Will Smith - Green Lanterns Podcast: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Green Lanterns Podcast. I'm your host, as always, Will Smith of Sector SDCC. And that is what I present to you guys today. It is all the latest and greatest news surrounding lanterns when it comes to SDCC. Now, the first bit of news we got came from the SDCC blog where they released basically the first news around Merchandise that you will be able to pick up at SDCC. They write, looking to add some extra green to your wardrobe of Head of Lanterns, you can shop inspired items including the Oath Bomber Jacket and Collector's Power Ring sizes 9 through 12, as well as apparel tied to DC Studios upcoming film Clayface. What you can see in the picture is the lantern's ring. You can also see the power battery keychain, which I think looks amazing. We'll get into that in a sec. But then they mention the first thing that they brought up was the Oath Bomber jacket. From what I'm hearing, there will be many things sold at SDCC that is lanterns related. Whether it's the ring, whether it's the keychain, potentially some other items that haven't been shared yet, so I don't want to break the news. A lot of these things will also be sold on the DC shop on the lanterns page. Not everything will. And because there is no picture of it yet, I do believe that the Lantern's Oath Bomber Jacket will be one of them. Since we don't have the image for that or the description for it really, let's go ahead and give you guys a better look at what the ring looks like. And there you have it, nice up close. It looks okay. It's not the most show accurate ring I've ever seen. It doesn't look like the world's best made ring. I've ever seen fitting of the lantern core. But it looks okay. And ideally, for something you will have to spend somewhere between $50 and $100 on. It's not too bad. And it will be official DC merch, so at least you're getting it, you know, from DC itself. Is it anywhere near the quality of the Ring Foundry ring? No, absolutely not. But To get this Ring Foundry ring, you're paying close to, or in some cases, depending on shipping, it might be over $300. This ring, a lot nicer, lights up, feels very weathered on the sides. It's got a lot of weight to it. Honestly, it's like a perfect ring. It's basically a one for one replica of what they have in the show. It looks amazing. I I have no complaints. I wear it out all the time. I love it. And it's one of the few rings that while I'm wearing you can definitely notice other people looking at it. So that's the ring that will be for sale at San Diego Comic Con. What about that keychain battery we were looking at a minute ago? Now this thing I know a lot of people when it comes to the power battery, people were hoping that it was maybe Alan Scott's and not really going to be used by the Green Lanterns in the show. I think it's obviously going to be the one that you see Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart using in the show. The keychain, I actually think is really, really sick. When you look at this thing, this looks like high quality. Now, maybe it won't feel that way. It won't have some weight and it won't feel well made, but just from the pictures that we have looking at it, I think it looks basically exactly like they have for the show. But it just looks like a high quality, well-made product that like you'd be stoked to have. The one thing I really love about it is you can see here it's got the green lantern logo on the front. Couple things about it. First is I saw a theory online that said maybe the reason the GL ring in the show has the yellow around it is because it's got the yellow on the the actual lantern, and you know, you gotta push it into the lantern to recharge the the battery of the ring itself. ⁓ You know, the yellow or the gold on the lantern ring is because it's an honor guard ring. And since John is being recruited specifically by the Guardians, that he's going straight from nothing to Honor Guard Green Lantern. And that's why it's more of like a ornamental piece ring rather than like what you would get to start with like all the other Green Lanterns. Now, that's all of the merch that they have officially shown pictures for. But they again make mention of other things that will be on site and available for sale. And then there's an event that's happening where there will be more merch for lanterns on sale. But let's go ahead and break down what the next little bit of news is. So after we get the merch out of the way, what's the big pieces we need to go over? And let's get right into it. That is that lanterns is going to be, as I predicted since last year, heavily featured at San Diego Comic-Con. How heavily? Not only will there be exclusive merch for the show, but we are also getting a Hall H panel officially for Lanterns. What day is it and who's gonna be there? Well, it says Hall H panel. Get a first look at the series with the cast and executive producers. The cast that will be in attendance Kyle Chandler playing Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre playing Jon Stewart, Garrett Dillahunt, and Pornaj Nathan. Playing two original characters in the show that I think people are gonna grow to love. The executive producers would be Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelauff. You guys are all very familiar with them at this point. They will be there as well. Obviously, this is taking place in Hall H, and this will be on Friday from 1 30 to 2 30 p.m. One hour of lanterns. And ⁓ again, it's a first look at the series. And then there was notes that ⁓ there will also be some other like BTS clips and never before seen stuff that they will show off. So if you are one of the lucky people who are attending San Diego Comic-Con, and you are also lucky enough to be able to get in early in the morning so you can wait around for the lanterns panel, you're gonna get to see, you know, the top bill stars, you're gonna see the executive producers that all have big names, and you are gonna get to see stuff before the rest of the world gets to see it when it comes to. The lanterns. This isn't the only thing that they are doing at San Diego Comic-Con. It's not just exclusive merch. It's not just a big Hall H panel. There's also something else that they have going on. That thing is this off-site event that they have going. It says Lanterns Training Headquarters. Take the oath. Show your fearlessness to earn your own Green Lantern ring at venue 808-808-J Street. And It's basically open