00:00:00
Speaker 1: High Scrollers is produced on gaddigul Land.
00:00:02
Speaker 2: We pay our respects to the traditional custodians of this country. An elder's past and present.
00:00:06
Speaker 1: Always was, always will be aboriginal Land.
00:00:13
Speaker 3: Quick Quick, Quick, quick Quick.
00:00:18
Speaker 1: I love that we don't have an official song for the quick Whiz. We just make it up every single time. But hello Scrollers, we bet that you weren't expecting to hear from us today. But Matt's finally back from his annual leave and he's feeling fresh on.
00:00:34
Speaker 2: Feeling fresh and feeling ready, and we're going to give you a little rundown. We asked in the Scrollers chat what you wanted to hear about my trip away, and I thought we'd do like a dedicated thing so that I didn't take up a whole episode talking about it.
00:00:46
Speaker 3: So he's a quick whip for you.
00:00:48
Speaker 1: Does absolutely And we also have to give a massive shout out to Dove and then New whole Body Doo. It's because of them that we're doing this episode today, a fresh new episode, and we're going to chat all about Matt's trip.
00:00:59
Speaker 2: I might do it a little refresher before we actually start.
00:01:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, well I've got them here too.
00:01:04
Speaker 3: What one have you got.
00:01:05
Speaker 2: I've got raspberry and rose the whole body do under arms and beyond. Hang on, let me pop some on.
00:01:14
Speaker 3: See, I've got the purple one here.
00:01:16
Speaker 1: I've got lavender and Camma Miles scent, which I feel like these are nice sense for deodorants. Oh see that one's like fresh and summery. And then I've also got the stick here. Wait, let me open it asmr Oh.
00:01:33
Speaker 2: That's nice. I think I like that more than the aerosol. Actually that's a bit stronger.
00:01:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, it is really sweet. I've never used to stick deodorant before. Oh really yeah, I'm like a spray or roll on, but this is like an actual stick. Smells nice and I love that you can put this everywhere, Like the whole body doo is just having its moment, not just for under your arms, but literally anywhere on your body.
00:01:53
Speaker 2: Well yeah, and having coming back from you know, a very hot euro summer, I could definitely use some of the products. I wish I had the cream tucked away in my bag for my under boob area, you know. Yeah, yeah, not a spray under there. That's a bit of a I mean you can if you'd like to, but I feel like that'd be quite quite a sensation for me.
00:02:12
Speaker 3: Love it. Thanks Dove.
00:02:13
Speaker 2: Well, I'm feeling fresh after getting back from Honestly, I thought i'd really struggle, but I do feel on top of the world.
00:02:20
Speaker 3: I feel since coming back.
00:02:21
Speaker 2: I actually feel more alive since returning back to Australia.
00:02:27
Speaker 1: When you were away for some ye oh god, doll, I was exhausted. I saw your videos that you kept doing to the I am tad.
00:02:35
Speaker 2: Tad actually, and I was, but you know, what's so grateful and what a privilege to be able to tick all those things off my list.
00:02:41
Speaker 3: But it was exhausting. You know.
00:02:42
Speaker 2: I had family members we caught up the day after I had arrived home and they were like, oh, you know, do.
00:02:49
Speaker 3: You feel refreshed? Do you want to go back to work? And I was like, yeah, I'm actually stinging to go back to work.
00:02:55
Speaker 2: And I also know don't feel well, didn't feel fresh, feel fresh now, but like I didn't feel fresh because I was like it was thirty thousand steps a day in the blessed during summer hate you know, you.
00:03:08
Speaker 1: Should have had the whole body doo on you.
00:03:10
Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
00:03:11
Speaker 2: So anyway, I feel, I do feel like I'm in a new era where I'm like.
00:03:18
Speaker 1: Do you feel like you've come back with any new perspective on life or has anything changed?
00:03:23
Speaker 2: Not particularly. I think one thing I will say is a lot of Europe, all the not horror stories that I heard, but a lot of the things that I think people warned me about or said that I would hate it actually wasn't too much of an issue. I really had not much to worry about. Not many things went wrong, whereas I feel like everyone prepared me for the worst and to have a really bad time. Things like you know, obviously the walking every day, which was a lot, but also not really an issue.
