up in the autumn. Drawn well, bottom weight. Should jump and run and put itself in the race. Just like the price discrepancy. It's $ 4. 40 currently. Certainly got a lot of respect for Tom Dabernick and what he's doing because every time one of his horses comes to the races, Cavalry Girl, I Live Another Day, he's got Shadavar as well that we'll touch on.
00:12:50
Speaker 3: They're just– the stable's flying.
00:12:52
Speaker 2: So I'm with the nine for Peter Moody and Catherine Coleman, but I know that Rose, who doesn't tip favourites often– Lot really likes this one.
00:13:03
Speaker 3: This might be why.
00:13:05
Speaker 4: Yes. You'll see on the replay now, we could see this horse was a good horse last prep, stringing four together in a row. But I think she's really gone up to another level, this prep.
00:13:16
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:13:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, she's a really good jump out. There's some very good horses in here. Point Barrow is very quick. And he's managed to lead them up and put them away quite easily in the end. So... Definitely goes on top for me. I think the race pans out perfect for him as well, sorry. Barrier one, he's going to put himself on speed. He's a good fresh horse, loves the distance, loves the track. He's one from one at all of those. And, yeah, I just think off these jump outs, all the stats, he's actually my best of the whole meeting. I think it couldn't work out more perfect for him.
00:13:58
Speaker 2: You've got to respect War Machine as well. I think last year's Stradie winner, haven't seen since March. Remember it pulled up Lamer when it went.
00:14:09
Speaker 3: Around at $ 1.
00:14:09
Speaker 2: 30 at Backenham, first up, last prep. So forgive that. I mean, it's never going to go around $ 1.
00:14:15
Speaker 1: 30 again.
00:14:16
Speaker 2: But then it was ordinary in the new market and has been spelled. But trialled up well for this. I think it is ready to rock and roll for the Hayes team. But, yeah, the market's spot on. Like, I live another day.
00:14:29
Speaker 1: Yep.
00:14:29
Speaker 2: You know, last run, saw it at the Wongoom, down in Warrnambool, blew him away. This is harder, but good horse.
00:14:36
Speaker 3: I'm with Bridal Waltz. What would your Bridal Waltz be if you and Lockie got married?
00:14:42
Speaker 4: What would my song be?
00:14:44
Speaker 3: Well, would it be a... Cha-cha. What is the waltz?
00:14:48
Speaker 1: I don't think people are doing cha-chas after they get married, Brandon. There's no bridal cha-cha.
00:14:54
Speaker 4: You've got more experience than this than me.
00:14:55
Speaker 1: What was yours?
00:14:56
Speaker 4: You have been married.
00:14:57
Speaker 1: A little bit of Ed Sheeran. I bet Ed Sheeran too.
00:14:59
Speaker 4: Was that your first song, Ed Sheeran?
00:15:01
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:15:02
Speaker 4: Which one?
00:15:04
Speaker 3: I can't remember.
00:15:06
Speaker 1: It's going beautifully. Interesting you mentioned the market here. There's been a lot of movement. I don't think they got the market right at first, but it's been sorted out and it's in the right place now. Oliver the other day was out. Bridal Waltz was firm. War Machine was 420 to 650. Recommendation was 23 to 9. So there was a lot of early movement, but it looks like it's settled there. Yeah. So we'll move on to Race 5 on the car, which is another Group 3 event over the 1,200 metres. And you just mentioned the Dabinik runner there, Shadava. That's $ 2. 70 favourite here. Custom $ 6. 00. Balcheval at $ 8. 50, as is Road to Arataki, $ 8. 50. Double figures the rest, Brown Dog. But you're looking around the favourite here again.
00:15:54
Speaker 3: I've gone with Custom, Kiramar Ethan Brown.
00:15:58
Speaker 2: It's a good dolphin runner. It's just got a fitness edge over nearly every runner in this race. Some of them are first up. And this horse hasn't missed a place in its three runs this prep. All have been at Caulfield. Second first up, belted him by three lengths as a short price favourite.
00:16:17
Speaker 3: Second up.
00:16:17
Speaker 2: I thought it was a bit disappointing last start as the $ 1. 75 favourite. Some reports that the horse didn't like racing around other horses. $ 6 is a pretty good price about a horse that.
