00:00:05.120 --> 00:00:20.879
Many people feel a quiet pull toward something more meaningful, yet stay stuck trying to make life work through effort, logic, and the external approval.
00:00:21.280 --> 00:00:30.480
Dear listeners, today's conversation is about what happens when we stop forcing and start trusting.
00:00:31.120 --> 00:00:31.760
Right.
00:00:32.240 --> 00:00:45.359
So hey everyone, welcome back to another powerful episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, a podcast for honest conversations about mental clarity, emotional well-being, and living with intention.
00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:48.079
And today I'm joined by a lovely guest.
00:00:48.240 --> 00:00:49.920
Please welcome Anzul Kelly.
00:00:50.000 --> 00:00:51.200
Welcome to the show.
00:00:51.679 --> 00:00:54.079
Hi, thank you for having me, Avic.
00:00:54.640 --> 00:00:55.520
Amazing.
00:00:55.840 --> 00:01:00.719
So, dear listeners, before we delve deep into a discussion today, I'll quickly love to introduce with Anzu.
00:01:01.280 --> 00:01:13.920
So, Anzu is a spiritual guide, intuitive, and the honest, I'd say, uh honestly, I'd say she's the host of the Spirit Club podcast.
00:01:14.159 --> 00:01:14.799
Yes.
00:01:15.280 --> 00:01:32.560
And in this episode, we will explore the intuition, surrendering to God's path, and also how releasing limiting beliefs can support mental peace and a healthier relationship with ourselves and our lives.
00:01:33.200 --> 00:01:34.239
So why do you wait?
00:01:34.319 --> 00:01:34.879
Let's get started.
00:01:34.959 --> 00:01:36.159
Welcome to the show again.
00:01:36.560 --> 00:01:37.280
Thank you.
00:01:37.519 --> 00:01:39.280
And great, great intro.
00:01:39.439 --> 00:01:45.120
I love what you had to say about you know, thank you, not forcing and allowing flow.
00:01:45.200 --> 00:01:46.560
That's what I'm all about.
00:01:47.120 --> 00:01:48.319
Yeah, definitely.
00:01:48.560 --> 00:01:49.040
Definitely.
00:01:49.519 --> 00:02:04.640
So to start with your journey includes the burnout and uh feeling deeply stuck and eventually learning to trust your intuition and God uh in a new way, right?
00:02:04.799 --> 00:02:12.719
So, um what was life like mentally and emotionally just before that inner shift happened?
00:02:13.439 --> 00:02:14.000
Yeah.
00:02:14.240 --> 00:02:27.680
So that was at a time in my life where I was um, I had recently graduated university, I'd studied to be a geologist, and I was trying to get a job, and I could not get a job.
00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:31.840
I was like, I was so dead set on this career.
00:02:32.000 --> 00:02:34.400
I had struggled through university.
00:02:35.039 --> 00:02:47.680
You know, little did I realize at the time I was getting signs from God all the time that that wasn't the direction for me, but I was forcing and I was pushing, and then I couldn't get a job, and that was devastating.
00:02:47.919 --> 00:02:54.000
Devastating because I had put all of my worth into that career, into that path.
00:02:54.479 --> 00:02:56.479
And God was trying to redirect me.
00:02:56.639 --> 00:02:58.719
And so it was a real dark night.
00:02:58.879 --> 00:03:05.919
It was a real um difficult time, but luckily it pushed me to turn inward.
00:03:07.759 --> 00:03:17.120
I I I I would say here that um like many people think that intuition is a kind of vague or unreliable.
00:03:17.520 --> 00:03:20.879
Uh but from your experience, what do you think?
00:03:20.960 --> 00:03:26.719
Like, what is the biggest misunderstanding that people have about trusting themselves?
00:03:29.280 --> 00:03:33.520
Biggest misunderstanding people have about trusting themselves.
00:03:34.000 --> 00:03:40.879
Well, I would um I would rephrase that and say the biggest blocks people have about trusting themselves.
00:03:41.280 --> 00:03:46.479
Um because that's what's really getting in the way of the possibility.
00:03:46.639 --> 00:03:57.599
And I would say the biggest blocks off the top of my head, the first one would be the belief that if I trust myself, something bad will happen.
00:03:57.759 --> 00:04:01.039
I'll make a mistake, I'll fail, something like that.
00:04:02.159 --> 00:04:11.520
The second one would be if I trust myself, uh, like I have to make the most perfect decision.