00:03:54
Speaker 1: I feel like if you're having fun though and exploring a new area that you've never been to before, seeing a different part of the world, like walking around, you don't see it as like a chore for sure.
00:04:02
Speaker 2: I think like pickpockets, a lot of people were warning me about that. We didn't really experience that. Obviously, a couple of times there were like instances where I noticed someone who would have like was acting a bit shady. Or there's like a scam in Paris where they try and make you sign a petition and then they go through your bags.
00:04:23
Speaker 3: That well I almost felt for that.
00:04:26
Speaker 2: Well I didn't fall for it, like I knew, but like I engaged and then and then clicked on pretty quickly.
00:04:33
Speaker 3: So there are times that they they get to you.
00:04:36
Speaker 2: The other thing as well as like people always people said, don't take a suitcase, you got to lug it through the cobblestone streets and things like that. Well we didn't have to deal with that because we just got taxis to and from where we needed to go and they just dropped us at the door. So I think it's a little different as well that there was one place in Barcelona that we went, and all the tiktoks that were coming up on our for you page because every time you go to a new country, like it fills with what that country is and what there is to do, which is really fun because it's a bit location based.
00:05:04
Speaker 3: Like You're for you page.
00:05:06
Speaker 2: So they were the Cheetah Girl steps in Barcelona. There were lots of videos about how many steps it was to get up there and that the walk up there is so.
00:05:15
Speaker 3: Grueling, and I mean we caught a taxi up there.
00:05:18
Speaker 2: It was eight euros and we walked got out the taxi and the steps are right there. And so I think like a lot of the things that people were warning me about, like that really weren't an issue for us because I just assumed that maybe people don't want to spend the money. I understand, like everyone's got a different budget when you're traveling, but like, I think that there are some people who don't see the value in booking the eight euro taxi because they're like, well, that's two drinks, which I totally get and I've totally been there, but you know, it's like that White Lotus quote. That's like I just think at this point, you know what is the quote? I deserve to live a life for luxury. I forget how the quote goes, but you know what, you know what I mean. I'm willing to spend the eight pounds on a taxi up the hill, whereas some people maybe aren't. And we all have different priorities. But I didn't have as many issues as I thought I would. But do you just want me to go through one by one and tell you what I thought of each country?
00:06:17
Speaker 3: We might be here til Christmas.
00:06:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, Well this is a quick whip, so you've got to do it in quick, quick whips. But why don't we start out with this before we get onto everywhere. Why don't we start with tell us your favorite place and in a nutshell why and your least favorite place and in a nutshell why?
00:06:32
Speaker 2: Okay, least favorite. I'll start with Barcelona. They don't like tourists. At the moment. Tourism is actually really hurting their economy. It's driving prices up. There's not much housing available because people are buying airbnbs, and then there's nowhere for anyone to live, and then the tourism is like it's just become like a tourist city and basically there's protests and things quite often. We also went to Barcelona and we just felt like everyone hated us and no one was there either. It actually felt like lockdown, like there was no one in the street, shops were shot.
00:07:09
Speaker 3: It was really bizarre. Were we therefore three or four days? Okay?
00:07:13
Speaker 2: And yeah, I couldn't wait to leave. But I think I went to the wrong place in Spain, and I think it's just a bad time to go right now, So didn't connect with Barcelona. Would definitely go back to Spain and maybe go to Madrid or maybe Majorca or something like that. But Barcelona for me was definitely my least favorite place, but I think that's just the climate at the moment. My favorite place was definitely the Sorrento in Italy, like a Malfi coast, vibes your positano, et cetera, et cetera. Definitely somewhere I would love to get back to. And it came at the perfect time of the trip because it was about four weeks in or so. That's where we had that the wedding venue hotel, super super viral moment, like ten million views on that video on TikTok. I was like, what the bloody heck? That was amazing. So many new people have joined me on lines thanks to that video and potentially have started now listening to the podcast. Yeah, that was bizarre. We obviously booked, as you all know, through flight Center, and that just comes up with like they're booking that hotel, like it looks like a hotel. Nowhere does it say that it is that, So like not f that's funny centers fold or anything that we got that random bizarre. I mean, it turned into an amazing social thing anyway, So it was for the best, but a lot of people were like, oh, why didn't your travel agent take you through it and stuff. I'm like, because if you actually go and look at any of the websites, it never mentions that anyway anywhere, so how would they know that? So but yeah, it was a fun surprise, let's go through all the things. London loved it, but not as much as I thought. Fun fact for you all, I thought I would move to London when I was much younger, just after I got out of high school.