00:16:35
Speaker 3: Will give a drum, I reckon. I reckon it'll run a drum.
00:16:38
Speaker 4: Bit of a step up in grade.
00:16:40
Speaker 3: It is, and you must respect that.
00:16:43
Speaker 2: Every horse that Tom Davenick brings to the races because this horse is flying and it's put three together in a row.
00:16:51
Speaker 1: One first up.
00:16:52
Speaker 4: Which is what had me questioning why Willow's not riding it again as he did when on it last start. He's riding my top pick for that race, Belle Chevelle. And a big reason for that was I see Willow has chosen to ride her. Which makes me think either he's thinking ahead that maybe she's not going to be winning first up but she's going to have a good prep. or he thinks she's good to go.
00:17:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's an interesting one because I thought 1,200 metres for Belle Cheval was going to be too short for it. This is a horse that came over and won the Vinery last start in Sydney. It was 2,000. So we'll surely get better. Do jockeys as good as him think ahead?
00:17:34
Speaker 4: They do, and that's what I'm questioning, whether he's thinking for the next couple of races and he needs to be on our first one to keep that ride, or if he's thinking– No, she's a better horse than Charlevar. And I think she's going to run better than Charlevar. I'd say it's a mixture of both. She has won over the trip.
00:17:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, it has.
00:17:53
Speaker 4: In a much, much weaker race.
00:17:55
Speaker 3: Over New Zealand.
00:17:55
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:17:56
Speaker 3: I'm not going to fall into that form again.
00:17:57
Speaker 2: The New Zealand form stung me.
00:18:03
Speaker 4: But she's a proven class horse.
00:18:04
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:18:06
Speaker 4: You know, I think Willow choosing to go on says a lot, and I'm happy to put her on top. She's a proven group one horse as well, albeit over a further trip.
00:18:14
Speaker 1: Yep.
00:18:15
Speaker 4: All right.
00:18:15
Speaker 1: Very good. Okay. Speaking of NZ horse, it looks like there's a Tiago racing horse, the favourite in the next. So race seven, another group three, 1,200 metres, the McNeil Stakes. Sees the day. Currently $ 4. 80, but it's a real, like, clogged market at the top here. You've got American Eagle at $ 5. You've got Unit 5 at $ 5. 50. Etheria at $ 6. Confederation, best of the rest, at $ 9.
00:18:36
Speaker 4: 50.
00:18:36
Speaker 1: We're going to have a look. Now, you both like the same horse here who was uber impressive here. This is American Eagle.
00:18:44
Speaker 3: The red with a black cap. And have a look at it accelerate. Good win. Yeah, it is.
00:18:52
Speaker 2: And it beat Judas Tree, who's the godolphin horse on the fence. Judas Tree franked that form last Saturday when it came out and won. in a really tough display at sand down. Um, so drawn barrier run one should get run of the race. Um, Friedman stable.
00:19:11
Speaker 3: Going along.
00:19:11
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:19:12
Speaker 4: Can you tell us the only thing that concerns me a little bit is barrier one, because he got back in his only race and I'm just slightly concerned. He might find himself a couple of pairs back on the fence and in a little bit of trouble, but you've got marks are on board.
00:19:26
Speaker 3: You know, what's the stable saying about, I mean, you you're down there every day.
00:19:29
Speaker 4: I haven't asked anyone. I know Mark Zara came out to Pinecliffe to gallop him on Tuesday, which is a massive sign because jockeys don't come out to Pinecliffe.
00:19:37
Speaker 1: And if there's any money, it's also a good sign.
00:19:39
Speaker 3: Can I give you some homework for next week?
00:19:42
Speaker 1: Ask.
00:19:42
Speaker 3: Next time.
00:19:43
Speaker 1: That's it. What's your homework?
00:19:45
Speaker 3: One word.
00:19:46
Speaker 4: Ask.
00:19:47
Speaker 1: Done.
00:19:49
Speaker 4: Do you know what his point is? asking Mark Zara because he's not going to tell me. He's very shrewd. He will keep it to himself. But I can tell you myself, I've been away for a couple of weeks. I come back. I was looking at him in the tie-ups the other day. He looks outstanding. His coat is gleaming. He looks like he's, you know, strengthened up and thickened up.
00:20:08
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:20:09
Speaker 4: And he was very strong on a heavy track. I think any kind of drying of it, you're just going to see an even better horse.