00:04:11.680 --> 00:04:14.000
I have to make the most right decision.
00:04:14.159 --> 00:04:17.600
And that's really blocking them from trusting themselves.
00:04:18.160 --> 00:04:39.680
And then the third big one, and this one's a little um surprising, but if you the the third block would be if you believe that the needs of others is more important than the needs of yourself, you are not likely to trust yourself because you're always putting someone else before you and your needs.
00:04:40.319 --> 00:04:48.639
So I would say those are the three biggest things I've seen in my work getting in the way of people trusting themselves and their intuition.
00:04:50.399 --> 00:04:50.959
Got it.
00:04:51.120 --> 00:04:51.600
Got it.
00:04:51.759 --> 00:04:56.879
And how does ignoring that intuition affect the mental health over time?
00:04:58.240 --> 00:05:04.560
You are likely going to walk a path, live a life that is not truly aligned.
00:05:05.759 --> 00:05:10.240
Because your intuition is going to lead you down the path that is the most aligned.
00:05:10.399 --> 00:05:17.439
But if you are ignoring it, you're likely going to be forcing different paths that need a blueprint that is not yours.
00:05:17.680 --> 00:05:26.240
It's more like a blueprint that was designed by the family you grew up in, the society you grew up in, the community, whatever that happens to be.
00:05:26.480 --> 00:05:29.199
That's the going to be the blueprint you try to live.
00:05:29.360 --> 00:05:33.839
And that is quite likely not the blueprint you're meant to live.
00:05:36.079 --> 00:05:36.879
Got it.
00:05:37.439 --> 00:05:48.560
So I mean, I have to say that that disconnect between the, I would say, inner knowing and daily choices often shows up as anxiety or restlessness.
00:05:49.360 --> 00:05:50.079
Am I correct?
00:05:50.560 --> 00:05:51.519
Oh, yeah.
00:05:51.759 --> 00:05:53.279
How does that show up?
00:05:53.439 --> 00:05:54.879
The disconnect.
00:05:55.519 --> 00:05:57.519
I love what you said about restlessness.
00:05:57.600 --> 00:06:04.160
There's a lot of that because there's this, there's this unease with like, I'm not quite living the way I want.
00:06:04.319 --> 00:06:12.079
So restlessness, also disappointment, which can look like depression in a lot of cases, right?
00:06:12.160 --> 00:06:15.600
If we're really not on a path that's meant for us.
00:06:16.000 --> 00:06:18.480
Um, other mental health challenges.
00:06:18.639 --> 00:06:26.240
I mean, if you're ignoring your intuition, then you're less in your heart and your body, and you're more in your mind.
00:06:26.319 --> 00:06:33.120
So that might look like anxiety, erasing thoughts, over-analytical, all that sort of thing, stress.
00:06:34.959 --> 00:06:35.279
Okay.
00:06:35.680 --> 00:06:42.720
And like uh, let's uh say that let's talk about the uh root causes or maybe the deeper patterns.
00:06:42.959 --> 00:06:53.519
Why do you think like why do you think so many people struggle to trust God or themselves even when they feel like called to something more?
00:06:53.920 --> 00:06:54.639
Mm-hmm.
00:06:56.079 --> 00:06:57.439
Yeah, okay.
00:06:57.759 --> 00:07:00.480
So there's trusting God and there's trusting ourselves.
00:07:00.639 --> 00:07:00.800
Yeah.
00:07:01.040 --> 00:07:02.959
And like they're a little bit intertwined.
00:07:03.120 --> 00:07:07.040
I would say trusting ourselves are some of those big blocks I talked about earlier.
00:07:07.279 --> 00:07:18.079
But why people struggle to trust God and where God is leading them, I would say the biggest reason is because of our basic survival instincts, right?
00:07:18.240 --> 00:07:27.040
Our basic survival instincts say, like, the more that I can control and the more that I know, the more likely I'll survive.
00:07:27.439 --> 00:07:33.279
And trusting God requires you to hand over that control to God.
00:07:33.600 --> 00:07:39.279
Hand over that control to God and be like, okay, God, I trust where it is that you're gonna leave me.
00:07:39.439 --> 00:07:43.680
And therefore, they're handing over like a survival in some cases.
00:07:44.000 --> 00:07:47.439
And although that's not true, it's what we perceive to be true.