00:08:52
Speaker 3: I wanted to move to London with my best friends.
00:08:53
Speaker 2: She actually ended up going, but I didn't have the funds and she was sick of waiting for me, so she left, which props to her. She went and had the best time and now she's back here.
00:09:01
Speaker 1: I feel like so many people did that when we were younger, Like they went to London. Then you get a job in a pub. Yes, it's such a like cultural thing for assies to do when they're young.
00:09:11
Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
00:09:12
Speaker 2: So I was sad about that and I thought i'd love it, But I mean, it was fine, but I wasn't obsessed with it. I also will say this is a bit dodgy, but the West End is just not that good. I really didn't enjoy. We saw ten shows. Obviously we're huge musical theater fans. We did Broadway earlier this year. I went and saw Wicked. They used British accents. Hated that, sorry, and I just felt like every show I watched, almost every show I watched, the people on stage just felt like they didn't want to be at work that day, and fair enough, sometimes you don't want to be at work, fair enough, fair enough, but I just thought it was it was lacking compared to obviously Broadway, which we went to earlier this year. But I would argue that our Australian productions here, homegrown talent Joe, are miles ahead of the West End. So that was really kind of like kind of a especially with New York being the first place we went to in America, and I just fell in love for London to be the first place. I kind of was like, oh, there's a bit of a bummer, but anyway. Then we were off to Amsterdam. Loved Amsterdam. Next we went to.
00:10:15
Speaker 3: That's a quick whip right there.
00:10:17
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it's quick Wick, but more on that never and then we went to Germany Berlin.
00:10:23
Speaker 3: Didn't love Berlin, but I'd love to.
00:10:26
Speaker 2: Do more of Germany in the future, but didn't really connect with Berlin. We then went to Poland Crackou, but we only went there to go to Auschwitz, which was obviously a very moving experience and I'm.
00:10:38
Speaker 3: Very grateful that I got to do that.
00:10:41
Speaker 2: Also in Amsterdam we went to and Frank house, so it was quite interesting to learn about certain things that then I got to go and see at Auschwitz, such as the platform that and Frank arrived at, et cetera, and then to actually go and see that was very interesting to connect those dot sort of thing.
00:11:00
Speaker 3: We went to Switzerland. Switzerland is so expensive.
00:11:02
Speaker 2: It is beautiful. It is beautiful, like it was absolutely looking real. It doesn't it looks like a MacBook background. Like it's just beautiful. And we did have a really good time, but I was like, oh, I'm a celebrity, get me out of here.
00:11:16
Speaker 3: It is so expensive, Like how much?
00:11:18
Speaker 1: Like how much for a bottle of water?
00:11:20
Speaker 3: Oh, at least twelve dollars?
00:11:22
Speaker 2: Like if you want to go to The one that I keep telling people is if you want to go to a pub and get a cheeseburger and fries at a pub, Like that's going to be sixty five aud It's just ridiculous pricing, and it was amazing, Like it was beautiful and we did have a really good time, but I don't think i'd ever go back for that reason, because that money can just go so much further elsewhere.
00:11:45
Speaker 3: Then we were in Italy. I loved Venice.
00:11:47
Speaker 2: I thought Venice was beautiful and had a really good time there, but I would never go back because I think it's like a one and done sort of city. We did Florence, loved Florence, Tuscany region. We did a wine tasting, which, by the way, I found my love for red wine.
00:12:01
Speaker 4: Brittany, I saw you had that written down, so finally, so we'll have to enjoy a red wine soon because I don't know if we'll have to get it shipped in from the Tuscany region.