00:20:15
Speaker 3: Should improve from its first up performance.
00:20:17
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:20:17
Speaker 4: Definitely.
00:20:18
Speaker 1: Race seven in the day, you can see how the rail's holding up and see if it's on.
00:20:23
Speaker 3: It's a good race, this one, though.
00:20:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, it is.
00:20:25
Speaker 2: Unit five, good first prep. Won the Magic Millions. No luck in the Blue Diamond. Tried up really well for this at Cranbourne. Athira won well on debut in June. Probably surprised a few because there was no market expectation. It went around at 26 to 1, which doesn't often happen for a Danny O'Brien runner.
00:20:48
Speaker 3: And then seize the day, the gun New Zealand horse, it's a favourite.
00:20:52
Speaker 2: It's bolted in, in debut and then the Manawatu'i size produce, the group one. But I made the same mistake with Lara Antepova and I won't do it again.
00:21:03
Speaker 3: Sorry, New Zealand followers.
00:21:05
Speaker 4: You learn from your mistakes, do you?
00:21:06
Speaker 3: Sometimes.
00:21:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes.
00:21:08
Speaker 3: A man that learns.
00:21:09
Speaker 4: From his mistakes. There you go.
00:21:11
Speaker 3: It doesn't cost me money. You always learn. So good little race this one, but we align and I like that.
00:21:17
Speaker 4: I don't. That normally means I've got it wrong. Whack.
00:21:21
Speaker 1: All right. We'll now have a look at race nine on the card. And I'll tell you what, there's some Cups horses resuming here and going around. We've got Yellow Jersey as your $ 2. 40 favourite. First chorus at $ 6. Just Folk at $ 11. 00. Barnavara, who was meant to resume last week, got scratched the $ 12. Further down the page, J-Mac jumps on Solcombe. If J-Mac rode Solcombe a few years ago in the Melbourne Cup, it probably wins. He was absolutely butchered that day. It's great to.
00:21:52
Speaker 2: See that horse back. Hasn't run since 2023. We're all in the futures already.
00:21:56
Speaker 1: I am. Mate, I love Soco.
00:21:59
Speaker 3: Three years.
00:22:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm pumped. That was a call out for me. I'm really excited. And just seeing Jay Mack aboard warms my heart, Brown Dog. Nothing I would love more for this horse to continue through and see him on it on the first Tuesday in November. Unlike her, I know, but that's fine.
00:22:16
Speaker 3: First course, if you're an owner, you're getting a check every week at the moment.
00:22:19
Speaker 1: Oh, hey, look at this. It's going beautifully.
00:22:21
Speaker 3: This horse is going around every single week.
00:22:25
Speaker 1: Yellow jersey, the favourite. Talk to us.
00:22:27
Speaker 2: It's the favourite because of this. French import resuming, ran in Queensland in June in a listed race and was beaten by War Eternal. It's a trial world for its return.
00:22:36
Speaker 3: This is Mr. B leading them up in front.
00:22:39
Speaker 2: And yellow jersey in the reddish colours about to get off heels. You've got Giga Kick as well. Back behind it in the red and white silks. You've also got Tom Kitten, the Godolphin horse that's about to hit the line.
00:22:54
Speaker 3: But look at this. Not that Mr.
00:22:57
Speaker 2: Brightside trials well and is ready to go, but that's a pretty nice trial, Rose.
00:23:04
Speaker 3: You're the jockey.
00:23:05
Speaker 1: Now, this trial race, this was done during races at Caulfield.
00:23:10
Speaker 3: Yeah, called by Matty Hill.
00:23:11
Speaker 1: Called by Matty Hill. Did the horses make– I think.
00:23:15
Speaker 4: Everyone certainly got a bit excited.
00:23:17
Speaker 1: They absolutely did.
00:23:18
Speaker 4: There was no I'm just going to give this one a quiet one there, which is great. It's what you want to see. And they all look fantastic. You know, yellow Jersey I've put on top of this race as well. He's part of my spring stable. I think he looks like a really nice horse. Um, and sharp too, you know, like he's traveling against giga kick that giga kicks a dead set sprinter. We're going to 1700. And he's, I mean, look dead, got it covered. Um, you know, to see a stay that's got a turn of foot as well. It's quite exciting. And I think McAvoy's have got themselves a really nice horse there. Mark Zara is riding. You know, it's all looking very positive for Saturday.
