Are you desperately wanting to take control of your life and to change behaviors that you've been repeatedly doing or avoiding? for months or even years. Did you know that around 95% about thoughts, feelings, and actions each day? are actually generated by our subconscious, 95%. That is a lot of our behavior that is being run by our conscious. In this episode, we're going to look at something reasonably simple that you can do each evening to help feed positive messages to your subconscious and to help take control of the direction your life is heading. So why is the evening and More particularly when you're lying in bed, working towards going to sleep, a good time to be sending positive affirmations towards your subconscious? Well, when you are actually asleep, your subconscious mind is still actively processing information and creating new programs to keep you running safely the next day. And, unfortunately, a lot of people spend time when they're lying in bed waiting to go to sleep to review their day and go over all of the things that did not work out the way they wanted them to. And any arguments they had to get rerun and dissected over and over again, Man, there may even be nasty thoughts about bad things happening to people who've been mean to you. The problem with this is that your subconscious is diligently listening to all of this and taking a instructions for how you want your life to be, and to provide you with more of the same, which is exactly what you don't want.
So, positive statements are definitely the way to go. Now, earlier, I mentioned safety. because the subconscious has a kind of prime directive, if you will, which is to keep you safe. And while you may think that everybody will have the same definition of save, nothing could be further from the truth. The definition of safe that each person's subconscious is running with is based initially on what happened in your early childhood. and is gradually updated and changed over your life. So the reason why some people have weird things they are scared of is based on the subconscious processing events. When we have experience being afraid or even terrified.
And noticed that I did not say that the event was scary or terrifying. Because it's based on your emotional response, not on the validity of the emotional response. your subconscious is not able to work out what is valid and what is not. It's just running with you've got scary emotions going on. that's bad. I need to do something about it. And it goes off and makes a program to help you avoid that situation. So as an example, there might be a time someone jumped out from behind something, and it scanned you.
Now you weren't actually in danger of being harmed, but your subconscious may have processed it as such. depending upon how scared you were, even if it was only for an instant. So why am I talking about safety and how does this relate to procrastinating about your business? Well, one of the reasons you're procrastinating and taking not taking action on your business, I should say, is because your subconscious has interpreted some perceived threat in the past and equated that to starting a business as being a threat. So in order to protect you from the perceived threat, you're subconscious as busy directing your way from working on your business. with distractions, doing housework, or many other things. So there are many ways we can process this issue. One of the things we can do was suggested by Wayne Dyer in his book wishes fulfilled. He had a whole chapter about doing future based I am affirmations in the last five minutes before you fall asleep.
In order to feed you're subconscious with positive directions about where you want your life to be heading. So based on the Wayne Dyer, chapter, I've actually created a nighttime routine for me that expands on what he was suggesting. So my routine includes deep breathing exercises, and gratitude practice, and then finally, the future based I am affirmations. So the reason why I included the breathing exercises is because I've had issues getting to sleep in the past. So deep breathing helps me relax and move towards sleep. Because when I previously did this, I would do the affirmations faithfully, and then I'd lie in bed and not go to sleep and start thinking negative thoughts. So you get the idea that the deep breathing helps to relax you and prepare you for sleep. I also added the gratitude practice in for two reasons.
The first thing that I really wanted to do a gratitude practice every day, because whenever I've done gratitude thoughts, it's always felt really good and made me feel really good about life. But I've never done it consistently. So the idea of putting it into this was a good idea from my perspective that, you know, if it's something I'm gonna do every night, it's really a good idea to add this in here. The second reason, however, is that, as I mentioned, the gratitude practice connects me with positive emotions. And obviously, in this practice, leads into the I am affirmations. And the more confidently and positively you say those I am statements, this increases the amount that subconscious will take the statements on board. So for instance, when I first doing it, I I think I was saying some of the statements varied intimately because I wasn't believing them. And they weren't as effective, I don't believe.
Whereas when I'm saying them really confidently, and I sounding like I'm really believing that they're true. I felt like it's made more of an impact. Obviously, the more often you repeat the process, night after night, we'll assist with the subconscious taking on board because the subconscious responds to things that you experience over and over again, and things that have, like, strong emotional responses. So both of those can have impact on how well it's taking on board your positive statements. So for the first part of the practice, it's about breathing slowly and deeply. And one thing that helps to calm you down is to breathe in for fewer counts than breathing out because this will assist with calming you down and relax the new body. And if you do it in the sit direction, it actually hypes you up. So if you breathe in for longer than you breathe out, like if you're about to go on stage and you need to be hyper jumpy about it like Tony Robbins, then that would help.
But in this case, you're breathing in for shorter than you're breathing out. And one way that helps to do that is if you breathe out through your mouth as if you're breathing through a straw, because it really helps with slowing down your out breath. It's quick and easy way to take control of your breathing and to help really calm you down and relax your own body. So once you are feeling nice and relaxed, then move on to stating things you are feeling grateful for. Now, if you struggle to do this spontaneously, you can to say each of the statements -- slowly, while focusing on connecting to the positive emotions that come with that statement. And Likewise, for your future based I am affirmations, you can optionally write out a list before you go to bed. I've certainly done both of those myself because I have had the experience of lying there thinking, I can't think of anything. So, yes, you can definitely write out lists of affirmations and gratitude statements before you go to bed.
if your mind has a tendency to go blank like mind us. So you can certainly include I am statements about who you want to be, what you want to be experiencing, and what you want to be doing. The important thing is that you don't buy them too far in the future because your subconscious is not going to take your I'm statement seriously if you are taking yourself from not starting your business directly to having a $1,000,000,000 business. Because, again, it will think this is unsafe and take you in the opposite direction. So make the I'm statements outside your comfort zone, but still within sight. So if you're not taking action on your business now, you can say, I am a confident business person. it's still within the realms of what your subconscious will be able to take on board. I am attracting clients If you don't have any clients now, I am attracting clients now will be a statement that your subconscious is more able to take on board a especially if you're saying it confidently.
If you're saying I'm attracting clients and you're not sounding like you're on board with it, it's not going to have a good effect. So it's really important to say those statements confidently. So pausing between each statement and making sure that you're reconnecting with the feelings of being confident and positive about what you're saying. before you start saying the next statement, it really helps because your subconscious doesn't need to or it can't, doesn't know how to, judge whether what you're saying is true or not. So it's going on how you're feeling. So if you're connecting with positive emotions and you're connecting with confidence and certainty, then it's more likely to be implementing those statements. So the three steps were deep breathing to prepare your body for sleep. Going through things you're grateful for in your life while connecting positive emotions.
And then future based, I am affirmation, Sid with confidence and positivity. The concept of priming your subconscious with positive statements in the last few minutes before you fall asleep matters because if we don't do it, then we are priming our subconscious to provide more of the same that we're not enjoying. Ultimately, this is about empowering ourselves to be able to take the actions we need to in order to get our business unstart. and achieve the fulfillment of helping others to live better lives while having a financially successful business.