00:12:12
Speaker 2: But I fell in love with it, although I will say after a day of wine tasting, maybe any wine tastes good by the end. And we made our own pasta and got to eat it. And that was like a group activity, Like we just booked that on a random website.
00:12:27
Speaker 3: I think it was called Get Your Guide.
00:12:28
Speaker 2: We booked a few things through that and we kind of it was us and like maybe twenty other people, and it kind of felt like a.
00:12:35
Speaker 3: Bit of a Kentiquy vibe, like I was.
00:12:37
Speaker 2: Meeting people from all over the world and it was really, like, really really good because obviously we'd been by ourselves for about five weeks or so at this point, and so to interact with a lot of other people, it was really nice.
00:12:50
Speaker 1: Right by the way, I just want to inject here, Yeah, is like this is the longest time that you and Sky have ever been away together.
00:12:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, how was it? Yeah? Good, no no issues, no fights.
00:13:01
Speaker 2: Like, as I said, you don't know if you want to marry someone until you go traveling through Europe with them, like you know, and so we've done it and we got through it, and literally, I mean he also just knows though he can pick up on my cues, you know, when I'm not having a good time.
00:13:20
Speaker 3: It's not like he's annoying, you know how.
00:13:22
Speaker 2: I feel like that's what it comes down to, Like if someone's in a bad mood, the other person just needs to accept that and do something else, you know what I mean.
00:13:32
Speaker 3: He's very good at that.
00:13:33
Speaker 2: He's very good at that sore because there were days where I was just, you know, ready to blow my lead because of the hate, especially you know what I'm like with the hat and things, you know, things going wrong and it is one of those things where the little things on holiday go wrong and they just become such a big issue. And it's funny because his bag went missing when we went to Poland. It didn't come on the fly, and I was so stressed and he was like, so say Lava, and I was like, why are you panicking about this? Like you've got nothing, Like, you've got no clothes.
00:14:07
Speaker 1: Being like, oh, to be okay, yeah, literally, so swear some of your clothes.
00:14:11
Speaker 3: Yeah. So he's very good at dealing with all that sort of stuff, whereas I'm not. But yeah, so it was good. It was fine. Rome.
00:14:19
Speaker 2: I really didn't like too many people. It's Jubilee year this year, though, so that makes sense. Sorry, I'm trying to get this through this as quickly as possible. No need to ever go back to Rome and then Sorrento, as I said, favorite part beautiful. We then went from Italy to Oh, Pompeii, amazing down in Naples in Italy.
00:14:36
Speaker 3: Went to Pompeii.
00:14:38
Speaker 2: That was such a bucket list moment for me, I've loved you know, we've spoken on the podcast before about how I'm obsessed with natural disasters in the best way, Like I find them so interesting. So Pompei is so interesting to me. I loved that Greece loved Santorini. Mickinos didn't really connect with. But Mickinos is like a party island, and that's not Sky and mys vibe.
00:14:57
Speaker 3: We just want to relax.
00:14:58
Speaker 2: So everyone else was in a party mood, but we just wanted to sit by the pool. Then we went to Barcelona, as you know I already spoke about that. Then we went to Nice south of France. That's where we did our Paris sailing and that was amazing. I don't believe you did that, neither can I. I didn't want to, but by the end of it, I had watched it for three days and so I was like, diskuy.
00:15:17
Speaker 3: Like stuff that I'm going to do it.
00:15:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd sussed the risk factor because my thing was I was scared that when you hit the water, the parachute would like drown you. Like I'm like, what if the equipment sinks and like pulls you down with it. You're not you can't get back up, you can't.
00:15:35
Speaker 3: Get back to the surface.
00:15:36
Speaker 2: But I watched enough that I was confident that we would survive, and we barely did. But anyway, nice was really beautiful south of France. I'd definitely go back to. We planned to explore a bit more and go to cann and Monaco and Saint Trepe, but by the time we got there, we're now seven weeks into the trip, and we were like, we are not moving at all, and then we ended in Paris. Paris was a little bit like New York vibes the first time around, how I was just so tired that I couldn't really enjoy it. But I did enjoy Paris. I just know that I need to hopefully go back one day. And we didn't have time to kind of just walk around and explore and enjoy and immerse ourself.