00:23:56
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:23:57
Speaker 2: I couldn't agree more. I was absolutely wrapped with that. I think this horse oozes class and ability.
00:24:03
Speaker 4: I think I remember you sniggering at me when I put that in my spring table.
00:24:07
Speaker 3: Never. Yellow jersey.
00:24:11
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:24:12
Speaker 3: Did Lance Armstrong have to return all of his yellow jerseys?
00:24:15
Speaker 1: I think he gets to keep the jerseys.
00:24:17
Speaker 3: Right.
00:24:17
Speaker 1: The money.
00:24:18
Speaker 3: Right. But just not the honour.
00:24:20
Speaker 1: Just not the honour. But I reckon he'll be okay. Shh. I think there would have been, if they got them all, Randolph, there would have been a lot of returning going on for that sport, for that 20-year patch. Anyway, that's it from Caulfield. Let's have a look at Black Bookers for this week. Look, Black Bookers, very important heading into spring. We know that. It's never more important because you don't want to miss runners when you've done all the work early on and then we get into the bigger races later on. You want those horses. You want to be reminded of them. Now, all you need to do with this is you go to Punish, go to the app, go to punish.com.au. sign up for punters light. It doesn't cost you anything. It doesn't cost you a cent. You just sign up with an email address. You get it in there and then you can build your black book. You can follow the brown book if you like. It's completely up to you. Brown dog, none removed one in. Is that right?
00:25:06
Speaker 2: Yeah. And I thought I was going to have a winner yesterday up in Queensland. Agadou was going around in race one and got scratched. So, uh, I was a bit disappointed with that because that's the horse I, I black booked a couple of weeks ago. The only horse that really caught my eye, um, Was last Saturday, uh, up in Sydney over the 2,400. Um, and this was golden century, the, um, Waller runner, Tommy Berry wrote it.
00:25:32
Speaker 3: He jumped from barrier foreign.
00:25:33
Speaker 2: It went back worse than midfield had to peel out at about the 800 meters. Um, to, to just get into the race because of the, you know, moderate tempo and Tommy Berry, you know, got out and going.
00:25:47
Speaker 3: Came the widest of all the runners and really did hit the line well. Came third.
00:25:52
Speaker 2: They gapped, you know, fourth and the rest of the field. And I just thought it's fit and it's obviously in a good stable. If it had a better barrier or was able to sit a bit closer with.
00:26:05
Speaker 3: The tempo and a bit more, it's winning that race or going very close.
00:26:10
Speaker 2: So none really caught my eye during the week, but I just thought Golden Century was one that I'd absolutely– Be happy to have something on next start.
00:26:19
Speaker 1: See anything over at Cheltenham or Ascot or anything over in the UK worth following?
00:26:23
Speaker 4: I'll be honest. I switched off completely.
00:26:27
Speaker 1: As you should.
00:26:27
Speaker 4: I didn't watch any races here or England, apart from Autumn Glow. I had to watch that replay. I checked results, but I didn't. Time difference makes it hard.
00:26:38
Speaker 1: No doubt there'll be plenty.
00:26:39
Speaker 3: Tell you what she did see, though. The bottom of a lot of pint glasses.
00:26:43
Speaker 4: I did. And wine glasses.
00:26:45
Speaker 3: And margarita glasses.
00:26:46
Speaker 1: Responsibly. Oh, all responsibly, Brandon. Absolutely responsibly. All right, we'll head to Rose Hill and we've got the rail at three metres. It's a soft six. Overcast weather again. And we're going to look at the.
00:27:00
Speaker 1: Race 8 on the card, which is a Group 3. It's the San Domenico Stakes over the $ 1, 100. Brought to you by the fine people at the Smithfield RSL. An RSL getting their name to a Group 3. I like the ring of that, Brown Dog.
00:27:11
Speaker 3: We like RSLs. Love an RSL.
00:27:12
Speaker 1: Blue Door, $ 2.
00:27:13
Speaker 4: 15.
00:27:13
Speaker 1: Guest House, $ 5.
00:27:14
Speaker 4: 00.