00:07:47.600 --> 00:08:03.199
If I'm handing over where my career is gonna go, how I'm gonna make money, who I'm going to fall in love with, if I'm handing that over, I may perceive that as a threat to my survival, which is what makes it so difficult to trust in God.
00:08:05.519 --> 00:08:10.000
And what beliefs tend to keep people playing small the longest?
00:08:12.800 --> 00:08:15.519
What beliefs tend to keep people playing small?
00:08:16.560 --> 00:08:26.560
So I would say the first one being beliefs that come with self-doubt, so I'm not enough, I'm not good enough, I'm not special enough.
00:08:26.879 --> 00:08:27.199
Okay.
00:08:28.079 --> 00:08:30.720
Imposter beliefs, so I don't belong.
00:08:32.159 --> 00:08:35.919
Victim beliefs, so like the world is out to get me.
00:08:36.720 --> 00:08:40.240
Things won't work out for me, so that's gonna keep me playing small.
00:08:40.399 --> 00:08:48.399
And then another one that I see a lot of are like the beliefs of I'm gonna call it the martyr, which are like others matter more than me.
00:08:48.639 --> 00:08:55.759
If I do something for myself for my path, I'm gonna be hurting another person.
00:08:57.039 --> 00:08:58.720
Okay, okay.
00:08:59.759 --> 00:09:03.759
So you can say, like, we're talking about beliefs in a lot of different ways, right?
00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:11.919
We're like talking about beliefs that block you from trusting yourself, beliefs that keep you small, beliefs that stop you from trusting the universe.
00:09:12.080 --> 00:09:17.120
And I just want to kind of tie it all together with the reason we're talking about that.
00:09:17.279 --> 00:09:17.600
Yeah.
00:09:18.080 --> 00:09:30.320
Is because when you want change, when you want something in your life that you are not getting, what is standing between you and what you want is this belief, is this block.
00:09:30.480 --> 00:09:35.120
I call them interchangeable limiting belief and a block, same thing.
00:09:35.840 --> 00:09:43.600
And that belief lives in your subconscious, but it creates your thoughts, your emotions, and your behaviors.
00:09:43.840 --> 00:09:47.519
So it's sort of like the the system that's running the show.
00:09:47.679 --> 00:09:54.159
So if I'm holding that, if I don't address the belief, I can address the thoughts, the feelings, and the behaviors all day long.
00:09:54.240 --> 00:09:58.240
But if I don't address what's running them, change won't happen.
00:09:59.200 --> 00:10:00.000
Exactly.
00:10:00.240 --> 00:10:01.120
Exactly true.
00:10:01.279 --> 00:10:07.360
So I mean, those beliefs often sound logical on the surface level, but they feel very heavy in the body.
00:10:07.679 --> 00:10:08.799
Is it true?
00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:11.519
Yeah, that's a great point.
00:10:11.679 --> 00:10:16.960
I think that's a good indicator of a belief that is not serving you, right?
00:10:17.200 --> 00:10:20.799
Because beliefs are not facts, they are not facts.
00:10:20.960 --> 00:10:24.000
We know that because I can believe one thing and you can believe another.
00:10:24.399 --> 00:10:25.200
So they're not facts.
00:10:25.360 --> 00:10:27.600
I had this conversation with a podcast guest the other day.
00:10:27.840 --> 00:10:35.279
And so that means that at some point or another, a belief may serve me, and then at another point it might not serve me anymore.
00:10:35.360 --> 00:10:38.240
And how to know when one is no longer serving me?
00:10:38.399 --> 00:10:46.240
Well, maybe a great, as you said, a great indication would be to see how does it feel in the body when I connect to that belief.
00:10:48.159 --> 00:10:48.639
Agree.
00:10:48.879 --> 00:10:49.600
Totally agree.
00:10:49.679 --> 00:10:50.000
Yeah.
00:10:51.360 --> 00:10:59.120
In our everyday life, how does the mistrust in oneself show up mentally or emotionally?
00:11:00.159 --> 00:11:00.799
Yeah.
00:11:01.759 --> 00:11:04.000
How does the mistrust show up?
00:11:05.039 --> 00:11:10.799
So folks who don't trust themselves, there are some like general habits that I see.
00:11:11.039 --> 00:11:17.200
Um one is they will often look outside of themselves for answers.
00:11:17.440 --> 00:11:26.879
So they're gonna look, they're gonna browse the internet, they're gonna go to podcasts, they're gonna ask all their friends, like they're gonna look outside of themselves for answers.