00:16:13
Speaker 3: In Paris.
00:16:14
Speaker 2: We kind of were like, right, love, get up go to the go to here, go to here, go to hear Disneyland Paris. Now we're doing the day trip to Belgium, which you all know I loved if you saw that vlog.
00:16:23
Speaker 3: And then it was like get up.
00:16:24
Speaker 2: Palace of a Side, Galleries Lafayette let's go, Like, we just had a hundred things on our to do list and only a few days to do it.
00:16:30
Speaker 1: I was laughing at you on your story in the museum when you were like, this is definitely fake.
00:16:37
Speaker 3: I did that for the scrollers.
00:16:38
Speaker 2: I love that, and so yeah, Paris was good, but I was really just exhausted, and by that point, I was like, I just want to go home. It's been eight weeks, but I know that I can go back, hopefully in the future and do a little bit more and.
00:16:55
Speaker 3: Just just walk around.
00:16:57
Speaker 2: I just want to let you know, I feel like I really fall in love with the cities like Venice. I really fell in love with because I just had time to walk and explore and actually just go into this shop or stop at whatever random cafe I passed.
00:17:09
Speaker 3: Oh and there's a gelato or a canoli. Oh, let me have one.
00:17:12
Speaker 2: Whereas Paris, we didn't have time to do that because we had so many things on the list, but we ticked them all off, so next time we don't have to do any of that.
00:17:19
Speaker 3: So yeah, lovely, lovely, lovely.
00:17:22
Speaker 2: I will say it's very interesting because I've always been you know, especially since the pandemic when I literally didn't have a dollar to my name and was on job secret and all the rest of that. Ever since then, that kind of you know, during the pandemic, I was doing the Barefoot Investor. I was reading all the financial books because I was like, I never want to be in a position where I've got no money again, and that's really helped me be able to travel and.
00:17:46
Speaker 3: Do all these things that we've been saving for for a few years.
00:17:49
Speaker 2: I will say, time to get that Barefoot Investor book back at because oh my god, ol, I've never had I haven't had such little money since the pandemic. I'm I'm going a bit, you know, I'm like, oh, thank God for Dove sponsoring this bloody episode because Australia is because Glamorizon is broke, darl She's broke, So I I'm very That's probably also the reason I'm very excited to be back because two months without I mean, I was very lucky to work with a few brands over there, but two months without making any money. Really, honey, she's got she's wretched, full steam ahead, dol big call out, any brands want to work with me?
00:18:29
Speaker 3: I am available.
00:18:30
Speaker 1: Did you see that all of a sudden doing six sponsored posts a day on Instagram.
00:18:34
Speaker 2: You know why, please like, comment and just ignore me. We asked him the Scrollers chat if anyone had any questions. Is there anything I haven't covered? Because MICHAELA said, we want to hear you harp on about Europe even more than America. Don't worry, dol America's done. You'll talk about that again.
00:18:50
Speaker 1: He's going to be bringing up Europe for the next six months at the last.
00:18:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got to get me money's worth. True.
00:18:57
Speaker 1: Lucy wants to know what the flight's are like because it's such a it's a long like what is the total travel time by the time you get all the flights?
00:19:04
Speaker 2: So just actual flying time in the air I think was about twenty two to twenty three hours.
00:19:11
Speaker 1: You've got your layovers in between.
00:19:13
Speaker 2: And you've got the time waiting in the airport and whatnot, So it is a.
00:19:16
Speaker 1: Lot of the time you actually get there. What it's like thirty something hours.
00:19:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so the way over, we obviously stopped in Singapore, which I forgot to mention loved Singapore. Would definitely go back as soon as possible. That's a really easy flight too. It's like eight hours.
00:19:29
Speaker 1: All looked really cool.
00:19:30
Speaker 3: It was.
00:19:31
Speaker 2: I really really liked it and I can't wait to go back and explore more of that.
00:19:35
Speaker 3: As I said, easy to get to, so you know.
00:19:39
Speaker 1: I love but when you're in Australia, it's like, oh, that's the easy flight, it's only eight hours. You imagine if we lived in Europe, where everywhere is like one hour literally easy flight eight hours.