00:27:14
Speaker 1: War Woven, $ 6. 00. Wild Atlantic, $ 6. 00. Nine, 750, sorry, is the best of the rest. Let's jump right into this one.
00:27:25
Speaker 3: I might look silly, but I'm not sold on Blue Door just yet.
00:27:29
Speaker 2: Every chance first up, beaten by Chilly Girl. I am in the camp of Warwoven. Brilliant debut preparation. Won its first two races. Scratched as the Magic Million Favourite on race day, if you remember. Bumped into two potential stars in Campion d'Italia and Central Europe in the skyline. Wasn't disgraced. Won the Pago Pago. Slipper run was good. It's trailed up well leading into this behind Ninja and Napoleonic. Those two came out and ran okay first up. Big guest house in a more recent trial who it meets around the same price on Saturday. 1,100 metres might be a fraction short of this horse's absolute best, but I reckon it's come back in pretty good order.
00:28:16
Speaker 3: Bjorn Baker has... Blue Door as well.
00:28:20
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:28:20
Speaker 2: So how the race tactics evolve, I'm not too sure, but I'm happy to be with War Woven, Rose.
00:28:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, tricky race. I put Guesthouse on top. You said War Woven beat him, but I actually, I like how Guesthouse trialed. He was given a really solid hit out to the line. Like he's fit, ready to go. Typical of Price and Kent runners. They are pretty screwed down first up.
00:28:46
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:28:48
Speaker 4: But he's, you know, he's a good fresh horse. He's a group one winner. He's drawn well enough. I just, it was a tricky race, but when I put the stats together, I put him on top.
00:29:00
Speaker 2: I think you can, like, without being disrespectful to the other horses in the race, you put a line through three or four of them. I'd be very surprised if someone won outside of Blue Door Guest House or War Wyvern.
00:29:11
Speaker 4: Which I really liked. Berzelius in the next race we're looking at. And I was surprised to see him scratched and then opting for the 1100 first up in a tougher race too. So, I mean, maybe he's shown Michael Friedman that he's improved a lot and he can win that race. But I thought it was interesting going to the San Domenico stakes as opposed to the other race.
00:29:37
Speaker 1: Wild Atlantic's going to be an interesting runner here. on debut and just what happens with the market because it saw early support as soon as markets opened. So I'll be interested what happens there. But, yeah, hard to look outside those top three. We'll move on to race seven on the card, which is a group for over the 1,300 metres. Another RSL involved in this one, Brown Dog. Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL. in the up and coming stakes. So just shout out to the RSL.
00:30:02
Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely.
00:30:03
Speaker 1: There you go.
00:30:03
Speaker 2: All right.
00:30:04
Speaker 1: Savagram is the $ 4. 20 favorite. Pagerism at $ 4.
00:30:07
Speaker 4: 60.
00:30:07
Speaker 1: Pagerism, Brandon, you would add a bit of that at school, wouldn't you?
00:30:10
Speaker 3: Absolutely. That's how I got through.
00:30:11
Speaker 1: That's how we get through. Likewise.
00:30:14
Speaker 3: And not just at school, through my uni years as well. You don't stop.
00:30:18
Speaker 1: How do you think I got this job? All right. Genesis Runner at the $ 5. 50. Outspan at $ 9. 50 is the best of the rest.
00:30:27
Speaker 3: The Friedman camp have a very strong hand here. They've got three runners.
00:30:31
Speaker 2: So not all of them are going to slide straight to the front and take each other on, I wouldn't have thought. I was with plagiarism. So Severgram won well on debut. This is obviously a much harder race. Plagiarism's got that race experience. It carried 60 kilos. First up and was okay. Ran third, well beaten. Dropped significantly in weight to 55 kilos.
00:30:55
Speaker 3: Should strip fitter.
00:30:57
Speaker 2: It is still a maiden, so it hasn't actually tasted victory just yet. But Regan Bayliss jumped back on board. He rode this horse on its debut. And, yeah, I just think of the Waterhouse Bot Runners, I think Plagiarism's the one that will jump and lead. Um, and hopefully with that little fitness, uh, that it's got under and the less weight can steal some cheap sectionals, um, through the middle stages and be awfully hard to run down.