for the majority of the week. It starts on Thursday at 9 a.m. It'll end Thursday at 6 p.m. But then it opens up again for Friday and Saturday from eleven AM to 9 p.m. And then there's a link for you to go to that is hbo max dot com slash lanterns dash sdcc. How is the venue intended to look? It is this what you see on the screen here, which is ⁓ very CGI inserted. This is not like up and officially how it looks yet. Don't get your hopes up, or don't think that this is like too weird looking. It does look weird. It does look out of place, but that is because this this is just done on somebody's computer. ⁓ But it looks like they want to have a big sign that says lanterns training headquarters. Take the oath, couple of lanterns on the outside, and obviously they're gonna put HBO Max. And DC Studios wherever they can. I've actually been to this venue before for a Rings of Power event ⁓ two years ago. Beautiful place. what they did for Rings of Power was they played some footage, they had food, some of the cast was around, they showed off all the rings from the show. ⁓ they had armors out for the show as well. It was a really great time. Lanterns is doing something a little bit different. Little bit interesting, and I think it's something you don't want to miss. Extra context comes from the SDCC blog.com where they write in brightest day. You'll want to make room on your off-site schedule. HBO Max is bringing the light to San Diego Comic-Con with a lantern's activation. Attendees will be able to immerse themselves in the world of lanterns training headquarters. Before anyone can wear the ring, they'll have to earn it. Recruits will be put through a series of interactive challenges designed to determine Whether they have what it takes to join the Green Lantern Corps. After receiving a briefing from the Guardians, trainees will tackle everything from target practice and trust exercises to maze navigation and escape room style puzzles set inside locations from the series, including the sheriff's office and a dive bar. Those who complete their training will receive a custom Green Lantern ring to take home and Try out their powers using a Snapchat-powered interactive mirror and have the opportunity to shop exclusive lanterns merchandise from WB. Will some of this be the two items that we've already seen, being the ring as well as the keychain? Probably. Will there be other things, lanterns exclusive, that you can only get at this activation? Most likely. And again. I'm not ⁓ at a point where I'm allowed to share the information of what those items could be. I just think that if you are somebody who is interested in lanterns at all and you are around the area, this is something you do not want to miss. But it's also something that might be very easy to miss because of how they're setting it up, how you have to do it to get your tickets. So the link that it takes you to is ⁓ a website. or HBO. It's HBO Max dot com slash lanterns dash SDCC. You load it up here, they got a discount going on, limited time offer for HBO Max. Ignoring that, the rest of the site, what does it look like? Got the pretty lantern ring, that poster, the nice green background. It says do you have what it takes? The Guardians are searching for civilians in Sector 2814 who believe they are fit to become the next Green Lantern. Should you meet that criteria, you will be admitted into our training experience and invited to the Lanterns training headquarters at San Diego Comic Con. There, you will undergo a series of challenges that will test your fearlessness. Then it's got the where, which is San Diego Comic-Con, the When, I already gave you the dates, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, hours ranging between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or for Friday, Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations open on the 13th of July at 9 a.m. Pacific or noon here on the East Coast. You will have to reserve your slot. If you do not get your reservation, This is one of those off-site activations you do not just walk up to and get to enter. So highly recommend if you are interested in this at all. Please do everything you can to make sure you are awake, alert, at the ready. Tabs open, keyboards ready to go, got your screens ready if you're doing it from your phone. Get to the site on the 13th, maybe a little bit before 9 a.m. Pacific. So you can hit that refresh. Right as it goes live and try to get tickets to the activation for whatever time suits you. But yeah, that's everything that has been officially announced so far. It's it's rings, but not this one. It's the keychain, it's the bomber jacket, it's that we're getting something at Hall H. We know the actors and the executive producers who are going to be there to advertise lanterns, show us some footage that the rest of the world has not seen yet. Maybe they'll post it a little bit after, you know. People at Hall H get to see it. And then there's that off site activation that will be open for three days. If you can be at SDCC and you are interested in lanterns at all, this is a can't miss experience. You gotta be there. Will I be there? Who knows? Still trying to dot some I's and cross some T's. Maybe we'll have an announcement here soon on the If Your Boy Green Lanterns podcast will be attending SDCC this year. I hope to be. And I hope to see you guys there if I am. As for what other Green Lantern stuff there is to do at San Diego Comic Con, I'll go ahead and drop a video later in the week next week, giving a rundown of all the other things, whether that's who's available at the artist alley, who's doing panels, who's set up for autographs, and what other merch Green Lantern related there might be at SDCC. If these are things you're interested in Let me know in the comments below. And if you're gonna be at San Diego Comic Con, please let me know in the comments below. And if I can make it out there, let's find a way to link up chit chat. There's nothing like getting together with a bunch of fellow nerds who are interested in Green Lantern, just shooting the crap about Green Lantern. I'm excited for lanterns. I'm excited for Comic-Com. I'm excited that we're finally going to get even more new footage. Hopefully, a full official trailer. And then we are Right around the corner from the actual launch of lanterns with every Sunday that passes that we get through House of the Dragon, we are one Sunday closer to lanterns finally airing. That's it for me. I'll catch you guys on the next one. Peace.