00:11:26.960 --> 00:11:38.240
So they are externally referenced, which is dangerous, of IC, because the more externally referenced you are, the easier you are to control by the powers that be, right?
00:11:38.399 --> 00:11:45.440
They can just like feed you whatever narrative they want and you'll take it because you don't have the trust within yourself.
00:11:46.480 --> 00:11:49.519
So that's one thing that I definitely see.
00:11:49.759 --> 00:11:59.039
Um another sign that you don't trust yourself is you struggle to make big changes, big decisions.
00:12:00.240 --> 00:12:05.200
If you don't trust yourself, you probably don't make big changes in your life.
00:12:05.360 --> 00:12:06.960
You probably don't instigate them.
00:12:07.200 --> 00:12:15.759
Big changes only happen in your life when they are thrust upon you because you don't trust yourself enough to make that decision.
00:12:16.320 --> 00:12:18.240
So those are two big ones.
00:12:18.480 --> 00:12:19.279
I could go on.
00:12:19.440 --> 00:12:21.600
There's a lot of signs that we don't trust ourselves.
00:12:22.000 --> 00:12:23.440
Definitely correct.
00:12:23.919 --> 00:12:31.440
And what are the subtle signs that uh someone is forcing a path instead of uh being guided?
00:12:32.639 --> 00:12:33.120
Great.
00:12:33.279 --> 00:12:37.759
I love the word that you use subtle signs because it can be subtle, Avic.
00:12:38.080 --> 00:12:38.399
Yeah.
00:12:38.559 --> 00:12:44.559
Um, when we're forcing a path, you could say we are following the ego.
00:12:44.799 --> 00:12:49.679
And when we're being guided, we're following the higher self, the soul, God.
00:12:49.840 --> 00:12:52.559
We can kind of use all those words interchangeably.
00:12:53.039 --> 00:13:04.240
And so the subtle signs that I'm following my ego, um, will achieving this thing, will going down this path like fill a hole inside me, right?
00:13:04.399 --> 00:13:14.559
Like, am I looking to fill a wound of not being good enough, of um being valuable, of whatever that thing may be?
00:13:15.039 --> 00:13:16.879
That is a subtle sign.
00:13:17.039 --> 00:13:30.559
Um, another one would be if you're going down a path and like you keep meeting resistance, things are not working, like similar to the story I was telling you, as I was trying to be a geologist, I was meeting nothing but resistance.
00:13:30.639 --> 00:13:34.799
And I was bullheaded, full force ahead, going for it.
00:13:34.879 --> 00:13:37.679
Like it was the only thing that mattered in the world.
00:13:38.240 --> 00:13:41.679
So you will often like God will try to redirect you.
00:13:41.919 --> 00:13:46.879
God will try to pivot you, God will try to help you see things differently, whatever that happens to be.
00:13:47.039 --> 00:13:53.679
And if you are just forcing it, um you'll meet a lot of that resistance.
00:13:53.919 --> 00:14:01.519
So those are some subtle signs, maybe not so subtle always, that uh that you're forcing overflowing.
00:14:02.879 --> 00:14:03.840
Exactly.
00:14:04.960 --> 00:14:14.960
For someone who is listening who feels blogged or maybe overwhelmed, um, where does learning to trust intuition practically begin?
00:14:16.799 --> 00:14:18.720
Got a lot of practical exercises.
00:14:18.879 --> 00:14:24.559
I would say Okay, a really great one to start with is in your phone.
00:14:24.879 --> 00:14:33.039
Create a list, call it intuitive hits, and every time you get one, every time you get an intuitive hit, just write it down.
00:14:33.279 --> 00:14:35.200
I'm not even asking you to act on it.
00:14:35.279 --> 00:14:37.440
I'm asking you to just write it down.
00:14:37.759 --> 00:14:38.559
Log it.
00:14:38.879 --> 00:14:44.960
Because what you're gonna do over time is you're gonna write these intuitive hits down, and then you're gonna prove yourself right.
00:14:45.200 --> 00:14:49.120
And now you you may get an intuitive hit and you may do the opposite.
00:14:49.279 --> 00:14:49.840
That's fine.
00:14:49.919 --> 00:14:51.519
You can learn the hard way all day long.
00:14:51.600 --> 00:14:54.399
That's another, honestly, it's a great way to learn.