00:31:26
Speaker 4: I put South end on top after the scratching of Basilius. I, he's very lightly raced horse, um, three starts for two wins. He's one track distance and first up, I think. He's a really nice horse in the making. I love how he hit the line. He was given a solid hit out as well. He's fit and ready to go for this race. And look, it's a tricky race, but I think he's going to be in it for a long way.
00:31:51
Speaker 1: And a price too. Love that.
00:31:52
Speaker 3: All right.
00:31:54
Speaker 4: I think he's a nice horse.
00:31:55
Speaker 1: Now that wraps up our race by race. So before we get to the $ 100 price for the weekend.
00:32:00
Speaker 3: You'll have something tricky for us.
00:32:02
Speaker 1: I'm not going to do a quiz as such, but it's kind of a quiz. So Brown Dog won his first quiz last week.
00:32:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, but it was.
00:32:11
Speaker 1: Just the most, like, the edit for our producers would have been a nightmare. It was in ghastly fashion. It was in ghastly fashion. We sort of don't know. Him and Adam just absolutely fumbled through it. You haven't seen anything quite like it. But this is simple. This is an over or under. I'm going to give you a horse. I'm going to give you a prize money marker, and you're going to tell me if they're.
00:32:34
Speaker 3: Over or under.
00:32:37
Speaker 1: All right, now, you can both have a go. A bit of difference would be good if you're not quite sure. But you both get a choice, Brandon. You can have first choice for the first one as the defending champion of last week. All right, so first one is Winks. $ 26 million flat. Was she over or under that?
00:32:55
Speaker 2: $ 26 million.
00:32:58
Speaker 3: I'm going to say over.
00:33:00
Speaker 1: Rose?
00:33:01
Speaker 4: I'm going to say under.
00:33:02
Speaker 1: Over.
00:33:03
Speaker 4: Over.
00:33:03
Speaker 1: Round Dog, 26.451. Oh, he knew. All right, you can start this time, Rose. We've got Black Caviar, 7 million.
00:33:12
Speaker 3: Over or under?
00:33:14
Speaker 4: Over.
00:33:15
Speaker 2: Round Dog?
00:33:15
Speaker 3: I'm going to say under.
00:33:16
Speaker 2: Under.
00:33:17
Speaker 1: Round Dog again, 6.697. There weren't none of those big races back when. You've got to imagine how many Everest's she's winning. Before then, it just wasn't the same.
00:33:28
Speaker 3: It'd be a $ 30 million job.
00:33:29
Speaker 1: I'm surprised by that. And he's done this emphatically because you can say the same one. You can say the same one.
00:33:36
Speaker 3: I just like to say the right one.
00:33:38
Speaker 1: Wow. Whack. All right, my friend. My top two or three of all time, maybe my best. Maccabi Deva. I'm going to give her the line of $ 14 million. Over or under?
00:33:51
Speaker 4: Who's going first?
00:33:53
Speaker 3: I'll let you have a go.
00:33:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, you go.
00:33:56
Speaker 4: Under?
00:33:58
Speaker 3: On three Melbourne Cups. Prize money back then wasn't as big. Not only that, won a lot of group ones. Over.
00:34:05
Speaker 1: Over 14.5 to 6. I can't get beaten now. But this could be a sweep. No, no, we won't. We won't do that. That's not how we do things.
00:34:14
Speaker 2: I like to put the foot on the floor when I have superiority.
00:34:18
Speaker 1: You've got this easy kill.
00:34:19
Speaker 3: I've got to take this all into my game tonight.
00:34:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. This is a good confidence booster. Redzel.
00:34:26
Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. 16 million. Under. 1-2 Everest, I reckon.
00:34:32
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:34:33
Speaker 3: But not much after that. How much did you say, 16?
00:34:37
Speaker 4: 16.
00:34:37
Speaker 1: I'll say under.
00:34:38
Speaker 4: No, over.
00:34:39
Speaker 1: You're saying over?
00:34:40
Speaker 4: I'm saying over.
00:34:41
Speaker 1: It was over 16.444. So there you go. So it's not a clean.
00:34:44
Speaker 4: Sweep, but there you go. The Everest, you answered it yourself. Everest worth 20 mil.
00:34:49
Speaker 3: Nah. Early days. Early days.
00:34:52
Speaker 1: And don't forget, like, the first prize money is less than half.
00:34:55
Speaker 3: Early days, I reckon 5 mil, 5 mil. So that was 10.