00:19:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, there were some flights I was doing to another country that were literally twenty three.
00:19:54
Speaker 3: Minutes, Like how crazy is that? The flights were good.
00:19:58
Speaker 2: Singapore was great to break up the first leg, but coming back I was very nervous because we went London Heathrow to Singapore hour and a half stopover before then flying back to Sydney, so it's basically all in one go, and I really thought I would struggle, but it was fine. Granted I was in premium economy, so maybe that made a difference.
00:20:17
Speaker 3: I don't know.
00:20:18
Speaker 2: If I was in economy, maybe it would have been different story. But I actually felt very comfortable. I slept most of the first flight, which was the fourteen fifteen hour one, and then of course I had that eight hour flight home which I didn't sleep. On and I didn't get bored at all. I had a few books to read, and I hadn't read much during the holiday because you're so go, go go, and especially those days, even when you do have a bit of time, you know, of a night, I don't want to pick up a book.
00:20:44
Speaker 3: My brain is exhausted.
00:20:46
Speaker 2: So yeah, I had some books to read and I was very excited to read, so I didn't get bored at all. I could absolutely do that flight. I thought it was fine. And Quantas doesn't do Wi Fi on flights international, which on one hand, I'm like, get with the times, girls, But on the other hand, I was like, it's actually really nice to not have any notifications and actually not be attached to my phone and be forced to not be online. So I really like that last question we have, Carly wants to know the thing you spent a crazy amount of money on and was it worth it. I actually have done a video on this, which should be posted by the time this episode comes out. And that was the Mulan rouge for the two of us for dinner and a show was about one thousand Australian dollars. Oh my, yeah, So I think it came to about nine hundred and thirty aud and that includes the dinner, three course dinner, and then the show itself. You would have seen it, I know, but of course Mulan Rouge, I've got to go and see it. So we honestly didn't expect to do we we we we We're in Paris, b But yeah, we didn't expect to have to pay that much and it was a bit of a like whoa. When we were booking it. We were like, we did not budget for this. The show, yes, the dinner, absolutely not. The dinner was honestly nothing to write home about. I said in the video that I made a Cole's barbecue chalk was better than the chicken that I had there. The entree was crap. The dessert looked amazing, it was crap. The experience is weird. You like crammed in next to the people, like shoulder to shoulder. It just wasn't an enjoyable experience. The waiters feel like they're just trying to slam your food down and get on with it. And it was just really really rushed, and we both were decide eyeing each other, and then I was actually really worried that the show would be so bad and the first few minutes of the show, I went, oh God, what have we gotten into because they just come out and do this really weird dance number that I'm like, no, this is bizarre.
00:22:51
Speaker 3: I'm gonna hate my life.
00:22:52
Speaker 2: And then after the first number, from then on I was hooked and it was amazing. The show ten out of ten. Definitely recommend going to the show, but you don't need the dinner. It was incredible. And then I actually had someone message who is from Newcastle and she messaged me saying, I think I just saw you in the audience at the Mulan Rouge. I'm like one of the dances on stage and I was like, how amazing that you are from Newcastle and you've gone all the way to the Mulan Rouge and she's like, yeah, sometimes you like forget how incredible that is. And I'm like, you should be so proud, like this is wild.
00:23:26
Speaker 3: That is amazing, and they're all.
00:23:27
Speaker 2: So talented, and it was just everything I wanted it to be and more and I still had, you know, the show made up for the dinner.
00:23:36
Speaker 3: That's how good the show was. Because I left.
00:23:38
Speaker 2: Being like that was worth every cent and I kind of forgot about the dinner. So if you do go, and you do want to see the Mulin rouge, I would say, go out for a nice dinner somewhere else nearby and make your way to the show.
00:23:51
Speaker 1: At the end, Oh nice, you got good, Master, Well, a special thanks to Dove's Whole Body Doo for help Thinks recorded today's fresh episode, and we'll be back soon with more mains, more bonuses, and we're gonna need to do some more quick whips match.
00:24:08
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:24:08
Speaker 2: Absolutely, but until next time, book a book ab