00:14:54.799 --> 00:15:01.039
So you make this list and you basically like reflect back to yourself that you can trust yourself.
00:15:01.200 --> 00:15:02.639
Does that make sense?
00:15:03.200 --> 00:15:03.759
Makes sense.
00:15:03.919 --> 00:15:04.639
That makes sense.
00:15:05.039 --> 00:15:05.279
Yeah.
00:15:05.360 --> 00:15:10.720
So I would say that's a good, like practical, like very grounded way to start to work with intuition.
00:15:10.960 --> 00:15:19.679
And then the more obvious way, maybe obvious to me, I don't know if it's obvious, is um practicing through meditation.
00:15:20.000 --> 00:15:26.159
So meditation, I'm sure you guys talk about it a lot on this podcast about the healthy mind, after all.
00:15:26.320 --> 00:15:46.240
Um the reason I'm specifically directing towards meditation for intuition is because when you slow those brain waves, you are it's easier for you to access both the subconscious mind and the superconscious mind.
00:15:46.320 --> 00:15:57.519
So we slow those brain waves, we make some quiet time to hear ourselves, to commune with our intuition, our higher self, God, any of the above.
00:15:57.679 --> 00:16:09.360
Um, so starting a meditation practice, I have a little, um, I have a couple of meditations on my YouTube and also on the Spirit Club podcast, I've got one that helps specifically with intuition.
00:16:09.519 --> 00:16:12.399
So I think that's another great place to start.
00:16:12.720 --> 00:16:14.159
That's really amazing.
00:16:14.399 --> 00:16:20.559
And surrender can feel scary sometimes, and especially when mental security comes from control.
00:16:21.039 --> 00:16:27.919
So, um, how do you help people move through fear while also trusting the God's path?
00:16:28.240 --> 00:16:28.720
Mm-hmm.
00:16:29.120 --> 00:16:29.759
Yeah.
00:16:30.559 --> 00:16:35.919
So, you know, I'm never gonna ask someone to move where they're truly too afraid to go.
00:16:36.080 --> 00:16:36.720
You know what I mean?
00:16:36.799 --> 00:16:38.159
Like you have to want.
00:16:38.639 --> 00:16:41.519
You have to want to work with God in that way.
00:16:41.679 --> 00:16:45.679
I'm not gonna, I'm not going to pressure anyone to work with God in that way.
00:16:45.840 --> 00:16:49.840
But to your point, the first place you always need to start is the nervous system.
00:16:50.159 --> 00:16:58.080
We need to get that nervous system feeling safe enough to hand over the driving wheel to God, right?
00:16:58.240 --> 00:17:05.119
Like if you are, if your nervous system is in a constant state of fight or flight, no way you're gonna give up that control.
00:17:05.440 --> 00:17:06.160
And that's okay.
00:17:06.319 --> 00:17:10.240
So great first place to start, nervous system.
00:17:10.640 --> 00:17:15.599
Um, and then something, an exercise that has worked really well for me.
00:17:15.839 --> 00:17:18.960
When I am trying to surrender something big.
00:17:19.200 --> 00:17:31.599
For example, Evic, I, you know, less than a year ago, I quit my job, sold everything, and moved from Canada to Greece, all because of God's guidance.
00:17:31.920 --> 00:17:41.440
So I was really surrendering a big life, a big um path that I'd committed to and I'd put a lot of time into in my whole life.
00:17:41.680 --> 00:17:50.720
Um, and in order for me to do that, the exercise that I used was I think of the worst case scenario for me.
00:17:50.960 --> 00:17:56.480
Okay, so let's say the worst case scenario for me at that time was, okay, I'm gonna quit my job.
00:17:56.640 --> 00:18:00.319
Worst case scenario is I'll never be able to find a job again.
00:18:00.480 --> 00:18:05.759
I will spend all my savings and I will have to move back home and move in with my parents.
00:18:06.079 --> 00:18:06.400
Okay.
00:18:07.200 --> 00:18:15.119
So if that's my worst case scenario, I just I start to normalize and get comfortable with my worst case scenario.
00:18:15.279 --> 00:18:30.079
And when I'm able to do that, once that comfort load, once it's not the most triggering, scary thing to me, then I'm able to surrender that control and take the leap because I I've like made peace with my worst case scenario.
00:18:31.279 --> 00:18:32.240
Exactly.
00:18:32.640 --> 00:18:37.440
For the listeners who want to explore your book or connect with you, where can they find you?