00:34:58
Speaker 1: It's only about 8 now, isn't it?
00:34:59
Speaker 3: I can't remember Red Zell winning too many more races.
00:35:01
Speaker 1: Wouldn't have. Still can't believe I won the race.
00:35:02
Speaker 3: So maybe, yeah.
00:35:04
Speaker 1: There you go.
00:35:05
Speaker 4: Didn't need to win too many more.
00:35:06
Speaker 3: Didn't.
00:35:07
Speaker 1: All right. Nature Strip. And we'll go with the flat $ 20 million.
00:35:12
Speaker 3: Over.
00:35:15
Speaker 4: Under. $ 20.
00:35:15
Speaker 1: 755 million.
00:35:17
Speaker 4: 4-1.
00:35:17
Speaker 1: There you go.
00:35:21
Speaker 4: 4-1.
00:35:21
Speaker 3: Thank you, Rose.
00:35:22
Speaker 1: Don't even need the tiebreaker on that one. So we can just move straight on.
00:35:28
Speaker 3: There you go.
00:35:29
Speaker 4: All right.
00:35:29
Speaker 1: Very good. Brown dog. Emphatic too, but like confidence. Confidence. Very, very confident. Amazing, isn't it, the black caviar? Well, when you actually know. That's crazy. I know, it's mad.
00:35:39
Speaker 4: Undefeated, and that's what she won.
00:35:41
Speaker 1: Undefeated. Just group ones.
00:35:44
Speaker 2: She's picking up two, three hundred thousand for a win in some of those races.
00:35:49
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
00:35:49
Speaker 3: None of them were big.
00:35:50
Speaker 4: No.
00:35:51
Speaker 1: No, and then, I mean, yeah, exactly.
00:35:54
Speaker 3: You'd be a bit upset if you're the owners of Neil Werritt and those guys. They'd be fantastic.
00:35:58
Speaker 1: I reckon it'll be okay. We wouldn't have won any money back. We know that.
00:36:03
Speaker 4: All right.
00:36:04
Speaker 1: Uh, let's get to a hundred dollar place for the weekend. Brown dog. We'll start with you.
00:36:08
Speaker 2: My best of the day is Rose. She'll race for number five, a Vista. Uh, this is the lightly raced four year old mayor. That's one four from five career starts. The Masara runner. It's two from two on a soft track. So if the, uh, the rain continues up there, uh, it'll have no problems handling it. Um, One, I made him comfortably, went to a Class 1 tick, benchmark 66, bolted in. Benchmark 72 last start. Actually had to really work hard to get the win.
00:36:37
Speaker 3: Did settle back.
00:36:38
Speaker 2: So Braithnock rides his horse for the first time, and they've used a one-and-a-half kilo Claving Apprentice to get it down to 56.5. I just like it to sit a little bit closer because this is benchmark 78, so slightly harder. But showing well above average ability, going through the grades nicely. And I think we'll be winning again.
00:37:01
Speaker 1: Very good. And you've already alluded to your one earlier, Rose.
00:37:05
Speaker 4: I've put A Live Another Day as my $ 100 play this week. Caulfield race number six. I think he proved he was a good horse. Last prep, stringing four wins together in a row on all track conditions. In dominant fashion, his jump outs have been outstanding. This prep against some good horses. I think he's gone up a level from last prep. And I think the Caulfield race this Saturday, barrier one, he's got good early speed. It's going to be another autumn glow situation. He's just, everything is aligning. And he's going to get the chance to show how good he is this prep.
00:37:40
Speaker 1: Well, there you go. Good luck to both of you. Good luck to all the punters out there. Hope you enjoyed. The weekend's racing. A lot of good horses resuming this weekend going around, so it'll be good. Thanks to our friends at Stockhead, stockhead.com.au for all things ASX and all your stock tips. We'll be seeing you next week. At least these two will be because Adam Brett might very well be back. He might be coming in hot after a suspension, and I fear he might be angling for my host here. So we'll see how we go there. Enjoy the races, and we'll see you next week. What are you really gambling with? For free and confidential support, call the number on the screen or visit the website.
But of course, where we always start, we're brought to you by Stockhead. You come to punters for your race tips, you go to Stockhead for your stock tips and everything ASX at stockhead.com.au.
